day we're so glad that each one of you were here and I enjoyed so much hearing what each of you bring to the table because you're all students of the word and it's going to be an exciting study John if ever we needed prayer if we're going to cover the trumpets we need prayer could you ask the Lord sure loving father in heaven we commit our hearts to you this morning we know that this is your word and you says if anyone lacks wisdom let him ask give us wisdom this morning father there is such a diversity of understandings of even this particular prophecy but we want Jesus to be exalted in so common unifiers and may the understanding be followed by a desire to commit our hearts to Christ in Jesus name we pray amen I think it would behoove us to have a quick review a couple of weeks ago we studied the seals and the scene of the fifth seal so let me go through that real quickly this is found in Revelation chapter 6 in verse 9 and 10 it says when he opened the fifth seal and this would be Jesus who's opening this I saw under the altar the souls of those they'd been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held and they cried with a loud voice saying how long O Lord holy and true until you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth we see hear the cry of God's oppressed people from all ages now these people aren't really alive in crying out this is like the blood of Abel that is crying out and they're portrayed as souls under the altar of God crying for justice and vindication and what we must remember is that God hears these cries God is going to answer our prayers and this scene that represents the suffering of God's people throughout history is going to have a conclusion now the opening of the sixth seal in revelation 6 12 through 17 pictured Jesus returned to the earth and bringing judgment upon those who did evil on his followers now let me pause and say this as seventh-day added as Christians we employ the historicist method of interpretation - revelation that's what Jesus used Paul Daniel the prophets and what this means is that we believe that apocalyptic prophecy covers the span from ancient times right up till the coming of Jesus and we were going to apply that to the trumpets and recognize some have been fulfilled some are in the process of fulfillment and some are soon to be fulfilled now Revelation is written in visionary circles we call it recapitulation it's repeat and enlarged and we see that boy I mean if you look at Daniel - Daniel 7 Daniel 8 and Daniel you'll see that in each one Daniel states a summary of a main point and then develops it a little further so the trumpets recapitulate the errors of the era's not errors but the different time periods of Earth's history and they parallel other prophecies in Revelation each parallel analyzes the historical period from different and yet supplemental angles however the purpose of the trumpets is clearly different and that of the seven plagues amen so we haven't studied the plagues yet that's coming up in revelation 16 but the trumpets are limited to one-third of the earth so we see that there is still a redemptive purpose in this when the plagues are poured out when God pours out those final seven last plagues that there is no redemptive purpose this is after probation has ended and and he's going to annihilate the wicked so revelation 8 chapters 8 3 11 I think you will all agree is one of the most difficult group of passages are visionaries disciples to interpret the language in the imagery is very complex and it has resulted in a variety of views in application to specific historical events but it is still compatible with the historicist method of interpretation so as we look at the apocalyptic nature of the vision we know that it is going to aim at a specific time specific enough to be located in one historical event or another the vision of the seven trumpets demonstrates throughout history God has intervened on behalf of his oppressed people and has judged those on them the purpose of the seven trumpets is to ensure God's people that he's not indifferent to their sufferings so let's look at a memory verse revelation 10 and verse 7 revelation 10 and verse 7 but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel when he is about to sound the mystery of God would be finished as he declared to his servants the prophets I have months or Sundays lessen the prayer of this saints and if you open your Bibles to Revelation chapter 8 verses 1 & 2 we'll go through the prayer and the Saints quickly when he opened the Seventh Seal There was silence in heaven for about half an hour and I saw the seven angels who stand before God and to them were given seven trumpets so this opens with the picture of seven angels and they're standing before God ready to blow their trumpets but before the trumpets are blown another scene is inserted that is going to explain the theological meaning of the trumpets Revelation chapter 8 continuing in verse 3 then another angel having a golden censer came and stood at the altar what altar would this be if it's we've got the golden censer he's standing at the altar this is the altar of incense he was given much instance that he should offer it with the prayers of the Saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne and the smoke of the incense with the prayers of the Saints ascended before God from the Angels hand then the angel took the censer filled it with fire from the altar and he threw it to the earth and there was noise and thunderings and lightnings and and earthquake now we have mentioned on several occasions that the imagery the symbolic imagery of Revelation is found throughout the Bible most specifically in the Old Testament in revelation 8 3 through 5 that we just read his language of the evening temple service a Jewish commentary on the Bible explains the evening sacrifice the lamb was placed upon the altar of burnt-offering blood was poured at the base of the altar and an appointed priest would take the golden censer inside the temple and he would offer incense on the golden altar of incense now that that was the third piece remember we had the table of showbread the seven candles and then right in front of the the veil was the altar of incense so when the priest would come out he would take that censor throw it down on the pavement and it would produce a loud noise and at that point the rest of the priests priests would blow their trumpets marking the end of the temple services for the day so we see that same imagery in our passage in revelation 8 so the incense represents the prayers of God's people let me read revelation 5:8 when he had taken the scroll before living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the lamb each having a harp and golden bowls full of incense which are what the prayers of the saints it's just like in Psalm 141 when he said let my prayer be set before you as instance lifting up as of my hands is the evening sacrifice so the golden altar of incense represents the prayer of the Saints in the intercessory ministry of Jesus Christ whose prayers are continually offered on our behalf he intercedes for us and is able to save to the uttermost now revelation 8 3 said that the angel that had the gold and the censer came and stood at the off at that altar and he said it says that he was given much incense that he should offer it with the prayers of the saints I think that instance is Jesus intercessory ministry I think it's the prayers of Jesus you know as Hebrews 7:25 says he's interceding for us it's always so this is a beautiful thing that we see and the angel that offers these prayers before God God is now hearing the prayers of his persecuted people so the seven trumpets are God's judgment this is setting us up to see they're God's judgment on the rebellious people of humanity in response to the prayers of his oppressed people the trumpets follow the death of Jesus as the Lamb and they run consecutively throughout history until the second coming in this last minute let me show you one thing if we compare revelation 85 with Ezekiel 10 - we find what is the source of this fire that's thrown upon the enemies of God so we said in Revelation 85 angel took the censer filled it with fire from the altar threw it to the earth Ezekiel 10 - says that he says go in among the wheels under the cherub fill your hands with coals of fire from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city so the angel is is filling this sensor with fire from the altar hurls down to the earth and it shows that the seven trumpets that are about to be blown will be judgments on the inhabitants of the earth who persecuted God's people the whole the whole idea is that God doesn't forget his people he is going to answer their prayers and anything on their behalf John Thank You Shelley what a wonderful opening and each one of us is going to contribute something different to the understanding of the seven trumpets when I say different a harmonious connection that each has a link in the chain the seven trumpets has been a subject of so much misunderstanding and that I'm so thankful that dr. Renault Stefanovich and the committee that worked on this lesson has taken the time to calibrate our understanding to give the context and the clear meaning Shelley was very apropos that you mentioned that the seven trumpets is God's response in answer to the prayers of the saints when the one that when you look at the history of the people of God you'll find that one thing is for sure the Lord has always defended his people yes amen and in throughout each component of time in history whenever the people of God have come up against oppression or or a nation that's rebellious or people that are trying to stamp them out God always stood in behalf of his people as he said to them when they were in the wilderness and said the battle belongs to the Lord amen and so the battle tools of God are symbolized in natural elements and so you see here and if I if I go ahead and peek at the imagery one of the things that is pointing out in the lesson is that trumpets have a tremendous role to play throughout the Bible I think one of the first things I'd like to do is establish trumpets throughout the Bible one of the things we pointed out and this is true out throughout the whole study of Revelation is anytime the Bible gives a symbol the Bible also defines a man no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation first Peter chapter 1 verse 20 and 21 everything that happens in scripture has to have its interpretation in Scripture so you'll see that the as given here in the interlude between the silence in heaven in Jewish literature they call that silence in heaven the great pause before God steps in behalf of his people before God steps in and now begins to respond to the prayers of his Saints but look at numbers chapter 10 verse 8 to 10 showing how the trumpets had such a role to play in many areas because remember Revelation is a book that was written in the mindset of the Old Testament because when John wrote this there was no New Testament he would lay to become a part of the New Testament and so we have to find the language in the Old Testament that endorses the imagery that has revealed in Revelation the overview number is 10 verse 8 to 10 do you have that Jill the sons of Aaron the priest shall blow the trumpet that's 1 shall be brought you as an ordinance forever throughout your generations keep going when you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets and you will be remembered before the Lord your God and you will be saved from your enemies also in the day of your gladness and your appointed feasts and at the beginning of your months you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and offer the sacrifices of your peace offerings and they shall be a memorial for you before your God I am the Lord your God notice how the trumpets all throughout various activities shall blow them in an ordinance announcing the ordinances also sounding the trumpet when it comes to war recently I was not too long ago actually a few months ago when President Bush's funeral took place there's a difference between the sound of a trumpet for war the sound of a trumpet for taps and the sound of a trumpet for a memorial and we know that's not the sound of war we could tell just by the sound of the trumpet and the Apostle Paul says the trumpet has to give a certain sound and so we find the overview in the economy of the Jews trumpets played a major role so because the book of Revelation is written in sanctuary language it cannot omit the applications that the trumpets established in the Old Testament another reason for trumpets in Ezekiel 33 trumpets is a a warning of common destruction by verse 3 and 4 says speaking about the watchman when he sees the sword coming upon the land if he blows the trumpet and warns the people then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning if the sword comes and takes him away his blood shall be on his own head so the trumpet is used again for a warning destruction is coming another one the trumpet is symbolizes the preaching of the gospel Isaiah 58 purse one lift up your voice like a trumpet show my people their transgression the house of Jacob their sin once again the trumpets imagery and I'm reiterating this because we cannot depart from the language of the scriptures when the interpretation is sought for the Bible establishes it in such a wonderful cadence to go outside of that framework is a private interpretation the other application for trumpets is the announcement of coming judgments Joel chapter 2 verse 1 and 2 I'll read that because of the importance of time he says blow the trumpet in Zion and sound an alarm in my holy mountain but all the inhabitants of the land tremble for the day of the Lord is coming and the day of the Lord motif the trumpets is you the trumpets are used by Joel and also Zephaniah warning of the coming of the day of the Lord and is shot and it shows that when these trumpets sounded you have day of darkness and gloominess today of thick clouds you see that it's it's it's preceded by the judgments of God in the land and but joel is saying when you hear that you know these signs indicate these trumpets being sounded indicate the coming of God's judgments another one we talked about that the Day of Atonement Leviticus chapter 23 verse 23 this announcement of the atonement work verse 23 says then the Lord spoke to Moses saying speak to the children of Israel in the seventh month on the first day of the month you shall have a Sabbath rest a memorial of blowing of trumpets a holy convocation and so we find again once again is used in the atonement services when the trumpet was sounded they knew they had nine more days left before the Day of Atonement that trumple was an indication that probation is closing and it's time to repent your sins so that when the atonement work is over your sins will be blotted out and then you'll be allowed in the Feast of Tabernacles which was a seven-day celebration another application the trumpet sound indicates the noise of war we know Joshua the Battle of Jericho and we find clearly one that what they walked around and they continued blowing the trumpets and then when they got to the seventh day seven times on the seventh day the blowing of trumpets a sound of war preparation for victory also the compass is used in when Jesus returns he shall send His angels with a great sound of Matthew 24 verse 31 so the trumpets once again first the Salone and the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout with the trumpet of God so the Bible is continuing and then revelation 1:10 I heard the sound of the Lord behind me like as of a trumpet so you find the Bible is not elusive on the application but the Bible is replete but the understanding of what the trumpets mean so when you begin to see these judgments and there's a quotation here on a read from manuscript manuscript 59 and and Thank You Shelly for giving us the preview in revelation 6 and 7 because the the trumpets are a part of the seals it starts unfolding onto the seventh seal listen to this is uh I says revelation 6 and 7 are full of meaning terrible are the judgments of God revealed manuscript 59 1895 page 26 the seven angels stood before God to receive their Commission to them were given seven trumpets the Lord was going forth to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity and the earth was to disclose her blood and no more cover her slain and so when you talk about that she goes on further to say but there our mercies mix with the judgments 1/3 the 1/3 these are redemptive judgments saying that will be followed by executive judgments the Lord is saying you need to know that time is winding up and if you take advantage of the blowing of the trumpets 9 days before the Day of Atonement if you make provision for your sins to be forgiven they will be blotted out but if they're not blotted out the mercy is moved and then the seven last plagues so the same period the seven churches the seven seals the seven trumpets they run concurrent unfolding the history of God the seven trumpets however specifically talks about God's intervention in behalf of his people making it very clear in other words apropos I'm not going to keep silent any more than a trumpet is silent the Lord shall come and shall not keep silent he's never silent the behalf of his people in summary it says the first two trumpets Herald judgments upon the nation that crucified Christ and persecuted the early church rebelled against Jerusalem and the Roman Empire they United in the persecution of Christ the third and fourth trumpets portray heavens judgments against the apostasy of the Christian Church in the medieval period and the fifth and sixth trumpets described the warring factions in the religious world during the late medieval and post-reformation periods these periods are characterized by increasing demonic activity that ultimately draws the world into the Battle of Armageddon and lastly revelation 9 speaks about the speaks about the introduction of that demonic activity when it says I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to the earth to him was given the key to the bottomless pit first time the bottomless pit is introduced but is only seven times in Revelation and it's defined as the Angel of the bottomless pit the only star that fell from heaven that the Bible substantiates is Satan himself Ezekiel revelation John chapter 10 Luke chapter 10 verse 18 and also also Revelation chapter 9 the angel of the bottomless pit that brings about this demonic activity is Satan himself Oh John thank you you are so well-versed in Revelation and I know the trumpets is one of your book thank you so much Shelley and pastor John for what a wonderful introduction to the seventh Rumble I could listen to Pastor John teach on the seven trumpets all day because of your knowledge of the Word of God is specifically the seven trumpets I have the angel with the open book which begins in Revelation chapter 10 so just turn over a page to Revelation chapter 10 the sixth trumpet brings us to the time period of the time of the end and there's an interlude as it were inserted right after the sixth trumpet we just finished that in Revelation 9 in Revelation 10 and part of Revelation 11 is this interlude remember when we studied the seals we had an interlude from revelation 6 the end of the sixth seal remember they said the great day of his wrath is come and who was able to stand and then it talked about the sealing of the saints of God and the hundred and forty-four thousand and then we jumped into the seventh seal so the similar thing happens here and that there's a little interlude inserted between the sixth trumpet and the seventh trumpet so the angel over the open book let's just pick up with verse one I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven clothed with a cloud and a rainbow was on his head his face was like the sun and his feet like pillars of fire so who is this mighty angel who has come down he has four descriptive words that describe him and this is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ himself the description is clothed with a cloud rainbow on his head face shining like the Sun and feet like pillars of fire if you think about clothed with a cloud the scriptures associate clouds with the appearance of Christ Daniel 7:13 Daniel was in vision and he's watching in the night vision and behold one like the Son of man coming with the clouds of heaven acts 1 verse 9 when Jesus ascended now when he had spoken these things while they watched he was taken up and a cloud received him out of there revelation 1:7 the second coming of Christ behold he's coming with clouds and every eye will see him even they who pierced him Revelation 14 14 I looked and behold a white cloud and on the clouds that one like the Son of Man so here this mighty angel is clothed with a cloud the cloud associate in scripture with the appearance of Christ then there's a rainbow on his hand revelation 4 we talked about the throne room of heaven remember God the Father was there in the throne room and then revelation 5 the lamb the Lion of the tribe of Judah joined the scene in Revelation 4 verse 3 one sat on the throne this is God the Father and he who sat there was like a Jasper and a sardine stone in appearance and there was a rainbow around the throne an appearance like an emerald there's the rainbow around the throne easy 2:128 says the same thing that the rainbow around the throne then the face shining like the Sun that reminds me of the vision John had in revelation one Christ among the lampstands revelation 1:16 says his countenance was shining like the Sun in its strength in the forth description is feet like pillars of fire we think of revelation 1 verse 15 the same description of Christ amongst the lamp stands his feet were like fine brass as if we find in a furnace so let's read verse 2 and we get to the little book because some people are confused and saying how can you call Christ an angel the word angel just means messenger it's not that we're not talking about Christ being a created angel so I just wanted to make sure that used to confuse me thank you so much shelling for that clarification I appreciate that so we jump into the little book which is revelation 2 verse 1 we just read the first part and it says in his hand he had a little book open in his hand now contrast this with the closed scroll that was in revelation 5 remember revelation 5 1 through 4 I saw on the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the sealed with seven seals and a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose the seals now we know who was worthy Jesus the Lion of the tribe of Judah a part of a book that was previously filled what book was sealed in the past but then it was opened at the end of time that's right the Book of Daniel we see this in Daniel 12 verse 4 but you Daniel shut up the words and seal the book so the Book of Daniel was to remain sealed until a certain point or period of time shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall increase we know the certain time prophecies in the Book of Daniel that were sealed until the time of the end the 1260 time prophecy the 2300 day prime time prophecy which we'll look at again in just a moment after the little book is open you see here Christ is here holding the little open book in his hand The Book of Daniel the Book of Daniel it's featured very prominently throughout the rest of the book of Revelation we see the comparison between Daniel and revelation the beast with ten horns we see that in revelation 12:3 representing the dragon revelation 13:1 representing the sea beast that's a reference all the way back to Daniel chapter 7 I think of Kingdom and dominions given to Christ and his people in Revelation 11:15 well Daniel 7 talks about that verses 14 and 15 the lion in the bear and the leopard representing the world empires that's revelation 13 with the description of the simi's well that refers us back to Daniel chapter 7 there's a description of the second coming of Christ in Revelation 14 and we see that in Daniel chapter 7 there's the whole issue of worship in Revelation 13 worship the Beast and His image or you are going to be killed and that reminds us of Daniel chapter 3 and the three Hebrew were these who had to worship another image or they were going to be killed there's the 1260 day prophecy and persecution of God people in both of these books there's a focus on the sanctuary and the temple in both of them so let's look at the Angels stance we're still in verse 2 he's holding the open book in his hand and his left foot I'm sorry and he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land and cried with a loud voice as when a lion roars so one foot is on the sea one foot is on the land this stands at both sea and land it signifies the worldwide proclamation of the contents of this book it signifies the universal significance of the message that is being proclaimed it signifies the universal rule of the angel the Lord Jesus Christ and he cried with a loud voice like a lion it reminds me of revelation 5:5 do not weep the line of the tribe of Judah the root of David has prevailed to open this field let's look at time no longer because I'm running out of time if we jump down to verse five and we see the angel whom I saw standing on the scene on the land raised up his hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever and ever who created heaven and the things that are in it the earth and the things that are in it and the sea and the things that are in it so creator of everything this is heaven and earth and seeing everything that what does it say there should be delay no longer or King James would say time no longer I remember learning that as a kid growing up there would be time no longer but in the days of the founding of the seventh danger when he is about to found the mystery of God would be finished as he declared to his servants the prophets so let's look at this time no longer that means that time prophecies have reached their fulfillment the time prophecies the Book of Daniel the 1260 in the 2300 time prophecy have been fulfilled at this point and there is coming no more time prophecy people say well I know when the second coming of Christ is coming and he's going to be this day and this month and this year there is no more time prophecy that says there's time no longer not only are the prophecies fulfilled but there will be no more time prophecy coming in the future the end no 12 6 and 7 we'll look at the two time prophecies quickly this is the 1260 time prophecy and once said to the man clothed in linen who was above the waters of the river how long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be then I heard the man clothed in linen who was above the waters of the river when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever that it should be for a time times and half a time and when the power of the holy people has given completely shattered all these things shall be finished no we don't have time to unpackage all of that but if you apply the day for a year principle where a day equals a year and Bible prophecy it's a three and a half years 1260 days or 1260 years this is symbolic of the dark ages the dark period from 538 to 1798 when the Roman Church held full sway as it were the 2300 day prophecy in Daniel 8:14 he said to me for 2300 days then shall the sanctuary be cleansed we know this is from 457 BC until 1844 ad when Christ entered his heavenly ministry in the heavenly sanctuary pastor Kenny what happens with a little book Wow well covered well covered I had Wednesday's lesson because we've had a book Jesus is holding the book and then all of a sudden where he's talking about John 8 the book so we're looking at eating even the scroll what what does that really mean Revelation chapter 10 verses 8 through 11 this will give us a little foundation reader quickly as we can Revelation chapter 10 we're going to look at verses 8 through 11 and then the voice of which I heard from heaven spake unto thee again and said go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth and I went into the angel and said to him give me the little book and he said to me take it and eat it up it shall make thy belly bitter but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey and I took the little book out of the Angels hand and ate it up and it was in my mouth sweet as honey as soon as I had eaten it my belly was bitter these are interesting words when you re eating and tasting in the Bible is used to describe the message and accepting the message and here is getting the message eating it up and also it's good when you first eat it and then all of a sudden something happens if it's sweet and it's good you want to give it to others what I found in the message we have an Advent isn't a sweet good message and you want to give this message but here we're looking at here it's it's kind of like my wife you know at home I'm a taster I'm know if any of you at a story she whip up something good you know and put it out through there and she'll say Kenny come and come and taste this thing see what you think see if it tastes good if it tastes good I'm going to give it to others think about what we're talking about here if it tastes good we'll give to others and then if not Wow if not then that's probably what I'll have for the next week don't you have to kind of think along that line you think and this is nothing new in the Book of Psalms and it's always good by the way I burned make that clear what she means is all it's good praise God in the Book of Psalms chapter 34 verse 8 it's very clear it says o taste and see that what that the Lord is good so this is not unusual affair for the angel Jesus say here just take it eat it up and then accept it seem like it's really good and all of a sudden it's not so good taste and see that the Lord is good Jeremiah 15:16 says thy words were found what happened I hate I did eat them thy word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart though Jesus referred to himself as many times the bread of life and he invites us to take in - to eat in John chapter 6 I think is in 658 he said he that eateth this bread think about will live forever John chapter 6 you can see the verses verse 35 verse 41 verse 40 48 and verse 51 and then of course in verse 58 he referring to he as the bread and then we need to take and taste it and see if it's not good so this all fits in what we're talking about here John's experience then and eating this scroll was first week then it says it became bitter and of course this is it has to do with the unseating of Daniel and the end time prophecies this is what's the beginning happened here one dealing with the prophecy that you mentioned of the 1260 day or year of prophecy the 42 months or the three and a half years or the time and the times and dividing of times we look at this this is where God's church was really commissioned to get in there and to spread the gospel to the whole world I mean out of that dark ages there was a mission for us to do here and as you mentioned we realize that 538 to 1798 as a 1260 year period of time not it can't really get into that but it was when the papacy was really finally established in there you know you had the three that yet the ten nations Ostrogoths to hurry lie in the vandalized five-thirty as it went down that was 5:30 if that was the beginning of that prophecy and of that time so we know that stands on good and history background that we have to dig dig into then that simply goes into the bitterest experience would be what we're talking about is the 2300 day your prophecy Daniel 8:14 you know it's something we should be study if you don't know it then shall the sanctuary be cleansed we're in that timeframe tells me that Jesus certainly is coming the numbers all add up so why is you take this in it's good taste good then all of a sudden it becomes bitter and you no longer people don't don't want that the numbers added up when you're going to prophecy saying look the numbers added up we realize you we had to go from the spring to the fall and so on so it takes us a little bit but the numbers were there and and people were excited and I think I understand a little bit how excited they were because they believed with their whole heart under the Miller right Miller he I mean he really but he brought that message people really believed it and they caught the vision they studied for themselves and said Jesus was coming if we really believed it like they believed that then would we be like they were then when they sold their property when they gave everything to the cause of Christ they left their crops in the field because they just knew that Jesus was coming even though always looking I says in one little small detail no man knows you mentioned that the day or the hour and so this kind of cuts a little bit raw so how did they get past that it's an interesting message sweet became bitter and again you have it the 4:57 under art exactly you realize this when that started we realized a prophecy extended to baptism of Jesus from 27 to the 31 ad the cross of Calvary right and when then of course the 34 the stoning of Stephen also what the gospel going to the Gentiles and then 1810 left means 1844 the judgment hour I mean we these things are all good Jesus would not come back they found that he would not come back together the Saints at that time but what he did was move from what he moved from the holy to the most holy place the judgment hour began we realized that we talked about the day of atonement or the atoning work of Christ as being carried on in the heavenly sanctuary and in fact its investigative phase of the judgment which most people deny and Launcher they say there's there's not any such thing but certainly Bible proves it John was told that we he must what prophesy again he must prophesy again and what does that mean John 10 verse 11 so after the disappointment as he had told everything up Jesus was supposed to come he didn't come people became discouraged with that and there's a lot I'm just fell by the wayside so they went back they restated the prophecies and found at the end of the 2300 days a prophecy of the cleansing of the sanctuary getting rid of sin what was in the heavenly sanctuary not not anything to do with the earth of the sanctuary of the New Covenant the Bible said which the Lord did what the Lord pitch didn't write Hebrews 8 2 this is one that we should be looking to Christ is our high priest Hebrews 8:1 he's think about the priest in the earthly sanctuary served and to the example of shadow of what of heavenly things Hebrews 8 verse 5 now quickly with a few moments left revelation 11 1 & 2 revelation 11 1 & 2 it says here and there was given me a reed like unto a rod and the angel stood saying rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and them that worship therein but the court which is without the temple leave out measuring it not where is given to the Gentiles and the holy city which shall tread under foot forty and two months and what is God telling us it does it measure the temple who is he measuring here when we look at this thing who is he really measuring like werster's to remember this a manuscript for 1888 this is real counsel here remember when you were walking in the street about your business God is measuring you when you are attending your household duties when you are engaged in the conversation God is doing what God's measuring you you see notice this to see who will stand in the last great day this is what the measuring is all about measuring takes place at a specific period we know in the history of the church this to me suggests a work of judgment so after the great disappointment October 27 1844 Advent believers you know directed their attention to the heavenly sanctuary now think about this is that what we should be doing absolutely that's where the work is going on right now on behalf of mankind we need to understand this this message you know if you look at this great work what happened is the work wasn't completed our job wasn't completed and that's why it said here that what we need to go and to give this message again we have to go back why because we have to get the three angels message once again that's including the first and the second and the third angels message again prophesy again is what we are told to the world before Jesus comes and that would be giving Revelation chapter 14 with it not only the third angels message but the first second and third angels message what to simply prepare our people for the coming of Jesus so you know I think that's where we're at right now history the world God's giving us a message it's going test and try the people of God just like they were in 1844 there may be a little delaying in the time but we need to be remained faithful to the coming of Jesus realizing we do have a specific job work to be done messages to proclaim to the world and by God's grace we need to proclaim those message not get discouraged not get down and out they don't get beside ourselves they get with Jesus right and listen for the message that he has for us today and proclaim it to the world and to be ready for his coming to me that's the most important thing praise the Lord well I have the wonderful task of doing the impossible and that's communicating that entire chapter in less than 10 minutes but we know that we're simply giving a brief overview and so we're going to do that just right now my topic is Thursday's lesson on the two witnesses and also I'm going to be covering the Friday's further thought on the seventh trumpet and so you know it's interesting looking at this layout of the book of Revelation because while there is a sense of chronology from chapter to chapter there what we also know that you can't take from Revelation chapter 1 all the way to Revelation 22 as a as a you know a strict chronological sequence because there are times that God will back up and he will obviously that repeat in the large method he will review something and expound on that and we find as Jill mentioned beautifully that then Revelation chapter 10 in Revelation chapter 11 it's kind of an interlude between the sixth trumpet and the seventh trumpet and so when we get to Revelation chapter 11 we are introduced to these two witnesses and this is one of the most popular questions that I've got again on the road traveling as an evangelist all those years Ryan who are the two witnesses the most common popular explanation of the two witnesses throughout the evangelical Christian world today is most people think that they are the literal beings of Moses and Elijah that God will allow to come back to this planet and they're going to witness on this earth for three-and-a-half literal days and then they're going to be killed and then they're going to be resurrected and where they get this from is the layout of of Revelation chapter 11 you'll see that verses 1 through 6 is simply introducing to us who these two witnesses are and then when you read verses 7 through 10 it tells us about how these two witnesses are killed and then of course verse 11 through 14 these two witnesses are resurrected and so you know is it literal is a symbolic and I and you'll see in just a few moments that you cannot read this chapter about these two witnesses and take it every single word literal and I'll show you even with the with the application that it is literal the persons of Moses and Elijah there is some symbolism involved and you'll see that as we go through I'm going to start in verse 3 and we're just going to kind of unpack a few things I know I'm not going to be able to cover this entire section but we'll do what we can Revelation chapter 11 verse 3 says and I will give power to my two witnesses and they will prophesy 1260 days clothed in sackcloth so we have some context clues here that kind of give us some insight on who these two witnesses could possibly be now obviously the two witnesses I believe there's sufficient evidence that the two witnesses represent the Bible both the old and new Testament and I don't even really even though we call it the old and new Testament we know that there's no such thing as an older a new it's all the Word of God and it flows very smoothly from one side to the next but just a few scriptural references here we have a reference of the law and the prophets in Matthew chapter 7 verse 12 Jesus referred to the law and the prophets and most people believe that these two witnesses are Moses and Elijah and in a sense they are not the literal beings but obviously Moses represents the the law and of course the Elijah would represent the prophets and there's some scriptural evidence of that in Malachi chapter 4 in Matthew chapter 17 the two olive trees in Zechariah chapter 4 which we're about to read about again representing the old and new Testament this this biblical application the two candlesticks the two edged sword all a reference of the Bible the Word of God so the 1260 days obviously would represent as pastor Kenny mentioned as we mentioned several times here that Pierre from about 538 ad to 1798 ad when the Catholic Church state reigned supreme all over the world and it was indeed a dark time and we call it the Dark Ages for a reason and we'll see a little bit of that why we call it the Dark Ages in just a few moments as we get through this the sackcloth notice how it says that these were clothed in sackcloth sackcloth simply is a representation it's closely associated to time of mourning and distress we think of the Day of Atonement when when on that special day of judgment the children of Israel would set in sackcloth and ashes as they would pray towards the temple pleading and searching the soul searching themselves Lord forgive my sins presenting himself before the Lord so a time of mourning a time of distress look at Revelation chapter excuse-me revelation 11 chapter 4 these are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the before the god of the earth now I think this scripture here even further alludes to the fact that this is for sure the Word of God but we know the two olive trees are a symbol drawn from zechariah chapter 4 verses 1 through 6 and they're portrayed as a furnishing of oil for the lamps of the sanctuary and i have to add here again I know I've said this several times but it's quite impossible to understand the book of Revelation without having been exposed to or a previous knowledge of the sanctuary that's why I encourage our viewers at home all of those who are studying with us around the world study the the sanctuary message it will help you understand the book of Revelation so much better when you get to these chapters the reason why there's so much confusion about much of this symbolism as people don't understand the sanctuary that is primarily established in the Old Testament we have a lot of people today they consider themselves New Testament Christians they say I don't need the Old Testament but we know that the Word of God is the Word of God we have to take the whole pie not just half of it and we also know that this leg stand okay the two olive trees let's go back to that for a moment Zechariah chapter 4 verses 1 through 6 establishes the fact that the furnishing of the oil for the lamps the oil is a representation of the Holy Spirit in Scripture that is the symbolism of the Holy Spirit now these lamp stands we know for sure is pointing directly to the word of God for we have in psalm 119:105 you guys know the scripture thy word Oh Lords a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path and you know referring to them as being two witnesses it's the Word of God a witness oh you better believe it notice John chapter 5 verse 39 or excuse me Matthew 24 verse 14 I want to establish that one first and this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a for a witness unto all nations so there's no doubt in our minds that when we read through here about these two witnesses it's talking about the Word of God when it says the Feast witnesses were killed as we go onto verses 7 notice what it says here and when they finished their testimony the Beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them a beast and Bible prophecy represents a power a significant Nations or kingdoms and so there was a Kingdom in history and I'll just say it for the sake of time I encourage you to study this because what we're reading here in Revelation chapter 11 is a time period in which we're studying historically of the French Revolution if you go back and study the time period of the French Revolution the latter part of the 1700s from about 1793 through to 1797 98 again the end there the time of the end you will study that time period you will see that the Word of God was actually being oppressed by the French assemblies by the French governments and so when it says that they were killed you go study history from about 1793 to 1797 for a period of about three and a half years as it says here that their dead bodies lie in the streets for about three and a half days a day for a year principle three and a half years four from 1793 to 1797 that three and a half year period the Word of God was oppressed it was taken away they way they were literally the Bibles were heaped up in the middle of the streets and set afire that's why it says that their bodies were burned incredible time in history I encourage you to study this and then it says that their bodies are resurrected when you get to around verse 11 notice what verse 11 says here now after three and a half days there it is the breath of life from God entered them and they stood up on their feet and great fear fell on those who saw them because while they did try to oppress the Word of God for three and a half years around 1797 in 1798 you start to see this resurgence this revival of the Word of God being printed all over the place notice this right here this is incredible soon after the French Revolution various national Bible societies were established particularly notable among those were the British and foreign Bible societies founded in 1804 notice the time frame here and the American Bible Society organized in 1816 the these organizations helped translate the Bible into more more than 1500 languages in a very short period of time you want to talk about a revival of the Word of God after it had been oppressed this is powerful stuff in here and it gets me excited because you know when you when you try to wage war against truth truth always prevails truth always will prevail check this out volunteer a notable French atheist he had said that within his time he died in 1778 this is what he said within 100 years of his time Christianity would be swept away from existence and passed into the obscurity of history yet 50 years after his death the Geneva Bible Society used his house and printing press to produce thousands of Bibles so the Word of God will always prevail I have about 40 seconds and I'm going to quickly cover just the very basis of the seventh seventh trumpet which is basically Christ receiving his kingdoms and launching us into this judgment time period 1844 and forward I just want to give a quick summary I'm not going to be able to read any scripture there but read verses 15 through 19 for yourself the seventh trumpet represents the time period from 1844 into the second coming of Jesus during this time attention is focused upon the high priestly ministry of Jesus in the most holy place we are living in a most holy place time man and I think that's what we're actually setting up as we continue on for the book of Revelation with chapter 12 and onward we're focusing on that high priestly ministry of Jesus in the most holy place amen and amen thank you so much that was wonderful and it occurs to me though as I'm listening that for those of you who may know be familiar with revelation you're probably going where are they getting all of this we will unpack some I know in a future lesson I will be explaining about the time periods and things but one of the cheap contributors for this quarterly was Ranko Stefanovic he has a program on 3abn the revelation of Jesus Christ he has a commentary called the revelation of Jesus Christ you may want to google that in the coming cans the revelation of the coming king is our program yes thank you quick comment from everybody we've got about a minute well the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ will rise I'm looking forward to the last Trump many trumpets but I'm waiting and getting ready for the last Trump I love the fact that the trumpets even though there is judgement there's redemption and mercy mingled with it because God calls each one of us to repenting that's right man in first selected message book 1 188 says we are not to know the definite time either for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit or for the coming of Christ there's something good remembers we study prophecy faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God ABB's and shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God now more than ever we need to be focused on truth and lived the truth you know the Bible promises in Revelation actually the opening chapter of Revelation promises that blessed is he who fears who reads who who applies this word so we hope that you have been blessed today as you're hearing and even if you don't understand fully just say oh lord thank you that that you will bring me that understanding and my comment is just that I want you to remember Jesus is standing at the right hand of the throne of the Father in the most holy place right now he is interceding on your behalf and he is able to save to the most we hope you'll join us again next time [Music] [Music]
