so you think somebody's trying to hack into my computer oh no that's not good thank you for calling support hi i was just trying to reach somebody because i was having troubles with my computer at home okay i'm sorry can you say that again my name is judy j-u-d-y the name of this boyfriend my name's judy okay i'm not just asking you what kind of proof that you're facing oh when i try to start start it up the screen kind of flickers and then it just won't let me log in all the way okay confirm um computer brand name which brand that you're using it's a a dell okay that is solid i remember the person you are sitting with microsoft it's just like the the screen where you log in to open your computer okay you can turn on your computer go to your desktop first and have you installed no i try not to install anything that might not you know be good for my computer okay so you think somebody is trying to hack into my computer oh no that's not good i'm sorry i'm having a little bit of a hard time hearing you did you say did i change my wi-fi password recently did you share your wi-fi password with anyone in the last two or three days oh that's a good question well my cousin did come over the other day to have some coffee and i think that she had asked if she could have my wi-fi password okay so you know like i will provide the information okay so you can proceed with the perspective so in that application you can i can check who is hacking into my computer yes ma'am you can easily check that thing so what you can do now here yes i do have the window key press the window key and then oh at the same time i'm supposed to press the window key and the letter r at the same time and what does that do um do you have any run box do i have any what run i don't see anything coming up no very silent it appears i'm still on the phone but all there is is silence i muted myself i have no idea what's happening thank you for holding up okay what are you going to do yeah i'm here i'm sorry you're transferring me you're gonna transfer okay okay okay i wonder if it's gonna be the same guy or if they're actually gonna transfer me to somebody else you never know how that works you know like when you're asked to speak to a manager when you're talking to a scammer is it actually somebody else because i think on past scam call videos they've just like been like hello i'm so-and-so and just tried to speak different but it's the same person hi i'm sorry i'm having a hard time hearing you but i am here hello hello i'm sorry i'm having a hard time hearing you but i am here can you hear me yes mom i can't hear you so i believe that my actually must have told you that here's yeah that's what the guy said that's i don't know how that could have happened though i'm very concerned yeah we need okay we need to secure your things like we need to secure your network and your devices right right i yeah that's is that the next step so after you get hacked you want to secure everything and you're going to help me do that yeah so first we need to secure the device with the microsecure server so that we can secure each and everything and get to know what all the data has been okay and what it is required to be done okay okay all right so i'm gonna cut you some simple stuff so you have to follow that right so what you have to do just focus on your keyboard so on the left bottom of your keyboard you can see there is a window key which has small squares on it can you see that yes i see it so what you have to do is so press the window key and then press our first right window i see the window button but when i press it it doesn't nothing happens try to try to do it again send to windows key then r rs is over so you have to do windows window r yeah i don't know nothing is happening for me here window okay mommy you're not doing correctly that's right just hold the window keys and press r then release it hold window press r and release it if i press window then r the little thingy comes up for a remote desktop connection like what's that all right can you tell me like how big i was happy with you before i support that i'm so sorry it's really hard to hear you all right let me know let me connect you from the better line so that you can hear me properly right so just hold on okay she's gonna connect me with a better line i don't know how she's gonna do that might even be my phone that's the problem but i'm not going to let them know that so if you do press the window button and then click on the remote desktop connection hi yes i'm here yes okay all right so now what you can do mark you can just put the phone down and i'm calling you from another number so you have to answer that call okay you don't have to call anywhere like i'm calling you back right okay feel like this is a first where there no i have been called back before but it's been a long time but if she never calls back i hope she does she's like keep your line clear like i was gonna go make 25 phone calls really quick i wasn't spoiler alert so i was saying before when you do press the window button and then r the remote desktop connection comes up which of course they are trying to access my computer because when you can access the remote desktop connection somebody else they can open all your stuff so a great example is a lot of people save passwords right so they could then log into my email maybe even log into my bank account start spending money get access to that there's a lot of different things that they can access by just having access completely to your computer and there is a lot of danger there so very ironic that they're telling me that i've been hacked they know nothing except that i have a dell computer which i do here in our office so i'm gonna wait here for a second but i'm not a hundred percent sure that they're gonna call me back so oh oh oh they're calling me back already wow that was actually really quick we'll see if it's a better connection hello hello hi yes just bear with me okay can you hear me now yes i can hear you so much better now thank you great i like her we're gonna like so just hold that window key and press the r key r is in robot so you have to do window r window then r you have to do it at the same time oh at the same time i thought you were saying first the window button and then r and then what was coming up was the remote desktop okay okay there's this little box that comes up when i press window r at the same time that says run and then it says open something all right so that must be a run box so inside that box there is this like blue color bar in it can you see the car yes so is that bar is empty or something is written in that box yeah there's something written in there so you have to clear that by pressing the back page you can clear yes now it is empty now right there www it's three time w w w dot [Music] say that again like do you like uniform you [Applause] [Music] desktop connection i'm not doing any of this because it's very dangerous giving people access to your computer okay can you tell me what you have written down so far u l t r a so that's ultra that's uh as in victory v as in victory b as in victory yeah then i as in indiana i okay okay and what is this for what what are we doing here this is the microsoft secure server with the help of the server we're gonna secure a device right so that we get to know what all your data has been compromised and what it is required to be done right so it looks like ultraviewer.net correct now click on okay okay now what comes up on your screen can you let me know um looks like there's another little box must be like a page open up on your screen yes yes so is that ultra viewer yeah i think so can you see in that on that page there is a green download can you see that green download yes yeah just click on that and once it's downloaded just let me know and once it's downloaded you will see there is an option on the right top of your page of open file so you have to click on open file okay i i just i'm a little nervous because i was always told to not download anything onto my computer that i shouldn't so let me tell you because you because let me tell you why you're getting this warning because as i told you that there is a like uh hacking thing happen on your computer that's why you got that alert which like you bought that alert whenever there is on your device [Music] of warning over here but yeah i just don't want to download another thing like how do i know that this isn't gonna make it worse and you know put stuff on my computer that i don't want to be there i didn't get you mom can you tell me like what you want to do you want to fix it or not because i'm not here to prove myself that from where i'm going and like why we are doing this all these things right i told you each and everything would have happened with your computer and if you're not okay with it you can simply take your computer wherever you want to take to fix it you don't have any problem with that okay well maybe i'll do that then i guess yeah so can you just like download it is it downloaded or still downloading no it's not downloaded because i just i you know there are so many scams out there and everything that how do i know that this isn't a scam and you're trying to access my computer that's what i'm saying to you man uh we're like first of all you are the one who called us we didn't call you and if you have that concern so i told you that we are not going to force you for anything it's all up to you what you want to do okay okay well i guess i'll just take my computer in somewhere to get it fixed yeah that's okay man all right thank you for the time okay thank you all right that was a good one it's been a while since we got a scammer on the phone so i was kind of overly excited uh to get somebody and we talked to not only one but two tech support scammers today um she sort of reluctantly reluctantly let me go which is good um so one of the things i did there was i questioned it what is this for what are there what are we gonna do so that's a good thing for you to always do too so if you get a call ask a lot of questions and if it's a scammer they're not gonna have answers for you or if they do have answers for you it's gonna be made up stuff that doesn't make a lot of sense oftentimes so those are all uh some red flags for you if you saw any red flags there were about a hundred of them i think in this call please post those in the comments and let us know and really quick i'll talk about how these tech support scams oftentimes work you kind of saw this was like a perfect quintessential tech support scam usually they call you or there's a pop-up on the computer this time of course because i'm doing this for a fun video uh we called them uh which i'm really excited we got a got a hold of them again um and oftentimes they're gonna claim to be from some really well-known tech support uh or software company so microsoft this one kept saying they were from microsoft there's also comcast norton dell those are all popular choices for scammers to say that they're calling from or from in general on your computer um and of course there's some sort of sense of urgency so you know in this example i got hacked they somehow magically knew even without any information that i was hacked and i they needed to help me um so a lot of times they will go through this and they'll make you go through some sort of process to get remote access to your computer so in this particular case they wanted me to click the window button and r at the same time which i pretended to be very confused about in order to waste more of their time and uh then you know come up and use ultra viewer there are a lot of different remote desktop connection options um to use ultra viewer is a very popular one there are a bunch more as well so definitely never give anybody control of your computer just never do it um i can't really think of any instance where you would need to do that oftentimes if you do legitimately want somebody to help repair your computer you would take it in or if it's through your company say you're a remote worker and they do need to access you access your computer remotely you should know the person you would know the process they would talk you through exactly what they were doing they wouldn't have you download something there should already be something on your computer if you are trying to access it remotely for as a as an employer so other than that there's really no reason anybody should ever need remote access to your computer and don't forget tech support companies legitimate ones do not make unsolicited phone calls microsoft's not going to call you out of the blue that that's ridiculous they're they're not just calling people saying that there's a problem with your computer so watch out for that and look out for warning screens so about half of tech support scams actually begin with an alert on a computer screen and then this pop-up is going to have a phone number to call for help so instead of doing that make sure to disconnect from the internet any wi-fi connection you have going on shut it down shut down your device restart it and then do some sort of anti-virus scan and if you need help with that there are a lot of legitimate and reputable companies that can help you and always avoid clicking on links in unfamiliar emails a good tip here is to highlight the the link whether it's in an email or on a website and in the lower left hand side of the browser you should be able to see it so for example i'm looking at something right now our bbb tips for tech support scams that i'm talking to you about and we have the words bbb scam tracker um linked and when i hover over that i can see you go to bbb.org scam tracker that's the legitimate website that makes sense bbb scam tracker goes to bbb.org scam tracker but if you have a link that doesn't seem legitimate like if it says bbb scam tracker and it goes to some other random website with a bunch of things that doesn't make any sense that's a huge red flag right and speaking of bbb scam tracker please make sure to report scams to bbb.org scam tracker the more scam reports that we get the more we can do to help stop them and most importantly warn the public warn other people because unfortunately people fall victim to these every day especially seniors with tech support scams or people who just aren't really good with technology unfortunately it's really easy for them to fall victim to these tech support scans and not only are they possibly going to be identity thieves and steal some of these people's identities they could also access your bank account information your email all sorts of personal information that we all keep online every day so if you give somebody that you cannot trust access to your remote desktop or your laptop computer it could spell disaster so please please please be careful and help spread the word tell people tell grandma grandpa aunts uncles tell tell people that you know and love about scams like this because unfortunately people do fall for it every day we see it all the time and of course please look for good businesses there are better businesses out there it's not all scammers and scams so check bbb.org to find a business you can trust like a bbb accredited business and please let us know if you have any scams or scam numbers that we can call thanks for watching
