hi welcome to my channel I did a video before on easy to pronounce Irish names so I thought I would do a video on difficult to pronounce Irish names this video is going to be girl names and I'm going to be doing one in future on boy names so make sure you subscribe if you don't want to miss that video so Irish is notoriously difficult to pronounce and we have four different provinces and things tend to be pronounced differently in each province I'm from ler so and the way I am pronouncing these names is how I would pronounce them being from lster and but a lot of times you just don't know how a name is pronounced until the person tells you even for Irish people so these names are definitely on the more difficult range if you like this kind of thing please give this video a like subscribe for more and let's get started I'm going to put the name here and give you a few seconds to guess how it's pronounced before I tell you and if you want to do a react video with this as you try and guess them along with me I would love to see that so first up is this name and it means Flame or fire and it's pronounced AER Amer or e M Emer it comes from the old Irish word a which means fire and it's not that common in Ireland today and not a lot of people would be called Amer today but it's a very old traditional Irish name and there has been a saint Amer this is the next name and it means fair or Slender and it's pronounced key Lin kein or Quin Quin again depending on where in Ireland you are and this one is pretty common in Ireland today I know a few keelin including males but the male version is spelled differently um but uh yeah pretty common name in Ireland today and I love it a pretty name Keen next is this name and it means good spirit it's pronounced Shiva Shiva or shova shova it's been used in Ireland since the 8th century so a very old Irish name and still used today um she means peace and ma means good so good peace good spirit and a more modern way of spelling the name is to take off the it at the end so it's s i father o m h r a did I get that I'll put the spelling here in case I got that wrong next up is this name and it means beauty of women and it's pronounced Lee of V Leon or Leon Leon or lein Leen even in Ireland though um it's you might go how did you pronounce that name um an Irish actress gave birth a few years ago and named her daughter this and a lot of people were questioning how do you pronounce that what way so she had to come out and say it's pronounced leavon so um it's actually pretty popular at the moment with new babies being born in Ireland beautiful name leoon next up is this name and it means Fawn or young deer in Old Irish and there are a few different ways to pronounce it there is dness davet doess doess dness devis or dness down it down it is how I would pronounce it and they're all correct though depending on where in Ireland you are and um this is a very ancient name and still used in Ireland today down it next up is this name and it means blooming or fertility and um I think most people know this name the English variant of the name is pronounced the exact same way and a lot of people would know it from a certain Kardashian it's Chloe Chloe and um yeah this name is still common still used in Ireland today Chloe here is the next name and again I think this is a name that most people would know the English variant of also pronounced the exact same way it's Suzie SU Susie um commonly this name is spelled with a f over the youu a is an accent over a vow and it changes the way the name is pronounced traditionally it should be spelled with the F over you but these days um a lot of people just leave the father off you and still pronounce it the same way Suzie technically it should be pronounced differently without the father but these days it's Grand next up is this name and it's a little bit more rare or unique than the other names it means princess and it's pronounced Furla Furla this one was hugely come in the 8th century and then it kind of died out and then it came back and then di so it had a few revivals where it was popular and then not popular um and along the way it changed the spelling they dropped the BH off it so it was f o r l a i t h again if I got that spelling wrong I apologize um off the top of my head but I will put it here but um at the moment it is dormant uh I don't think there are any furas these days which is a Pity because it's such a beautiful name Furla the next name is this one another unique more rare name these days it means princess of abundance and it's pronounced till a la Tilla and this one was again a very old one it was the name of two Saints in the 8th and 9th century and over time the spelling was also simplified and I say simplified it's still difficult to pronounce but um it became a little bit easier and it was spelled as t u i l e l a i t h I think and people probably know the more modern variant of the name more um which is Tula um but yeah beautiful name Tila next up is this name and it means longed for child and there are a few different ways you can pronounce this name aine aene aine aine aen and there's probably more and all are correct depending on where in Ireland you are or how you choose to pronounce the name and this one is very common and very popular in Ireland today aene the next name is this one and it means shining and bright and it's pronounced Gail is gaay and this has been the name of two Irish princesses in the past so another very old very traditional Irish name Gish this is the next name and it means wealth and it's pronounced sa like rhyming with five C and it can be spelled a few different ways it can be spelled s a i d h b h e or take off the E and it's s a d hbh and um this one is huge usually popular and common in Ireland today I know a lot of sces a beautiful name scy next up is this name and I feel like this is an easy one does everyone know how to pronounce this it means Star of the Sea and it's pronounced Mo ra Moira and same as it is hugely popular hugely common in Ireland today I think we all know a Moira this is the next name and it means brave as a bear or strong and it's pronounced burn burn or de Bernardine and the angelized version of this name is bernardet which was a hugely popular hugely common name in Ireland um these days it's not as common I think it's more kind of the older generation not a lot of babies are being called bernardet um and Bernardine is even more rare um still used today um it's not dead it's not dormant but just not as popular as it once was Bernardin next up is this name and it means Little Queen and is pronounced Rea ran and this one has ancient roots in Irish history there was a saint Ren back in the 5th Century and um an old Irish King called Nile of the nine hostages a lot of people might know him his um wife was called Rena so a very old Irish name and still used still popular in Ireland today Rihanna here is the next name and it means servant of St Bridget and these days is more common as a surname it's not really used as a first name anymore and it's pronounced Gil of Rea Gil OFA and um as I said it's more common as a surname now Mac Gila Mac means son of so Mac Gil is son of the servant of St Bridget and the angelized version of this name is McBride so Danny McBride Dany mcgil and um yeah as I said it's a very common surname but not as common as a first name anymore gilr this is the next name and it means beloved and is pronounced either Quay Vogue quogue or key Vogue K Vogue and um this one strong roots in Old Irish literature it featured in the children of Lear a story that we all learned in school and and but in that story it was a monk a male named quog so maybe back then it was more common as a male's name but these days is more common as a girl's name and still used in Ireland today quog next up is this name and it means daughter of the poet and it's pronounced either derval derval or darval darval and the way it is pronounced really depends on whether or not the f is is used the fod is over the 2 a so if there is a faod on the name it would be darval if there's no faod it would be derville but um people do kind of pick and choose fotas these days so technically that's the way it should be but it might not be that way for all the names out there and um this one is from the Middle Ages and a more popular variant of it today is derla spelled D a r b h l a derla deral next up is this one and it means she who intoxicates and it's pronounced mave and this one is a hugely popular hugely common name in Ireland today and um it could be spelled a few different ways and that way or there's m e a DH BH or m e f a BH or m a e v and that one M AE V is definitely the most common way of spelling in Ireland today ma the next name is this one another very common very popular name in Ireland today and it means gentle beautiful and precious and it can be pronounced either qua qua or k Kaa again depending on where in Ireland you are where I am it tends to be pronounced qua I know a bunch of quas the next name is this one and it means redhaired and it's pronounced Ru a knit ruin knit Rua um is used to refer to red hair so um another old name it's still used in arel day but a little bit more unique than the other names ruin it this is the next name and it means jealousy not a great meaning for a name but it can also represent like fiery spirit and it's pronounced a Deen aen and it comes from the old Irish name which is spelled e f t a i f n and pronounced a t 18 and 18 featured heavily in Old Irish mythology um she was the goddess of grace and beauty and aen is derived from that here is the next name and it means flame of wine and it's pronounced Losa ler and this one is more popular in the west of Ireland I don't know it at all where I am in lster so apologies if I'm butchering the name but uh ler means uh flame and IA means wine so uh ler flame of wine this is the next name and it means speckled one and it's pronounced again this one is also popular in the west of Ireland not popular where I am and there's a different dialect so the way it's pronounced in the west I'm probably going to butcher it it's I rick so it's not o and it's not I it's kind of a mix between oi and I like I I uh I apologize if I'm butchering the name IR but um yeah very popular in the westo island not popular at all where I am IR this is the next name and it means Noble princess and is pronounced Norah norla nor is um the old Irish word for Noble and flah means princess so Noble princess this one isn't as common as some of the other names it's a bit more rare and today in Ireland but a beautiful name norla and that's it that is my list of difficult to
