as we head back into the stadium for the final heat of this men's decathlon and there we can see certainly the favorite as Peter has mentioned Kevin my ear the reigning world champion the man to beat and another young exciting talent here for Great Britain the Northern Ireland the reigning collegiate champion from the in the US Tim Duckworth and there's the favorite we mentioned the reigning world champion World Indoor champion from France Kevin my heir big supporting crowd here for the Frenchman in Lane 7 we see Marty in row from Norway and on the outside lane the third German in the field and a contender for a medal certainly our to Avila one European silver indoors in 2015 and he's also got a huge supporting crowd there with him so quickly again we've got carry only in lane to salary three district with five my year six road seven and Avila in eight and my air and the Estonian get out the blocks very well but Duckworth here having a fantastic race as he stays close with the world champion but it looks like heaven my ear just got that on the line there very closely followed by Tim Duckworth and Estonia's Col Robert salary I think my ear gets it here with 1064 and a personal best which is a great way to start off a decathlon always gives you confidence Duckworth just one hundredths of a second behind the Frenchman closely behind him well this was a terrific start to the decathlon by my Riyas away from the gun very well third from the left there beautifully relaxed sprinting right the way through to the line and he beat several men who's got quicker personal bests than him duck witted very well though he was a little short of his BB excellent start there for Kevin higher fully justifying his status as favorite the man who's the world champion and the Olympic silver medalist you can see it's showing he's got a personal best going through our below there with 1086 they go into that event with Kevin Myer in the lead 942 two points ahead of Duckworth and salary' close up of course situation will change considerably as we go through the 10 events of the de Caston we've got the leader may sell way bolete european ranking leader i should say well down there as you can see man 23rd place that's hope for his sake that he can pick up from that Peter Brown 7th two years ago in these championships and the under-23 champion the year before that so still had a youngster man with the personal best long jump of 771 so one of the better men in the field ah that's a good start again that green line showing the best mark so far and that was where I looked over 750 maybe check on that in just a moment so decent standard here remembering that in the long jump qualifying for the men yesterday they would it's not many got over I think what there were three over eight meters 780 or so was enough so a decent standard here Brown the second best of the day so far we've got the young British athlete Tim Duckworth now the long jump is a great event for him 803 this season totally the best long jumper in the field if he can just produce one there well that's not what he'd have looked for but it's a valid jump and that's what matters it's got the white flag and a respectable jump but some way short of his custom standard that we have seen from him this season competing of course in the American collegiate season in Egypt champion brilliant break through there he got 757 after an opening no jumps kevin meyer all to play for in the last round the long jump because he's had to no jumps the big favorite for the title the world champion the olympic silver medalist needs to get a valley jump in in this last attempt he's a good consistent long jumper and he just into the plasticine on his previous jumps [Applause] it's a long one a very long one but that is one of the sensations of the championships the red flag went up Kevin Mayer is out of the long jump that gives him no points and that really scuppers any chance you may continue but it really scuppers any chance he has of a medal well just shows what can go wrong in a multi events he was only Justin than Oh jump in the previous rounds I think it's a bigger no jump so he really went for it and and it was a fine jump that was to be around 770 but those precious few centimeters have cost him the chance of being the big favorite near the gold medal be devastating for the Frenchman isn't it like he's crying I would be crying I'm composed to tears such a fantastic competitor such a talented athlete but it also means it leaves so much room open for a lot of the young talented athletes coming through scaring off in the long jump this dramatic long jump really which has seen the elimination of both Beluga and Maia [Applause] it was before school you know certainly a major contender for a medal again that green line showing around 750 so he's around that area so he can be really happy was his morning's work and pretty well in the hundred meters earlier as well she's his best in the long jump was 753 pretty good on the board really they're just allowing a few centimeters and improvement throughout and he ends up with the season's best of 755 they're so good news for the Russian authorized neutral athlete and there is the situation that Martin row of Norway had the best jump at 761 a personal best and Duckworth of Britain Schoen of Russia but no points there from Maya or Braga Weibo the leader in the standings coming in here and never best there so for men no valid job and all of them I mean three out of the four French athletes that's quite surprising that's eliminated the entire decathlete contingent do you think I've ever seen that one before happening so there we are those are the points now pop in there certainly a major contender now for a medal perhaps even the gold with Meyer gone with shop quarter-sawed that personal best and he's a good shouter too well over 15 meters and he's had a really good season in the shop but this year he said a personal best in writing and off 1593 so that's very close to his personal best there [Applause] 1564 for our belated there so far she's his yaku we saw start off with a foot over 15 meters and that sir looks better that's one over 15 meters for shook so a good good competition for him and in fact this turned out to be a personal best it was 15 meters 65 for the Belarusian so again he will there there with the leading points chorus I think once we add that tin move into the top six or eight or so now matches bruger no jumps in the long jump but he's continuing so let's see what he can do in the shot oh that's a tremendous putt that's probably a personal best for Gregor so he's put aside the disappointment of the long jump which obviously cost him any chance of a medal than no points there but he has responded to the big occasion with a very fine effort indeed in the shotput competition and there it is a personal best 1592 personal best by half a meter for the young German but I think that's what a home championship does for you even the disappointment of having a no measure in the long jump knowing that you have the full crowd behind you knowing that your teammates are competing with you it just makes sense if you're feeling good to still get these marks in and just use it as a training competition almost and now this is the wild outs has been happening Lida castle and shot have been finishing that magnificent put by matches Kruger his personal best was the best shot of the day 1592 quite a number of men over 15 meters that's just continuing the rest of them Tim Duckworth pretty good in fact by his lights only 10 centimeters off his personal bests 1361 to maintain his position Kevin Maya did not attempt gone out in the long jump so the situation after three events is that Martin row leads it to 673 Artur a belay 2/6 3/6 salary two-six two-nine Duckworth two five nine six now the high jumps next and he's a fine high jumper could be that Duckworth takes the lead after that event in fact so it is very close at the top as we pan down the rest some of those athletes of course like who we bow will have a much stronger second day so we'll see how they go the bar and the high jump is 208 so Samuel song attempting to equal his lifetime best here saw him clear 205 I will he go at this new height yes and he's done it well he had a lifetime best I said at or eight that was indoors and he's now raised his outdoor best by a centimeter once again confirming what Phil told you earlier a man to rise to the big occasion the bar is at 217 he's already cleared an outdoor best at two 14 to 17 from the young britain oh what a magnificent job yeah well over wasn't very huge and that equals his indoor personal best that is some serious jumping here from their young britain trains at the University of Kentucky where the likes of course of Sydney McLaughlin Kendra Harrison Omer McLeod are also all based and I'll tell you what is a point of interest when you're comparing Duckworth's personal bests where Daley Thompson the former world record holder now then that's the high jump I wonder if perhaps ticked up to yeah listen looks like Tim Duckworth is called it a day having cleared 217 963 points and that means that he's now well clear with a good event Furman to come a reasonable event anyway in the forge meters but of course the big shock in that event was Kevin Mayer gotten that line up did three no jumps three big no jumps marginal no jumps but no points in the long jump and just one thing quickly just before then Tim Duckworth now has a lead of a hundred and nineteen points Arve Martin the river with Samuelson now up into third and our belay who's probably still the favorite in form and the second-best high jumper in that field was Nicholas Cowell who we're currently seeing here in 14th position which doesn't say anything because he has an amazing second day and so we're having two very young athletes currently very promising performances so far those two now we have one race the fastest men in the decathlon so Duckworth a belay ruga Sally Ori cow Gardo Zook the last action of the 400 meters in this first day of their event in these 2018 european championships duck was in lane two leading the standings off they go and his final event strong charge by Gardo with france out there in lane seven as well try to make the stagger on soup but when the fair-haired salary of Estonia has got off perfectly well with burger the German inside him Duckworth is made up for stagger on our belay and in he's every point he can get against the German because he's got a weaker second day so a really determined effort here by celery the young Estonian second to Duckworth in the American collegiate championships earlier this year and a brilliant run can he hold on because he's been challenged on his inside the crowd conceals the German Luger but then a belay a Duckworth is fading badly here well look at the finish by Gardo coming through Gardo takes it on the line where was all changed was some very tired men their guard oh just the line bruger in second place 47 66 much the fastest time of the four races shown there on the clock but a disappointment for young Tim Duckworth who faded badly towards the end of the race soit early in the shot put with Braga who's coming there very strongly and gather on the outside with an incredible finish for the Frenchman so both of these first two won't have a say in the final standings but with great individual performances and it's fantastic to see them keeping going here as the decathlon progresses the 48 101a below the clear favorite are for me in the decathlon gada winning in 47 65 druga 47 86 and a belay 4801 and that final event of the decathlon so as such that Duckworth does still hold on for 380 quite a big lead over our belief but there certainly like the way he's been going on lure in third place with Samuelson in four we vote the leader understandings only in 15 so this is the second race in here the cast and ironing that is completing the lineup because we did originally have Andrew lights on our start list and of course we saw him go out in eat one on our way no problem second town Alaska and it gets stopped by Lucas of the Czech Republic is pretty much line 4 line score not though now making his presence felt and still you're not coming today with Charlie of Italy on the inside scorn of it is who's going to take this and a very strong finish there from may sell weebo may take him into second place so the most experienced competitors really thriving there that's going off giving a running time of 14 44 which equals his season's best and weebo giving 1457 in second place away with a man with the great men with the greatest experience coming into this race and indeed they went clear of the field in the end károlyi taking the third spot places dark mana the Italian car oles delighted because he's very close to his personal best and matched his season's best there it is worth noting that score any off actually has a personal best of 1395 which is very fast question is of course whether he has in a decathlon but there we can see he's already getting ahead of the field three hurdles in striding away there and now is when myself rebo is starting to move past the rest of the field and is going into that second spot there sh quran you've hit that last hurdle pretty badly but still very comfortable it's tough for these youngsters he's competed in the junior ank's up until last year so the transition to the seniors is a lot harder for these guys and I think that's what's showing he's still so young and it's just an adjustment that you have to make wonderful experience there for him as opposed to the very experienced girl you know hasn't shown his top form this year but he's certainly going to be competing solidly here in this event and he's rewarded with a victory in 14.4 for semi-final stage just watch out for it's a tough date perhaps for the 200 meter men with the semis tonight so into the running of duck but certainly spoken excellent start but so to Urania the Spaniard and now look at a ballet come through a ballet the process in the field although huge roar from the crowd as alpha a ballet comes clearly to win in second place was urania and he has broken 14 seconds for a season's best enough for all the trouble but after a ballet has had with injuries over the years really good to see him back in the form that he has shown well is a k2 go and he's there got a time there of 13 94 I'm sure he ought to be delighted without Michelle absolutely it's so good to see him back out of in the last 12 seasons and he's had to sit six of them out injured so it's fantastic to see him be back on the big stage in front of a home crowd seasons best there for him and as you said he is a very very accomplished hurdler his personal best from the European Championships in Zurich 2014 13 55 that ranks him safe in the decathlon over the hurdles in the all-time list so very very accomplished hurdler but there you can see didn't get the best of stars you can they're in Lane six that's Yarra Mitch the fella is getting out strongly but now look at the ground he makes up on Urania they're in second and very similarly to score any off hits that last hurdle pretty rough but they're so strong on the hit almost doesn't seem to bother them there's a ballet winning that final race in 1394 from urania 1439 and Duckworth 1455 982 points for our ballet Duckworth will retain his overall lead in the event but the gap is narrowing and Archer are below they are currently ranked in second just 18 points short so those are the standings and we'll be following them the great interest throughout the day now the discus continuing of course for the decathletes and here's the Russian authorised neutral athlete Ilya screw you know decent discus thrower personal best of 4604 just seen we both row over 45 meters and yeah that looks good for skiing of two that's over 45 as well I think so happiness all around an excellent start of the very experience going off European bronze medalist in 2012 and 2014 we'll have Tasman champion as well [Applause] that throws slightly ahead of Weaver's in fact so now it is 45:53 the noise increases in the stadium which was sir few more spectators in and when we started the morning when our ballet started his campaign and day two and the herders now here he is in the discus for his third and final throw [Applause] rising on the crowd noise I'm not sure it's any better but it's a good consistent series Nabal a thanks the crowd [Applause] 44:24 just a meter down on the previous best to use achieved today [Applause] final attempt here for our Bella it's a former gymnast and then injured himself at the age of eleven fell five meters down and had to quit gymnastics and now he's attempting to jump over nearly five meters then 480 final attempt for the event leader for our table neither of his first two attempts came even close to clearing it so you'll have to do better now nope also nearly selling the box there but that is a little disappointed respond amen only one successful clearance but nonetheless 460 which gains in 790 points given that he's got brilliant javelin and 1500 meters ability he's I still still well clear in the gold medal spot and probably 460 was all he actually needed of course he'll be disappointed not to have gone on and got more points in the bag and it's interesting because we have seen Frederick samwell's and struggled quite a bit as well at the previous height who could have done better shifter questo now his first attempt at 510 in the pole vault no failures so far to his credit I know more still he goes on and on terrific Jim Duckworth 510 it's just incredible yes he has done 520 outdoors 526 indoors so it's not really a surprise of course but just great that he can produce his best or near to his best when it comes to such a major championship because he's still pretty inexperienced apart from on the American collegiate scene it's been several to Catharines and which is cleared by 30 so he's got something to think about something to remember once again he's figuring in a vine competition between the best of them [Applause] five-thirty attempt number two for school you know Oh wonderful yeah he's adding a lot of points here to his tally in this event that is really splendid competition and he there's a very big crowd just round there and he's thanking them that gets him over the thousand point level I think that's the first time we've seen over a thousand in any event here a thousand of four points is what five meters 30 translates into on the international scoring tables season's best for the Russian competing as an authorized neutral athlete is the light and the crowds delight well that's as big a tribute to the crowd as we've seen here in any event so the decathlon pole-vault resulted in school or being the best vaulter but five meters thirty four thousand four points Gardo getting 520 duckworth going back into the lead with five meters ten because he earned substantially more points than our belay who cleared for sixty there's yoga Iranian no height unfortunately so that's the end of this competition and there's any other men who have dropped out cow second row it's going fast art and I and that's easily the best we've seen that's getting closer to 70 remember just 20 years of age thousand two hundred five points this year instead his Bester replacement in the German team that throw 67-72 here we got our table the German we've seen Nicholas Cowell the young German lead that first group of deep athletes in the travelers and now again a very strong Jabberjaw I was very close to his personal best though his personal best 71 89 and that was better than his season's best and that could just about seal it for the gold medal in Chile how many still well the 1500 to come but that was an excellent start you may get more points but that will probably take him back ahead of Duckworth into the lead because that's 68 10 860 points so you had to see how far the young British as we can go but he's got a personal best of 57 meters Batali's shook is having a very steady series of performances throughout the days yeah that continues obviously with a 65 meter ish throw there in the javelin it well in the pole vault before then he was hitting for decent position I think in the decathlon overall it was 66 meters 19 and improvement and this is scary enough in the javelin with the second row of the competition screwing off very much in the battle for a medal in this event in the 1500 meters to come brought himself into contention with her magnificent pole-vaulting 530 javelin not one of his best events for the personal bestest over 63 meters but he thought that he gets a decent punt off here because as I say he's in strong contention with a Belize the leader now who you know following him and that throw well it was an improvement 59 13 after wait Tim Duckworth in the javelin started with a no throw but he's got a good one out here I think well relatively good of course he's only got a personal best of 57 meters but getting close to 55 so he's still in the top three in the overall competition and we are expecting unfortunately him to be hit rather by 1,500 meters he's improved quite a lot of that event but is still outside five minutes and that's nowhere near someone like Avila who has run say 15 or Korean orphans run for 25 [Applause] he's done very very well but he's got some weaknesses still which has got to recover from and as it is they're fifty four seventy eight least he kept going and improving with each round well there it is the results of the jump in our belay 6810 Carl 67-72 as the two Germans did the best Jam Lynn throws of the event so that means that there's just one event to go and with that one event to go our ballet has a very big lead a hundred and two point seven six nine two over Duckworth with those caption results coming through far too quickly nevermind we know what happens at the top [Applause] hopes have Germany very much on this man shoulder matches bruger might have been there but for misfortune early on I was actually standing right next to us watching that race eagerly one of the few people standing up here in the crowd and now everybody is getting up for that final event I great to see the support and of course as we said before that he casted widely supported many stadia around the world it within the crowd would have half gone for this race they haven't here from mass field and off they go in the final event of the ten events of the decathlon contested eagerly over two days we've seen different athletes rising to the fore in their different events remember the numbers show the order that they are in the competition and it's artur a belay who wants to win this not just winning the event but winning it in style by winning the 1500 meters as well he need only finish way back in the pack to take the gold medal but that does not appear to be the way that he wants to go he wants to end in glory by winning the last event and what a way that would be to go indeed Nicholas Cole there currently at the back of the pack now moving up slightly because you know make up a few more points Tim Duckworth right second-to-last there as they go through that finishing line for the first time look at the distance our villa has put between himself and the rest of the field and I love that the Frenchman in second still competing despite not managing to record a mark in that long jump because we know that if athletes don't like assistance and now Niklas Cowell they're coming up to help our Bella cashing up and trying to close that gap so we've got two Germans they're leading the field we also saw a shot there Spearin of every chance of getting the silver medal here he wears number three so we must keep an eye out for him don't best long hair so he's a little bit further back obviously who'd you say Karl coming up traveling both of these are the fastest 1500 meters in the lineup Oh human guard oh the Frenchman you've mentioned his personal best is 420 so those are the classic we hunted me the runners there's Tim Duckworth sadly we knew what was going to happen he was going to go way back in the standings and really he had little chance for medal even though he came into this event in second place he's done really well bori youngster Samuelson now moving into fourth place overall score a novice now well place Curran of his in seventh eighth place rather at the back of the next group after the first three they were going well for him and if we look their account it almost seems to me as if he's behind our Valley along the lines of I got your back here as they are joined by the Frenchman had nothing to fear in terms of medals in the Frenchmen of course but good to see him contesting wanting to do as well as he likes almost operating as a bit of a pacer they're poor are below well I'm looking further down the field and I'm keeping an eye on Jacques and I think Cal has a fighting chance of getting the bronze medal if he carries on like this ok the gap between open foul is a hundred and twenty-eight points so that's something like 17 seconds just looking at the way things are going now he's running very well at this stage 17 seconds of courses a lot goes shook he's struggling without a doubt it's Nilsson incident you're not Samuelsson the leading Swede here who knows in fourth place as Carl who's passed away and also comes up onto the shoulder of Gardo one lap to go in the 1500 meters to conclude lead the captain Skuratov looks clear in second place as he's eighth overall and to Phil I know you're keeping a close check on how Jacques does if I counted maybe it's for ups and go right well it doesn't look like Avila is gonna win the last race that it could well be a German victory from cow that a belay is on the glory lap he may not win this race he may be overtaken by others chasing him but a belay is on the way to win the gold in the decathlon meanwhile up front Ruben Gardo had the misfortune on the first day but he's enjoyed himself here he's come through and competed well in a number of events he's not going to finish up very high up into the captain but he's going to win the final event the 1500 meters Gardo crosses the line Cowell has he done enough to move up even into a medal place he's in third place and we're looking for a belay is very tired he's coming across the line now a belay has got the gold medal he finishes just ahead of scaring off who has got the silver medal and we're going to have to wait to check out exactly what has happened for that bronze medal it's very tight indeed I'm not going to call it we were just waiting for the official results at the moment well cow ran for 2367 finishing behind guard Oh with 420 149 and here comes Tim Duckworth of Great Britain and is he gonna break five minutes for the first time no not quite it's just about equalled his personal best there and he's really done very well indeed it's a shot in position in some ways to have led the competition for so long and then end up with medals with a belay now overcome with emotion what a moment for him after his long history standing ovation from this crowd well-deserved and he gets the crown from valino as the European champion and what a journey it's been for the German six years of injuries out of 12 there's results from him from way back in 2007 he's had it all ruptured Achilles and everything and now he is the European champion overcome with emotion 8000 431 points confirmed there for the Germans it's gonna have the confirmation aren't sure of the decathlon standings here it is gold to auto a belay at 8000 431 points silver to Elias Korean or and the bronze medal to Catania [Applause] you
