[Music] Megaman is so damn cool dude bunch of jumping bunch up people review really it's really hard at times awesome music super tight controls shooting lemons with the release of Megaman 11 and a review copy provided by Capcom thanks love I have really been in the blue bomber mood they nailed this game too man 11 is pretty awesome in my opinion it doesn't really come close to being the best megaman but it is definitely up there except now Megaman just falls to the ground when jumping through boss doors how'd you screw that up I also finally got around to picking up both of the legacy collections and yeah good times were had 10 great adventures in two semi convenient packages at some point in the future I do want to go more in depth with these games but for now I wanted to talk about something that has kind of confused me this line right here enjoy the entire original Mega Man series now that's that's just not true it's technically false advertising here there is a lot more to this franchise not counting the gameboy games any of the spin-offs or any game that's not on a Nintendo console there is one adventure in the classic franchise that continues to go forgotten even by its own creators of course I'm talking about Megaman and bass also known as rock man Forte the opening to megaman 10 says it all man 1 through 9 represented front and center Megaman and bass nowhere in sight [Music] we keep ignoring the game where you're actually in the title oddly enough it did get a cameo at the ending of nine though you'd never know it unless you really took the time to look there's probably a reason for all this this is not something that you normally see with any other gaming company although this is Capcom that we're talking about here now that the Blue Bomber is back I am in the mood for all things Megaman so what say we see what all of the lack of fuss is all about [Music] mega man's one through eight released pretty consistently over the span of 10 years from 1987 to 97 mega man's legacy began reached ultimate success and then I don't know they just they just kept making him Capcom will have you believe that Mega Man then laid dormant until game 9 released in 2008 but nope just over a year after mega man 8 released in Japan for the ps1 and Sega Saturn Rockman forte dropped on the Super Famicom really it's one generation back apparently this was done to appeal to those who only had a Super Famicom and fair enough that's a practice that we're still seeing to this day 3ds games are still coming out whether people want them to or not even though they were appealing to an older console they didn't want to quote make a half-hearted attempt at it ha since this game was only released in Japan there's some Japanese dialogue here to counter that I'm gonna be playing a basic translation romhack cuz you know what's a megaman game without a compelling plot right i could already hear it now a lot of you people want me to torture myself with the gameboy advance version which did eventually get localized but quite frankly with the screen crunch of this severe it's amazing that anybody thought this was a good idea need i remind you of sonic genesis yeah i'll stick to the super famicom for this one so in Sonic and Knuckles you get to play as the spunky blue hero that you're all familiar with as well as the angsty antihero premiering in a playable role blue boy megaman controls the same way we've come to know and love over the years you jump you shoot you charge a slide bing-bang-boom has some Megaman but this was also the first time that bass was a playable character and naturally he does play a little differently instead of shooting normally like Megaman he has a rapid-fire shot that forces you to stand still however you can shoot in multiple directions my god about time he can dash and then double jump to basically if you played as base in Mega Man 10 this will all be very familiar and you know playing as a brand new character is cool and all but I think for this adventure I'm gonna stick more traditional the rapid-fire shot and the maneuvering options of base are a bit more annoying than useful that is that is just me here since I'm so used to Megaman I'm gonna work with what I know instead at least basis weapon get animations pretty awesome all right starting off a brand new Megaman adventure ah the first room is filled with the drills that you can't see coming off to it off to a great start gotta say here early impressions the game looks really good I was always a big fan of how megaman 8 looked I thought the sprite work was fantastic in terms of the characters and the backgrounds and they managed to get the game looking basically exactly the same on older hardware that's really cool you make your way through the robot museum and soon meet up with proto man facing off against this new guy king who is the bad guy this time around I'm sure wily has has nothing to do with the plot of this game I'm sure of it oh and then protoman dies sick dude oh my god okay and the first boss is a devil okay I wonder how the rest of the Adventure is gonna play out if a devil is our first fight foreshadowing going far against everything you think you know in life only three levels are available at the start instead of the typical eight or sometimes four it's a very weird choice but ultimately it kinda doesn't matter with Mega Man's a series staple rock-paper-scissors concept of the boss powers being strong against other bosses there's arguably only one true way to play through these adventures anyway your start with cold man and then you work your way from there and the selection of bosses is alright I guess ground man ok he's a bunch of drills on them Magic Man okay's weird looking but but I'll take it burner Man dynamo man huh boy I'll get to you guys later tangu man and Astro man also return from Mega Man 8 how how odd you couldn't come up with a solid eight so here's the thing with this specific Mega Man game it is in my humble opinion the most difficult and infuriating game in this entire franchise and concept sure it's where you're used to with this series but wow wow you got to be so so patient to deal with the amount of crap that this game throws at you at all times Spike's just popping in from every hole imaginable okay that's that's pretty neat forest fires that make the bottom half of the screen a Death Zone that's awesome impossible to see spikes under you with barely any movement speed to avoid it oh that's all good times I love this part in particular sometimes enemies just pop out and sometimes they don't oh how exciting these stupid balloons at the start of tangu main stage it's at the beginning of the level and it's one of the hardest platforming bits in the entire game they do give you a respawning extra life before it I guess to make up for the crappy design they push you into two seconds later but quite frankly that's still bad it's not like you can punch someone in the face after promising that they'll have an ice pack to cover it No now that's dumb the game just simply doesn't feel rewarding to play its this non-stop annoying grind that feels like the game devs read how to make a Mega Man game 101 but skip to every other page to be fair I guess that's why bass exists with his movement options he does help with some of the platforming but in my opinion when it comes to extra characters I want them to feel like simply another option not a way to get over the games otherwise bad design when you play Super Mario Bros 2 you don't just gravitate towards one of the four characters because playing as the other three is absolute trash just kidding toads obviously the best but it doesn't really matter who you choose the bosses are terrible no matter what oh God who designed these disasters remember when I said you should start off at cold man because he's the only one that's actually kind of decent practically all of the other ones have unavoidable movement patterns and attacks if you don't have their weaknesses and execute them perfectly well get used to seeing this screen earner man is often considered the worst of the bunch his quick movement is legitimately insane the invincibility frames that go on when he attacks they last for far too long and his weakness the ice wall only does great damage if you manage to see him taking damage on-screen what the hell is that all about but no no no no no no Dinamo man the old oh boy whoever thought of a boss that sticks to the ceiling and heals himself multiple times in the same fight oh they should have been fired and it's not even like the weapons that you get for beating the bosses are that good either so the game doesn't even have that going for it you mean to tell me that Astro man is somehow weak two cards wise now to counter some of the game's ridiculous difficulty there is a shop where you can take the bolts that you find and purchase some upgrades it's basically all the typical fare you got a faster charge easier weapon energy refilling it's the usual stuff but it really doesn't make the adventure any less painful there are so many Mega Man games out there enough to make you think that really when it comes to a typical Mega Man game it's kind of formulaic I used to think that every Mega Man game was basically the same which is kinda true but it's even more noticeable when you have a game that lacks intuitive design a good level of challenge and just interesting weapons it's really clear that this game just lacks will make some Mega Man game a Mega Man game aside from the fact that you can shoot lemons that's cool and oh thank goodness sniper Joe is here so through your blood sweat and tears a lot a lot of Tears you finally take out all eight robot masters now it's time to take on King himself and when you know it his his levels are crap 200 there were spikes there I sorry I wasn't squinting my eyes so I couldn't I couldn't see him my bed and then there's this boss fight oh wow it's not even like this one's difficult it's really not it's actually one of the easier fights in the game just to keep him elevated so the bullets keep hitting them and then it's down in no time and so are you unless you move before the final shot hits this game sucks and then there's this tank thing and you know what I hear it's supposed to be incredibly annoying but but I don't know I didn't really have a problem with it it's really time consuming that's for sure but it was kind of refreshing having a slower fight where I had some time to think oh oh no never mind this is this is probably the part that we're talking about yeah yeah okay wow this this is terrible yeah oh no guys watch out King is shooting giant X's from his stomach how scary this fight as well it's actually one of the easier ones in the game the balancing and the entire adventure is just is just way off protoman then flies in turns out he was alive the whole time [Music] JK now he's dead again I can see why he was a simple prototype now oh my goodness shock and awe it turns out that dr. wily was involved the whole time I know I know contain contain your shock sometimes these plot twists they really come out of left field after dealing with thee and I kid you not on this one the fourth boss battle in just one level that the game expects you to accomplish with one set of lives this game sucks King who is actually a dr.wily creation sacrifices himself as he no longer wants to be involved with robots fighting amongst themselves oh we hardly knew ye you then take on that old man and his weird skull fetish once again he promises once again that this is the last time he'll be a bad person credits whoo oh boy it's done you see you see Mega Man here this is how I felt after playing this game wow man this this is a bad game like shockingly so I've seen some people defend this game over the years but men to me this is easily the worst game in the series now I'm glad that capcom chose to forget this one having a playable base is neat and all but thankfully ten has that too so if you really want to play a Mega Man game as the antihero and really now who doesn't this game has you covered bad level design worse enemy placements even worse bosses just an overall infuriating difficulty there's nothing about this game that stands out positively you know what credit where credit's due the soundtrack isn't bad there you go Mega Man's usually good at that stuff and I get it you know Mega Man games are meant to be challenging but challenge shouldn't be confused with the game just going out of its way to fight you back the entire time the game is supposed to teach you things through its level design and the use of its mechanics and one look at a terrible platforming section that comes right after a free one up every time you die just shows that that is not what they were aiming for Megaman and bass will forever be an interesting part of the Blue Bombers history that's for sure but unless you're a die-hard fan justjust keep this one in the Shadow Realm it's for the best at the very least when it comes to this franchise this is kind of the bottom of the barrel for classic Megaman any of the numbered entries you will be much better off spending your time with though to be fair it's still not the worst megaman game out there we could have been playing megaman soccer all this time i ain't doing that [Music]
