Master Oogway’s Legendary Backstory! | Kung Fu Panda Explained

hello fun people I'm Isaac Carlson and I'm focused on spreading magic by discussing Disney DreamWorks and animation and today I'm going to break down the long backstory of the great patient and wise new we'd love to have you too Master Oogway has a legendary tale that began a thousand years ago before the rise of the Dragon Warrior when the tortoise we know his food way left his home the Galapagos Islands on a journey of discovery that would lead to him traveling around the world eventually when he gazed into a pool on top of a peak which would be named the pool of sacred tears we became so moved by the beauty of nature and the plight the oppressed that he left as he meditated next to the pool he achieved harmony and peace by focusing on the mysteries of the natural world which led to him forming the basis of the self-defense system of kungfu for 10,000 days he perfected his system and once he had completed it he immediately began admitting students under his instruction to learn kung-fu to help them discover their own styles throughout that journey he visited every country but when he stood on a hill overlooking the land that would one day be named the valley of peace huwway was confident he had found the place that he would call home for the rest of his life to commemorate the moment huwway planted the seed of his favorite tree on the hill which would eventually grow into the peach tree of heavenly wisdom that's a good choice for a tree but I think it probably would go for some mangoes here away perfected kungfu becoming the first master of the art form 700 years before the rise of the Dragon Warrior Master Oogway assisted the Quan crane clan that's a mouthful to defeat the black steel flying lizards at the Battle of burning sky feeling indebted to him the crane clan assisted in establishing always dream of providing a safe haven for the soft and weak by constructing a thousand-mile rope bridge into the valley of peace the thread of was an open gateway for all animals to escape the northern wastelands who had pure hearts and this bridge protected all who came by making it a single-file traffic bridge that extended so long it had the capability to easily be destroyed of a threat approached the village within the Valley of Peace was a perfect home for many across China and was the place who way would always return to after protecting individuals and confu as a force for good beyond his home which he accomplished for many years with his closest friend Kai sometime during his youth Luke way became an ambitious warrior who led a mighty army with Chi by his side one day though they were ambushed and who way became badly wounded Chi carried his friend for days searching for help until they came upon a secret village high in the mountains that was inhabited by ancient panda healers they used the power of Chi to heal away fascinated by the power away was taught by the pandas how to give Chi but since Chi was solely interested in increasing his own power he discovered he could take the Chi of others seeing his friend fall to darkness hue realized he had to stop Chi which led to the two former friends engaging in a fierce battle that shook the earth until you a banished Chi to the spirit realm though Chi had been stopped we would not be the one to end him forever who way would simply not see his friend until he himself ascended to the spirit world but until then this would not be the last time who I had to keep the power of Chi away from those who had become evil one of Louie's earliest battles was as an allied to the four constellations a group of 4 kung-fu warriors who fought to prevent their fallen master the original Dragon Warrior jinn diao from capturing the source of all Chi in the world known as the wellspring unfortunately though their attempt to trap Jin diao failed which forced the first four constellations to sacrifice themselves to stop the evil warrior after the defeat of the original Dragon Warrior huwway developed the legend of the dragon warrior which foretold that a legendary prodigy would rise and would be granted limitless power after reading the Dragon scroll that was crafted by the tortoise that individual though would not rise for a thousand years the same time in ways youth a dangerous tribe of underworld demons took up residence in the Bali that's pretty dark I mean where do these guys come from they just couldn't catch a break terrorizing its citizens and laying waste to the settlement gleefully destroying all who attempted to escape or enter these demons ran amok the peaceful villagers fled for their lives amidst the onslaught but Master Oogway stood against the otherworldly menace using his fighting skills in conjunction with the hero's Qi a power gifted from heaven that was granted only once a generation using this mystic life energy to fuel his abilities Liu Bei drove the demons back from whence they came which led to them linked to the underworld through a crater on top of the Jade mountain and he sealed the entrance with his hero's Qi not realizing that the darkest demon amongst them still existed the demon king keepa appeared as a giant dragon - Oogway in hopes of using the tortoises weakened state against him but even though keepa fought furiously a new way seemed to be defeated the fight was not over since hue had protected the Valley of Peace the peach tree of heavenly wisdom in turn chose to protect him using the powers of heaven and earth to re-energize the injured master enabling him to stop keep hah by using his hero's Qi to trap the dragon like demon in the body of a mortal Pig rendering him powerless so long as the peach tree lived to keep watch over the entrance to the underworld and recognized master oogway's great deeds and celebrate all of the students he had taught many years later the villagers built the Jade Palace atop the mountain in his honor this building became a ways new home and was where he would train many others in the art of kung fu the first pupil to rise as an instructor was gold and takun beginning the many individuals who had come to learn the ways of kung fu in the Valley of Peace what the world came to find as a way arose as a prominent teacher was that he had an incredibly pure heart and all they wanted what was best for the world which is why I have always enjoyed his presence in Kung Fu Panda he's the moral heart that guides all other heroes he became the wise old and compassionate we all wish guided us and he would be there for all who needed him hundreds of years later one of the most important students to obey became Shifu who was destined to one day become the senior master at the Jade Palace after she Fu's father abandoned him huwway welcomed him to be his prodigy and through hard work and determination Shifu eventually was elevated to the rank of Master at first she foo was overwhelmed by the responsibilities of being a master and even desired to quit his kung fu life but hue stopped him teaching him hing kung to help him regain internal balance along with Shifu hue also taught rooster elephant Snow Leopard and feng huang they fought to protect the Valley of Peace as all Furious fives had done but they also were responsible for handling the many pupils who turned against who wave matter how pure and wise hue was he had a lot of students who were consumed by evil and that would eventually even be recognized by Shifu and Po the most powerful students often became the ones who fell to darkness there was a danger to sharing the knowledge that Oogway had acquired but it had to be done in order to ensure the existence of Kung Fu would continue the student of Oogway named Genji desperately desired to rise to be an egg ways good graces so that he could take control of the Jade Palace instead of Shifu but master Oogway saw anger within him which caused a way to choose Shifu to be the one to oversee the Jade Palace which resulted in Genji swearing to one day take revenge but not leaving the kung-fu world in fact master Genji even became a member of the sacred onyx council underneath another student bublé's named master chao while Junjie wanted to take down boys wishes from within the order others were not so diplomatic and their names didn't sound like the muffin man same gingy so goofy ding was a wielder of wonderful spirit orbs that allowed him to have a mental focus unlike any other Master Oogway sent him to study with the monks atop of Mugu Mountain but being impatient ding used his orbs to turn on his master's hypnotizing them to bring them to their own demise oh my goodness the Masters of the Jade Palace would Benj those monks by taking ding down and imprisoning him in the Mugu Mountain for eternity Tod was another pupil who was corrupted by his own ambition with the deep desire to pass Shifu as the greatest student of Oogway Tod worked with Shifu to construct the training hall which he deemed as his greatest achievement but in the aftermath Shifu used that equipment to only continue to exceed Te'o T's abilities tod did try to compensate for his weak spots with mechanical machines though that solidified in ways mind that he was corrupting the purity of kung-fu to be honest that seems like a little bit of short-term thinking from Oogway because of what we've seen later on by other villains that arise but at the moment it seemed like he was just manipulating kungfu to be what he wanted machines would have been kind of useful against shen one of the most devastating betrayals though was that of fang long because of her active involvement as a trusted member of the Furious Five Fang Wong was able to establish herself as the most powerful student under away's tutelage which led to her desire to rule the Jade Palace herself she challenged a way but the old turtle had foreseen her fall from grace and it prepared a prison for her that old ortus did not have a lot of faith in her at the end of her training that's for sure wait and his former owl Apprentice fought furiously but the owl could not take down her master so she fled in fear of him before she could be captured through this betrayal the Furious Five dissolved leading to many of the Masters leaving the Jade Palace but while this pain would cut deep it would not be the fighter that broke Bouygues most loyal student until that moment while continuously striving to learn and teach boo boo was bombarded by threats from within the order and beyond the celebrated healer of the valley known as scorpion who is not a student of ugh ways who became corrupted by him Natick elixir that warped her body and mind upon an accidental injection came and fought the Valley of Peace scorpion used her new power to brainwash the citizens of the Valley of Peace and launch an assault on the Jade Palace but because of boy's connection with the villagers and his hardshell scorpion stinger was shattered and was quickly defeated leading to scorpions exile from the valley Master Oogway was forced to absorb so much pain in the world that in order to keep balance but he continued to push on without ever showing sign of anger impatience or outrage hue was a person who is humble passive and remained a guiding presence for all who needed him which did lead to him training individuals that will allow kung-fu to live on as a respected weapon for peace in addition to master Chao rising in the kung-fu world so did Master Wu Shan who took a vow of silence to expand his training there was also thundering rhino storming ox and croc who were guided by a way to become the kung-fu counsel by helping them find a battle that was worth fighting hue help them take down the dangerous Wu's sisters who were striving to unify all the gangs across China solidifying them as warriors who would look beyond themselves now a few mere decades prior to the true Dragon Warrior emerging Liu glazed pupils Shifu adopted and trained the snow leopard Tai Lung and after years a praise and hard work had been given to the cub Shifu presented his prized pupil to egg wafer judgment believing Tai Lung to be the Dragon Warrior after observing Tai lungs rise though who I saw darkness within the pupils heart and refused to give him the Dragon scroll enraged Tai Lung laid waste to the valley hoping to take the scroll by force and when Shifu failed to destroy the boy he had raised hue stop Tai Lung himself that was a bad little kitty in the aftermath hue ordered Shifu to construct the chorgan prison to imprison Tai Lung as punishment for his crimes against the Valley of Peace and soon Shifu would take another apprentice named tigress tortured by his failure to stop Tai Lung though Master Oogway remained close to his friend as he struggled to teacher pupil again knowing how his mistakes could shape the potential of a student in the years to follow hue continued to preserve order in the Valley of Peace including one occasion where he stopped the careless pranks of a formidable monkey but this would not be the last time away would see that creature that would occur when away began to break through Shi Fu's coldness once more huwway sought to have Shifu open his heart again and that truly started to happen when the threat of the unstoppable borer approached when Shifu became incapacitated by a sickness tigress was the one who's forced to recruit other warriors to protect the Jade Palace though she didn't get who Shifu was looking for of course master Oogway realized there were no mistakes in who she had found tigress mantis crane Viper and monkey came together and defeated the boar which impressed Master Shifu and led them all to being welcomed into the Jade Palace by Master Oogway finally Shifu was opening up again and the Furious Five had been reformed who way had spent his entire life pursuing wisdom knowledge and peace he had the respect of Shifu the Furious Five the entire Valley of Peace in all of China he was known as the greatest kung fu master in history who had created the art form built a haven for the weak and a gifted his teachings to all who he deemed pure of heart oh that was left for Master Oogway was to locate to the Dragon Warrior and ascend to eternal enlightenment in the spirit realm so that he could finally let his pupils find their
