as we are taking a look at the final lineup here in this women's heptathlon and this is the fastest heat of them and this has the big names in it a lot of contenders for medals here is the woman I briefly mentioned incredibly challenged athlete still just 23 years of age world athlete of the Year last year naffy T arm as she is called the Belgium tough to beat when she gets it right she is one of the strongest hipped athletes in the world One World Indoor title and Commonwealth title this year for Great Britain Northern Ireland Katerina Johnson Thomson now a crowd favorite here she's been around for quite a while very talented athlete silver medalist in London last year in the World Championships have Ollie Shaffer and right next to her another strong German the only athlete in this field who have gone sub 13 over the hurdles who is a golf order next to her a former world youth champion for the Czech Republic Caterina ChaCha they're in Lane six the French champion both indoors and out ester tapa and there we have in lane seven a former European under-23 champion trained with Ashton Eaton Umbreon Tyson eaten for a while based in the States great Sudoku another strong Estonian as we see often in the multi events and there we have the defending champion just one Dutch athlete in this field which is very rare to see in the heptathlon Anouk feta in their awake alphago already getting out there strongly built up quite the gap great Sudoku going well as well in Lane seven but now for the really showing her strength then Katerina Petrova I think following on behind her the check but water performance very close to her personal best there 1297 follow he's like alpha girl and she will be very delighted with that yes culture gets in an equal seasons best for the Czech 1329 Carolyn Schaeffer in third there 13:33 and that is slightly down on her season's best someone else will be very pleased at Katrina Johnson Thompson to run 13 34 easily a season's best and close to her personal best nephew T I'm just left a little bit further back but nothing really much to worry about she's lost a little ground but with this is probably one of her weakest events don't accept too much but left of the screen there she's probably further back than she would have liked absolutely but I mean next up of course is the high jump and the likes of Navi TM and Katarina Johnson Thompson of course both very dominant in that and performed an incredible item in Rio now feet um as you mentioned or both of Catarina and naffy both could be metal contenders in the individual Highjump here we have the results for that final heat a couple of seasons bests but girl fall they're really showing what is strong hurdler she is so they're the points in the heptathlon after that first event groffo go with a clear lead with 11 29 points from car Chava Shaffer Johnson Thompson Sadako Turpin just looking right the way down over a thousand points for 15 of them now PT I'm only 14th as we said not much to worry about but as a little bit down on what she might have looked for back to the high jump touch of a second attempt at 185 oh yes sir oh we said before that she looked to have that sort of potential to clear it and she's done just that so that matches her personal best and a personal best has actually been on the books since she was a teenager in 2010 now their nappy TM 191 in the high jump this is getting top class standard now as these two really good high jumpers can test this event too young same again I'm still not 100% comfortable with that run-up but he is so effective taking off there's just so much spring and height that's actually higher than any of the women needed to jump in their womens high jump qualifying they progressed and that was a beautiful parents seem to have got a bit to spare there very nicely done for our fleet from Liverpool up in the northwest of England yes so the bar goes up to 194 very quickly result of the high jump in the decathlon Johnson Thompson and TM getting 191 catch over 185 salving and a ditch 182 the standings in the events as we pan through and the points to rich they're high jumping has rewarded them shown right of the screen there until Ramos the Spanish record holder at 161 women's short in the heptathlon we've had the hundred meter hurdles and the high jump earlier and that's the standings after those first two events Johnson Thompson TM catch over a little bit clear of the two Germans Grove Vogel who particularly excel with easily the fastest time in the 100 meter hurdles 2:13 sub 13 second time big field 29 competitors there now then back in the so good let's have a look at better who improved substantially in the second round [Applause] and I think I see it further a little short for the excellent campaign in the third of the events 1535 it is indeed a new personal best fan a PTM in the shop good well there's situation in the women's short TM Gaines 884 points then better at aren't the next best shot put is Johnson Thompson pretty modest 1309 but better than she's done in many of her kept aspirants for 733 points catch überall well down the list so the standings that we had coming into this event to certainly be quite dramatically altered bro Vogel also losing a lot of ground there so there we have it now TM 3026 points exactly a hundred of Johnson head of Johnson Thompson shape and I moved up to the third relegating catch over to Paul the final race in the 200 meters the final race of day one of the heptathlon so the question how much grand can Katrina Johnson Thompson wake up on TM TM nine hundred and four points for 24 eight total and Katrina Johnson Thompson capable of very significantly bettering that she goes in Lane five Craner aren't margins crowd focal Johnson Thompson Shaffer dad itch and Vetter could start by graphical and Thompson Thompson making up ground on Schaefer outsider going pastor Robb Vogel though going with her these two going well cleared the rest appeal growl Vogel looking greater gain in Katrina Johnson Thompson doing her best to catch her down can she do that yes she can here comes kjt Katarina Johnson Thompson wins that you wanted me describe ogle in second place then it's pretty close between Craner on the inside and Schaffer further out and yes 2289 by Johnson Thompson she will go into the lead in the heptathlon after the first day because that is a 2288 in fact confirmed and the personal best of 2279 that's a magnificent performance and a championship best for a 200 meters in a Baptists plan here compared to any sills 2321 there's the result 2288 championship best for the heptathlon Johnson Thompson Grove Vogel 2310 arm - personal bests 2361 so - dad each from attaining her pressure in the event 2361 and then Schaffer and better there we are Johnson Thompson now leading by 87 points from Navi tiem a further 82 points back then to Schaefer in third place right that's as the heptathlon where we have the long jump as the first event of this second day now then the crucial jumps coming up in the long jump the third and final jumps for the top two in the heptathlon Johnson Thompson who leads the standings coming into this event the long jump and the starter was 644 okay with long way short of her best massive no jump in the second round how can she go here well it's not as big as that second jump but it has a white flag raised now let's see what the distance is because all my anticipations beforehand was she needed something special in the long jump she's really going to challenge TM hard in the overall competition 668 well it's a good jump to centimeters short of her seasons best but it's not as special as I think she might have needed because TM already has a 645 to her credit johnson thompson will unless TM can produce something here will widen the gap let's see how TM goes well that's a long way was it okay yes it was so T I'm really responding to the challenge he's a great competitor and the two of them are really on par so far if you look in terms of how they are pushing each other on we could see it in the high jump as he said faith slightly the leading contenders had a pretty good long jump competition so the standings now are now that johnson Thompson has 5,000 83 points 130 in ahead of TM dad it's inferred Shafer in fourth touch of ER in fish javelin will be next that I'm sure will make quite a significant difference to those standings and then late this evening we will end up with the 800 meters there is still a women's heptathlon javelin going on with a strong Belgian athlete very much a favorite for gold no Schaeffer roar from the cloud and it landed pretty flat but it did seem to be point first and that's a very fine throw indeed by Schaefer fully maintaining her strong challenger a metal here 53 69 her personal best before today and just coming through she's added a little bit to that 53 73 for Shaffer 932 points she's up to five 704 and that's only what fifty six points behind TM currently Brooks tall who showed her expertise at the javelin very clearly in the first round with over 55 meters and showing it again well over 55 meters couple of throws over 55 with Geraldine or rooks tool for Switzerland and of course she has an amazing story because she had a training accident in spring 2016 awkwardly fell on her jaw her intestine had to have emergency operation on that and then came back last year and performed that personal best of 50 a31 in the javelin lick chance then for nappy tiem to increase her lead in the heptathlon third and final throw in the javelin oh she seems to like it well wonder she likes it Wow that could well be a gold medal winning throw we've got the 800 to come and we know she's not so brilliant at that but that was brilliant [Applause] commentators around is all jumping up from their seats watch it through 57 91 well now that's worth a thousand and fourteen points and takes her up to five nine eight for a hundred and ninety-two points now ahead of Johnson Thompson big differences be made in rounds two and three of the javelin [Applause] one event to go Nephi TM leads the heptathlon 5980 four points 192 ahead of Katarina Johnson Thompson Shaffer is third Vetter is fourth dad itches fist catch over is six there are some quite big gaps there though and it would be unlikely unless something strange happens in the 800 meters for those first three positions to change at all so running down all those athletes they're all over 5,000 so far with one event to go as we take a look at the final 800 meter race Christians point scorers goes up to six three six seven and these are now the leaders Katarina Koch over who is lying in sixth place overall where she was in fact two years ago as well they never nerd a ditch the Amsterdam bronze medalist she's lying fish all the athletes wearing the placings to six events on their bibs so Anouk Vetter the defending champion where's number four for place in second it's Katrina Johnson Thompson's she's a very fine 800-meter runner ignore that personal best of the seasons best of 221 she can go much quicker than that but I don't think she can narrow the gap on the woman we're going to see and here she is the Olympic the world champions not be sat to TM from Belgium not a good 800-meter runner but nonetheless maybe Johnson Thompson can claw back a hundred points from her but the margin by which she leads is a hundred and ninety two Carolyn Shaffer looks set for the bronze medal to add to the world silver hasn't yet took on a European medal for two years ago tenth before that like nine Geraldine Brooks - who excelled in the javelin earlier today with a couple of throws over 55 meters World Youth Championship and line 8 is Verona pride er last year's World University Games champion Ryan age but just to recap the leading positions TM has 5 9 8 for Johnson Thompson 5 7 9 2 J 4 5 704 and Vetter 5 6 to 9 big gaps so off they go they have done six events already the fortunes of ebbed and flowed a bit nappy TM was just a little bit down in her first couple of events today yesterday and both she and Johnson Thompson pops a little below their best Earth 191 in the high jump the team responded with a personal best in the shot and she really has excelled today with 660 in the long jump and 57 91 so we see Johnson Thompson of course running strongly as we would have expected wore on the stadium for some field of an action which were bringing no doubt after this race TM well back to she'll just have to keep her sights on the women ahead of us she can afford to let Johnson Thompson here go much further out catch of her in second place t am back in was its seventh 63 75 by Johnson Thompson so on schedule for a very decent performance here in this heptathlon 800 meters which she's got a best of 207 64 good to see that she's really back in top form you know not win the gold medal but she is back having a brilliant season Commonwealth champion World Indoor champion naffy TM plodding along this is not her event but she's got a huge gap in it's particularly crucial for that was some brilliant javelin throwing with her first throw in the javelin and looked like it had opened the way for Johnson Thompson Carolyn Schaeffer heading for the bronze medal it's gone by the crowd here a few tiem a long way back but even so that gap between her and Johnson Thompson pretty much unbridgeable but what a very fine run indeed in a very fine season by Katrina Johnson Thompson who comes through and she'll take the silver medal but Schaefer also following catch of her is finishing very strongly she will take the silver medal but here comes the champion here comes nappy tiem to win the gold medal in the 800 meters Johnson Thompson's time to own 984 and it really is good to see that she was up to par and beyond it in some events and all events even her shot and disc and javelin throwers were by higher lights useful performances very very tired set of women of course Schaefer that lying there so to naffy TM TM we'll know that she's done enough here and got the time yet but we knew the gap was unbridgeable there we have the times coming through now slowly on the screen actually they're going too fast we've got them here in front of us to 984 for Katarina johnson Thomson to 1129 for Reiner to 1187 footage Schaefer to 1465 cat Shiva to 1491 rook still to 15 13 and naffy TM 12 to 1935 so that's not exactly great 8-under neither running but look at that there's the result 6 8 1 6 4 TM 6 7 5 9 for Johnson Thompson a personal best six six Oh tuned for Shafer a national record for Austria with Daddy overtaking better in that final event very high standard of performance there with six women at 6400 points or more tribute to the excellent condition as tributes wasn't great competition competition outstanding and we could just seen a PT I'm being handed the crown that archrival also got in the decathlon so really the multi event is their kings and queens of this european championships and they deserve it the results of the Hef Caston the gold medal going to naffy TM at six thousand eight hundred and sixteen points Katrina Johnson Thompson taking the silver and Carolyn Schaefer taking the bronze as we pan down the full list six women over six thousand four
