hi i'm ricky and i'm susie recently we returned from a four-day trip to the lake district where we were amazed by how beautiful the scenery was and how much there is to do watch our video guide for ideas of the best things to do when you visit this epic national park [Music] any trip to the lake district is incomplete without a stop to ambleside town it's popular with walkers and climbers that use this area as a base for exploring due to its central location we spent a few hours exploring the quaint town which has a lot of independent coffee shops tea rooms and hiking shops of course have a tea with a view overlooking the [Music] fells [Music] just to the north of the town you'll reach a nature trail that leads to the breathtaking stock guild force this 70 feet waterfall has stunning viewpoints and beautiful natural scenery it'll take you around 20 minutes to get to the top from ambleside town it's not to be missed [Music] located minutes away from ambleside is the immensely popular lake windermere which is widely regarded as the heart of the lake district the lake spans 18 kilometers and is surrounded by rolling hills small villages and abundance of tourist attractions plan to spend a full day here [Music] the first place on your agenda should be the busy tourist town of bonus it's home to the famous beatrix potter attraction plenty of bars and restaurants and a scenic lakeshore [Music] the number one thing you want to do here is to head out and experience the lake rent a canoe kayak small electric boat or join a guided boat tour to see windermere away from the shore if you do plan on renting a boat or booking a boat tour we recommend booking online at least one day before you arrive it's often cheaper with discounts and you'll avoid the long queues [Music] another great place to check out is brockhole on windermere home to the lake district visitor centre which is an attraction in itself we were amazed by the sheer amount of activities on offer here archery mini golf electric carts and a treetop adventure park are just a few of the things that you can do here you could spend a whole day in this picturesque park and not be bored we recommend packing a picnic and stopping for lunch [Music] once you've seen the east side of the lake catch a five minute ferry over to the west shore when we visited it costs one pound for pedestrians and five pound if you're crossing with a car there are two reasons to check out this side of the area the first is beatrix potter's home which has been transformed into a national trust site called hilltop secondly the fairytale-esque rey castle is only 20 minutes down the road whilst it hasn't fended off any invasions and doesn't have a lot of history it's a cool place to see and the scenery is like something straight out of the storybook [Music] another great place to see in the lake district is grasmere town which is probably our favorite day trip it's one of the smaller towns and you'll get a feel for local village life in the first 30 minutes of being there [Music] go for a stroll in the woods with daffodil garden and sample some of sarah nelson's gingerbread next door it's re-owned to be some of the best in the world you can then wander the independent storm or gift shops in town the best time to come would be in springtime when the daffodils start to bloom [Music] grasmere is also the home of the famous poet william wordsworth stop by his home of dove cottage for a tour and see what inspired his work [Music] [Music] so [Music] walk 10 minutes south of town and you'll reach a narrow picturesque road that leads you on a walking route around grazimi lake if you don't fancy the challenging hikes high up in the hills then this is the perfect walk for you we absolutely loved it [Music] [Music] another must-see lake is the huge and somewhat mysterious lake of olds water it's widely regarded as one of the most impressive lakes of cumbria due to its size and shape we visited on a cloudy day and was still mesmerized by its natural beauty [Music] right on the edge of the lake the town of pooley bridge is the main stopping point for visitors with its futuristic looking crossing bridge and terraces of outdoor cafes and restaurants is well worth checking out you can walk to the lakeshore in five minutes [Music] [Applause] just down the road to the north of the lake you then have aeroforce waterfall and nature trail hike up through the trees and across streams until you reach the towering air force it's a great place to get out in nature and is one of the top rated waterfalls in the lake district [Music] this national trust nature trail is completely free to visit you just have to pay for parking aim to arrive as early as you can as the car park fills quickly [Music] further south on the complete opposite side of the lake to pulley bridge you can't miss the tiny village of glenriding it has a boat dock full of adventure tours and a long scenic walk by the lakeshore we loved how quiet and peaceful this town was compared to other areas of the lake district and the scenery was stunning [Music] my the final messy destination on our list is the full of character market town of keswick stop by castle rig stone circle on the way into town this elusive gathering of rocks is one of the oldest stone circles in the uk and the surrounding scenery is gorgeous [Music] once you arrive in keswick town you can roam the colorful streets the future bakeries pubs cafes and outdoor areas that are best enjoyed on market days when the town comes alive we spend a few hours wandering the streets and grab the light lunch in the sun [Music] to round off a great day in keswick walk through hope park and past theatre by the lake to derwent water this is a great place to rent a boat or go for a long scenic walk the shoreline has guided nature trails and park benches to relax on for the best view drive to the very south to a viewpoint called surprise view so that's all from us thank you for watching and if you liked the video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe for more travel content
