how's it going everybody Cory Robin here I've got a chip in my propeller I am on my way to Mike Patty's place down in Spanish Fork Utah we're gonna fix a couple of minor little chips in the car pick up propeller so welcome to the party I'm Corey Robin right along with me and the flying Cowboys as we take you flying into the backcountry where there's no runway required [Music] Bacchus over Super Cub is short final now or only 3 0 . all right I'm gonna shut everything down awesome thanks for coming ok we're here with Mike Beatty or we're gonna get his verdict on the little Knicks in the back of the propeller well yeah there's nothing on the front on the power a little too aggressively on a really gravelly Wow yeah a little different I know how to fix it ok we'll get this no problem alright so what we're doing here is we're sanding just the resin around the carbon I am gonna send the carbon just enough to get a little scoring on it so the resin bonds well now I'm just trying to bleed it out and make sure I don't have any white spots like that I gotta cut that out with the knife that's just fast we good so we'll fill this whole back up with resin put some peel ply on it so it stays and doesn't sag well it dries overnight and then we'll sand layers back down and make it disappear this is that I want two layers total okay because that's gonna give me something to build our resin out to and then we got to take the whole thing off to about here nice we got the propeller prepared now mike is going to work his magic with some resin and some peel ply check this out alright this is my messy table I got a medium hardener and a fast that's the time it takes to set because we're gonna let this sit overnight I'm gonna use my medium and you can see it automatically mixes it puts the right proportions in it that is way cool and then we'll just mix it up it's like a serious composite shop around here yeah it looks messy you know you're actually doing something right I'll let you stir that I will stir it and that's more than enough resin I need my clothes all right this is our that's resin this is our tray go to work sand it prep it masked it off I think we mentioned the tape we've taken down several layers obviously one layers to keep the resin off the rest of the prop but the other build up layers is so that when I squeegee between I have some resins thicker than what I need and then we sand back down to the original it's the only way to get a really good blend so what we're gonna do now is called basting it actually is a really important step you just get a little bit on your finger and you just grind it in you're pressing it into the crevices and any yeah also if there was a speck of dust in there it grabs it pulls it out mixes it in and then it's part of the part if there's any carbon fiber that's residue so we'll just hit well based each one of these now what I'm gonna do you come look over here I'm actually gonna get the tape around it and it's really only for the purpose of holding the peel ply so it sticks doesn't fall off while we're working let me a piece about three by four I don't want the peel ply to wrap around the corner or it actually lifts it so we're gonna do this just so you're putting excess resin on the pill ply and that's what's going to fill in that thickness right correct this is where we know we're gonna make a mess now the duct tape that's what it's here for now you see how we just spread that and don't put a lot of pressure and now the peel ply is bridging the thicker tape area and the resin is staying thick right there you could take this off the plane and you wouldn't need to use tape because you could just let it sit oh sit flap sit flat but go ahead give me some more I just didn't want to adjust the picture my propeller again I'm lazy to take on the prop off it's not as little as I can do do you do I not want it to go over the top correct we're gonna have to cut that just hold the bottom fill that back we're gonna just do this if it goes over the top it won't lay flat perfectly making is a squeegee and don't squeegee it out you're trying to use just flattening this big laughs that turn it across the tape and then we'll leave it high because of the tape thickness I like that perfect then there's one more F let you go ahead and start make up in the next one I'll take this one yeah I think we can see that without it's got a nice perfect little bubble we're gonna call that good sorry it's too short at a perfect is perfect all right so what you have here is Beauty personified hidden underneath those layers of tape okay standing right into the paint the tape all right guys so we've got the prop done check it out no holes anywhere nice [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] alright so we just fixed the propeller on the cob worked out really well and I'm on my way back to my home airport going through the vortices of the point of the mouth what the air does when when two mountains kind of converge together and there's a valley in between them and two big valleys and there's a southerly wind it creates a venturi really is what it does and it compresses the air and accelerates you through so I'm doing 112 miles an hour over the ground right now it's a little cross II from the right this will be fun get on video I'll set my right wheel down first and see how long I can hold not artificially though I'll just set it down and we'll come in a little hot but I want it to land right front of taxiway here but we'll see if we get her done at this right wheel language what is pretty good good crosswind there we go there we go left wheels down I love Prospect landings I think they're just so fun it's just different you don't always get that because we always build these airports into the wind for good reason but boy that's fine still got the tail up bales still up tails still up gonna pull off the taxiway tails still up imma go ahead set it down because the wind bit and switch my ailerons over so that they're bad the right way there we go we're off the ground my hangar [Music] you [Music]
