So , I just watched it and I would say this was a great review . I don't agree with everything ( especially the S2 stuff ) but Schrafrillas did a honest unbiased albeit a very strict review of the show .

My only disagreement with the video is how much he hated S2 . I mean , its not that bad . He makes it seem like its the worst thing that ever existed while its not . I would give S2 a 6/10 because while his criticisms for it are fair , the music and animation in this season is top notch and I disagree that Korra's character got regressed like he claims it did .

Other than that , I agree with mostly everything and lmao the humour is good in that video .

I don't agree with some things he says (Lin is the best) but i think it's a fair review

funding for shaperless is provided by surfsharkvpn tune until the end to find out about their amazing service so funny story i was never actually introduced to the world of avatar the last airbender through the original series i never watched it growing up because the commercials made it look really childish and not for me thanks for that nickelodeon thanks for allowing me to waste my adolescence like that however in middle school my friends were all starting to get into this new legend of korra show a sequel series the avatar that didn't seem to require knowledge of the previous show to enjoy so i said sure why not and oh my god it was so good it had its problems for sure but i just fell in love with the avatar universe through its depiction in korra of course years later i watched avatar for the first time and holy [ __ ] it's infinitely better in almost every way but i still had a bit of a soft spot for cora some fun nostalgic memories of course it's been years since i've seen korra and i'm now an adult who frequently shits all over my fond nostalgic memories of stuff so i figured it was worth re-watching korra and seeing if this show is actually good without comparing it to avatar too much since literally nothing could follow up that masterpiece to be considered satisfying since core is on netflix now it's more readily available to the masses who haven't seen it and have heard pretty bad things about it so this is kind of my way of letting all you newcomers know whether or not the show is actually worth watching let's take a look at each season of quora and see how good or not so good all of them are starting with yeah season one is pretty good not flawless and i think the second half of the season especially kind of drops the ball in a lot of areas but damn that first half is an excellent well-paced introduction to the avatar universe in this new time period cora is a pretty enjoyable new protagonist who serves as aang's polar opposite she's brash headstrong and not afraid to ruffle a few feathers to make a point she's been training to be the avatar all her life in total seclusion but she's ready to go out into the world and make a difference and she gets her chance when she stows away on a boat to republic city the capital of the free world in a sense here she's gonna learn airbending from tenzin aang's son and the best character in season one by far she also makes new friends like the brothers mako and bolin who she joins a pro bender sports team with and asami the daughter of a millionaire inventor together they form the new team avatar which has to grapple with the evil amman and his army of equalists among possesses the ability to take someone's bending away permanently an ability previously only used by the avatar with this ability he incites a revolution against benders everywhere and yeah cora's gotta stop him and stuff the best aspect of season one is its pacing and how it gradually builds up a mine is a bigger and bigger threat as the season goes along it helps that amman is a fantastic villain with a really captivating backstory and secret identity he serves as a legitimate menace with a really scary ability and he always manages to have an upper hand on the good guys everything with him works really well except when he puts a giant oversized version of his mask on top of the avatar aang statue that's the goofiest thing i've ever seen i also love the secondary villain tarlock and how he parallels real-life fascism by rounding up and arresting innocent non-vendors in response to the equalist threat he seems like a one-note villain at first but he's also got a lot going on underneath the surface and that final scene with him may be the best in the entire season you broke the cycle tarlock that's all i'll say without spoiling anything like i said the first half of the season finds a great balance between the growing unrest with amman and this nito pro-bending sport until they both collide in a really climactic way the rest of the season portrays its story pretty smoothly as well however this is where we start to get into the character problems now like i said the villains are pretty great core is good too and tenzin is the best character jk simmons is always a win and i love watching him try and act refined and serious only to have these panic moments and outbursts it's really fun am i to understand that you cannot read tempo can you even [ __ ] read music tenzin's kids are funny too yes even milo except when he farts that sucks bro asami's fine but she doesn't really come into her own yet as a character in this season bolin is where the problems start to arise i like bolin he's a cool dude who provides a bit of levity considering how serious the rest of team avatar is but there's a lot of instances where he's just not funny everyone on the new team avatar feels pretty distinct from the old team avatar but bolin honestly just feels like an attempt at being the new saka and it doesn't really work saka just had this unique charm to him that couldn't be replicated and bolin feels like he's trying way too hard to replicate it and it's not just the writing i don't think the voice acting works for me either something about bolin's voice just isn't funny i'm sorry to say but like i said he's fine mako [ __ ] sucks he's so boring his design is boring his voice is boring he sounds totally bored in every situation he is written so terribly with the writers just deciding halfway through the season that suddenly he has a huge crush on korra it's ridiculous he treats his girlfriend to sami like [ __ ] only to flirt with korra constantly and after all the trauma asami goes through it's pretty heartless and inconsiderate okay they just decided to be a huge like like a loud ass [ __ ] cricket i don't even why is that so loud can you stop okay he stopped i had this image in the back of my mind the entire time it's just ridiculous the way this guy acts he has no chemistry with korra or asami or anyone outside of his brother but i guess that's not even true cause boling gets captured in the third episode and he doesn't seem to be concerned i guess he just keeps his cool during tense kidnapping situations right oh wait no cause cora gets captured later on in the season and he's losing his [ __ ] minds wait a minute you're telling me your brother the only family you have left getting captured isn't enough to make you panic but this girl you've known for a couple months is what is wrong with you so yeah mako is the worst and all the romance and love triangle stuff is also the worst and i hate it i also don't like lin this hard-boiled pig who's just kind of a one-note serious lady who comes into conflict with cora now and again i like her interactions and history with tenzin but that's about it okay but one character who just baffles me with their existence is general iro so i guess this guy is the grandson of zuko who's named after iro except his voice is literally just zuko's retreat to red sand island until my signal like dante bosco couldn't have given him a slightly different voice this guy comes in at the very end of the season it's not explained who he is and he just kind of joins the gang as if he's been a main character the whole time i'm sorry who are you now everyone hates the ending to season one and yeah it really is the most rushed deus ex machina ass ending you could possibly put here but considering the fact that korra was developed as a mini-series with no intention of a season two happening there's not much else they could have done here future seasons aren't afraid to end in an unhappy way with legitimate consequences so at least they learned from this misstep still without the knowledge that season one was intended as a standalone miniseries this really is a load of barnacles and probably the weakest ending out of all four seasons still this season was a pretty fun ride overall while it's not quite as good as avatar season 1 since it's a bit messier and has less compelling protagonists i think the action themes villains and overall story more than make up for its shortcomings 7 out of 10 would recommend if you can get past its flaws let's hope season 2 is an improvement holy go back season two sucks it's so bad oh my god what the hell happened here you know community fans like to rag on season four the season where creator dan harmon was fired and the writing supposedly went down the drain before he was rehired for season five and everything went back to normal they called this little blip in quality the gas leak year where all the characters acting differently was retroactively blamed on a gas leak and to be honest season four isn't even that bad and it's not even the worst season of the show season six says hi but yeah if you want the best example of a gas leakier i've ever seen look no further than cora season 2. it's hilariously bad compared to the first season remember how i said the first season's best attribute was the pacing and the slow build-up of the main threat well season two's pacing is atrocious it blows its entire load with the main villain in the first four episodes then basically writes him out of the next four and drags the tension down immensely as a result and that main villain by the way unilak or whatever the [ __ ] his name was he is so awful i don't think we give him enough credit for how truly terrible he is he's literally just tarlock again except infinitely less interesting and with a splash of ozai's backstory thrown in it is embarrassing that cora trusts him completely instead of her father and tenzin who clearly care for her more and what wants best for her she goes full sicko mode on her father for four straight episodes until she realizes that oonalock lied and suddenly her father's the best person in the world again she is either 100 on her father's side or 100 on unilak's side there is no in between whatsoever it's terrible writing which oh boy speaking of terrible writing i guess it's time to talk about korra now korra is the most unlikable protagonist ever in this season it's ridiculous they turn her into an overly aggressive [ __ ] who barely resembles the more nuanced protagonists from season one she follows oonalock blindly as he brings his troops to invade the southern water tribe and when he has kora's parents arrested she barely puts up any fights i mean i guess it's not in cora's character to put up a fight when the people closest to her get arrested oh wait yes it is she's simultaneously too lenient with una lock at the beginning and too aggressive with everyone else who cares about her her father just wants what's best but she yells at him and anyone who even talks to him at every opportunity and like i still don't like mako mr ending in a relationship is like pulling off a blood sucking leech yeah you're the blood-sucking leech [ __ ] but damn you actually start to feel bad for makko because korra lashes out at him over everything he tries to give advice and she screams at him no matter what he's saying you know what these two [ __ ] deserve each other i can't believe they felt the need to resurrect the love triangle plotline from season one holy [ __ ] the one plotline nobody wanted to see come back way to [ __ ] go guys anyway lynn is also even worse this season since she completely dismisses mako's thoughts about the true perpetrator behind some crimes going on then later it turns out mako was right gee what a surprise maybe if you didn't suck at your job you actually listened to him the president wouldn't have been in trouble makes you think doesn't it the season also grinds to a halt to tell the story of the first avatar ever but it's not built up to whatsoever outside of genora seeing a statue of him in one episode after cora had visions of yacon in season one since aang was trying to warn her about tarlock you'd think avatar wan would want to give korra some visions this season before we see his full backstory setting him up better for us and warning her about the big evil kite of darkness that's gonna destroy the world that's kind of important to warn her about juan i mean maybe juan just didn't want to deal with her which like yeah i can relate to that okay so is there anything good in this season well yes i'm glad you asked the story of avatar 1 is definitely the highlight here everything about it is phenomenal except the giant darkness kite he is a complete joke and he sucks my enjoyment out of every scene he's in but like the wind waker asked picture book art style is great the story in world building is fantastic and i love seeing juan and rava grow to care about each other it's not amazing since like i said the villain is embarrassing but it's still really good it's so good that you start to forget what show you're watching but then it cuts back to cora and you get really disappointed the wand story also really could have used more build up so it didn't feel like a complete 180 from the rest of the season like i said so aside from these two episodes is there anything that can salvage this season anything or anyone at all well i'm glad you asked everybody say hello to iknick blackstone varric aka the single best character to ever come out of legend of korra varrick is a godsend and the only thing that kept me going throughout this slog of a season he manages to serve as both the comic relief and an important key player at the same time he incites rebellions between the water tribes for the sake of prophets and he's a generally shady dude but you never suspect him because of his goofy exterior it makes for a great unpredictable character whose allegiances you can never truly pinpoint and good lord he's hysterical i'm genuinely shocked that the people who wrote barrick are the same people who wrote the rest of the characters in this season nearly everything he says is comedy gold and it's not just the writing it's the impeccable john michael higgins contributing some amazing delivery as well aside from varric there's some other pretty good stuff like tensing getting a really strong character arc and some good interactions with his siblings and bolin becoming a star in varric's newfangled movers is enjoyable as well his toxic relationship with unlock's daughter is also occasionally funny and iro shows up i like airo and his role in this show seems like a logical progression of his character from the original the zhao cameo is cute too but man all this good stuff drowns in an ocean of suck especially in the last few episodes it's a painfully generic end of the world plot line with two painfully generic villains fusing and turning the show into a painfully generic kaiju movie and it's just flat out embarrassing i don't want to spoil the endings of the good seasons of the show but with this [ __ ] who cares unavatu is the dumbest [ __ ] thing ever his design is hysterically bad and the fact that his grand plan to envelop the world in 10 000 years of darkness involves just wrecking [ __ ] as a giant godzilla monster is just too much literally what were they thinking but it gets better korra meditates in order to turn into giant blue korra who defeats unavatu with the help of the inexplicable genora fairy it really is the lamest most out of nowhere [ __ ] i could barely tell what was going on and i didn't even care i just wanted it to end honestly this season really made me hate everything involving spirits and while the idea of focusing on them was a good one since they weren't seen that much in the original this execution really sours the entire concept so yeah season 2 sucks but you kind of have to slog through it in order to understand seasons three and four honestly though varric almost makes it all worth it i was gonna give this season a three out of ten but varric is just that good that he elevates the experience by an entire number score so i'm giving legend of korra season 2 a 4 out of 10. thank god it's over let's talk about the great season now [Music] season 3 of korra is so good that it's a genuine shock to the system for those of you who stopped watching after season 2 please for the love of god come back it gets better the first episode of season 3 had me worried since it focused on more spirit shenanigans after cora decided to leave the spirit portals open but then she gets banished from republic city and we don't have to focus on spirits anymore what a damn relief the focus is instead on traveling through the earth kingdom and recruiting people to rebuild the air nation with since leaving the spirit portals open somehow triggered air bending abilities and a handful of non-benders around the world not really sure how that works but i'll buy it makes more sense than half the [ __ ] that happened in season 2. much like season 1 the best thing about this season is its pacing it's surprisingly laid back during the first half and it's just a nice journey with likable characters looking for new airbenders and i cannot stress that enough likable characters cora is likable again and even mako doesn't annoy me probably because they mostly partner him with the only character he has good chemistry with bolin you're a [ __ ] this leaves korra and asami to deepen their bond and it's a really good strong bond we spend a lot of time in an old location basing say where we get to see how it's changed since the era of aang but then we also get a cool new city xiaofu we get to meet lin's frankly wonderful family and see her get some much needed developments even if we have to deal with her at her worst before that happens also i hate this stupid kai kid who steals everything all the time but even he goes through development and gets better as the season goes on this first half of the season is just a nice journey very much in line with the first half of an avatar season however the season slowly but surely builds up its main threat throughout the first half as well and what a threat he is zahir is a true return to form for the show's villains a former convict who now possesses airbender abilities he stands out as a formidable foe with really interesting motivations and philosophies behind his actions i mean holy [ __ ] did you ever expect to see an airbending villain in this universe it's crazy they made that concept work but it does because zaheer is so devoted to airbender philosophies that he pushes the capabilities of airbending farther than we've ever seen it go hi goop video is here i'd just like to point out that sahir is played by former black flag vocalist henry rollins that's pretty neat his crew of unique benders are all pretty enjoyable as well and they only grow in terms of menace as the season progresses the stuff that happens with zaheer and the earthqueen took my breath away it's so great and the action in particular really stands out this season because of how unique and cool all these new benders and their abilities are i also grew to really love bolin this season from his romantic pursuits to his lasting fame from the movers to his desire to metal bend which let's just say that last plot point subverted my expectations with its payoff this season also reintroduces us to zuko which yeah a little weird that no one mentioned he was still alive in the first two seasons and now he's just suddenly here he doesn't do a ton of stuff and you could kind of write him out of the season but it's still nice to see him when cora tells him she spoke to iro in the spirit realm and he just stands there stunned i don't know that just gave me the warm fuzzies it's such a great moment and for the first and only time in this entire show the finale is actually the best part of the season everything in the season builds to this brutal harrowing last stand against zaheer and it's honestly near perfect the stakes are technically lower than season 2's but they feel higher because they're more personal more visceral and way more compelling not only is the final battle incredible but the lasting consequences it has for cora and the other characters is what really makes it special i don't have that much else to say season three is just solid maybe the pace of the first half of the season is a little too slow sometimes and overall it still doesn't quite hit the highs of seasons two and three of avatar but it's still enjoyable and worth slogging through season 2 to get through in fact that's another cool aspect of this season it actually ties into season 2 and picks up its story rather than pretending it doesn't exist like some franchises i know i just think it's really awesome that season 3 continues the ongoing story and doesn't try to ignore harmonic convergence or unlock just because they were terribly implemented they still happened and the fact that this season manages to build something great on top of these sucky events is really admirable there's a time and place to just ignore a sucky chapter and pretend it never happened but the creators realized that a serialized drama action show wasn't the right place to do so and i'm so happy they did that it sucks that we can't just skip season 2 when watching the entire show for the first time but it's great that they didn't just try to bury it entirely so yeah great season worth waiting through the previous [ __ ] to experience eight out of ten time for the big [Music] the finale half of season four is phenomenal no joke this [ __ ] is on par with avatar at its best the tension here is off the charts it's been three years since the events of season three and in order to fill the power vacuum in the earth kingdom that sprung up thanks to zaheer a new threat emerges kuvira an earthbender from zaufu who is actually a minor character in the previous season that's a really neat detail kuvira is legitimately the best avatar antagonist since azulla she's an absolute monster who seeks to unite the earth kingdom by force and eventually unite the whole world silencing anyone who gets in her way her motivations are logical but her methods are sociopathic she's been compared to real-life dictators outside of the show but there's another comparison no one ever seems to bring up in a flashback sequence that takes place shortly after season three ended we see sue ruler of zafu and sister to lin declining an offer to rule the earth kingdom saying she doesn't want to impose her ideals on the rest of the nation kuvira however tells sue that zaufu is a beacon of progress and that they should share this progress with the rest of the world and that's exactly what fire lord sozen said about the fire nation before starting the hundred year war it honestly gave me chills to hear kuvira express those exact same sentiments and it's genius because it shows how history continues to repeat itself dictators will always spring up and want to impose their ideals on the rest of the world by force it's not an instance of the show lazily copying something that came before like with oonalock pulling in ozai and usurping the throne it's a chilling parallel to the constant cycle of dictatorships in real life kuvira was well on her way to turning the earth empire into the new fire nation and if she wasn't stopped there might have been an even worse war because holy moly varric is back and he's created the avatar equivalent of the atomic bomb for kuvera when he grows a conscience and tries to shut the project down kuvira holds him captive and forces him to keep working on it bolin also thinks he's doing good at first by working with kuvira and helping villages but it turns out kuvir's interference leaves the villages in worse shape than they were before and it takes bolin a while to fully grasp this kuvira's manipulation skills are legendary and she grows as such a gradual threat over this first half of the season refusing to relinquish her power and snatching up more and more earth kingdom cities before finally turning her gaze towards republic city she's intimidating ruthless interesting and yeah a near perfect villain honestly guess cora needs to stop her oh wait she can't after three years she's still suffering from the physical and emotional trauma zahir left on her the first episode of the season focuses on every character except her leading into the second episode solely about her titled korra alone you're kind of setting us up for disappointment by copying the naming scheme from zuko alone but honestly this episode while not quite as perfect as zuko alone is phenomenal it shows an aimless broken young woman trying to find the best way to cope with what happened to her and move on from it and it's just incredible it's a powerful as hell journey for the main character to take and it continues into the rest of the season adding some more intense drama to the story on top of all the intense kuvira stuff and then as if things couldn't get any better they bring back my favorite avatar character top and she hasn't changed one bit which is perfect i expected katara and zuko to mature and act wise in their old age but old lady toff being anything other than cranky and rude wouldn't fit her character at all she acts exactly how you would want an elderly toff to act and she lives in the swamp where aang first had a vision of her holy [ __ ] how much better can you possibly get somebody toff takes a yoda-like role in this season training cora and trying her best to help her move past the incident with zaheer we also get a surprisingly enjoyable episode with tenzin's kids going on an elite mission to find korra which by the way milo being an amazing artist is honestly such a hysterical running gag i love it and we also get a ton of great varric bolin shenanigans as they try to escape kuvira now that they know she's an evil maniac varrick's assistant julie also gets her own stake in the plot and it leads to a great character arc for varric where he learns to appreciate her asami has a nice subplot where she reconnects with her disgraced father it was completely unnecessary to bring him back but i'm really glad they did it had a really nice payoff in the end mako gets paired with a spoiled prince wu future ruler of the earth kingdom and while he's a very love it or hate it character i mostly enjoyed him he's like a budget kuzco and he goes through a similar character arc as the season progresses plus it's fun to see mako suffer levity and drama are balanced so well in this season it has some of the funniest and some of the most dramatic moments in the entire avatar saga there is this clip show episode in the middle of the season that the creators had to make since if they didn't they would have had to lay off their staff a few weeks early long story tl dr nickelodeon treated the show and it's crew like [ __ ] the last few seasons but that's a story for another day so we have this clip show episode that mostly works the mako and wu stuff feels natural enough since mako's explaining events that wu wasn't here for and these chippy heads are cute additions the korra and asami stuff is hilariously lame since they're just blatantly explaining events to each other that they both lived through so yeah that sucks but the episode is totally saved by varric telling the epic story of how bolins saved the world from the chorus stopping evil force 4 or whatever they're called i'm not sure if i like that name i mean evil squared might be better whatever the show pokes fun at unlock for being a terrible villain and they generally clown a lot on the ridiculous finale of season two and honestly it's infinitely better than season two ever was this segment made me laugh hard it's basically an abridged series within the actual show itself so yeah this sounds like a season on par with seasons two and three of avatar right well not quite remember how i said the first half of the season is amazing yeah that second half isn't quite up to the same standard in all honesty it's still really good but not amazing kuvira makes a giant platinum colossus mech suit which makes for a jaw-dropping reveal but then it kinda loses its luster fairly quickly the final battle against this thing is very fragmented and it just doesn't hold the same tension as the zahir battle it's honestly not that interesting of a threat and the battle against this thing goes on for a while i don't know man it was a neat idea but it just didn't hold my attention very long at all compared to crazy blood bending powers air suffocation techniques or the supreme power of sozan's comment there's a lot of great moments in the second half of the season like what happens between kuvera and her fiance varric and julie finally getting engaged and the stuff with the sami's father like i said earlier but it's just too scatter shot for my liking i feel like much like with una lock they might have played their hands with kuvira a little too early as she doesn't progress much in terms of her threat level from the first half of the season to the second half that sounds crazy to say since she has this giant mech suit in the second half but again like unlock it just doesn't grip me as much as the more grounded visceral threats that aman and sahir posed i guess i'd say that kuvira is the best villain but not the best antagonist zahir has her beat in terms of being a monstrous force of nature that tears everything apart the ending also feels very rushed everyone gathers for varric and julie's wedding but we don't get a lot of final scenes with most of these characters we've grown super attached to again if any of these problems were a result of nickelodeon screwing with the crew behind the scenes then fair enough i'm just glad they were able to give this series a decent end rather than a bad one i should probably end by talking about korrasami and what a big deal that was at the time to have a same-sex couple in a cartoon targeted at kids it seems quaint now given how much more explicit representation we've gotten in the past few years but at the time yeah this was something special i was personally a kurosami shipper when i first watched the show but in hindsight while i still think they're a great couple with great chemistry i'm conflicted over whether or not the show quite earned this conclusion the pieces were there seasons 3 and 4 established a great bond between the two of them that could easily be construed as romantic but i just wish they interacted even more pb and marceline from adventure time had amazing chemistry and a ton of episodes devoted solely to their interactions which made them a believable romantic couple korra and asami just didn't interact much in the back half of season four and if their relationship was focused on more it would make more sense for this to be the relationship that we end the show with like ang and qatar's relationship was after all the explicit build up it got but on the other hand my problem might be that i'm trying to view this final scene as representing korra and asami as a fully formed couple who wanted to get together this whole time but couldn't until the fight was over in actuality this might be the moment where they first realized they had romantic feelings for each other or even when they first realized they were bi that's why they don't kiss but they do gaze into each other's eyes ready to start this relationship neither of them had fully considered before but again that's just one way to read this scene they also could have gotten romantic feelings for each other in the three years they were apart and they only didn't kiss here because nickelodeon wouldn't allow it ultimately my main problem with korrasami boils down to i wanted more of it beforehand which i think shows how natural and believable their chemistry is i'm really happy they got together but i'm also kind of pissed we never got to see them as a couple on screen after watching two seasons of that love triangle with mako [ __ ] the boyfriend's so terrible he turned both of his girlfriends gay you love to see it so yeah season 4 is also pretty great the second half just doesn't quite live up to the high standards set by the first half overall it's a little bit weaker than season 3. it's not as strong of a package but it does have many of the best moments and storylines in the entire show eight out of ten [Music] mathematically the legend of korra gets a final score of 6.75 out of 10 when you combine the score for all four seasons and i don't believe in decimals so let's round that puppy up to a seven out of ten so is it good uh yeah i guess so it's a solid worthwhile show that i definitely recommend checking out obviously avatar is the much better show but i don't think korra is a failure of a follow-up it's really good in its own right despite having one god-awful season it's a series that gets a lot of unnecessary and excessive hate in my opinion i totally get why a lot of people hate this show and it's totally valid to do so but this is not the worst show ever by a long shot if you don't suffer through the agonizing ordeal that is all eight seasons of voltron legendary defender you don't get the talk i've said it before and i'll say it again that's a show that's as bad as the most hardcore korra haters say korra is the legend of korra is a very mature show with a lot of thought time and effort put into it i really enjoyed revisiting 75 of it and while i'll obviously be rewatching avatar more often i'll still revisit this show every now and again as well check it out if you haven't as long as you keep in mind that it gets way better after season 2 i promise anyway i'd like to take this opportunity to warn you all that the dai lee is watching your every move they see everything you
