[Music] hi my name is rose i was only 16 when my parents divorced i didn't know what it was about at first until the very next day after it happened my dad came home with a new girl wrapped around his arm she was incredibly pretty but the kind of pretty that just wasn't very natural she probably had a lot of work done my dad introduced her as his girlfriend so this is why mom and dad divorced i thought i wasn't mad that they had split up they had been arguing for years i knew that this would be coming although i can admit that i had hoped that it wouldn't come this quickly nice to meet you i'm sam i greeted her as well and then headed out the door they had just come through i'm headed to my friend's house be back later i didn't actually have anywhere to go i just didn't want to be home with dad and this girl i was going to call some of my friends to ask if we could all get together and see if i could spend the night anywhere but then i figured that dad would be upset if i didn't come home i decided to just hang by the park to kill a few hours and then head back on the way back i messaged some of my closest friends and told them what happened my parents divorced and now my dad brought home a girl they told me that i could crash at their house anytime i needed when i got home i was a little surprised that the girl was still over they were cuddled up on the couch watching a movie i wondered if she was going to be living with us dad paused the movie and asked me how it went i lied to him and told him that it was a blast and i had a lot of fun he seemed to find my answer acceptable because he nodded and played the movie for the next two years this kept happening the woman would come over and i would leave at first i would still come home at night only sleeping over at my friend's house on occasions but after a while i stopped coming home so often i would spend double or even triple sleepovers at my friend's house even sleep on the streets anything to not come home this led me into doing some things that i'm not so proud of i got into a bad group they started me on addictions alcohol and even gave me a pack of cigarettes i'd become a bad girl delinquent but i didn't care it kept me from home but then i turned 18. i was finally an adult i could finally move out i tried my best to look cleaned up before i went to get my belongings if my dad saw me looking bad he would be concerned for me and would try to make me stay at home and i did not really want to leave the house on a bad foot although i had rarely done it before i texted my dad before i came over i let him know that i was going to be getting my stuff and moving out to my surprise he invited me for supper and offered to help transport my belongings i took him up on his offer for dinner but assured him that i did not need help moving things he seemed happy enough with that answer at the dinner table i felt a little awkward and out of place it was like this lady and my dad had become a family that didn't include me in it i was okay with that but it felt like i was intruding the meal itself was really tasty consisting of a fruit salad turkey burgers and cooked vegetables i hadn't had an authentic home-cooked meal in nearly two years normally i had fast food takeout or bought some instant ramen but those had nothing on this meal after the meal i had gone to my room and started to gather all my things together i had already mentally gone through most of what i had and had decided to get rid of most of my things by donating them a few minutes into clearing my things there was a knock on my door i expected it to be my dad offering to help again but it actually was the woman i felt a little bad for never taking the time to learn her name but i guess i never really thought that she would stay here for so long so you're deciding to move out i nodded i was cautious about where this conversation was going the woman nodded as well before saying something that surprised me i was kind of hoping that you would decide to stay here we never did get the chance to know each other and it would be really nice to have another girl around here you know i did know what she meant i'd spend my fair share of time with no female company and it gets pretty lonely i was more shocked about the fact that she wanted to get to know me now now that i am an adult and don't have to listen to anything anyone says she could have made my father be around me or make me stay home and then try to get to know me then it was almost like she respected my right to avoid her and was a decent person about it why did you wait until now to talk to me i asked her well you were never really home and i didn't want to pressure you into liking me i don't know if you even noticed but this was my first meal with you she sounded a little sad and i realized that i might have hurt her feelings by always avoiding her yeah i'm sorry about that i shrugged as i finished packing up i didn't want to make her feel any worse but it felt like she was trying to guilt-trip me into staying and i wasn't having any of that i started loading things into my car before i left i gave my father a final hug and waved at the woman i already knew that i wasn't going to come back that made me feel better for not remembering her name [Music] hi my name is elisa and this happened when i was about six or seven years old but is something that i have never forgotten my dad belonged to a karate group and every year during the summer members from the association would get together in the mountains at a camp participate in different martial art workshops and have a good time the property that this was held at was private property and owned by the person who had started the association the camp would only last about three to four days before everyone went home it was common for people to bring their spouses kids and pretty much the whole family so my dad always took me with him and we camped out in the tent my mom stayed home my dad would just let me run free during the day since everyone knew each other i usually stayed fairly close by playing in the woods or playing with the other kids and i often checked in with my dad throughout the day while the property was several acres it was also fenced in and i was left with specific instructions to never go beyond the fence one year we were camping and before leaving for a workshop he told me to make sure the tent flap was closed and to not leave it open if i left so somebody wouldn't get the bright idea to steal something pretty much everyone at the camp knew each other and for the most part were decent people but still to be on the safe side i agreed and he left to join some of the other members while i hung out in the tent it wasn't long before i got bored of sitting in the tent and decided to go take a walk in the woods as i was leaving i decided to leave the tent flap open about halfway and my siamese cat stuffed animal inside there were some other tents around our area but there was no one around or so i thought because everyone was busy with the workshops and i figured it would be okay i wasn't gone more than an hour when i got back to the tent and although nothing was out of place i immediately could tell that something was off i looked around and to my dismay i could see that my stuffed siamese cat was gone i was heartbroken where could he be clearly someone took him on a mission to find my stuffed animal and the person who took him i stepped out of the tent and that is when i saw him sitting just inside the opening of his tent not far from ours was a man with a mustache holding my cat he sat there and waved at me i stood there and stared at him not knowing what to do like so many others i was raised to be polite and to always be nice just be nice so normally i would have gone over to him and see what he wanted and get my cat back this time i had a sick feeling deep in my gut that if i did that i would never see my family ever again he beckoned me to come over to him and tilted my stuffed animal in his hands i had an internal struggle going on inside of me at that moment should i go tell someone that this man stole my stuffed animal i was afraid that i would get yelled at if i did i also knew that i couldn't let this man take my stuffed animal from me finally i gathered up the courage and ran full tilt towards the man grabbed the stuffed animal from his hands and ran past him with a fury until i found a trusted adult i never told my dad or anyone at the camp about what happened it wasn't until recently that i mentioned to my dad for the first time what happened that day and concerned he asked why i never said anything he also said that the description of the man with the mustache didn't match the description of anyone he knew within the association he told me that i should have told him or somebody else and that what would have happened is that about 20 angry martial arts experts would have kicked the guys [Music] to this day i still have my siamese stuffed animal and both of my kids have also played with him at some point he is known as the stuffed animal that mom rescued from the creepy man who stole him while i don't regret running and grabbing my kitty from the man i do regret not telling someone about him he clearly didn't belong at the karate camp and had bad intentions i often wonder about how many other people he had done a similar thing to and had i told someone he might be sitting in jail instead of doing who knows what to others so creepy perverted and i arranged everything we hired my parents favorite local rock band to play they even set up a stage and dance floor in the backyard we made a canopy roof from lots of twinkling lights they are my sure to get all 200 invitations out to our friends relatives and neighbors with the larger percentage of people being local neighbors and friends since we didn't have many relatives that lived near us my siblings and i decided to get my parents a whole bunch of lottery scratch-offs and make a basket bouquet with them tied with ribbons and we would present them at the party right before the end of the night fireworks that we had planned the big day came everyone had an amazing time my siblings and i danced the night away and really loved seeing our mum and dad have so much fun as the end of the night drew near we had the videographer go live on my social media account to connect with all our family and friends that couldn't make it so they could see us present our parents with their lottery basket as they scratched off each ticket everyone was chanting and shouting win win win win when all of a sudden my mom starts to scream oh my oh my we won we won tears of joy were rolling down both their faces my dad was in shock one of their tickets they scratched and one was a million dollars now in that basket were also tickets for a trip to europe for both of them they were so excited they didn't see it at first meanwhile this whole time not even realizing it the videographer was still recording live on social media however while my parents went away on vacation to europe and we siblings went to our farmhouse for a small outing because of my posting on social media of the video that night and all the information about their lottery winning their gifts and trip to europe being out there for everyone to see when we all came back from vacation their house had been the only good thing is that nobody was at home to get hurt the police never did catch who did it but after this
