oh it's my favorite yes that's it that right there oh my god this is the copper Oh wonderful hi Steven I am it's so nice to see you it's really great to be here we're talking about Jen Aniston yes your star star star client so lightning struck twice because you have worked with Jen Aniston two times on two fabulous houses yeah the first house in LA it was in ad in 2010 yes so how many years did you work on that house with her about two years two years of work and she lived in it for she's been for a number of years after and then decided to move it's about the time that she and Justin got together okay and I think it was just like let's try to look for something together together yeah and then they chose this house as a couple yeah it has a lot of similarities to her old house well Hal Levitt and a Quincy Jones were sort of different types of architects but I think that the the inside is you say was something that Jen brought to it and I think that she loved that the first house so much yes she was conflicted about selling it but wanted to move on in her life yeah she sold it with most of the furniture intact the person who purchased it wanted everything that she would leave her said I want you asset yes he said I want everything here and she was very selective about what she really meant something to her and that she wanted to keep so she was ready to turn the page new home new life place with Justin you know it's bigger you know in a way than what she had before okay but she kept referring back to the experience of what we had done on the first house there were elements in that house that she really wanted to reproduce or at least reference which kind of elements you know she kept her bedside lamps you know they were always attributed to James month that we think that they were actually a low burn piece really obscure the house has a really cool kind of an Asian feel Japanese and certainly that vibe was in the old house - I think this house is a little more eclectic and in terms of the approach to everything when you bring these two sort of disparate backgrounds together and then you're forming this Union it's a lot of give and take on both sides I think in terms of style and how you do is yeah she said she realized working on this house him and with you that he had to have his input you know should have his input and that just saying no was not a collaborative house Justin came in with a much more of a New York sort of Sensibility I mean it's black yeah yeah how fits a lot of black the bikes are black yeah do you want a black house no but it was interesting to watch the dynamic between the two of them as we sort of embarked on this she loves that sort of calm you know sensibility like Zen yeah Zen was one of the first word she used when we were talking about the first house should we talk about some of the pictures sure where do you call the living room a great room living room living room I can't say great room it's okay it's a living room it's living with the bar yeah we were bringing art you know the mother from the previous house which is gorgeous it's an amazing piece we bought that at auction she flew into New York we didn't go out into the house as it was being sold but we stayed backstage she wanted to be very discreet about it yeah but it was interesting to watch her as the price kept going up and she kept bidding and finally she was so she wanted it when she got it yes she wanted it yeah she and Justin had invested in more modern pieces since as well sister really enjoyed that too it's a real interesting kind of man Walsh apart well that mother was a great piece so there's a lot of cozy shaggy pillows and rich fabrics she always has loved a sort of limited palette she really beers toward not too much color but you know a very sort of subtle variation on on a simple simple palette so it's cream it's charcoal yeah shades of brown and it's interesting dark woods loves dark wood yes dark wood and certain kinds of stones and marbles yeah travertine was the stone in the old house we were using every version we could find but we stuck to that one stone the one stone and again you know it's it's similar here she loves the repetition of a material that she likes tell us about some of the collectible pieces in this room we talked about the art and the furniture but this is a surface art Trapani table beautiful and you know just you know the Tiffany lamp she's had forever she had that long before I met her as well as the Chagall the the little brass lamp behind the sofa is something that we had purchased but had from the old house the Roy air is a significant investment and an important piece she wants to have that kind of level of design and invest in it and live with it I think whatever speaks to her in terms of comfort is sort of the first thing it's not necessarily that design you know for her it's if it if it suits her level of comfort and then the carpet it's a carpet that we you know we designed and and did for the room yes beautiful very subtle beautiful of course you've got dogs all over it oh yeah let's talk about the dogs dolly is the dog that's been around the longest okay she's in great shape good Bethan there Sadie and quiet - new additions to the families Steven tell me about this double platform I feel like this was in the old house it wasn't version it was not it was a version of this we had a sort of semi platform bed that was a wood platform I just love the idea of that kind of raised platform so there's a subtle little light so that you don't trip yes right it just sort of gave it a sort of place to land in the room yeah but if it was big I'm saying it's bigger than I thought it should be yes so you had to find ways to make it cozy yeah which is what yeah and the coziness back right and the lamps you had mentioned came also from her old the less we found for the old house and you know she slept next to those lamps for years and she kept them when she tell me about the the little bean bags I suggested those even at the old house because the dogs have to have a place they were sort of meant for people as well I kind of did this bean bag when I was like living in Laurel Canyon when I was really young before I came to New York and I thought instead of doing the traditional bean bag I would just do this big disc and then turn it around okay and so that's kind of what these are but it's a fake fur and the dogs love it so we've made several versions of these they're great let's talk about the kitchen because I think it's it's fantastic that's the pizza that's the pizza oven we had to really add on to the house in order to accommodate the surround the stone surround that you need for for these pizza ovens but they're the real the real deal is this kitchen in proximity to the living room that we were looking at it's between there's a dining room between and then the living room and are these B ddw no no these are Bachman Cruz Blackman Cruz there is so heavy are they you can't these are so heavy you can't lift them you can't move you can't drag them across the freeway yeah you can I mean we have little felt pads on them but they're really difficult to move around but they're there they're awesome there's a good-looking very good-looking Jen told ad that even though in earlier days she was always traveling for work to movie sense that now she'd rather just be home there's nowhere else she'd rather be yeah and this is where she wants to just stay yeah Stephen tell me what space we're looking at here it's Jen's office son's office and this beautiful death she called it a power desk yes it's from Jeff Chan it's a Don shoemaker from 1965 and we all were kind of blown away she and Justin and I were actually in this store when we found it together it's extraordinary it's a piece of sculpture and it really is it's cocobolo wood it's beautiful wood and again you said she's always drawn towards a warm rich wood and again with an old Tiffany lamp that she's had forever and ever you know she really hangs on to certain things and the club chairs just a French sort of deco yeah leather chairs another beautiful carpet warm and rich and then that Japanese feeling that we see a lot in the house is again reflected in the tapestry tapestry she has a great eye it's a beautiful piece all right tell me about this space it's a powder room it's a powder room yeah and it's a Gracie wallpaper wallcoverings okay and we designed a sort of stone partition and sink in there and designed the light fixtures which was sort of custom bronze right acid etched glass anything bronze Jen is just she's so happy you know she loves to warm the metal yeah I'm going to use lots of versions of it dark and bronze some sort of lighter bronze but that's her metal of choice I think that jen has a bathroom that anybody would come that's an one big glass panel that opens and you know it looks the same when the glass is closed but automatically it's a motorized Wow you know this is the front of the house and so we were able to create these two little fenced openings that gave a private garden off the dining room and on this side of the house a private garden which there's a shower out there so they can have an outdoor shower which is like people I'm sure be entering the house it's totally private marchello Delano and aunt attinger who are you know good friends and great landscape people we brought these massive stones in and planted the little pine tree it's a beautiful peaceful setting for your bathroom incredible here we have a view of I think the rear of the house the back of the house the pool you know had been there but we re oriented the pool so that it was parallel with the house I think in the old house the pool was sort of right off the bedroom here you have to make more of an effort to get down to it it's a beautiful little oasis it's all black granite the spa and cheek around it and law and around that and they entertain around their pool they entertain down there all the time do you think this is a forever house for her I know when I'm in a forever how I feel like I'm in a forever house right yourself myself but I think it's too seductive you know to sort of move on and someone like Jen and Justin who loved the process of doing this kind of work I think you know you're intrigued to do it again she told ad that if she weren't an actress she would want to be a designer well yeah yeah and she has a great eye and she enjoys the process and she's not the first person you know Diane Keaton yes yeah Diane has been that way forever yeah and she just gets better and better and better and and continues to do it maybe with you know with you outside yeah but I think maybe more unsettling than most people accountants because Diane is just she loves it so much she's right on to the next house yeah she wants to do another one yeah Jen somewhere in between she's attached I love with the places where I live and I I don't think I'll ever move I always think this is where I'll be carried out Wow it's a masterful house very cute congratulations I can't wait to see the next one Stephen yeah me too crossed
