and i think it's over to you peter for the multi-events as you're our multi-events expert well i certainly enjoyed the um fentanyl yesterday and now we have the hept athletes uh the just two races for the 60 meters and these are uh the slower group for 60 meters they're usually seeded into their qualities for different events so we've got uh perhaps the favorite maybe certainly european leader this year thomas van der plensen going this race but from the inside we've got andreas beckmann of germany 6 000 points he's got up to over the seven event discipline this year then we have brazilian of france also just over six thousand points all these men have got personal best just outside seven seconds and we'll see men with insights seven second times in the next race and here's randa platson a good record european champion at the decathlon uh three years ago and uh former junior and under 23 champion samuelson's proving himself to be a good big event competitor he did well two years ago when he took fifth place in belgrade again with a penta heptathlon best of just over six thousand points vitaly zuke had a really splendid european championships in berlin when the young belarusian took the bronze medal and janek iglani well i remember him really coming through at the uh under 23 championships four years ago he's had injury problems but he was fourth in the world championships to catherine in 2017 as well quite a talent and good to see him back probably pretty much close to his best with a score of 6015 points 85 points rather to his credit this year first race in the heptathlon 60 meters so after one full start we've got beckmann rollnam vander platzen samuelsson well this time samuelson also very well away so too beckman the german over the first time from samuelson who takes it on the line from beckman and roll down and 706 on the clock so very very close to his personal best and i said samuelson is a big meeting competitor i think he's a fierce competitor and he's got very close to his personal best in fact um the verdict gone to beckmann in the end i thought it was pretty close at the end and 705 is the confirmed winning time both uh well beckman got 705 by a hundredth from samuelson so he he came up at the end just to snatch victory from the swede doesn't matter what order you finish it's all about the scoring tables of course and uh that's a personal best for the german 865 points so he'll end up four more than samuelson well beckman always going well over on the far side from lane three then roll now and samuel son and i thought samuelson had got it well certainly very close wasn't it yes it wasn't immediately obviously beckman had a very good start and got into his running very quickly nice pickup from beckmann [Music] samuelson third in from the left result of the first heat of the heptathlon a win for andreas beckmann in 705 his personal best frederick samuelson 706 then rolner and zuke 7 13 and the other two at 7 15 just behind and the second of these races six men there these are the faster men and include several of the favorites four medals here so we've got martin rower of norway who is sixth in the european championships decathlon outdoors last summer in berlin he's got a personal best of 692. next to him is carl robert saludi who's come back into form this year and he's the fastest or joint fastest in the lineup with a 677 to his credit yogi urania spanish record holder six one two four points that's the second in europe this year and he's a decent sprinter at 691 vb physics well he was the world junior champion at decathlon back in 2014 and another 6 000 point competitor personal best just inside seven seconds tim duckworth is a very exciting young talent from great britain has lived most of his life in the usa and college there and tim duckworth was fourth in the european championships to castle and outdoors and the most experienced biggest name here's ilya shkiranov with a silver and two bronzes in decathlon's in european championships competing as an authorized neutral athlete the russian and he's got the best of 698 so the fastest men in the field at 677 saluri duckworth going in lane seven second of the two races of the men's 60 meters in the heptathlon first event of their two-day competition there's duckworth brilliant high jumper and long jumper particularly not so good in the throws serious urania sikora duckworth schierinov [Applause] and a really good time there too which he's very happy about so he should be it says championship best that's the best performance in a hectare in the european indoor championships history formally 679 now officially confirmed as 675 and also a personal best for the estonian saliori well duckworth lost a little bit of ground to him in the early stages but finished very well indeed and he's rewarded with a decent time too of 6.85 so high standards delighted with that championship best 675 worth 973 points duckworth and urania also under seven seconds good stuff at irania who's definitely one of the medal favorites the spaniard in the middle there look at the way saliri head down now comes up a way he strides to victory duckworth closing just a little bit yeah narrows it to a metre um just over a meter but the difference between them let's have a look at headlong and soluri wonderful start here well there'll be men in the 60 meters heats coming up who aren't going to be running that quickly just notice the just 300 shy of the all-time european best for 60 meters in a heptathlon and that is by erkie newell the great estonian so group fought a terrific tradition for the multi-events in estonia called robert ciliori winning in 6.75 from tim duckworth 685 your gate romania 696 with the scores that they've gained shown on the right well that's the start of the hept result of the heptathlon 160 meters first event saluri with his splendid run has 973 points so a 37 point lead over duckworth urania beckman and samuelson following grand platzon well he's uh 12th and last at the moment 762. but he's got good events to come for the man who leads the european ranking that's the starting order for the long jump so corda will lead off the former world junior champion look out for duckworth he's a terrific long jumper probably the best in the field well over eight meters is his best piranhas all solid metal contenders [Applause] and it's to get things underway [Applause] [Music] that's a very good start um by the norwegian there he is a very good long jumper he has got a best of 781 that makes him uh second best on an indoor bear best duckworth 780 but as i said duckworth has been over eight meters outdoors perfect for on the board decent points there with that [Music] performance [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh very decent jump there in the mid seven meter range for salieri who's got an indoor best of seven sixty one well we've got a little to spare but that's pretty good to start and good points for silviori there as his jump is measured at 7 49. and this is tim duckworth this is one of his parade events the long jump together with the high jump eight meter jumper outdoors 780 indoors oh he must be close to that too well ahead of the lead which is super imposed there fine start by tim duckworth based in the usa father went there to work tim duckworth brought up there but retaining british citizenship and an excellent start for duckworth 779 just a centimeter off his uh best ever indoors in the second round of the halftime long jump now this is india you know none of the other competitors has made any improvements in fact duckworth doing a no jump but scurry enough now can he better his initial 736. well i think the answer is yes um the red line superimposed there with that uh opening distance so a little bit better for the russian authorized neutral athlete some of the russians allowed back into international competition provided they've gone through enough doping test procedures producing his best so far so we're coming to the end of the second round of the jumping samuel son in the long jump this is his second round jump having opened with 7 39 oh there's consistency it looked to be just a centimeter or two over that opener which is that uh ready purple line there on the screen 743 is his season's best this year matching that season's best at 7 43. [Music] [Music] new german talent [Music] he goes a bit farther here it's on the low seven meter territory beckman the german indoor champion his first year as a senior still 19 years of age germans of course only got one competitor here they're top men not competing this indoor season nicholas cowell of course ruger and bailey they've really got a host of multi-event talent and as it is they're represented here by this youngster who is improved to 723 [Music] now then we start the third round with row who's got a couple of consistent jumps in 753 and 749 third best of the jumpers so far [Applause] and well it looks very close again very consistent series here maybe slight improvement we'll judge that in a moment and who comes here with indoor best of 781 decent points here in the long jump should move him up in the overall standings with this completion of the second event following the 60s earlier the norwegian record holder hasn't gone over 6 000 points he could do also here and 753 well it matches his first round jump so very consistent series next [Music] [Applause] in the second round before these two in fact sikora started the third round with another no jumps and he's got a best of 736 today so roll them second rather third jump in one job [Applause] kevin meyer the great french multiventor of course the world record holder now in the decathlon has been competing a little bit indoors but didn't want to compete here it's going to concentrate on the outdoor season so roll now won the french title and is competing for them here [Applause] no improvement there 744 which gets him a further 920 points [Music] is now then tim duckworth his second attempt was a no jump but he still leads quite comfortably with his opening 779 another fine jump pretty much uh online with his opener and he's certainly proving to be the best long jumper there sorry rueful smiling didn't improve i don't think with that particular performance but he's had a good mornings work and this will take him into the lead after two events it was in fact 774. so 779 worth a thousand and uh seven points so we will have a new leader after two events i'm sure so laurie could yet prove me wrong i guess van der pletson now improving so 7 57 that's the second best long jump so far from a man who's one of the favorites [Music] similar no for no improvement i don't think so vander platzen who is in 12th and last place in the 60 to 60 meters will certainly move up in the standings with this uh long jump performance that he's put on [Music] not getting so close to his personal best which is 778. he's made a good comeback after a lot of injury problems and there he has uh 742 at the end so 757 952 points for the belgium and now we have yoga uranium particularly excels indoors at the multi events he started with a fairly modest for him 729 can he improve on that in his third jump yes i think he can there we go a little bit better from the spaniard certainly one of the medal candidates but i think this was proved to be a bit of a disappointment for him the long jump because he has a best of 773 and hasn't got particularly close to that the man who's the reigning silver medal oh well that's one of the reasons why because he's got so much to spare there nonetheless it is his best of the day let's see what it comes out at uh there we go 739 739 eighth best [Music] and the best performance quite easily was tim duckworth 779 for a thousand and seven points samuelsson and shkiranov producing their best at the last at 766. then to plateson and rowe moving up the standings and saliri maintaining a challenge at 7 49 there so we've had two events of the hepatitis and two more events of course to come today and then the remaining three tomorrow at this stage after the first session tim duckworth leads now with 1943 points silly holding on to second place quite a big gap after him to samuelson and then and shkoyanov but plenty of scope for change when we come to the next events and we'll see about that in the afternoon those are the completed standings 12 competitors still in action down to vitaly zuck who of course we've also seen his wife competing today in the women's cole vault fine shot putter with uh a best of 15 71 after some modest opening puts and vander platz in the 1376 so see what the norwegian can do it's a national record holder at five nine five one points for the captain oh that's excellent that is the best we've seen by a long way because those lines drawn at 14 and 16 meters and he's getting pretty close to 16. very good start for the norwegian six of the european championships dick castle and outdoors last year and while he's very happy with that obviously 1559 very close to his best of 1571. now here's the leader after two events tim duckworth this is a weak event for him best and best of 13 59 [Music] that's very poor indeed that's a couple of meters short of his best even so he hoped to go a long way further than that because he'll lose an awful lot of points um compared to the leaders there he'll lose uh well 250 or 300 points down on the lead now so let's hope he can find something more in the next couple of rounds yeah 1173 very modest indeed now the final thrower in this first round of the heptathen shot vitaly zhuk european bronze medalist at decathlon best of 1562. oh he smashed that best that's beyond 16 meters well we just saw her do 15 59. that was good but this is a terrific book by zhuk husband and wife competing here in these championships with uh irina doing the women's pole vault and vitali here very pleased indeed as he should be with a terrific start that'll take him way up in the standings now for that put which is 16 meters 32 worth 871 and that's almost 300 points better than duckworth [Applause] so that completes the first round of the heft after but now we pick up rona in the second round he had a pretty poor opener by his own lights 13 30 for a man who's gone close to 15 meters oh he's hit that much better so yes that's well over 14 meters for the frenchman so that's getting to the level that one would expect a man who's improved his score this year the 6025 for the seven events and that went out very nicely indeed and he knew it immediately of course [Applause] and uh that put 1456 the fifth best of the day so far now salury who had a no foot to start with so he'll be hoping to get a score at least may go a little bit safe because he has got a best of over 15 meters but the important thing is to get a put in well he does that he stays in the circle this time it's not particularly good by his lights because it's short of 14 but it will get him the uh the score that he needs over 700 points probably and silly just say take a check on what his distance is there it is 1384 [Applause] sixth best now who was impressive in the first round second best of the day at uh 15 59. [Music] personal best 1571 he's gone to 1561 this year so he's pretty consistent in shot pudding and it's another good one oh pretty similar to that first round effort just landing a little short of the 16 meter tape strong man this is an event that he would expect to pick up quite a lot of ground so fast as some of the men but strong and that takes him to oh 1560. one centimeter improvement that actually gets him one more point now then we pick up the former world junior champion georgie cicoro who's going in the heptathlon shot opened with 1460 [Applause] and yeah that looks a bit better in the just over the middle of that uh range between the 14 meter and the 16 meter tape so it's got a personal best of 1506 and that must be pretty close to that yeah there he is 1509 so yes a new personal best in round two of the shot now samuel sod started with a very modest 1235 mid-14s at his best but short of 14 meters there [Applause] he's had a good start to the competition in the 60 and the long jump but he'll lose a bit of ground it looks like with a shot one of his weakest events still it's certainly a big improvement on his opening effort and it is 1392. now jacquez well very poor start 1173 yes he is a poor shot putter but certainly he's capable of a couple more meters see how he can get on in the second go well it's better but he's not very good he's going to drop quite a lot trying to take some advice on the shot it's not an event he probably practices as much as any of the other men it does do very well indeed in high jump and long jump particularly and uh an improvement for duckworth to 12.89 well that's worth uh your gate urania in the third round now of the shot two no throws before this for a mental contender this is vital always hit it okay ah a relief for the spaniard and he did a good put his personal best 1450 and that looks pretty close to that so that's a really good competitive response to starting with a couple of fouls yep he's uh very happy with that and so he should be 1468 a new personal best for urania now we have samuelson made significant progress from his opening 12 meter plus then nearly 14 meters and how can he rise the occasion oh he does again that's well over 14 his personal best 1467 and that looks like close to that so in quick succession we may have seen a couple of personal bests incidentally before these guys ruined another good put 15 53 but no improvement samuelson shakes his fist because he knows he's got a good one yes he has and yet it is a personal best by just two centimeters 1469. duckworth he's lost his lead in the tesla with some very modest shot-putting indeed can he present through the things a bit well not much is the answer that doesn't look very different from his second put and he's not at all happy he's got a lot of work to do if he's going to stay in middle convention or get back in metal contention although because he does have the high jump to come which will help but he's not a good uh runner either in the distance event so the thousand meters at the end will tax him so i think he may have blown it rather here 1297 it's his best yet but it's only worth 665 points so it ended up that vitaly zuck with a splendid personal best of 1632 871 points pbs by five of those men on that first six so very good competition by their own lights that's the first six and here's the next another pb for urania got way down the bottom there tim duckworth and not very good by van der platzen either the european leader well that will certainly have shaken up the results very considerably remember that duckworth was leading after the first two competitions and now this we've now got three of the seven and here they are and not in the row has moved into the lead two six four one seventeen points ahead of saliri and duckworth's big lead when he means he's still in third place but he's lost a lot of ground samuelson going really well now in fourth urania just saved by that final put and rolner of france also put very well the corner skewering and oig lane by no means night of it but we do have rat at the bottom battalion despite that splendid shot put which is easily the best it's going to be a close competition throughout lots more to come they'll be getting underway in two pools let's have a look at the uh this is the a group and then we have a second group as well which will probably start at lower heights and there you go beckmann samuelsson now this to picks up the uh the castle and high jump and here's martin rowe oh nowhere near well high jump is his weakest event now he came into the competition leading of course but looks like it's all going badly wrong just when it mattered [Applause] so that's got to be painful he hits his head on the stanchion now that really is disastrous for man who's going so well in a brilliant shot but he's cut his head it looks like he's going to need attention for that he only has a personal best of 198 so he's always going to drop back with this but this is more than just dropping back oh oh look at that yes it's very unpleasant can't go on like that [Applause] [Music] yes i don't want to be melodramatic but that's quite a gash so sadly martindre has had to retire from the competition such a shame [Applause] duckworth the paper the best high jumper in the field is now looking at the bar set at two meters oh four no trouble he came in at 201 he needed two attempts to get over that height but he is a man who's uh capable of very much more and of course with the very unfortunate end to the competition for martin road duckworth will be looking to regain his lead but here's samuelson and really enjoying his competition as well and the swede goes clear but samuelson's best is 208 [Applause] and then the high jump continues and a lot of jumps here as you can see from the cards and that's really a roll number this is his third attempt at 204 oh and he's got it well as i said he's another lock at jumps but he's obviously a man who needs that and he shows the delight when he's getting close to his best ever which is 206. now we move up to 207 here's the young german the 19 year old v2 is successful and this time as i say that 207. two pulls for this uh competition this is the one that martin rowe was taking part in before he crashed into the stanchions and had to be taken off [Music] now jim jackworth and once again no trouble at all well he's coming in really at quite a low height for an outage of such uh credentials in the high jump but he's got a lot of ground to make up after that very disappointing shock competition 207 worth 868 points [Music] now we switch to the other pets and we see [Applause] he really does rise to the big occasion i've seen that in several championships now and he likes to share it samuel saw on clearing 207 matching his season's best so beckmann sammy son and duckworth we've seen go over this height 007 9 and a half for american viewers and there's a delight just after maybe more to come just want to get all his emotion got out of him at this stage but maybe he knows of course that he is uh reaching his maximum potential now [Applause] now van der pletson well down the competition for the european leader but he can gain ground with the high jump and he's doing just that with a very nice clearance indeed [Music] and the plate sunu has a personal best in the high jump of 213 which is seven foot he's also becomes the fourth man at 207 third attempts oh yes oh yes the competitive fires are there just like in the shot and he came through the last gasp so too he's doing well here oh excellent performance because he didn't look too good at the previous attempts at this height 207 yes going off third attempt at 207 in the high jump no very narrow but the russian uh knocks that bar off to a disappointment for him i think this was an event he might have been expecting to pick up a little ground on his rivals [Music] [Applause] well as we've seen on all his attempts so far very good high jumping and he'll have every chance of getting back into the lead overall having slipped back to third with his uh have to say paul shot footing [Applause] but van der pletson also now his first attempt oh and he too goes clear so very good to see after all his problems that he he's now back in prime form illness held him back but now he's uh looking pretty good and he's that blue bib as the european leader for the event now he's last after the first event and then he's moved up slightly to tent now then uranium this would match his uh all-time best 2-10 third no not quite as good but uh pretty good uh work here in playing 207 so that means we're just down to two high jumpers now duckworth van der bletzen [Music] for american listeners just to be very precise [Applause] [Music] and dark got it if you do it the other way around if you convert seven foot two meters it would be 213 to the nearest centimeter [Music] he's done well 213 and he had more points here the 216 third attempt [Applause] no well i was better than the other two but not not really anywhere near so that's the final performance in the high jump and the best there coming from duckworth at 213. [Music] [Music] the affairs we'll just uh bring you very shortly the result of that first group of the eptathen high jump and there was tim duckworth going over 213 thomas van der pletson 210 207 seasons best for both of them and oven rolling at 204 and oiglani at 201 so that concludes the first day of the heptaseon after four events and we've got tim duckworth back in the lead three five three three and the exciting young swede frederick samuelson 58 points off that yoga iranians good high jumping has taken him up to third and rollin off and beckman but they're all pretty close and we could have some changes next uh competition rowe of course is sixth but uh he will not take any further complications that place in the competition or glanny van der pleittson moving up a little bit sikora and zuk to complete the lineup so far [Music] so we've got two races for the hurdles in the heptathlon seeded according to what they've done this year so the slower competitors and anticipation are shown there and martin is on the startness so good luck to him then the young german beckman she's going as a very good hurdler he's in this race rather than the next one because he hasn't competed before this year but he's uh on personal best well ahead of the rest of the field um so it's martin the norwegian on the inside is lying equals sixth at three three seven two points after the first date exactly equal in fact with uh the 19 year old german andreas beckmann who's slowest in the field at 8 45 but he's a fast improving young athlete they're scaring off surely the class of the field and also a top class pole vaulter so fifth place so far but very much a contender right the way through italian the belarusian really excelled last summer in the european championships and is going pretty well here too now we have thomas van der pletson with the blue bib on there as the highest scorer in europe this year man with the personal best of 806. down the rankings as i said in ninth place but every chance of moving up with some good events on this second day so five men in this first race for the hurdles and then six in the next thousand points on the table 793 and to the sort of times we may see in this probably in 850 or so much the faster from his previous form still you know it is who comes through to win it quite easily back to place and taking second and a good time for the russian competing as an authorized neutral athlete elias very good record in uh major competitions particularly outdoors actually in the decathlon and he's got a improvement coming up in the standings i think after this race yes two bronzes and the silver and european outdoor championships yet to win an indoor medal but certainly every chance of doing so this time this time confirmed as 8.02 and that's worth 977 points certainly the class hurdler of this field the good run by vander platzen nearest the camera here coming through strongly and over on the far side martin of norway and good to see him back again after that very nasty cut that he got when he crashed into the stanchion in the high jump i'd actually have lost too much points in high jump because he did do 192 and his best is 198. result of the first race in the heptathlon illustration of 802. thomas van der platzen 829 and the rower wlc personal best there 8 36. then beckerman losing a little bit ground perhaps there and chuck but we'll have the fastest hurdles or most of the fastest hurdlers in the next heat duckworth is a good pole vaulter but then so many of the others he's not very good at the thousand meters which will conclude proceedings so he needs every point he can get here that's the start list urania duckworth samuelson and sikora but rolner will not be taking to his marks this year the fastest of these men have been uh jesus decora the former world junior champion from the czech republic he's run 795. well as i said he's the fastest in the field of the hurdles and he's lying third overall so very very much in contention for a medal that's even a gold medal he's the leader and he's a man who's got a personal best of 803 born in america where his father works and uh educated there but happy to compete for britain he's always been a british citizen janek eigelein of estonia remember him coming through as a youngster in the under 23 championships junior championships and then samuelson who had a splendid first day three four seven five points with a number of performances at all better than his personal best jizzy sikora of the czech republic world junior champion anthony decathlon back in 2014 european under-23 champion also two years ago and he also competed in this championship two years ago when he was 10. uranium excels on the indoor scene not such a good thrower so he'd lose it out a bit on the decathlon outdoors but he was the runner-up in 2017. urania going in three then duckworth then oiglani then samuelsson and then shikoro here is our leader tim duckworth of great britain british triumph of course and the women's heptathlon got a one-two there set remember it doesn't matter too much in terms of the fact that they do not get disqualified for a first full start in the combined events but if anyone transgresses next time anyone not just sakura they would be out so here we'll know that get a warning flag there's the reaction time well minus north 0.060 and it's clearly obvious of course that he did get away samuelson very slowly away he reacted no doubt to the man outside him everything measured automatically these days of course three foot six hurdles as this is the first false start of this heat and we have combined events the next false start means automatically disqualification explain to the crowd sprinkling around the arena not not full of course for a morning session and we will certainly expect it to be absolutely full when it comes to this evening after one full start then the runners in the second race of the 60 meter hurdles in the heptathlon settle down and here is the leader tim duckworth going in lane four with the fastest man on his right yoga uranium very good start certainly by that question so too uranium you're at the flying square from the rest of the field going very well a very fine run indeed by uranium second and duckworth losing quite a lot of ground to the spaniards there to see whether in fact it means a a change in the lead uranium 71798 matching his personal best and getting 1038 points for that so cora getting 802 in second place for 977 a duckworth 816. well that's a decent time for him though not at best 9 42 but that's nearly a thousand down on uranium who will now just about match him in the overall standings because there was 90 point gap between them before this race look at irania really flying away the spaniard an excellent hurdler smoothly over those hurdles and duck were fighting hard to stay with him but sakura also took the second place and he was just outside eight seconds samuelson he got eight twenty nine thirty two points so he will drop back a little bit as well uranium who's actually not quite such a good pole vaulter as some of the others but very good on the thousand meters this really is going to be a fascinating competition when we come to our next two events the pole vault to conclude this session and then the thousand meters later on this evening and of course there's very different strengths between the different uh athletes here a lot of very good pole vaulters to come usually most of the multi-eventers are pretty good at the hurdles because it does combine the technical discipline together with a lot of speed just snipping each of those hurdles we're not really being troubled by that certainly not totally fluent but to be rewarded with a personal best well he must be very pleased with his morning's work as a result yoga urania 778 then sikora 802 duckworth 816 followed by oiglainey and samuel song so we've just got uh two events to go in the heptathlon 12 volt 1000 meters and we can take a check on the standings after five events urania has now moved six points ahead of duckworth samuelsson 74 points off the lead schoeyanov enough as well because he's a brilliant pole vaulter and might well move up into metal contention van der platzen he also great paul walter but he's probably got a bit too much to do despite the fact that he is the european leader at the event this year so there's the start list for this uh pole vault tim duckworth first to go samuelson well as we did for the um hep test of pentathlon on day one we've got some projections as to what might happen if the athletes come up to their best so this is the current standings urania leading from duckworth and samuelson and then scuolionov and let's see what happens when we add in what might happen in the pole vault where there's quite a difference in standard between the top men and the rest and also the thousand meters and as i've said duckworth is poor at the thousand meters and the projection is that urania will win and panda platzen well he'll have to live up to his best can still yet come through right the way down from eight up to second samuelson in third duckworth in fourth and scurrianov in fifth whatever happens i think it's going to be close but urania now is the favorite not quite as good at pole vault however as some of the other men so he's got to get up close to his best when he does um indeed do that discipline uranium has a best in the pole vault of 502 but van der platzen has done 550 and shkoyenov has done five forty duckworth with the best of 526. so the pole will be critical unquestionably and they'll be getting underway pretty shortly well now back to the pole vaults and it's now five meters ever upwards here's tim duckworth his first attempt there's a good vaulter 526 he hasn't uh had much indoor competition this year and of course he's been very prominent throughout but then he also led the european decathlon last year for quite a while before ending up fifth so five meters there you go nice draw from the crowd for that [Applause] three times the european decathlon medalist most of those featuring excellent pole vaults here he goes at five meters no trouble [Applause] so he joins duckworth as the two men clear at this height so far van der pleitsen incidentally also scheduled to come in i think at this height not completed yet van der pleichson very nice indeed at five meters he's waited to come into the competition at this height well our projections forecast that he could move up into second place overall he needs to go well at the pole vault and he does samuelson now this to equal his personal best of 5 meters well if you look back at the record for samuelson's personal best you'll see an awful lot of them done in major decathlon championship competition he really is one of those big event competitors just shown it this to uh get very close to his best of 502 third attempt five meters for the spaniard [Music] no what a competitor he is it's wobbling it's time there almost don't move delight from the supporters in the spanish team very fine effort by uranium well we are forecasting that it's going to continue to go well for him five meters ten this is scary you know [Applause] well he's got a wonderful record in pole vaulting yeah no problem at all i think there's plenty more to come still from him maintaining a strong metal challenge irena leads with five three nine one points now he was uh a hundred and twenty three ahead of scary enough coming into this event will need to add a few more heights probably if he's to rest the lead from uranium well it looks like he'll have 520 within his graphs we'll see [Music] tim duckworth then his attempt at 510 needs everything he can get in the pole vault third attempt now [Applause] no no i'm afraid not and i fear that may be the end of his medal chances because although five meters is okay i think he'd have needed more than that unless he can produce something which he's never done before in the thousand meters so five meters for duckworth gets him 910 points today that's taken him up to 5385 which is again six points behind urania no change for them both having done five meters some anguish there from duckworth just probably hasn't done enough vaulting this winter to really get close to his best performance which is 526. beckman though he's been going very well can he go over this height on the third attempt [Applause] oh is he can 5 10 sir he joins shkayanov as successful at this height and adds another 31 points to his credit 941 is what it's worth [Laughter] [Applause] the site was beginning to sort them out but beckman's still there and he's uh next up he'll be trying to equal his personal best 520. still just 19 a rising talent [Music] this great tradition that the germans have may not make their team outdoors for the world championships because he's got a whole lot of really talented men up against him we'll improve outdoors as well so now we go to irania this is his third and final attempt at what would be a big personal best five meters ten he's still in the lead after five events retaining that lead with this sixth event six ahead of duckworth now again nowhere near but as i said this will be the real bonus had he cleared that he is a very good thousand meter runner he's got the best personal best at that event than of any of the competitors so if he lives up to that he's got every chance of taking the title but let's see what the likes of skurianov and van der platzen can do in the rest of the pole vault can they narrow the gap enough to really challenge 510 no but five meters successful for urania takes him up to 5 391 points with the thousand meters to come the 800 meters to go no thousand meters yes we're getting between the women and the men there yes you got it right first time never correct oneself let other people do it for you yeah yeah they do really has made very big improvement this uh indoor season he was eight in the world junior decathlon last summer but he's now rising up in the ranks of multi-eventers 520 first attempt oh terrific it just touches it but it stays there can celebrate now all right 5 20 for beckman really is enjoying his first uh senior international experience there's his card he had some failures at the previous heights which going off as a clean card all the way so far having come in quite early for him at 480 his first go at 520. [Applause] he really is a good consistent volta when it comes to major events this is his best event his parade event vanderplatzen but this is third attempt 5 20. oh yes well that retains his chances of a medal i think he had to do that if he was going to have any such chance a bit of a relief there van der plensen whose personal best is 550 which is the best of any of the competitors in this field right it's van der pletson in the pole vault the height is 5 meters 40. good attempt no afraid not i'm afraid i have to say that the chance of surveillance and for medal now is well the slim but he's done well in the vault of course with this 520 past 5 30. [Music] yes it was a big gamble missing 5 30 and it didn't pay off you can see somewhat disappointed with his performance especially in the wake of his recent 550 clearance as peter mentioned in the belgian championships now disgust pole vault then the top men skull you know beckman and van der platzen all cleared 520 a number equal their personal best including beckman then we had five meters for samuelson duckworth and urania 490 for er and 480 for oiglani and shook so just one event to go sakura a non-starter he had to pull out carried off unfortunately on a stretcher so we've just got the thousand meters this evening to end our decathlon and this is the position urania leads at five three nine one from duckworth five three eight five shkurinov 5330 samuelson five three one seven the medals look to be between those guys van der platzen well can he open up a big gap on duckworth i'm not too sure he can beckman going really well to be sixth place then juke and sakura could be off [Music] there's the lineup for the thousand meters the deciding event in the heb tassel it's recorder on the inside it says well thought he'd gone we'll see beckmann van der pledsen samuelsson duckworth and urania that's the order but they will be wearing the numbers that relate to their position in the event so far so uranium number one and so on [Applause] they'll be introduced to the crowd very shortly conclusion of their two days of hard work [Music] and just to interject very quickly you've been seeing the women's high jump in the background the bar has gone up to 191 and we still have all 12 competitors and we've got cedar over waiting uh patiently on the pole vault as well but here we come then this is dirty sakura well there he is the former world junior champion so he's recovered to take his place in eighth place we move up steadily italian [Applause] he's the new national indoor champion for germany and this very exciting talent he did no less than personal best in all his events to win the german title and he's going well here andreas beckmann at 19. now the 2016 european decathlon champion thomas van der pleitsen very good thousand meter runner but he's got a lot to do to make up a gap to get into the medals frederick samuelson really enjoying it he's got his whole family here watching him about 10 of them most of them good athletes it's a terrific support position because he's really proved himself to be very popular with his performances yet to win an indoor medal but three european medals to his credit outdoors in the decathlon there'll be a raw for this man tim duckworth he's very good at some events he's not so good at others and unfortunately the 1000 meter time of 256.23 afraid if he runs that he will slip from second to out of the medals but the man who does look to be heading for gold because he's got six points over duckworth and 61 over skyrim is jorge urania and not least because he's the fastest 1 000 meter runner in the lineup of his personal best of 240.06 well while that was going on i see that uh cedar rover was waiting for a long time but in fact the clocks has been started again which has got four and a half minutes just to keep you informed about what's happening in the poll board so all to depend on this race the moment it looks like uranium samuelson but who knows their wearing numbers according to their positions in the race and the quickest but a thousand are uranium and van der bletzen first and fifth respectively and no missing about from the spaniard urania he's looked terrific [Applause] hurdles performance to start the day when he equaled his personal best and he is indeed tracked by van der platzen and then we have uh samuel son in third place duckworth second from the back of the field he'll try and do his best to hang on be lovely to at least see him get a new personal best samusondo now takes up the running the family will be urging him on i don't doubt many talented athletes amongst them and father of the catholic samuelsson from vander platzen then beckman uranium back and forth at the moment but it's not much to choose between the field as they go around this second lap [Applause] samuelson who has a best at this distance of two point minutes seven van der played some now in the screen there just on his shoulder in second place geranius slipped back a little bit to fist and he's got a terrific finish duckworth going past uh which will please people [Applause] not sure he's just on the shoulder so out front it's still samuelson with vanda plates and just behind him the medals to be determined very shortly because it's two elapsed to go samuelson on the outside of van der pleitz and then beckman [Applause] urania look out for his finish he's in fifth place but he's well in touch well at this stage with 300 meters to go duckworth doing very well indeed he is good for him now of course is on to the shoulder in fourth place he's a likely medal candidate but it's still duckworth running out of his skin it seems samuelson lead scurrier knob into second beckman in third urenya now moved up vanderplatz and slid back a bit and duckworth is in sixth can he hold on to a medal he's towering badly on this last lap as out front it's sandalson here comes irania i thought he wait he wants to win the gold in style he's the leader he looked set for gold and a splendid last nap here just as we saw from katarina johnson thompson winning her final race so yoga urania wins in great style in second place skilling off in third well that dank beckman got third then samuelsson how far back is duckworth that's the crucial thing we'll have to look out for on the tines but no doubt about the gold medal going to yoga celerenia and full marks to duckworth because it was only four and a half seconds back each second is about seven points on the tables and shko you know 245.45 well i gotta wait for the time to confirm but now we know that you know it's got 808 points and we know that uh uranium has got 827 and duckworth duckworth gets 771. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we'd almost written him off but we knew that he had to do if the others ran up to form and in fact they were a little below it he had to do a 249 and he's done just that so terrific marks for him there's congratulations because duckworth has got the silver behind urania splendid performance throughout from uranium 827 points there and probably do some quick maths on that takes him to six two one eight so it's a new spanish record as well there hasn't been many hectares contested but it's a world leading mark that too as well well what a last lap uranium bited his time didn't he he was fourth or fifth a lot of the time i thought he was going to be able to produce a finish because we've seen of course some very good sprinting from the spaniard and he really has had a terrific two days right the way through 696 in the 60 meters gave clear indication of his form a 7 39 long jumper 1469 shot put his best a 207 high jump 778 60 meter hurdles so let's have a look at the final result then of this heptathlon first of all that particular race the 1000 meters and a fine win for yoga irania of spain 244.27 then shkuyanov in second place beckmann this young talent from germany just 19. samuelson taking fourth place a personal best for martin luther the season's best for jill vander platzen couldn't quite match his [Applause] so the final result is that the gold goes to yoga urania of spain six two one eight the silver to tim duckworth of britain six one five six the bronze to ilya shkuyanov at six one forty five splendid effort by samuelson but he'll be a little disappointed a not to win a medal six one two five and he's also just missed the swedish record as well beckman also over six thousand points
