NFL Players Compete in Checkdown x Madden NFL 20 Tournament!

kind of fun but I am not here alone ladies and gentlemen we got two great casters here with us as well we're gonna bring in our G and Josh loon and if you don't know our G let me straight give you an education right quick all right we're talking about one of the longtime voice is one of the most recognizable voices in the Madden community he is known as the John Madden of John Madden football a former pro gamer if current EA developer on the madden team as well and of course we have Josh Lewin longtime voice in the NFL the former voice of the then San Diego Chargers and you could currently find his work on UCLA as well calling all of their games there with you so gentlemen we welcome you in obviously it is a very strange time a global pandemic has certainly stricken fear into the hearts of millions but we're trying to give some people some relief a little bit of you know a little bit of a break from all of that today but RG we'll start with you boy again I'd love to know how this you know the the kovat 19 has impacted your daily routine well first its honor to be here James and it's obviously impacted me just like it's impacted everybody you're in a work from home situation and really just driving that stay home and play initiative I mean I have people that I know that work at grocery stores in the medical field and they have those essential jobs and they're out there and the frightened front lines every day and you talk to them so your heart continues to go out for those people and you know everybody's struggling right now but it's events like this that'll hopefully let us you know come together and you know help drive that stay home and play initiative we'll all those essential workers help get us to where we need to be Josh how about for yourself I know you're down that San Diego area how has life been impacted for you well it's a blessing to be where the Sun is always shining for sure and to at least see a beach even though you really can't walk on it right now and and that's the thing I mean we're all doing our part simply by doing things like this or we're heroes if we stay home and it's kind of the least I think we can all do hopefully everybody is mindful of that and I can't thank the athletes enough to check down ei for putting this together because we're not only gonna raise some money which is important here today raise some awareness but we're gonna have some fun I think we could all use a little bit of fun even if it's in a short dose for a little while no doubt about it I know for myself plus extra family time get to spend some time with the kids downside homeschooling that is been so girl in my house but that's okay we're getting it through getting through it and let's take a look at the bracket here for you and again we kind of hinted at some of the players here we got some Super Bowl champions how about it there's your top right we got tire and Matthew Tyree kill AFC West rivals inter when James and Keenan out by the way those two guys right there man those two guys might be two of my favorites going into this tournament as well and then on the other side Denzel Ward mr. Ohio taking on Jarvis Landry that's gonna be our first matchup and then the Battle of a old line young line DeSean Jackson taking on Depot Samuel and that's round one that's going down today round two that's going down tomorrow quarterfinals semifinals and of course the finals gonna be going down grand finals as you can see on your screen 8:00 p.m. Eastern I did want to say by the way this is a pretty unique event here right for both the NFL and for EA we're live live okay this is not pre-recorded in any kind of way we're talking about eight athletes broadcasting live from their homes you see Archie he's in the comforts of his own home there in Florida Josh Lewin the comforts of his home there in the San Diego area I'm in studio this is not my house ladies and gentlemen okay I just want you to know it's not this it's not this nice but my no doubt but I but of course why are we here we're here to help raise money for the co vid 19 Relief Fund you could be part of the team man go to the go to the website United Way dot org and find out more details there all right again very strange times no doubt about it you saw the you saw the bracket there and why we're here the first matchup of course is going to be a couple of Browns in Jarvis Landry and Denzel Ward RG we'll start with you can you talk about a Denzel Ward's gonna be rocking with the Texans Jarvis Lantry with the Browns talk about what you're kind of seeing there on paper from a Madden standpoint well it seems like Landry got away with the seniority where he gets to rep the team that they're both on with the Browns but I'll tell you what Ward might have lucked out going within Texans I think every player in this tournaments using a unique team so you'll see a variety of teams and the Texans are a nice team to grab you got that you know to Shawn watch them with the escape artist raccoons JJ watch gonna be healthy in game so I think the team advantage goes to Denzel but I do want to say real quick James yeah it's always just so fascinating for us gamers and our the you know fans of Madden to see how good these pros are on the sticks it's something we're always intrigued about some of them are the real deal some of them think they're good and they get humbled and I've seen that happen tons of times and it's always a great experience and um you know we know we can't mess with those guys out there on the field but we may have the chip we get to see it hey could we take that guy on the virtual card iron so I'm always fascinated by that yeah it's funny guys because on the actual playing field the Texans have won five straight against the Browns that doesn't mean anything here it's all about who's who's sweet with the stick and we'll find out pretty soon who that is and later in the day that Keenan Allen Derwin James matchup Chargers vs. Chargers those are two gamers I mean they really get at it and ball on the sticks and they know each other so well from the practice field as well to it so that gonna be a really good one all right let's welcome in the competitors we talked about a couple of Cleveland Browns we're talking about Jarvis Landry and Denzel Ward gentlemen we welcome you in we appreciate you taking the time hey Denzel we'll start with you you're mr. Ohio you went to school high school in Ohio you went to college in Ohio now you're playing pro ball in Ohio I gotta ask you man going back to your Ohio State days was this somebody who was nasty on the sticks and I'll say or were you the guy no I was the guy on the stick since he's too good a doing on the sticks and Matt into the house Tate suit and Jarvis how about yourself going back to LSU I don't know for whatever reason O'Dell doesn't strike me as a gamer but am I wrong who was nasty on the sticks there at LSU man we had a lot of we had a lot of good competition got a lot of good competition is hard to say that one guy was the best you know I mean it was like I win they win they win I win you know I mean all right so Jarvis will stay with you I know you're going with the Cleveland Browns kind of a it makes a lot of sense there's a lot of great players especially on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball let's be real for the Cleveland Browns in terms of Madden but what what was your decision making process and choosing the Browns for this tournament I just you know I'm more comfortable with then I also knew that you know they got a big-time receiver over there you know I need my big-time DB on this side to make plays and you know I trust you one to making plays for me so we'll see are you gonna kind of player that just throws to yourself all all day long nah 2020 Cleveland Brown I love that and then I bought for yourself Denzel your play with the Houston Jacksons what do you love about that squad yeah I got a mobile quarterback that's able to get the ball down the field is well and DeSean watch big thirsty I had to check to make sure it wasn't too updated and bhop so you know got a big turbo C and then got JJ Watt on a deal on somebody get out to the quarterback I think we'd be good it's two teams that are built pretty similarly tell me how well in Denzel we'll start with you how do you think this games gonna play out yeah I'm not sure there's me and Jarvis first time playing each other so we ain't haven't got a stop a play-by-play and then how about for you Jarvis how do you see it playing out what kind of game style I mean you said you want to run a balanced attack how about defensively what do you want to get done man I just want to stop his playmaker you know keep the shot in the pocket there there you go Jarvis Landry I saw that's not like quarterback contain that middle go Bo hey you have to see come see for it okay see what you say Denzel war Jarvis Landry just moments away gentlemen we'll catch up with you guys at halftime and guys you know when we talk about RG and Josh Lewin it's it's so interesting what we're gonna be getting between these two competitors here Denzel Ward on the Left Jarvis Landry on your right you know again the Jarvis lands are gonna be rockin with the Cleveland Browns a hometown team and and then tens awards got the Houston Texans gonna begin deshaun Watson we got a little DeAndre Hopkins a little new cop guns we'll see if he gets the ball rolling with Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson as well alright on the call Josh Lewin RG gentlemen take it away I came thank you very much I'm intrigued because Cleveland and Houston actually play against each other this year RG and here's Denzel already kind of buttering up in Houston Texans Bulls great I mean you know maybe like angling a little bit to show on Watson's gonna take it easy on them somehow and now the Denzel is kind of crawling them all up in there at least for it today friendly fire oh and one thing I loved about here in this josh is been saying it's their first time playing there's no scout and rapport between these players so you know that significant bragging rights on the line whenever you go up against one of your homies and Maddon you always remember who won that last week especially that first game that's a big one well and matching up against each other in practice it's a little different than than this obviously so as you can see the Texans will be the home team here and let's Matt or G you and I haven't done this in a while it's great to hear you again and we're gonna try to listen in a little bit since we do have the guys up and here if there's any trash talk so we'll drop out play-by-play wise if they do their own play-by-play your line to get going here for Jarvis Landry do we know the playbook by the way they're rockin RG no no we don't know off we didn't record to sing like the MCS we don't just get that information it's hard to get in touch with these NFL guys than it is some of those uh you know those Pro matte and gamers but uh as things unfold hopefully we'll be able to figure it out they use I will tell you Josh if they're using the default playbook spike and using the Texans and Landry's using the Browns playbooks it's not a good sign you never want to show up to a competitive Madden game using those default play books you need to have your PlayBook that you've mastered and you're comfortable which so I'll try to figure out what books these guys are in and just a reminder guys the NFL Foundation an EA making a $5,000 would think they'll form to rep the Steelers here if you're actually on the Cleveland Browns in real life right yeah yeah probably not a good idea skates ability in the first count oh that's just a good read option are you keeping and roll out and who knows if Jarvis Landry knows how to pick the adjustment to make that reaches you the quarterback he's in Wildcat Josh yeah in the handoff is coming with the straight cheese the read option followed by the Wildcat one of those read option page let's face it simply press the B button and then the bowler gets wrapped up get a sack field double we like to see damarious Randall the safety over to make that hit your water hey you got to be careful you don't do anything just take your point certain 14s gonna be tough to get but DeAndre Hopkins does have the red zone threat ability so if you can if he can get his hands on that ball in that end zone right there he's gonna have a good chance to hold on to it got Miller here and a pistol set look at March down that field out a little read optional three cooks up the hottie so all that talk about DeAndre Hopkins and I get it but it was a steady dose of will fuller to start things out and it is Denzel Ward on top of Jarvis Landry early he's got 95 speed 93 acceleration 82 overall I mean he's a solid number to wide receiver anytime you number two I'd receive as 95 plus speed I mean that is a real benefit we've got to Sean Jackson later in this tournament member a few years back it was fuller and Jackson is the only rookies in the Super Bowl era to have started their careers with back-to-back hundred yard receiving games they filled it and it's simply incomplete Landry he's trying to play some I'm thinking dunk right there he goes to hunt if you're Landry that key he had choices you want to get Chubb in the game Chubb is a superstar X Factor players he's gonna have that arm bar ability this is a rookie mistake right now by juice by keeping hunt in this game [Applause] shove the Pro Bowler this past year rushed for nearly 1,500 yards this past year and a third and nine coming our initial game Denzel Ward and Jarvis Landry the Browns teammates are head to head it underneath got what it is a little bit more than the boiler space way right there by Jukes under a minute ago in its fourth quarter first will Fuller's been in the end zone for that seven nothing lead to the Houston Texans is played by Denzel ward Josh on his D lineman and I'll tell you if you're a professional DB I do not expect you to be getting stuck playing on your defensive line I need you out there lurking what a safety are a linebacker making plays like that route blow it again I know surprise that your mystery we need the ball but be looking around hearing that he'd spread it out not just go for him well hundred yards 83 reception didn't have season and forget to quarter number two RG what do you think of the stick work so far so far you know I'm impressed and sell his scum little tactics with the the read option and then a little Wildcat a little play-action in the red zone or Jarvis didn't start off strong but so far I'm impressed with this drive he is slowly and methodically on the phone and that's all that matters it doesn't matter how you do it as long as you get it done Jarvis just had that hip surgery six weeks ago so anytime I see any of these Browns get tackled hard I kind of wince [Applause] three baby block there's JJ Watt again thank you three all right that's a one-man game dream story and engage a watt on this errand Denzel Baden in movies Landry is looking like he's gonna get aggressive he's not feeling it I'll be a 55-yard attempt here if you want to try it six minute quarters with an accelerated clock rips right here Landry was part of these guys are into the ball get the play make at the ball play I like so much has happened right there John about Denzel Ward having the kid walk in its arsenal yes read option he's got Wildcat he's got kick box that is okay for what he thinks and I'll tell you Landry did the right thing that play called the obj was perfect Joe Dal Beckham has a grab-and-go ability which gives him the smoothest most responsive locomotion you can get after the catch forget him the screen pass is as brilliant on Landry oh he might fumble they're fascinated watching Jarvis Landry play defense and Denzel Ward playing offense you know so you love about about Madden you got to do everything you don't have one job out here Josh you are the head coach you are the coordinator you are the player it is all on you when you walk up on the Virtual gridiron or deshaun Watson handed it off and that went nowhere and orangey I don't know about you it's been pretty friendly just in terms of the chat back decision there yeah what he store so quickly to his first position I knew I couldn't give him the ball back but I hope to take that chance on 49 and I still almost didn't get it even though I was wide open I still most didn't get it so yeah that kind of got me going a little bit and then Denzel for yourself offensively that first drive I mean you were automatic man you look great on the sticks and then that second drive stalled out a little bit how would you assess your first half performance the first big thing he plays is me he locked in on the second possession the defense wise but we go see what the second half bring enough hey you know I want to ask both of you guys how much does Madden and Denzel we'll start with you I mean you're calling the offensive plays obviously you've got a pretty good understanding of how Madden works how much does mad and actually help what you guys are doing on the field in real life for me as a cornerback you don't really hold me too much I mean I know the I know the coverages and everything but technique-wise that's that's a whole different thing from playing the game and being out there on the field but I will say this though you were kind of sort of calling out what Jarvis was going to do that that part of it must help you in terms of kind of predicting what kind of plays might be coming in No yeah definitely play recognition and coming soon the formations that he come on in like I said you see it once you go see it again guys usually come back to the plays that work there you go and then how about for yourself Jarvis you know obviously had a little bit of a rough go there on that first drive then got it going but defensively I thought you look great on that second stop of Denzel Ward again I'll ask you the same question how much does Matt and I guess contribute to kind of your on the field football like you yeah I mean you know it's very similar to it with this essay you know obviously being on the field in person there's one thing in the video game is something totally different but you could take the things that you know in the field and play with that IQ in a video game and then that makes you better on the video game you know me there you go alright second half what do you got to do to close this one out Jarvis play great defense I got to play better defense than I did in the first half and they take take take a children to ball and then Denzel how about for yourself offensively what adjustments do you need to make yeah just got to give back to the house what we did that first possession and getting that ball in the end zone and driving the ball downfield alright there you go to Brown's going at it right now they go work a really heated battle here going between Jarvis Landry and Denzel about this when when football gets back together I got I got bragging rights for a minute so the next time we play you know hear about we bought the place I want to get to the chats real quick we got Cleveland for life asking he wants to stir it up man he says who would win in a footrace between you two Denzel what you got a user cobalt buddy says Jarvis you're gonna love your new head coach Kevin is a brilliant offensive mind I'll piggyback off with that Stefanski I thought did a tremendous job with the Vikings last year 37 years old he's obviously a very young dude I don't know if you've had a chance to talk with him in any capacity at all Jarvis but what do you think he brings to the table how different is that going to be 20/20 versus 2019 yeah I'm excited I'm excited to see the things that you know myself and other guys can do you know but most importantly just you know somebody that's gonna lead us in the right direction as a team that's that's the thing that I'm looking for the most hey we'll stay with this whole new coaching theme and we'll flip the defensive side of the ball Joe woods for you Denzel Ward is gonna be your new DC this guy is supposed to be a cornerback guru I imagine you had to been pretty excited to hear he was gonna be coming on board yeah I was very excited the chance I got once I heard that he was in the facility I had went there just to talk to all the coaches and just pick their brain and talk to him let him get to know me for that short time period but it was definitely fun talking to him looking forward to working with you know Joe woods has that Super Bowl experience Denzel and I thought he did a bang-up job coaching up Okello Witherspoon in a manual Mosley last year how do you see yourself fitting into that scheme yeah definitely got Justin Tucker so that's in his satchel for real and he brought that out and Madden play here basically won him the game and I you know I was fascinated to guys I don't know about you at the end of the game what it came down to was can Jarvis Landry get Jarvis Landry the ball in that thicket of players white at the goal line he got that close I mean he was within about a yard or two of making it happen so we expected a little higher score in game that's okay 10 to 9 for our first salvo was exciting I loved it I just it doesn't to me it doesn't matter what the score is as long as we get a good close game and and to me I think we had a great great first as you mentioned salvo into this check down man turn him a 10-9 your final score blocked extra point RG I'll go back to you you know what did you think about Denzel wort stick work uh you know I'm glad you asked that I thought he was decent I mean he showed some promise me you know yeah he had the special teams on lock he had his because I don't think he's going to be able to get past a guy like let's Darwin James who is really honored so if I'm Denzel he's a decent madam player but there's definitely some things that he could work on in these next you know between now and tomorrow to really help this game mainly finding place to roll out with deshaun Watson using more that mobility outside of just the read option and then finding more ways to get Hopkins the ball I mean you got the best receiver in the game you really want to figure out how to be able to feature him and let's take a look at the updated bracket now dents award again eliminates Jarvis Lanter he moves on he will be taking a look at I think he's gonna be taking on the winner of DeSean Jackson vs. debo Samuel C but you know I'll tell you this I saw online that Tyreke Hill has pretty good odds of winning this thing so I do wonder if Ty Murray kill vs Tyrann Mathieu if that will give us a little bit of insight into who might be the front-runner in this race I thought coming in Josh Lewin that for sure it was going to be Derwin James especially after we just watched him absolutely dismantle Michael Vick last week yeah derp wouldn't put up a tea burger that's not easy to do in mad I mean he just went full throttle had that game won probably could have been tapped out with about 35 points he hit 80 so yeah DJ is gonna be a guy that it still is and you know and you hit on something to their games because it's player versus player from the same team we just saw that one with the Browns guys going at it we're about to see it with the Chiefs guys going at it that one's gonna be Keenan Allen against Erwin James they know each other so well from practice and they're obviously good friends off the field so I love that dynamic and by the way the only matchup we have it doesn't feature player on player like that from the same team you've got two very speedy wide receivers that's right I'm fascinated to see if he fence at all it's Tebow hood Samuel taking on DeSean Jackson yeah it's old lied young line no doubt about a long time veteran - Sean Jackson the speedster in RG I think you mentioned he was what what one of two players - to have multiple 99 speeds yeah the crazy thing is there's only been eight players in Madden's history that have had 99 speed two of those guys are in this tournament in Tyree killin DeSean Jackson you know and we all know 99 speed that is King I thought that was an interesting stat look if you're new to them the whole Madden scene I mean again being able to use her these players that's what really makes the difference that's why when you see tournaments you know featuring it would I go back to the man of classic this year when we watch serious mo when the thing Boston Scott a practice squad player was a very popular player being used among Madden competitive players because of that speed and so that to me is it you know you talk about speed being King I think you see it take form in different types of players like a Boston Scott in Madden RG you know it was cool about Boston Scott - James is those Madden pros joking Co were using him at the very start of the year this is before anybody even know who Boston Scott was they saw those ratings they saw that he was kind of small and elusive and could use them to get through those holes and they used him early on and had a lot of success and then as the NFL season starts to develop you start seeing this guy Boston Scott making some plays for the Eagles and that's just one of many examples I've seen throughout my years where Madden players are ahead of the NFL meta they know the guys are going to be stars before they even become stars in the NFL I thought Boston Scott was a good example of that this year actually that's a great point man you know I feel like Madden and fantasy and and those types of things have definitely brought a new depth of knowledge to the common fan and and as you mentioned sometimes we'll know them in fantasy sometime we'll know them in man before they actually make an impact on the real game as crazy as that is as crazy as that is but you're right that is absolutely true all right is the old money so maybe you can keep it going and Tyreke L it doesn't surprise me James that he is a favorite I was at the Kansas City Chiefs Club champion event back in 2016 when I ran in 17 and Chiron Kim showed up to that event he stayed the entire time and he was literally in the in the back like player warm-up area like sitting with the players getting tips though he took it mad became ultimate team Josh so he has a variety it makes legends about a 92 overall though at the two-minute warning and it looks very likely here that if they really want a gun the engine these Tyreke he'll lead Chicago Bears can get up and past 60 but again worth noting that that half of what he's accomplished talking about Tyree kill as the Bears it's been with his defense not as offense in fact for that was insane five fortunate he doesn't have to go up against the honey badger in a real game situation I'd say honey badgers gonna be looking for him and it's time they're out on the field hopefully I don't hit like that in practice I'm very curious to see what what practices you're gonna be like after Tyreke just absolutely put a smash button on Tyreke Tyrann Mathieu there but but but Joshua wanted to get your thoughts on kind of what you saw there and I was incredibly impressed but what what were your thoughts well I want to know cuz Artie would be able to tell us is there a way setting up blitzes he's not just running anything he has his money plays and I talked to him leading up to us he's a real man and player and he's also in some franchises with professional Madden players I mean this is a guy that told me he's played guys like dreamy and skin bow and then he's mentioned in guys like fancy who are top level madam players but they're kind of like more underground so if you cross and passed with fancy like you're really in the mix of this stuff he's dead serious you know you're right RG you know you when I was watching the game play I mean this is man and 20 obviously a running meta and the way he was running the Seattle Seahawks you know using Russell Wilson in that mobile mode and in mixing in some rpoS and and being a very run heavy you know attack if Derwin James can get past Keenan Allen and I don't want to ride off Keenan my guy from Cal because Keenan Allen can play as well I know he was mad about the game earlier in the offseason but but he the yeah Madden and Keenan have reconciled differences now and he's back on the sticks and he's a very very good player but when I watched Erwin James play you're right he's playing as you say he's playing Madden Madden he's doing the running Metta he's got the defensive stick he's got the defensive schemes he's boxing guys up I mean to me that that is a match regardless of if it happens here or somewhere else I got a I got a see Tyreke Hill versus dirt win James I got a see I'm with you I'm with you James and you know what it's always what one of my biggest beef is every time we've seen a tournament where it's like EA Sports Bowl which was madam ball back in the day where they take all the NFL players and they bring them in and they have them run of Madden tournament a lot of times they bring in the big names which is cool because that's who the people want to see sure but then you talk to me done FL players and they're like yo such-and-such you know he's nasty on the sticks uh chicka-chicka low they'll tell me from the Steelers are remember IRA Barry told me is like do Ron Parker's nasty I'm not charging it one time I just want to see a tournament with the best madam player from each NFL team I think that would be sue I don't but it's not about who's the biggest in practice squad or whatever right RG who is it yeah who's the best guy in that locker room that could bust your butt on the sticks and get you he's gonna represent your team and then get them in a tournament and let's see who the real best madam player in the NFL is that's something I've always wanted to technical problems with Devo right now so DeSean will be up and Adam but before we get to DeSean RG we saw the little promo there for the Madden bowl and the LCQ I want to pick your brain a little bit here because man we got some great belt winners and it's so great to see because we've got new blood in the Madden Bowl as well yeah it's the beautiful thing about competitive Madden is there's so many stories you have your guys that are you know no names guys that are literally chasing history competitive that in history trying to mint themselves with some of the greatest players of all times and then you got guys that just got on the scene you know this year that are really making some noise and have the potential to get some real cash flow and I'll tell you what ever since I was a kid and I was young there was always that question in your neighborhood of like who is the best madam player who's the best madam player in your clique who's the best madam player in your neighborhood and it's now that it's gotten to a point where we have tournaments organized where we can actually identify who the best madam players in the world really are it's just amazing and if you're a fan of the game it's something you want to tune into because like I said everybody knows somebody that thinks that the man at Madden and the fact that we have a process to make sure we find out who really is the man is just it's not special man that's so great I can't wait to see some of the younger players certainly coming up no doubt about it you know Noah obviously made a name for himself in the most recent tournament but voltar acts kind of the evil genius of that group and then you've got you've got old heads like you know serious moe really making noise in this year's Madden as well all right not like this before as you see God just got word that we never really experienced anything like this before man I think onus you know what everyone is sitting back trying to figure out so uh you know we're just patiently wait man until we get away from you know the higher-ups and just do what we can do as day in and day out just by training you know I've been doing a lot of in-home workouts running around my uh you know complex and just doing push-ups and kind of don't tell us this is the most I've been able to do man that is that's tough man that is absolutely tough hey listen loosen all that practice time who do you think that impacts more offense defense or does it not matter honestly I think it might affect the offense is a little more man you know at the end of day you know defenses don't really have that many responsibilities as we do as offensive player so I think you might expect this offensive are in a defense I think we're gonna get you on the sticks here yeah are you the Eagles yeah man I'm me he was man I know 2019 did not go for you as planned but it was clear as day to anyone who watched that you were the missing piece to that Eagles offense you know what know the NFL and the NFL PA did agree to more you know labor peace which is great collective bargain agreement is good I but it was kind of a controversial deal you know kind of passed a with a very slim margin I want to see where you kind of fell on that side of the fence what did you think about the deal you know being you know NFL for so long and kind of going through to CBA's um you know I and I actually went to a lockout you know I understood you know a lot of players chose for then you know my ins and outs was obviously adding another game you know and you know Adam Ward playoff played I mean it was just a lot of ins and outs but you know as football players you know it's a tough sport you know it's a lot of injuries and you know it's a lot of wearing turn our body so you timings off these are just run around and just taught me you know when he's expecting to throw the ball but when he expects you to break in a break when he expects you to get to a certain tip so you know to me I think a lot of quarterbacks you know kind of easier for me because I you know I'm fast and I can get to a you know a sequence B and that understands that when I'm making them out to make this and I'm you know think your dad knows you know a lot of seen a lot of offseason workouts to kind of understand where you know oh ma the back of my head is what a quarterback sees and all he can go is off of a trust so if you throw him off and you do extra you know routine he's not used to he's gonna you know react to that so you just got a big system with that to just understand what you're dealing with when you're dealing with in each and every individual all right some where you're still ninety seven speed so don't work out in any way guys if you don't if you don't know this guy's got twenty four career touchdowns in sixty plus yards that's an NFL record still picking it up and putting it down to some degree for sure appreciate a man all right let's get back into the game play if the success for you know such a long time is there any advice you would give to younger players a younger athletes on things they can do to kind of you know maintain that that level of productivity for for the long tenure like you have in your career I take pride in just consistency man going out there and you know never taking days off man just putting the work in you know every day I step on the field I'll just try to work on something and get get myself better if that's working on catching the ball 100 times or you know Rena routes getting out my brakes working in a top end of my you know cuts like you know I just try to attack something each and every time I step on the field man because at the end of day you know it's a repetitive game we play and I think you know how I've been over to stay stay in this game so long I've been able to be consistent and you know consistency is the key mris awesome thank you no problem oh my god she picked me I said oh no that was the job to okay so he's already seen the ravens very recently as a team the Keenan Allen is gonna be working with so it's kind of a replay of sorts for Derwin James and very weird to see Michael Vick using Lamar Jackson that I mean just me personally cuz I mean those guys are always compared to each other and sound like Vick had a terrible game offensively but Joe and James dropped an eighty bomb on him you know so hard to pick against her when James in this matchup coming up DeSean Jackson against the cpu put up 25 should have been 27 moments ago right he missed it a couple of extra points but he hung right in there and and either way whoever he gets in that one tomorrow it's gonna be fun then as we're getting a few moments away now between the all charger matchup between Durham and James and Keenan Allen RG again we talked about these two guys being pretty experienced gamers and to me the fact that neither one went with the Chargers and they picked two teams that are very popular in regs the Seattle Seahawks and especially the Baltimore Ravens I think that kind of gives you a little peek under the hood in terms of you know where they're at mentally and Madden 20 yeah both of these guys are using mobile quarterbacks probably two of the best mobile quarterbacks that there are in Madden you know besides patty mahomes talking Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson and something that I thought was interesting about this matchup because I got to speak to Darwin for a little bit cuz he's such a big Madden fan I mean this is a guy that keeps up with the MCS and all of that stuff I mean he really is a Madden fan and I asked him about this matchup and he said you know what G said he's like Keenan's dangerous he's like me and keen and play a lot he's like I feel like I win the majority of those games but he knows my game plans he knows exactly what I want to do which makes it more difficult than anyone that plays Madden like that if you got your buddy that you walk in with and play you know it's difficult because he's sitting on everything that you want to do the stuff that may work against your normal opponents doesn't work against him and you know they've played a lot he says so that this game is going to be very very interesting the two guys that are super familiar with each other and I can't wait to see how this one goes and we've all seen dirt when James play this year we know he's the real deal Josh I'm anxious to see what Keenan Allen is gonna bring to the table with his game plan I'm fascinated that Kanan took the ravens asked the team against which he got hurt lacerated his spleen he's got bad memories of the Baltimore Ravens but he's repping the Ravens going forward and James speaking of going forward I know you got brackets to show us just kind of reset everything I'm losing track of it too so you'll do that the happy honors feel free yeah no tell let's take a look at the bracket thus far in the first matchup of the afternoon Jarvis Landry eliminated in the single elimination tournament Denzel Ward second-year cornerback from Ohio State moving on and here he's gonna be taking on the cheetah Tyree kill after he'd absolutely dismantled Tyrann Mathieu and it should be noted Tyree kill was playing as the Bears and that to me says something because the Bears in regs not very good but certainly the defensive calling card was absolutely present there and then you just saw DeSean Jackson kind of by default move on past debo Samuel we couldn't really get debo connected there we had some technical issues just couldn't get him on the stream which is unfortunate but DeSean Jackson being a trooper kind of stuck with us gave us a little bit of time and he's going to be moving on facing the winner of our upcoming match all charger matchup in turn when James taking on Keenan Allen aren't you one of the stories in the off season leading up to man 20 was the fact that Keenan Allen was very upset it so many players do get upset at their madden rating overall and that's okay that's part of the whole process of Madden but the fact that the rating suggestion went out there spoke with them and was able to kind of you know kind of bring them back into the fold was great to see he should be happy to know he is a superstar x-factor player on the most current roster of Madden so that's taken care of he's got the in out a lead ability being the favorite coming into this me as someone that's watched a lot of Madden it's been a big part of my life for more than half of my life Derwin James is my guy going into this to keep an eye out this one James thank you very much and yet personally I haven't gotten to call a Chargers game in forever and I'm still not really calling a Chargers game because as you can see it's Baltimore against Seattle and it's Keenan Allen as Baltimore this game taking place in Seattle in theory and again and wearing those lime greens the electric green here for Seattle ty Lockett was huge for Derwin James on Sunday he was catching passes he was returning kicks he did whatever he wanted to and RG I know you watched that game too when Michael Vick was wiped out Vick was offered the concession button first quarter then do you want to tap out yeah yeah you never want to see be the one receiving that message where if the game starts to get out of hand it'll literally ask you it says hey this looks like it's getting out of hand scheme victory but I think this is gonna be a lot different this time Josh Keenan Allen is a gamer he plays a lot of Madden these guys have a history of playing each other so I'm very very interested to see what he's gonna bring to the table here and he's stepping up I mentioned this earlier and I was there to see it I'll never forget it he was up against double coverage against these Ravens in 15 an unbelievable catch as the Chargers came back to win a game 33 31 in Baltimore but in the process of making that catch we didn't know what at the time Keenan Allen lacerated his spleen and he was done for the year in a year where he was on pace to put up insane numbers he was eight games NRG he had seven hundred and twenty five yards already 67 catches so here he is as a raven and trying to play a little defense right now and I like it you see him in the bottom right of your screen I like as a tire coming into this game you got the sleeveless adidas on your headband up you know what I'm saying he's got the earbuds in so he looks locked and ready to go this is the posture of somebody that seems like they're ready to do work on the sticks Josh beard game is very strong and point that out too and you know a couple years ago there was a game I reference NFL Films again they had keen and wired for sound there was that the wild-card game between the Chargers and the Ravens I guess that was an 18 and they caught Keane and saying over and over when Melvin Ingram was making sticks the defense came to play the defense came to play and now he's got to be all about that here because about Derwin James does court 80 points the other day yeah he's for sure and you know the Ravens defense isn't a bad defense to be controlling if you came in you got Earl Thomas out there who's obviously one of the better play makers Marlin Humphrey is one of the better corners so you definitely got some play makers out there on that Ravens defense especially in that secondary Marcus Peters - and Keenan Allen and Marcus Peters for real I've had some battles twice a year when the Chargers would play the Chiefs and a lot of a horizontal maneuvering here so far for Derwin James again playing as the Seahawks at home well Darwin's running these these bubble you see that PA bubble RPO that's a run pass option right there Josh where they are POS are new to Madden 20 where he could choose to hand that ball off to the running back by holding the X button after he snaps it or he could you know go ahead and throw that bubble and so far he's had a lot of success on that bubble it's a good read right there way home when you throw that I wanted what I wanted to say is it's a pretty easy read to you kind of just watch the guy that's closest to that slot receiver that's gonna run the bubble if there's no one to lined over them you could pretty much just throw that bad boy because the outside receiver is gonna block the DB and then if there even is someone aligned on him you just watch his initial move if he breaks in you throw the bubble if he guards the bubble you hand it off dangerous for us Wilson trying to escape he just flings it out of bounds will bring up a third and seven and we should bring up RG one of the interesting side lights of this game you got Lamar Jackson against Russell Wilson I mean that's two guys that you'd love to have on your madden team no matter what I mean this is like you know the modern-day Mike Vick first Donovan McNabb McNabb matchup that you would see back when I was on the sticks and guys both of them carson we've had ball security issues he was able to hang on its fourth an inch here didn't quite give him the first down did you hold the door moment Joshi I triangle up the seam I'll lock it again making a play for Derwin James that's not levels play that is a good play you got a corner round from the tight end the running back breaks to the flats a short shallow dig what a deep dig this is this is just prolific right now by Darwin got DK Metcalfe you got Lockett I mean you got weapons out there that med challenge a man 900 receiving yards this here and look at Darwin he's got the shades on I you know I was paying homage to Keenan with with the air buds and the sleeveless and the headband but look at look at them shades at Darwin's rockin also like some serious game realistically this is the best we've seen I agree as Rashard Penny gets tackled after a gain of a couple second and goal here nice time-consuming drive here from DJ this is textbook right here and you've seen it he's mixed up his plays he's done some RPO a little bit of levels concept he's run the ball I mean he's just doing it all he threw the ball away when there was nothing there I mean he is as advertised when it comes to the work he does on the sticks what were we saying the defense came to play said Keenan Allen over and over when it was chargers against Ravens and now so far that's exactly right this is third and goal and we go hold the door moment just this is gonna be what determines of Tarawa needs to take three or get six this isn't for down territory this early in the game Josh four and a half minute drive here to partner opening things up the winner gets to shawn jackson tomorrow and Russell Wilson Chuck's it all my goodness what a catch they do here going will dis Lee Josh that was textbook Russell Wilson he just ad-libbed that play he rolls out it looks like this nothing dead this Lee breaks to the back corner off of that corner route to the back pylon and just gets it done that's exactly how Russell Wilson does when the play breaks down and it's time to ad-lib nobody is better and Darwin just got it done just like he wouldn't Russell would in real life right there oh what a way to make a play I thought he was gonna have to throw that away and take three that's why you see don't love having Russell Wilson and you saw you gotta love having some russell wilson on you on your squad and you saw darwin went straight to his coaching adjustments said it's DB matchups I believe I speed I mean this guy knows what he is gonna know what he's doing and look for him to send heavy pressure out of this three for Darwin when we watched him play first big he is not scared to send seven defenders out of these three four odd and three four bear defenses by the way before I forget RG quick educational moment for you here Russell Wilson's late father almost made the Chargers team himself at a training camp as a receiver back in I think it was 1980 but the the Chargers back then so often lined up with Kellen Winslow wide they decided only four wide receivers on the roster would be necessary so Russell's dad got squeezed out he could have been a charger but now of claims and Keenan Allen has chargers they're matching up for the rights to play to Sean Jackson tomorrow Josh Aaron animal father's cousin charger how do you know this stuff man the one thing I love about Russell Wilson we talked about his confidence kind of mirroring that of Keenan's and Irwin's I remember the story about when John Schneider the the Seattle GM called Russ Wilson to draft of he said we're taking with our third round pick and supposedly Russ said congratulations you just made the best decision of your whole life anyone wrong doesn't lion got him that Super Ball I will say Josh I'm liking what Keenan's doing right now he's coming out in a gun ace formation that that's gonna have a 21 personnel he's gonna have two tight ends out there what's gonna what the block those tight ends and Max protect and pick up some of that heavy pressure that Derwin James likes to send so I'm really liking what Keenan's doing right now coming out in this too tight unsaid you see der and in my opinion Josh the winner of this game is gonna be the favorite to win the tournament and I know that's saying a lot given the performance that Tyreke he'll put on earlier today but I'm just calling he's doing exactly what he needs to do to win this game so far in my opinion he'll run it again and Keenan Allen stiffening up defensively again flying as the Ravens as Keenan Allen this is huge huge first out this is a big one Josh this is probably the biggest play of the game so far because Don will be able to continue to mill clock if he picks this up if not he'll have to kick a field goal and give came in the ball back throwing on the run and a coverage that's a great catch and again he finds a tight end I was a great play right there from Darwin and I'm even impressed with Keenan Allen he clicked onto that defender so fast and moved them into position to try to make the knock out but Darwin clicked on with this Lee hit that possession catch and now got the first down he's knocking on the door who had will displease MVP of this game still been the case so far penny kind of barged forward he's in it's a touchdown for Darwin game and look at him calm cool and collected Josh you don't even see a reaction out of dirt when James he knows this is business as usual and this is going to be a huge Drive coming up for Keenan Allen right here if he can just get himself some points before the end of this first half and keep this a one possession game going into the second half he'll be in good shape so the big minute in 2040 good recipe if Drew and James moves on though RG tomorrow we've got offense versus defense ne Weiss and the Sammy's right it'll be Tyree killed up against Denzel Ward it would be Derwin James up against the Shawn Jackson but Keenan Allen trying defenders in there he's getting ready to send heavy pressure and running the ball is a good tactic against that kind of defense because they have trouble you know scraping to the outside same thing wide receiver running the ball Keenan Allen but again Madden play it life imitates art only sometimes I haven't seen a lot of Lamar Jackson running yes that's I do got so much you can do with Lamar Jackson or DJ scoping it out defensively I think DJ is just doing a good job containing and he's sending a lot of pressure I'll offer those edges off of those edges he's calling QB contains and then he always at least has a spy on the field so really just forcing Lamar to you know hand that ball off and make reads not really being able to scramble and pick up those yards with his legs if you came to now into the fourth quarter we go diving catch Wow yeah had he been able to stay on his feet you might have turned the corner but least Hollywood's got it yeah you heard him and he said why'd you center full-time I was gonna be very strange man like you said being one quarterback my whole career we pretty much established a great connection a great relationship on and off the field just a guy that I could talk to about anything especially football he helped me along the way get to where I am with my knowledge and I'm just as far as seeing seeing things on the field that he was seeing and being able to read it you know without having too much communication at the line of scrimmage so having that next guy come in you know you know understand what what I'm used to and uh you know just try to create recreate a whole new chemistry of them the whole uh connection and I was coming from Durham when I'll kind of ask you the same question you know I know that Phillip Rivers it's not too common that we see a quarterback and you know a safety kind of make connection there may be learning off of each other but what has Phillip Rivers done to kind of help your career you know especially a young guy coming in and playing multiple positions just talking to him you know in practices that's him telling me my tendencies what I can get better on and just being a leader and a good got to be around in the locker room so I'll just say my time with him was was amazing it was great that's rare right it's it's rare when you see a quarterback kind of talk to a safety and kind of you know kind of help them along pointing out some some of their tendencies I would it's not a story I hear often oh yeah no missing all right so Keenan you know you talked about Phillip Rivers moving on it's gonna be strange and I get that I would imagine Tyrod Taylor's gonna get the first crack at the starting gig how do you feel about that what does he bring to the table it's how I was great God do a great quarterback he can run it he can make plays by yourself and he obviously had the deep ball he has a cannon and and he likes to make a good read low low turnover rating it's just so far his career any I know he knows that he knows that I'm offering as well he's ready to he's ready to play and make some place what is the 2020 charger season look like for you Keenan oh it's another 16 games that's my goal just trying to stay on the field try to stay available for my team and keep trying to be consistent what's gonna be different here you know you've got a young offensive coordinator Shane Steichen he's gonna have the entire offseason to kind of prep everybody you know what are you expecting to be different under a Shane Steichen offense than what you were used to in the past not too much different I've actually been with Shane every year but said like two years since I've been here so Shane's been around he understands the offense I don't think he's gonna change too much I'm just probably some terminology stuff to clean probably clean some stuff up in the right game and the passing game as far as because without feel you know he can't feel Kent you know had nobody at the line making making the same reason to feel was so that's gonna be a big part now you know just just hopefully can keep us on the road and that Derwin I'll close out with you I got to imagine you're pretty excited about the secondary because when I look at that Chargers team overall I really think the strength really lies in that secondary you're one of the two or three best safeties in the game you're getting Nasir Adderley back who's a ball hawk we'll see what he can do and then you add a Chris Harris jr. and they all you got Chris Heyward one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL as well that's secondary to me looks like one of the best in the NFL yeah but we got to come out of shore this year I mean right now paper looks good we got to just work hard gel together and just play hard and I feel like 20-20-20 is gonna be a great year for us and the secondary another team all right very cool hey real quick how is you know kovat 19 impacted your off seasons and German we'll start with you I know working out is pretty difficult you know how have you kind of gotten around that working around that you know it's been tough you know unfortunately we're fortunate the vars doesn't been going around has thought a lot of things but you know I've been at the house getting it in and then my gym kind of just opened so you know I'm starting to get back in in the shape so it's been going good for me and they can't and how about yourself yeah same thing it's pretty much staying in the house with the kids not doing too much staying on a video game all right tension of the off seat there you go I imagined Erwin James gonna have a couple bragging rights at least until the next match up dirt when James takes down Keenan Allen a hotly contested one really close high-level Madden being played start with you you know it's it's strange you know it felt like a real high-level competitive Madden vibe that's the vibe I got from that game it's something that we're very used to seeing in the MCs know for sure and it was a good game I mean Derwin every time it felt like Keenan Allen was like ready to make it was that third down or he's ready to get off the field are ready to make the play to get back in the game Darwin just clutched up every single time so I'm gonna be interested to see tomorrow if we can see Darwin are Tyreke faced a little of adversity in their matchups on the road to the finals cuz I think right now it's got to be obvious the favorite is probably gonna be Darwin verse Tyreke in the finals is what everybody I think is expecting here alright Josh we got a good group of games here what were your takeaways well you know what's interesting to me I know it's just cosmetics James but nobody will go for it he kind of did that by forfeit but we're gonna have
