in this video I would like to show you a mindblowing film look creator that has just been added to the newest update of denture resolve denture resolve 19 film look Creator can help you build your own filmic looks and it allows to fully customize it in a few simple steps so let me show you exactly how this works and I will be working using this black magic clip that has already been color managed and as a reminder you can learn proper color management and many more useful color grading related things if you join my color grading course you can find the link to it below this video but coming back to today's tutorial I have also color corrected my clip this is before and after so we are ready to move straight to the film look Creator and this tool is unfortunately only available for the studio version users and you can find it in the effects stab so let's search for it and let's drop it onto the note so here we can choose from a few different fully customizable presets first we have 65 mil this is before and after then we have 35 mil then we have cinematic then we have bleach bypass then nostalgic that really resembles the old footage then we have a default look but with no effects and then at the end we have custom and I will be using the custom mode today so then we have the color blend and the effects blend sliders so here we can basically disable all color Effects by moving this color blend slider to the left and the same way we can disable all other effects I don't have any effects applied yet so this slider is not doing anything then we can select the option called 3D lot compatible and this option basically disables all the effects that cannot be transposed into a 3D lot in case you would like to export our film look as a lot so just to demonstrate it let's change the preset from Custom to cinematic as here we have the letter box that cannot be burned into the lot so when I select 3D L compatible it disappears okay but let's go back to our previous custom preset and then we have color space overrides so basically our tool will be working in the color space our project is set to my project is set to the whest DCI white gamut so I will not be changing anything here but if you work with different footages you could change it here manually to the native color space of your Clips so now let's move to our color settings so first we have here the exposure slider and the first amazing cool thing about this exposure control is that it's a photometric exposure that allows to create a very smooth exposure adjustments just look how this slider works very very smoothly all right then we have the contrast control and again it works very smoothly I will leave it here then we have the highlights control and I will not be adjusting much here as I don't have any harsh highlights then we have the Fate control that affects shadows and here we can for example create this characteristic faded look like this this is before and after just look at the difference it's crazy already we can really transform any clip completely but let me push it back then we have white balance and this control uses chromatic adaptation that works towards color constancy keeping object colors constant even while the illumination changes so again it's a very smooth way of adjusting the white balance and I will leave it here then we have tint control so we can change the tint if we need too and then we have another great control called Skin bias that can help us adjust the skin tones better so look how selective this tool is when I'm moving it left to right you see I'm affecting mostly the skin tones then we have subtractive saturation and this control works better than a standard saturation controls as it doesn't affect the Luminous so it gives a very natural saturation adjustment okay then we have richness that enhances richness of the saturation like this and then we have a bleach bypass control that's again very cool as there are several ways in resolve to create a bleach bers look but now we can add it to our film look using this one slider like this and I'll leave it somewhere here now we have a split tone control and there's a video on my channel where you can properly learn what split toning and how to create it but here we can add split toning using only three sliders and in simple words what split toning does it separates it's red green and blue channels in the highlights and shadows that gives a very nice color separation so when we move it to the right this is what's happening we are basically adding red in the highlights and blue or green in the shadows this is obviously too much but we can add just a tiny bit to create more of a tea and orange feel to our clip like this then we can shift the Hue angle to refine it like this and then we can also refine the pivot if needed okay then we have a wellknown vignette that we can add to our clip and here we can easily manipulate the amount and the size of the vignette then we have halation so let's maybe zoom in to be a able to show you how it works as it's a very subtle effect so here look at the face this is before and after and I was talking about theh halation in my previous videos so it's a basically that soft glow around the bright areas of the clip so let's increase the amount and the radius so you can see better okay and then we can also change the Hue of theh halation here and let's zoom out but I will take out quite a lot of it I want a very subtle effect then we can add some Bloom it's actually quite subtle effect as well it depends on how much brightness we have in our clip so let me increase it to the max to show you how it works okay there's a bit of the bloom added here I hope you can see it on YouTube then we have grain so let's enable it and here again we can choose from many different presets and we can customize it so let me zoom in to show you we can adjust the amount of the grain size softness saturation Etc if you have watched my older videos you know this effect already so I will add only a little bit of it okay then we have flicker so here we can add this characteristic for the very old footage flicker so let me increase it to the max so you see how it looks okay I've obviously exaggerated but I'm sure you have seen this flicker in some very old black and white movies but I will disable it actually then we also have a gate wave and gate wve is also very characteristic camera Shake seen in the old footage so let me again increase it to the max to show you okay and then we have film gate and this is that rectangular opening in the front of a camera where the film is exposed to light and here we have all of these old school presets to choose from but I will disable it actually I don't want any of them and then at the end we've got Global blend and here we can blend all of these changes with our original clip so in case we think we have exaggerated we can take out a bit of these effects and this is our before and after we have completely transformed our clip with this one new tool and I hope you have a lot of fun using it this is the advanced tool so if you would like to learn more basics of the resolve have a look at my color griding course there's a link in the description below and see you on the next one
