[Music] [Applause] [Music] hello everybody my name is Jason Parker welcome back to this channel about magic apparently season six the Penn & Teller's foolís just began a couple days ago thanks to my subscribers who pointed that out to me and in this first episode of season 6 they have David Copperfield himself on the show and apparently they're gonna switch things around and have David Copperfield judging and Penn & Teller trying to fool David Copperfield by the way I've got a lot of reaction videos to magicians especially America's Got Talent so if you want to see those just check out my homepage this is my first reaction to a foolís show and I plan to react to all the other episodes of the season so subscribe if you want to see the rest of that so without further adieu let's check out David Copperfield a little nervous about this actually we are a lot nervous because we're about to do something that no judge on any talent show has ever done before new jersey any show really this is for David Kapur are gonna do a trick and we're gonna let someone else judge us and we religiously to let anyone judge us where you let ourselves be judged by the greatest living magician the world now that's like close up [Applause] you can do to distract yourself please do now we're not going to do flying or the Statue of Liberty because you know how those are done and we don't so we're going to do a card trick for you that's awesome and this is usually so nerve-racking with a layperson with you it'll be easy we want to just follow the procedure here we're gonna have you pick a number in your head don't say it aloud and then when we turn our backs which we will do are you gonna count down that number let's say it was four count down four cards look at the fourth card memorize it remember it forever put it right back where it was but the other car is on top it's a gentleman's game we won't we won't look but don't count too loud calm down there and when you get to that point look at the card put it right back where it was put the other cards on top if you would please I want you at the top of the deck put the other cards on top or back on the top of the deck the other cards on top he done that yes now just give him a riffle shuffle and one more give another riffle shuffle any no day but we've been friends for 30 years they say cut trust everybody but cut the cards get the cards are cut and complete the cut yeah okay now you want to examine everything happens in this trick in tellers right-hand coat pocket so you want to reach in to tell this right-hand coat pocket make sure there's nothing in there and make sure there's no electronics a retweet you in makes you yeah tell the fun for me yeah Jona thought I might get rough okay you're being friendly but the pockets empty no electronics check that all out put the cards in right here now tellers gonna pull the cards out one by one okay I feel like something funny has already happened that I'm not gonna talk about it yet but let's go ahead and bond and put them down on the tape now you not to read your face or anything but you spell the card in your head each card that goes down you spell one of the letters and do spell of so it's ace of spades AC e o f s ba des the oddest would be doing it along with you but everybody be quiet don't spell it out he is going to deal the cards out that would be the first letter of the card now the cards were taken David went down pick one of them put the other ones on top shuffled them twice and then gave them a cut he shoved him twice himself and he gave them a cut and when he he will say stop after the card is out of tell his pocket so teller can't possibly do anything with the information he gets on this thing take that card right there off the top pull it toward you and very loudly what was the name of your card and show it to the other offense the four spades show it to the audience it's a cool effect I already have some thoughts about it [Applause] okay I'll go ahead and give you my thoughts now before a David Copperfield tells if he was fooled or not okay my first thought and when I pause the video earlier to make a comment is that I think everyone would notice this but when teller turned around he completely blocked off the view of the deck and you know they show these brass knuckles coming out of his pocket so he could have done anything I mean the deck was out of view for a long time I think even like a normal audience watching that would be suspicious but at least they covered it by having the brass knuckles with some kind of joke for misdirection I'm just really surprised if they would try to do something like a deck switch on David Copperfield because you would imagine he would know that I'm not sure they did a deck switch but that was kind of my first thought when it happened okay so trying to think how they did this effect the first thing that occurred to me is that teller definitely knew what David Copperfield's card was actually it's kind of funny saying David Copperfield like he's just some ordinary participant because I have to agree he's got to be the greatest living magician perhaps the greatest magician of all time for all the things he's done and accomplished so my first thought is that David Copperfield did get to shuffle the cards but he didn't get to shuffle the cards at the beginning so probably the deck was in some special order and that's how teller was able to determine what the card was David Copperfield had selected maybe he was listening to the sounds of the cards on the table or perhaps there was like a marking system on the backs of the cards so when David Copperfield put the deck onto the table teller just looked at it and used that system to determine what Copperfield's card was I could be totally wrong that's just how I would imagine the effect would be done then it doesn't matter the card can be lost in the deck because telly knows the identity of the card at that point teller turns his body so they can do this brassknuckles joke and at that point we don't see the deck anymore as I said I was really thinking it was a deck switch but after I thought about it a little while longer it might actually be not dead X which maybe Teller just added a card to the deck I don't want to go into too much detail but teller probably had some way to get a copy of David Copperfield selection and add that to the deck so anyway at that point teller puts the deck plus maybe an extra card if my theory is correct into his pocket he starts taking cards one at a time out of his pocket putting them onto the table keep in mind teller knows the identity of Copperfield's card by this point so he could just pull out whatever cards he wanted to and at the moment pull out the correct card so yeah I think that's pretty much how the trick is done at least that's my guess I don't know for sure and if I had to try to solve it in real time right at that moment without having like an opportunity to pause the video and think about it for five minutes maybe I wouldn't have been able to come up with this idea especially with all the cameras on you anyway that's enough of my conjecture let's go ahead and see what David Copperfield has to say how did you decide what trick to do well does stage illusions huge fabulous you gotta stay away from all of that so we tried to find these stuff that David had done the least of he hasn't done a lot of card stock so we went with with a card trick that has I think a couple principles that David probably knows and we I just want to add real quick that I remember David Copperfield doing some really amazing card tricks when I was a kid watching him on TV he had some kind of effect with a table about a story about his grandfather and putting the cards out and did some really nice sleight of hand with cards so it's funny that they say well maybe if you compare all of David Copperfield's experience maybe he's more focused on the grand illusion rather than close-up magic but I still imagine he's really good at it I don't know hope a couple principles that that will that will hit David on the side of the head like a baseball bat this is a huge risk there's no reason on earth to do this publicity as a matter of fact as I think about it now I don't know why we thought of this we thought this is really brave this is really great no one else would do this and there's a reason no one else would do this it's stupid but it's giving you sort of a good side now you're gonna be much kinder the people are on the show and looking down at him with his hands and his beady little eyes it's he's making notes all the time I know I know but it's terrifying I just gotta say David Copperfield does not have beady eyes come on watch someone else do it just doing your grocery list there's all this stuff you're trying to do see seeing a magic trick once I suppose singing on TV we can run it back seeing it once like that you're trying to remember did she shuffle the deck before or after she did the spread when did they go below the table when they touched their pockets when do they do this when they do that and you're trying to reconstruct that so now what's at stake here like if he guesses does he win the theater I think we haven't set that up David Copperfield has his own theater I'm sure I'm very glad you didn't negotiate because it could be David Copperfield's foolís from now on okay it's time to see if David Copperfield has figured out Penn & Teller's trick but first let's take a quick commercial break or not and we're back [Applause] before the break Penn & Teller threw caution to the wind and tried to fool David Copperfield now it's time to see if they pulled off their greatest trick of all David how do you think they did it well I didn't get every single thing about it not everything some detailing that that was really great and I made me smile for a second but mostly you know you talking code is cherry so I'm gonna talking code by the way I just gotta add I really like hearing David Copperfield's voice I guess I've seen a lot of his specials as a kid and growing up and it's just I don't know if it's so familiar or if it just has such a nice quality it's like a pleasure to listen to him talk magic like in life it's important to have order and there's two of you and there's only one of me so I think the odds are stacked against me and that's the key to how this is done who is that did he figure it out well he certainly got certainly got part of it do you need more clarification I do need more clarification yeah there were two shuffles and a god well the shuffles happened after the how do I say this without revealing anything I didn't shuffle the deck at the beginning I shuffled it afterwards you shuffle but after you've selected the car that's good you gave them two shuffles gave them a cut then they went to tell there's pocket that's right that's okay so if you had the the key to the order of the universe they're they're still in his pocket after they've been shuffled that's correct that's what I'm saying that's the key to how it works right but if you have your key yes and then you're shuffling around yes the key no longer opens the door but life's porter doesn't change thank you buddy I know what he means when he's talking about the order and the stack but when he's talking about a key like a key card principle I don't really see how that would help in this effect so and this is the same deck caresse huh he was curious if he was the decks which also I don't know I feel like I'm gonna pass out I'm gonna let the grown-ups talk okay cuz I'm so terrified just hold me up that's how I feel most of the time on this show it what's really terrifying is with our size difference when I do think you just fall down with me David what's the final verdict I say that you know there's lots of details that I do and maybe one detail that I didn't know which makes me extremely happy because I want to be fooled and that means if boobies now they get to have their own trophy [Applause] [Music] okay so I guess Penn & Teller fooled David Copperfield actually I like the way David said that he was like well there were a lot of things I didn't know and there was one thing I'm not sure about so I guess you fooled me it's kind of like if that's your definition of fooling me then okay that's what happened anyway yeah I enjoyed watching this it was a gives you a lot to think about there's certain types of tricks that our magician fuller's and this was definitely one of them they didn't go for any technically difficult sleight of hand or anything like this it's all principle based so that you could fool a master magician and I'm not saying the trick Penn & Teller performed was easy there's definitely a lot of skill and even some memorization required for that but I was a little disappointed that did something so obvious is turning tellers back to the camera and David Copperfield with this misdirection of the brass knuckles because it seems a little too obvious somehow I wish they could have come up with something a little better than that but then again if you're a professional magician duo trying to come up with some concept to fool the most accomplished magician in the world David Copperfield I can't say that I could do any better myself so one thing I wish is that they had given David Copperfield more of an opportunity to speak even just in kind of a conversational manner as soon as he got out their pen was just a lot and David's like okay all right like he's a very interesting person he's a huge celebrity everyone knows who he is even non magicians so it would have been kind of cool to just start off with like how you been doing how's life you still performing in Las Vegas just some kind of welcoming conversation would have been interesting for me David Copperfield used to make all these TV specials it seemed like almost once every year and now you almost never hear or see anything about him anymore I'm pretty sure he's just performing regularly out in Las Vegas so yeah I can say that watching the effect from my point of view it didn't really fool me there's some things I didn't know how they did for sure but I have like a really good guest if the definition is did they fool you in real time I suppose then you could say yeah I didn't figure it out immediately but I'm sure when David Copperfield walked away in the next 5 or 10 minutes he probably figured it out but it's cool that Penn & Teller decided to turn things around and perform and have someone else be the judge so that was a interesting concept so yeah I think that's about all there is to say about it by the way let me know what did you think about my discussion of the magic effect that I go too far talking about methods or is it better if I just kind of back off and don't say anything some of my commenters were asking they wanted to know like was I fooled or did I understand what they were doing so I'm trying to like walk this fine line like discussing it a little bit but not too much also feel free to leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about the magic effect was it fooling to you how did you like David Copperfield's appearance on the show do you have fond memories of David Copperfield performing on TV when you were a child what's your favorite color pretty much anything you want to comment about is acceptable and for those of you magic curious magician minded out there I will add one more comment about the trick we saw today I'm nearly 99% sure one of the principles used in the effect was similar to that that Daniel Madison created in his advocate effect again hopefully not giving too much away here just mentioning another effect from another magician which is probably related to this performance and one last thought I think it would be really cool if they brought David Copperfield back and had him perform and try to fool Penn and Teller because I know David Copperfield is very good at close-up magic as well anyway I think that's about it so click like if you liked the video remember subscribe if you want to see my further reactions to the next AGT fool us magician performances etc and I will see you next time [Music]
