meet one of the most polarizing personalities to have ever been featured on MasterChef and this man needs no introduction I got a lot of tricks up this please show me I don't need to show you just wait and see yeah I'm talking about the grumpy old pretentious contestant who ranked in third place in season five Leslie gilliams right from the start of the show Leslie's competitors had pretty strong opinions about him calling him a loudmouth in no uncertain terms like remember during the Mystery Box challenge when Ramsay asked Elizabeth who she thought was gonna screw up that night without any hesitation she replied saying this why Leslie I totally love how Ramsay immediately Echoes it back it was honestly pretty hilarious he likes to Flap his jaws and not cook so much so he talks too much talk to the producer I mean she's only half right and I think most of you are on my side here now he definitely had a bad rep for being too vocal where is the off button we haven't found it in months I haven't found it in 20 years but despite his uh bold personality the guy could cook yeah a ton of people pointed out that Leslie was one of the rare few who could actually walk his talk nobody in the history of MasterChef has ever survived five pressure tests well you haven't met me yet I mean come on you have to agree that he was a legend of the pressure tests like absolutely he had the skills to back up his arrogance in fact he is one of the rare Donuts who Ramsay actually liked how'd you make a donut that delicious without even having a filling in there the topping is zesty vibrant I guess I'm good at winging it and oh by the way it was his first time making those yeah no joke now get this back in 2020 Elizabeth published an article talking about her NDA she wrote that while she's not permitted to discuss certain behind the scenes details there is no legal obligation preventing her from doing so I'm not gonna give you spoilers but turns out Leslie's read it too and here's what he had to say about it I read it when it first came out and I read it again I don't know how much truth there is to that and I don't know what legal troubles she may have gotten into but Gordon Ramsay is a very powerful individual Leslie really didn't want to get into a legal mess and sounded pretty apprehensive when it came to Ramsay and the Master Chef producers I ain't messing with them they got more money than me they got more lawyers than me I mean I have a lawyer but he's a little guy some viewers think that the producers intentionally manipulated His Image and made him the villain of the show but in reality he's just an honest guy reality shows manufacturing drama isn't unheard of I mean how many times have I talked about it on this channel anyway in his own words this is what he had to say it's a bunch of cooks cooking some boring stuff what's more there was a strong insinuation that since he was a stay-at-home dad his wife was the one bringing in all the money well that put the image of him basically living off her earnings just chilling at home into a lot of people's heads you want to know why I live in Malibu sweetheart is because I work my ass off but Elizabeth wasn't convinced I worked so hard to get where I am obviously wife works and you don't it really bugs me how a caring dad is seen as not manly enough if his wife earns well and he can stay home that's awesome for the both of them nobody questions a mom staying home but a dad doing it is somehow supposed to be funny it's not easy when the entire world makes you their target so how does Leslie deal with all this let's hear it from him do I stay home with my children show me a dad who doesn't I'll show you a dad who's an absent father in his blog Malibu Sunshine he writes I consider myself a renaissance man I take care of my wife my children and our house I am the newest breed of man the man that supports the dreams of his partner well why don't we go ahead and hear it from the horse's mouth ourselves but at the end of the day yes I spend time with my children yes there are times I can work from home and hey you know what an overwhelming number of viewers resonated with him for most he's a straightforward no BS person who will play the game and tell it like it is not just that fans all also showered Praise on him when he did this I apologize I'm sorry I'm sorry apology accepted fans think he's the bigger person for apologizing when Elizabeth didn't deserve it during their challenge where they had to feed 500 soldiers when he pointed out that Stephanie's chicken was undercooked she didn't take him at his word these are not done these are not done they're not done oh that one is yeah no no no no no no look she wasn't too sure about Leslie's skills at first like we talked about before how many people can walk their talk but surprisingly most of the time what he said actually made sense Leslie is driving me up the wall he's always in my face running his Yap talking too much and he really needs to back off but guess who had the last laugh when Ramsay called it raw and more dangerous than the enemy turns out he was right and while in the end Leslie had the satisfaction of proving them wrong revenge of sweetest when it's paid in the end and I'm a happy pie maker remember how one of the soldiers pointed out that you can easily buy chicken with potato salad from any store if you're wondering why the blue team lost it's because they didn't really plan things out carefully I told you I may be 56 but I know what the hell I'm talking about I know raw chicken when I feel it but nobody listened to Leslie when he recommended cooking beef I think he could have redeemed The Blue Team what about you in all honesty though sometimes we all get annoyed when we hear I told you so but in this case they would have benefited from Leslie's Insight but let's now dive into the most controversial part of season five you put the salt in place of the sugar I may have yes many people still have doubts about the winner mainly because of Elizabeth's loss since she used raw food in the finale but in truth the real controversy stems from the semi-finals where Leslie mistakenly used salt instead of sugar in his cake mistakenly being the key word here Ramsay had him taste it and Leslie acknowledged the error but it still led to speculation some wonder if Leslie's response was influenced by his television background possibly in collaboration with the producers While others question whether Courtney's victory was genuinely earned the situation remains a topic of heated discussion and opinions are divided on whether the outcome was influenced by behind the scenes factors or if Courtney's win was fair on a Reddit thread 148 people voted yes that is 148 people believe that he lied to the cameras as opposed to 140 people who think he was telling the truth which side are you on some people even pointed out that cake would wouldn't rise like that if sugar was substituted for salt now I dabble in baking but I couldn't tell you whether or not that's true so make sure you drop your thoughts and baking insights in the comments below Leslie later posted this on his Instagram page analyzing the impact of sugar and cakes with a cryptic caption and people in the comments were absolutely convinced that he didn't screw up and that the show was rigged well the internet seems convinced but what about Leslie listen to this did you actually put salt in your uh little cake thing there to this day to this day I still don't know hmm interesting he even clarified that the cake tasted fine to him when I tasted the cake the cake tasted fine to me yep so there you go however the rules are clear in the MasterChef kitchen the judges have the final say Leslie also had some reservations about the way Courtney's Boston cream pie was judged her uh Boston cream is sliding all over the place but they didn't pick that out I mean come on if you're gonna go Tit for Tat you know her her Grenache look like [ __ ] great Point man and if it's all about the taste then why was Courtney given a pass when this happened this is seriously salty ah yep they simply let her stay because the donuts were otherwise perfect but wait it's the same judges that sent Leslie home for his salty Boston pie that was also otherwise perfect makes no sense right anyway remember Elizabeth's article I talked about earlier she raised an interesting point there suggesting that a contestant's attitude during weekend classes might have influenced their journey in the competition even though it's hard to prove while it's tough to imagine Leslie causing disruptions in classes or not taking them seriously there may indeed be other reasons behind his unexpected challenges on the show One plausible theory is the perceived favoritism towards Courtney and well there was this one Chef who even had the balls to call it out said we favoring her from our side we see as Courtney is being kind of a problem you don't agree with that honestly it's just a little bit of favoritism with her it's possible that production aimed for a more dramatic reaction from viewers by having Courtney win especially since she apparently wasn't as well like 8. however there could be a range of other reasons at play too again Leslie's mistake in confusing salt and sugar seems unlikely for someone of his skill level additionally Leslie's Instagram post indirectly hints at the possibility of either sabotage or some form of arrangement that led to the mistake the situation at this stage continues to remain surrounded by speculation now do you remember how most people mainly Qatar accused Leslie of having an easy life and basically called him this he's an expedition house [ __ ] that works for his wife so I think he's trying to like prove his manhood or something I gotta say this is absolutely mind-boggling Cutters going on about his dad praising him for being awesome because he took in a kid who wasn't even his own and then there is Leslie who stepped up for three girls who also learns his own but cutter just laughs it off because Leslie's a stay-at-home Dad can we all just agree that housework is real work it's in the name this redditor said as in a world of Cutters and Leslie's be a Leslie 100 you guys but now let me give you a little insight into Leslie's life one of his blog posts about his childhood struggles Leslie said that he was born in Manhattan and he had seven brothers and three sisters his mother had been a nun before marrying his father and his life definitely wasn't luxurious his parents imposed strict rules and with 11 Hungry Mouse to feed it was no small fee in his household a chicken only had two legs and if you weren't quick enough you missed out seconds weren't an option due to some difficult circumstances he and some of his siblings spent around a decade in a Catholic orphanage at a young age while there was enough food for everyone it wasn't exactly Gourmet it was better than what he was used to though it was a far cry from three Michelin star fare but he came out of there with a strong work ethic he always lived within his means saving every penny and rarely splurgeon it's a rags to Rich story you know going back to the show am I the only one who remembers the wedding challenge where his leadership was labeled unconventional because he said this I don't want to take control of the situation I want to hear everybody's opinion and I want to just try and figure out what direction we want to go in I mean sounds like a democracy to me but the team didn't have his back put the strainer in the pot no put the strainer in that lately you need to stop yelling okay you're not helping our team at all right now she should watch Hell's Kitchen and know what real yelling sounds like I've got a few videos on the topic check them out anyway after they decided to demote him and make Francis the captain he took it in stride I don't care what it takes if it means me getting a demotion and not being team captain anymore but at the end of the day we win this that's all I'm concerned about it's stuff like this that led the viewers to question why the hate on Leslie I also remember how he and Iran did not see eye to eye initially since the generation gap led to huge disputes like he accused Iran of having poor communication skills o-r-r-y that's sorry you're not sorry at all but watching them put their differences aside and nail the surf and turf challenge that was super wholesome honestly the highlight of the Season wasn't about who won it was how Leslie and Iran's relationship developed at first they didn't really like each other but working together in that one challenge they became friends and even though Leslie didn't get sent home during the nerve-wracking pressure test the one where they had to cook three separate prawn dishes in an hour he was still pretty broken up about it you honestly Couldn't Write better character developments he even had this to say about it really honestly learned to care for this person they are still the duo we didn't know we needed and hey they are still good friends to this day now changing gears you see growing up the way he did it kinda ignited a passion for learning to cook book he was determined to never settle for unappetizing food again this skill also had an unexpected benefit in his romantic life that's when he crossed paths with Paula her love for dancing and laughter made an immediate connection between them having been through a divorce Paula had experienced the constraints of being a stay-at-home mom in her previous marriage with five kids spanning ages 6 to 16 her life was far from simple he on the other hand had never been married or had children while most might have been daunted he chose to stay by her side providing support to the family their love story was a whirlwind leading to the birth of their daughter marriage and an unexpected turn of events Paula's eldest daughter found herself with an incredible acting opportunity as the star of Sabrina the Teenage wedge where Paula was the executive producer the family decided to make a significant move from the east coast to Los Angeles a huge change in all of their lives you see Paula's dreams were on the verge of realization they relocated and given Paula's potential to earn significantly more than his work as a hair stylist he took on the role of stay-at-home parents juggling various responsibilities like taking the kids to school maintaining the house grocery shopping gardening assisting with homework and cooking dinner was no small feed yet despite the demands he embraced this life wholeheartedly fast forward two decades after preparing dinner one evening and watching an episode of MasterChef on Fox Paula remarked that he had the potential to do the same initially brushing it off the idea took root he pondered why not give it a shot his cooking was always a hit earning praise from his kids friends and guests at their dinner parties he decided to take the leap what began as an experiment turned into something more significant the journey progressed from being called back to making it to the top 100 to advancing to the top 30 and the rest as they say is history now let's dig into another issue was Leslie's beef with cutter scripted you know for drama it was an actual genuine beef okay cutter and I didn't see eye to eye from the beginning damn that's serious I've never seen Ramsay this angry on MasterChef come here out there is a fully booked restaurant and I don't want them to hear you fighting and arguing ah now who doesn't love a Hell's Kitchen Ramsey on Master Chef huh like a little crossover but what led to this moment in episode 15 the final six were whisked off to this cool spot on the Sunset Strip the super famous Sunset Marquis Hotel Leslie was all pumped because it's said to be where rock stars hang out they were shown into the kitchen of the hotel's fancy restaurant cavatina now the reason for this little Adventure brace yourselves it's nerve-wracking this is the Master Chef Restaurant takeover the gang of six home Cooks had to roll up their sleeves and basically run one of the finest kitchens in the country that week only Ramsay and Graham were judges and Leslie and Jaime were team captains since they aced the dim sum pressure test talk about a skeleton crew anyway Jaime had the opportunity to pick first but hey she wasn't super keen on being the leader so she snagged Christian to help her out then Leslie went for the one who totally stood out to him for her Pizzazz Jaime had the last pick and she went for the master of finesse Courtney so guess who ended up on Leslie's team by default yep cutter and there was this teeny tiny worry that he might not play along or take orders but here's hoping that wouldn't be a problem since they had to feed more than 50 hungry folks that evening the head chef of the restaurant gave them a demo of the dishes so they had to whip up some Prince Edward Island muscles and gnocchi for starters and for the Mayans it was sea bass and New York strip steak so they kicked things off with the muscles but the chef had just a few minutes to explain each dish the bass came along with quinoa and the New York strip steak got seared in butter and served with asparagus potatoes and this fancy Mustard Seed chimichurri now they had 60 Minutes to press up and 120 Minutes to serve everybody and guess who is trying to keep things moving yeah no doubt it was Ramsay putting on his Hell's Kitchen hat with all the screaming and fiery energy he's known for on their sister show now Leslie was captain of the red team he was all over the muscles in the state while Elizabeth was played in but uh oh cutter didn't want to agree with Leslie on who was doing what he was just aiming to finish the tasks you could you make all the faces you want I'm making mistakes she's going to be the final player because she has the better idea no listen do me a favor are you the captain or am I the captain so please stop now Leslie was kind of worried that cutter was stepping on his leadership toes you know it's like cutter wasn't really following the rules so was Qatar guilty of insubordination I mean yeah Leslie had the final call as Captain to write the team's rule book see that patch there it's on my arm doesn't say team cutter I'm in charge I have the final word but over on Jamie's side of things she was struggling a bit as the leader which I mean obviously since she wasn't much of a passionate speaker Ramsay had to step in and give her a little pep talk nudging her to find her voice and get things in order meanwhile Leslie had his eyes on everything but Qatar practically confronted Leslie at every turn labeling him as this big-headed egoist oh yeah he was big on labels so I think he's trying to like prove his manhood or something and that's when things exploded into a real heated argument cutter was flat out ignoring Leslie and that's really ticked him off I need you to look at me let's not forget that the VIP guests were rolling into the restaurant right in the midst of all this drama Ramsay had to make cutter and Leslie shake hands sorry for a minute and come back for this competition shake hands I'm going to go through this as a tea yes let's go let's do it God it was like a teacher forcing two kindergarteners to make up but cutter wasn't convinced according to him Leslie wasn't up to the task he's a loser and he's a sad excuse of a man so I just got to play his game and just get through it meanwhile Christian was rallying up The Blue Team aiming to finish with a bang but hey on the flip side Leslie and cutter we're back at it clashing once again and well Ramsay had to play referee again he even made the Leslie and cutter walk out to the dining area to come clean to all the hungry diners what's more he straight up told them that if they can't quit their bickering he'll personally whip up each and every dish for the diners himself yeah he was serious angry Ramsay playing Peacemaker is an irony that I can't get enough of but that reminds me of the time when cutter and Leslie went Head to Head during what was Leslie's sixth pressure test cutter was chuckling again when Leslie he had his stay-at-home dad status bandied out to taunt him again you know what cut up put it on the plate let's go okay meanwhile in the challenge they were thrown a curveball they had to work with the ingredients from the box they initially turned down I'm talking about the California box and inside they found sea urchin gourmet Chicken yellowfin tuna and a bunch of other stuff Joe stepped in and presented a sea urchin risotto making a big statement about how awesome it was Graham was ready with his idea too he went with the jidori chicken teriyaki and Ramsay brought his own choice to the table a tuna Nisswa with quail's eggs but here's the twist the home Cooks had to whip up all three dishes now this challenge really shown a spotlight on Leslie's cooking skills since he completely dominated showing everyone that he clearly had the edge over Qatar not just that he was so calm the entire time and he clearly has skills because he's like all-time Master Chef Global pressure test Champion yeah that's a funny but accurate title actually now what do the viewers think about this rivalry most of them are team Leslie most of them also believe that Qatar overstayed his welcome on the show and I second that one of the comments read Leslie and cutter are good examples to show the difference between arrogance and confidence others think cutter was annoyingly stubborn thinking he was top of the class despite all that Leslie was somehow the most unpopular one among his competitors which was made evident when this happened because Leslie is a petty man that bears grudges and this is precisely the type of behavior I expect from him oh yeah Daniel was totally not messing around he was seriously ticked off because Leslie swiped his pasta machine but even Joe held a discernibly reserved stance towards Leslie there was no salt in here it's not seasoned and what about Ramsay well he was particularly impressed by his strategy the coffee Leslie got Elizabeth to pair up with him learned her techniques and went on to win the Mystery Box challenge in episode 13. pretty smart huh everyone on the show may have made fun of him but dude was actually being funny so here's the thing that's been keeping me up at night was Leslie made out to be the bad guy purely for the sake of the narrative because let's be real he had one heck of a comeback Journey on the show one of the best Redemption arcs and fans were totally rooting for him and by the way as of now he is enjoying vacations in Paris and Sicily with his family to me he's the perfect anti-hero catch my drift anyway don't forget to drop your thoughts in the comments below and before you leave make sure to hit that like subscribe and turn on my post notifications also don't forget to check out my
