word of god for the people of god bless you amen come to that moment in our worship service where we prepare to present our tithes and our offerings as unto the lord we're reminded that giving is an important part of worship love is giving giving is caring and caring is sharing and so mount calvary baptist church family and friends we want you to know how much we thank god for you and how blessed we are by the gifts of tithes and offerings that you continue to make to this branch of zion it allows this church to continue some important ministries both within and outside of the church in the community so we're reminded that all that we have comes from the lord and he had bid us to share a portion of that which he has blessed us with there are five ways that we can give you can give by cash app by easy tithe or by paypal you can also mail if you prefer your tithes and offerings to the church or bring it by the church office in either case please know that we thank god for you and for the gifts that you bring and that you present as unto the lord [Music] and our lord as we prepare to present our tithes and our offerings we pray that you would receive these gifts from our feeble hands and that you would do with these our gifts even as you did with those two little fishes and five barley loaves we pray dear god that you would sanctify these our gifts and that you would multiply them that they might be used to thy glory to thy honor into the upbuilding of thy kingdom but we offer a petition in the name of the one who has taught us how to give your son our savior and our lord jesus the christ as we together say amen [Music] [Music] uh [Music] still works [Applause] is [Music] [Music] still work [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] because he before the lord in prayer so many reasons to pray without ceasing and so we are going to ask deacon mary mclean to come and lead us to the throne of grace at this time there is no secret what god can do what he's done for others he'll do for you with his arms wide open he'll pardon you there's no secret what our god can do let us pray what a friend we have in jesus all our sins and griefs to bear what a privilege it is to carry everything to god in prayer oh what peace we often forfeit oh what needless pain we bear all because we do not carry everything to god in prayer our father and our god the one who knows our every thought and action we come once again this morning to your throne of grace just as we are confessing that we have sinned and fallen short of thy glory but grateful that you bid us to come we are so thankful that you have provided access to you through your son jesus christ for we know that we don't always know how to pray or what to pray or to ask for but thank you for the holy spirit which makes intercession for us thank you for your word in isaiah 64 5 24 which says and it shall come to pass that before they call i will answer and while they are yet speaking i will hear we are standing on your word today as we lift up this prayer so dear god we come on behalf of your people not only those here in mount calvary but those in this city county state nation and the world for all mankind and conditions all over the world those who are sick physically mentally or spiritually whether they are in nursing homes hospitals prisons or at home those who are bereaved due to the loss of loved ones those who are without jobs homeless and in financial need those who may be lonely or in need of encouragement lord we pray that you will heal our land of all diseases those who are still experiencing the effects of floods and earthquakes we pray for educators teachers those on the school boards administrators parents and students we pray for first responders those police officers firemen health care workers those who are caretakers give them peace that surpasses all understanding we pray for our pastors and ministry leaders as they serve in your vineyard may they all not grow weary in well doing for in due season they shall reap if they faint not we pray for those who are listening who may not know your son jesus christ in the pardon of their sins and then as our pastor brings the message that you have given him they will hear you speak through him and as the word goes forth we know it will not return forward and pray that they will give their lives to you then lord when we have done all that god has assigned our hands to do here on earth we pray that you will find for us a home in your kingdom where we can praise your name forever and ever these and all of the need for blessings we ask in jesus name with the forgiveness of every sin we pray amen amen [Music] oh [Applause] yes god is real [Music] [Applause] is [Applause] oh it's [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] oh he's real in my soul [Applause] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] i can feel him in my soul come on and clap your hands hallelujah we serve a real god on this morning hallelujah we bless your name jesus [Music] hallelujah god glory to god how many of you just know he's a real in your soul oh god we thank you today [Music] [Applause] [Music] hallelujah thank you jesus thank you lord [Music] i've lost some good friends a long life's way some love once departed in heaven to stay but thank god i didn't lose everything i lost faith in people who said they cared in the time of my crisis they were never there but in my disappointment in my season one thing never wavered one thing never changed [Music] and i never lost my joy i never lost my faith but most of all [Music] praise god [Music] i let some blessings just slip away when i lost my focus [Music] i've lost possessions that were so dear and i've lost some battles by walking in fear but in the [Music] one thing never changed [Music] my oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i've god lost my friends [Music] that's why i'm here [Music] [Music] i never lost [Music] oh [Music] glory hallelujah hallelujah glory hallelujah [Music] hallelujah how many of you can keep it real and say i've lost some things in this life lost some friends lost some opportunities lost some money but with all that i lost how many can testify that i still have a hallelujah i still have a glory to god i still have a thank you jesus i still have my praise hallelujah glory glory glory [Music] hallelujah hallelujah [Music] hallelujah [Music] hallelujah let's give god the praise hallelujah never lost my praise never lost my praise hallelujah you know there's so much going on in the world right now that we have to make sure that we hold on to an attitude of gratitude that we are always prepared to say thank you lord in spite of what i'm going through we have to have a posture like david and say i will bless the lord at all times and his praises shall continually be in my mouth my soul shall make her boast in the lord and the humble shall hear thereof and be glad mount calvary o magnify the lord with me let us exalt his name together amen first and foremost i want to thank deacon dr james boone for taking all the time to do his good reading [Music] for our scripture texts amen first thessalonians 5 17 pray without ceasing then chris texted me after he had the scripture well doc what's the subject i said the subject is pray without ceasing amen so for the few moments that are mine this morning we want to share from the subject pray without ceasing my brothers and my sisters the times in which we live more now than ever we need to be in a mode and posture of constant prayer we need to be in constant communication with the father if we are his sheep we are supposed to know his voice we must learn his voice through the holy habit of reading his word and by being in conversation with him our prayer life should be conversational while the hymn that deacon mclean referenced in her prayer reminds us that it is a privilege to carry everything to god in prayer we should also be taking away some things from god in prayer i've gotten to the point where when i get on my knees i don't get up until i feel a difference while in prayer the lord wants to speak some things into our life he's able to speak to our various situations and circumstances he's able to speak peace to our troubles in order to our confusion he's able to speak life to dead situations and and because we don't spend this time in prayer talking and sharing with and receiving from the master many if not most christians live beneath the privilege which the hymn writer wrote uh there are some who say i would pray more if i had more time or i'm too busy to pray like i should but if that is your thinking sisters and brothers you have that backwards because the busier you are the more you have to get done the more you should be praying if if you're that busy then you're too busy not to pray it's the story of a six-year-old boy who was invited uh by a friend to have dinner and when his friend's family was all seated around the table the food was served and the family began to eat the little boy who was visiting was puzzled by this so he stopped his little friend's father and asked don't you all pray before you eat the father was embarrassed by the question that he mumbled the reply uh no we don't take any time for that the little boy sat back in this chair for a moment then he said oh i see you do just like my dog does he just starts in eating too beloved when we don't take the time to pause in prayer a prayer of thanksgiving to god for all his many blessings we too appear to be as ungracious and ungrateful as a dog the apostle paul gives us the directive to pray he gives this directive to pray unceasingly to the church at thessalonica for thessalonica was one of the early cities that paul and silas evangelized on their missionary journeys for good reason you see thessalonica was not some unimportant and uh irrelevant town thessalonica was the capital of all of macedonia which is made up of all of the land that flows between the tigris and the euphrates thessalonica was one of the wealthiest cities in the roman empire the city was heavy with trade and commerce it was one of the centers of the empire and therefore it was a right place to spread the gospel of jesus christ because of this paul and silas knew that if they could share the gospel and help people to be saved at thessalonica then those people would spread the word throughout the city and all and all of those moving in and out of thessalonica would also perchance hear the gospel and receive christ and go back to their homes and spread the gospel causing even more to come into the kingdom and causing the kingdom of god to multiply and so paul and silas early work at thessalonica was strategic to cause the good news of jesus christ to spread like wildfire and in the 21st century church that is our mission the 21st century mission of the church has not changed since the first century it's still our job as believers to share this gospel to all who will hear beloved history tells us that paul and silas were so effective in evangelizing and starting the thessalonian church that jews who rejected the gospel became intimidated by the growth of the church and hired thugs to attack paul uh how many know that when god is blessing the enemy will start messing for this cause paul went into hiding and eventually had to leave town but the church at thessalonica continued to grow history further tells us that a short time after leaving thessalonica timothy joined paul from thessalonica with several questions from the church concerning their newfound faith and so paul in this epistle uh which we call first thessalonians makes an attempt to answer these questions and at the close of the letter paul gives several directives to encourage growth among these new believers and one of these directives is that they should pray without ceasing for paul knew if these new converts were going to grow in their relationship with jesus christ that it was going to take prayer prayer and some more prayer and so all throughout his epistles to the early churches into new converts paul admonished the saints to pray but it's only to the church at thessalonica that paul gives the directive to pray without ceasing paul tells him to pray without ceasing or in other words pray and don't stop praying ah he tells him to pray without ceasing or praying don't give up on prayer pray without ceasing means to pray even when you don't feel like praying pray without ceasing means to pray don't have step in prayer pray even when you don't see a change pray even when folks are laughing at you for praying pray even when the doctor tells you that prayer won't help pray when everyone around you has given up on prayer pray when you don't have anything left but a prayer paul tells them to pray pray until something happens pray until your change comes pray until you get a breakthrough pray without ceasing never never never ever give up on prayer paul tells them that because he knew of their particular environment and how troublesome it was he tells them to pray without ceasing pray without ceasing now i want you to think about that beloved i want you to really think about that paul tells them to pray without ceasing now on the surface that seems like a seriously tall order to pray without ceasing it it appears to be a tall order to pray when you get up in the morning and all through your morning routine and during breakfast and during your drive to work and all while you're working you're still praying and then uh praying uh driving home through dmv traffic that prey is probably a better alternative than some other things you may be inclined to do mdmv pray all through through pray through your your dinner and pray through your evening routine and pray before you go to bed and i haven't figured out yet how you can pray while you're sleeping it's a tall order to be an unceasing unrelenting unending perpetual continual prayer but please note that paul is not suggesting this he is not admonishing that the people pray around the clock but that they remain consistent in prayer and persistent in prayer consistent meaning to pray regularly and persistent meaning to pray until you get an answer because paul knew that if the thessalonian church remained consistent in prayer and persisted in prayer that they would come out victorious each and every time and i believe that we ought to have some witnesses here are there any witnesses in either the sanctuary or the cyber sanctuary who can testify that prayer works [Applause] uh i i cannot i dare not speak for you but if you will allow me space to testify on my own behalf in the middle of this message i must testify that i am here today because prayer works i'm alive today with my right mind because prayer works and although i was born in sin and i can declare that i have been saved by his power divine all because somebody prayed for me ah can you be a witness that somebody prayed for somebody prayed for me had me on their mind took the time and prayed for me and i'm so glad is there anybody who's glad that somebody prayed for you when you didn't have sense to pray for yourself is there anybody glad that somebody somewhere called your name in prayer ah beloved paul commends the thessalonian church to pray without ceasing and i'm glad to give you uh just three reasons that we too should keep on praying can we talk about it the first reason we should pray without ceasing is because prayer protects us prayer protects us again paul knew the church at thessalonica was in constant danger of the treacherous and violent ways of dissenting jews and roman officials but he knew that if the church could cultivate the habit of praying without ceasing that prayer would go before them disarming the plans of the enemy beloved you and i ought to pray for the same reason for we too have enemies who mean to cause us harm the word tells us that our common enemy of the adversary the devil is going to and for as a roaring lying seeking whom he may devour the apostle john refers to him as the accuser of the brother the brethren the one who stands before the judge day and night fighting for our conviction and a condemning judgment jesus even tells us that the thief cometh not but for to kill steal and destroy but beloved when you live your life in consistent and persistent prayer prayer will go over to where the enemy is and cancel his assignment even in those times when the enemy's assignment is not canceled and his weapons are formed when you go to god in prayer his response will be don't worry my child no weapon formed against you will prosper prayer is much like a heat-seeking missile once you launch it from your knees it will find the enemy's artillery and destroy it prayer protects us from every trap and every temptation that the enemy would put before us i heard the hype writers say in seasons of distress and grief my soul has often found relief and off escape the tempter snare by thy return sweet hour of prayer prayer protects us i want to share with you that after a year desi being in daycare this was back in connecticut she switched classes and and she was with a teacher and for me there were too many incidents and too many boo boos too many scrapes and destiny i'm not just saying this because she's my daughter but but she is a genius and and she could speak in full sentences early on after she turned two so she could tell us what was going on and so every time my wife would get a call she would text me and because i was teaching at a college my hours were more flexible and every time i got a call i would pop up pull her in the hallway and say desi tell daddy what happened so that when she went to another classroom things got a bit better but one day she fell and there was an incident uh after the teacher got her cleaned up destiny looked at the teacher and said my daddy is coming soon and the teacher says no sweetheart we just sent your mom a text and your daddy will pick you up this evening but i want you to know that 10 minutes later reverend dr brian bellamy was knocking at the door amen beloved we ought to have that kind of confidence in our father that when we get our boo boo when we get a strength when the trials of life affect us that if our daddy gets the message we know that he's going to come through because prayer protects us secondly my sisters and my brothers we should continue in prayer because prayer prepares us prayer prepares us the church at thessalonica was a brand new church full of new converts they were yet learning what it means to be a christian i'm gonna tell you what you can be a christian for 80 years and you're 81 you're going to learn something new about jesus but they were brand new they they they didn't know what it mean to be a christian they were yet learning what it meant to be the church and so paul admonished them to pray without ceasing and to be in con consistent communication with the father so that they will be prepared for whatever the future holds and beloved we do not know what tomorrow holds but we do know who holds tomorrow and since we know who holds tomorrow it only makes sense to get on our knees today so that we can be prepared for tomorrow i i i want to tell you something else about pastor i have found that in those days when i get up fast in a hurry and forget to pray just about everything goes wrong but when i take just a few minutes to check in with the father he gives me grace for the day sometimes he'll say okay i want you to go there and shut your mouth sometimes he'll say i want you to go over there and speak up but he gives me instructions and i'm prepared for the day and this is one of the powerful things about prayer when you get on your knees prayer can leave you here today and fix whatever's messed up in your tomorrow and even in those times when the lord doesn't move the storm when you pray without ceasing you will be ready to face your storm when you pray without ceasing god will lead you around the storm god will prepare you and give you instruction beloved i'm reminded of a story that my colleague in ministry shared with me he was riding through the airport on his way to preach at a conference and when he was in the airport he saw this woman walking back and forth just talking to herself talking to herself and and he had the sense that she was disturbed so he put his things in a secure place so that he could go over and minister to her and just as he was about to go and speak to her she turned he she turned around and she saw that she had a bluetooth in her ear and that she was not talking to herself but she had a signal from on high that he could not hear but that she could and beloved that's just how god prepares us in prayer the holy spirit becomes a bluetooth in our ear speaking and giving us signals in directions that are not meant for anybody else but us is there anyone here that can be a witness that prayer will prepare you lastly beloved not only will prayer protect you not only will it prepare you but prayer will propel you prayer will propel you to be propelled is to be driven in a particular direction usually higher or forward you can be propelled higher for example a helicopter is lifted and sustained by its propellers or you can be propelled forward for example it is the propeller that gives speed and force to the motor boat and beloved prayer will propel you likewise prayer propels us because prayer can take us higher higher than your low self-esteem higher than our pity party higher than depression higher than the talkers and the naysayers and the gossipers prayer can take you higher in your praise and worship higher in your divine calling and service to god higher in the anointing to exercise your gifts in the body of christ and in the world prayer can take you higher but prayer also propels us forward forward so that we can leave the past behind forward so that we can move on from our mistakes by the grace and mercy and forgiveness of god forward so we're not stuck in tradition and bound to the living faith of the dead forward into destiny into your promise forward into what god has next for your household forward into what god has next for mount calvary baptist church of rockville how many of you are praying that god propels us higher and that god propels us forward you have to lean over to a neighbor and say i'm praying and god is taking me higher and it's taking me forward yes beloved prayer is the driving force of the believer prayer will be that driving force that keeps you that that pushes you that empowers you that causes you to run on to see what the end is going to be and when others lose hope and give up when others throw in the towel prayer will cause you to keep on moving or in other words prayer will propel you and when people begin to question you and ask you what's the secret to your success you can tell them i found the answer when i learned to pray yes beloved when everything's going everything around me is going down i have an invisible propeller keeping me afloat well i'm closing here but in these few moments i hope i have encouraged someone to pray without ceasing for prayer will protect you prayer will prepare you prayer will propel you and i'm closing here but i just want to remind you that the bible is a record of men and women who found an answer in prayer in protecting prayer god told noah to find refuge in the ark in preparing prayer god took joseph from the pit to the palace on propelling prayer god gave moses the courage to stand up to mean old pharaoh through protecting prayer god may the son stand still so that joshua could defeat his enemy through preparing prayer god answered gideon's fleece and gave him the assurance he would be with him in battle through propelling prayer esther was given the inner strength that she needed to face the king so that she could say if i perish i perish but i'm going to see the king through protecting prayer david was able to kill a giant with a slingshot through preparing prayer the three hebrew boys were able to stand the fiery furnace through propelling prayer daniel was able to stand the night in the lion's den all of these are great examples but just before we take the lord's supper i want you to know that i read in his word that even jesus had to pray he prayed in the garden of gethsemane and that prayer was a protecting prayer because he was getting ready to cover our sins that prayer was a preparing prayer because it got him ready to be crucified so that he would acquiesce and say not my will but thy will be done and that prayer was a propelling prayer i told you propelling prayer can take you forward and it can take you higher and jesus prayer in gethsemane was a preparing propelling prayer oh because when he got through praying he was propelled toward calvary and he was left high on the cross and i just stopped by to say to you that if jesus had to pray i said if jesus [Music] had to pray y'all don't hear me i said if jesus had to pray what about you and what about me i come to let you know this morning that i made up in my mind that i'm gonna keep on praying and trusting in god i'm gonna keep on praying until times get better i'm gonna keep on praying until i can see my way i'm going to keep on praying because there's victory in the end now i hear some of you in the spirit somebody in the cyber sanctuary and says pastor i've been praying for a long time and i haven't got my answer yet well let me just share this with you just a few years ago i was flying into south carolina to preach a revival and as i got close to the myrtle beach airport i realized that we were taxiing for a while in the air and i didn't realize what was going on but i began to pray and as i began to pray instead of landing we went out further into the water and we began to circle the water i didn't know what was going on but i kept on praying i knew that i should have been at my destination but i was stuck in a holding pattern is there anybody here who's ever been in a holding pattern waiting to hear the answer where did you get the report i was in a holding pattern but after a while half hour late we landed and when we touched down the pilot came on the air and said let me apologize for the delay ah but there was a tropical storm headed our way and we had to fly 50 feet away from the airport so that we could make a safe landing we were delayed but we made it to the destination i want to encourage somebody if you've been praying and praying a long time just keep on praying because god's delay is not a denial there may be some storms that you can't see in the atmosphere there may be some trouble that you don't know anything about it but how many know we serve a god who can keep us from danger seen and unseen just keep on praying god will hear your prayer keep on praying god will come see about his children keep on praying god will make a way do i have a witness if you keep on praying he'll lighten your load if you keep on praying he'll give you strength if you keep on praying he'll turn your test into a testimony yes pray and don't give up pray and don't give in pray god will god will god will come through yes he will pray without ceasing pray without ceasing pray without ceasing pray without ceasing don't give up prayer can fix it for you lashon pace rose wrote a song said prayer can fix it for you prayer is the most you can do and the end of the song says before you give up and let the devil win go back and pray again hallelujah the doors of the church are open we want to extend an invitation those of you who may be here or in the cyber sanctuary to join us in the house of prayer where we are praying without ceasing the bible teaches us in romans 10 9 through 10 that if we would confess with our mouth the lord jesus and believe in our heart god raise him from the dead we shall be saved for with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation and so if you are here you believe jesus christ is the son of god who died on the cross for your sins that you can be saved you can give your life to christ why don't you come forward at this time beyond that if you're already saved you're looking for a church home you don't have to look any further we'll gladly according to our church's constitution and bylaws pastor bellamy and mount calvary i second that motion amen you have heard the motion and the second mount calvary what is your pleasure mount calvary what is your pleasure amen [Music] amen brother henderson and galatians chapter 2 verse 9 we learned that the apostles james john and cephas who were pillars of the church welcomed paul and barnabas but as paul and barnabas were getting ready to separate they publicly gave them a right-handed handshake to signal that they approve of their work as they went forward to minister to the gentiles and so it is a tradition of the church that when we receive a new member that we give you a right-hand shape signifying that we welcome to you to be a part of us and that you are approved to work with us in the kingdom of god god bless you we're so glad to have you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so [Music] amen at this time let us prepare for the lord's supper we are going to be led in the reading of the church covenant by reverend king let us read responsibly our church covenant we invite you to stand and for those who are in the cyber sanctuary we invite you to please read along with us having been led as we believe by the spirit of god to receive the lord jesus christ as our savior we do now in the presence of god angels and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in christ to promote its prosperity and spirituality to sustain this worship ordinances discipline and doctrines we also engaged to maintain family and secret devotions to religiously educate our children to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances to avoid all tattling backbiting and excessive anger we further engage to watch over each other and with brotherly love to be slow to take offense but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our savior to secure it without delay god's word [Music] let us unite our hearts and our minds in a brief word of prayer as we prepare to partake of the elements eternal god our heavenly father we are so grateful unto thee for this another opportunity to share in this memorial service where we will partake of the bread which represents your body that was broken upon the cross and the fruit of the vine that represents your blood that was shared for the remission of our sins we pray dear god that you would now by the power of the holy spirit cleanse us from anything that would separate us from you and from our fellow man that we may be able to partake of these elements with clean hands and with a pure heart and grant our favor dear god that we will receive as only you can give that energy that we need for the journey that lies ahead in jesus name we pray as we take out the same amen [Music] way [Music] that gives me strength from day [Applause] to day it will never [Music] [Music] [Applause] yes [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the blood of jesus that keeps me strength [Applause] [Music] [Applause] one last time it was [Music] [Music] for he was wounded for our transgressions bruce for our iniquity the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes we are healed [Music] here we are gathered for the night time around the lord's table remembering the tremendous sacrifice of our lord and savior jesus the christ we recall the prayer that he prayed in gethsemane and we remember that this sacrifice came through great prayer uh he gave us his body through great prayer and he gave us his blood through great prayer and it is through a prayer without ceasing that we owe him the rest of our lives the bible reminds us that in the night in which jesus was betrayed he gathered with his disciples that he might partake of the last passover feast with them and at that feast he took bread and broke it said take and eat this represents my body which is broken for you let us now take it and eat it likewise he took the cup of the fruit of the vine which represents his blood shed for the remission of sins and he gave it let us now take the blood for his body we say hallelujah hallelujah for his blood we say hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah the bible says that they went out to the mount of olives singing a hymn amen i don't know what him they sung but let's sing a little bit of this i my brothers and my sisters i
