New Wine | Friday Night Sermon

evening i'm going to be reading for dad from mark chapter 2. um if you would like to turn with me from verse 18 to 22 and it says the disciples of john and of the pharisees were fasting then they came and said to him why did the disciples of john and of the pharisees fast but your disciples do not fast and jesus said to them can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them as long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast but the days will come when the bride room bridegroom will be taken away from them and then they will fast in those days no one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment or else the new piece pulls away from the old and the tear is made worse and no one puts new wine into old wine skins or else the new wine bursts the wine skins the wine is spilled and the wine skins are ruined but new wine must be put into new wine skins amen amen father i thank you that you want to affect our lives here tonight father father you want to give us your fullness of your spirit and our lives here tonight father and father you want to deal with everything that is stopping the best coming your best coming to our life lord and i want to bless you father that you always save the best to last and your best is coming to your church there is new wine coming to your church and i want to bless you i want to bless you that you want to pour that out tonight so come light your word up in our hearts lord and let us leave here knowing we've received your touch your inevitable touch lord in jesus mighty name amen i'm picking this passage tonight about uh new wine and and new wine skins and uh and jesus spoke this passage in he spoke at two people who uh were religious they were they were followers of john the baptist and john the baptist was he was used by god and he preached the gospel of repentance and he was preaching the gospel of repentance and he was also had his followers with him and there was also the pharisees with uh with john the baptist that says they were together and they were upset because they saw jesus and uh and the pharisees were so religious and they were they were so proud of their religious efforts and their works and all their doing and the old testament actually said you only had to fast on the day of atonement but they fasted every tuesday and thursday because they were convinced all their working and all their effort was making them acceptable god even though they didn't know god they had no relationship with god they didn't know god they didn't know what he loved they didn't know what he hate they were so far away from god it wasn't funny yet they they they believed they were god's people and yet when god came and manifested in the flesh and the purpose of person of jesus christ and stood right in front of them they call him a heretic because mainly two things because he wouldn't fast and he wouldn't keep the sabbath as they kept the sabbath because jesus said you don't understand god you think god's all about rule keeping that men keep the sabbath for god he says no that's what this happened with give it god gave the sabbath to man for man to give him rest and and and they were particularly upset and they they were calling him a heretic and they doubted that he was saved because they were all fasting john the baptist followers were all fasting the pharisees are all fasting and all they saw were jesus was feasting and he's just feasting and they were particularly upset because he was feasting with tax collectors and prostitutes and the tax collectors are like a modern-day drug dealer they got the social status and they made money out of other people's misery so he's actually he actually likes hanging around these broken people these people who rejected by everybody else he and it just drove them nuts and he says to them well you can't expect me to fast you can't expect my followers to fast because when the groom's with the bride it's not time for fasting it's time for celebrating and he's basically saying the church and his followers is the bride he's the groom and he's with them and he says after i go there'll be a time for fasting but not now now's the time for rejoicing and celebration because i'm here and what i'm doing and and yet they missed it all and and then jesus he says this he says no one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment or else the new piece pulls away from the old and the tear is made worse basically saying you know uh new garments shrink and if you put a new garment or a new a new patch a new bit of cloth which is unshrunken onto a an already shrunken bitter cloth it'll shrink and it'll tear the other bit of cloth and and both the cloth and the patch will be ruined and he said the same thing with a wine skin he said no one puts he's making the same put new wine into an old wine skin or else the new wine bursts the wine skid the wine is spilled the wine skins are ruined but new wine must be put into new wine skins and again he's making the point he's saying when you new wine actually it actually ferments and it expands and so it's got to be put into something that is supple and expandable and pliable he said an old wine skin all the chemicals and all the stuff's gone out of it he says they're actually rigid and if you put the new wine in the old wine skin as it ferments and expands it bursts the old wine skin and everything's ruined and he says you don't do that and the point he's making is is it is that he says i've come to give new wine the tax collectors the the prostitutes understood its new life it's jesus christ himself i came to give the life of god to people he said but i can't give it to you if you're stuck in your old structures and you're stuck in your old mindset if you're stuck in your old ways he said there has to be a change and he said your old ways when you think it's all about doing when you think it's all about effort where you think it's all about your works when you think about working for god is what it's all about he says i can't give you my life because if i do it'll spill out in the ground you won't be able to contain it you won't be able to receive it it'll be ruined you'll be ruined you won't be able to contain it and he said i won't give it to you like that and tonight i actually want to say jesus christ came to give new wine and he wants to give each and every one of us here new wine and that new wine begins with first of all begins with a new message the old covenant and the new covenant the old covenant is the old wine skin the new covenant is the new wine and what the pharisees that were trying to do with their old wine skin is that they are actually trying to keep rules do a whole lot of things thinking that was making them righteous before god and they were actually convinced that they were righteous and these pharisees and tax collectors were completely unrighteous because they weren't doing the works that they were doing that's the old coven and that's the old wineskin the new one skin is the new wine is this it begins with a new message is that you don't have to work to be righteous jesus christ left heaven and he did all the work for you he lived a perfectly righteous life never sinned on your account and then at the end of his life he allowed himself to be struck down and he shed his blood so all your unrighteous acts were forgiven and washed away and he's done all the work for you all you have to do is believe that's it it's jesus plus nothing what a good news message never get tired of hearing it it's jesus plus nothing and see the old wine skin is all about do i got to do and i see even believers today thinking they got to do they got to do and they're afraid god's not really going to accept them unless they're going to this prayer meeting they're going to miss that one or they they and they can't they can't stop doing because they're thinking that's what making them righteous with god the message is this it's not do it's done it's been done and see when you receive and you realize you don't have to do any more but actually it's been done by christ for you who came to give the new wine when you realize that he did it all the effect of receiving jesus not works and not laws is that what does wine do wine produces joy and you receive the cri christ has done it all for me i receive him and he produces joy because the holy spirit comes to fill me and then it produces celebration and that's what new wine is associated with and and and the pharisees knew nothing of that they knew nothing of joy and they knew nothing of celebration and one of the evidence that you may be an old covenant person not a new covenant person is that everything you're doing is actually not really producing a righteous life and you've got no joy and you've got no celebration you should come into the house of god every week and say it's such a glorious thing it doesn't matter why that he did it all for me and that message should never grow old it should never stop producing joy and the thing is when you receive christ as the one who did it all for you and you say i can't do anything to satisfy god but he did it all for me you know what happens when you get down indeed he actually fills you with what the bible calls new wine it's the holy spirit and he said your pharisees and john the baptist disciples you can't receive it and i will not give it to you until you stop working until you stop your own effort i will not give it to you that way i'll only give it to you when you realize all your works are filthy rags and it's christ alone his works that satisfy he said when you actually come to that place and you receive me as the only one the only one the only means of salvation no works just christ he said then you can receive the new wine and boy john jesus actually told her uh well he went to a wedding once and his first miracle i find it extraordinary in john chapter one you've got jesus christ described as the one who everything was created for and created through this great power of god who created every galaxy everything was created through him and then he comes to earth and you would think the first miracle he would do would be raising lazarus but it's not it's turning water into wine because the wine is so important the first thing he did the first miracle he did was turning water into wine and he did that to show the contrast between the old covenant the old system of working doing human effort fasting and that which produces mourning reverence but no joy and the wine that actually you know in that parable or in that story where it turns the water into wine wine takes a long time to produce but not his wine you've got to crush it you've got to tread it down he produced it supernaturally and the wine he gives is a supernatural wine it is the holy spirit and it produces joy and it produces celebration because it continues to testify the holy spirit of what christ has done for us what christ has done for and you know at the end of that that parable where jesus changed the water to wine it tells us a number of things but at the end of the when the the master actually tasted the wine that jesus produced he said oh at a wedding everybody produces the good wine first and then the rubbishy stuff at the end when everyone's had a bit to drink he says but you have saved the best wine to last and if you receive jesus christ i want to tell you your best is still ahead when you're about to die you some people that their best life was that they had when they're 20 but if you've really received the holy spirit it gets better and better and better and better and the best is still to come the best is at the end that's what the holy spirit does and he comes and jesus transformed 30 gallons which means the holy spirit wants to come and fill us with abundance so we're flowing over and we've got blessings to give other people so he says i want to give you my spirit and when my spirit comes within you everything changes because it's called new wine because his spirit makes everything new ezekiel said this he said i'm going to put my spirit within you and i'll give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you i'll take the heart of stone out of you and give you a heart of flesh because when the new wine of his spirit comes it brings newness to every part of our life particularly our heart you've got a hard bitter heart when jesus gives you the new wine of his spirit that heart instantly changes to a soft pliable believing heart he takes that broken hurting bitter disappointed betrayed heart it's a supernatural work he comes when the holy spirit comes with the new wine that new wine instantly produces a new heart because everything that new wine touches actually becomes new and jesus says i want to give this wine i don't i will not i will not perpetuate the old deal i will not mix the new wine with the old the old system of doing's got to go because what i've come to give you jesus said is a completely new deal it's not judaism it's completely new he says i want to give it to you and you know that wine when it comes that wine the power of the holy spirit in our life is a source of miracles it is the source of miracles and jesus he made this point he said he went to this wedding in john chapter 2 and the people ran out of wine which was a problem in that day but it wasn't a catastrophe it wasn't a disaster they ran out of wine and it was an embarrassment but isn't it wonderful jesus cares even about our embarrassments he cares and they came to him and they said we're out of wine and and they went to mary first to his mother and says we're out of wine right and and jesus says it's not my not my time but she said to them whatever he says do it whatever he says do it and jesus then turned to them and he says there's water pots over there and those water pots are filled with 30 gallons of water each and he says go and fill the ceremonial water jars up with water and so that water we know in the end of the story was miraculously transformed into wine it was it was miraculously transformed into wine but i want to show you something if we want to not only receive the new wine but continue to receive new wine to continue to be filled with new wine you know he'll do his part but we've got to do ours they had to go down to those get those water shots down to the the well digger and it was 30 it was it was 30 gallons of six jars six containers with 30 gallons each it was many trips to the world to bring it back it didn't just happen many trips to the well many chips the world many trips to many trips and after they did all those trips and they'd done that bit he did hit bit and he turned it into wine and it's like that with all the time he said hand out the bread and when they did their bit the five loaves a little bit of bread turned into his miracle power came and transformed it with jesus he said with peter he says you've fished a little bit but now you go and fish some more and then he he gave the miraculous catch so jesus he did this transformation and he will continue to bring the new wine continue to transform the ordinary of your life into a supernatural bringing supernatural power to you as you walk in obedience to his word they he said he said just go and do it and and you know it was it was an unusual word i mean he said to these people they wanted wine and sometimes you ask for wine they say we want wine and he gave him water because his ways are not our ways and sometimes when you want wine when you want his miraculous miracle power in your life he gives you water but you know what when they worked the water and they obeyed the water they said do whatever he says he says go and take the water and put it in the jars get down the well and put it in the jars and as they walked in obedience to that word the miracle power came and the water was turned into wine so sometimes your wine doesn't come when you ask for wine it comes he gives you water first and then as you obey him he turns it into wine so jesus wants to give us i i believe he wants to give us the holy spirit and i believe i'm convinced having pastored in the church and preached for more than 25 years 26 years i'm convinced there are many people who are still trying to work for god and need to receive the fullness of the holy spirit in their life and i believe that much of the church is like those water pots thank you lord much of the church is like those water pots you know those water parts that were filled with water they're used for ceremonial purposes but when they got the wine when the wine came those pots become receptacles of miracles and i believe that's what kind of come to the church the church that has been so ceremonial is going to become a house a source of miracles a container of miracles because jesus is going to pour his holy spirit the new wines coming to the church again so you cannot receive you cannot receive the holy spirit with an old mindset with a works mindset with a doing mindset you cannot receive the fullness of christ and his spirit in your life thinking that it's all about my doing now he said i can't put the new wine into new wine into old wine skins i need to put new wine into new wine skins so you need to be a new wine skin to receive the fullness of the holy spirit the power of the holy spirit the fruit of the holy spirit in your life to receive his joy to receive the fullness of christ to receive his gifts to receive his spirit you need to be a new wine skin and what is the new wine skins is the new wine skins the old wine skids became rigid and hard and some people they become when i say rigid and hard and that means like i've i've decided what i've decided religiously i've got my ways there's no one that can tell me everything but a new wine skit is pliable it's it's able to be it's pliable and that means it's teachable you can't say you can't receive the holy spirit and say i don't know care what you say i know everything there is to know about god i've been a christian for so long i've been around longer than you pass i know what every i just know what god's about i know people who live like that and god says i won't give it to oh i just won't give it to you you've actually got to be teachable and continually be teachable and have a teachable spirit that i do not know everything i got to have a changed mindset and so god says you're to be a new wine skin you've got to be teachable i'll tell you a new wine skin also it's it's actually able to be stretched are you able to be stretched stretched sometimes you get stretched with a chastening or a correction sometimes you get stretched when god asks you to do something you've never done before are you asked but you know when when when god stretches you he's really expanding you and if you aren't able to be stretched you can't be expanded but the holy spirit when he comes into your life jesus said he told the parable the mustard seed when the holy spirit comes into your life everything increases and expands and will never diminish if something's really kingdom it only ever increases and god wants it to expand and expand and expand and expand and someone who has a new wine-skied mind spit mindset isn't satisfied isn't satisfying where they are they actually want to be stretched and they want to expand stretch out your tent oh barren woman you're about to expand to the left and the right and you actually see it you desire it and you believe it's all god's purpose for you you want more you want to be expanded you want to be stretched because you know when the holy spirit comes that's what he does he expands and stretching moses said i can't talk i stutter he became god stretched him and he became the greatest prophet ever gideon was hiding in the winepress but god expanded and stretched and became a great warrior and and people who want the holy spirit receive the holy spirit they don't think they know it all they're teachable and they're stretchable and they're expandable and you know i i just saw something here today in john chapter one and i believe this is this is what god the holy spirit is saying to me today and i don't want to preach long tonight because i i just don't want to preach that i'm preaching again on sunday i'll be preaching a million times lately but i i do believe god wants to work tonight he wants to fill people with the holy spirit and and and god wants to change some people's minds about his ways his ways of salvation and he wants to bring us into something new he wants to give us new wine and i believe many people are being living a religious life under an old covenant mindset and an old uh an old way which god cannot pour the fullness of his blessing into your life and and god showed me this that you know uh john's disciples jesus spoke this to john's disciples not just the pharisees john's disciples he says no no you you because john's disciples what they preached they preached only a gospel of repentance now the gospel of repentance is important but a lot of people stop there but the message of pentecost is repent believe and receive but a lot of people have stopped and they've heard a gospel of repentance and that's all they've ever walked in and they've never desired never hungered never wanted the fullness of the spirit the gifts of the holy spirit the word of knowledge the gift of healing the gift of miracles or the power of the holy spirit upon your life they've just been content hearing the gospel that like i said christ is my righteousness i believe in him now i've got to go and tell other people that message but you see to receive the new we got to be like in john chapter 1 we've got to be like uh these two disciples called andrew and simon it says that the next day in john 1 35 john stood with two of these disciples this is john who preached the gospel of of repentance and looking at jesus as he walked he said behold the lamb of god and the two disciples heard him speak and when they heard him speak they never heard any like it this man was uneducated this man they thought was just a carpenter this man was not part of the religious mafia of the day this man hung around this uh prostitution tax claim but when he spoke they they he spoke things into their spirit he spoke things that didn't just touch their mind he spoke things that made their heart rejoice they knew this man was speaking something that was from heaven because their spirit started to respond and it was more than a message of repentance and they'd been with john for a season and john's gospel of repentance was good but they realized it's time to trade the good for the better and it says when they heard him speak they followed him and they remained with him they left what had been good and they went after the one who was better john did not have the new wine nobody had the holy spirit until christ was crucified but they followed the one who trod the wine pressed alone and when he was crucified he was crushed and the purpose of that crushing was to produce new wine and they received it they received the holy spirit they received the joy that makes us celebrate every day because christ has done all the work for me they received gifts of the holy spirit they prophesied they spoke in other tongues they laid hands on the sick and they recovered they see they received the power of the holy spirit in their life even peter when they laid people sick in the street the power of god that was upon his life the sick would get healed they received the fullness of the new wine because they were able to trade what is good for what is better and i believe there are many people in the church of jesus christ today who are like simon and peter who'd been with john they'd been with something good they'd been with and heard the gospel of repentance that yes we need to repent of our sins but they've never received the new wine they have not received the fullness of the holy spirit they have not received the baptism of the holy spirit they have not received everything christ came to give them and i believe god is saying there is a change coming people are going to get up out of religion people are going to get up out of the gospel of repentance people are going to get up and they're going to say god something's happening in this season you're making me hungry for more i'm not just satisfied with knowing my sins are forgiven and telling the world about that i want the fullness you said when i believed and received i would also lay hands on the sick and they would be healed i would also speak in new tongues i would also like i would also cast out demons i want the fullness i just want what john had i want all that christ has for me i want the new wine he's making people thirsty i know he's making people thirsty and i know that some people some people have been in that old mindset where it is about doing it's about my religious life it's about doing it's about going to church it's about doing this about doing that but not having christ do it through you by the holy spirit it's about human effort it's about figuring all out with your mind but it's not receiving the mind of christ in the holy spirit it's about trying and striving to overcome sin in your own flesh and failing over and over again and not receiving the power of the holy spirit which makes you overcome sin it's about trying to change your life become better and better and better get rid of your anger get rid of your frustration get rid of your lovelessness instead of receiving the holy spirit who produces self-control long-suffering and love in your heart there's a lot of people that have been trying to do and god says you're gonna change your way you gotta surrender to me and let me do it through you you got to receive and know the holy spirit is everything to the christian you know why the holy spirit is everything to the christian because god is in heaven christ at his right hand and the only one that's left on earth to help us is the holy spirit and he is the person of the new wine so god wants to fill you tonight he wants to do something new in your life and he is doing something new and i believe the new thing he's doing he's coming to his church again particularly he's coming to those that have been stuck on the gospel and they've heard the gospel of repentance and that's the gospel of personal salvation but it's not the fullness of the gospel of the kingdom that jesus preached and he's saying i've got more john the baptist wasn't bad he was great but what you've been in hasn't been bad has been good but i've got more but you need to change you need to say i don't want the old i want the new i want the fullness i want the fullness i want the fullness and some people you've had the fullness but the miracles have stopped and they've stopped because your radical obedience has stopped and jesus said to them it didn't make sense fill the water pots up the water turned into wine his miracles happened through their obedience and god wants to produce his power again in some people's life who've gone off the boil and god says you need to you need to repent of some disobedience you need to turn some disobedience into obedience because god wants to do miracles in your life he wants to bring his power into your life he wants to supernaturally transform the water into wine the ordinary the super he wants to transform what you can't change by his power and he says that power comes through your obedience so i want us to pray and i want to pray tonight i know the god wants to fill people with his spirit god wants to bring something new to you this is a this is a new era people can sense since 2020 everything's changing and god's seasons are changing and i believe he's saying that that he wants to bring the fullness of the holy spirit into the church he wants to make that church like those water pots instead of ceremonial he wants to make it a place where miracles happen because his power is there the new wine is in those pots new wine is in the church and he wants to say to you are you trying to work out your own salvation are you trying to through human effort the the answer the evidence of that is you'll have no joy and your life is not becoming more and more righteous it's static have you only ever embraced the gospel of salvation but not received the newness the fullness that christ wants to give you his new wine his new wine is christ himself he is your righteousness he did all the works for you his new wine produces joy and celebration when you have the new wine you don't struggle to change things the supernatural power of the holy spirit changes them for you if you walk in the fullness of that new wine your life will get better and better and at the end you will say indeed the best has been saved to last if you need to receive i believe tonight if you have received christ as your savior if you have come here tonight and you know your heart is like a stone or empty god wants to produce a miracle he wants to change it and he wants to give you his holy spirit and his holy spirit results in you receiving a new heart the heart of stone taken out heart of flesh coming in it's a miracle god wants to do that for someone here tonight god there are people here tonight that you just you just know something you read this book and you just know that you're not experiencing the fullness of what christ lived and how the early church lived and maybe you understand sin and the cross in repentance but you haven't received gifts of the holy spirit you don't have dreams and visions you don't hear the voice of god clearly it's because all that comes in the holy spirit and god wants to move you like john's disciple out of the good into the better and he wants to give you the fullness but you know to receive the new wine you're going to be thirsty for that you've got to be you're going to want the fullness you've got to want the new you cannot be satisfied with what you got you know most of john's disciples were satisfied and they stayed where they were but these two jesus took them on and made a miracle of their lives because they wanted more and i know there are some people here you're sick of the staleness of your church you stick at the staleness of religion you're sick of the staleness you've been in one spot for a long long time and god is saying i'm doing a new thing on earth the season has changed it's a new order i want to give you new wine i know there are many people in that place i'm tired of what i've been living in i'm tired and i sense on earth things are changing god is about to knew when he's going to do something fresh and i want to be a part of it i want to be part of that remnant company that walk not only in purity not only in principle but in the power of the holy spirit if you need to receive the holy spirit tonight if you're struggling in your own flesh if your life is powerless to overcome sin if you're joyless if you're not becoming more and more righteous you need to be filled with the holy spirit tonight and maybe you were phil but god says you need to be filled again because sometimes we leak but god says tonight he wants to pour new wine his new wine into people christ's blood has washed you clean he's done all the work if you want to receive tonight if you want to receive you want to if i don't want to just have another meeting if you want to receive the holy spirit tonight i want you to make a move towards god tonight either stand and raise your hands or come out here and just kneel down because i believe i believe god is positioning people he's doing something new and he's he's releasing to people what we've been waiting for for a long time and that is the fullness and the blessing of the holy spirit he wants to do something new in your life tonight he wants to do something new if you want it i want you to stand or come forward and just kneel down i'm not going to lay hands i'm just going to let the holy spirit deal with you tonight just let the holy spirit come because this is a season oh thank you father you are doing something new you're doing a new thing and it's not religion it's not religious you're very spirit within us it's your life within us the life of god in my temple father i want to thank you i want to thank you i want to thank you you don't want to give us joyless dead works you want to give us christ the joy of him his salvation you want to give us his very life you want to give us his very power you want to give us his very purity and father every every empty vessel that's come forward tonight every empty vessel that's come forward tonight every person that's thirsty here tonight in the name of jesus in the name of jesus receive the holy spirit in the name of jesus be filled with the holy spirit from the base of your toes to the tip of your head be filled with new wine let new wine overflow let the water of your life be transformed in the miraculous power of the life of jesus christ or let the miracle power of jesus christ come into your life father god i ask lord of release gifts of the holy spirit into these people today gifts of the holy spirit word of knowledge word of miracles lord oh lord word of wisdom father oh lord new wine lord do something new in everyone's life here today lord not something that you've already done lord you're a god who renews us from god something new touch them give them some new expression of your love some new expression of your joy some new expression of your power oh father i thank you i thank you lord lord all we need to be is empty for you to fill us all we needed to be is humble for you to fill us all we need to be is stretchable and teachable you're going to expand us you're going to bring your kingdom expansion into our lives lord oh thank you lord thank you for the expansion that you're going to bring i see god saying here of the increase of my kingdom there is no end he says i'm going to expand you i'm going to stretch you it's going to be all the work of my spirit i'm going to make more of your life than you'd ever imagine because i when i put the new wine in it brings expansion it brings increase it's all the work of the holy spirit lord i thank you it's not my might but my power but is your spirit you are here right now you are here right now you are here right now i don't even know i don't even but i know god wants to release a supernatural gift on your life i believe god is going to give you the word of knowledge you're going to hear from heaven he's going to open your ears you're going to have knowledge of people's lives that no one else has had receive it today receive it today i believe god wants to make these hands healing hands that when you lay hands on the sick these hands are going to get hot and you're going to know the power of god's moving through you hallelujah hallelujah god says to you david the same thing the best is yet to come you're like simeon the things that he's promised you're still going to see the best is yet to come whatever it is hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah everything that is dry everything that is dreamt everything that is all low become filled become refreshed become overflowing today lord jesus christ says i fill you afresh i feel you afresh to overflowing and he says i've got people for you to reach i got people for you to reach that i'm going to reach them through you it's going to be new you're not going to have a tract you're going to have a plan i'm just going to do it all through you all through all through you hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah that new wine that new wine he says i'll do a miracle that new one's a source of a miracle and i don't know what you what you what you need but god says i'm transforming something you don't even know how it happens but i change the water in the wine just believe me something is changing that you can't change he's changing it hallelujah hallelujah
