so many cars get ridiculed by the media before they even have their day in court so today we're going to go through a few cars that were pronounced Dead on Arrival and see if the so-called experts were right or if these cars deserve their moment in the bright Sun welcome to Donut first up we've got the 996 generation Porsche 911 what do you know about the 996 from the movie Cars yeah yeah yeah the one with the uh lower back tattoo the 996 is the fifth generation 911 it came out in 1997 and it was in production until 2006 at the time of its release it held the record for the fastest 911 model obviously it was the newest one and it was going 189 mph but the big thing about this that I know a lot of people didn't like is this was the first 911 that came with a water cooled engine everything before this was air cooled which is kind of the whole point right so with that a lot of Hardcore members of the press were not excited about this new generation 996 the 996 sold really really well because the people riding about the cars are not the people buying the cars but this one looks pretty sexy I mean this one slammed on some nice three-piece Wheels it looks beautiful a lot of people don't like about this car is the headlights it is a very interesting shape they want the new modern one single Bubba light but it still has like Spiral Wheels you know it still has that rear engine they didn't change that the frunk it still looks very Porsche as the frun I like that I like that journalists absolutely hated the way it looked and were particularly hard on the simple interior which motor Tren called not what's expected of a $75,000 car but look we were in the plastic age you know everything was plastic and trying to be sort of eco-friendly and cheaper it was a product of its time this is a sexy ass car by all means just the headlights but everything else is clean the interior looks nice the body yes is like you said it's kind of like Roundy but it's beautiful I mean I'm looking at it as not as a stock car I'm looking at it as a car I could build right so what would you say sandre is this journal just having a bad day and writing a bunch of fake news or is this too true fake news all the way sorry bro all right let's go to the next car all right next up we have the F10 generation BMW M5 which debuted in 2011 and was in production until 2016 it was a beautiful car it just gave a lot of lot of problems well journalists won't know about that cuz they only drive things for a couple hundred miles okay so they're writing it like brand new I thought it was sexy yeah another one like I think the face the interior of it it's big spacious I like the wheel fitment I like how it looks a nice car dude I don't I don't know what bad could they said about this okay let's find out df10 had a lot going on for it when it came out it was the very first M5 with a twin turbo V8 you can get it with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual which is pretty sick but it also had a lot to live up to because it debuted in the shadow of the E60 which had a massive 500 horsepower V10 the F10 got Flack from its Critics on auto week who said even though the f10s twin turber V8 system was clearly more user friendly it lacked the character of the previous model some journalists went even further as to say that the F10 was compensating by having fake sound pumped in with an exhaust function that would exaggerate the sound of the car which a lot of cars do these days what do you think do you agree with them I twin turbo V8 sounds it sounds badass way better than a V1 to be Hest yeah don't get me wrong like probably Parts wise they're looking at it what's coming out they're not looking at a long term I'm looking at it long term I'm thinking that be8 is actually pretty badass the other thing is is the manual trans was only available in the United States hell am so they were looking out for us you have the nerve to complain you guys are man no what we never get cool things I'm not a huge BW guy I know people love those v10s though but that's not really a lot of negatives really it's like oh okay yeah it pumps sound into the car well everyone's doing that but to compare it to the V10 one is the V10 is more of a gimmick than the twin toober V8 cuz that twin toober V8 is going to be driven every day still a V8 twin turbo right wow that's not enough to complain about to be honest that's why I'm thinking this is some fake ass news yeah let's go to the next car today's WD40 sponsorship was filmed in front enthusiasts everywhere when it first came out we are of course talking about the mark 5 Toyota Supra so this was the return of the legendary Toyota Supra after a really long Hiatus it had a huge reputation to live up to and it was met with some harsh criticisms JD nerds everywhere and journalists complain that the new super was just a rebadged BMW Z4 why go through all the trouble to try and follow up the legendary markv Supra if you're not going to keep everything in house some journalists like the guys over at Top Gear said it may as well have been a BMW as it smelled looked and felt like one on the inside did it taste like one uh plus when the car came out it didn't have a manual transmission which I think was the main problem and this made all the car nerds really mad I'm sure most people would say the same thing at first it was like ah you felt it you felt it but I mean you know what as it proved itself it's pretty tight don't get me wrong they're going to be like oh well it's a BMW just with the super wannabe body or whatever but it's honestly good combination I like it everyone that I know that has had one of these loves it it sounds great BMW is no slouch you know I know a lot of Americans hate BMW engines but like look what every Enthusiast is driving right now BMWs whether it's got the original motor in it or not they did throughout the '90s make some of the best Straight sixes out there and they're still running to this day Japanese cars are made for you to maintain as little as possible Right German cars it's going to pay out as long as you maintain it American cars don't care I still like it you can't hate something that you haven't tried out now let's look at the facts you're getting a BMW quality vehicle for less than a BMW it also comes with the hard top and then you eventually got the manual and then on top of it all Toyota saving money saves you money the straight six is a combination of something like the e46s uh was it s54 straight 6 and the 2J combined into one they hold power they do really good stuff like what are you complaining about you got two badass companies trying to build something badass right and because of this straight great Sixers are coming back what do you say fake news or too true I think it's fake news straight up like these guys are just mad at they're just mad you know what there like a popularity contest if everybody's saying like oh this car is cool this car is cool but this guy says it's whack yeah then they think it's whack let's see the next car next up on our list of possibly misrepresented cars is the Lotus ivora GT it's small it is small but it was actually bigger than the regular the Lotus Elise I've only seen the small ones oh okay and it doesn't look like I fit in there you probably fit in there maybe I'm tall so I don't know and I'm wide so I don't know it looks cool it is a good-looking car it's definitely sleeker and less goofy than the L Le and ex and whatnot but I don't think they were a slouch though I'm pretty sure everyone that had one of these enjoyed them they still use like Toyota Motors and whatnot I got to fall in love with it looking at it more cuz honestly it looks okay oh the back looks good back looks really cool the back is very superar esque yeah Lambo a little bit no no Ferrari little little baby one yeah yeah baby Ferrari they're very like track kind of hot car oriented like you you're meant like all these super cars had a little baby it's supposed to be a little toy yeah yeah it looks cool it's a cool looking car I wouldn't buy one not really my cup of tea but I probably wouldn't buy one cuz I can't afford it but I mean overall like it looks pretty cool like I wouldn't mind driving it to the groceries we all know lotus's philosophy simplify and add lightness right the Ivor GT followed that exact same principal it's a lightweight mid- ining sports car with very few amenities it's a car designed to be hucked around in the canyons and to be fair critics did praise it for that exactly reviewers said nice things about it steering and control as well as its supercharged Toyota Source V6 engine but where reviewers went sour was the interior car and driver said the Alpine audio unit looks like it was pulled off the shelf at an electronic store remember circus and squeezing into the ivor's rear compartment is like jamming yourself into a child's seat oh there's a back seat there's a back Seine in there what when compared to his direct competitor the Porsche Cayman GT4 car magazine said it would rather have the Porsche due to its elevated refinement and luxury feel everybody wants a Porsche right cuz I want a Porsche I mean you can drive a Porsche every single day you know this is a track toy for nearly $100,000 it's clear that reviewers felt just needed a bit more which I kind of agree with yeah but something unique so what do you think fake news to True get nothing to fake [Music] meal all right Sandro this next car is a little bit spicier than what we've seen so far the Ferrari F50 you know F50 is practically a street race car is I'm sorry to say but what are you going to say about this I want to see what they say about this car cuz this car is sexy they couldn't possibly complain the corner right the idea of the F50 was essentially to be an F1 car for the road it was Ferrari's Flagship V12 superar this wasn't a new idea McLaren had already done it with their F1 being the world's fastest car for like 9 years and Aston Martin did it with the Vantage and it was Ferrari's followup to the F40 an absolutely legendary car that you all should already now what could possibly be the problem well believe it or not the negative critique came from the man himself Jeremy Clarkson besides calling it ugly he felt the car made too many compromises Ferrari had to tone down the performance of the V12 to make it street legal and this car didn't carry any real superlatives he complained that the ason Martin Vantage was more powerful the McLaren F1 was faster and the power to wait wasn't even as good as the F40 you know my God only a person that has driven in F40 yeah could complain about the F50 I've been next to them I've seen them they look beautiful I don't know they're great I never dropped have you have you driven any of them I haven't driven they wouldn't let me our insurance couldn't cover this this is literally privilege oh my God complaining through privilege Clarkson's a man right like he's driven everything he's controversial and they let him get away of things let's talk about what's actually good about this car it's a V12 mid-engine Ferrari that weighs less than 3,000 lb is made with miles of carbon fiber and could definitely scare the out of whoever's driving it it's funky looking but funky looking cars from the 9s are way cooler now than they used to be sure it was pretty far from the actual F1 car of the era it was the closest thing to a road car that Ferrari could possibly make who cares if they made compromises you guys are pissing him off okay journalists will just crap on something oh because when they went to the Press event they didn't smooze him enough or whatever he probably didn't get to drive it that's why he is talking bro like you can't hate on something that's like beyond my reach look man like that's badass I see that I feel like I'm down to get in that plane and drive around too you know like it's tight so what do you think Sandro fake news or too true take new out the way let's just see the next Journal this [Music] car all right the next car is a little bit more of a Burly American Muscle Boy called the Pontiac GTO produced in 2004 to 2006 rest in peace Pontiac Gone Too Soon this was my desktop photo this car actually made it into the drift scene you guys are tripping out if you guys are even talking about this car this is where people get the swaps out of this is like the baby stick shift automatic don't get me wrong automatic obviously like not as fun but stick shift super fun badass noise that comes out of it it looks bad on rims it looks the whole front end looks mean as it's coming at you you're like oh what is that like you remember the trans Firebird you had the the like the pig snorkel on the hood and the the Dual kidney Grill almost look I seen put the the Firebird in front of it really yeah like it's a really good looking car they just kind of rounded it off a little bit more interior clean it's Fat Boy friendly I fit in there when I was a heavier size and gu that was a heavier size definitely you can make noise burnout machine dope I mean it was a true American sports car you got to read me what theyve said about this car that was what could they possibly complain about right this fifth generation GTO was a Revival of pontiac's famous muscle car the GTO had been dead for decades up until this point and there was a lot of hype riding on the gto's name how dare they bring it back especially with the Mustang at the time and everything the Revival was pitched by GM's chairman Bob Lutz and he wanted to bring back the concept of a V8 rear whe drive manual Coupe and instead of building one from the ground up GM decided to just repurpose the Holden Monero from Australia and rebadge it as a GTO but that's where things started to get a little bit tricky there was a lot of red tape between GM of North America and the Australian branch and it took a lot longer than expected to get the GTO ready for the American Market by the time it came out in 2003 the look was already pretty dated look Car and Driver said it looked like a phone company Fleet car it was regarded as hastily thrown together and being too ugly to deserve the legendary GTO badge it was a sales flop and was discontinued just 2 years after its release GM isn't known for making original things when they want them they just kind of recycle stuff so I can see where they're complaining how it look like it looks like a Malibu with a facelift and two doors but at that time other than the Camaro and the Mustang what were we getting this was like a transition into the import style because a lot of guys like like Japanese cars we're buying these because of the ls swap it was like super fun yeah you buy your LS swap instead of do the ls swap funny joke on the the the phone company but overall it was pretty amazing car I I don't see anything wrong with it it kind of have that Mustang Cobra front end look it looked mean coming down are these journalists insane telling us fake news complaining about how a car looks or they telling the truth we're getting fake I want to see some real I want somebody to tell me the truth tell us something that's real let's see the next car next we're talking about a car brand that is near and dear to my heart Subaru specifically the current generation WRX also known as the VB the WRX brand means a lot to us here at Dona even if we've had our issues in the past we do actually love those cars but these new modern W X's really don't have the same reputation as the older ones uh yeah I hate these performance wise I didn't get to drive it but we raced around the track with Jeremiah in one and surprisingly it handles fine like it it does drive and feel like a Subaru but you're not getting that same premium feel that you get from most subus these days they're double Downing on the plastic cladding I don't know why to me it looks like a little Camry it looks like they saw the Civic Type R it was just like copy I mean it's not like the sexiest car on this list it looks okay to me I'm not a big super fan like you but uh overall like if it's doing good performance I can see it has like a big brake kit comes with nice Wheels let's look at one that's modified it still doesn't look good M it looks pretty good it looks pretty good I want to talk about it but I like it okay we might we might be split on this one compared to the simple older wxs that we all know and love this new one is bigger and a little bit more bloated it's also covered in a bunch of plastic cladding it seems like the journalists are complaining about the same thing no one's talking about the performance of it I believe cuz everyone's just like oh yeah it's it's a WX you know it's not super amazing powered I think more people wanted more power out of it but I think subar understands like at the end of the day it's a sporty economy car like we're not going to dump a bunch of power into it it does still have a turbo it does have a manual but you can't buy the nicer trim version with a manual it gets a CVT I think it looks good do you think it looks good I don't think it looks good it hasn't grown on me yet which is you're telling me that you agre with what they say is it fake news to you or are you saying it's too true do you think it's ugly to me to me it's still fake news all right let's go to the next car the next car on this list is a weird modern 4x4 that recently debuted called the inos Grenadier and if you haven't heard of this you're not alone inos is basically a chemical company they make things like ammonia chlorine and pretty much everything else they made the Grenadier specifically as a retro throwback inspired by the old Land Rover Defender a lot of people don't like the new Defender they don't like what Land Rover did with it and then they also retired the old Defender look with the new one to me it looks like a baby wannabe G wagon like a G wagon well you know the G wagon the defender all those stuff are kind of inspired off of each other like War wartime Vehicles it's like a Baby G wagon pricewise I don't know what it is so these start around $73,000 okay so not G Wagon price so that's this is this is Jeep rub Rubicon price interior wise I I don't know it's gotten a lot of flack for lacking onroad refinement and having awful steering and being too basic but that's what the Land Rover Defender is that shouldn't really be a problem for a purpose-built off-roader this thing is off-road first then street but these SUVs are also not that cheap either but Land Rovers weren't either so what are you complaining about right as Car and Driver put it we OB to the idea of a $70,000 SUV without standard heated seats and that price only goes up depending on which trim level you decide to get what do you think sandre I'm going say fake news like always don't believe everything they say you need to go try it for yourself yeah go go try it out yourself so far things aren't going well for the journalist here but we do have one more car and thank you for bringing it cuz it's [Music] outside and that brings us to our final car of the day this bad boy right here the original BMW 8 series also known as the E31 beautiful cars of course he loves them he owns one this is his 840 the 8 series was a flagship Grand Tour released by BMW in the early '90s at the time it was the most high-tech and advanced cars ever made it had Electronic Drive by wire throttle bodies pillarless Windows which is probably one of the sickest things ever nice Supple leather interior and of course pop up and down headlights but the most impressive feature was the 5 L V12 under the hood of the 850 this was the first road car to come with a six-speed manual V12 it all cost $90,000 in the year 1990 which is like $200,000 today so expectations were really freaking high but journalists didn't agree that it was as good as it claimed to be again again again they were torn as they always are because they treat riding about cars like it's an art form for some reason they can't hate on something that you got to look at that body line the wideness the stands the motor the interior just the the side view of the windows it's like beautiful it's it's clean it's you got a low nose you got a low roof you got really Sleek lines you got a nice widebody like subtle Fender style what could you hate they even like made the BMW kidney less of a feature you know it looks amazing it's not those giant ass ones right now right are Hog nose yeah all this Tech packed into a pillarless V12 meant it weighed over 4,000 lb and one major complaint was that it lacked solid handling Dynamics at the time all BMWs were small and Nimble with the 8 series reviewers said It felt bulky it had me steering and they even said the V12 was too smooth smooth what it is pretty smooth It's a grand tour it's supposed to be smooth but 30 years later is it really as bad as they said what do you think Sandro you own the V8 one so that's the 840 right have you driven many of the v12s no no I haven't I haven't driven any of them they're smooth yes you don't feel when you're jamming out on them but then you don't feel when you're jamming out on an S-Class right so you don't feel it but it's not supposed to punch you in the face you're supposed to get to 200 mph smooth and nice and comfortable painful yeah when you roll down the window you're like ah there there it is there but if not you're chilling you're like banging out 200 mph and nobody even knows not even the cops all right so the problem with car reviews is they like to do sloom tests and high speed tests and all that stuff this is a grand tour it's supposed to be comfortable so when they complain about a soft steering that you can't really feel look at cars today they all have electric power steering which is soulless so I mean would you want to be mushy and comfortable in an amazing beautiful car like this or do you want to drive a Corolla that it feels like a computer and is super numb I don't know man I'll put it like this 30 years later and she's still on the road so would you say this was fake news or would you say it was too true fake news on the shark face beautiful car I have to agree thank you guys so much for watching I hope you enjoyed this freaking video as much as we did making it Sandro thank you so much for coming out make sure you check him out at Miranda shop check out all our other videos here on donut media and check out all our social medias y'all have a good one
