Today, the shooter who killed five people and injured 19 others at Club Q in Colorado Springs pleaded guilty to 50 federal hate crimes. They are already serving a life sentence for state charges. Federal prosecutors say the shooting was a premeditated attack and the shooter who identifies as non binary, shared anti gender views online. The US Attorney's office says they also expressed an interest in mass shootings. The federal plea deal allows for the shooter to avoid the death penalty and be sentenced to multiple more life sentences plus another 190 years. We expect to hear from prosecutors in less than an hour. We will bring you the latest today on nine news at four o'clock right now. We wanna take a live look outside looking like a gorgeous Daisy and blue sky. Just a couple of clouds over the city. It's gonna be a lot cooler than it has been the last few days, but in true Colorado fashion that won't stick around for too long. A couple of days of reprieve and we've got the one and only chief meteorologist Kathy Saban with us this noon, Kathy. I love to have you on your own. I'm just thank you for inviting me on any time. And I heard that the only way it could come on is if I brought cooler weather and you did. There you go. Thank you. 99 degrees yesterday. It's not even, technically summer. We just missed a record by one degree yesterday. Uh, but not today. Let's go out. We have beautiful blue skies and temperatures in the sixties. The cold fronts kind of draped there right across Pueblo and up to the Liman area and out toward re but look at these numbers, a big change from yesterday and the 24 hour temperature change is about 12 degrees different from where we were this time yesterday. And the other big story is the wind, the wind yesterday coming in out of the south created a critical fire weather scenario. Now, today on the back side of the front, the winds are coming in out of the northeast, still blustery but us cooler, stable layer of air red flag warning scaled back to include the San Luis for low humidity, windy conditions, warm conditions. Denver, no longer included in that red flag warning and check this out. We have snow showers in the northern mountains. That's right. A little bit of light snow around steamboat Meeker and north of the Kremlin area. Severe weather threat is well east of our forecast area but we'll keep an eye on extreme southeastern Colorado today as it is a level one out of five in terms of the potential for storms with wind, lightning and hail. And late this afternoon, there may be a little storm that rolls right into Douglas County in Jefferson County. That's something I'll be watching for about four or five o'clock. But in the meantime, cooler and calmer today, we're Mormon right back up though, in about 48 hours and thunderstorms return tomorrow. The timing and the impact of that coming up. Erica Kathy. Thank you so much. The Interlocken fire has been burning for a week now in Lake County right now, it is 86% contained. It's burned almost 740 acres southwest of Leadville near Twin Lakes. Nearly 240 firefighters are working to contain it. The fire was started by an abandoned campfire last week. The Bear Creek fire burning in Douglas County is now fully contained. The US. Forest service says lightning started it on Sunday 14 miles northwest of Castle Rock near Platte Canyon Reservoir. This one was a small fire. It burned just three acres before firefighters were able to get it under control. Right now. The N TSB and FAA are investigating after two people were killed in a plane crash Monday in Steamboat Springs. The plane went down between two mobile homes. No one on the ground was injured. The twin engine Cessna crashed into West Acres. Mobile Home Park. The Row County coroner says there was a man and a woman on the plane. Both of them died. The plane took off from Longmont and was headed to Ogden Utah when it crashed, the fire from the crash burned two homes plus a number of sheds and garages. We still do not know what caused that plane crash and we're getting a new view of a small plane before it crashed in Douglas County. Over the weekend nine news investigates obtained this video showing the plane nearly landing on I 25 near Larkspur on Sunday. The small plane ended up crashing into a grassy area just off of the interstate emergency aircraft. That 11 the FAA says the pilot was seriously hurt. A passenger had minor injuries. We do not know what caused the plane to go down. We do know an identical plane registered to the same company made an emergency landing on Fox Hollow golf course in Jefferson County. Two years ago. Both planes are registered to Marsh equipment out of Aurora, Oregon. We reached out to the company and we were not able to get in touch with anyone. A man is in custody charged with second degree murder after a deadly shooting at a church's chicken in Aurora. Police arrested Je Tassan on Sunday. Police say he opened fire inside the restaurant off of Colfax and Oswego on Friday evening. Police also tell us it started as a fight. Then one man was shot and killed. His name has not yet been released in entertainment news. This noon, Justin Timberlake was released from police custody this morning. He was arrested last night in the Hamptons for driving while intoxicated. The 43 year old singer appeared in court this morning in New York. He was released shortly after TMZ reports. He was charged with one count of DW I and cited for running a stop sign and failure to stay in his lane. Timberlake is due back in court on July 26th. On this date in 1983 Sally Ride became the first American woman in space as a crew member on the space shuttle challenger. She went back to space for a second time on the challenger the following year in 1984 ride passed away in 2023 after battling pancreatic cancer. Among her numerous awards and accolades. She posthumously was recognized with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. She was also featured on a US postal stamp and it was one of the first two honorees in the US Men's American Women Quarter Series.
