living up there [Music] morning folks welcome to the lake district national park this is day six or seven that i've been here bombing about in the mountains i did a long day yesterday looping around the langdales um from bowfowl right the way around to pave the arc so i'm feeling a bit knackered i got had a sleepless night last night so it's a bit of a struggle to get going this is my latest start so far but i'm pretty excited because i was just like looking over the maps like hmm where should i go tomorrow knowing that the weather would be good and i've decided to come to one of my all-time favorite places in the lakes and that is botami um this is where we're gonna scatter penny my westy who passed away last year it's just just a very treasured place in my heart um but i'm excited because i'm gonna do a slightly new route today so basically i'm gonna head across the river and then up so we're gonna go up to blueberry tan which is sitting in the bowl there then up to red pike and i think it's high style and then seat and then we'll loop back round i may or may not go over haystacks which is uh one of the first places that i ever went up as a kid actually um but there we go it's definitely a sun cream kind of day i'm thoroughly burnt from yesterday despite lathering myself multiple times that's okay it seems to happen every year this time of year so this is part of the experience ah deep breath let's get the sun cream on and then let's hit the road or the trail [Music] all right bye car in case you're wondering i've just uh slipped into this spot here on the side of the road so now let's walk down into bottom here itself and crack on with his walk buttermire is a tiny little place comprised mainly of a few farms and pub buildings the church of saint james dates back to 1840 which replaced a chapel dedicated in 1507. just down the road is the bridge hotel standing on an 11th century site where a bakery once stood there's a psychopharm tea roofs might have to go there later provided they're still open by the time we get back down so there is actually a pay and display car park here in buttermir um i didn't park there but i just went to use the toilet i paid 30p and there wasn't even any rock it does drive me a little bit crazy you pay for parking pay for a wii i think yes you're trying to protect the national park but there's also like come on uh pretty much every video i end up having around at some point about parking or playing for a week so that's that moving on right let's get this walking on the go just uh looking up at the root you can hear and see sour milk gill coming down from blueberry tahn i love the names around here can i just point that out um looks like it's gonna be a relatively straightforward descent we can either climb up through the forest or alongside the gill and once we get to the tan you know there's a lot of elevation already gained i'm i'm pumped about getting up high i i haven't been up here before so i'm really quite excited about that [Music] here we go the shores of vladimir and check out this view for me buttermir is like nowhere else on earth despite the sometimes dense crowds it's a place that offers tranquility and peace hope and happiness it's a place to be still and remember smile at memories and rest in gratitude for the present all right so there's sour milk gill coming down there we'll check that out later because for now i'm gonna cross over this bridge follow that cyclist and then head up this path here into the woods the path ascended under a shady canopy with streams of light occasionally breaking through it was lovely being surrounded by native trees of all kinds oak rowan silver birch and more on the ground ferns and bilberry grew their branches connecting as they're holding each other in celebration of life the birds were singing and really i was too onwards and upwards this way and that the path was quickly becoming a new favorite here we go this is the uh tree line right here so we're gonna go through this fence here and then continue our climb out of the shade sadly can you see my sweat mustache it is hot today just like that though we've left the tree line as i said and we've got fantastic views opening up over buttermilk itself it's uh it's really cool actually to be just slowly slowly over the years taking off all the peaks and paths across the lake district and it's just a endless array of memories right here [Music] we're getting these mind-boggling views over kramek water scale forces over there as well oh fantastic and ranadale of course famous for the bluebells [Music] [Music] [Music] here we go look at this emerging to this incredible ring of mountains there's red pike there to the right the ridge all the way around it's gonna be good and the tan should be just in the dip here looking forward to seeing it not been here before here we are blueberry tarn hear that the town was a peaceful spot and i stopped sitting overlooking the waters watching as fish leaked for flies hovering just above the surface here we go leaving the beautiful town behind heading up to the summit of red pike seven five five let's get this done and we're on the ridge for a bit i wasn't planning on doing dodd but i'm here and i feel like i may as well just to take off another summit i don't know if it's a waiting right or not i can't remember [Music] i have a feeling i'm about to have my socks blown off oh my goodness oh my goodness look at what is opening up around us this is insane [Music] here we go moving the top boom that's all the energy i've got wow wow yes wow there are no words to describe the beauty of this scene right now oh gosh now that is a view you don't get every day all right that's dot done now we're heading off to red pike there's quite a long way up more than anything i'm just quite astonished by the significant redness of the bedrock really stands out anyway let's get our feet on that rock let's get up that mountain it's uh getting a little bit steeper now which is very exciting actually i haven't done much sort of screen stuff since i've been here um this year and i've been here for a whole week already i've done quite a lot of different peaks i have to admit the screen always reminds me of uh great gable that was the most extreme ski i've ever descended in squiddy ski yeah they were screw skiing my words were all jumbled up backdrop is stunning and forwards is also really quite impressive a bit tricky with the having my camera out there all good got this little stretch through the rocks here almost looks like it's worn away by water but i very much doubt that i expect this is very man-made and potentially they'll even slab this at some point it seems the whole of lake districts going that way just to help reduce erosion of the landscape ah cool and as the ridge look fantastic oh it's going to be good so excited about this walking here we go the summit 755 gosh that looks like the highest point to me approximately all these folk hanging out pretty good place to be on a pretty good day oh geez i got is in a deal it was a fantastic summit in the sunrise with far-reaching views in every direction perhaps most impressively over enerdale valley and endeal water the most westerly lake in the lake district i sat overlooking kromek water the longest of the three lakes in the bottom valley [Music] good stuff so i've just thoroughly consumed most of my food oops and pressing on now from the summit leaving the views over granite water behind i'm gonna head up to high style highest point on the route today well i don't know if you can see that but behind this can there's a big bulk of a mountain that my friends is great gable and behind that scaffold pike quite a view well god red pike looks really far away even i don't feel like we've walked for very long nearly there anyway good job highest point for today that's a good little ascent and very much worth it for the views that's really spectacular it feels a little bit like we're just walking on this ridge way to heaven it's just glorious up here i've just stopped so many times and sat and gazed tried to take it all in and as i said before every peak almost now represents a journey that i've been on at some point since 2018 when i really started to work full-time running spend more time in the wild the lake district is the real map of my life the map of my personal growth and the compass for the potential that lies within me [Music] that's where we're headed along the ridge a bit of a way to go and haystacks is tucked just behind there fleetwood pike is there in the distance as well it's a pretty good looking view so we can find this path a bit of a free-for-all right now it's really really warm now i'm just pulling up to the top of high crag 744 and then we're going to drop down to c which takes us right down to 500 and something okay proper deep steep descent now to seat the final peak and then we'll drop all the way down into the valley and buttermilk oh that wind is really picking up is uh quite steep and scary actually um also i've definitely caught the sun i sat up there for about an hour i'm just writing because i find that that helps me process but uh now i'm on my way and hey i have a full bladder and this is not the best idea with the full bladder and b i feel like my legs have gone to sleep so fun whew now those steps happy days that is helpful yeah actually once there was the slabs it wasn't too bad i'm a bit nervous about the other side of seat though dropping down into buttermilk because i just remember every time walking up towards haystacks and looking up at the path like geez that is that it's not what you want to call a path so let's see what that looks like these days navigation along the route really couldn't have been simpler and with the descent behind me i was feeling light upon my feet and energized by the landscape i was moving through even haystacks looks quite domineering in front of us from this position haystacks was one of alfred wainwright's favorite peaks he loved it up there and that's actually where he's scattered so it's also you know for many foul walkers hill walkers ramblers whatever you want to call them almost a pilgrimage that is made up to the top of haystacks it's wayne wright who has made the lake district what it is today certainly in terms of outdoor pursuits and walking although he was a bit more of an anti-social type so i don't think he'd be so chuffed with the knowledge that 25 million people come here each year oops and there's buttermilk below and just like that seat is left towering above us and we've made it to scarf gap past so this is the past that brings hikers up into these fellas more often than not let's begin our descent back down to buttermilk from here then it's pretty straightforward i'm excited because i could see some bluebells from up there so let's have a look and just instantly it's a wall of heat it is a hot hot day [Music] oh my gosh look at that this carpet bluebells that is so intense you know i have i've been here during bluegrass season before but that is this seems a bit extreme so [Music] [Music] [Music] horizon good stuff speedy descent happy days it's good to just be light on the feet um i'm really pleased actually i remember last time i was here my knees were killing me so they definitely healed up and i feel 2020 has been a mixture of suffocation and actually i think my body's been grateful for the bit of a break in changing uh muscle groups because i mean cycling a lot um you guys can see i can't i can definitely feel i've burnt my face oops it feels so red and my ears need to pop so i feel a little bit like i'm in a bubble but anyway anyway anyway we're going to be down at the shore of bottom here um just so cool to be looked over by the peaks that we've been on today and then from here it's just a couple miles max i think all the way back to the car feel very satisfied very good um i hope you guys have enjoyed it enjoyed the views maybe this inspires you to get up high maybe near you maybe not i'll leave you with this beautiful waterfall we would always sit here and play as kids growing up thank you for watching guys and until next time enjoy your adventures and stay wild [Music] you
