[Music] oh well and i wanted you to analyze that because they are first in the big sky in red zone defense and first tied for first nationally in red zone offense they are i think 10 for 10 in scoring been in the red zone 10 times in three games now that's not all that much and i look you know they're averaging about what 24 points a game something like that and i thought well we've been scoring a lot more than that but the bengals literally have only uh averaged about 27 and a half points a game so not much more yeah that's true but i think that their offense has progressed to a point to where um you're going to hopefully see a lot more points from them this week um they're starting to click a little bit better tyler vander waals starting to play a lot better you should see a lot more points from another thing um this is just the style of uh of offense that isu does play they're a spread offense and i know i've mentioned this before but because of a spread offense you know as a spread offense you want to score 35 points a game yes and you want to give up 28 points a game well i isu's given up a little bit a lot more than that up to this point and they're scoring what 27 points a game so you know that that'll tell you a little bit about why they're one and three versus three on one at this point in the season and if you look back at the games that they've played in the opponents that they've had you know you've mentioned that idaho is the number 24 team in the nation which they are and they're a very good football team but this is no nothing new to the bengals you know they took on the number four number nine number 13 team in the nation and they played them all really really well and each of those games was winnable just like this game if they come out and if they can score 35 points today and hold idaho to the under 28 points that you want to see from you know with a spread team like this i mean obviously the numbers don't add up right yeah it's going to be a victory for the bengals um then you talk about idaho's defense well isu wants to run that same style of defense you know you watch them play what they want to do is they want to limit first and second down and then they want to win third down and force a punt and if they give up a third down it's supposed to be a short third down in order to you know even if they keep the chains going they're not going to get big plays well the difference between idaho's defense and isu's defense is that they're making the big plays when they need to and isu isn't they're giving up the 60-yard run they're giving up a touchdown in the last eight seconds of the game things like that that's the difference you know and if uh if the bengals can solidify some of those and play a little bit more discipline defense today they have a really good chance of winning this game well guess who's taking the field idaho state and there's that black flag a jolly roger whatever the heck it means it's a black flag game for isu it looks like they're on a different sideline today too jerry yeah that's uh that is a change for the bengals as well the captains are on the field for the coin toss we don't have a list of who the officials for today's game are they're trying to get the referees mic going but the vandals will make the call and we'll watch and see idaho won the toss [Music] and we'll receive so with that we wrap up the pregame show we'll come back with a kickoff after these messages on the bengal broadcast network right to left across your radio dial david all is set to kick off even though kevin ryan was number one in the two deeps kicking off so so deep for the vandals is nick romano and catrell haywood and this kick will go into the end zone with a fair catch haywood calls for the fair catch takes it five yards deep and the vandals start the first drive of the game first down at their own 25-yard line and we are expecting number five to be a quarterback mike beaudry who did not play last week we believe he was sidelined by covet 19 for two weeks it looks like number five jerry okay vandals are set out of the pistol two receivers left one right one setback i believe that's romano he's to the right of beaudry out of the pistol line of scrimmage 25-yard line beaudry takes the snap he fires to the right it is complete and i believe the vandals have a first down outside the numbers out at the 35 yard line great little pass play right to the weakness of the cover for defense the base defense idaho state runs there just a good pitching catch catrell haywood on that reception first down vandals out to the 36 11 yard pickup bengals loading the box coming with pressure play comes to this side no gain maybe even a loss of a yard back to the 35 it'll be second and 11 and that was nick romano on the carry on the tackle for idaho state terrence jones the vandals are pretty good up front if the bengals want to make uh win this game today they're going to have to win the battle up front in the trenches and to give to romano again over right tackle and he is very near a first down he goes down out at the 45 one yard short of the first down and it looks like ken and smith made the hit third and one for the vandals at their own 45-yard line [Applause] heavy set on the line the quarterback keeps it beaudry's got a first down to midfield he's just shy of the 50 going down to the 49 so it's a first down idaho there on the tackle for the bengals jaden dawson [Music] idaho already doing what they're good at just managing playing underneath getting simple yardage is moving the ball down the field nice and easy beaudry is a big boy he is 6'5 245 pounds [Music] first down he takes the snap play action fake throws to the outside the ball is caught and there's about a five yard gain to the isu 46-yard line it'll be second and five to go for the vandals at the bengal 46. and that was hayden hatton their top receiver for the vandals look you'll be looking to see his say his name a lot today jerry [Applause] hadden now with 27 catches on the year second and five vandals handoff to romano he goes right and no gain he's stuffed at the line of scrimmage now give him a yard to the isu 45 bringing up third and four big play here on third down jerry it would be interesting to see if idaho state draws up a pressure and to see how beaudry handles that pressure vandals send three receivers to the near left side it looks like idaho state's just showing a simple zone for cover four defense here romano the tailback next to beaudry beaudry's got the ball four-man rush he pumps fires incomplete intended for romano outside the numbers on the vandal sideline incomplete he overthrew romano and so the punt unit comes on the field perfect read there by beaudry he had romano in the flat the idaho state receiver with a little lake into his flat coverage perfectly perfectly drawn up play it looked like the running back coming out of the backfield had just ran into rasheed williams number 25 threw him off his route just enough to mess up the qb's timing rango deep for the bengals cade coffee the punter and he gets a high kick away and rango runs away from it and it takes a vandal bounce and is down inside the 10. idaho state will start out first and ten at its own six yard line and what a kick by coffee i guess that's why he's an all-american yep he was one of two vandals to take part in their pro day last week the other one the son of former nfl star luther ellis they've got ellis's still coming up through the ranks yeah at idaho that's a great name in moscow jerry first down bengals at their own six yard line vanderwaal standing at the one rango the tailback takes the handoff comes over the right side breaking a couple of tackles gets out to about the nine yard line for a three yard pickup it'll be second and seven down as i mentioned in the pre-game show jerry the idaho has some of the best linebackers that i've seen play in the big sky level here with uh um and the run the running yards today are not going to come easy for the bengals so they're going to have to be patient they're going to have to stick to their game plan and and follow through with what they have written up this time vanderwaal under center has two tight ends on the left and he'll pitch it back to rango going left looking for a seam and he gets out across the 10 to the 12 yard line another three yard pickup and that will bring up third down and four for the bengals from their own 12. this is a big third down right here the university of idaho very good against third down conversions idaho station on the heavy pass set here jerry [Applause] wrangle in the backfield next to vanderwaal bengals have a third and fourth at their own 12-yard line no score they force the vandals to punt from midfield vanderwaal looking right left tucks it spins he's across the 15 to the 17 and he gets a crucial first down for idaho state on the bengals first possession of of the uh of the game defensively where did that move come from jeff ray walker he just saw trey walker coming out all conference i'm going to spin conference linebackers oh i better spin out of this one so it's a first down bengals at their own 17. again under center van der waal play action fake forced to roll to his right skirts a tackler and throws incomplete into the isu bench [Music] almost looked like a miscommunication there looked like he was hoping chris frederickson would would run what is called a post corner so where he runs in to the field and then runs a corner route looked like he was looking for him deep but it was either the pressure that threw him off or the miscommunication on the route looks like jaden hunter in there at tailback he goes in motion [Music] on second and ten vanderwaal up the left side he's got his man at the 40. across midfield and out of bounds tanner connor beat the defender at midfield and the bengals have a big first down in idaho territory timing jerry perfect timing in the past great pass perfect timing on the route and idaho showing a man coverage right there and tyler vanderwaal taking taking advantage of it throwing it to his big tall receiver that's the fastest hurdler in the big sky conference now a two back set back there with vanderwaal they both come to the right and the toss to rango he gets outside at the 35 and he's knocked out of bounds at the 30-yard line for another bengal first down in on the attacker dairys deadman so something there you notice that the wide receiver chris fredrickson it looked like he might have had a block in the back there but if you watch his hands he lifted his hands up and put his chest on the guy if you lift your hands up like that the ref isn't going to call a block in the back even if you hit somebody in the back i don't know how it works that way it's a smart move by the freshman van vanderwaal again under center tight end moves from left to right tyler will hand it off hunter looking for a seam and only gets a yard to the vandal 29 it'll be second and nine from there there it is again jerry number eight treasure trey walker he's a player jerry [Music] i had a chance to watch a few of their games preparing for this week's broadcast and i'll tell you what that kid shows up a lot bengals have a second and nine at the 29 of idaho receiver in motion and to give up the middle and rango gets down to about the 23 yard line a six yard pickup it'll be third down from the vandal 23 the bengals need three yards and chris ellis one of those good good ellis linebackers made the hit on that play [Music] this is where idaho flourishes jerry this is their spot third down and short almost inside the red zone we'll see what coach ferreter and the bengals have drawn up to get this first down two wides to each side vanderwaal throws deep cut inside the 5. [Applause] i don't know if that was a great play drawing up jerry or just an amazing catch but whatever it was at work jerry jackson woodward made the hit but the bengals have a first and goal at the vandal three-yard line orango carries up the middle fuse in touchdown idaho state is idaho state going tempo there jerry i don't know if it was to catch idaho off guard or if it was because they thought tanner connor might have landed out of bounds on the previous play and they hurried and ran a play before they could review it if you look here's the replay here ooh it was chloe looked like he had the ball in and he hit first so it was probably just tempo to catch idaho off guard and it worked bengals ready for the point after kevin ryan lefty they call him hayden hunter the holder the kick is up it is low but good and the bengals take a seven nothing lead scoring from 94 yards on a really nice drive we'll recap that after we take this time out on the bengal broadcast network idaho state up 7-0 here on pluto tv [Music] 740 to go here in the first quarter alice with a wobbly kick going about four yards into the end zone the vandals let it bounce out the back and they'll start over again at their own 25-yard line trailing 7-0 i'm surprised he didn't feel that one jerry i know romano he's been one of the top returners in the big sky conference i think even coach fennessy himself said he's one of the best if not the best i'm interested to see why he's not taking those and running them out i know that it's a huge breadth of relief for uh for the bengal coaching staff beaudry at quarterback for the vandals romano goes in motion out of the backfield to the right straight drop beaudry forced up out of the pocket and he's going to keep it across the 30 the 35 and in on the tackle for idaho state number 20 darian green but a big gain 15 yards for the vandals almost they're going to spot the ball out at the 38-yard line and i idaho run on the same play that weber state ran against isu to score their touchdown and you could tell isu a little bit more experienced and ready for at that time running a streak down the middle of the field with their running back receiver in motion from left to right beaudry checking off adjusting formation takes the snap wants to throw goes outside to the right and misfires he throws wide for the intended receiver out on the numbers at the 40-yard line i would expect to see a lot of those little short routes with the cover four defense that the bengals play a lot of those short outside little out slants those kind of route concepts are going to be open for the vandals and that's just right in their comfort zone hayden hatton the intended receiver second and ten vandals at their own 38-yard line bengals come with pressure and maybe a half yard on the play for romano it'll be third down nine yards to go rasheed williams a name that's been around six years at isu in on the hit yeah it looks like uh kainoa fujiava therefore on the head too number 94. great play great discipline third down nine yards to go vandals at their own 39. two receivers wide right two to the left one in motion from right to the slot beaudry fires incomplete almost picked off it went off the arms of the receiver and right through the hands of quantrill morris walker for the bengals or isu would have completed the first turnover of the afternoon as it is it'll be fourth and nine for the vandals from their own 39. a lot of orange jerseys in front of him jerry and only one white jersey in front of them when he watches that on film tomorrow or on monday he's going to be really uh really mad about dropping that kade coffee takes the snap he'll boom away a beautiful high spiral wrangle calls for a fair catch and takes it at the isu 12 yard line and for the second time the bengal defense holds but the offense still pretty deep in its own territory has to start out at its own 12-yard line what a difference maker jerry the punter coffee he just reversed the entire field he counted it from what the 30-yard line and isu now has it at the 10 yard line i mean that's outstanding no one talks about punters i mean i never hear anyone talk about punters in the league college football high school football you know in high school football it's just kind of whoever can kick the ball takes the place of a punter right but in all reality i mean look at what kind of a weapon that is now i mean if you can pin a team inside their 20-yard line every time you punt it as he can that is a huge advantage to any football team by the way for every successful first down conversion by your bengals mountain america credit union donates 50 dollars to the operation warm initiative to help provide free shoes and winter coats to kids in need in the pocatello area mountain america credit union is a proud sponsor of idaho state university athletics and so far today the bengals with four mountain america credit union first downs also want to remind you that farm bureau insurance and idaho state athletics are giving you the chance to win the ultimate bengal date night complete with a 100 restaurant gift card tickets to today's game oh well i guess that's expired so we'll drop that one that depends is it can they come in a half time sale jay i don't know because you have to register online hey man with these cell phones these days jerry you can do that yeah it doesn't take very long i suspect they already have a winner we've got 608 to go on the clock idaho state up 7-0 here in the first quarter bengals first down at their own 12-yard line after the second vandal punt of the day isu put together a 94-yard scoring drive on their first possession give durango coming to their side no vanderwaal kept it and he spun down at the 10-yard line that didn't fool anybody but me mitch great discipline by the defensive end jerry that's called a zone read play he has the option of giving it to the running back or keeping it himself most defensive ends especially with what you've seen on film with idaho state would follow the running back the qb has not kept it very much that was excellent discipline and that's how you win football games right there jerry's discipline he showed it and 12 to go for the bengals now from their own 10 yard line and a handoff and going up the middle rango again and he gets back to the original line of scrimmage so we got the two yards back and trey walker again he's in there again on the tackle you're going to say his name a lot uh the other linebacker was his name i have a hard time pronouncing his name and the defender jumps across then the isu right tackle pushed him back let's see which way it's going to go i think it'll go against we'll see offside vandals that was malachi williams a 6'5 freshman from gilbert arizona he's trying to say that he hadn't crossed the neutral zone or engaged in the offensive linemen but if he's the one that starts the contact then they're going to call down the defender every time so that moves the ball to the 17 now it is third and five for isu and the bengals need another big third down conversion van der waal taking his time has the snap steps up fires out to the left it's caught at the 35 tanner connor with his third catch of the game and the bengals have a first down at their own 40-yard line what an excellent route there jerry tanner connor had a he was double covered on that play they're expecting him to run a deep row he plants his foot comes back to it sends both of the vandal defenders down field and he's wide open for the first down and connor goes down on a knee as he comes near the sideline he looks like he lost a shoe and so he comes out and in for the bengals is christian frederickson out of rigby high school so all freshman receivers right now for the bengals playing and vanderwaal says hey let's go i want to play but the vandals had gone to a huddle on the far sideline with their coach so the bengals with another mountain america credit union first down have two receivers wide of the near right side not too wide wrangle the tail back and to give to rango and he loses a yard at the 39 and the vandal front is starting to stiffen up saw that coming the whole time jerry something i was just noticing um just the amount of upperclassmen that the vandals have up front you know we said that that was their strength but if you look across you have a senior senior senior and one junior all redshirt seniors redshirt senior richards union redshirt jr these guys have been in the program for a long time they know how to play idaho vandal football charles akano made the tackle for the vandals two back set one in motion vanderwaal is going to be sacked back at the 30-yard line and again trey walker oh you're going to hear that name today you already have about it he only played in two of the games that they played so far and i think he leads their team in tackles if not leads them i think he's a close close second and it's the two inside backers that have have all the tackles for them bengals now have third down from their own 33 where they mark it that's third in about 17. third and along 16 short 17. vanderwaal with just a three-man rush rolls to his right looks fires deep up the right side caught at the 25-yard line by xavier the x-men did it xavier guillory on the receiving end [Applause] wow what a catch you know i told you he's the all-around guy for him he's a deep threat he's a bigger body of all the freshmen just excellent catch he has a little bit of separation vanderwaal saw him what a play bengals have a first down at the 24. rango going over the right side gets down to the 22 for a three yard gain [Music] by christian ellis i mean perfect read he read it beautifully he played it exactly how a linebacker should have played that and malachi rango somehow snuck in between him that's why i say he's slippier than a than a soapy eel jerry jayden hunter in at tailback bengals have a second and eight from the vandal 22 three receivers to the left and van der waals straight drop under pressure steps up and fires incomplete at the 10-yard line and guillory again the intended receiver just excellent up front from the vandals again i mean you only rush four guys and to dance as much as van der waal had to dance on that play it's really hard to make it an excellent throw so a penalty against the vandals moves the ball inside the 20. offside against the vandals was the call so the bengals now with a second and three at the vandal 22 yard line make it the 17-yard line you're going to see some mail looks like zone coverage here for the vandals showing man vanda wildfires almost intercepted he threw behind guillory who was running a post from the right side and he just threw behind him and it went you know miscommunication we've talked about tyler's arm he just spun that thing right through the arms of the defender yeah isu receivers are used to that ball coming in hot and i'm not sure the vandals are but you know miscommunication could have been costly it could have been a detrimental error there for the bengals so they're very fortunate unfortunate for the vandals to drop that but uh third and three here comes the blitz and the gib to hunter he's at the ten the five touchdown bengals [Applause] great play culture the run has not been there but idaho does a full rotation of their defensive front every single series um and you know so you're going to get their ones who are excellent then you're going to get their two unit uh coach ferrari saw that their two unit was in decided on third and short to go with the run play there and they big water blitz they ran a little twist he ran right where the twist was that jake wilkerson made an excellent read took a step backwards and cut off the guy that had twisted into the gap and sprung it free ryan on for the point after it's good and the bengals go up 14-0 with 153 left to go in quarter number one and a reminder fans we're inside the 211 mark in the game so a quick reminder please have conversations with trusted family and friends about their opioid use the discussions you have today could save a life tomorrow visit stopoverdoseidaho.org or call 211 for resources to help 14 nothing bengals the kickoff to idaho after this time out on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv in the first quarter that last drive 89 yards in nine plays punctuated by a 17-yard touchdown run after an offside call against the vandals gave the bengals second down over again and jaden hunter running it in for idaho state or raiden hunter rather for his first rushing touchdown of the year and this bengal kickoff again taken on a fair catch in the end zone by the vandals romano and idaho for the third time here in quarter number one starts out with possession at its own 25 yard line both times the vandals have been forced to punt away you know and uh you might feel comfortable right now if you're a bengal fan 14-0 over idaho but idaho is used to this they've played from down every game that they've played so far and um they've won two of them so they know what they're doing they've been here done that beaudry hands the ball off to the tail back he gets back to the line of scrimmage that is not romano that is davis denga [Music] excuse me that's rashawn johnson and bam bam makes a good push in the backfield that's uh that's the row david david rowe out of madison high school in idaho great pushback way to push him back into their backfield and he just kind of ran into bodies there gain of one second and nine from the 26. beaudry fake pitch escapes one would be tackler and goes down just across the 30 as o'shea trujillo caught up to him beaudry did a good job of slipping a tackle in the backfield and turned it into positive yards that's why they teach you when you come free like that off the edge jerry your coats will teach you attack the outside eye of the quarterback if you go too far out field he'll step up and you'll whiff third and four vandals from their own 31 yard line going right to left beaudry hands it off romano's got a first down out across the 35 to the 37 yard line that's a great play call just a simple draw isu expecting pass vanvel's running a draw there showing pass and then handing it off great play call [Music] ball spotted at the 38. [Music] kainoa fuiaba for the bengals but the vandals have another first down they trail by two scores beaudry to throw on first down it is incomplete at the 45 yard line idaho going to be kicking themselves jerry they've had a couple opportunities wide open guys a couple drops a couple overthrows i don't know if it's the environment a whole tarina or what but uh a lot of uh what's going in the bengals favor right now is due to mistakes from the vandals catrell haywood dropped that jaden dawson on coverage for the bengals second and ten idaho at the vandal 38 yard line three receivers left one in man coverage to the right beaudry barks the signals fakes the hand off fires over the middle it's caught at the 45 short of the first down it'll bring up third and three from the vandal 45 yard line gain of seven great catch there by hatton you know it's it looks easy but you got a big linebacker standing there ready to stick his nose in your throat it's a lot harder to ring that ball and then it looks and that was a great catch great job looking it in and that is the end of quarter number one the teams will switch sides after one the idaho state bengals 14 the university of idaho vandals zero will be back with more bengal football after these messages on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv have played one quarter here at isu's hult arena and the bengals on top of the university of idaho vandals 14 to nothing after one quarter idaho state with seven mountain america credit union first downs the vandals have four isu with 173 total yards the vandals were just 64. i think that's correct yes 19 plays 173 yards for isu's 16 for 64 for the vandals now going left to right with a third and three at the vandal 45 yard line big play for the vandals here to try to stay in the ball game you need to get a first down here keep the keep the chains moving beaudry play action toss is complete to the near side and it is caught again by hatton [Music] it's a first down vandals yeah when you need a first down third and short you need a first down you're down 14-0 you go to your guy and that's what the vandals did there rashawn johnson still in there running back and here's the toss almost intercepted jaden dawson was the only one there as beaudry's pass was way over the head of the intended receiver playing short i'm not exactly sure what that flag could be jerry had to be a former oh there it is legal formation it is when they throw the flag that fast but still you know you have to make that interception there whether there's a flag or not you got to make that interception you got to get the pick get you know get the ball back in your offenses hands you know as many mistakes as the vandals have had offensively and dropping the balls i think isu has returned the favor defensively and dropping interceptions so now the vandals go back on their own side of midfield and they have a first and 15 at their own 48-yard line beaudry hands it off and getting back to midfield is johnson on the tackle for isu kennan smith it is second and 13 for the vandals from midfield on first down and second down and long a lot of teams like to run a little drop plays like that a lot of teams are expecting the past trying to prevent a deep play because they know they have to have a lot of yards and a lot of teams will chip away at the at the sticks just by doing a little draw play like that [Music] isu was ready for it though two receivers left one right beaudry again wants to throw dancing firing up the right sideline caught inside the 30-yard line by catrell haywood for a vandal first down and they were picking on jayden dawson again it looked like they got him on the double move he was he was coming up the sideline he planted his foot like he was going to come back to it john bid on it jaden dawson bit on it and then he planted his foot again and ran up the field leaving him behind him and was able to make the catch first down vandals at the isu 25 yard line their deepest incursion pass out to the left side and a nice gain on the play down to the isu 20. [Music] again on the catch for a five yard gain i say it was nice because he drug the defender quantrell morris walker with him for about four of those five yards looks like maybe romano back in at running back is rashawn johnson still second and five vandals from the 20 and the give to johnson he's got a hole and down to the 15. they say the knee went down at the 14 so he is a yard short of the first down at the 16-yard line third and one idaho sticking with what they're good at here you know not panicking they're only down 14. like i said joy they've been here they know what they're doing they're only down 14. they're going to stick to the game plan hit the small things hit the short routes run the ball keep possession of the ball you know especially when isu's offense is playing as well as they are you want to keep the ball out of their hands and just move methodically down the field just like this and uh you know they're they're following the game plan really well right now vandals have a third and one at the isu 16. we'll take a one minute break and be back with isu on top 14-0 early second quarter on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv 14 nothing the idaho vandals have a third and one at the isu 16-yard line big play here for the you want to go to first down you've got to get some points on the board and seven's way better than three right here in the situation that the vandals are in the only wide receiver all alone with the defender out near the numbers on the right side third and one receiver in motion and a timeout this time called by idaho state they've looked at the formation and as soon as that receiver went from the left wing to the right wing isu called a defense or a timeout so they could get set again for this very important play for the vandals to see two timeouts here over the same down and distance in the same situation you know this is a big play both coaches taking this one really seriously [Music] fans want to remind you hotels [Music] johnson's still in at tailback on third and one they've got a two-back set [Applause] [Music] [Applause] beaudry sets that wingman in motion again to the right and he is hit and dropped in the backfield holy cow all right you said push off the edge with her their playmaker osha trujillo he came in hard idaho running what's called the play action faking the handoff o'shea did not fall for it he knew the qb was taking it the whole time and the qb just set himself up for the hit trujillo coming in from that front left side he just came in untouched and laid the leather on beaudry they don't block that guy because they expect him to fall for the run and to go inside where o'shea knew was a pass all the way fourth and five for the vandals they go for it for even bigger stopping yard line and another time out this time called by the vandals so that is three timeouts we've had called by these two teams in the last 48 seconds [Music] you think this drive is pretty important jerry you kind of get that notion don't you idaho stayed on top 14 to nothing and mitch during the timeout she'd been talking to us about other scores they are in the fourth quarter with less than 12 minutes to go weber state and southern utah in cedar city are all tied up now at 16 each and in davis california eastern washington leading the aggies 29-15 just under way in the fourth quarter as well defensive show down there in cedar city jerry wow two of the top defenses in the big sky conference going head to head and the vandals are going to go for the field goal cade coffee is out there they want the points on the board coffee from 37 yards easily has enough and puts it through and the vandals are on the board with 11 54 left in quarter number two we'll take a break idaho state's lead now cut to 11 14 to three bengals back in a moment on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv put together a 12-play 55-yard scoring drive that ends with cade coffee's third field goal of the season his first of the game from 37 yards and the vandals are on the board 11 54 left to go here in quarter number two idaho state got the first two scores of the game forcing the vandals to punt on their first two possessions and the bengals turned each one of those drives into touchdowns and now idaho using two timeouts i think it was smart jerry yeah for the field goal get the points on the board if isu gets a stop there now they have all the momentum their offensive is clicking goes back onto the field you know and now you know they kind of stop the momentum a little bit coffee kicks off and this will be taken at the goal line by rango he's at the 10 to 15 the 20 the 25 and out to about the 28 yard line 28 yard return for malachi rango and the bengals start out first down at their own 28 with a 14-3 lead a lot of football left in this one one of the things that it's hard to see you know on the tv station is uh just all of the little fights and the the brawls and stuff going on on a special teams play you know i think it's important for fans to know that special teams are a chance for freshmen to make a name for themselves it's a chance for them to prove themselves as a future starter on the team especially for linebackers and tight ends you know you're going to see a lot of kids get real emotional in special teams and i love it jerry idaho state first down at the bengal 28 yard line bengals up 14-3 and flags on the play or is it a time out is not very happy on the sideline obvious miscommunication there on the field and fantasy making it well known to his staff he's not happy about whatever they just did each team now with just one time out left here in the first half as combined they burned three in the last minute and a half of play and now four each team is called two timeouts in a little more than a minute of play here tyler vanderwaal made a very emotional post on twitter yesterday or the day before included a photo of his father ringing a bell in the hospital indicating he has recovered from cancer boy you talk about good news supersedes any win in football vanderwaal with one tail back rango back there he'll hand it off malachi across the 30 to the 32 and on the tackle favia yeah and you watch that play it looked like the the vandal d-line had that play eaten up and there was nowhere to go and somehow he juked his way through there and turned a loss of yardage into a gain of about four yards second and six two receivers each way rango in motion tossed to him to the near side oh he is outnumbered and managed to get close to the line of scrimmage and now we've got flags ranco pushed the tackle out of bounds after he got up and i smart play smart play by the vandals he got in his face when he stood up he said something to him he knew he was going to fight back guess what they don't call the they don't throw the flag on the first guy it's always the guy with the rebuttal and that that was the case right there the i couldn't tell i think it was 47 from the event or 45. it was roof fly roof high from the vandals said something to oh looks like he grabbed his leg and then just flopped i mean it's for sure a little bit of a flop but he sold it well and it's a 15 yard penalty [Music] you know credit to him for uh taking advantage of the situation [Music] so malachi rango gets his first 15-yard personal foul penalty with the unsportsmanlike conduct and you take a third and eight and turn it into a third in forever and those are the kind of things you can't have if you want to be a team like this jerry i tell you they're comfortable right now idaho is not panicking they've been down before they know they can come back now shouldn't it be second down that was a third down play then it was a second place right dead ball foul yeah yep so it had become third down and the ball goes back to the 16 yard line no back to yes the 16. you want to be smart if you're watching the game if you're malachi ringo there you need to be the one that falls if you're the one that falls you're going to get the penalty but turning around and pushing a guy especially in the face you're going to get a 15-yarder every time so the bengals going from their own 16 need to get out to the 38 yard line for 22 yards looks like roof i've been watching a little bit of soccer european league soccer there too hey if it works it works [Applause] [Music] raiden hunter in a tailback bengals four wides three right two left van der waals with lots of time fires complete over the middle to tanner connor he got a lot of it back but he's only out to the 34 where he went to his knees with the catch defending on the play was jaylen hoover and the bengals have a fourth and four and the punt unit comes on for the first time today for isu but a big key to be able to get that yardage back out to the 34 and improve their field position rayden hunter being a good teammate there with a pancake block on roof five defending his uh his running back defending the starting running back and his teammate lefty to punt gets a low snap kevin ryan booms this one fair catch called for and taken all the way back to the 13-yard line by catrell haywood of the vandals and they will start inside their own 20 but for the first time they have held the bengal offense without putting points on the board and the vandals down 14-3 with 10 13 to go here in the second quarter will start out first and 10 at their own 18 yard line 13 rather the problem is though now jerry now take that exact same play and run it from third and eight yards and you have a first down in the ball still moving i mean penalties like that can kill you just ask idaho with their offside penalties vandals with two wides left one right and to give romano going over the left side is upended at the 15. he got just two yards before o'shea trujillo spun him in the air and that looks like thick pin dylan thickpin the senior running back from idaho that's getting again the reps here i have not seen romano since the first quarter so dylan thigpen with only his 13th carry of the year but listed as their leading rusher toss up the near side way out in front of the intended receiver patton the ball came down between the 45 and 50 and hatton was only around the 40. looked like he had a little bit of pressure in his face just trying to get rid of the ball before he give up a sack and he didn't want to give up the interception third down vandals from their own 15-yard line eight yards to go to the first down marker 9 38 left to go second quarter vandals down 14-3 hatton goes in motion from the far right side bengals load the box toss over the middle intercepted by idaho state at the 30-yard line grabbing the deflected pass bengal safety quantreo morris walker the true freshman from san juan capistrano california made up for it made up for the first miss but i think if you ask him you'd probably rather have two than one right now don't you think an idaho state showing an interesting coverage there we're in a deep cover three and putting oh your heel in the deep third on the sideline i haven't seen that coverage before it looked like uh beaudry had not seen it before either so the bengals now were the first down at the vandal 29 yard line 9 31 to go two wides right two left hand off up the middle and i believe that's rango back in there to get down to the 26 yard line for a three yard carry defensively for the vandals trey walker second and seven for isu from the idaho 26. rango picked up that unsportsmanlike conduct foul on the last bengal dry which forced them into a punting situation nine minutes left to go quarter number two bengals up 14-3 looking for more vanderwaal over the middle a diving catch made inside the 15 yard line and the bengals have another first down in the red zone nice catch there a little low as he was coming across the middle of the field you heard a little thump it kind of sounded like it might have hit an isu going hurry up to avoid a review and to give up the middle rango getting down close to the 10-yard line nate schubert made the catch on that last play [Music] [Applause] so the bengals have a second and seven from the 10. great job just getting a couple yards looks like it looks like idaho had that play will well beaten and he still got a couple yards on that jaden hunter and a tailback and vanderwaal throws complete to the five inside the five spinning down at the one yard line xavier guillory on the receiving end and it's first and goal bengals at the one-yard line and now you just gotta be smart here first and goal you're on the three-yard line knock on wood jay from what we've seen jaden hunter he will not get it there's a flag on the play raiden hunter sorry i appreciate the correction let's see what the flag is illegal formation isu so the bengals go back to the six yard line where it'll be first and goal from there is you up 14 3 and what do i always say in this situation mitch is a little more comfortable with a little more green uh there you go they've got more room to play with now but they can't run their uh highest scoring offensive play the quarterback carrying the quarterback yeah they're not draw sneak snake up the middle vanderwaal now out of the pocket or rather out of the pistol he'll take it lob one for this corner and guillory can't get there he got a hand on it but that was the best he could do it was outside his reach covering for the vandals a warrior no ill looked like he was there he just had to look over the outside shoulders to the inside shoulder and uh and he looked over his outside shoulder a little bit quicker he could have caught it but uh well the adjustment a little too late bengals have three more rolls of the dice here they're up 14-3 7 32 to go first and goal second and goal from the six and the handoff to hunter and he gets down to about the four the tackle defensively by christian ellis another one of those idaho linebackers there you go that family tree is deep in moscow and they're good are they ever third and goal from the four now for isu rango back in at tailback with just over seven minutes left to go on the quarter idaho state trying to add to its 14-3 lead you want to see seven here but you don't want to force a bad throw take three if you have to van der waal with time dancing now time running out rolling right firing back of the end zone incomplete it is fourth and goal from the six and the bengals will take a shot at three as kevin ryan comes out with number 11 hunter hayes who will hold for him and ryan will attempt a field goal you know bengals are going to be disappointed with not getting seven there i mean obviously as they should but uh you know in the past we've seen them force throws throw interceptions there and we'll take three points over zero points any day of the week ryan from 22 the kickers up and hit the post there you go kevin ryan now four of eight field goals on the year and the ball goes over to the vandals and the bengals come up stone cold empty well i think that one's my fault [Music] [Music] so the vandals take over and with that change of possession we've got a time out the score with 6 41 to go in the second quarter isu 14 the university of idaho vandals three back in a moment with more bengal football on pluto tv and the bengal broadcast network my 14-3 isu on top 6 41 to go here and quarter number two johnson the tailback again we haven't seen romano since early in the first quarter bengal shifting around defensively both teams changing their look up too after yep beaudry straight drop now he'll step up and run as the black jerseys converge on him he gets out across the 25 to the 27. that's a seven yard gain and will bring up second and three good read by beaudry 6 20 and running on the clock vandals looking to get more points on the board before they go to the locker room at halftime and beaudry under pressure fires incomplete ball falls to the turf untouched out of the 45. jerry i think that's nikhil nayer number six in a quarterback right now i think you're right yeah we have to apologize it's uh gold on white and it's really hard to see but [Music] those colors don't go well from looking at a distance but i believe it is number six so the new quarterback nickel nayar stops fires into the turf at the 30-yard line and it'll be fourth and three mayor short-armed that pack and petrino noticeably frustrated with that drive with that series so neither team is doing well on its most recent possession and i saw just a minute ago one of the idaho vandal players that looked like beaudry going into the locker room i don't know if he has either had a struggled a little bit throwing the ball or if he got shook up when osha trujillo hit him but i haven't seen him coffee to punt away and this one a low line drive bounces at the 35 rango runs away from it and it'll be down near the isu 15 yard line right there on the 15. that's a heck of a punt makes you wonder if he punted it that short intentionally to get that roll could have been the line of scrimmage was the 27 yard line it goes all the way to the 15 at the other end that is a 59 yard net punt that is a heck of a kick they don't call them all americans for nothing jerry he knew exactly what to do on that forced rango to run away from it by but he he's a magician with putting the right spin on that ball especially with a low kick bengals start out at their own 15 yard line two back set back in motion vanderwaal gives to rango and he bounces off of a blocker and tackler gets about two yards on the play and christian ellis there again to slow him down [Music] second down from the 17-yard line for isu five and a half minutes left to go in the first half bengals up 14-3 university of idaho doubling tanner connor now you know he had a great first quarter but just like every other team they faced this season vanderwaal little screen pass out of the backfield up the right side and near the first down marker rango making the catch ellis making the tackle the bengals looking at third and about three from their own 22. that time fair to using uh tanner connor as a little decoy running a slant route to try to pull the defense in and then run a little screen in behind him ellis just made a great he just snuck in between all the blockers to make the play you know taran kerry missed him completely couldn't even see him and save the first down under five minutes left to go on the half van der waal with pressure fires it is caught across midfield number 84 for idaho state is jeff harris with his first catch of the game and that was a great throw i mean you couldn't have put it in a better spot for that kid to make the catch you know he has the receiver the defender right on top of him and i mean just a perfect ball placement by tyler vanderwaal he came to play today jerry with that completion vanderwaal is 11 of 15 for 215 yards bengals with another mountain america credit union first down in vandal territory and vanderwaal in trouble but gets the ball away to the near side flags go down tanner connor goes out of bounds inside the 35 but boy three flags went down something was obvious and it's going to go against isu the magic from tyler vanderwaal there on that play to to see the pressure in his face know exactly where tanner connor was and make the throw was all taken away by the holding penalty conor faked the handoff rolled to his right and saw a tsunami of white jerseys right in front of him i don't know how he got that ball away he did but the holding penalty brings it all back but it will bring it back from the spot of the foul so it goes back just three yards from the line of scrimmage and it is first down and 13 from the vandal 48 yard line as the bengals get the down over again with 408 to go raiden hunter at tailback van der waal with time rolling and in the grasp and spun to the turf back of the 40-yard line another sack for the vandals the big 320 pounder number 98 jonah kim kim i thought he had him beat to the outside and he just stuck out the big bear pong grabbed the grabbed his jersey and swung him down that was a great play i'm not sure i think that was the second sack of the day by the vandals who only had three coming into the game but now you go from first down to second and 22. vanderwaal to throw again under pressure he does incomplete over the middle and there is one upset receiver for the bengals number 15 christian frederickson one of what was called the dig route and he saw vanderwaal in trouble and just stopped his route thinking that he was uh he was going to run back to the outside and he just should have kept running on his route yep he'd have been right on the ball or vice versa 317 to go clock stopped on the incomplete pass third and 22 for idaho state from the bengal 43 they don't want to turn over here vanderwaal under pressure fires incomplete again this tie behind frederickson who was running a streak down the left sideline outside the numbers and so the vandal defense holds again unit comes on the defense's best friend jerry silly penalties there you go two silly penalties in the last two drives of costa bengals uh first down and a continuation of the drive and uh the vandals just chomping at the bit to get back out there with their offense kevin points punch it away this is a wobbler that will bounce and take an isu roll will they get to it yes the bengals down it inside the five-yard line and a very nice kick by kevin ryan who had to feel the low snap on that play and kicked it away from the return man and then it bounced and rolled in favor of the bengals who were able to get down there just in time to fall on it at the two yard line and that's where idaho will start out at its own two and now you've got number six and then playing in his second football game second drive from the one yard line he'll be interested to see how he responds nikail nayar hands it off up the middle to the five yard line romano back in the game on the carry so it is second and seven from the five and the clock running just over two and a half minutes to go here in the first half isu leading idaho 14-3 [Music] give again up the middle very close to a first down it is enough out to the 13. big david rowe getting in the backfield again for the for the idaho state bengals forcing the run to go a little wider to the left than they wanted it to be but no linebackers there for the bengals and first down for the vandals first down idaho at the vandal 13 darian greenen on the tackle for the bengals [Music] who now just bring a three-man rush and the pass complete to the 15 the receiver spins tries to get outside makes a five-yard effort out of it catrell haywood gets out to the 18 clock running minute 45 to go it is second and five vandals [Music] going a little hurry up here trying to get points on the board before halftime quick hand off and romano gets across the 20 to the 21. that's johnson check it out so it is third down from the 21. big play for the bengals here you want to stop the drive you don't want the vandals to keep getting first downs over and over again you know first second third down [Applause] johnson the tail back he'll take the ball and bull his way right to the first down marker but that they stopped him short but the second effort there weren't enough black jerseys there to keep pushing him backwards and the second effort he got the first down and a timeout called [Music] the vandals used their last timeout here in the first half as they convert the first down [Music] and now have a first down at their own 24 yard line nope right to the 23. once again they've got 77 yards to go to get points on the board with 103 left to go here in the first half to make it happen the bengals two touchdowns came on their first two drives of the game and then the vandals getting a field goal in quarter number two you know fans getting the flu shot doesn't just prevent you from getting the flu it helps protect the people around you get in touch with your health care provider or local pharmacy for an appointment or a walk-in vaccination availability this message brought to you by the idaho immunization program vandals have a first and ten mayor throws it is caught and scampering up the left sideline and stepping out of bounds at the 30-yard line is conor whitney the tight end he gets seven yards on the play it'll be second down and three from the 30. 56 seconds to go new york fires over the middle almost intercepted at the 48-yard line the ball in and out of the hands of the bengal defender and again that was jaden dawson who's had a couple go in and out of his hands today idaho running four verticals they were trying to get a play down the field and they are just forcing the ball there and jayden dawson should have had the interception third down three to go nayer forced to roll right he fires the pass broken up by o'shea trujillo again intended for catrell haywood and the vandals look at fourth and three from their own 30 with 45 seconds to go malachi rango will go deep for idaho state and cave coffee in for idaho he's back on his 15. fourth and three vandals so that's how you want to break up a pass jerry secure the tackle with the left hand and then swipe with the right hand that way if he catches it you can still make the play coffee's kick a high floater rango calls a fair catch and takes it at the 31 and the bengals have 37 seconds to try to make something happen here and put more points on the board for the black and orange so if you're the bengals here jay who you going for who you passing it to well you've already had some big plays from connor but you've already pointed out that idaho is now double teaming him and so that leaves frederickson and guillory or harris or you could even throw out of the backfield rango's pretty good in the open field bengals have a first and ten of their own 31 they're up 14-3 37 seconds to go in the half toss to the outside complete and run out of bounds tight end michael davis oh excuse me not davis that's nate shubert davis is 88 isu trying to get a couple yards and stop the clock second down from the 36. van der waal to throw he unloads incomplete on the near sideline that was frederickson again the intended receiver looked like timing once again was just a little bit mixed up he had the ball through it right where it needed to be and looked like fredriksen was not expecting it he tried to get up in the air in a hurry third and five bengals two wives each side wide side of the field to the left vanderwaal takes it four-man rush forced to roll right he'll tuck it now fire deep up the right sideline and complete clean defense on the play tanner connor was the intended receiver and i give a lot of credit to the defensive back on that play or linebacker whoever was covering him great it was great coverage by the defensive back jerry but even better pressure by the defensive front you know when you blitz with when you go after the quarterback with four guys and you have six guys to block them you don't want them to get to the quarterback and they still they're they're winning the matchups even though they're outnumbered they're winning getting pressure on him and forcing a tough throw kevin ryan on to punt catrell walker ryan keeps it and gets a wobbly kick away as he's hit it is recovered by the vandals i believe even if isu got it they did not get enough for a first down [Music] [Applause] they're fighting under the pile but it really doesn't matter at this point jerry it's idaho ball right there and they have 11 seconds now to put three more points or even seven points up on the board so i don't know if i put the commentator curse on that one by thinking about what would be the worst thing that could happen here well it wasn't quite the worst for the bengals but the vandals end up with the ball on a muffed punt [Music] and i couldn't really tell i thought ryan could have gotten a kick away i think he saw the pressure and felt it and panicked a little bit but i think if he stepped up you could see there the punter has to trust it is [Music] there you go first and ten vandals and you've got 11 seconds but you have to trust that your blockers are going to be there and nick lariva was standing there he was the running back the up back there that was going to push that defender outside his objective is to push him outside so that ryan can step up and kick it and he did just that but because ryan tried to scramble with it on the outside he pushed him right into where ryan was going and that made things even more complicated for the punter nikhil nayer in a quarterback and relief of mike beaudry has 11 seconds you think the vandals i mean why not go for it at this stage you've probably got enough time for two long plays you could take a shot here or you could try to get they're probably gonna have a deep option and a short option on this play three wides left one right nair three-step drop steps up rolls left feels pressure fires it's caught just short of the first down marker on the far side at the 30-yard line an 8-yard pickup receiver on that play was nick romano curious not to see idaho bring out the field goal unit here looks like they're going to go for six [Music] four seconds on the clock vandals have no timeouts idaho state does though and the bengals use it which gives coach petrino the opportunity to rethink a potential field goal well i'm sitting here looking at you have jake mcginnis big jake mcguinness he's the big run defending nose guard for the bengals but he's not really a pass rusher at this point you want to get in your three best pass rushers or four best pass rushers to get pressure on the quarterback pressure on the quarterback is going to be crucial here for the bengals if you can get pressure on the quarterback it's going to force a difficult throw which will more than likely prevent the touchdown but looks like idaho did rethink it and they're going to kick a fill call there you go and is that coffee it is coffee it looks like lining up at the 36 so it'll be a 46-yard attempt coffee's longest of the year is 36 yards logan prescott the other kicker has nailed the 47-yarder but this one for the vandals with five seconds on the clock they've added one will be from 46 yards on the left hash he's a confident kicker and this one is up it is good and the vandals have put three more on the board going into the locker room and there's a meeting on the field between players from both sides and the coaches have to run out on the field and drag o'shea trujillo and ken and smith away from that little gathering which was getting bigger by the second but that brings us to the end of half number one your score after 30 minutes of college football in the pulte arena at cache of field in pocatello idaho the bengals of idaho state university leading the 24th ranked vandals of the university of idaho at the half by a score of 14 to six we'll take a break and come back with some halftime numbers and scores and more after these messages on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv wherever you go [Music] so [Music] oh get the help you need when you need it [Music] here's jerry miller welcome back as idaho kicks off cade coffee puts one to the one yard line and malachi rango called a fair catch and the bengals will start out at their own 25-yard line boy has that rule change impacted college football in a big way yeah if their objective was to reduce the number of hits on the head during the play i think they've accomplished that you know you make the reward worth it and uh you're you're seeing the results of it right here all right bengals up 14-6 have a first down of their own 25-yard line vanderwaal to throw on first down he goes over the middle it's complete out to the 37-yard line on the receiving end tanner connor his fifth catch of the day and the bengals have another mountain america credit union first down after a 12-yard gain great pitch and catch once again tanner connor was double-teamed you know he's going to have a guy underneath him and over the top of him pretty much the whole game you know he's the best threat for the bengals and you're going to see that a lot bengals going in a hurry rango takes the handoff and manages to lose about two yards as trey walker just gobbled him up behind the line of scrimmage ball goes back to the 35 for a loss of two second and 12. how you tell a good backer right there um if the plays that you make are five yards six yards you know you're probably a good backer but not a great one he's a great backer the plays he makes are always in the back builder at the line of scrimmage third and 12 or second at 12. vanderwaal feeling pressure fires into the vandal bench he had a receiver over there but threw way above his head he just felt the walls caving in around him yeah he did he had malachi rango the running back coming out of the backfield but and he was open looked like the idaho guy responsible for him they were in cover zero had missed him and uh would have had a first down but the pressure in his face force a high throw third and 12. [Applause] [Music] van der waal out of the pistol two wides left looks left all the way fires incomplete out of bounds over both the defender and receiver christian frederickson the intended receiver another miscommunication there covering was warrior no ill i don't know if it was a timing question or a route question or what it was but looks like tyler vanderwaal and christian erickson are just not quite on the same page and it's carried over to the second there was definitely a pressure question for vanderwaal again on that play and the second half starting exactly as the vandals wanted to go as the bengals have to punt this away on their first possession a beautiful driving spiral taken at the 15-yard line and down at the 20 is number seven for the mandrels catrell walker covering for idaho state and the pokey native colton belknap they're a special team star from pocatello high school on the on the kickoff coverage her punk coverage vandals start out after the punt at their own 20-yard line [Music] they trail by eight 14 to six we saw mike beaudry play about one and a half quarters for them and he is still on on the sidelines nikhil nayar at qb [Music] looked a little flustered in the first half hands off here and romano i think either romano or johnson gets two yards out to the 22 second down and eight and great job there by johnson to force a missed tackle by uh osher trujillo but great pursuit there by conor wills to make the play 13 25 left to go just under way here in quarter number three vandals first possession of the half they trail 14 to 6. and near hands it off and a nice carry just short of the first down [Music] for dylan thigpen and that stick then he was in on the last play too as hard as like i said it's hard to see those numbers but uh um a great run you know i thought you're going to see a lot more running game here from the university of idaho where at the end of the last quarter they were struggling to get a passing game going third and about six inches to go for the vandals [Applause] under center they are back to throw up the left right side it is incomplete looks like you have a holding in the backfield too yep nader wanted i believe hatton was the intended receiver he wanted a flag on the play [Music] number 24 johnson holding onto trujillo he came free off the edge [Music] so the bengals declined the penalty and the vandals look at fourth down and about six inches to go this is one of those tough play calls i mean yeah it seems simple but it's fourth and short what if they run a quick little fake or something up the middle and it looks like they're gonna go for it so they might regret it the bengals substitute [Music] to load the front it is fourth down and inches for the vandals at their own 30-yard line mayor under center mayor hands it off and the vandals get the first down near the 31-yard line they gambled and rolled a 7 and 11. either one take your pick they got it and got the first down on fourth and inches you know those are the tough decisions to make you know looking back now i guarantee you coach finn wishes he would have taken the penalty but had idaho punted it would have been the right call first down vandals at their own 31. they started this drive at their own 20. nader to throw he's hit as he unloads and broken up on the near sideline rasheed williams a linebacker on coverage there jerry out in the flat this time when they i told you that they were releasing or running back to the flat because the bengals have showed that they were struggling and coverage there i mean it definitely helps that ocean trujillo gets pressure on the qb but great coverage in the flat that time by rashid second and ten vandals from their thirty one they are at quarterback tight wing formation tossed to the near side incomplete catrell haywood the intended receiver and its third and ten vandals from their own 31. this is not the situation that the vandals want to be in they want to run the ball get second and five third and short especially with the way cubies struggling right now with pressure in his face this is a big test for the the young qb making a second appearance this season idaho three wives left one right as they go left to right and the handoff nowhere loss of two yards on the play nick romano the tailback is dropped in the backfield for a loss of two yards and it's fourth and twelve at the vandal 29. great play call calm pressure to get pressure in the qb's face and they happen to blitz blitz right into a draw play cave coffee who has been the biggest weapon the vandals have had today is out on his 14-yard line rango deep for the bengals as coffee punts and drives rango back wrangle lets it go and it will bounce and roll out of bounds at the five yard line of well isuzu a weapon jerry you know forcing an offense to go 100 yards every time they have the ball the way rango had lined up for that punt i just thought it was a much worse gamble to try to catch that ball over your shoulder because that's what he would had to have done and a fumble on a punt right there would have been disastrous so how far was that punch jerry well let's see the line of scrimmage was the 29 and they get it down to the five dr peterson that punt my coffee was 66 yards unbelievable we'll take a break bengal ball when we come back isu up 14-6 we'll be back after this 30-second timeout on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv up 14-6 ready to take its second possession of the half fans mountain cold refreshment made to chill brought to you by 2021 coors brewing company golden colorado reminding you to celebrate responsibly bengals have a first down at their own five yard line raiden hunter the tailback tyler vanderwaal at qb standing on the goal line in pistol formation he'll hand it off to hunter who looked for a hole on the left side and gets about one and a half maybe two yards out to the seven and trey walker right there boy he's putting notches into his belt today we give and we give him a lot of love jay and deservedly so he's excellent but up front those big linemen are preventing the double teams from climbing to the next level he's having free shots all across the board you know he he deserves a lot of credit but so do those guys up front hunter's still in it tailback vanderwaal hands it off again and hunter trying to burst over the right side is pushed back he will get just short of the 10 yard line it'll be third and five covering on the play chris ellis that other extremely talented linebacker third and five from the 10 for the bengals who desperately with just a one score lead need a first down here they don't want kevin ryan punting out of the end zone rango in a tailback now two receivers split to each side vanderwaal fires it is intercepted at the 15 yard line vanderwaal trying to hit xavier guillory and warrior noel made the pick he knew that was coming just jumped jumped the route and stepped in front of guillory to make the interception and the vandals forced their first turnover well i guess if you count that muff punt at the end of the first half they forced the second isu turnover the first one on downs and the vandals have the ball first down at the isu 15 yard line and here you have a sudden change jerry this is where defenses have to step up the most right here because all the momentum is in the favor of the offense if the defense can shut him down it shuts down all that momentum beaudry's back in at quarterback the give to romano he goes left and finds a hole and gets inside the 10-yard line defending for the bengals jacob jones idaho going hurry up here to catch idaho set off second and four from the bengal nine for the vandals who are looking for their first touchdown of the day and beaudry hands it off again and this dive up the middle short of the first down at the bengal six [Music] johnson on the carry that time third and one for the vandals at the six yard line beaudry back in the game after the turnover and he'll hand it off no he'll keep it and go in untouched and the vandals just need a two-point conversion to tie this game they trail 14-12 with 901 to go as beaudry gets the first idaho touchdown of the game [Applause] beaudry at 6'5 245. i think that was still nick near jerry number six was it mayor yeah and he's still in there going for two on this it was neher if you're idaho you don't want to go away from the run here though your run is your bread and butter mayor's first rushing touchdown of the year he wants to throw he pumps fires it is broken up at the goal line intended for walker and the bengal defense connor wills breaks it up and isu will be on the receiving end of the kickoff after we take a time out idaho state 14 university of idaho 12 more bengal football coming up in a moment on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv reception of a tyler vanderwaal pass at the isu 15 yard line the vandals go into the end zone three plays later on a six yard carry by nikail nair you see how special teams can affect the game now punt the two-point conversion failed and again a special team i guess you would call it shortfall there vandals still down by two but only two this kick into the end zone and a fair catch called for and taken by rango and the bengals start first and 10 at their own 25 but mitch after being up 14 nothing they've now given up 12 straight as a matter of fact three scores in a row by the vandals and this drive for isu starts with 901 left to go here in quarter number three the bengals need to get something going offensively even if it's not a touchdown at least three points you want to drive it down the field take a little bit of time off the clock get a little bit of momentum and get a little bit of uh of uh confidence rango in motion toss to the far side and it looked like the receiver was held up at the line and vanderwaal goes down holding his knee he gets up and tries walking it off and i don't think that looks very good at all there's a flag over on the far sideline it'll be a penalty a defensive holding penalty against the vandals okay a neutral zone infraction thank you ryan i can't hear the official very well with my headset on either because we don't get the referee's mic here in the broadcast booth so it is now first and five from the 30 for isu and vanderwaal stays in although he was limping he'll hand it off and rango gets two yards three we'll call it out to the 33. trey walker there he is again once again a lot of credit to the guys up front i mean they're taking two blockers they are big mean dudes and they're tough to push around and the idaho state offensive front struggling right now to get those guys to move whether it's because they're winded because the d-line is always rotating or not second down from the 33 for the bengals van vanderwaal hands it off again rango's on the run he breaks a tackle he's at midfield and he is down in vandal territory at the university of idaho 48 yard line tackled by warrior noel and the bengals have a first down across midfield an obvious frustration from the isu number 54 toronto losing his helmet yeah but it was an obvious face mask i mean you can see it on the replay i saw it on the play an obvious face mess he pushed his guy he reached back pulled his helmet off of his of his head so he has to come out yep and a handoff to raiden hunter and hunter inside the 45 to the 44-yard line for a five-yard gain it is second and five bengals four yard pickups second and six of scrimmage was the 48 and isu earned a little counter play to try to get the linebackers out of position and so far they're getting a few yards off of it raiden hunter comes out at tailback and vanderwaal on second and six lines up under center both tied in shubert and davis go to the right wing pitch durango he throws back to vanderwaal he fires up the field broken up and intercepted [Applause] two interceptions on two possessions [Music] and the pass picked off by jackson dawson number 16 a redshirt sophomore from seattle at the vandal 35 yard line a little trick play there but you know great discipline from the idaho vinyl defense they read it the whole way played up about on top of the crossing routes as they should have and led the play drove on the route made the interceptions that was just a great play great defense and very disciplined vanderwaal on a flea flicker throws his second pick of the day and the vandals with mayor at qb now will try to put together a scoring drive to go ahead and johnson carries on first down out to the 42-yard line good for seven yards you're going to see a lot of running here a lot of different ways to run power a lot of different ways to run short sweep is what they call it you'll see all kinds of different running plays here from the vandals to try to move the ball down the field slowing methodically take time off the clock and get some points on the board mayor from the pistol fires to the outside incomplete intended on the far side for catrell haywood o'shea trujillo on coverage the pass off the mark haywood had to spin and only could get a hand up and deflect the ball away it is third down and three yards to go for the vandals from their own 42. big play here for both teams [Applause] and it is a give to johnson he goes left and gets the first down with a second effort as he gets to the 48-yard line darion green again in on the tackle but not in time watching the game right now jerry if you watch the two fronts you're going to see that idaho just wants a little bit more than idaho state and that's what's making the big difference in the game right now vandals controlling the third quarter [Music] mayor qb from the pistol wants to throw out to the left the pass incomplete the receiver had it right in both hands and o'shea trujillo hit him and popped it out that was hatton good read there by trujillo getting to the flat not falling for the cheese and on the inside route trusting that his inside backer was going to be there and getting to the flat quickly second and ten vandals at their own 48 yard line two receivers split to each side one tail back [Music] bengals bring the blitz right up the middle they are in trouble pass incomplete no it is complete it is caught by hatton bengals had two men there and couldn't stop the play vandals doing just enough right now vandals have it at the isu 43 yard line first down third down and one and it's a loose ball and i think the bengals have it catrell haywood had that ball and had it stripped away and the bengals pick it up that's ramo tremino that's the momentum shift that the vandals don't want and that's the momentum shift that the bengals desperately need at this time right now you have a sudden change in the game you know i said the same thing about the bengal defense well the vandal defense has a chance to make a big stop here and keep the momentum on their side and the bengal offense has a huge opportunity here to put the ball in the end zone and have all the momentum going with them okay they are going to review this play and we'll see if we can watch a replay of it as well on pluto tv [Music] to see if he had possession of it [Music] i'm not sure he did have possession i think he bobbled that ball from the time it hit him [Music] if the call is upheld and they give the ball to isu that would be the first lost fumble of the year for idaho [Music] you can't tell from that angle as we watched the replay but the first angle on the camera that we saw the question is is there enough to overturn the call if i were in the booth yes i would say catrell never really had control of it that ball was bouncing on his shoulder behind the line of scrimmage though well that may if that's behind the line of scrimmage was it a backwards throw backwards though not behind the thank you not behind the line of scrims but was it a backwards throw too yeah so a couple different things looks like the offense is going on the field looks like it was incomplete so it is the call is overturned and haywood never had control is the ruling so it is second and ten vandals crowd doesn't like it but i think the referees in the replay booth made the right call second down from the isu 43 yard line 5 29 to go we have a flag on the opposing team sideline fourth down and about a yard to go and there is a flag on the other side sideline warning against the vandals just a warning not a penalty so no changing down or distance so really no effect of the play at all fourth and one [Music] vandals have already succeeded here today they are one for one on fourth down out of the power eye formation johnson the tailback tight end lines up behind the guard to give to johnson he's got a first down i think i'm pretty sure he does looks like he got inside the 42. opposing sideline is marking him enough for our first down yep first down vandals and that's all they need you just needed half a foot a foot maybe and they got it and the vandals continue the drive it looks like they're going to measure oh wow you know a difficult angle from here where we're sitting in the box kind of tough to tell but you know it looks like you got it the field judge on this side ran out and signaled that it was a first down but he's on the near side and the chains are on the far side they got it by the length of the football first down vandals so idaho continues the drive this drive started at the vandal 35 yard line after they intercepted tyler vanderwaal for the second time in the game today vandals are now two of two on fourth down conversions today [Music] mayor is just four of 16 throwing the ball since he has come in in relief of beaudry he will hand it off nope he is hit as he unloads and this ball is incomplete inside the five-yard line [Music] so that's a tough play to defend they had an inside tight end that was blocking they ran what's called an outside release route and the tight end just released and he's it's tough to find a guy like that well drawn up play by the offensive staff from the vandals i was watching the deep receiver so was idaho stadium underneath that's a tough play it's just i mean you see that play a lot in the nfl [Music] and the bengals continue to compound their own troubles with another personal foul a 15-yard penalty for a late hit or at least half the distance to the goal line on ramo trevino and that gives the vandals first down at the isu six yard line first and goal and the vandals trying to take their first lead of the game and the gift to the tailback johnson and he's hit at the five he gets about one more yard to the four inside the five yard line we'll call it a gain of two second and goal from the four and that's why you carry out your fakes if you look at the quarterback uh nickname or there he carried out his fake and actually drew a couple isu defenders out with him [Music] kids at home if you're a quarterback and your coach tells you to carry out a fake always do it there's a reason behind it out of the power eye second and goal from the four mayor to throw he does broken up in the end zone good discipline there by jacob jones good coverage a lot of times it's hard when you're that close to not want to go make a play on the run and to stay in coverage on your guy and that time he did it was great coverage third and goal from the four for the [Music] vandals [Music] vandals only six of 15 in third down situations today their coaches running up the sidelines and petrino wants a timeout [Applause] and he was livid again out there on the field at the numbers at about the 18-yard line timeout vandals their first of the half with 417 to go in a third quarter wow [Music] with that we will remind you as you all know smoking and vaping absolutely reduce lung capacity and increase the risk and severity of respiratory diseases including covet 19. if you'd like free help to quit for you or someone you love or know go online to visit and visit projectfilter.org project filter dot o-r-g well the third quarter has been all vandals they trail 14-12 [Music] but now lead in first downs 14 to 12. the big trick here jerry is look at the time of possession i can't see it right now on the live stats but i can imagine that the time of possession in the third quarter it's almost yeah in the third quarter it's not broken down for us but the vandals now trail in time of possession well by two minutes looks like they had about three minutes in their favor in the first half so they've lost five minutes in this quarter that's a big deal when your offense has the ball for five extra minutes of the game that's a lot more plays and a lot more opportunities to put the ball in the end zone third and goal for the vandals from the four yard line in a huddle at the 10. again being switched up for today's game as the bengals switch sidelines and move to the south side they are at quarterback with one tail back two receivers wide right johnson the tailback [Music] end on the right nair wants to throw he pumps pumps and fires it is almost picked off at the goal line again intended for catrell haywood it is fourth and goal at the four yard line he had a lot of green grass in front of him there jerry i'm surprised he just didn't keep it and try to score the touchdown but as a quarterback your job especially in the idaho d offense is to throw the ball he was trying to make a play with his arm and you can't blame him for that idaho trying to settle for three points coffee for a 21-yard field goal that would give the vandals the lead the snap the kick the points and idaho goes ahead 15-14 with 405 to go and quarter number three the kickoff to isu in a moment on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv [Applause] [Music] we'll start first and ten he dropped it he did one yard line [Music] just another mistake another simple mistake that cost the bengals what is that there that's a 25-yard mistake jerry i mean that's not a penalty but it's a mistake and those are the kind of mistakes that uh allow you to lose big rivalry football games rango called for a fair catch on the kickoff dropped the football it would have been fine had he picked it up but he his knee touched the ground when he knelt down and picked it up [Music] raiden hunter the tailback and the bengals and a huge hole right now trailing for the first time have a first down at their own nine-yard line and vanderwaal on a sneak up the middle gets out to the four yard line good call there just to get a little bit of space i mean that's no space to work at all and with how much pressure that the vandal d-line has been putting on the qb and the running back in the backfield with uh and earlier this quarter we saw vanderwaal get hurt he never came out of the game he limped it off he's out of the pistol now a yard deep in the end zone on second and seven he hands it off and hunter gets out across the five to the seven yard line for a three yard game it'll be third down from there third and four [Applause] 3 20 left to go in quarter number three [Applause] idaho state trailing the vandals 15 to 14. tanner connor goes slot left and you see the safety follow wherever he goes sitting on top of him smart move by the vandals tight ends go double wing right side and vanderwaal fires over the middle incomplete and the linebacker was all over tanner connor's back on that play and no flag that was very similar to the play that osher trujillo made earlier on the idaho vandal receiver christian ellis the linebacker just a good play so it is fourth down for the bengals from the seven and after what we've seen here in the third quarter you have no idea what to expect from kevin ryan in the end zone about seven yards deep if you're idaho you're going for the block here not a lot of confidence in your offense but one thing i'll say idaho's offense has been on the field a lot as has the bengal defense ryan starting to get tired driving haywood back to the 42. he gets to the 45 out of bounds and the bengals will be lucky if there's that there's not a flag on that as one of the defenders tried to hit haywood after he was a good yard out of bounds and just brushed him i think that's why they didn't call the flag i think he tried to pull up a little bit at the last second that's why he brushed him instead of hitting him which is a smart move because had he made contact there that was for sure another 15 yard penalty and another chance for the bengals to stab themselves in the foot shoot themselves in the foot whatever you say i don't know what to stab themselves in the back shoot themselves in the foot whatever it is well for isu it's been a comedy of errors since the end of the second quarter or near the end vandals on top first down to their own 49 mayor fires out to the left it's caught by haywood and he gets inside isu territory down to the bengal 47 for a four-yard game where he's brought down by o'shea trujillo and this is exactly what they want to do exactly what idaho wants to do they want four yards to play four yards of play whether it's on the ground or just little chippy tosses exactly mayor hands this one off and then four more yards there you go four more yards they're at 12 yards so isu's gonna have to change something up here to get a little more pressure on him vandals have it third down two yards to go at the isu 43 and even as a young sophomore backup they are now in a much better position as opposed to third and long which he was looking at often in the second quarter when he first came in and he'll fire over the middle that is complete caught and held on jacob has read that all the way jerry he read it he saw it he broke on the ball to go make a play and that was just a great catch by hatton i mean you can see why he's their top receiver he was a tight end until this year he moved from tight end to a wide receiver position and he's showing you why first down vandals at the isu 36. they are to throw on first down he'll go deep he's going for it all and it is incomplete incomplete in the end zone good coverage there by the young freshman josh alford idaho taking a shot there trying to build confidence with their qb pretty fairly good ball but good coverage it looks kind of like a pass interference because he's getting a little bit contact but if you look at the last second it looks like he looks to make a play on the ball and they're not going to call that i think hatton was the intended receiver on that he's got six catches on the day second down vandals from the bengal 36. this time neyer on a keeper [Applause] and he is tattooed by kennen smith just across the line of scrimmage and a bengal is down at the 41 yard line looks like rainbow trevino i couldn't tell if he was grabbing his knee or pointing at his calf two very different injuries it is ramo trevino 57 seconds left to go in the third quarter no gain on that play by neher so it brings up third and 10 for the vandals as the training staff from isu tends to trevino here it looks like we're in four down territory so look to see idaho maybe try to get a small a short little gain to make a fourth down more manageable vandals said two wide left one to the near side mayer wants to throw he rares and fires way over the head of catrell haywood who is coming back toward the play and he threw it all the way up to the 15 yard line on the bengals side of the ball so looking at fourth and 10 [Music] no field goal attempt here cabe coffee will go out and stand on the 50-yard line to try to punt this one as we used to call it pooch it and get it somewhere inside the 10-yard line look at him to kick at one of the one of the pillars one of the cones of the corner of the end zone coffee with a wobbler rango lets it go into the end zone bengals lucked out on that one as coffee who we've seen his magic already today with a kick or two that have either gone straight up in the air after hitting the turf or literally bouncing backwards it's all about how the ball lands i mean you can see on pluto tv how he kicks it he kicks it so it's rotating backwards if the ball lands anywhere on one of his tips or in a certain way on one of the flat sides of the ball it's going to bounce and go straight up that time it just happened to hit just perfect well the good news for the bengals is they're not starting out on their one yard line [Music] the bad news they've now given up 15 points in a row vanderwaal to throw on first down he goes deep for tanner connor he's got it completion down inside the 30-yard line of the vandals and in one play the bengals [Applause] [Music] have struck big time taken advantage of josh jones so they got the momentum now now you want to see exactly what you want to see what they're going to do to to try to take advantage of it a 49-yard pass play and a first down isu at the vandal 26. van der waal to throw again to the right all alone complete and out of bounds inside the 10 yard line nate schubert the tight end just running a little will route the receiver bit on the inside route leaving hubert wide open earth not the receiver the cornerback schubert was so alone he was getting ready to go on to a dating site well you look at who is you look at who was on the outside of schubert when he ran the wheel route tanner connor tanner connor's the outside receiver schubert's in the slot there tanner connor ran a slant shubert ran in behind him everyone's going to look at tanner connor leaving shubert wide open bengals have it first and goal we played three quarters they trailed 15-14 back in a moment on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv jerry miller we played three in idaho state down by one point with a first and goal at the university of idaho six yard line vandals have scored 15 unanswered points to come from a 14-0 deficit to a 15-14 advantage but in three plays idaho state has gone from its own yard line to the vandal six malachi ranga was in at tailback tyler vanderwaal all the way for the bengals at quarterback 16 of 29 but two picks on the day he's been sacked twice no interceptions or two interceptions and sacked twice no touchdown passes connor in a slot right christian frederickson connor in motion give up the middle rango on a surge gets down to the two-yard line [Music] gain of three they'll spot it at the three second down and goal for the bengals good stop there but that's the amount of yards that they need to keep this thing going third down and nothing doing up the middle going to their most productive play points wise little quarterback sneak maybe maybe from the one yard line but uh from the three now the bengals have a third and goal they ran it a little bit differently because idaho was uh covering up the center like that but they were ready for it good discipline again by the vandal defense bengals need a rabbit out of the hat vanderwaal keeps it again and gets down to the three-yard line and that's it inside the three but it is fourth and goal and here comes kevin ryan and the field goal unit it's tough you want seven points and it's unfortunate that they didn't get it but you gotta take the points here and knock on wood for the bengals this will be about a 22-yard attempt for ryan and the kick is up and good and the bengals regain the lead they go ahead by two 17-14 17-15 rather with 13 35 to go the kickoff to the university of idaho vandals who were down by two coming up after this on the bengal broadcast network and pluto tv [Music] is [Applause] [Music] as the bengals have now regained the lead by two going up 17-15 a sixth play 77-yard drive [Applause] ending with a field goal [Music] by kevin ryan a big shout out to ross the superfan jerry is he here he's here he's fully dressed and is killed in his paths getting the fans into it love it 1335 left to go david ollish with the ball teed up at the 35 yard line will kick off left to right to the vandals i believe catrell haywood is deep and this kick goes into the end zone where it'll be taken on a knee and the vandals come out on the touch back and the fair catch starting out at their own 25-yard line now remember if you need it be in the end zone right in the end zone there you go i think i want to learn that lesson the hard way who was the uh wide receiver from utah kailyn clay years ago that would cross the goal line without the ball yeah he threw all behind him on all his kicks celebrating and oregon ran it back for a touchdown yep under center on first down from the 25 for the vandals hands off to the tailback who lunges all the way out to the 30-yard line and that is big pen dylan thigpen he got five yards second and five from the 30. vandelson haywood wide right in a power i set with a full back up front play action and nare is popped a good one before he could let go of the ball darion green got him from behind they called it a fumble there jerry no big complete pass they just changed it so it is third and five big hit by darion green is you have haven't had a lot of pressure on quarterbacks in the past couple games looks like they're mixing things up a lot and then a few more linebackers than they have in the past seen a lot more pressures by ocean trujillo and darion green these last two weeks green looked like he was on a speed skating track coming in on that hit from behind third and five vandals near out of the pistol straight drop three steps fires incomplete [Applause] no flag on the play the hit by jaden dawson the intended receiver was nick romano clean hit jerry that's about as clean as it can be got his head across and hit with the shoulder pad really with his chest more than anything else it looks hard but in all reality it was clean well clean and hard are not exclusive they can be both yeah it kind of seems like lately if someone gets hit hard it is uh coffee for another long punt taken inside the 10-yard line by rango he'll try to cut it up and go down around the 7. he's lucky he did not lose that football and the bengals start out again in a hole which didn't stop them last time well i mean they started out at their own 25 but in three plays they were at the vandal six yard line i'm just blown away at this point of jerry over and over again you know you think you make a stop on their side of the field you think you're going to have good field position and then you end up with the ball inside your 10-yard line again i mean the kid's an all-american he's showing it today over and over again on the field and he's kicking deep field goals so credit to coffee vanderwaal on the toss to connor tanner breaks outside the numbers up the left sideline he's across the 35 and hauled down from behind brought down by number 16 jackson woodward a well-developed flanker reverse a play that they've been uh showing for a while now jerry they've been disguising him sending him disguising and then that play they gave it to him well drawn up by coach mike ferreter catching the vandals off guard 25 yard carry and flags on the play as the ball was snapped and they're going to call the eagle formation yep false start on isu 12 14 to go isu up 17-15 that five-yard penalty puts the ball back on the 28-yard line of the bengals and brings up a first in 15. [Music] give some more room to work right yeah i'm not sure they need it right here jerry rayden hunter is in a tailback van der waal to throw time fires a bullet over the middle to tanner connor and he pulls his way that was either conor or a tight end i think it was it was tanner connor and he's got enough to get back out across the 35. for a nine yard pickup bringing up second and along six he looks like a tight end jerry oh if there's a bengal on this team that has uh potential for some paychecks coming in from this sport tanner would be a guy here's a give to rango d he tries to get outside and is hit low and high defending on the play is jalen hoover hoover and deadman hit him high and low it looked like it was a helmet to helmet on the high hit that's just good discipline from the idaho defense it looked like he had the edge and when he got out to the edge it wasn't there anymore and filled the gap bengals go from the 40. give to hunter first down as he spun down out of the 48-yard line an eight-yard gain when they needed three and it's another mountain america credit union first down for the bengals [Applause] trey walker hauled him down first down bengals at their own 48. this is a good drive this is what the bengals need they don't need a aired out score on one play they need to give their defense some time to rest you know you look at an offense and so many people think an offense's purpose is to score touchdowns and jerry it's just obviously i mean the overall goal is to score touchdowns but there's so much more there's so many more components to the game than just scoring touchdowns and making stops and a lot of people forget about that right now the purpose of this drive is to not only get seven points on the board but to also give your defense a lot of time to rest those d linemen have been going non-stop for i mean what was it five extra minutes in the third quarter they need some time to rest they need some time to catch their breath and this is a perfect drive for that coming off the field for the vandals number 25 jalen hoover a senior out of brandon mississippi he was the one shaken up on the play and as we go back to that reverse that flanker reverse on the pitch to tanner connor it was a forward pitch so that would be term to pass would it not technically that's a pass play technically that is a pass a shovel passes what they call it right and in the game connor now with nine catches for 208 yards but that's a whole mantra for you know the vandals they they'll give up yards but they don't want you to get in the end zone if you look at the scoreboard it's working the only thing they can't do here is get in the ends on themselves and you know that speaks volumes for the isu defense versus what they gave up last week but also speaks volumes for the vandal defense and how well they're playing today bengals struck in a hurry on their last possession although they did have to settle for a field goal this drive starting out on their own eight yard line they're looking at first down at their own 48 right now with 10 32 to go isu on top 17 to 15. bengals end their spring season next week at weber state vanderwaal takes the snap back to throw pressure coming he fires complete over the middle jeff harris with the catch for a first down at the vandal 39 yard line perfect per out just putting receivers at different levels of the field to give out van der waals several different options to throw to man coverage man free coverage is what they call it perfect separation from harrison good throw by van der waal and vanderwaal again firing bbs he'll hand it off and raiden hunter goes left and is stopped short of the 35-yard line he gets a few yards not quite to the 36 and trey walker was the one that rejected the rest of that run there he is big number eight again two yard game they put it down on the 37 second and eight bengals in vandal territory you up by two 1715 they led 14 to nothing fell behind 15 14 and have gone back ahead and tried to extend that lead some more tossed to the running back of the near side rango breaks a tackle at the 40 and goes down near the 32 it's short of the first down but it will leave isu with a third and short and the tackle made by tyrese deadman third down from the 22. three manageable first down here for the bengals a big play here just outside of field goal range you're not going to want to kick a field goal after missing a shorter field goal earlier today so you're going to want to get a first it looks like to me like it's four down territory if i could make a guess third and three vanderwaal wants to throw he goes deep he's got a man [Applause] chris frederickson christian frederickson on the receiving end of that touchdown and one of those fabulous freshmen gets the first touchdown catch of the day for isu you know jerry third and short isu has ran quick hook routes curl routes slants out routes all day long and in that situation they showed a quick little hook route the defender bit it and really vanderwaal had his option a two wide receiver wide open wide receivers on that play frederickson's first td catch of the year and kevin ryan puts the extra point through the uprights with 8 32 to go the bengals go ahead by nine 24-15 to kick off in a moment on the bengal broadcast network here's an offer [Applause] [Music] hey police nick romano and roshan johnson [Music] it's up the road from pocatello and you love the rebound from van der waal too you know two interceptions in the third quarter and they come back and play well david olish puts this one short and the return by the vandals out to the 15 the 20 and romano gets to the 25-yard line and that's where the vandals will go first and 10 falling behind by nine now trailing 24-15 by the way that touchdown for the bengals their third of the day another 150 dollars to the bengal athletic booster program for athletic scholarships at isu on the day that's 450 dollars from idaho central credit union [Applause] to the bengal booster crop 24-15 vandals trail nader forced to roll right he looks up he fires it is the incomplete short intended for hatton who was running laterally across the field with two men in coverage good pressure by ken and smith there jerry it's tough to throw that deep down the field on the run like that and you know that's a tough door to make credit to the defensive line and the linebackers from isu and you can see when mayer has to run he is really chugging and he'll hand it off this time going wide right hurdling one tackler and getting out to the 35-yard line for a first down is rashaan johnson you see the receiver you see the safety coming in they want to hit you low they don't want to take you high and he just jumps right over him you see that more more in college football today jerry vandals with another first down they trail 24-15 750 left to go in regulation nader the qb mayor takes it straight drop now running to his right fires short and incomplete to haywood who is about four yards away from him running laterally with him toward the sideline he saw the he saw number 25. the football was coming at him and the numbers that he saw was 2-5 yeah you know that's a pass and i think uh you know even vandal fans would share with me that you know you wanted to bring that in and then take the hit but uh you know it's tough it's harder than it looks it really is second and ten vandals from their own 35 mayor hands it off again coming to the near side and romano stopped out around the 38-yard line after a three-yard pickup and there defensively connor wills making the first hit for the bengals and boy you talk about a guy that's going to be around for a while will's one of those return missionaries from rexburg idaho just a sophomore he's played a lot of football already has a lot of football to play left jerry coming out and empty so you're expecting heavy pass in this situation or some kind of a qb draw screenplay third and seven vandals from their own 38. neher barking signals back to throw has pressure fires incomplete over the middle ken and smith in coverage for the vandals or for the bengals and it is fourth and seven for idaho once again you know coming back into that where the linebacker reaches over the the back of the receiver i've seen reffing crews that call that you know we've seen three of them today jerry yeah i've seen crews that call it and i've seen crews that don't and this one is the one today they've been letting them go on both sides but they're consistent and i think that's what's important here's kade coffee who has hurt the bengals today and he gets a lower driving kick durango takes it at the 13 will try to outrun coverage and is going to go down inside the 15-yard line he caught it at the 13 and that's where he goes down there is a flag down at the 31-yard line which is almost never good for the return team i didn't see a bengal within 20 yards of the ref to throw it but i did see if you look on the screen here number 51 watch right here he's gonna basically his only option is a block in the back instead he raises his hands and puts us back into him that's a block in the black all day long if he hits him but because he did it that way russ won't call that well they called something out at the 31 yard line no word yet from the referee today i can't imagine it would be that because there was a ref right in front of him and the rafted through the flag was standing at the 50-yard line he must have really heaved that flag 19 yards [Music] for the bengals was one of the players mentioned offsetting unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and the other one was at number 34 of the vandals number 20 and they have three players listed for number 20 sully shannon a linebacker chris niamella a receiver and the other one is jed byers a receiver i would guess linebacker on special teams it would be one of your guys mitchell linebacker yeah we have a habit of doing that kind of stuff you also have rashaan johnson who is a running back yes i believe it was him that did it 24. oh i believe it was rashawn johnson that got into a little fight with uh genova nova yeah in a little shoving match yep oh yeah oh yeah well same two yeah you are too yeah linebackers don't do that stuff too i'll tell you both oh sure they don't you mean they don't verbally exchange they never do anything wrong right right penalty wise today as we look at both teams the vandals now four penalties for 20 yards idaho state 5 for 41 of course neither team assess yardage in penalties on those two offsetting but both on sportsmen like conduct so if either one of those players picked up another one then they would be out of the game with a personal foul bengals ahead 24 24-15 as the team's getting ready to come back onto the field curious what's taking this long to well they figure out but i believe they took a timeout 6 37 left in regulation and the bengals up by nine now if idaho state is able to put some points on the board on this drive it's going to leave them in pretty good shape but they're starting out first down at their own 13-yard line and vanderwaal hands off and rango gets to the 15. defensively christian ellis yes that ellis he has been in the game all day you'll say his name and you'll say walker's name trey walker every announcement the big sky has done it well at least the three games that they've played and they'll continue to do it next year but once again you know those guys need to take those defensive linemen out for shakes after this game because those guys are taking up blocks like crazy second and eight for the bengals from their own fifteen three wides to the right one left van der waals fires over the middle it is knocked down and defensively for the vandals is charles akano a 6-1 linebacker a redshirt senior unable to get into the backfield put pressure on the quarterback so instead of um you know just standing there gets his hands up it was just a great play 5 55 to go in regulation bengal's up by nine vandals jump offside vandals point at the bengals and say he moved and we'll see what the officials call referee talking to the lion judge [Applause] offside against idaho so the bengals were looking at third and eight from their 15. [Music] it'll be third and three from the 20. and that changes the complexion of the play calling right there opens your playbook up to a lot more of those uh underlined plays that you have in there jerry tailback looks like it's raiden hunter vanderwaal will hand it off and hunter stopped at the line maybe even a yard short nope he got right to the 20 and it'll be fourth down [Music] fourth and three those two linebackers again jerry read it all the way knew the play met him in the backfield that's the sign of an excellent linebacker exactly what coach fennessy said when he described the kind of defense isu would be looking at today said those guys up front boy you've got to get past those linebackers and so kevin ryan comes in on fourth and eighth fourth and four rather catrell haywood deep for the vandals but back on his own 40-yard line ryan gets the punt away a beauty and haywood takes it at the 34 with a fair catch that was a heck of a kick by ryan who had all kinds of pressure on him and you saw a little bit of theatrics from him there you know he might have been watching european soccer as well a lot of times a lot of times you can get uh you know get a call to go by the rest by not throwing the flag there 46 yard punt vandals go first down from their own 35 and down by nine mitch they've got to start taking some yardage chunks here with five minutes left to go back to throw neher fires complete and across midfield for a first down in bengal territory you gotta stay disciplined here you know they're gonna run a lot of little curl routes a lot of hook routes a lot of short very completable pass routes here jerry they're gonna they're gonna maintain stay with their game plan here but uh you know you got to be disciplined defensively if you're idaho state your hook drops on the receiving end of the 17-yard play mayor throws again over the middle it is complete and inside the bengal 30-yard line patton again with the catch two plays two first downs and now we see that vandal offense go into high gear we'll see if isu changes something up they found something in their zone that they like they want to see if isu will change up what they're doing defensively to adjust first down vandals at the bengal 29 with 4 18 to go clock running back to throw again nayer now will run he spun around and stopped after a couple of yards at the bengal just inside the 28 yard line good covers that there was nothing open down the field decide to take it there you want to see your lineman get a tackle in the backfield versus get a tackle two with a gain of two yards but we'll take it second down nine to go goodbye nade another four something there from the 28 of isu mayer hands it off and johnson gets to the isu 20-yard line and again he went most of that yards eight yards untouched [Music] yeah isu just expecting pass there caught him with the run you want to see linebackers coming downhill still with the run they still got to get their reads and make the plays [Music] third down from the 20 romano the tailback takes the ball and is hit at the line but keeps pushing and gets easily enough yardage for the first down he gets driven back but the vandals continue to push romano running like a bull i see you rotating in there too deep their second unit of defensive lineman there see if that has some many effect on the game first he's showing his own defense here vandals first down at the 19. mayor fires for the end zone the vandals say it's a cop ball and a touchdown and the referee agrees touchdown vandals wow [Applause] with the touchdown catch with 2 48 to go from the 18-yard line and nayer couldn't have thrown that any better but boy you give credit to hatton on that one for the catch a diving catch on the goal line this great pitching casio jerry you know it's tough and there's a linebacker you want to be underneath that to force a high throw but you know he found the hole and took advantage of it this point after buying coffee can cut the lead to two and his kick is up and good it is a 24-22 game with 2 48 to go the vandals kick off to isu right after this on pluto tv and the bengal broadcast network like a good neighbor [Music] playing for the onside kick and coffee puts it out of the back of the end zone and the bengals on the touch back with 2 48 left to go start at the 25 yard line boy a two-point game 24-22 idaho state time to make plays how many times have we seen a game in this kind of a situation this year there's basically every big sky team has gone through this every single week he teaches character jerry here we go first and ten bengals at their own 25 vanderwaal hands off rango out to the 29-yard line a four-yard gain and they want to keep that clock running four yards of pop would do it clocked down to two and a half minutes raiden hunter coming into the game for rango no silly mistakes manage the ball manage the clock get our first down no silly mistakes snap key to this drive approaching 10 seconds you're going to need at least two first downs here 10 on the snap clock 210 on the game clock vanderwaal with hunter behind him second and six and van der waal is brought down back at the 20-yard line and a flag on the play to boot looks like they got a holding call i'm going to guess it's going to go against isu and i'm going to guess that the vandals will decline the penalty and take the sack yep and that's exactly what happens [Music] so the bengals go from second and six now from their own 21 third and 14. big 98 again i believe that's the second statute and a timeout on the field that leaves idaho with only one timeout left this is a huge i mean exactly two minutes left to go not a lot of you know thought goes into this one for me jerry but this is a big play right i think everybody knows that what a huge huge sack by the vandals with two minutes to go when the bengals were looking at second and six and kim just blew that play up he drugged the offensive lineman with him and got a hold of vanderwaal and basically just ran over him knocked him over [Music] so you're looking that's a difference right there you know you look you got 40 pounds that's an extra 40 pounds to ron carries a light 280 yeah and kim is a a solid solid 320 i mean jeff harris in for the bengals and mike davis a tight end comes out bengals have third and 14 from their own 21. vanderwaal under center hands it off raiden hunter hit for another loss and the bengal defense is going to have to do the job with a minute 53 to go a timeout called and the vandals have used their final timeout of the game with a minute 53 to go they will reset the clock to 156 and the bengals look at a fourth down from their own 19-yard line fourth and they need to get out to the 35 well they're not going to give it a shot fourth and 16. you know this is a you look at this and you can be worried because the bengal defense is doing this again you know they've had this opportunity two weeks in a row if idaho state wants to take advantage of this if they want to win this game this defensive the defensive unit right now has to look at this as an opportunity they have to look at this as a chance to make up for the last couple weeks where they've given up a touchdown in the last couple seconds of the game they look at this as an opportunity they go out there they take momentum they carry emotion and they play hard they can do this they can make this stop but david alish has come in for the bengals in punt formation back at the five quick snap he gets a wobbler away it's taken on the 42 of idaho by haywood [Applause] no flags on the play with a minute 50 to go the vandals have 58 yards to cover and with cave coffee they don't have to get that close to go ahead trailing 24-22 you know that's what's going on with their head right now if they can't score it get close enough to have him kick the field goal angles are going to have to make a stop on this uh first series near at qb two receivers split to each side vandals go right to left mayor's straight drop dancing fires complete haywood has it at the 45 and skims his way out and a flag down on the play connor wills made the tackle haywood got out to the 49 but a flag down we're going to have offensive interference against the vandals it looked like he just created a little bit of too much separation for himself with the push it looks to me like that's what the call is but i'm off to check the replay number 80. number 80. away from the ball see if we can see so if you look he created the space by running into the linebacker hadn't just went it was what you call an illegal pick yeah ball goes back to the 30. actually back to the 28-yard line now this is heavy draw situation here would it be surprised if i went with a draw play here to the running back first and 25 to go for the vandals back to throw mayor fires up the middle it's deflected and falls incomplete at midfield o'shea trujillo got a hand on the ball and popped it up in the air hatton was wide open at the 45 [Music] a minute 38 to go i say over and over again we gotta have linebackers under those routes that's an example right there you get in line back under the route it has to be a high throw or you're going to get a pick second and 25 vandals mayor dancing firing complete to the outside and running out of bounds at the 33-yard line about a six yard gain five yards on the play it is third down and 30. got to put in your pass rush guys here defensively offensively you've got to give me your time he hasn't thrown a lot of in motion pass routes up to this point he wants to see him open before he plays it minute 32 on the clock vandals have no timeouts left they trailed 24-22 bengals come with a blitz nayer tucks and runs he's at the 35 and down across the 40-yard line near the original line of scrimmage it is fourth and 11th for the vandals from the 42. connor wills made the stop for isu and the vandals in four down territory clock running a minute eight seven six a lot of time on the snap this is it here jerry this is what determines the game fourth and eleven nader takes it straight drop has time fires complete incomplete to the near side and the bengals take over on [Applause] [Music] and what a relieving feeling for the bengal defense and defensive coordinator roger cooper i can't imagine how much relief he feels right now after the last couple of defeats that they've had giving up a touchdown in the last couple seconds of the game [Music] so they should feel pretty good about that stop jayden dawson made the stop and idaho state takes over with 52 seconds left and the vandals have no timeouts bengals have it first down and you think this will be victory formation at the vandal 42 vanderwaal takes a knee and the clock ticking 40 seconds the bengals only need to take one more snap [Applause] vanderwaal will wait for that snap clock to run down 15 seconds on the snap clock and the bengals ready vanderwaal under center takes the knee flag on the play the defensive lineman jumped across and grabbed the ball before the center could snap it i believe that'll be a penalty against the vandals with eight seconds left absolutely you know you're taught as a d-lineman you're taught that if you see the ball move at all you can try to swipe at it but i don't blame them for trying it's just competition is competitiveness but the game's kind of out of reach at this point so off point [Music] that's the ball game jerry there is a 10 second automatic runoff and the bengals win this one by two 24-22 [Applause] a hard-fought game and the bengals see the frustration come to an end and what's good to see is a number of the players and coaches are out there exchanging high fives from both teams and hugs and what a battle to the [Music] get involved in this sprints across the field to get the trophy the battle of the domes trophy rob fennessy at midfield trying to gather his team together and the bengals defeat the 24th ranked vandals of the university of idaho in the vandals first road game of this spring season they have two left 24-22 your final score we'll be back with a post-game show in a couple of moments on the bengal broadcast network [Applause] [Music] [Music] yes [Music] [Applause] [Music] we look forward to seeing you all back this coming fall we'll be returning [Music] we look forward to seeing you all again soon please drive home safely [Applause] [Music] we'll see y'all [Music] foreign
