[Music] i want to see [Music] i want to [Music] oh [Music] i want to [Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you i welcome you to the celebration of the eucharist on behalf of frg ministry thank you for joining us for praying with us this week in bendigo quarry hill saint joseph's quarry hill a parish which is well loved by so many people in my diocese the diocese where i served it's a bit of a modern parish different to where we were last week it's a place where they there is a lot of activity going on here but not so much not as much history as the other parishes but as we begin this time of worship let's just spend a moment in silence asking god for his presence for his mercy for his love we need jesus how many of you need jesus i certainly do and so no matter where we are coming from what we have experienced even this morning last night throughout this day let's just lay it down at the foot of the cross and say jesus i come to you just as i am with my brokenness with my weakness with my sinfulness lord you give us your love and forgiveness lord have mercy you give us strength to get up again christ have mercy and lord we can trust in you always lord have mercy and may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray grant we pray almighty god that always pondering the spiritual things we may carry out both in word and deed that which is pleasing to you through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever amen the first reading from the book of samuel saul set off and went down to the wilderness of this accompanied by three thousand men chosen from israel to search for david in the wilderness of zith in a dark david and ivyshai made their way towards the force where they found saul lying asleep inside the camp his spear stuck in the ground beside his head with abner and the troops lying around him then abishai said to david today god has put your enemy in your power so now let me pin him to the ground with his own spear just one stroke i will not need to strike him twice i'll david said to abishai do not kill him for who can lift his hand against the lord anointed and be without guilt the lord forbid that i should raise my hand against the lord's anointed but now take the spear beside his head and a pitcher of water and let us go away david took the spear and the pitcher of water from beside saul's head and they made off no one saw no one knew no one woke up they were all asleep for deep sleep from the lord had fallen on them david crossed to the other side and halted on the top of the mountain a long way off there was a wide space between them he called up here is the king's spear let one of the soldiers come across and take it the lord repays everyone for his uprightness and loyalty today the lord put you in my power but i would not raise my hand against the lord's anointed the word of the lord thanks be to god responsible son the lord is kind and merciful the lord is kind and merciful my soul gives thanks to the lord all my being bless his holy name my soul give thanks to the lord and never forget all his blessings the lord is kind and merciful it is he who forgives all your guilt who heals everyone of your ills who redeems your life from the grave who crowns you with love and compassion the lord is kind and merciful the lord is compassion and love slow to anger and rich in mercy he does not treat us according to our sins nor repay us according to our thoughts the lord is kind and merciful as far as the east is from the west so far does he remove our sins as the father has compassion on his sons the lord has pity on those who fear him the lord is kind and merciful the second reading the first man adam as scripture says became a living soul but the last adam has become a life-giving spirit that is first the one with the soul not the spirit and after that the one with the spirit the first man being from the earth is earthly by nature the second man is from heaven as this earthly man was so are we on earth and as the heavenly man is so are we in heaven and we who have been modeled on the earthly man will be modeled on the heavenly man the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] i give you a new commandment love one another as i have loved you [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke jesus said to his disciples i say this to you who are listening love your enemies and do good to those who hate you bless those who curse you pray for those who treat you badly to the person who slaps you on one cheek present the other cheek too to the person who takes away your cloak do not refuse your tunic give to everyone who asks of you and do not ask for your property back from the person who robs you treat others as you would like them to treat you if you love those who love you what thanks can you expect even sinners love those who love them and if you do good to those who do good to you what thanks can you expect for even sinners do that much and if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive what thanks can you expect even sinners lent to sinners to get back the same amount instead love your enemies and do good and lend without any hope of return you will have a great reward and you will be sons and daughters of the most high for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and and wicked be compassionate as your father is compassionate do not judge and you will not be judged do not condemn and you will not be condemned grant pardon and you will be pardoned give and there will be gifts for you a full measure pressed down shaken together and running over will be poured into your lap because the amount you measure out is the amount you'll be given back the gospel of the lord we are as difficult as it is called to be generous with god to be generous with god with our finances to be generous with god with our time to be generous with god with our effort to be generous with god in prayer but one of the most difficult ways to be generous with god is through forgiveness it's through pardoning it's through forgiving those especially who have hurt us now it is difficult enough to forgive ourselves but let alone someone who has maybe even intentionally hurt us and even caused a lot of damage how do we forgive people how do we forgive those who have hurt us how do we let go well i'll start off by saying this that forgiveness is necessary if you want to be free because forgiveness the lack of forgiveness is only torturing you not the other person you haven't forgiven you giving them silent treatment might cause some some upset cause them to be upset but it will if you feel the need to give this silent treatment if you feel the need not to speak to this person if you feel the need to retaliate to revenge this person then this lack of forgiveness is destroying you it is still controlling you this person who has caused you damage is still controlling you so you need to let go and trust that god is going to be in control but how do we let go well first of all forgiveness is a decision it's a decision you have to make to will the other person well sometimes once sometimes twice sometimes a thousand times a day every time you think of that person it's a decision you have to make i decide to forgive this person and i do that simply for example by praying for them praying for their needs praying that god will bless them willing them well asking god to allow them to prosper ouch that is really tough that's one you know you've forgiven a person when you're able to will them well but 10 minutes later you might not feel that way again so that's why you need to make that decision again that's one second thing is that forgiveness does not mean defeat just because you forgive the person doesn't mean that they have won it doesn't mean that they have had the final say no actually when you forgive you are deciding to not let this person control you anymore it is a victory on your part that you are deciding hey i'm not going to let this person and the thought of this person destroy me anymore i'm going to think of this person and be able to feel joy because god has come into that situation it is not defeat the third thing is that forgiveness is not to forget and i say this we hear often forgive and forget well that's not great advice is it because to forget means to lose wisdom memories give us wisdom to forget means to allow ourselves to enter into the same situation in which brought us there in the first place if someone's abusive towards you forgive this person yes but don't allow yourself to enter back into that abusive situation again forgive but if necessary do keep your distance if necessary stay away from that situation this abusive relationship so to forgive doesn't mean to forget it's to grow in wisdom is to remember what happened but to remember with joy to remember with peace because god is with you but to act on that memory to make sure you're protecting yourself protecting your your children protecting those whom you love and care for god has given us the grace of forgiveness let's utilize this gift as tough as difficult as it is as generous that god asks us to be in this gift of of forgiveness to to jesus but also for the freedom for our own freedom we now offer our time of praise to god but also praise in acknowledging who god is as we ask for his mercy for his strength the grace to forgive i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen and so we bring our prayers to the lord god almighty who knows our desires our prayers i offer this mass for a special intention but i know you have intentions also and we just bring them to the altar we pray first of all for our ministry partners for those who make this mass possible for their generosity lord bless them a hundred fold like to pray for those who have put in their prayer requests those who have done it through social media or through our prayer request website lord i'd like to ask you that you look after their every intention their every need lord hear us we pray for the church as we soon enter into the season of lent lord i just ask that you give us the grace to get ourselves prepared for this time of preparation let us not waste this time and know that you're going to be in control and draw us closer to you lord hear us so now in the silence of your own hearts with your family just offer this time of prayer your intentions to the lord lord we ask you to receive these prayers which we pray through the intercession of mary our mother hail mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed art thou amongst women and blesses the fruit of thy womb jesus holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen [Music] oh [Music] lord i am [Music] in sacrifice [Music] wishes and dreams [Music] my heart and my hands [Music] foreign [Music] lord i offer you my so pray my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church as we celebrate your mysteries oh lord with the observance that is your due we humbly ask you that what we offer to honor your majesty may profit us for salvation through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ's death we celebrate in love his resurrection we confess with living faith and his coming in glory we await with the unwavering hope and so with all the angels and saints we praise you as without end we acclaim [Music] heaven and earth [Music] is he who comes in is you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks he broke it then he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenants which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope with shane our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face and have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil and graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever and lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sin but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always and let us offer each other a sign of peace lamb of god you take away the sins of the lord [Music] lamb of god [Music] behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i'm not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed [Music] is [Music] love in the [Music] he is righteousness so we will praise [Music] oh [Music] arms [Music] so we will praise [Music] [Music] oh [Music] i want to pray for you for your needs for your intentions we're all desperate for god for his love i'd like to pray especially for those who are finding it really hard to forgive even heard the homily today and thought maybe this is impossible for me but the scripture says that all things are possible for jesus when we trust in him when we hope in him maybe it's a sickness you're praying for and it seems like it's impossible well all things are possible in jesus name allow me to pray for you to pray for a miracle but also most of all the greatest miracle we can receive is that miracle of peace and so father god i thank you for every person for your love for them father i just pray that you send your holy spirit upon them that you give them your peace your strength your healing thought i'd like to pray especially for those who find it so hard to forgive to let go to trust in you lord i just ask that you hold them and show them that as they let go you're going to look after their every need so i just encourage you even at this moment just think of the person that makes you cringe the person who you find it hard to forgive just pray for them just watch jesus standing right there in front of them and encourage them just ask pray that they will walk closer to to the love of jesus and lord we ask you to embrace this person these people who we find it hard to forgive bless them bless their lives bless their children bless their families bless their parents bless their future bless their business lord we ask that you hold them and you give them this strength that they need lord we who are watching this blessing we ask lord that you bless them but also that you look after our needs as we let go as we trust that you're going to bring the justice that needs to be brought about thank you holy spirit that we knew in forgiveness we find victory lord i thank you for your healing for your blessing over our lives in jesus name amen and together let us pray the act of spiritual communion my jesus i believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you amen on behalf of frg ministry thank you for praying
