well they are the fast becoming the must-have tech accessory for your home but choosing the right smart speaker just got even more confusing with the release of apple's home pod mini we couldn't resist it could you and i before um and then sorry about that alex someone uh will alex is doing he's not sorry we started playing the boys from the man as it were um there's a there's a whole bunch of new devices and let's see how they stack up to all their rivals um well you thought he was a hologram didn't you but he's actually real it's unbelievable don't tell tech god trevor long is here in the flesh apple first yeah the home pod mini so this big guy over here that's been the home pod for a couple of years 500 but at 149 the homepod mini is an unbelievable smart speaker so music is the number one thing people use these for so hey siri play islands in the stream by kenny rogers and she'll now listen to that she'll go to apple music island's in the stream by dolly parton and kenny rogers now playing so the thing is i've got these set up as different rooms right we'll we'll get to the music and sing it no no we can do it while it's playing okay all right good so you can have music playing in one room another room or you can have them as a stereo pair but my favorite thing is let's say you're at work or you're on your way home from work in the car i can make an intercom message to the whole home or to one particular room so i can say hey i'm heading home your rooms better be clean kids and now that message will come through that message comes through over there so i can send an intercom message from room to room from my phone from my watch from the car to the whole home order one right from downstairs to upstairs you need one of those little speakers in every room yeah well you can just have one of those in the kitchen and you could you could shout a message from anywhere you like hey and of course the number one hey siri stop the number one thing these things are used for after music she's naughty she's a smart home so this is just a standard light globe uh it's from nano leaf it's a brand new kind of smart light glow but if we say hey siri turn on the bedroom light well would you want to do that well my kids have an alexa in every room and they can turn on and off their own lights carl because they don't turn their lights off yeah so you can use a stamp that's a really good point really really cool okay so google has been around for a bit longer than all these guys in terms of smart speakers and they probably are the most dominant speaker in australia they've got the little tiny mini this guy here is just new it's called the nest audio nice big sound for the same price as the home pod mini 149 so really good sound party sound but i like the fact that with google you can also get devices with a screen but also big sound brands like harman kardon this guy here at harvey norman's about 650 bucks but it's got google bills come back to that one to finish off yeah let's finish off with alexa and alexa again they've got nice affordable products like this little echo dot here for about 79 dollars this one's got a clock on the front so great as a clock radio for the kids on the bedside are you getting up too early yes so this little guy again alexa tell me a joke fun things like that what did the llama say when it got kicked out of the zoo i don't know i'll pack in my bags here's my favorite thing about alexa is the australianism right so we'll go one step yeah alexa tell me a john farnham joke yeah how come john farnham is so good at finding the beat i don't know he's got two strong hearts yeah okay a classic fantasy alexa tell us a dirty joke no [Laughter] oh that's dirty you can ask for alexa tell australia a dirty joke has eight wheels and flies i don't know a garbage truck it's a dirty joke get it that's the best it's pretty good
