this weekend marks an even centuries worth of homecoming games in Missoula for the Montana Grizzlies and you know what that means Washington Grizzlies stadium will be rocking this afternoon for a big sky tilt with the Bengals from Pocatello the root sports game of the week watches right now [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Big Sky football on root sports is presented by your local Ford store last weekend portions of the state of Montana wallops by an unseasonable snowstorm today we are snow free in Missoula for a pair of Big Sky teams looking to take their conference records to two and oh it's Idaho State taking on number eight Montana are you doing everybody along with Taylor Barton I'm Tom Glasgow always fun to come to Washington grizzly Stadium such a terrific place to play football yeah and it's really one of the most passionate fan bases in the country the stadium 25,000 plus and it is always standing room only for the Idaho State bingos they're hoping to accomplish today something they haven't done in this city never in this stadium a win against Montana here in Missoula you got to go all the way back to 1983 so let's talk about some interesting connections between the two coaching staffs specifically Taylor the two head coaches where you talk about the entire staff offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator for Idaho State played at Montana and Montana State the head coach coached at Montana with Bobby how so there's a lot of familiarity they talked about having the same warm-ups in the beginning of the game but Bobby how can his staff know that so look for them to make some change ups in their hand signals and play calls maybe some changes as well for Rob Tennessee and his Idaho State staff with that in mind the last season Montana had a big issue in terms of finishing games out that's a rough second half where they have flipped that this season they have been an outstanding second-half team and that includes what they did last week at UC Davis a huge second half thanks in large part to the outstanding duel quarterback Doug Sneed five touchdown passes last week what we've really seen him grow so much from last year to this year and we've really seen growth from game to game this year last week in the second half he basically played a flawless game and here's the difference now he's standing tall in the pocket and he's throwing the ball up and giving his receivers a chance to go and make plays he was double covered there at him but don't entrust in him and not when you have a guy like Joey McGee you find ways to get rhythm dog is able to find time and give Jerry a chance to go make that play yeah when guys make plays for you you go over and give him a hug I know state comes into this game with a two and two record that's a bit deceiving they had to go on the road take on a pac-12 team and you talk she did a pretty good job in that contest on the road Northern Iowa and FCS powers so I wouldn't read too much into that record they seem to be improve defensively or offensively a bit of a question mark only because we have not seen a lot of their starting quarterback Matt's truck due to injury but when he plays he has played very well yeah really only played two complete games but when he's played a complete game he's put up very good numbers and moved this offense they need to do a good job today of giving a matched protection having running backs chip having tight end stay in and protect a little bit before they go into their routes if he can have time and be on his feet throwing he'll put up some big numbers they have some good receivers to throw to same story for Dalton Sneed outstanding guys catching the football today here in Missoula right now let's send it to our roots board studio so we say hello to Angie Mentink guys thanks so much and as you mentioned Idaho State coach Bob fantasy is all too familiar with Montana coach Bobby how fantasy was on houses staff during his first stint in Missoula and followed him to UNLV five years ago fantasy took the wide receivers job at Idaho State then earned a promotion to head coach without giving up his original title but I like to say I'm just an assistant coach that happens to be a head coach and you know we're structured a little bit differently whereas I'm also the receivers coach and so when we're in the staff room as an offense Mike farad is in charge and he tells me you know what he wants it what he needs and we've we've argued on things like a coordinator position coach would you know not as head coach offensive coordinator because you have to have that he has to be in charge I can't be that it's his offense and fantasy the head coach had to love the job that Fennessy the position coach did last week Idaho state's top three wide receivers combined for 269 yards through the air and six touchdowns Tanner Conner currently leads the Big Sky with five touchdown catches and I'm joined now by former Washington State wide receiver Michael bumpass and last week Montana controlled the high-powered UC Davis passing attack thanks to their 335 defense alright so can you help us understand how they got it done three three five deep it's it's so tough to throw the ball game so you can drop eight guys in the coverage here's your three down linemen they're your three linebackers and now you got five DBS out there in the backfield so what's up to throw the ball against these guys and it allows me to play his own and that Mike linebacker can keep the quarterback keep his eyes on the quarterback he drops into his own right here nice little pig Montana has seven picks in a big sky that leaves the Big Sky here's one of them they're also what that allows those safeties to keep your eyes on the quarterback it's all about play recognition and common ground combination recognition here's what we got here eyes in the backfield corvette rolls out just rally to the football it is so tough to throw the ball against its defense all right now my goal that you have broken down the basics of the defense how will these receivers try to attack it where are the openings well you really have to start with this seam so you got to work the scenes that's the hashes and use the planche and that plaques and we'll make that Mike linebacker make those outside linebackers bite down and hopefully open up some space in the backfield so you know it's a little chess match we'll see what happens here but receivers you got to make plays and it's gonna be tough takes one to know one Mitch Koehler could set a school record today with 45 yards Guler will hold the old time yardage mark for receivers at Idaho State just about Sandburg from a jam-packed Washington grizzly Stadium in Missoula Idaho State looking for their first win against the Grizzlies since 2003 up next Tom and Taylor half the call for Big Sky football presented by your local Ford dealer [Music] [Applause] [Music] the root sports traveling Roadshow has returned to the treasure state for the Big Sky Conference game of the week the bangles of Idaho State University are on the prowl for elusive prey Montana answered the call in stunning fashion last week in Northern California dispatching the never Ford team in the country to the rearview mirror one of these teams will feel the elation of remaining unbeaten in league play all the other children it's the Montana Grizzlies hosting the Idaho State Bengals and it all starts right now on sports and this is how you arrive at a college football game in style especially if you are celebrating the 100th homecoming in the University of Montana history not too shabby Taylor I think we should try that the next time we're here in Missoula yeah yeah the Idaho State bengals arrived here hoping to pull off an upset coming off an impressive win last week over Portland State and for the nation's eighth rated team the Montana Grizzlies looking to put together another strong performance after they really manhandled them and fourth rated UC Davis last week in Northern California it's Idaho State against Montana there's Bengals head coach Rob fantasy a former assistant under Montana's head coach Bobby how both here at Montana and also at UNLV house here in Missoula for a second stint his ninth year overall the first go-round very successful with seven straight Big Sky Conference titles looking to get his team back into postseason play both of these clubs want to know to begin conference action as David Ellis gets ready to kick off for Idaho State the Bengals won the toss deferred so Montana will get the first crack at the ball offensively here in Washington Grizzlies stated belief flowers that deep to receive for the Grizzlies always a packed house here in Missoula right out of the gate excellent field position coming up for his Grizzlies offense and last week a huge week for dogs need the five touchdown passes Taylor including three in the third quarter of law at UC Davis where we know he's a great athlete where he's really grown and developed from a season ago is in his pure passing game sitting in the pocket and going through progressions not just hitting his first target beginning to his second third and even as out there Santa's offense averaging just over 37 points per game as they begin first in 10 News yardage as Marcus Knight was stacked up tackle Bubba Valera Varela getting in and really messing up that play as we take a look at some of our players to watch here this afternoon we'll get to that momentarily on a second down and long for the Grizzlies Gary Louis McGee in motion Sneed 9 open first down and more as dogs needs fines night coming out of the backfield as we now take a look at your players to watch him out with a quote samuel at kim big deep threat 30 reception so far this season another talented target samuri Toure and Luke Holloway have an outstanding season from his linebackers spot for this much-improved that goes defense Torres [Applause] first down when they're gonna do a lot of this this is just a now route if the defensive back is often coverage you just throw the ball to your receiver right away and now he's got a couple of yards to try and make him miss and get up feeling brings up second down and two speeds at a time wants to go deep port already has him overthrown don't sneak that over going oh we just could not make the connection well it shows his arm strength that ball was over 50 yards in the air and as big and long as taurah is just not quite long enough that was a missed opportunity early on but to see those plays from anybody on a second and short situation now third down and two night with first down yardage or Montana well that's what getting positive yards on first down does it allows you on a second short to take the shot no long third and short you can come back to a running game get a few yards and move the chains Gary green giving a star to one of the linebackers spots day he makes a stop for this Idaho State defense third best terms of points allowed the Big Sky 20-point to four contests stayed on the keeper a couple of yards had a terrific ballgame last week not only through the air we talked about the five touchdown passes but rush for 81 yards 349 yards of total offense and Bobby out makes no bones about if he believes his quarterback is the best in the Big Sky Conference second down stayed hit as he throws the the intended target gave salsa to sophomore end of billings Caleb brown wid the coverage that's gonna be key today for Idaho State getting to sneak well this was open and because there was pressure on on Dalton he wasn't able to step into it and lead his receiver and a nice play by Caleb brown couple years ago he got beat for a couple touchdowns at that DP spot so this one means a lot to him today and that's going to boost his confidence early on a third down Montana has converted on 52% but it's third down attempts this season Marcus night Marcus man with a strong game last week 91 yards on the ground touchdown couple of receptions leading rusher for this Montana team in his first season with the program and with that the punt team will be coming on Adam Wilson who was simply outstanding last week at UC Davis so much so he was named the FCS Special Teams Player of the Week the former rugby player at the University of Arizona a reverse rotation on the punt Michael Dean that deters he he gets out of the way of all these folks the FCS special teams player the Bates three weeks in a row if he keeps that up excellent execution by Wilson the coverage outstanding and the first possession for Matt struck in the side of host state offense will be [Applause] at their own two-yard line concussion earlier this season for Matt's truck kept him out of nearly two full games but again when he plays he gets dialed in he can do some things but a lot of pressure right here against a very good Montana defense when your PlayBook is very limited here especially on the road you got to be very conservative and doctor ty Flanagan just trying to get a little more breathing room as the leading rusher for the Bengals gets out near the five yard line before Dante Olson right there number 33 got in on that tackle I like that call and I like that Idaho State earning on defensive line we saw some pressure in the past game they're often silane getting good push they need to win the battle in the trenches today second down and seven Flanigan nice job trying to find even that amount of room bring up third down for Idaho State players to keep an eye on players to watch Mitch duller just 9 catches stop that let that please a very dangerous and threat time Flanagan we've already seen two carries from him in the coach's son Rodney how an outstanding job helping lead this Grizzlies defense from his safety position there David in four twenty two percent conversion rate this season on third down for the Bengals struck with time has a man has a first down across the 15 a yard line and that's Tanner Conner number 86 3225 junior out of Kent Washington to south of Seattle Kent Ridge High School leads this team of five touchdown catches this is just a simple out route Montana brought a blitz from Robbie honk at that safety positions so Montana's DBS were in man off pushing a little bit nice called a nice pickup by a toe mistake first of ten time puts it up for Guler well covered that time by Josh Sandra [Applause] with the number 13 or the Safety's here for the Grizz and a nice job in man-to-man coverage might have got that arm down a little bit before the bulk out there but tremendous coverage step for step with the deceiver and he's really had a great start to this season been physical on the run game nice job in the pass game and we saw it right there our first intent line brought to you by holding first Resort and Casino Michael Dean on the slant Michael Dean in the Montana territory Dean looking for a guy gets one finally forced a hit so this attack on even more yardage with a huge play for Idaho State you want to get confidence into your quarterback early on given some easy throw some easy reads this is just a simple slant route against man-to-man the run fake pulls the linebacker and safety gives him just enough sliver everywhere he did that [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] there's being fairly out of bounds and then it's Dante Olsen coming in to with the late hit and so first and goal unofficially pass play covering is 72 yards Kirsten go at the six Flanigan trying to get around the edge [Applause] Flanigan to get down near the two yard line as far as the run game goes for Idaho State they're not looking to gain 300 yards on the ground they're looking to gain enough that Montana has to respect it and that opens up that RPL game so those positive gains numerically it's not huge stats but it is to open up the passing game [Applause] lannigan the end zone they had as he approached that was Jason Lewis slide back he was having an outstanding season had a career-high 13 tackles last week third goal Flannigan again is he in touchdown Idaho state tie Flanagan finding the endzone for the first time of this season and the Bengals are on the board [Applause] we're talking to the coaches last night the idols they said they felt very confident they could come in to this Stadium and pull out the wind and we saw a good stop defensively and now offensively you get the big pass play and then a couple runs in a row physicality get low pad level at that line spot get into the end zone they're really quiet this crowd Kevin Ryan with the extra point seven to nothing Idaho State in Missoula what a spectacular scene pregame here at Washington a grizzly Stadium where the Idaho State Bengals at the early lead how impressive is that a 98-yard drive eight plays capped off by the one-yard touchdown run by that young man number 24 ty flat well you script up inning as a staff and it works exactly how you scripted it you're living the good life the leek flowers from his three yard line will take a big hit doubt stop it and flowers withering time out to the 29-yard he's already had one touchdown return this season 100 yards against spawn so he is a threat in those situations but we saw the punt from Montana earlier is you inside there on five in big games a lot of times it comes down to a special teams play a big return a blocked field goal so keep an eye on everybody watches offense defense but in big game special teams ends up being the deciding factor Jerry Louie McGee in motion to see a lot of that this afternoon Sneed outlet pass tonight breaks a tackle it's the first down as John by Marcus 961 194 sophomore San Juan Capistrano California transferred here from Citrus College but for Steve we talked about getting through his progression that was a very nice job at getting to his outlet in night and what a great outlet to have that offensive line did a nice job giving Snead the time he needed his numbers from last week down to UC Davis night again not much first down gain of a yard dairy and grain linebacker with a stop for the Bengals all the way also in the all the way having a terrific season number 43 three sacks to lead the team four tackles for loss and also top Sothis Bengals defense nine tackles last week against Portland State a career high so keep your eye on number 43 today second I stayed getting some he dives forward that'll bring up third down and two we made the point last week down if Davis Taylor he doesn't slide like a baseball player in the second base although some do go headfirst he lunges for every bit of the RTG kit Sneed on the keeper for the first step but we saw him last week get long runs because UC Davis was in man-to-man so the DBS were running with their backs to him guarding the receivers Idaho State saw that on film they talked about being in zone today where they can be looking at him at all times almost as a spy defender in that zone coverage [Music] [Applause] right up the little knick Cosmo true freshman out of Portland's Lincoln High School last week at 4 carries for 28 yards power runner is only going to get bigger mentioned a true freshman and a real his upset they just do an incredible job of finding guys like that that maybe aren't the most high-profile recruits but they just come in here and make a name for himself and the fanbase loves them Jerry relieve McGee unable to handle that pass coming up you know it started raining in pregame and and even though it's not pouring down really heavy it's just enough to make that ball a little bit more slick for a quarterback throwing it and a receiver catching it you can see it with that shot there with the lights making it very obvious not ideal conditions right now here in Missoula Sneed let's come again when he took a lick from Holloway that time fourth down coming up nice defensive call by defensive coordinator Roger Cooper yeah he is one of the defensive coordinators around the country his name is being talked about a lot schematically he does a nice job of getting deed linemen to account for two offense alignment which frees up linebackers in the run game to make tackles and in the past game to put pressure on a quarterback will sit on for his second punt Michael Dean standing at his own 10 yard line to receive [Music] too much leg that time from the Wilson as the bangles will get the ball first down at 10:00 at their own 20 looking to build on their early seven-point advantage with the OL 7:05 remaining in the first quarter Idaho stayed leading number eight Montana seven and nothing very impressive opening drive to the Bengals that send it to our route sports studio Mike go bumpass give us your takeaways on that drive the number one to cover 98 yards great first drive here they set the run early that's what makes this play happen right here the first two plays will run plays now we worked the slant nice little play down though the rest is just all the bility here to get down the field late hit right there one to 33 he'll pay for that during film and here's his big boy football this get up to eight guys get a push bar Lymon nice six great job opening up the game with a beautiful drive by highest [Applause] with this second possession much better field position to start with at their own in 20 yard line Flanagan laughter there either he bounces off a couple of tackles and found something still on his feet wow that is really an inspiring run by Ty Flanagan for the rest of that Bengals offense not to give up well this is what the coaching staff last night talked about with him they said he just does not go down on first contact he is always driving in his legs trying to get extra yards second in two Michael Dean and Dean with they mark him just short of the 30 or past the 30 for the first dad it is a first down getting back to Flanagan on that initial Drive it was early Flanagan as they tried to get a little bit of room starting at their own - you dog line and that big pass play men flying again at the end so it's gonna play a critical role throughout this game first and ten at the 31 four-man rush and struck breaks one tackle as O'Connell nearly came up with his fourth sack on the season we did that near the line of scrimmage when struck needs to learn to get down he ends up taking a big shot at the end but O'Connell had his coming out party last week against UC Davis not able to bring him down but slows him down to allow pursuit to come and look at the shot at the end Donte Olson is able to deliver on struck it's a great point about taking hits for a young man you in concussion protocol earlier this season struck nice throw door with the catch breaks a tackle and has the first down Josh Sandra with the coverage for Montana welcome montana brings a blitz from their corner into the boundary which means everyone else is off coverage expecting it's going to be a quick throw but idaho state maps protected which allowed their receivers to get down on a 10 yard stop route and get another first down struck dean first down into Montana territory Robbie help with the tackle when we talk art vo it's a run pass option this was supposed to be handed off but struck noticed the linebacker blitzing from his outside spot and no one was left on the slot receiver Barry heads he played by strong after the 11 yard game to go her 14 more yards - Dean struck back - Dean he picks up eight yards Gavin Robertson with the coverage offensive coordinators are very habitual creatures if they do something that works you can they are going to keep coming back to that until the defense adjusts and makes changes Flanagan big ole up the middle first down and more down near the Montana 25-yard line and boy you want to talk about early impressive rhythm and momentum this bingos offense really putting it all together and quickly back to the line on first down more Flannigan another bit cold up the middle and Flanagan down under the 17 yard line and boy is he when it came back to this again it worked the previous play when they're getting on the ball so fast Montana cannot stop out and they can't change the front and coverage during that was actually number 29 Nehemiah McFarland giving Flanagan a blow as McFarland carries against of 511 202 pound junior came into this game with just 20 yards rushing Flanagan now back on the field while offensive coordinator Mike Faragher played at Montana he's very familiar with this state and this program this one means a lot he is calling a heck of a game second down and nine this is Flanagan clearly they like something Taylor in terms of the matchups right up front right down the gut of that Montana defense so everyone talks about their passing game and they really space you out they have three or four receivers that gaps between their guard center and tacos than the average team which means defenses have to find a way to plug those gaps and there's a lot of running wings for a rainbow there Danone a from the 15 [Applause] referee today Jim Crowley [Applause] from vineyards to snowmobiles from construction projects to managing employee benefit Spain West Insurance is more than just home and auto insurance to find an agent who can customize insurance just for you there's a pain West con / routes so 13a becomes third and 13 Idaho State today two for two on third down conversions but a long one here we'll swing it out to Flanagan well defended at that time by Jace Lewis number 34 right there on the stop that down in distance on this part of the field you know you're in field goal range don't do anything silly don't fumble don't throw an interception get some yardage give your kicker a very legitimate chance to make a field goal and this becomes a two possession in the first quarter for ISU if this goes through I don't think anyone saw this coming heaven ride the putter also the field goal kicker three for three this season along of 42 and he connects from 35 yards as the Bengals extend their lead here in Missoula to tendinitis both resulting in points and attend nothing lead for Idaho's stayed here in Missoula against number 8 Montana we want to go to our root sports studio reconnect with Michael bumpass and Michael here impressions on the effectiveness of Idaho State's run-pass option today I'm loving the RPO and it's only working because one you got a run game going into you could never be wrong with a RPO you're gonna read a linebacker e if he bites down on the run you throw the ball if he stays off recovers you hand the ball off so I love the RPO I wish it was around more when I was playing make flowers with Elaine and flowers with a nice return across the 35 yard line equally impressed with the RPO today that we've seen from the bengals yeah I'm like like boom said it doesn't exist if you don't establish a run game if you're one-dimensional there is the R and the P R run Ampex so you have to be able to establish the run which they have doesn't have to be big 15 20 yard runs you just get a few yards it's gonna make that passing game effective the other thing is look for struck to hold the ball and run every once in a while - and the rain getting heavier here at Washington Grizzlies Stadium is dogs need and the Grizzlies offense out on the field for the third time and breaking down and going down there's don't use Sneed Kai Noah Fujiyama with the tackle look at that rain falling here in Missoula the heat being applied against dogs see we've raved and rightfully so about the Bengals offense his defense has been terrific so far today and they're playing very fast very physical and very disciplined speed it's a nice block to get around the edge and out near the first down before Kayla and forced him out no break up third and short well this is the the problem he presents to a defense is not only can he hand the ball off not only can he fake handoff pull it and throw to his receivers but he can also then tuck and run and he has the speed of a running back so as a defensive coordinator that presents a lot of problems a cam with that nice block on the air - gates need extra room to work with on 3rd and one night will be closed speedy marked just short TJ Toki aye tackle defensive tackle on the stop we call away also in on or that short and the punt team coming on this is where for a defense the coaches yelling hey they punted good but look out for the fake the last thing we want to do is give up a run for a first down end over end in Detroit sports studio Angie Mentink guys thanks so much wondering where you are rooting on your team use the hashtag where I represented by pain at West Insurance Mike sends this one in the Advanced Technology Group it's a tailgate party behave yourselves then we've got this one from Christine time for gurus win no cruise hashtag up with Montana keep those photos coming and use that hashtag a reminder though when you use that hashtag it does give us permission to use your phone on the air guys dance thanks so much that offensive possession for Idaho state boy terrific catch especially with the wet conditions as Tanner Conner brought it in I tell you what Taylor Matt struck having himself a day eight of nine through the air already over a hundred yards as that puts a wrap on play here in the first quarter a very impressive opening quarter for the bengals of idaho state they lead the nation's number 18 tended up [Music] second quarter action about to begin with Idaho State leading here in Missoula over Montana 10 to nothing don't miss Big Sky Conference football this fall here on route sports presented by your local Ford dealer catch all the action next Saturday 2:00 p.m. mountain 1 p.m. Pacific as the Northern Colorado Bears take on number 22 each turn Washington and Cheney for a full broadcast schedule visit root sports dot-com first in ten I dunno state impressive way on both sides to the ball so far today looking for an upset and a when Ariane Mozilla's Flanagan picks up a couple Jase Lewis with the tackles take a look at the tire Rama road to success Mitch color who in previous seasons had his brother Tanner throwing him to football former first-round pick of the Philadelphia Floyd's pitched in the minors for four seasons and you know the great offensive players in Idaho State football history [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] why pass if you're able to run the ball this effectively and it really wasn't something that was so open he didn't get touched 30 yards until he was down field that was just great individual effort the spin move the balance and then the speed to turn it on right at the end and get to the house look at ty Flanagan with our Toyota Supra mo breaking a tackle from Ravi AB got a nice block in he was on his way head coach rod fantasy the former Montana assistant roughing it in this offense firing on all cylinders here this afternoon the difference of the week makes in college football and in the Big Sky Conference study we talked about it last week comparative in this conference there are no off weeks you have to bring your hardhat and your lunch pail to work every day in this conference or else these kind of situations happen and it Ryan on for the extra point 17 to nothing here Idaho State take the 7th in the Big Sky this season they're about ready to think about knocking off number eight in Missoula three positions resulting in 17 points to tie Flanagan touchdowns and the bangles of Idaho State have shot over 26,000 fans here in Missoula leading number 8 Montana's 17 to nothing puck we go back to the root sports studio and Michael bumpass rejoining a 71 yard scoring run Ty Flanagan it was terrific stuff Michael it was a nice little zone option 3 you see the quarterback eyeing that outside defender if he bites he takes me he doesn't bite he hands the ball off the rest here is just ability I love it this is not how Montana drew up homecoming I guarantee you that don't talk about being a team on the road playing an opponent that's in the top 10 in the country what does that mindset like when you come in early on there's a lot of pressure especially at the University of Montana where like you said in pregame Taylor everyone shows up it's sold out and you kind of come in with a chip on your shoulder no one expects you to win so it's you against the world and that can kind of unify a group and I think that's what's happened in here well I kickoff going out of bounds second time that has taken place at giving Montana's a very good field position to begin a drive I thought what today what has taken place on the ground interesting last week UC Davis rushed for a total of 60 yards against this Montana defense so far today the Bengals on the ground have gone over a hundred back to well over a hundred 116 yards rushing so they are clicking on both sides of the ball at an extremely efficient level and bump talked about the camaraderie of unifying a team on the road when you get a lead like this it also quiets the crowd which is a huge advantage for Montana when they play at home now let's flip go to the opposite side for Dalton Sneed in Montana this is where his veteran leadership has to come in they got to keep their composure and just go put a drive together you can't go get a 17-point touchdown you can just go down get a field goal get a touchdown get points on the board and get some momentum going all right so the kick dog went out of bounds now would usually result in the ball at the unsportsmanlike conduct that may have been a result of the penalty after the 71 yard scoring play that kickoff also going out about [Applause] [Music] [Applause] okay well there's a whole lot of guys with confidence on Idaho State right now that might not be one of them I think he's in his own head right now and we see it with kickers when they're missing extra points and field goals you know they do it all the time I'll practice on leg kicking all the time and then they get out there and it's a little bit different and if it doesn't go your way you start changing things that weren't broken and you don't fix the things that were so we'll try it again with David Alice to kick-off for the Bengals son trying to break through a heavy cloud cover here in Missoula gates ulcer back deep to receive [Applause] Bauer's at his goal line earlier this season a 100 returned for a touchdown not as far but very productive out across the 30-yard line well it shows you the confidence Bobby Hawks how has in his return unit instead of accepting the starting field position they kept making Idaho State re kick for this exact reason because at any point flowers can break one and he's gone that can a Gary with the tackle will remain on the field one of the safeties for this Bengals defense that so far has pitched shutout [Applause] night out to the 35 it was interesting in a little bit of a tug of war if you will on that exchange between Sneed and night that is the furthest thing in the rvo because of quarterbacks eyes are at a linebacker he's not looking into the stomach of the running back he's reading that linebacker so sometimes that mesh point is off Slade has moly flowers or is that leak in Samuel akin with the catch they were Bradley with the coverage will they get the run going and now they get the pass going and akin is someone they want to get involved we saw last week him break runs out to the catch and once they get going they get on the ball and it is going fast Thursday our dance floor and night after the nice pickup by I cam on the passport nice shot by the big guys up front you get that one-on-one matchup with a linebacker or a safety and Montana is going to like their chances with night on any opponent one on one [Applause] every case for night on that previous play if the defense can't slow you down the chain crew does that's maybe a little bit of a break for Idaho State to catch their breath here Dom Snead through the air four of nine 457 yards it's also the leading rusher with 20 yards on five carries overthrows the intended receiver Toure we did pocket to work from that time second down and ten coming up total yardage for Montana so far 97 yards idaho state 246 including two plays covering his 71 yards one through the air another on the ground for a touchdown [Applause] yeah nice crab breaks a tackle down near to by the market at the 26 of Idaho state dairy green with a stun gun plate they go that Jerry Louise in motion and pulls the defense that way and then they come with the stopper out right in the middle to a Kim get him a nice easy completion and move the chains again 11-yard gain first down Smithtown a time find an open receiver fires toward the end zone broken up right at the last moment by Christian McFarland flag on the play out near the 24 yard line just a great job by the Idaho State defender staying home and being disciplined Montana went that boot roll out looking to throw back to a Kim or [Applause] TJ toki i defensive tackle touré who knows he's got a quarterback that's scrambling nice break on the ball by mcFarland and then here's the penalty Taylor we see sneaks rolling now he's he's about to throw this and you see just the hands to the face so for Idaho State very good coverage that was a play they get a stop but shoot themselves in the foot and Montana needs to take advantage of this first and ten at the 13 [Applause] Sneed going for the endzone kind of back shoulder the world targeting Ettore not on the same page second down it's gonna be hard to throw against idle state right now they're in a three four which means three down linemen four linebackers and then they have four guys in the secondary so there's always going to be a defender over the top and underneath like you saw right there so the back shoulder really isn't there the over-the-shoulder in the back of the endzone isn't there they're gonna have to establish that run game [Applause] we begin motion [Applause] Snead down there the five-yard line has a cab Samuel okay dragging a couple of defenders inside the fire that will bring up third and short the chem might be the best receiver in the conference of getting yards after contact you saw the big touchdown last week against UC Davis here he's just carrying three or four defenders what an answer for Montana a year ago this was a team who might have and two years ago might have panicked down 17 nothing started trying to force things and then it end up getting away from him here they regroup on the sidelines offensively Dalton sneak the leader gets with his line gets with his receivers and running backs and says let's go put us a stain drive together get in the end zone and get right back in this game and they did just that Brandon Purdy on for the extra point through the smoke from the cannon 17 to 7 as the Grizzlies get on the board Marcus knight with his sixth rushing touchdown of the season 4:21 marques night's touchdown run Montana or trailing Idaho State 17 to 7 impressive drive Taylor 9 plays 68 yards well Idaho State is not going to give up the deep pass at least early on so Montana saying ok we'll take those little 10-yard stop routes we'll take those slants and then we'll get the run game going and once they get first downs they get right back on the ball it's a tempo thing and that's what we saw in the touchdown run right there and now you look at this here right on the edge watch right here at this right tackle spot he's gonna come down and he's gonna block and then look 2nd level he doesn't talk to get touch the second level guy but he's in position and you see right there blocking down looking at the second level and Knight does a nice job of cutting back that side says hey if all the washes going down I'm going outside of it and goes untouched into the end zone Marcus night's scam so far today seven carries 19 yards as sixth touchdown this season [Applause] it's funny let's see what Matt's truck and his offense can do to respond to the first touchdown but on the board today by Montana's struck avid himself an afternoon eight of nine 100 yards quarterback rating is to ten point two that's not too shabby Taylor there's almost everything of those first down Strutt boy he is on target today he connects with Tanner Conner of 15 in a yard game to the 35 yard line Gavin Robertson with the coverage to the left to see the linebacker he's reading run he sees the linemen blocking run he sees the running back going that way so of course they're gonna tend to go that way which leaves an open window for that snap backside third catch today by chrono and often good room that time for Nehemiah McFarland made an impact in that opening quarter carrying the ball and relief of the Ty Flanagan our first and 10 line is brought you by northern quest Resort and Casino [Applause] gay MacFarlane picks up the first down [Applause] chase Lewis with a stop the junior out of Townsend Montana Jesse Simms also in on the stop off the defensive line over the number 34 third leading tackler defense on first down the protection for struck here comes though the delayed blitz by Robbie health and down dose truck where he is just fast and physical and when he gets an open lane to the QB he's gonna make him feel it worth X truck does a nice job of stepping up to avoid the initial outside rush just does not see how coming from that middle safety spot for the Grizzlies I'm able to get around the edge and coming up for Idaho State the few times item estate has been in a third and long they've gone to that stop router that comeback route the receiver goes about 14 yards stops in the quarterback has a timing throw let's see if they come back to that or maybe try a double move some sunshine finally on the field here Washington Grizzlies Stadium they're down in 14 they're down conversions today for Idaho State two of three four-man rush struck tons of time and grows behind the intended receiver is tied at Nate's Schubert [Applause] you feel a bit of a momentum shift with the Montana offense on the previous possession finding the end zone and looks like that defense Taylor fed off that a little bit well that's the look of a coach that has a lead but his worried he knows that Lee he knows they're gonna have to score more points than 17 to walk out of this stadium with a win and every drive matters depart journey who career punt return touchdowns standing at his own 17 yard line [Applause] take say Montana and she takes him by the Montana bounce off the Idaho State punts we'll see if Dalton Snead and Miss Grizzlies offense can follow up on that very nice drive they had the last time out nine plays 68 yards and the night touchdown well last weekend we were following this Montana team down in California and all the buzz was about the snow hitting the state and I said wait are we still late September but there are some of the snow totals that hit Montana last weekend but nothing to see here in Missoula today except the rain an occasional sunburn a completion to the tide and Bryson Deming really good job defensively by Luke Holloway when again I know state they're just playing a soft zone coverage they're not going to go much man today if any they're gonna be in zone it allows them to keep everything in front of them and also everyone to keep an eye on Dalton Sneed so if he does tuck and run there's guys to come up and wrap them up and I catch this season for dinner second Alan a [Applause] he'd look into his left from the snap as a can Samuel account for three extra yards to the Idaho State 47 yard lines as a Kim signals first down 27 yard pickup [Applause] announcer nice job that was a smash concept they read the linebacker Trujillo who jumped that out which led a chem open on the corner I got to a can first Andy the Arnage a gain of 11 and Sneed and the cam finding a rhythm he's just dropping back he's seen those linebackers flow outside with the running backs and a Ken one-on-one against the DP across the middle he said he likes his chances tonight nothing doing that time Holloway is there also Cody graves the leading tackler on this Idaho State defense 35 tackles from his linebacker spot well these linebackers really flow around but it's the D lineman that are swallowing up two offensive linemen and allowing the linebackers to scrape into those holes and make tackles second down Sneed over the middle has a tie then big gain as he connects bricen dimming temp catch this season second on this drive but Gary with the stop for an arrow state but this is where you've seen the most growth and Altis need in the passing game dropping back and feeling comfortable to anticipate guys being open in Windows not waiting until they're in the window and it's too late gain of 22 puts Montana into the EQC red zone Jerry Louie lucky and he will lose a yard we'll play by that Bengals defense that is a guy you always have to be aware of number 16 littles defense but that is a guy you always have to be aware of number 16 Gerry Louie McGee talking to Cooper the defensive coordinator for Idaho State last night there they have calls their entire secondary where Joey Gerry Louie McGee is at all times they are aware at all times and they have packages for him second and 11 Smith toward the end zone I think that was grays getting a hand on it otherwise a cam would have caught a touchdown pass he was wide wide open when it's a nice job if you if you're not covering a guy man you're in zone you're reading the quarterbacks eyes you have a zone area and the nice job vertically to get up out that down and turn and let the crowd know yeah the senior from Napa says not this time Barry Dikembe Mutombo third and 11 [Applause] blitz coming Sneed to the end zone and he will get two flags on that play can be pass interference against Anthony Rick's of Idaho state but this was an out and up and Don Sneed did a good job of identifying blitz and just giving his receiver a chance [Applause] see the outlook now the DB can face guard but he cannot contact before the ball got that he was in pretty good position but just didn't get his head turned around to see the ball and make a play on it makes contact in Montana gets a big first down if he had just turned back here's a terrific position to defend that bass coaches teach you to keep contact with your hand on the hip of the receiver get your head around and he didn't do it though first and goal at the two second of the game where you see coach Tennessee was worried on the sidelines when they got stopped last series because he knows Montana's offense is very potent and can score in a hurry and again we see when they get inside that 5-yard line night is going to be the guy they give the heavy load to seventh rushing touchdown on the season for Marcus night [Applause] Purdy's extra point 14 unanswered points for Montana and the Bengals lead is down to three here at Mizzou welcome back everybody Angie Mentink here along with Michael bumpass our college football analysts and all of a sudden it's a three-point game how has Montana been able to get back into this one I really think they just established their tempo and what I really like about this offices they give that bunch formation which brings everyone type and then they disperse and I think sneak knows what he's looking at now initially I don't know what was going on maybe it was rushing things a bit but I don't States playing the soft zone big ups to the offensive coordinator for picking out which place that get these guys in these sauce about in the zone you could be any zone with Sun Wells combination I think they figured it out so far well sometimes seen especially with something like homecoming you get whipped into this lather and all the sudden you need to settle down let the game slow down and it seems that's what's happening with Montana all right let's get you back now to Tommy Taylor gentlemen Angie Michael thanks so much back-to-back drives resulting in touchdown survived now we'll see how Matt's truck in the Bengals offense can respond they've built 17 to nothing lead in this contest 268 yards of total offense for Idaho State with Montana now kicking it into gear they're up to 184 what teams are a reflection of their head coach Montana you've seen the grit and result get him beat on 17 nothing but that is a direct reflection of headcount was down from the 25 [Applause] right up the middle is they continue to attack that defensive interior for Montana when now the linebackers of the second level they're pausing they're hesitating because there's been so much of the fake run and then throwing slants in behind them that that little hesitation allows linemen to get to the second level and make a block three nowhere to go [Applause] while the safeties attended Robert City junior out of Robert Washington Gavin is a big physical safety six-one 210 pounds [Applause] future Tomatina in the run game and they stay too third down is he a burden three so the offense looks over and gets a check but now the defense's look over and get a check they used to just stand there but now they make an adjustment as well [Applause] likely short of the first down the tended target time in Austin Campbell so again the Grizzlies defense rising to the occasion but they're really trying to confuse struck in are we blitzing are we not as that zone is a man that ended up being man with Dante Olson dropping into that mid-level area to stop slants and stop routes who was right in position forced a low throw receivers fits hideous hits his hands he's got to come up with it especially on the road on a big third down [Applause] the punt [Applause] the edge gets a nice ball gets another one an example of why they refer to him here as mr. electricity Jerry and Louie and McGee the very nice returned terrific field position for the Montana offense well you just never know what way he's going it could be intended to be a punt return left and he just cuts back goes to the right and I'll tell you what I think half of the people in the stands pay admission just to watch him with the ball in his hands [Applause] officials timeout for an injured player it's it's not often when the punter comes in for the late head not really much of one but I can see why the flag flew but you cannot have those types of penalties adding to Montana's momentum and that for a head coach knowing the magnitude of this game to have your punter do that has got to be just the most frustrating thing in the world and what a change we've seen from first quarter to second quarter it's really been the tale of two quarters in this game let's give credit to coach fantasy though he came in with the game plan offensively and defensively they shot out of the gates now let's see if he can get these guys to just relax start playing the way they did in that first quarter and hold this Montana offense who scored twice the last two possessions manager grizzly on the field would that let's set it to our root sports studio and Angie thanks so much tailgates they come in all forms you can be out there and the cool trying to stay warm or you could also be tailgating from your comfy couch Gary sends this one and using a hash tag where I root presented by pain West Insurance right there short sleeves shorts tailgating route and on the Grizzlies a lot a grizzly fans checking in we've got this one from Luke from South Dakota take down those Bengals day is what they're asking for and finally we have this little wee one what a cutie Christopher checked in from Glendive Montana use that hashtag where I routes presented by West insurance and we'll try to get him on and we've got this one as well Co where is all right mango fans we need you to start checking in here this is all very lopsided then again Montana's uncommon people are excited about it all right Tom Kaylor back to you khadeem Hempel was the or is the injured grizzly a redshirt senior out of Chicago if as you can see favoring the left leg they were looking closely in that knee area so let you know if we get any additional information on the severity of that meanwhile first down in ten terrific field position as night breaks one tackle but not the second by Cody graves terrific job by number 25 [Applause] Lajo state when you see a down block you got to step down because somebody is coming to kick out against you nice job by O'Shea Trujillo he didn't make the tackle but he came down and forced a running back to bounce it outside and allowed pursuit to come and make the top two yard loss second down and 12 night emotion man rush Snape had learned a lot in the world summit push down here comes a flag and they'll be tagging on 15 more yards for a late hit [Applause] so the linebacker number 52 Darian green was supposed to be in that zone keeping his eyes on Dalton if he ran but he ended up turning and running with the receiver no one was home and Dalton gets a big run and they're gonna tack on yards late hit defense [Applause] [Music] so he's looking to the left that's that's a good job in coverage the problem is if you're doing such a good job in coverage that means usually there's no one home for a quarterback to take off and and run and once he goes down as a defensive player you just gotta pull up he saw green though make it very clear he was not trying to hit state he brought his hands back and away making his case but it didn't work as Montana is now into the EQC red zone on first down blitz coming Sneed in trouble has to dump it off he's claiming he had a receiver he was throwing to Idaho State claiming that's a grounding play no flag well if the quarterback is outside of the pocket he can throw it away as long as gifts pass the line of scrimmage but if you're in the tackle to tackle box somebody has to be around now right there number 21 Knight is in your screen he didn't see him he was trying to throw it away but very fortunate Knight was standing right in front of them where the referees could see we don't have to jump 15 to 16 feet to haul that one in second and 10 Sneed goes tonight an outlet pass with the tackle mmm-hmm keep talking about it but for Idaho State they just don't want to give up the homerun shop they're saying if you're disciplined enough to nickel-and-dime us up the field with slants bubble routes tunnel screens we'll give those to you but we just can't give up that big 50 60 yard touchdown pass and early on they've done a good job third and ten Montana's offense today slow start they have heated Snead maybe a bit of a deflection there as a cam was the intended receiver Holloway may have got a finger on it we'll see if we can pick that up this is what you call a timed post a CEM it's a cover three so there's a safety in the middle and a corner outside taking deep thirds which means there's a big bubble right in between them but you just got to get it over the linebacker he did that that's a missed opportunity here but like that pass cleanly arrived to Samuel a cam I'm sure would tell you should have called that one in 35 yard field goal attempt Brandon Purdy is good and after Idaho stayed open this game with 17 straight points Montana has now responded with 17 straight of its own and we are tied at 17 just inside three minutes remaining and what has been he rather whiplashes that's how you've been a word but I just made it up here in the first half back-and-forth momentum swing significant ones here in Missoula North Dakota state top-grade a team at FCS football knocking off the Illinois State a top 10 team 37 to 3 going on the road to get that done the Bison rather impressive coming up later Big Sky number 4 Weber State and Moscow to take on I know Montana state graded 6 innovation down in California to face Cal Poly is the Bobcats seek a fifth straight win certainly a resurgence Big Sky style here in the state of Montana were those two teams Montana Montana state ranked and the topic it almost doesn't feel quite the same in this conference when they aren't at these levels it just makes it more exciting because the teams are playing them play harder there's more on the line and it really sets up a special brawl of the wild at the end of the season if both can keep maintain wins [Applause] drive will start for Idaho State at the 25-yard line and for an offense that began this game in a really nice rhythm high execution now they've got called the last couple of possessions I think they got to get back to that run game we keep looking at the past game and yes they have very talented receivers but it's been the running game the long runs by Flannigan the physical run by Flannigan that opened up the past an attack 12 carries 100 yards let's McFarland Nehemiah mcFarland but again you see Robbie help come down from that safety spot even though he's starting at 12 15 yards downfield he's cool the lineman and run he has the run assignment at that second level so he gets a lot of attackers throughout a game from the same page with an open receiver in Tanner Conner 30 long coming up 8 yards needed for the first down on third downs today Idaho State 2 of 5 [Music] [Applause] - freshmen for Idaho State so look for the running back here not running some kind of screen to help chip on that edge Russia Strutt has an open receiver in Guler but couldn't put it on in the mark and the pun team comes on for Idaho State that was the first series was struck we really saw him show some nurse early on he was gettin completions but they were pretty quick completions they were slants five-yard hitches once he's had to start dropping back and throwing a little bit deeper across the mid or outside we saw him struggle - pod Jerry and Louie McGee's standing at his 32 yard line to receive that is shank toffee foot and when Idaho State really needed a big punch with Montana's offense rolling it's just the opposite upcoming games for the Montana Grizzlies by next week and then back at it on the road taking on Sacramento State we'll be back in Missoula for that game on the 26th against Eastern Washington and on the road to Portland State home against Idaho that could be a very critical game November 16th here against Weber State we'll be back to that one as well and then of course it will wrap up in Bozeman with the brawl of the wild against Montana State who knows what will be on the line besides the pride for that one need to talk going to two defenders have broken up in the end zone well defended torii the intended receiver McFarland and Rick's right there for the Bengals well this is as good as it gets in coverage you see he's in a bail technique as a DB which means you're off you open up your hips and you're turning and ready to run with the receiver and then a nice job by McFarland at the safety position to be in the middle get his hand up where it either hits the ball or it distracts the receivers eyes second and ten at the Idaho State 46 the first good coverage on that play just better execution by Snead and account that was big time by Snead he was going to initially throw it right away to a Kim on the slant but there was a linebacker right there so he he pulled it back in and then threw it in that second window that is growth and maturity at the quarterback position by Snead six catches for a can for 87 yards speed quickly out to a cam [Applause] modest gain on the play Anthony Rick's right there a Kim is a physical specimen watching him in the walk through yesterday in shirt and shorts that is a big physical receiver at six catches last week for 97 yards in a touchdown pick it up where he left off this week's need will one night trying to block for him first down to the Idaho State 25-yard now this was designed watch right from his running back spot see him lead blocking there that was designed he's there to go get on that linebacker and if he gets hat on hat there's no one there left to tackle Snape again first down he does a terrific job when he gets wrapped up just to keep keep the movement going tries to spin in then extend and he's picking up two three four extra yards talked about how big and strong he is you see it right there DBS are looking at their coach saying what else can I do look at the EQ see red zone Smee lunging forward on first down Montana taking its first timeout in this opening hafiz need this was off I believe the previous running play four dogs need snow two plays ago he got up limping a bit then the throw to a Kim ran again and obviously he's feeling something and I think that's why Bobby hat decided to give him a little break see if he could regroup the best part about how though he didn't even look at him and go and say hey are you okay he just said hey you're fine as long as you can watch your plan we need you and Steve was on the same page these two have really developed a great relationship they respect one another and Bobby how swears that Snead is not only the next level player but maybe one of the best he's ever coached second down in 546 seconds remaining here in the first half false start offense number 77 penalty roses Mallory 6-3 350-pound jr. and this flag this offensive line has done a really good job you see the linebacker off the edge they'll do that they will flinch to act like they're coming in the linemen see that movement move and end up getting the full story second and ten Sneed takes a hit around the five gets down three will be just shy of the first down brought down by dairy and green when there are plenty of time yet there's over 30 seconds getting us up getting in get the right call that you want you know you have a couple plays here so you're good [Applause] [Music] it'll be a first down for Montana first and goal timeout taken with 17 as seconds remaining one timeout remaining for Montana Marcus Knight was looking for his third touchdown in this opening half [Applause] the 2019 Idaho State homecoming game is next weekend your Bengals will host the University of the North Dakota on October 12th kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. but be sure to show up early for the all the family fun for all the family funded activities at the bingo fest before the game you get your homecoming tickets now at Holt arena online in ISU Bengals of dot-com or by calling 208 282 fans that's two ways to 82f a 10 yes first a goal and 10 the lights - - and confuse the defense yep this forces the defense to be communicating and now Montana can run a play it's me [Applause] so he scored his first two touchdowns inside the tackle box just right in those eight gaps so idaho state says okay that's what we need to expect coming at us and they end up bouncing it outside very good design and play call by offensive coordinator Tim Rosenbaum third rushing touchdown for Marcus Knight in this opening half Montana with its first leading in the game perdy on for the extra point with 13 seconds remaining in the first half 24:17 Montana with those 24 straight unanswered points well they went that shift in formation and so the Idaho State defenders are just trying to get lined up and now they quick snap it bounce it outside no one's home easy touch them [Music] Bobby how happy with the play call from his offensive coordinator Tim Rosen bah last Grizzlies running back to rush for three touchdowns in a game Marcus Knight earlier this season against North Alabama one day you see Justin green the running back coach and recruiting coordinator was a phenomenal player here in his own right just a great job of recruiting running backs developing them but let's talk about the line anytime receivers and quarterbacks and running backs are putting up big numbers it's the line up front and these guys have a name for their unit it's dolla DOL a dominant offensive lineman attitude and they were very proud of that yesterday talking to the group and that's a fun thing because it's a way for them to bond and take a lot of pride in what they're doing Marcus night eight touchdowns now on the season with the three today interesting be a fly on the wall in that Idaho State locker room coming up at half-time Rock fantasy I mean far from all bad here in the first half you jump out to the 17 to nothing leave that then watch Montana's storm back with the 24 unanswered points I would think the message will be mostly positive let's get back to what we were doing well if you came in to the game and you said hey at halftime you'd only be down 24:17 he'd have been good with that but if you said you'd be up 17 nothing and then go into halftime down 24 nothing that's a different story but I think that's his message hey fellas if we do what we're capable of we keep we get a 17 point lead but if we blow assignments they're gonna make us pay Idaho State won the coin toss deferred so they will get the ball on the start the third quarter Bobby had certainly very happy to see how his team responded to that early 17 point deficit now up 7 at the break as we send it to the root sports studio Angie mentok and Michael bumpy's of how to respond often times we talk about two halves of football this was two very different quarters Michael yeah Idaho State came out hot emotions were flying high and they'd hit him in the mouth but good football teams end up figuring it out and that's exactly what Montana did they figured it out and now we got a ball getting 24 unanswered points by Montana alright we'll see how this one is going to play out in the second half Marcus Knight I guess Montana on the board with this touchdown run the first of three for him in the first half in Montana as a 24 to 17 lead [Music] everybody Angie Mentink along with our college football analyst a former Washington State wide receiver Michael bumpers I thought I'm moving a little slow today you know I need some coffee I take my eyes off the game for just a brief moment I look up all the sudden I toast a it's up to nothing I look around to ask well what happened there it's 17 nothing I mean they came out of the gates on fire yeah they came out ready to go they was fun to watch and I see the underdog come out and smack him in the mouth so this how they did it here RPO action that outside linebacker suits around brother bliss we got a one-on-one with the safety hit some right in stride nice little slant the rest is all wills getting down the field big play and I seen the receiver out there trying to block Boris boys well receivers get your blocking game up late hit there here we go another RPO same kind of concept outside backer pinches down boom we see the space get the ball into the hands of your playmakers that's what happens there here another one here's a run read option quarterbacks looking at that outside defender he bites he takes it he does it he gives the ball now look at that push by that offensive line now this is all ability man I wish I could do that on some old haven't played in a while receivers get downfield escorts are running back into the end zone I love seeing Idaho State jump out early but things have changed here pretty quickly everything I just said about looking away and having the score change instantaneously same thing happen in the second quarter second I'm hungry no all right what's gonna happen here in the second half only time will tell and as we had to break it is time for where I would presented by pain at West Insurance a reminder that by using the hashtag you do give us permission to use your photo on the air keep sending them in [Music] welcome back we want to invite you to join the conversation for up-to-date game information and live interaction be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram check us out and stay connected we're at half time between I have States and Montana fans packed into Washington grizzly Stadium for homecoming so Michael they are under the assumption that Bobby Hawk is in there trying to figure out just how to keep this going in the second half yeah Montana just a simple football they got back to the running game Snead is leading them with their on his with his feet in the restaurants I believe he has 54 yards rushing and they're finding the soft spots in the zone Montana's offensive coordinator Tim Rosenbaum mile it offensive coordinator is getting it done finding the sauce boss he's getting into his playmakers it's as simple as that the better team is winning right now let's see if the young guys can come back and respond yeah up next we're gonna head back to Missoula after the first two quarters of this one it's impossible to guess what will happen in the final two quarters 17 points out of the games for the bangles 24 unanswered for the Grizzlies hi everybody Angie Mentink here and we are getting set for the second half between Idaho State and Montana the first half absolutely crazy also inspiring because it led our Tom Glasgow to make up a new word it's my understanding what was it whiplash ish a Newton and absolutely perfect in describing this first half well thank you Angie yeah I'll try to create a few more here in the second half but look it kind of was that right so you've got Idaho State coming out taylor 17 unanswered points very impressive maybe more impressive though the way Montana responded 24 unanswered of their own and now the seven-point lead as we take a look at our game summary brought to you by your local Ford dealer total yardage I used to be a wide gap now closer to 76 Idaho State Montana two of 47 red zone scores look at that for the Grizzlies four trips into the EQC red zone they scored on all four occasions a big reason why dogs need finding one Sammy a cam and he was outstanding in the first half well you want to make some adjustments and you want to get back in the game you get the ball into Kim's hands and they did eight catches over a hundred yards he at that sense remark in the first half and just a little bit of everything it wasn't any crazy scheme plays just slants owls right there a sale route just setting in that zone Dalton's need some of them were easy reads and completions right there he waited until the second window to throw the slant so quarterback receiver it's kind of a pilot copilot you've both got to be on the same page girls bad things are going to happen they really got on the same page in that second quarter Sneden the Montana offense it took a while to find a rhythm they found it found it in a very impressive way just the opposite for Idaho State they came out of the chutes playing terrific football then they seemed to get uncomfortable collectively and match struck the quarterback seemed to have lost his rhythm so if you're Tennessee and you're talking to Matt's truck at halftime what are you telling him well I think it's what you do for him I think you get back to the run game and I think you get back to giving him those easy quick reads and throws get his confidence going at one point he was 7 for 8 get back to that let his confidence let him settle into the game then start taking some shots downfield Bengals who will have the ball to open the second half we'll see if they come back with a response and cool down the red hot by 10 a Grizzlies a gorgeous shot of the Clark Fork here in Missoula [Music] [Applause] [Music] Idaho State returning to the field here at Washington grizzly Stadium a seven-point deficit because by Tana was able to dig itself out over in the early 17 to nothing bull and it was quarterback Dalton Snead playing a significant role started off a bit cool heated up as far as struck is concerned just the opposite red-hot to begin with he cooled off so we'll see what Matt's truck and this Bengals offense can come up with here in the third quarter I'm sure we'll see more Ty Flanagan why not 12 carries 105 yards two touchdowns a in the first half struck through the air 9 of 14 145 yards Michael Dean of leading the receiving corps four catches 94 yards they gotta start getting Mitch lower the ball and get him active in this game he only has one reception for 11 in the first half [Applause] first down at the 25 Flanagan good first down they carry a gain of 7 yards taking a look at our Montana Chevy dealers players to watch quiet first half for mention Guler just the one catch not the case for Flanagan and Robbie how to six tackles a sack and a pass defended very nice half for Robbie yeah Robbie is an absolute ball Jesus really fun to watch on the defensive side of the boat sneaking in three the type of situations you like to have as an offense as Flanagan gets the first down out to the 37 yard line before he was brought down by Dante Olson leading tackler on this Montana squad nice job up front by the Idaho State line hat on a hat get pushed into the Montana backfield and they get a nice big gain a first down and they needed that out the gates they did not want to have the three and out to start the third quarter [Applause] struck deflected off of one player nearly went into the arms of Tanner Connor as he tried to find Michael D Bobby Robby house made a dive at a potential interception there's Dean with the deflection yeah they just struck just missed him there that was open day it had success within the first quarter with that and that would have put Dean over the hundred yard mark he is right below it in that first half second of ten four-man rush swing pass out to McFarland report of the play like maybe a slight loss third and evil 11 coming in we suck no slouch on the tack of Woodinville high school motion he was a receiver big-time receiver now playing that safety nickel doctor position for Montana and they like him and think his future is very angles two of six on third down conversions in the first half facing his third in law so again you see Idaho State look to the sideline make adjustments Montana look to the sidelines make counter adjustments too much time or did Idaho State take a timeout to avoid the penalty before the flag timeout by the host state their first of be a 30-second timeout there you had to do it but you hate to do it with a seven-point ballgame we'll see if that comes into play late in this contest but you could see when Montana showed blitz that God instructs that a little bit that clock was winding down quickly so you see offense looks to the sidelines get to play defense look so side gets a play and you keep going back and forth you can overthink it so now what offensive coordinators are doing they're given two or three play calls on one play so that Dean doesn't have to look to the sidelines they can just check in to the best one crowd that's in the building making a lot of noise others still returning from tailgating just outside the stadium struck plenty of time has an open receiver he is really out of just missing wide open receivers he's giving ANSI feet in the pocket he's got a great pocket the line is doing a nice job look at this protection this is phenomenal but he's walking into his throw if you saw that he was walking into it and feeding to the left and he knew it right away wanted that one back he's got to regroup gather his composure and Trust his linemen and stamped all in the pocket way really important throws on third down nearly a block of that pun jerry liu mcgee fielding it inside his 20 he'll get a nice peel back block right there McGee hard down just beyond the 25-yard line sign excellent job on that return of avoiding a penalty on the block take a look right there just running in front of the player not coming from that blind blind side and going laying somebody out that's a safety rule in the FCS and FBS levels of college football well it's a really smart play because back in the day it would be what you'd call a d cleaner you peel back knock a guy his feet go up in the air who went celebrating now it's a penalty so a nice adjustment to know that put your hands up and still got the job done on the block first and ten Montana had its own 27 yard line Vargas night tackles for a loss Kody graves number 25 or right there for the bagels really impressive linebacker 6 1 to 15 seniors we take a look at our Montana Chevy dealers players to watch big first half for a camp Torrey just the one catch three tackles to solo for that man number 43 Luca Holloway 1 Holloway had a nice job of beating a lineman into a false start earlier and you don't get credited with that on the stat but it definitely impacted a drive second in 12 ball batted O'Shea Trujillo junior out of Seattle's Blanchette high school that brings up third and long facing the Grizzlies in the first half third down conversions they were four for a [Applause] most of the conversions they have were on third and intermediate or Shore town a lot sorry Taylor at first and tenth line is brought to you by northern quest Resort and Casino Louise McGee in motion need looking left getting some heat and down he goes thus set by the Bengals try to pick up the number and it was Anthony Parker number 93 a sophomore out of Reno this is just a four-man rush this was not a blitz if you're able to get pressure on a quarterback rushing for you're able to drop into coverage with seven and it's hard to find open lanes for the receivers and a nice job but just grabbing that foot grab that ankle grab the sock if you have to just hold him up make the tackle or allow pursuit to get him Adam Wilson on to punt Michael Dean back deep to receive fields of that is 35 trying to get around the edge no fly Dean's still on his feet and brought down at midfield and again some good examples there the potential for some penalties to wipe out that return but good discipline by the Idaho State punt return team now the Bengals gonna get another crack at it offensively down by seven here in Missoula treat opened in 1980 to eat a bootleg recording of a Led Zeppelin concert you'll find it here meet some items to spruce up your your kitchen you're gonna find it at Rock and Rudy's a kaleidoscope of items to be just about every taste there you go we stopped by Rock and Rudy's yesterday awesome place and by the way give a shout-out to notorious b.i.g one of the best barbecue spots I've had we were busy in town yesterday all right for midfield first and ten Idaho State struck going deep for Guler that's better results in pass interference and easy call that'll certainly be a nice start to this Drive force trucking company I love that call out the gate well here the car was Darien Nash I love the call you have great starting field position take a shot without your best receiver out there he threw it knowing this is either a touchdown or it's going to be a P I if you got one-on-one and you can get Yeller on the outside take him so the 15-yard penalty first and ten Tanna 35 yard line with the Bengals down by 7 struck through behind Dean but a terrific catch by Michael Dean 5 6 151 pound senior out of Oakland California it is so hard to be running full-speed and have to flip your hips around and catch up on your hands knowing you're gonna take a hit Flanagan it's the shoulder into a la dad a defender picks up the first down [Music] well they're getting to establishing the run and again it's not about getting 20-yard runs it's just get a few yards establish the run bring the defense down into the box and it's gonna open up the one-on-one matchups on the outside ty Flanagan 15 carries 120 yards two touchdowns today on first down Flanagan who saw that was stutter step patience saw the hole made his burst he was gonna bounce this outside saw the backer go right here he was gonna bounce outside saw the backer take a step outside and then cuts it up gets north/south and gets four yards second down with the left looking left on left looking for Carter and overthrows the intended receiver Justin Calhoun with the coverage so that was a Slugger which is a slant and go which is a great route against off coverage not so good against press man if you have press man just run a fade let your bigger more physical receiver just go get it by the host state to have said it on 3rd down conversions facing billions 7 that stopped route to Goa on the bottom of the screen going back toward Connors same area of the endzone flag and this may be defensive holding [Applause] Robbi Houck with a coverage Jim Crowley our referee one for help we talked about how good he is in run support from the safety spot this is an area he needs to continue to develop his man-to-man and especially against a receiver pass interference defense number 17 so they try and in disguise zone but it ends up being man and that's a mismatch when you see a safety on a receiver as a quarterback you got it you got to trust your receiver to win that that battle so in the EQ see your red zone those Idaho stayed with the first just outside the 10-yard line Flanagan know where to go he's stepped up and driven back Dante Olsen there to meet him we have not called Dante's name a whole lot today but he made his presence felt right here Flanagan said he's not so easy to break through an arm tuck but that's a little bit different of the beast done I'm facing there compared to a safety or a cornerback Dante Olson the top defensive players in FCS football last season finalist for the view Canada which goes to the top CSKA this season high 14 temples earlier at Oregon struck in Cheviot down he goes and that's Patrick O'Connell his first sack today had a team-high number four on the season so they they fainted like they were in man than they were Blitzen and then they drop off but O'Connell just comes off the edge and that's what happens it's not just confusing a quarterback it's confusing linemen when guys are coming up like they're coming through the A or B gap and then backing off the line has to take the inside most threat so usually you get guys coming free off the edge that is a hungry walk-on non-scholarship player in O'Connell is Flanagan goes up the middle Montana indicating the ball may have come out let's see so coaches talk about rap and rip you saw the Montana defenders ripping up in the air almost like playing a guitar they they're taught to to pull it up that ball came out we'll see you jumped on [Applause] and the officials agree they have had a need down fourth and goal and feel going thumbs on Watts right there Olsen ripping that and that is hard for a ball carrier when you have three guys holding on to you you're not able to hold on as tight to the ball so that extra defender can come and rip it out of your hands February third goal attempts and it's good Ryan two for two today connected earlier from 35 yards so the scoring streak for Montana steps but still up by four my name is Idaho state with a field goal to cut it to Montana's lead which is now at 420 420 as we go to the root sports studio Michael buffest sorry joining us a and Michael that wasn't necessarily a clean drive by the Bengals but some progress made on their partner yeah definitely wasn't clean but there was progress like you said I really like how they established the run and still took their shots they took advantage of a couple of passing appearances but that's what you have to do to maintain this Montana team keeps neat off the field as long as you can and make it a grinder and when you can take your shots and be explosive at the same time [Applause] Wow feel the it around is 20 work at all but a good open field tackle right there for Idaho State number four on the tackle not listed on their roster back to that last possession by Idaho State if struck can get on target more consistently you can see how effective they can be moving the football whether there were things there there was some meat left on the bone in that last Drive they could have easily been in the end zone missed a few passes and he needs to just calm down a little bit more and just play the game but like bumps that they got back to that run and it opened things up for me me Jerry we begin it open overthrown it's been a quiet day where Jerry Lewis Magee one catch 4-1 yard the motion allows you when no one goes in motion with you you know it's some type of zone and so when it's a zone you try and just get a high-low so you saw the three yard arrow route breaking out and then Jerry on a sail route above both linebackers jumped out Jerry was open missed opportunity second and ten taurine and that's first down yardage for Montana Caleb brown there Brown really didn't do a great job protecting that sideline big-time throw by Dalton mana hitch you want to throw outside so your receiver can turn and go there's pursuit coming from the inside that's a veteran throw very well executed by Dalton steam 17-yard gain on the play first down Gabe so sir there's a flag that seemed inevitable an attack on 15 more yards and already we've seen three I believe personal foul penalties against Idaho State this path alone personal foul horse-collar tackle defense Jose Trujillo and that could have potentially been a late hit to see there he got face mask and horse collar in the same plate could have had a late hit I wonder if at that point based on when the flag was thrown if he just released near the sidelines he may not have drawn that flag this could be a double pass so sir looking back to Sneed he did note the ball the turn so so Sneed knew that ball was hanging up in the air he almost went to block the DB to prevent him from intercepting it and then somehow still had the ability to go and try and catch it ladies and gentlemen that was our acrobatic I hope Cirque de Soleil is watching that he goes look at him he's going to block to prevent an interception and then gets his eyes up at the last minute and almost brings this in [Applause] air hits the turf second in ten Sneed dogs need after playing the role of receiver for one play finds a pretty good one in Samuel account I think Dalton would be a good receiver I like to come a little bit better at that position Dalton stay in your day job at QB but great throw and nice release by Kim that was man-to-man and he just got a clean release and once he gets a step on the DB it's over 25 yard touchdown pass pretty extra point is good so impressive response by the Montana offense after Idaho State put three on the board account with his first down a touchdown catch today and the Grizzlies lead by 11 [Music] hell the sun shining right now on the Montana Grizzlies 8th rated team in the country up 11 on visiting Idaho State let's send it to our root sports studio Michael bumpass impressive stuff right there dunks need to Samuel at Camp Michael yeah it was beautiful it was textbook what he did there was he's a taxes DB he gets his hand off from in Lee's space on the sideline a lot of times he seems gets pushed to that sideline and almost out of bounds but wait Bo Bice need there as well get ready with his first touchdown catch shot in the afternoon and he did a great job of swim technique but it was also a mistake defensively when you're in a too high safety look as a corner you cannot let the receiver get outside the safety just can't get over the top to help fair catch signal the ball will come out to the 25-yard line so here it is as a as a corner right here you just cannot get beat outside because this safety cannot get over the top to help you out so as he's watching right here he has got to keep outside they roll back to that two high safety look but he gets beat outside and it's just too wide for the safety to get there and help so a very good job by a Kim good read by Dalton but a mistake defensively by the ISU secondary first downs and that struck McFarland good carry out to the 31 yard line Nehemiah McFarland 511 200 to pound juniors really had a nice game today is ty Flanagan's back up seven eight carries 441 yards second and four start some heat coming from the backside again just missing the poor thing receivers when again he's off balance for as a quarterback you got a drop and even if you're not going on rhythm you chop your feet in if your linemen give you a pocket you just scroll through your progression he's tending to just fall off on this doors that's if someone's in his face when they're not third down on a very important Drive in this game for Idaho State the bingos two of eight on third down conversions circletine has Dean and the chains will move for Idaho State out to the 38 yard line Renee Olsen with a stop when a team goes a empty set like this five receivers as a defense if you go zone they're able to find windows if you're in man you get a matchup there there you have one of your best receivers man-to-man against Dante Olsen that linebacker that's an advantage for Idaho State even a 71 yard tension rod early in the game well Robbie hoax slipped and his safety spot if that ball was completed that's a touchdown there was nobody behind Robbie how he was dropping into his coverage fell to the turf oh there's your postcard today from Missoula with the rainbow in the background one of the most scenic settings in all of college football here at the Washington grizzly Stadium second and 10 again going behind dean and i'll tell you what there's one element of what's going on right now the accuracy being one but when you're throwing behind your receivers like that you're really exposing them to DVDs and linebackers who are looking to put a whip yeah and you're gonna get received we're starting to call for the backups name to the coach saying hey this guy is jeopardizing my as I'm extended with ribcages free for linebackers and safeties to come in TL down in ten crowd generating more noise here at Mizzou blitz picked up nicely struck trying to find a receiver and instead is limited to a two yard game usually when the offense picks up a blitz like that as well as they did someone's going to be open at that time the secondary is used to covering for about three to four seconds they know on a blitz they know they only usually have to cover for about 1.5 to 2 seconds so you're right when they blitz and don't get to the QB it's really tough for a defense but nice job in the secondary of staying glued to those receivers McGhee back at his own 20-yard line [Applause] we'll read to a fair catch inside the 20 root sports studio we reconnect with Angela this game has had big swings first by Idaho State then Montana it's kind of the same story with where I root presented by pain West Insurance first it was all the Montana fans now all of a sudden the Bengals fans checking in continue use that hashtag where I represented by pain West insurance will try to get your photos on the air Breanna also says let's go Idaho states we are with you and the Grizzlies still checking in though with their photos oh there we go Tammy three generations supporting the Grizz in Missoula Tom Taylor back to camp hunt free and at quarterback or is it still Sneed stall the speed indication it may be Humphrey coming off advance with Sneed dealing with an injury issue earlier in this game adults made remains [Music] [Applause] [Music] loss on the play of four yards second down in the 14 [Applause] [Music] [Applause] saucer in motion Sneed has a lot of time comes back to saucer can not follow it in so thirty fourteen coming up for the Grizzlies nice job up front and protection by the line and as a receiver you know with an athletic quarterback come back to the ball he's gonna be able to buy time and find you downfield but sometimes you get so caught up in trying to make sure you keep your feet inbounds that you lose track of the ball and offer you did a terrific job at that but couldn't haul it in night on third down conversions today for Montana facing this thirty fourteen 421 remaining in the third quarter Montana by eleven so he saw true true Gila glitz him from the right so he moved the back over to maps protect he coming dogs need delivered by Anthony Parker that'll bring the punt team on and here comes a late flight again the Idaho State linemen have been been John a little bit after sacks after hits and they might get penalized here after the play unsportsmanlike conduct [Applause] first that's a potential killer you just delivered a three-and-out your offense is going to get the ball you assume in pretty good field position and now you keep the drive alive well it's a delicate balance you've got your kids to be fired up and go and play hard but you also want them to play smart they're fine right there but then they end up dying at the end and get the penalty and give Montana the ball back that sneak took a big shot there at the end that's me they see the strength of that amount of tax breaks a couple of tackles at the 30 still on his feet and finally brought down at the Idaho State 26 yard line by Aaron Aguirre and that magnifies the devastating nature of that penalty you want to see teamwork watch Jerry Lee McGee here great job by Tori what's Jerry Lee McGee here he's five yards behind he's busting to get a field to get a block to spring to a for more yardage just a great team player Jerry Liu McGee is 40 yard game on first down buh-buh-buh-buh night Marcus Knights driving a dead the market down just shy of the ten yard line but another first down for the Grizzlies we've seen that on the mesh point a few times watch doctor watchdogs needs eyes he's not looking where he's handing it off his eyes are to the linebacker so the running back has to bring that in and sometimes the ball can be placed a little higher low we saw it was a little high on that play snow at the middle and of about three second down and seven that was a defense you're posed with a very difficult problem if you don't pack the box Montana is just gonna run it down your throat if you bring your Safety's in and linebackers in to help stop the run now you have to go one-on-one on the outside against Montana's big six three and six four receivers [Music] Osmo remains in as the run back stayed boy lots of time samuri Touareg but we saw what a CEM could do we've seen what Jerry LuAnn McGee could do that drive Samari said you know fellas i can ball to cop the simple hits route sprung it for an extra 15 20 yards and then a nice job of running around into the end zone realizing your quarterback had more time that he's keeping his eyes downfield and then staying in the back of the end zone and giving him an outlet to throw to second touchdown pass today by Dalton Sneed whose touchdown catch this afternoon for Toure the extra point is good an 18-point Montana league this is good coverage for the Idaho State secondary just need got through his entire progression he almost twice and then there was still no one else around him so this is good coverage just not very good pass rush and you see Sneed just delivers an absolute strike and we we've known he can do that he can run he can throw on the run we've seen him develop in his pure pocket passing abilities and if he can continue to play at this level Montana is going to be very hard to be like I don't want to harp on the young man but the panel TV unsportsmanlike penalty against Anthony Parker on a third down play that would have brought the punt team on for Montana he keeps the drive alive you see the result at the time of the penalty it's 31 20 you're idaho state you're going to get the football with a chance to score and make it a single possession game [Applause] now you're down 18 points what's deflating and it's also fatiguing because the defense you just played your tails off you're running off the field celebrating and now you got to go back on the field and try to stop them again and a good team like Montana is eventually going to make you pay scoring drive seven plays 81 yards two minutes 47 seconds [Applause] come out to the 25 mats trucks afternoon started off extremely promising it's seven of his first to eight passes now 12 of the 23 159 yards the Bengals have been outstanding on the ground today Ty Flanagan 130 yards is back up McFarland 41 more yards but now at least we maybe as much as you'd like because of the deficit and with 240 left on the clock here in the third quarter struck this time to date we've really seen him tried to tuck it away and try to advance for some significant yardage he picks up the aid before Nash vouche brings him death when this was a good decision nothing was there step up in the pocket keep your eyes down field and if no one comes to you get upfield get some yardage second and short second and medium you can still run the ball for first downs when it's second and long third and long you're very one-dimensional [Applause] struck Tara first down the mark will give him the first stab forced down by Jason Lewis you know this was an offense we talked about Mitch bowler his brother Tanner was a starting quarterback for four years here now an offensive GA on the staff so I know Tanner also helping in the development of struck giving him pointers and tips when he's coming to the sideline Tanner's up in the press box and help him with his development but needs to work on standing tall on the pocket on first down again whoa and behind it's going so with quarterbacks you call it pulling the string yanking the string you're throwing them pull it back instead of following through and you usually do that because you start hearing footwork you start feeling like someone's going to hit you when you take a lot of hits you do that he hasn't taken a lot of hits in the pocket but he's still pulling that string on his throws that struck six three to nine the central point organ began his college career Riverside Community College I find that time as he connects with Tanner Conner I'm not sure Conner was down as he spun down he got up I'm not sure if he was aware he might have been able to turn it up for a couple of more yards Dante Olson on this stop let's give credit to this offensive offensive line for Idaho State in pass protection they have done a nice job it's just been very good coverage in the back end by the Montana defense but a nice job there after two consecutive runs to keep his eyes downfield find an open receiving first down from the 48 strucker's changing to play what's coming we don't learn with a modest gain of four yards Louis the tackle just the second reception today for dollar [Music] I'm into this game meeting 56 yards for an all-time Idaho State receiving yardage record as some more work to do struck it looks for an escape route to the right as we come to the end of the third quarter Montana in control from 17 down to 18 up in Missoula [Music] getting ready for the final quarter of play here in Missoula Taylor Barton Tom Glasgow with you 24 points in the second quarter for the Grizz 14 more in the third quarter they lead by 18 Idaho State with the ball Taylor this is probably a must TD Drive for them yeah at this point it's a big third down probably gonna have to go for it on fourth down they got to get points and they got to get touchdown this field goals aren't gonna cut it I really impressive for Montana to start this game in a 17-point hole come all the way back 35 points wing is there now up by 18 and play was a breakdown that will bring about fourth down and it looks like the punt team is coming on for Idaho State but they're trying to get the ball into Mitch coolers hands they're saying hey we're not able to get into them downfield so let's try and get him on a wide receiver middle screen where linemen can get downfield and block but the Montana defense just read it nothing there plates shut down football these last couple quarters [Applause] chance to down this inside the five terrific job by the Bengals and Montana we'll start deep in its own territory the last drive for Montana really kept alive by a boneheaded play unsportsmanlike penalty on a third down so the drive stays alive and dogs neat and company kicked it into gear when they have so many weapons it was just a matter of time until Samara found his groove and speaking of groove right all day on the touchdown runs open field runs and then Dalton Sneed the ability to buy time but keep his eyes downfield and allow his receivers to get open for him it's made with a handoff not much doing that time ah slow the ball carrier why the host state faced this situation in the first quarter when you're inside your five and specifically on about the one or two yard line or closer your PlayBook condenses to about five or six runs and maybe a couple passes and you have to really be careful here drop him back in the pocket you you run the risk of getting a safety now turn over three games so far Idaho State really needs to come up with one that was close to that taking place instead it's a Montana first down now mark him down at the 28 yard line before Christian mcfarley made the stop O'Shea Trujillo could have had a walk into the end zone this is a cover three he has the flat that ball was thrown right through his hands he puts one hand up got his head around just a little too late you got a note on the goal line there they're gonna run that quick passing game slanting hitches and outs instead a 26 yard game here's night interesting day for the markets night is not generated a lot of yardage that was his 15th carry 39 yards but three touchdowns I'll take him on my fantasy team I'm sure a lot of people would oh she ate your heel with a stop second down and six I'm sure Tim Rosa bought the offensive coordinator would love a heavy dose of running the football work that clock for in this case why not throw over the middle to a wide open a Jerry Louie McGee you know those quick throws to journey the that is equivalent to a run play here he just runs a little five-yard stop bro let's the linebackers in their zone comforts clear out and he and dogs neighbor on the same page and when I catch Jerry Louie McGee moves into 14th in receiving yardage all time here at Montana Torres total and ironically Jerry Lewis McGee passes the offensive coordinator for Idaho State today Mike Faribault former Montana Grizzlies receiver for this program just incredible night with a first down another thing I'll say about this Montana team right now is watching the walkthrough and meetings yesterday they're having fun a couple years ago it just you know they it looked like they were just feeling the pressure the expectations they're just having fun now they're leading they're following the lead of Bobby how they're playing discipline and physical but most importantly they're playing with loose and having fun it's like a year second stint for Bobby how the speed has [Music] [Applause] put a throw but don't need in a terrific catch Samara Toure when you throw a street bro which is just the receiver going as fast as he can straight ahead downfield as a quarterback you know the TBM man is inside you put air under it and let him run to it beautiful pitch in catch by Montana first and goal with the two speed keeps [Applause] and that tells you a little bit about the moxie the dogs need plays with when he just showed every facet of his game we saw some drop back passes and throws across the middle we saw the arm strength throwing the stream down the right sideline and then the athletic ability to outrun some players and then the grit and toughness and determination to just get into the endzone any way he could young man I'm sure he's gonna eat up the replay that's gonna be showing all over the place perdy with the extra point is the Grizzlies may have put this one away 45 to 20 States TV set up by a 44 yard pass to Tori and then don't took care of the rest welcome back everybody Angie Mentink here with our college football analyst Michael bumpass I'm not easily impressed but I am impressed after that drive by the Montana Grizzlies samuri to rate that catch the athleticism that this kid possesses this is incredible yeah that was just a pre-snap read I think Snead saw there was a man cover he said I'm gonna give my boy a chance and tossed it up way does a great job of one to concentration you got a DB on your back pulling that you secure the catch all the way down to the ground but he stacked the DB that means he got on top of them and left roofers need to drop a dime on him that's just like a trust fall right there and then Sneed with the athleticism to basically high jump into the end zone after that capping that scoring drive Tom Taylor back to you guys as thinks about staggering numbers today Dalton Sneed 406 yards total offense the team with 459 as they just put the wraps on an eighth play 99 yard touchdown drive that took two minutes and 56 seconds last week at Davis Montana wins by a score of 45 to 20 and here we are with an identical score today in Missoula but quite possibly that will change with 1151 left to play but West Carpenters Union is recruiting for the future of the industry learn more about a career with the Carpenters at NW carpenter's dot org I tell you what dogs need I think supporting the argument his head coach Bobby have made us earlier this week that his guy is the best quarterback in this conference and that's saying something because there are more than a few good ones we saw one last week in mayor berry a at eastern case cookies northern Arizona and more well talent wise he's certainly making that argument as far as leadership I don't think there's a question that the way the guys on the team buy into him and the trust the coaches have Tim Rosen boss said he doesn't even have to have him do that anymore looking at them to check-in and follow-up he just trusts him because he knows how good and talented he is all right on second down for Idaho State that was Malachi Rango 510 175 down freshman out of San Mateo California just seven yards rushing coming into the game obviously a Rob Tennessee like favorite I want to get him some work with this game now and blowout mode with bang goes down by 25 remarkable we have had a 42 point swing in this game our first and 10 line is brought to you by northern quest Resort and Casino struck those deep well overthrows the intended receiver duller strong-armed nice smooth release but well defended Darien Nash right there that was actually the best delivered ball he's flaunting it shown the arms Frank nice spin but that was a throw he finally just stepped into it and followed through so he showed what he's capable of doing he just needs to trust himself in his linemen more second and 10 at the 36 [Applause] Arango right down by Gavin Robertson and really impressed with Gavin Robertson only a junior so he still got another year this could be a kid that by next year ends up not only being an old conference but in all the mirror five tackles today Dante Olsen 15 tackles to lead Montana and right behind him with 14 chased Luis look out could have been a dick by mr. Nash flag coming in on the plane there's a chance this could be an offensive PA Robbi Houck was indicating that but you wouldn't expect anything else from starting safety for the defense may go against Guler Jim Crowley our referee today [Music] Bobby h-how'd trying to figure out whether he should take it or not looks like he'll take it so this capacitor parents offense number two so if Montana would have declined that it would have been fourth and seven but I think he's saying hey that extra yardage the way our defense is playing let's move them back but that coverage right there that's what you call a cover to sink where the outside corners they sink to where that the yard markers are and any kind of comeback or stopped route they're just sitting right there so it looks like he really that but that was a great design defensively I know States gotta get from a power today the Pocatello to pick up the first down struck and his intended receiver Tanner Connors well-defended fourth down coming up well when you're down and on the road and then you're facing third and another area code it's just almost impossible the defense is just going to drop keep everything in front of year that the end start pinning their ears back and come in this is the point in the game where the deep end and outside linebackers know they can wrap up the statistics getting some sex Brian's putt to Louie McGee fair catch 951 remaining in this ballgame being dominated by the number 18 in FCS football the Montana Grizzlies up by 25 let's be campus here in Missoula University of Montana 8th rated Grizzlies up 45 to 20 after trailing Idaho State 17 to nothing early in the second quarter dogs needs day is done oh he is out all right we saw cam Humphrey warming up Dalton fine Sam you like him I think he's done enough for the day don't you I know he loves playing the game but he's over 400 yards total offense 360 now through the air two touchdowns on the ground 52 yards in another school I think Bobby Hawk says you know what you guys work your tails off in the offseason you've committed to this program you only get so many games in your career and especially as a senior so go do your thing second down and four right up the middle first down but are you a little surprised to hear Amanda the game one especially that call you seem getting up a little gimpy this surprises me the fact that you're so calm place where he can keep it if you couldn't give him the option he's just reading and so I would go to Mort designed runs or if it's going to be a pass make it something quicker he just gets it out of his hands for 120 yards now of total offense honestly maybe putting himself in position for a third straight coffin spoiled on the button and samuri torii hauling it in with Caleb brown all over so they did it to the right side they said you know what let's do it to the left side just to balance things out a little bit it's like that Twix the is it the right or left well they they went both sides right and left on that Street ground really good throw really good catch 38 yard game [Applause] first and ten at the 11:00 Smith keeps it that's back he slips down at the 5-yard line I love the competitiveness I just hold my breath every time he goes down at the risk of any injury you have so much this game you know you're gonna win this game but you've got a lot of important games coming up you want to make sure number 11 is healthy looking for his fourth rushing touchdown today denied but did get the first down so first and goal for Montana well night's Lebanese saying hey receivers you do all the heavy lifting getting down the field and once we get to the one or two yard line let me get the touchdown [Applause] 750 remaining in this time to us to see the two Titans shift Sneed dizzy him he is touchdown on Montana's second rushing touchdown today four dogs need to go along with the two he has thrown what an incredible performance by number 11 and you see him run and just limp a little bit but he is just an absolute stud throwing the ball running and and he's one of those guys yeah you can look at height weight speed stats all that what you can't do is just measure a kid's heart the the toughness and determination they have and he's the kind of guy that doesn't stand behind the troops inside charge he says hey I'll lead the way follow me and that's why his teammates and coaches respect him so much 52 220 it's all Montana in Missoula they're singing a sweet tune of success here in Missoula today that's not what they were doing down 17 to nothing but they're doing it now 52 to 20 but a day her dogs need holy smokes two rushing touchdowns two through the air 397 yards 68 on the ground Michael bumpass that's time that's her louder player that's a good pun got here this is good defense by the cornerback he's on his head he locates the ball we're just an even better throw feisty that's right over the shoulder to the silent where only his receiver can get it and my opinion this is one of the toughest cactus in football and to Ray goes NFL with it it gets two feet down instead of one he's trying to make the jump to the next level already guys hey bump I love that you're giving credit to the quarterback finally we're bringing you around right well we're bringing you around where where the real talent lies hey you know it's it's a working relationship TV we'll come out to the 25-yard line yeah good reason for Dalton Snead smile 463 yards of total offense today these guys have had three decent days as well tour a 188 yards and a touchdown at cam 135 Marcus Knight 31 yards through the air three touchdowns rushing Ranko the ball-carrier no tom going back to those stats we showed with the montana receivers samara did not have a a very big first half it was a kim it was other guys and that's what's so great about this team is they're very unselfish they go down and when other guys are getting theirs they're blocking forum for running backs for other receivers but they know their time is coming and that's what a good quarterback does he knows yeah you got to go through your weeds but you also got to make sure you're taking care of your guys and getting the ball to everyone and and sprinkle in little love to make your point it's a great one Tori with 188 receiving yards 180 in the second half 188 yards receiving 180 in the second half oh by the way with 650 remaining in the game but we're so used to saying as I can Tonio brown on the sideline yelling at the coordinator and the coach and the QB it's it's very good to see that Oh God but out of bounds made Shubert the intended receiver and punt team returns for Idaho State Michael McGuinness right there on the coverage really good coverage when they say I was on him like their gloves that is the definition there there was nowhere to go with that ball [Applause] so sir fielding that punt filling in for Jerry Louie McGee for the Griz host to rival Eastern Washington here in Missoula on October 26 for the private tradition getting your tickets today to witness what is sure to be an epic battle Dalton Sneed Eric Berry a come on that's pretty good stuff tickets available at Griz tix.com or 888 Montana keep up with the crows football by following them on Twitter and Instagram at Montana Griz football [Applause] the Dalton state has finally said I feel like I've done my job so he remains on the bench cam Humphrey is in six to 190 for junior out of gazook wha high school up to 20 miles east of Seattle started collegiately at Saddleback Junior College my guess is he'll be doing a lot of handing off this Bobby how come sure wants to get this down to zero as quickly as possible ball carrier number 25 and bandit was in a similar role last week Adam Eastwood can you Smith with the tackle [Applause] he stood again nice cutback by added Eastwood 51 yards Tom I know these guys are backups but a couple things one they still go to the same practice they still do all the offseason training so when they get in they want to get theirs the other is you have to know throughout the season you're gonna have to rely on backups and third string guys because of injuries or suspensions whatever it is but a nice job when you get your opportunity you gotta make it count that's what competition does in a great program that's what Bobby how can you stop for doing and that's what Eastwood just converted on his first touchdown of the season actually had more playing time last season but then the arrival of Marcus Knight [Music] 59 to 20 you mentioned a establishment earlier today you're a big fan of called the notorious b.i.g barbecue barton style yes I give it my check mark of approval there's us walking out notice he carrying two to-go boxes right I went in I couldn't decide everything look good so I said give me one of each I got the pulled pork sandwich the beef brisket I got the ribs and I got the burnt ends they were all phenomenal and that is a spot that was highly recommended from a bunch of people before the week and I think to each and every one of them personally afterward and that place if I lived here would be my downfall because I would add about 30 pounds of my first [Music] so I guess we know where you're going posting ads great moment from Eastwood young man is dealt with some adversity you saw the reaction his teammates gave him after that score and the affection they have for him he had the unfortunate fumble at the end of the brawl last season against Montana State now obviously from the Montana State perspective they didn't think it was too unfortunate at all but it took place near the goal line and preserved a victory for Montana State in that game but I don't think there's a person in this program that would tell you yes well that play obviously was magnified because of when it happened and where it happened there were a lot of other plays in that game that Tanner could have flipped they would have come out on top so good for him and again going from a more prominent role in the offense a season ago now to a backup role the mark is night that was a special rod terrific run for Adam Eastwood when you see every teammate has made sure they've gone over that patted his shoulders giving him a high-five guys that thoroughly respect and liked him strike [Applause] they get that time as that ball was brought brought in by number ten for the Bengals Isaiah Walter his first catch today Nash vouch with the coverage like a Walter right there also the summit has worked on the kickoff return team [Applause] Mira first down is Rango third down coming up seeing a lot of reserves defensively for Montana picking up some playing time right there Jed nag ler and on the tackle did not play it last week at UC Davis so health-wise he's doing much better Branko has the first down and you know tom we're talking about montana and rightfully so incredible comeback and basically second half they've totally dominated but let's give credit Idaho State head coach Rob Tennessee you got defensive coordinator Roger Cooper you got often scored and a Mike farad er these guys have come in and instilled confidence in this team and program like these kids have not had in recent years and they really believe talking to those kids last night talking to the coaches there's just a different culture there this is not going to be a team that people look at on the schedule go this is a this is a guaranteed win who do we play the next week this is a program that is on the uptick and a very very solid coaching staff they'll be home next week and Holt Arena in Pocatello with North Dakota in town bamboozle try to learn from this one flush it in a hurry and regroup for that matchup [Applause] you're running back in for the Bengals that's Raiden hunter 510 190 freshman out of San Diego angler again on the stop third down and two four and ten remaining in this contest if you joined us late you missed an Idaho State team right out of the gate look like they came here to pull off the upset jumping out to an early 17 to nothing advantage but since that point it has really been all Montana to the tune of about scoring Idaho State fifty nine to three [Applause] and maybe just the fact that he was thrown a long distance before it arrived in the area where the infraction took place this was just a slot fate to left your screen you'll see the receiver coming right there and incidental contact a feet get tangled up that's not a penalty but right there you got it disrupted the route and got his hand on the foot and they're gonna call that all day snow Powell for defensive pass interference tango Michael McGinnis off the hook [Applause] [Music] fourth down and two the Idaho State coaches are on the sidelines throwing their hands up saying come on throw us a bone so the bun team will come on Ryann and that man right there that is the the head coach Rob Tennessee and he's just so high-energy you know talking to him on our conference call talking them at the hotel last night I was talking to him pregame and he had me sit in the chair he showing me when he was a assistant coach how he was working with Homer Smith and doing these things and you just when you're around it it's infectious and you can see why the kids really buy into what he's saying for the last time Idaho stayed one in this series 2003 it was a double overtime game brought fantasy was on Bobby Hawk staff here at the University of Montana so he would have loved to have rolled in here today and ended that drought of 12 straight losses against the Grizz it will not happen let's head back to our root sports studio and see what's on that energy spine guys again it's homecoming for the Montana Grizzlies but unfortunately not all fans could be there but they are there in spirit it's where I represented by pain West insurance I love this woman Billings fires fires sends this one in snuck my sweatshirt on over the uniform can't be at the game today so here we go not all the buildings firefighters by the way apparently our Griz fan and then we've got this one from Ty cheering on the grids' in North Dakota go uncle Shan and also uncle Jase there on the Grizzlies staff and I finally have one more here from an checking in from canvas Washington keep them coming and get them on guys all right if you have some more you can keep on going we're good all right we'll take it from here 2:30 left to play Luva Varela tell you what Xavier with the stop watch Montana football a lot I've been to this stadium in campus before in the summer I had not been here on game day the tailgating the fans the atmosphere this stadium how loud it gets this is truly one of the special venues in the country at any level highly recommend putting it on the bucket list to get here and experience it I'll free you with the hand dog drew Turner with a catch catch excuse me with a carry and Tom just on this out there we gave him the Torre SP idea shout out there's some other good places to if if anyone out there listening knows of some good spots and recommendations let us know if there's one thing I know how to do and it is eat I can vouch for that [Applause] they're down at five we'll see some serious post game tailgating outside of Washington grizzly Stadium as well today on this Homecoming weekend why not let the celebration continued another carry by Turner fun team comes on for Montana want to mention Tim Rose my offensive coordinator for Montana you know he was eight than the Heisman race in 1988 as a quarterback at Washington State and loved what he said with his quarterbacks every week you come in most programs and you come in as a quarterback and you get a thick binder that has the scouting report on the opponent percentages that they're in this coverage in front on third and third and three through six whatever it is he said you know what no I let my quarterbacks watch film they take their own notes and bring them in to me and I love that I hadn't heard anyone do that and it and it really is coach to know what his guys are watching and to see it from their lens to help coach them better and I think Dalton Snead through that we've really seen his growth in progress ice tackled by Garret graves on punt coverage as he did a terrific job in the open field bringing down Michael Dean twenty-eight seconds left here in the Washington grizzly Stadium I certainly will not hurt Montana in the upcoming national polls want to jump last week after that win at UC Davis they go from eighteen to eight I mean rarely do you see a team pick a poll where you see a jump of of that nature which speaks to how this that win was viewed nationally going to a then ranked before us UC Davis and dominating them and domination again this afternoon of for Montana's Bobby Hawks club came all the way back from seven team nothing down to put together a 59 to 20 victory two good friends you're up fantasy telling us when he was offered the Idaho State job one of the first people he spoke with before accepting was Bobby how can he said Bobby was enthusiastic about man you got to take that job and then I don't want to say Rob wasn't gonna take it I think he was but that just sort of sealed the deal for him that all right if I get that guy's seal of approval he knows me he knows how I go about my business this is the one I should take I'm taking it and despite what we saw today I think Rob's got this team on a nice track if you look at the big picture of what they've done this season one I think at that 17 nothing point Bobby was looking over at the other sideline having regrets of recommending he take the high post a job he's gonna or what did I do but it's the respect men have for each other and the quality of the character of both men I mean that's pretty stand-up where you're not looking at your own programs best interest or yourself you're looking out for a friend and that's what they are and they really respect each other and learn from each other warm-ups looked identical on the field today coach has coached fantasy has really modeled his program after what Bobby Hope has done at Montana he was on the staff the first time around and really has taken his leave so for Bango nation you got to feel very good about the future and where things are going with this program under Rob Hennessey so Montana conference play to it oh now 5 and 1 on the season Idaho State drops to 2 and 3 1 and 1 and the Big Sky solicited on the fight side here in Washington grizzly Stadium [Applause] [Applause] it's how it sounds when you win fifty nine to twenty on homecoming a day let's send it back to our roots sports studio Angie Mentink and Michael bumpass guys thanks so much a lopsided score but you saw mutual admiration for each other with Rob Hennessy and Bobby how I call it the coaching tree you know it starts like this and then the branches the limbs all the way down to the leaves it just continues to go Dalton Sneed what a fantastic job he did to today and he had some options but I want to focus in on Sammy am Sammy akin he really got this offense rolling in you would think of him as a downfield receive her a lot of his catches were brought across the field knowing that he's gonna get hit he's kind of that safety blanket when it comes to getting us off his going and he's short he was reliable today he had ten catches $435 a long of 27 as you see here reliable hands he knows he's going to get hit that's one of the worst thing I was receiving when the ball is coming to you know you're gonna hit you still make a play here he shows his down pill thread ability nice clean touchdown easy money Samuel Kim had a great day it was fun to watch yeah on the other side s Maury Tori Tori to Ray rather this guy ends up with a hundred and eighty-eight yards on the day and it just seemed like it wouldn't anything that he could do out there I mean there that he couldn't do rather it was almost like sneezes closed his eyes hey I know I know where this kid is I'm going to give him a couple of chances we highlight a couple of his catches during this game on the sidelines with defenders on them I don't know who the receiver coaches but a big up see if you got these guys going and Snead this place in the ball and only places his receivers can get it as a receiver we love that keep giving us chances and we'll make you look good Smith keep tossing that ball to Ray yes new at nearly 400 yards passing for more on Dalton Sneed we go back to Tom and Taylor guys alright Angie Michael thanks so much lots to talk about when it comes to Dalton Sneed we saw a 5 touchdown passing performance last week at UC Davis - through the air today two more on the ground and you've talked about that thing you can't find it a in a deadline the leadership that he deliveries yeah the intangibles the pocket presents getting in the right checks making good decisions he could have tucked that and run that and gotten a few yards but instead he keeps his eyes downfield delivers a strike now here the ability that speed to get outside turn the corner but then the determination he is getting into that end zone no matter what ends up almost helicoptering back flip looked like an acrobat but now he's in the middle of that huddle talking to his group and everyone is tuned in that you can't teach that you can't coach that that is just in so many positive parts of this Montana a team on display today but when you talk about Snead and the targets Toure Samuel ACAM both well over a hundred yards receiving the day effect or a 180 yards alone in the second half finished with 188 in a relatively quiet day for Jerry Lewis McGee that tells you about the depth they have Jerry Lee beginning McGee can be quiet in the game and it just simply doesn't matter with two other targets like that so a good stuff night with the three touchdown runs and defensively after they got kind of stung early in this game down 17 that defense gave up three points for the bulk of the final three quarters so they really up their game as this game went along if you're gonna be a championship team you have to be able to handle every type of situation you have to get up big and then sustain that you have to learn how to come from behind you got to win them special teams offense defense doesn't matter you have one point more than the opponent that's all that matters at the end of the day alright from Missoula we're gonna make our way to Cheney Washington next week for our next big sky match Eastern to Washington will be taking on northern Colorado we hope you will join us for that with an impressive homecoming performance by the Montana Grizzlies 59 to 20 winners over Idaho State this afternoon and be sure and join us next week two o'clock mountain time 1 o'clock Pacific from Eastern Washington University for Taylor Barden and our entire root sports crew I'm top Alaska thanks for joining us from Missoula up great day everyone [Music]
