we were looking up to be part of this huge worldwide success success success good times I'm Alan leach and I'm Michelle Dockery and today we are reviewing some of maggie Smith's very best lines your quarrel is with my daughter Rosalind not me so put that in your pipe and smoke it that's a classic it's a classic it's like things that you read on the page that you wouldn't think would be that funny but when she does it they'll check to make sure that the lines are also relevant to the time period mm-hmm zinger every time a sister you're a woman with a brain and reasonable ability stop whining and finding something to do the way that she pauses as well and she is brain and reasonable trying to find a compliment in there somewhere how did you know my crack-up every time I mean I did I think trying out the telephone where you can see me laughing but they thought that II just might find it funny so it was okay yeah it was really funny corpsing because they are quite serious and not at the time it takes the smallest facial movement to know that we've lost it there's a moment where I can see Michele and Mary's face you know or for my finest the intakes of breath to see we like because you're just trying to stop but then the minute someone else hears that they're gone yes yes she's normally the one who makes hosts break yeah I could ask you you might be free no I hope so I'm a feeble substitute for the entire Crawley family Oh warming you make that sound brilliant I mean obviously that that their peers that were together I think a couple of times are both dating I mean it's a joy to watch those two battle as well it started like that and then suddenly Isabel Crawley started almost coming into challenger on purpose strange besties that's very kind ladies but you see I don't approve of these costumes I see them as the uniform of oppression I should be uncomfortable wearing them are you quite finished I have good movie that was one of my first scenes with her where I had dialogue with her and I was genuinely terrified and into that room is really cheeky thing to me on one of our first days so really early on in filming the scene was about to start with the director said dude could you just do a bit of a delivering at the top so it looks like we're joining you mid conversation and they were in action and she said pardon so to be there with the line and I mean it's so noisy really made us laugh I think I just the whole thing in that scene was that he had didn't have his tails on time funny because she does it to her song migraine tails and she thought it was very uncouth yeah yeah I won't sleep a wink tonight or tomorrow Sybil about there it is no substitute for wit line how young we all look hair go through many many different changes another great Maggie light yeah I think that Vincent knows where we give it back a little yeah but Sybil was the rebel you know so I think that was very much her character that she would you know I think I'd always give it back we all laugh quite openly with and at granny you know even in the film when we say you just need to take off your hat to stay for dinner and she says you talk as if that were easy and you know it's we all have a good laugh yeah we all know what she's like as you do with your grandparents tonight always she goes yeah so I think they're all a bit like that we violet but he doesn't drive so I told her I could do it Oh what I said I could drive the tractor ages you are related not toad of Toad Hall doing it in Wind in the Willows the character toad who is this off over the top frog and he has a telephone oh he's absorbed posh toad who one point in the books takes up giant dragon very erratic very erratic and goes poop poop and crashes the car a lot so that's what she was a cutie it's just that look as well that man he gives us the territory countess's so withering quite wonderful the way you see room for improvement wherever you look whenever new search performing single I take that as a compliment I must've said it because we marry doesn't really laugh as well all that much especially in those days well though that day was hilarious do you was very funny the flower show there was all of these things being judged sort of flowers and what was the biggest vegetable on things and there was some Jam eclairs oh yes that cuz it was sweaty and is no funny I think it all shiny and he said yes darlings cuz they're nervous they know they're being judged lots of silly things that day we were very mean to each other in the ice it seems you like about my hat about something about those shoes in that hat or something dressing at her I mean we were vicious to each other in that first series yet vicious there's no logic in it oh no what if I were to search for logic I should not go for it among the English shop but back then I think we did a lot more of that crossing the room and having conversations with more yeah yeah and I mean I haven't really been upstairs and I was still kind of getting my bearings and and in any of these scenes I was still of a seat just delighted to be still in the show yeah yes I like it when she does those lines I wish she finds it yeah yeah and she makes the self blah and another thing I mean neat it isn't getting any younger perhaps isn't cut out for domestic life buddy your hair look great in that one movie away from Argentina expect hardly any English but he did do a fantastic mess in a wave and they so say you know Julio it's time you like yes I know that was very funny I love doing that because the relationship with Edith and you know she sort of pulled her through a lot of that time when she was a bit depressed but even when she was being encouraging it still came out like an insult that niggle that the dowager does is often to try and push someone on try something yeah rather than so it's almost encouragement but in a very backhanded way granny what do you think no it is you I thought it was a man wearing your home it was funny because the year before I cut my own hair into a bob hoping that Julian would just let me have my own hair you know Mary hung Bob and he said oh no it's too soon so then I had to have a wig to make it look longer and then eventually I grew my hair and then he said now we're ready for the phone and I love it in the film it kind of follow suit so everybody's getting gone you know thanks for watching hope you enjoyed it
