Mixing Perfect Vocals from SCRATCH using FL Studio

bam what's goodie kings and queens jordan baywood here today we're going to be taking a vocal from this man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do when i feel so amazing gotta steal saying in the game playing when running a back of the big body for movie you know we ain't naming this is episode 2 of mixing from scratch series i'm going to be doing three episodes in fl studio last time we did trap vocals now we're doing some modern hip hop vocals the kid leroy style and then episode three we'll be doing um some r b vocals and then we'll be moving on to our next doll i think it's very important to use different daws ever since i started using multiple daws it just made it more fun it's a really cool learning curve in which you're able to oh you know this fl studio sounds better than the logic one or the uh studio one version so i highly suggest if you guys can to try multiple dolls it's probably the best thing i've ever decided to do and it has advanced my creativity in engineering uh this artist goes by joy is very talented artist definitely go check him out usually i start with the main vocals but i actually want to do these oohs because i think there's a main part of the vocal so what we're going to do is uh put this assign it into insert two we're going to open up [Music] so one thing i want to do is add some chorus to it nice okay i just want it to the sides and then i'm just going to take out some of these lows [Music] and then i'm going to add a compressor just to make it a little bit more [Music] consistent [Music] and then we're going to add some auto-tune we'll go pitcher very amazing auto-tune so we're going to go e minor [Music] nice i'm gonna turn the gain a bit down okay now i'm gonna add some reverb to really give it that sauce let's give it a long decay [Music] nice okay so i got it sitting where i want and then next we're going to just do the main vocals man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do and i feel so amazing and i'm gonna turn this who wos off for now and we'll come back to that you know the first part about mixing a really good vocal is having a really good recording so if you guys don't like the way it sounds dry i highly suggest re-record you know get a microphone get some stuff where you like your vocals dry you're gonna have to upgrade your mic if you don't like the quality of your vocal there's no mixing that can help that i'm telling you it should sound like this man i really don't care what they want like even dry it sounds good so that's what i look for when i'm mixing a vocal so the first thing uh we're gonna do is let's add our limiter to get rid of any ground noise let's do the basics first we're gonna just do noise gates and then we'll add our way wave candy we're gonna add a level meter man i really don't care what they want perfect so it's at negative 20 that's where right where i like my vocal sitting i'm just so used to it so we'll put this over here we're gonna add our auto tune i think on this one we're gonna go super heavy auto tune we'll see how it sounds man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do and i feel so amazing [Music] a little too much so we're just gonna tone this speed down a bit man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do when i feel so amazing gotta zeal my back i ain't gum you to what you say in the game playing when running a back of the big body if a movie you know we ain't naming and the function you know you go crazy y'all when designer dripping like it's raining smoking chronically got me so [Music] moving yeah i'm gonna boost up some of these low mids i feel like he's lacking in that man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do and i feel so amazing got a zeal on my back i ain't got me you two what you saying in the game playing when running a back of the big body if you move you know and then i just boosted some highs to give it that crispiness top end next we're going to compress these vocals to make them super consistent with wrap you know you can push the compressor a bit harder because it's not about the dynamics of the vocal in rap music usually man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i did so let's go around you know eight let's see how that does and then we're gonna lower the threshold and we know that it's at negative 20 so we just go a bit under that around negative 30. and we know we're going to be compressing it i don't know if i want type hard let's go like a maybe a soft compressor man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do when i fix so amazing [Music] it sounds too consistent it sounds too overdone so all we do is dial back on that um ratio go to like man i really don't care what they want i'm gonna do what i do and i feel so amazing got a zip on my back i ain't got me you two what you saying in the game playing when running a back of the big [Music] so nice we got a nice consistent clean vocal and now we can really start experimenting with some fun things like i said in last video i really do love patcher but i'm going to show something new there's amazing presets in this it creates its own plugin using multiple plugins so one thing i want to do is just look through these and see what's some fun things we could do with this let's try let's try something new maybe a little bit distortion who knows so yeah it just turns into a plug-in and if you want to see what it's like this is crazy so you can see all these plugins working together to make this one little body if we move you so that just really puts it in the pocket and smooths it out and now we're going to use another reverb we're going to do a little bit longer reverb to give it space man i really think this is gonna be it so we're gonna lower this knob this um dry wet knob and i think it's really gonna set it right in the pocket and give it that perfect space man i really don't care what they
