desire and covetousness which is adultery on account of these the wrath of god is coming upon the sons of disobedience and these once walked when you lived in them but now put them all away anger wrath malice slander and foul talk from your mouth do not lie to one another seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator here there cannot be greek and jew circumcised and uncircumcised barbarian scythian slave free men but christ is all and in all peace [Music] [Music] wisdom let us stand and hear the holy gospel peace be with all [Applause] the reading is from the holy gospel according to saint luke let us be attentive [Music] at that time as jesus entered a village he was met by ten lepers who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said jesus master have mercy on us when he saw them he said to them go and show yourselves to the priests and as they went they were cleansed then one of them when he saw that he was healed turned back praising god with a loud voice and he fell and he fell on his face at jesus's feet giving him thanks now he was a samaritan then said jesus were not ten cleansed where are the nine was no one found to return and give praise to god except this foreigner and he said to him rise and go your way your faith has made you worm [Music] [Music] please be seated okay noah now you're gonna follow landon now and we're gonna go sit with him out in the pews okay let's go jesus healed the ten lepers today my friends a familiar story for a lot of us but an incredible story when you think about it um leprosy during the time of jesus was a hideous disease it infected a person it debilitated them and made them um lose fingers toes made the skin fall off and it was very contagious so they could not circulate lepers could not circulate in society when jesus was walking these lepers approached him and they knew who he was and they asked him have mercy on us and what he told them was go show yourselves to the priest because back in those days if you were by chance ever healed of leprosy you had to go show yourself to the priest of the temple so he could verify that you were healed and that you could then circulate in society again kind of like having a vaccine card so he told them go show yourselves to the priests and so they went and as they went it says in the bible they were healed now there were ten of these lepers and only one of them who was not even a jew turned back to give thanks to god and to jesus who healed him okay what i want to do today though is focus on the 10 on the 10 all together before the one guy turned back so these ten men were suffering from a hideous disease and they wanted help and they had heard of course of jesus somehow that he was able to do wonderful miracles and things and so they they went to him and and sought his help now these men were not priests or bishops or anything like that they were just ordinary people who needed help and were living a miserable life and had been inundated with this misery and and isolation for a long time and they as a last-ditch effort to kind of get some relief or something so they went to this jesus that they'd heard some things about and sure enough as and when he said you know go show yourselves to the priests and they started getting healed sure enough as they were walking they became healed now this is where it gets interesting you have a hideous disease maybe some of the fingers grew back who knows how healed but i'm sure they just they could tell right away that they've not only felt better but that they saw that their whole body was becoming whole again right away as they were walking to go show themselves to the priest these men were in the world before they were consumed with their own personal problem and then as their personal problem went away they were still in the world thinking about the things around them and who they were and what they were going to do and they just kept going they figured they figured wow wow look at this i'm healed i'm all better wow i lucked out boy what a lucky person i am how fortunate i am that i'm healed now now look what i can do i can go associate with my family i can go to work i can do all look at wow let's go their mind was completely set in the ways of the world even though this incredible thing had just happened to them didn't change their mind a bit as soon as they were healed wow let's keep going i'm so lucky just one man turned around to give thanks to god and to jesus just one now to me that tells us a lot of things we're talking 10 of the people turned around to acknowledge jesus as the healer and to thank him just ten percent ninety percent just kept going on their way get back to business go to work go see the family ninety percent and that situation is what faces us today in our world today let's look 90 of the people even some of the people that go to church think i got my life i'm so busy i got my responsibilities i got family i got work i got school i'm so busy so they focus on that 90 in our world today focus on those things i want to i want to kind of go over two things though with you first first of all you know um when i was in college when i was in even high school but i i sang in choirs a lot you probably know that and when you sing in the choirs in college and stuff like that you perform a lot of times with the orchestra and the band the symphony band and all that kind of stuff so i got to know some of these orchestra people and became friends with some of them but had a lot of exposure to orchestra music classical music let's put it that way and so i've i've started developing an appreciation for classical music back in those days and i still have it now look at music look at music what what it is music let's talk about classical music now let's not talk about rap or anything like that but at least classical music when you hear it you can't see it all you can do is hear it but somehow that we know that that music is real and sometimes if it's one a piece that's especially beautiful it transports you to somewhere else your mind just is set free by the beauty that's in the music it's an incredible thing it's invisible but it's still there and it's very real now god is invisible but he's very real too he's still there the only problem is a lot of people 90 percent of the people don't realize it they don't see it a lot of people don't like classical music does nothing to them they like rap music or other things classical music means nothing and that's the way it seems to me that that that people operate in this world when it comes to god they're able to focus only on whatever concerns them and not allow themselves to be lifted up into heaven and the second thing i want to say about that is is a very simple but important notice what happened when that one man turned around to give thanks to god and to thank jesus for the healing he turned around and he gave thanks now i i want to tell you that when a person thanks someone else or says look i really appreciate that thank you very much to another person guess what you can look right into their soul when they do that because only a soul that's pure and god-oriented will give thanks only a soul that is conscious of and aware of what god means in this world can recognize when something good happens to them and immediately give thanks becomes automatic it's a wonderful thing so when you hear somebody sincerely saying thank you you can tell and you can look into their soul and see exactly what's going on there that it's healthy and that it tries to cling to god and by the way one more thing that one more word or phrase that you can tell the same thing with if you ever hear anybody say i'm sorry i'm sorry the most amazing thing to me is that i've noticed over my life is how hard it is for somebody some people to say i'm sorry it won't come out of their mouth it just won't those things first of all saying thank you and saying i'm sorry has to start from a place of humility in your soul you need to have some type of humility inside before you can say i'm sorry and mean it and thank you and mean it you have to have some kind of humility if there's no humility inside of you those things are never going to come out of your mouth so 10 people didn't have that kind of humility they walked the nine people walked away and kept going the one man did have a soul that was alive and he that soul propelled him inspired him to turn around and go back to jesus and say hey thank you thank you kind of a simple miracle today about jesus encountering 10 very sick men and healing them but boy oh boy what we can learn from that healing and what we can learn from that one man who turned around to say thank you amen that's good please rise now and continue with us in the divine liturgy on page 12 in your liturgy books again we bow before you and pray to you o good and loving god hear our supplication cleanse our souls and bodies from every defilement of flesh and spirit and grant that we may stand before your holy altar without blame or condemnation grant also god progress in life faith and spiritual discernment to the faithful who pray with us so that they may always worship you with reverence stream that we do on sunday morning the average number of views is about 75 people watching online on sunday and i and because people have told me personally i know that we have people watching from los angeles from portland oregon from toronto canada chicago illinois from all different kinds of places so we welcome all of them to our live stream on the youtube and we're going to be continuing this for quite a while i believe because it is a good a good service to provide to our parishioners uh today the philotogos our ladies philopticos will be having its general meeting in the hall during coffee hour it's a great opportunity to hear the the wonderful things they're doing to help the poor so all all ladies are invited to attend and to listen to them even if you're not a member you can still attend and listen to see what they do it's a it's a wonderful organization that does a lot of good also our crab feed is coming up february 5th um we're going to only sell 200 tickets and we're already up to about 115 or 20. so um make sure you get your tickets before well before uh it's 55 a ticket but if you buy a table of 10 it's only 500 for the table okay so see richard boucher today if you'd like to get your tickets he'll be in the coffee hour as well we have little envelopes outside for you to use to send in your stewardship offerings and if you haven't sent in your pledge card yet go ahead and do that and become a member of saint catherine we'd love to have you let's see yeah our dance group let's see now when is that there our dance groups are going to be yeah here it is it's january 30th our dance groups we're going to be having a luncheon on january 30th that's a sunday and a preview performance of their um dances that they'll be performing at fdf in phoenix arizona this
