hello everyone and welcome back to another minecraft update video this one is about 1.17 the caves and cliffs update which is the next major update to the minecraft game it's set to release sometime around summer 2021 and it will combine two aspects together first of all something fans have been asking for for a long time a cave update to minecraft the second thing is going to be the winner the 2019 minecon live a biome vote which was the mountain biome those two things and many more are in this update and we learned about all of this at the minecraft live streaming event which took place earlier this day this also included a mob vote where players could pick one of three mobs to be included in the game and that's the first thing we're going to focus on in this video one of these mobs is the moo bloom which is actually from the minecraft earth game it is essentially a yellow cow with flowers on its back similar to a mushroom and that flower is the butter cup which might also get included with this mob its home is most likely going to be the flower forest biome and possibly like in earth it can leave a trail of flowers wherever they wander it's also been confirmed that they will interact with bees the next mob is the glow squid which is also from minecraft earth it's essentially an atmospheric mob a variant of squid that likes the deep and dark of the oceans but they're also going to be rather visible as they themselves are illuminated however they don't actually emit any light despite being a glow squid and the third mob is the isologer which is from minecraft dungeons it's an illegal that can attack the player with clouds of ice and it will be found in snowy icy and mountainous terrain and this one just happens to be my personal favorite of the free so we'll find out at the end of this video which one won the vote but for now we're going to check out this massive update which has taken the team a long time to design they've been doing play style mapping so that they can include something for every type of minecrafter and obviously there are big changes to the caves that you're seeing right now you might notice that ores are glowing this is a purely demonstrational thing to light up the caves and to give you a sense of scale and thanks to implementing 3d biomes which they did a few updates back these cave biomes can now range in size they can overlap with all sorts of features leading to huge caverns and narrow tunnels and there's also a local water level which allows some of the caves to be flooded and generate waterfalls into other ones and have underground lakes it is just simply superb and there is so much more to see the first of these new cave biomes we're going to check out are the drip stone caves and immediately you're going to notice the stalagmites and the stalactites they are not blocky and this was quite a bold decision but the more i look at it the more i think it actually works and this is going to be an immersive yet dangerous environment as stalagmites can drip water into cauldrons and fill them up they can also fall from the ceiling and cause harm to any entity that's nearby and if an entity falls on a stalactite they're gonna take some damage so you'll have to be cautious when navigating through this biome the next one we're gonna see is the lush caves full of new foliage and blocks i'll do my best to list all of them first of all the azalea tree a new tree type is what leads you to them you'll notice it has some flowery leaves at the bottom of each of these trees where the roots go into the ground that's how you'll find your entrance into this new cave type which is lighter and brighter in general it is full of all sorts of foliage here there are spore blossom flowers which drip particles and can actually be moved so you can bring some atmosphere to your base that way there are fully sided grass blocks or so they appear to be these are actually moss blocks and they come with a carpet variety as well a very thin layer that can be placed over other blocks there are also miniature looking tree blocks in here upside down flowers and a light emitting block known as glowberry these are actually edible so a new food source as well as a new light source and there's also a drip leaf plant that can be a temporary platform and essentially this is just a platforming block for parkour players right here the drip leaf you can stand on it but if you do for too long it starts to sag and then eventually you the player will fall through it along with caves there's going to be an underground structure known as the crystal geode when you walk through the crystal geode actually makes a tinkling sound to really add to the atmosphere but this structure is going to add two new rock blocks and two new crystal blocks and on them grow amifest crystals and they grow in four stages but what's interesting about this is that they can grow on all side of the block but that block can't be moved meaning that in order to make farms out of these crystal geodes you have to travel all the way to where you discover them in the world and of course they're going to be super rare now there is a use for these crystals and that is to create a telescope which you can use to zoom in kind of like using the optivine zoom key it would appear that you actually have to hold the telescope in order to use the zoom feature and it has this kind of like circle zoom in effect which i actually think is really quite comedic in a way and i really like that this is coming to the game now heading back underground this next clip is a rather long one it was the introduction during the live event to the warden mob which i gotta say i am really quite excited by and you'll notice there's a new type of stone here and there's some other very interesting blocks we're going to learn a bit more about in a moment but this is what's called a deep dark biome and you'll notice how the light kind of disappears briefly and comes back again this looks like a really spooky aspect of the game that they're adding and the water mob itself is terrifying and really strong but it works on a new mechanic called vibrations well i don't know what it's actually called but essentially this mob will sense vibrations player movement and things that they're doing like placing blocks down will attract them as opposed to line of sight so the water mob is actually a blind mob and we're about to see in just a second you might notice there are some candles so another new light source being added in this game but the water mob is actually really strong as well as being scary and in this video the player is wearing full nether right gear and we're going to see them uh yeah get attacked by this mob now notice how it moves to where the snowball lands that's because it goes towards the vibrations right it's looking for a player but the player has to move about and make noise to attract the warden or it can use projectiles maybe an arrow to send it in a different direction but here it is it's now coming after the player and it is absolutely terrifying especially with that effect where the cave goes dark briefly and then comes back again anyway quite a few shots are being landed here on an unenchanted boat and eventually this thing starts charging towards our player here again we're in full nether right armor and you're gonna see it only takes what one one hit and the health is below half another hit and they're out a very very tough mob and i think now's a good time to let you know i'm trying to include every single bit of footage that we got from this live event i'm not going to cut out a single thing and also while we're at it if you're enjoying the video go ahead and subscribe when this update comes out and the snapshots start to arrive i will be covering them in full detail like i always do so make sure to hit that subscribe button and learn all about 1.17 when we can finally get our hands on it so after learning about the warden you're probably quite curious to what those other blocks were well they're known as skulk growths and you can see there's like three or four different types of them over here and one that we're going to learn about is the skulk sensor this is going to be able to help you make wireless redstone which is definitely an exciting thing but what it does is it detects vibrations things like blocks being activated like this piston which is actually currently on a loop or footsteps from a player a block being placed or broken and one of the things that can actually dampen these vibrations is wool so you'll see now the piston being activated isn't on a loop because the wall block the vibration from getting to the shulk sensor and of course they wanted to show off the wireless redstone and they gave us this demonstration right here you can see the vibrations are essentially sent in a diagonal line up and onwards up to the firework rocket at the end when we take a look again in just a second pay attention to the particles there are little particle effects moving across showing where the vibrations go from one place to another anyway it's pretty obvious this is a massive change for redstone heading back underground to the lush caves we're going to be introduced to a mob that lives in them this is the axolot mob i'm probably pronouncing it incorrectly and it lives inside of the lush caves in the watery areas because it is a water mob it's also a companion mob as well it can come on adventures with you because you can pick it up with a bucket of water similar to a puffer fish and there is a yellow type of them as well you'll see some concept art here and i was wondering if that was a puffer fish in the bucket but no there is both a pink and a yellow variant of this mob now in this next clip we're seeing a player go on a raid of a ocean monument and bring it along with them an army of axelots and they have a special ability the ability to play dead but one thing you'll notice here is that they are the natural enemy of the guardian you can see they go and attack it and i believe they may attack any other mobs the player does as well as for the playing dead thing i think you kind of see it for a second in this clip but i'm not really sure and i don't have more details to tell you but check out this gorgeous art right here as you can see this update has a lot of contrast in it and what about those mountains well this screenshot is actually all i've got from the show to share with you you can see it's a massive overhaul for this biome it'll also include a powdered snow block that the player can sink into and leather boots are going to be the only thing that lets you walk on powdered snow without walking in these biomes will also be home to the goats and featured in this video they're not actually in the overhauled biome at this point in time but you'll see that they have an incredible jumping ability and a huge amount of knockback when they attack as well so they're going to be both vicious and kind of adorable in my opinion and you know what else is adorable this wonderful concept art right here but moving on they're adding copper ore a new or type in this update and these are going to be in all veins which i didn't feel like they explained particularly well but supposedly introduces a new layer of strategy when mining now this stuff can be turned into copper blocks and they have a special feature they will actually age over time and the copper will slowly turn from orange to green which is fantastic and i counted the days in this time lapse it is 16 so roughly 16 days in the world and your copper changes from one color to another there also won't be any new armor or tools made with copper just the blocks you see in this video which includes the stairs there is something that you can make with copper and that is a lightning rod now lightning in this game can set a light to wood so you could build a wooden structure and then return to the game to find out that it's been burned down so a solution to this is to attract lightning to a copper lightning rod and this could potentially emit redstone signals and will probably most likely be used to make charged creeper farms of course now this next clip showcases bundles which is moyang's attempt to address inventory management the mass of items in the game the clutter that fills up your inventory constantly this is essentially going to be a bag that can hold a stack of items but the trick is you can put any type of item into it so it could hold 64 unique items and then that way you can just chuck in all the clutter that accumulates inside of your inventory and personally i don't really think this is a great way to do it you can see how it works here i can't help but feel you're then going to end up managing bundles all the time and they're just going to lie around full of junk i'm not entirely sure about this but obviously you've got to play with it to really know so we'll have to wait and see now this next one is a big deal they're going to be adding archaeology into the game and there is a lot to this you will find archaeological dig sites and you will have brushes to then go down and interact with what seems like normal dirt and gravel blocks and you'll be able to brush away layers of these looking for little artifacts and these artifacts can actually break during the process now everything that you're seeing is apparently developer art which is different from the artists creating the textures so don't judge it purely by how it looks as you're going to see some of the textures here aren't so favorable but anyway the player is just brushing away these blocks you saw that one unfortunately broke however in a moment we're going to see them get successfully collected and also uncovering whole blocks like an emerald block so this could be a good way just to discover valuable things inside of the game but i like the idea of them leaving little archaeological sites inside of the minecraft world and one of the things they want to do is let the players create their own story about the minecraft origin story so these little things that they will find will be kind of ambiguous and let you tell your own story now the two little artifacts collected so far are supposed to represent a couple of things i think one of them is a dragon and anyway they have a unique ability to be painted onto clay pots which we're just gonna see in a second here as the player goes up the ladder so you can see some organized artifacts that have been collected again this is all developer art so the final product should look a little better than that but the idea is that they tell elements of the minecraft story and then the really cool thing here is that they're going to be able to be used to be put onto these clay pots which are just over here and you can see some have already been put on so the player can walk up to them with a little artifact do a right click probably and put it onto the clay pot and then they can also cook it into a full pot where it then gains the terracotta color all the way around so this will be able allow you to make really unique items that are you know kind of very customizable and possibly then get thrown into details for builds and little tricks like that so this offers up a lot of options for the players it does however look like it's in the early stages of development and possibly has a long way to go yet and at the live streamed event the main game wasn't the only thing talked about if you're a fan of minecraft earth new mobs are coming along in the future and if you're a fan of dungeons there's a new dlc called howling peaks there's also going to be a free update that introduces apocalypse plus which is a harder game mode and in the future they're going to bring in some levels that really tie the game back to its roots as you can see there's a lot of familiarity here between this and the main game jens also popped in to talk about the combat update he's working on which he wants to have the same feel whatever platform you're playing it on which reminds me this update 1.17 is going to be a parity release meaning in summer of 21 it's going to come out on the pc at the same time as the console and all the other versions of minecraft so there's one thing left for 1.17 and it's the mob vote the mob that's going to be added is the glow squid i've got to say i feel let down personally that one was the least interesting of the three to me but there you go the minecraft community has voted and the glow squid will be the mob added to 1.17 and that is everything my friends be sure to leave a like on this video if you want to support it subscribe if you want to catch the 1.17 update stuff and also over on my second channel you can find a link to the description box down below i plan on adding just a casual chat about my thoughts and feelings around this update that'll probably come out a couple of hours from now but anyway thanks for watching and i'll see you soon bye-bye
