[Music] me on the everlasting arm what oh blessedness what a piece of my [Music] yes [Music] yes [Music] the scripture reading is coming from the 18th chapter of luke's gospel verses 35 through 41 and it reads and it came to pass that as he was to come nigh unto jericho a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging and hearing the multitude pass by he asked what it meant and they told him that jesus of nazareth passes by and he cried saying jesus thou son of david have mercy on me and they which went before rebuked him that he should hold his peace but he cried so much the more thou son of david have mercy on me and jesus stood and commanded him to be brought unto him and when he was come near he asked him saying what wilt thou that i shall do unto thee and he said lord that i might receive my sight and jesus said unto him receive thy sight thy faith has saved thee and immediately he received his sight and followed him glorifying god and all the people when they saw it gave praise unto god i read the 18th chapter of dr luke's gospel verses 35 through 43 may god had a blessing to the readers he is and do as well his most holy word hallelujah we have a prayer please dear heavenly father we come to you this morning lord just thanking you for today lord i ask that you just be in the midst of bible um sunday school this morning father god i ask that you be with the teacher bless those who hear father god and bless those who are on their way all these things we ask in your darling son's name amen hallelujah amen good morning labc sunday school morning okay it's good to see you all out this sunday morning uh we're in september now it's supposed to be the beginning of the fall huh hallelujah uh today is september 12th the year 2021 we're on lesson number two for this fiscal period and our lesson this morning will be coming from the second second samuel versus the excuse me chapter six verses one through five and verses 14 through 19. the title of today's lesson or the subject of today's lesson is praise in dance we're going to put a move on amen all right no you don't want to see that last week we were singing up some praises okay today we're going to be dancing up some praises uh authorship again is samuel and the time span is somewhere around the year of 931 bc 931 years before christ okay in the process of growing up you heard me saying anything back there huh and the process of growing up you're the youngest one in here so that's the reason why i'm picking on you okay many of us if not all of us have had some big ideas about what we wanted to do when we grow up now some of us believe that everything should be given to us on a silver platter that's what some people think you know they don't want to do anything for it they're just supposed to be handed over to them okay as time pass on and reality really sets in you begin to realize that life itself can be difficult and often disappointing as we gradually mature into the real world we experience some good times we experience some bad times we're experiencing some successes and some failures and it's all a part of growing up that's all it is it's a part of growing up we're going to mess up we're going to do things right sometime don't pat yourself on the back too frequently not because you know you might have to remove that pad somehow so when we're experiencing failure a lot of times we may have felt like just giving up we soon realized that if we just give up today you're going to be in the same position tomorrow when you wake up nothing's going to change the old model is if at first you don't succeed try try again amen this was uh the same model that king david probably used probably used and his rise to kingship he experienced many ups and downs even after receiving his kingship okay but in his growing process he knew god and understand and understood that god was responsible for all of his successes as well as keeping and protecting his chosen people of israel david loved the law so much and lord loved them you know david was after the lord's own heart yes indeed that he wanted to construct and to build a temple for god and uh he wanted to do this but that wasn't going to be you know david had a lot of blood on his hands david had a lot of things in in his in his closet you know that he didn't want to show everybody but the lord said no we're going to pass this on to you somebody else put it pass it on to your son which he did so once god freed his people the people of israel from egypt and plotted their journey to the holy land god's presence was always directly affiliated with the ark of the covenant his presence was always affiliated with the ark of the covenant which was constructed according to god's specific specifications this was about the year 1446 bc and this ark was israel's most sacred object sacred the ark was uh housed in the innermost part of the tabernacle that's uh leviticus 16 and two and uh we talked about the tabernacle it's not a permanent building because israelites were on a move so quite naturally place of worship had to be on a move also and you're familiar with with the innermost portion of the tabernacle with the with the priests that could only go in there once a year and they had to be fully 100 110 sanctified they had to bail on them and and the rope tied to them and just in case they were not as sanctified as it should be and they go up and touch the wrong thing by accident before you know it someone has to drag them out you know so you're familiar with that okay after god let his people into the promised land his people abandoned and deserted the covenant and it did this through certain types of rebellion that did it to retribution and multiple times of repentance and restoration oh lord i'm sorry he forgive them she does something else to get them started back again then they mess up again and the lord get them started again then they mess up again you know the lord has so much patience just like the rest of us but he has a little bit more than us i think yes a lot of it but anyway around the year of 1070 bc the ark was captured by the philistines and the philistines suffered major health problems and it was inflicted by god because of the fact that they had this ark of the covenant and don't forget what the ark of the covenant is symbolic it's not new i'm not that's using the wrong word symbolic means it's not really something the ark of the covenant was the presence of the lord amen so even after being you know it after getting sick so many times they attributed their problems to this ark in order for us to get well we're gonna have to get rid of this ark so even after being returned to israel the israelites still disrespected the ark they didn't give it direct you know it's it's another box and this this attitude resulted in the deaths of about 70 people after about approximately 20 years of just being there the ark was finally in the care of king david hallelujah it took about seven and a half years for king david to mature i keep using that word mature serenity because we're in the process of of growing up and growing up into his kingship and put other things on the back burner so now after about seven and a half years he's matured into his position as king and he could direct fully his attention to the ark of the covenant amen and all of that to say this is where we come in at second samuel chapter six verse one okay so can someone please read the verse one you got that microphone there well that's all right all right first getting on to god pastor warren uh deacon taylor uh uh sunday school uh verse one says again david gathered together all the chosen men of israel thirty thousand thirty thousand and it starts off with a game which means that something must have happened before that okay again now david got a 30 000 of his best soldiers to bring the ark back to jerusalem this was an important step toward providing a central location or central place of worship for all of israel the number 30 000 was significant in the fact that it was the number of men who died when the philistines originally defeated the israelites and captured the ark and this is validated in first samuel chapter 4 verse 10. now david decided to bring the oak to jerusalem in order that the city of jerusalem might be the religious location as well as the political capital of israel okay not just the political but this is going to be the the sacred place this is going to be the city of god this is the place where the tabernacle the presence of the lord is here amen so that brings us a verse to someone verse two reads and david arose and went with all the people that were with him from baal of judah to bring up forth and to bring up from thence the ark of god whose name is called by the name of the lord of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims amen now the ark of god is the ark of the covenant the two names are synonymous which god had commended moses to make more than 400 years before david's time that's a long time 400 years so you know that hulk had to be put together very very good not to be rotten or or destroyed with wind weather and in different people's possessions and philistines people who didn't care about it excuse me putting back into the care of the israelites and they act like they wasn't worried about anything but it was still intact in perfect condition bill of judah was only one day's travel away from jerusalem now the ark was a wooden box or a chest completely covered with gold and had a golden lid on the top known as the mercy seat okay the ark was three feet long three feet nine inches long two feet three inches wide two feet three inches high within was the ten commandment tablets the jaw of manner and aaron's ride amen those are the physical objects that there but those physical objects i have to go back and they represented the presence of god now the ark of the covenant uh represented the immediate presence of and the glory of god in israel not anywhere else now it is in israel and what david wants to do is to put it into jerusalem whose name lord and notice that the lord is all capitals the big big super big l and neither the rest of the worlds are smaller but smaller capitals indicated by small capital letters within the text was equivalent to the name of yahweh the jews in respect and the sacred verbalization of who god was they did not want to call his name that's how sacred it was so instead they would use something else and a lot of times the word yahweh would be used and the yahweh interpretation means i am that i am i am who i am and god's personal name of israel that's what it was the host in this sentence refers to the angelic beings who serve the lord and that's also angelic beings on each side of the mercy seat in the form of the sheriff hams verse 3 30 verse 3 please that was in gibeah keep going [Music] amen now it really isn't knowing exactly what david chose to build a new car to transport this very precious cargo you know i could understand his his happiness his joy and his knowing how sacred it is and everything he wants to do something special so he was excited you know and uh the levites priests were aware of the instructions given to moses relative to the building specifications as well as the means of transporting the ark they had an awareness of all this lots of speculation relative to david's decision to build a new ark for transportation has been rendered but really don't know why so regardless of his decision he was only concerned about bringing the orc to jerusalem from the house of benedict david had the new car built and it is now being driven to jerusalem by the sons of a bit of bemnap uzad and ohio the design of the ark and the designs of the memes of transportation required four levites to carry by means of two staves two long poles that were kept and put through the gold rings okay the sanctity of the ark mandated that it be carried by levites the family of priests that's what the levites wore therefore we now know that putting the ark in a cup and a court regardless of the fact that it was a new court or not which would be pulled by oxen rather than carried by the priests of men was not in god's original design yes sir just leave it on when they first recovered the ark uh they didn't know the right way to to to transport it and the story in the bible says that uh they were traveling on the road and uh the car tipped and it was about to fall and i forgot his name but a man touched trying to hold up the car well there's no need for you to call his name because i'm going to call it sooner or later all right okay all right all right and so i mean and the joy that david because they finally knew how to you know saying carry the ark and that's why you know amen but carrying the ark by caught being pulled by oxen was not in god's original specifications for the means of transporting okay now the philistines got away with it because they were philistines they were not israelites so while the ark was still in their presence they touched it you know they carried it this way they carried but they were not israelites they were not god's people they were not the ones who god gave specific specifications about how to do it how to do this and how to do that they were outside us so the innovations of the philistines was one thing but the innovation of david was another thing all together and that brings us to verse four and verse four i'm gonna go ahead and read that okay verse someone the next you could pass the michael on to somebody else and be prepared for verse number five and they brought it out of the house of abundant app which was at guiab gb how to pronounce it gimbal okay accompanying the ark of god and ohio went before the ark oozide is a means strength ohio means friendly so now we have strength leading up and friendly out in front all right all concerns to joyfully move the ark but without inquiring of god or looking toward his will now the method of transportation was a good thing done in the wrong way amen verse 5 someone verse 5 reads and david and all the house of israel played before the lord on all manner of instruments and made of fur wood even on harps and on south trees and on timbrels and on cornets and on symbols amen so judging from the importance of the occasion and all the different instruments named they were having themselves quite a joyful party of thanksgiving they were jamming but now we have a problem none of this please the lord god because it wasn't in his desire which means that all of this was done in disobedience to his word the actions was a joyful worship type of experience yes it was so even though they felt good about their worship they did not realize that worship is about pleasing god and not pleasing themselves that's what worship is about okay when we are driven by his word we can know how he wants us to worship him go back to his word david you know question the priest do you know anything about this they want they had a full awareness of what god had directed moses to do and how to do it and everything but that step was avoided well the celebration was cut short by a tragedy the caught carrying the ark tipped and the ark slid and when uzad tried to stabilize it and inadvertently touch the ark he lost his life he wasn't a philosophy he was an israelite he was one of the people that god had given these instructions to and so you're wondering yourself well why the best explanation you could give he wasn't a philistine he but he was one of god's people the party ended and david left the ark in the house of abundance until a greater degree of respect was harnessed it took him a while god's word and instructions must be obeyed verse 14 please the 14th verse says indeed amen prior to david's reckoning concerning uzei's death david was angry because of god's reaction the reaction of god to ousaid and the death of uzard his anger was based on confusion he couldn't understand why his god and why his own good intentions were not enough david eventually found the answer to his dilemma and the answer to his delivery was follow the word of god very simple and once he come and figured out his dilemma he moved on to his successful second attempt remember we opened up the very verse verse with a game now this is the again the second time around first david follow god's word moved awk into the house of obed edom a levite a family of coasts and the co-athletes were the ones who god had originally designated as being the caretakers of the ark this was the levite family that god originally signed as the caretakers number two after the orc had been moved only six paces from the house of obed eda david is not taking any chances this time hold hope stop everything right now we're going to give god some praises here yes we on the move now we don't want the same thing to happen this time what happened the last time so david now stopped everything and he sacrificed oxens and fatted sheep and he also explained to the priests the mistake he made in the first attempt to transport yeah i want everybody to understand what happened huh i was upset i was upset and i gave you and i didn't i didn't give you a reason for anything but now i understand what it is that i did wrong and now we're moving and i want you to understand what we need to do to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen again now we're real on the move and david is dancing before the lord with all of his might the dance will do to if at first you don't succeed try try again only do it the right way amen now the epoch that david wore was to communicate glory and beauty it was a holy garment the fact that it was a lemony pod epod means that he set aside his royal kingly robes and dressed like everybody else you know i'm no different and my wife added when i was studying she said does the clothes really make a man no just because you got on all this gold stuff to make you can it doesn't make you who you really are you know i like my saints you know bud i'm i'm here right now you know everything everything is good so the clothes does not necessarily make a man verse 15 someone david the orc is successfully on the way you eat a bread you know sacrifice off oxfords and everything we on the move all of israel and david are celebrating with a loud shouting of which you could only hear the sound of the trumpet right now the trumpet was built to be loud you know you could use it in battles you could use it for the armies to designate what's going on for child for attack for retreat it's built that you could hear it above anything else it was also used to assist in the falling of the wall of jericho after after seven times marching around going make that loud noise blow that hall and the walls come tumbling down verse 16. we're moving right along 16 says and as the ark of the lord came into the city of david macau saul's daughter looked through a window and saw king david leaping and dancing before the lord and she despised him in her heart now king david's wife really didn't appreciate david's exuberant worship i noticed i didn't say dance i said his exuberant worship because that's what he was doing now he wasn't doing it like previously for himself he's knowing how to worship to please god and not himself or the other people she felt it wasn't dignified for the king of israel to express his emotions before god all his people but there will always be those people who will criticize god's chosen people when they give themselves worldly to god in celebration now michael was originally given to david by king saul now we know king saw us so that the hands of the philistines would be against them this was a ploy on his part because the philistines hated them some saul so if his wife was there i mean if if his daughter was there and along with king david the philistines would always have a right against king david even placed some of his service some of saul's servants in close around the general area of king david like aspires anything that you see him do you know that that that that you think i need to know just come on back and tell me so that lady that he gave us his daughter this lady i don't know but his daughter that he gave was really not given in in earnest and her attitude about it really wasn't too hello you know yeah like huh you know why you out there with all that that's that's not be fitting for who you really are you're somebody bigger than that than to be out in the street dancing all over the place in front of everybody verse 17. okay verse 17. and they brought in the ark of the lord in his place in the midst of the tabernacle that david had pitched for it and david offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the lord amen thank you after many years since the ark was lost in battle the ark was now finally returned to the tabernacle and set in the most holy place the emblem of god's presence and the glory of god was finally set in the proper place in israel the proper place was a place where david's heart was i want god to be his presence to be here in jerusalem where jerusalem forget about the political aspects of jerusalem the city i wanted to be the spiritual city the city of god the city of the presence of god so all of us and even those around us our neighbors our enemies would know that this is god's city right verse 17 and 17 b says and go and david burned offerings and peace offerings before the lord now the burnt offerings were rendered as sacrifices uh in in the sense of being a concentrated worship consecrated worship the peace offerings were synonymous with fellowship now these offerings express expressed things and uh obligations to god they'd and uh indicated the joy and the happiness of the occasion and a strong desire to praise god for making this event possible praise him for allowing this ought to be back where it should be once and for all and verse 18 verse 18 and as soon as david had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offering he blessed the people in the name of the lord of hosts amen now david's offering consisted of seven bulls and seven rams that sounds like a lot huh but as compared to the offerings that his son solomon would render upon the completion of the temple that he would build years afterwards when king solomon came into the kingships and he built this temple without the sound of the tapping of nails against melanin all of this time solomon was the one to build the temple even though david wanted to do it himself but there's one difference david's offerings what'd i say it was seven what i said seven seven bullocks and seven rams king solomon's offering was 20 000 toxins 120 000 sheep that's an offering that's an offering it doesn't matter but but as far as lord is concerned david was given with his heart so it doesn't matter about the number david desire was to please please the lord through joyous celebration and sacrifice it was done to show thanksgiving to the lord for his presence for his presence and his presence was the ark of the covenant because we say it wasn't just the ark of the covenant wasn't just a symbol of god it was actually god's presence there verse 19 and he dealt among all the people even among the whole multitude of israel as well as the women as men to everyone a cake of bread and a good piece of flesh and a flag on of wine so all the people departed everyone to his house amen amen i don't want nobody to be left out of this celebration no one simply said david shared his celebrations with all the people everybody we're talking about the soldiers we're talking about the priests we're talking about the rich people poor people the workers everybody he didn't want to leave no one out of this celebration so the question for today is do we have reasons to be thankful today right now but how are we going to celebrate for all of our blessings this is a thoughtful question and today's lesson reminds us that there can be a right way to celebrate and there could be a wrong way to celebrate does the ending justify the means or the manner in which you get to where you're going i made it this far but even right now i'm x number of years old i don't care i'm 75 years old but lord knows the stuff i have been through the mistakes that i have made and knowing just knowing now behalf of the awareness of who god is i'm not talking about years ago when i was 20 25 30 years old when i was still on pablo and believe it or not i really was as far as the presence of the lord was concerned in my heart but as i began to know and to understand god then i could look back over my life and i could see the mistakes that i made i could see god covering me i could see him not allowing me to get hung up in certain situations you know i could see me going into into battling vietnam and stuff like that and i could see myself on guard duty 12 1 o'clock in the morning you know uh you can't see anybody you see gunfire out there okay this is this is my testimony and what applies to me does not apply to everyone in order for me to be if i was totally 100 and i'm being honest if i was totally 100 sober totally 100 without any additional factors to give me some degree of bravery i don't i think i would have lost my mind but independent of what it was that i did the lord was good enough to me to see me through now i may not see the enemy but those who've been over there no you could smell them i don't care if they're six seven eight blocks away of a mile well there's no blocks but you can smell it in your nose with now they could also do the same thing with us but it's it's our god that brought me back safe that made me realize once i got back to stateside that i don't need this i don't need that and i get so upset with people when when they look at someone in the hospital or uh watch this military man on the sidewalk you know with hung up with drugs and stuff like look at it you know they don't understand what this may have went through at all period so if you walk in somebody's shoes then you might be able to say something but knowing the lord and the way that he had those situations and what he has brought me through i know that my rejoice my celebration in him has to be done in the right way and that's what this lesson is about now i am so joyful about who the lord is but i still want to know the word of the lord so i could go about this celebration in the right way amen so uh minister lewis and thank you for that testimony also uh that really shows that you know uh how good god is and in today's lesson uh prays with dance i what i got of it you know was thanking god for second chance a second chance even though you know uh david had the right intentions you know we like deacon taylor said we have to go about it the right way we just can't worship god how we want to we have to worship god on his terms on how he wants us to worship him and uh and once we get that the revelation you know how to worship god the right way how to to to praise god the right way then than then like david did you know he danced you know i'ma danced out of his clothes you know and and and was not ashamed you know of of his exuberant uh joy that he had for god you know uh when we get that revelation that you know like dick and taylor said that how god has covered us how he's brought us through whatever situation that we're in you know and we can look back and it would make us want to dance also you know and thank god for for his cover his his mercy his mercy his mercy uh uh is is overwhelming you know because uh we shouldn't be where we are right now if we just look back over our lives and the decisions some of us may of all of us make us ain't no one perfect you know ain't no one perfect so god is we all act something and god has brought us from something and then just thinking about that we should be like david just want to dance and praise god and and and uh uh just give him all the honor because he so rightfully deserves it and so in this lesson praise and dance david is showing that you know not only that uh he has learned from his mistakes but he is also uh uh not caring about how other people see him you know sometimes you know as believers we want to you know put our our our faith in a in a box you know you don't want to you know uh be out there so everybody can see it you know which is not what god has wanted us to do he said we are called to be the light of the world and so we should let our light so shine that you know that everyone sees it and so david was letting his light shine so everyone could see it and i don't care if you don't like it if you think i'm i'm i'm this it don't take all that it might not take all that for you but it takes all that for me because i realize i understand how good god is and and i want to just praise god right now amen i can't shimmy like uh dick and taylor did but you know uh i praise him in my own way amen and so if there are any questions or comments yeah okay so here's the arc so it was a three by three feet by nine inches wide long and then three feet high six and so in this you had the uh you had the ten commandments you had the uh the manna which got that was that was the bread from heaven that god fed the israelites when they were in yeah and then also aaron's butted rod so and they were right right and so i guess uh what was the man's name that touched it uh ezra so they carried it on the cart and it tips over and you think you're doing the right thing or doing a good thing but if it's not according to god's will and and what he wants it's not what we do or what we think you know we have to make sure that we are uh obedient to his word that's why you gotta be in your bible you know how you gonna know what god wants if you're not neat or reading the word so so nobody can come and tell you well we should do it like this now the word of god says we have to do it like this and i don't want you know what i'm saying me to be struck down because i listen to you and you got me messing up and god said well hey you have to write heart but you did it the wrong way so that's the that's the that's the ark of the company right there so if there's no more uh comments or or uh uh questions we can stand uh and be dismissed for our 11 o'clock service and sister you
