JIGSAW (2017) Ending + Twists Explained

[Applause] what's up guys welcome to found flicks on this edition of ending explained who will be looking at the recently released eight entry in the Saw franchise jigsaw the series is known for its twists and turns usually ending with a huge reveal of who is behind the killings and jigsaw follows suit with the series formula ultimately the ending is pretty confusing so let's explain the big twist and ending for jigsaw and for anyone wondering if this entry gives us any further developments on the story left behind in saw seven it really doesn't there's no mention of Gordon or Hoffman at all but this is probably for the best and allows the movie to not be trapped down by the series huge previous story jigsaw takes place ten years after the death of John Kramer the original jigsaw who died and saw three even though he is known to be dead a rash of new brutal killings occur in the city that fit Kramer's MO and it appears that the infamous jigsaw killer has somehow returned much of the movie is presented as a whodunit with at least half of the runtime showing us two detectives led by Halloran opening the jigsaw investigation that had been dormant for years to figure out who is behind the new killings our very first scene turns out to be very important introducing us to Halloran in pursuit of Edgar a druggy turned informant who is now right in the middle of his own game the cops corner him on a roof where he has a trigger and Halloran directs the officers to shoot his hand if he activates the trigger and not go for a fatal shot Edgar says he has to push the trigger to start the new game and does so resulting in his hand getting blown off but somehow one rogue bullet gets Edgar in the chest gravely injuring him and we find out the reasoning behind all this later but for now after the trigger is pressed we see that a new game has begun five people find themselves in an industrial room with chains around their necks and buckets on their heads and on the other side is a wall loaded with rotating socks then a gravelly voice informs them that he requires them to give up some of their blood any amount will do the chains pulled him towards the saws and certain doom but Ana figures out first that he said any amount of blood cutting herself lightly on the saw and her bucket comes loose winning the first test the others follow her example with varying degrees of success except for the last man who had still been passed out when the game started as the others make it out it doesn't look like he's as lucky being pulled into the wall of saws after this back outside the bucket head body is found dangling from a bridge by a noose and Halloran takes the body seeking help of coroner team Logan and Eleanor and based on their findings everything about the body fits the pattern of jigsaw continuing to fuel the idea that Kramer is alive but essentially everyone we see is presented as a suspect at some point or another and not very subtly either like we find out that Eleanor is a frequent visitor to a jigsaw fan web site and even has a studio where she makes replicas of jigsaws many famous traps and you go oh well obviously she's the killer right nope it's just the most ridiculous red herring imaginable one of the traps the blender she has we learned is from an original game led by John Kramer even before the first saw and none of the bodies were ever recovered back in the game the remaining players next find themselves in a large farmhouse or barn which is a strange setting compared to what we're used to with the grimy warehouses the series largely is set in so that's why to me jigsaw kind of feels like saw country edition it's just kind of funny and they do mention later the farm is owned by Jill tuck Kramer's ex-wife and that it is still in her family then our old buddy Billie rolls in on his tricycle and just look at them shoes glitter looking fresh Billy bar he's here to present their next test which is designed for Karla just as is typically the case in the series all these people have done some atrocity in their past with jigsaw and picking them for the game wanting them to repent for their sins we find out that Karla out of desperation used to steal purses and one time led to a woman dying as Karla had stolen her medicine she returned back to see the woman in pain but she decided to flee instead and the whole thing only netted her a measly $3.00 in some change certainly not worth it we learned previously she had been injected with a poison and is now presented with three needles one of which has the and another which has hydrofluoric acid which will kill her the timer start and the chains around everyone's neck starts to pull them towards the ceiling Ryan desperately tries to get Carla to inject the needles but she's way too freaked out so as they get ever closer to the top he jams all three needles into her freeing them from their chains but of course one of those needles has the acid in it and Carla is melted away using the same acid which we saw kill William and saw six fun acid fact next to be tested his Mitch who we learned was chosen by jigsaw for a personal reason Mitch sold Kramer's net to you a bike which Mitch said to be in good working order but soon after his nephew drove it off in malfunction crashing and killing his nephew he gets to face the coolest rap in the film the blender and jigsaw even used parts of that crashed bike to make up the traps construction Mitch has to reach down through the rotating death blades to turn the throttle off and is given momentary help from Anna who jams a pole into the bike above stopping the blades but eventually it gets loose starting the blades back up and pureeing Mitch now down to the final two Anna nearly makes it outside but is caught by a person in a pig mask and the to wake up chained in another room and in the room with him is John Kramer himself he's here to give them their final test placing a shotgun in the room and telling them they've been doing everything backwards in their lives and as he puts the bullet into the shotgun says here is the key to your salvation we don't really ever find out the full depth of what Ryan did other than him saying he's a generally not good person but Anna is a whole other kind of awful throughout the movie she claims that her husband rolled over onto their child killing it and never admits Fault herself but we learned that Kramer was her neighbor and that she actually killed the baby because it was constantly crying and then put the baby on the bed for her husband to roll over onto getting him sent to jail for it and he eventually killed himself over his guilt geez lady you're a monster after Kramer leaves the two alone Anna start to consider what his words meant and determines that she is supposed to kill Ryan because he is a bad person and should be judged for this she retrieves the shotgun and fires but the bullet goes back at her jamming into her eye and Ryan realizes what Kramer meant by saying they were doing it backwards that the gun would backfire on whoever shot it and inside of the shell discovers broken keys and as Kramer said earlier the shell contained their literal keys to salvation the keys were in the shell but now the keys are broken and Ryan has no chance at escape or survival but isn't Kramer dead what's going on here well strap in for the twists my friend it turns out the game we've been watching throughout the movie actually occurred in the past and is the aforementioned original game led by John before saw one that's why John is seen alive here this whole plot takes place in the past while the police investigation is occurring now 10 years after Kramer's death and the bodies that have been recovered by Halloran were from another game going on now that is an exact recreation of that original one led by the new jigsaw so for example the bucket head body in the park isn't the one from the original game we've been seeing but from a new different game taking place in the present because the bodies were never recovered from the original game and once Halloran and Logan make it to the farmhouse location they indeed discover that the original bodies are still there all these years later rotting away after both wind up trapped in laser collars it appears that Logan is killed but not so fast his lasers were fake and he reveals himself to Halloran as the new dig saw if you're like who the hell is Logan he's just some guy really but they do try to tie in his story to the series in a substantial way it turns out that he was a victim of the first game at the farm and was the one in the bucket head who appeared to be killed by the wall of saws he was put in the game by Kramer because during the early days of his cancer at the hospital Logan accidentally put the wrong name on Kramer's x-ray mixing up Kramer's and another man's and it was due to this error that it wasn't until later that Kramer's cancer was discovered if it had been detected earlier he might have had a better chance at survival does Lee Logan was chosen to be tested for his mistake but at the moment he hit the wall of saws Kramer came and rescued him not wanting him to die over what was essentially an accident after this Logan was recruited as yet another longtime secret Protege of John's even helping him to develop the reverse bear trap from the first film so again Logan has been part of jigsaws team since even before saw one before Amanda Hoffman Gordon all of them and we've never heard about him before this is kind of ridiculous to consider but okay sure fine another longtime secret Protege to think about it in the context of the grander story it makes sense that Logan left working with jigsaw and at some point returned to his normal life as it seems there was a specific incident that triggered him to return to killing the death of his wife a few years ago and we find out that Halloran is in a way directly responsible for Logan's wife's death and Logan's game this time it seems was designed to trap Halloran and frame him for the new murders naturally Halloran is a corrupt cop and the man Edgar who was Halloran's informant was allowed to walk free because of Halloran needing him and it was Edgar who killed Logan's wife so that's why he is now seeking revenge on Halloran he allowed Edgar to be freed because of his needs leading to his wife's death and Logan already put Edgar into a game as seen at the beginning of the film and it was Logan who fired that shot into Edgar's chest using the same bullets as Halloran's gun to cause further doubt about his character so Halloran is chopped up by the laser collar and with Eleanor's alibi we'll be able to get away with everything and continue his games there you go folks enough twists for you so Logan is the new jigsaw who was a longtime associate of John's and now will be taking up the mantle going forward I think it would have been more interesting to make the killer Jeff's daughter who survived and saw five and lost both of her parents it feels like there's something more they could do or their character who would no doubt be scarred by her experiences as a child oh well maybe in jigsaw too there you go guys all the twist and inning explain for jigsaw what did you guys think of the movie and Logan being the new killer let
