I wonder how well a stiff TPU would do in this application in terms of crashes, all told though it held up really well on impact
I don't think the "battery exploded" was the begining of the sequence of failure here. I think those wires overheated, melted the insulation, shorted, overloaded the battery which then caused it to fail. With no independent low-current power source for the receiver & servos, flight control was lost at the same time as power to the engines failed, and a crash is inevitable.
Perhaps maiden flights should be shorter in order to test for overheating components.
