Miriam Margolyes Reveals She Is Scared of Maggie Smith | This Morning

you've already made us laugh this morning before before the show even started because in actual fact you'd much rather be in rehearsals well I walked and I need it you know III should be if it opens on hello on Halloween yes which is scary enough are you all ready for it no I'm I'm behind are you I'm all behind actually Am I I need to work this is this is a complicated place wonderful play and it was sent to me in the post out of the blue nine years ago and I've been trying to get it on ever since and and now I wish I had enough but I'm gonna be there I'll be I'll be ready oh you know it's a lovely theatre and I've got two wonderful actors to work with Mark had fielded Vivian Perry I'm scared of them they're so good they really are well just explain a little bit about it because it's a mother and son sort of tumultuous relationship and we owe each other we absolutely we don't lose each other and it she's a real nasty old cow you know right and some people say no acting required but actually berries marries the the issues because they don't they hate each other but deep down they love each now they don't know they are do you know you ain't seen it yet Adri the synopsis you can eat that but you can't read it know it I don't think they do love each other right it's one of those relationships you you may have been in them I don't know I don't know about your private life but you you can be with somebody for years and years and you end up hating them and that issue here is also inheritance money oh yes and the money yeah money is at the root of everything and so for you then because so to get your teeth into this kind of baddie grumpy character I mean is that quite funny you quite enjoying doing that so I loved I loved being horrible right actually there is a delight nastiness but I I don't want to be myself a nasty person I've got to come out of it when I yeah so if people tell me that I'm carrying it out with me I shall met I'll try to watch that well he's a very talented writer usually no hair his name gorgeous have you seen him he's on Irish murders so talented and so generous and lovely were very lucky he's actually he's the cousin of someone who works on this Rory Smith who's somehow to hear that where is Rory this Rory person also very handsome gallery all right well anyway to theatre for you as well sort of Chris you won't me no movies and TV and all that sort of stuff is it is it nice to go back into it to theatre it is wonderful to be in a theatre it's where you learn and where you grow yeah I think I mean tell yous for kids isn't it really would you agree well yeah well I mean I mean acting acting I mean we yes we are not mind you there's been some wonderful television performances recently I've seen some great television but I love theatre I love that connection with the audience it it's thrilling scary but thrilling yeah and and also I I don't have you seen any money rolling it at 10% that we should really begin to no no no yes well well considering that we we got you the rolling call the midwife I feel it's strange that there's been no remuneration whatsoever I'm I should have given you something I'm not sure what I should first of all say thank you because I think you allowing me to ask for the role on television may have trickled through may have percolated over to the producers it's a fabulous bit of the series in being out shot in the Outer Hebrides how did you know that well it is it is I probably did tell you I forget what I say sometimes it's quite got a closely guarded secret all of this and for good reason because obviously if Chris I can't tell you why we're in their days but we are and I and the Outer Hebrides is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to so if you're looking for somewhere for a holiday think about the Outer Hebrides not in June and July because of the midges little insects well you have a very I my father was born in the Gorbals which was then a slum and I love Glasgow and I love Scotland you actually did about four minutes of your research chat with our team with with your Scottish accent I know it was sort of showing off really but I can't help it because I heard it all my life you know I grew up listening to that sound it's actually the south side of Glasgow it's a particular sound and I just love doing it I love feeling that memories coming all around me of my father whom I adored and my mother of course you know what she was not Scottish she was from Liverpool can you do that no I could do it but I need to pause you know our researcher may have made something of a mistake but she was talking to you by saying an actual fact there was a there's a touch of the Maggie Smith's about that and he had a McGonagall well I I think my Scottish accent is better than her I do I do but I know what she was trying for and I knew we have Glasgow and she was trying for Edinburgh mmm but know that I'm rubbishing Maggie Smith because she's a great lady I'm kiddin scared about she's she's quite something they say yes but she is a great ornament to our profession we're very lucky to have her around actually what you don't tell her what I say when you know by the way this pumpkins going off oh is it keep that one new thing I can't stand the whole thing I can't bear it Halloween yes the whole thing I think it's an invention oh do you yeah in American invention I loathe it and so but the other the other festivals are okay well this is fun yeah food yes do lollies do do i what do a dr. Holly no Holly two lollies the other thing yeah yeah that's not politically correct well you'll get away I have my sorry snapped when do you work when do you get back to Australia cuz cuz that's the place it's very close to your heart mid-january I'll be back in Australia and you're doing a series actually I'm doing a series about Australia I've filmed it I call Miriam uglies almost Australian because I took citizenship because my partner's Australian and I wanted to be able to come and go and live there like you know like a human being so I'll be I'll be back with her in in mid January and I'll stay for a couple of months nothing and just endure myself yeah but you put this play first of all Rory had actually come down but you know he's still a very when I'm down 31st of October tending sickness ember is it's completely sold out so they've got standing lot of standing sees standing room standing room yep and we'll want to come and see it alright well you'll be packed out I'm absolute it's lovely to see [Laughter] you
