Interpretation of Daniel 11- Dr Norman McNulty

Thank You dr. Mitchell looks like someone left her phone up here here thank you dr. Mitchell yeah we had a month together in the big Loma Linda University Medical Center Hospital where he was the senior resident I was the intern the months in the big Hospital were typically a little bit harder than some of the other places we rotated some of the more complicated cases would show up in that place compared to other places so it was always a bit of a challenge but Alan was a great senior to work with so we we had a good month together as despite some of the difficulty so it was good so never would have thought that someday we would meet up again here at Weimar but praise the Lord for his leading in our lives so I'm going to offer a prayer again as we start this afternoon presentation and then we are going to go through Daniel chapter 11 so let's pray father in heaven we thank you for this opportunity on this Sabbath day to study your word and I pray that as we go through this important prophecy that you would enlighten our minds and give us understanding so that we will see its relevance for the time that we live and I pray this in Jesus name Amen you know pastor Don said that I was going to go through three views on Daniel 11 that's somewhat true although I'm primarily gonna give you a presentation on what I believe that the best position on Daniel 11 wouldn't be and I forgot to bring my book out but for whatever I cover this afternoon it's going to be in much greater detail in my book which the bookstore does have and they can order more if they run out but that does go through a fairly extensive I give a pretty extensive treatment to Daniel 11 but I goes through the whole Book of Daniel including practical applications so what we're going to cover this afternoon though will give you a pretty good idea of what Daniel 11 is covering so the first thing that I wanted to mention is is the prophecy of Daniel 11 important now some would say that as long as you understand Daniel T seven and eight and how Daniel nine connects to chapter eight and then Michael stands up in Daniel 12 don't worry if you don't know that e 2 and Daniel 11 I don't find that to be a perfectly acceptable response to the study of Daniel 11 because it was of such importance that Michael or Christ himself appears at the beginning of the vision in order for the vision to be given now what is it what's that getting if you look at Daniel 10 which is the pre lead to the vision of Daniel 11 Daniel is fasting mourning and praying for three full weeks now we believe that he is fasting and mourning and in prayer for these three full weeks because in actually Ellen White tells us this cyrus received an evil report from the Samaritans so there were three decrees that were used to restore Mill Jerusalem and Daniel understands from chapter 9 that these decrees will help the process along so that the Messiah can come and the initial decree that Cyrus gave is now in question because the Samaritans say that the Jews are trying to start an insurrection and so Daniel prays for three full weeks asking for God's who allowed this vision to me forward and unbeknownst to him I'm just summarizing Daniel 10 in a nutshell unbeknownst to him Gabriel came down from heaven to answer his prayer as soon as he started praying but there was a problem and the problem is that Cyrus wasn't ready - listen - Gabriel's message from God now Cyrus didn't know that Gabriel was working on his mind and Cyrus also didn't know that Satan was on the other side of his mind causing this great conflict so that he couldn't decide to go with the evil report from the Samaritans or to go with what he knew about the Jews already so there's this three weeks that goes on so Daniels fasting a morning and praying for 3-4 weeks and in verse 13 of danielson Gabriel's hills tells him that the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me 21 days now what happens in Daniels hen is that at the end of the three weeks of prang Daniel is standing by the river hid occur which we believe is the Tigris River so there's the freddie's River in the Tigris River the two main rivers of modern-day Iraq and he happened to be by the Tigris River the other name for Euphrates is you lie and if in case you study Ellen White's writings says the Yi lie in the head of Kel or what we now call the Euphrates and the Tigers and so Daniels standing by this river and all of a sudden he has a vision and he looks up in verse five and he sees a man clothed in linen and I verse 6 it says his body was like Beryl his face like lightening his eyes like lamps of fire his arms and his feet like polished brass and his voice like the voice of a multitude you know who that is that's Christ the pre-incarnate christ and then after Christ appears Daniel sees a vision and you know what the vision is it's the vision that is written down in Daniel chapter 11 so this is the last of the four major visions so if Christ's himself appeared to reveal to Daniel the last vision I'm of such a mind that I'd like to know what that vision said so if you study Daniel and you get Daniel it's you seven and eight down and you understand how chapter nine can connects the chapter eight so that you can connect the 70 weeks to the 2300 days but you don't study Daniel 11 to me you're missing one fourth of the pie you've only gotten three-fourths of the good stuff from the book and I love Daniel to seven and eight and nine connecting me I love that stuff and I've written a book on it so I love it I'm just saying if you skip Daniel 11 you're missing one-fourth of the pie as far as the prophecies and of course then there's the first six chapters with the stories which are amazing too now here's why now here here's where we see the great Conover see going on before our very eyes this is amazing to me Satan well knew that the decree to restore and build Jerusalem starts the ball rolling that clock rolling for the coming of the Messiah he also knows that that starts the ticking of the clock for the rise of the second Advent movement and the cleansing of the sanctuary so the later he can get Cyrus and the other Persian kings who came after to cooperate with the restoration and building of Jerusalem the later he can hold off the coming of the Messiah and of the cleansing of the sanctuary and the end of all things so you don't think Satan's not going to try to fight that you better believe he did and he sent the Samaritans to send evil reports back to the king and Daniel knows this as well don't think that Daniel had no clue what was happening here he was a senior statesman he understood how politics work by this point he had already been thrown into the Lions then as if I'm not mistaken so Daniel understands yeah definitely because it was the first year of the riots that he was thrown into the and now we're into the third year Syrus so Daniel he knows about politics people have tried to take him out and now he sees that the Samaritans are trying to take his people out and they're trying to mess up the whole decree that allows the Messiah to come and for the sanctuary to be cleansed now the other thing that's worth mentioning here is that in Daniel chapter 8 Daniel faints and he's astonished at the vision and nobody understands it and in Chapter 9 he's praying for understanding and the understanding that he's given relates to the first portion of the 2300 year prophecy with respect to the seventy weeks but nothing is said about what happens afterward the vision of Daniel 11 gives us significant detail especially from verses 40 to 45 about what will happen at the end of the vision when we get to the end of the 2300 days to the end of the world so there's a lot of stuff going on here that a lot of times we just kind of like oh yeah - you seven eight nine connects to eight and Michael stands up and that's all I know good that's again you're getting about seventy five percent so this is so significant that Daniel fasts mourns and prays for three full weeks not knowing that Gabriel is contending with a mind of Cyrus and after three weeks Christ who is described in this chapter as Michael said you know what Daniel's done it again one last time you know he purposed in his heart that he wouldn't defile himself his three friends didn't bow down to the image he faithfully interprets the handwriting on the wall he gets thrown into the Lions then and now and then in Daniel 9 he prays Lord what's the plan when are we going to return to Jerusalem and God answers prayer immediately and this is a practical application sometimes our prayers are answered right away but sometimes so that's - Daniel 9 Daniel gets an immediate answer to his prayer but Daniel 10 he prayed for three weeks now he didn't know that it was going to be twenty-one days when he started praying he just said this is serious and this the cream might be overturned and so he prays and he prays and he prays until the answer comes and Christ was looking down from heaven and says Daniels done it again we don't need to make him wait any longer and so what we see in Daniel 10 verse 13 where Gabriel says the Prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me 21 days but lo Michael one of the chief Prince's came to help me and I remained there with the kings of Persia now I am come to make the understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days for yet the vision is for many days so here's what happens when Michael shows up the devil loses and there are four chapters in Scripture where Michael appears in the chronology of the history of the universe the first time chronologically although it's in the end of scripture revelation 12 says there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the Dragon and the dragon fought and his angels and guess who won and guess who lost Michael won and the dragon lost Lucifer lost then the next place we see chronologically it's the second of the last book in Scripture is the book of Jude in verse 9 it says my yet Michael when contending with the devil about the body of Moses Durst not bring against him a railing accusation but said the Lord rebuke thee and guess what happens Michael wins and the devil loses Moses is resurrected then the third time chronologically that we see this great controversy warfare is here in Daniel chapter 10 where Gabriel and Lucifer contend over the mind of Cyrus and after three weeks the best Gabriel could do is to keep Cyrus from siding with Lucifer's perspective and because of the prayers of Daniel Lucifer doesn't win and after three weeks Michael who is Christ says that's it whenever Michael shows up this is Christ it didn't know it's great Conover see warfare between Christ and Satan so what's amazing to me is that this vision that is a given and Daniel 11 takes place as the result of great controversy warfare where once again Christ defeats Satan so that the decree will move forward so that the chronology will move forward so that the Messiah can come and that the second Advent movement can come with the 2300 days in the cleansing of a sanctuary there's one more place that Michael shows up and that's Daniel 12 verse 1 and that's when probation closes so here's what's interesting Michael shows up he turns the mind of Cyrus and once Cyrus has mind has turned he then appears to Daniel it's like well I'm already here so I might as well say hi to Daniel while I'm at it and so Daniel shortly before he dies he sees Christ personally and in this revelation he sees this great vision that is the vision of Daniel 11 and what Gabriel tells Daniel is now I am come to make you understand what shall befall your people in the latter days for yet the vision is for many days now some people take them you know so the purpose for the vision is for the end of the world well that's true but the word latter-day simply means anything that is future from the present time so so Gabriel is going to explain to Daniel all of the future history well it's not history at that time it's prophetic he's going to give him a prophetic overview of what's going to happen in the world and most of it now is history but at the time it was given the only thing that was historical was verse 1 when it said also in the first year of Darius the Mede even I stood to confirm and to strengthen him but by that time the rice the meat had passed off the scene and we're in the third year of Cyrus the Persian so do you think Daniel 11 is important does that introduction whet your appetite to say you know well I'm ready to jump and see what this prophecy is all about it does for me and when I see that Michael appears at the beginning of the vision and then at the end Michael stands up to deliver the children of thy people just before Jesus comes back now I'm sitting on the edge of my seat saying I gotta know what this is about this stuff is fascinating I want to know what this is all about so that's the introduction now I don't know how well you can that's not that great the what you see on the screen is a summary of the four major visions of the Book of Daniel and the lighting is such that it's probably I don't know how well you can see it but for me it's a little bit of a glare but I'm assuming that you know the four major visions Daniel - Daniel 7 Daniel 8 and maybe not Daniel 11 as much but certainly - 7 and 8 where in Daniel 2 and 7 you have Babylon medo-persia Greece and Rome and in Chapter 2 you have the divided Kingdom along with papal Rome followed by the stone striking the image which is the second coming of Jesus Daniel 7 you have the same sequence of kingdoms this time with beasts describing them and the kingdoms of this world are followed by anim Jura pocket apocalyptic event.this time it's not the Second Coming it's the beginning of the judgement and in Daniel chapter 8 we start with me - Persia which is the RAM Daniel 8 20 and 21 make it clear that we start with the RAM of me - Persia and after the sequence of kingdoms the major a pocket apocalyptic event is the cleansing of the sanctuary and then in the vision of Daniel 11 or 10 11 and 12 we have the kingdoms of this world followed by the apocalyptic event of Michael standing up which is the close of probation so sometimes it's helpful to step back and see the big picture first before you say I'm just going to jump in and try to figure out what every verse means and Daniel 11 and just make it fit somehow well it's good to see the big picture first when you see the big picture first what you'll see is a very interesting pattern that takes place daniel qi shows us that jesus is coming again but daniel 7 tells us that before jesus comes back there's going to be a judgment in heaven first and then Daniel 8 takes it one step further and says yes Jesus is coming back and yes there must be a judgment in heaven first and in order for the judgment in heaven to finish the sanctuary in heaven must be cleansed then Daniel 11 the last of the visions say when the sanctuary in heaven is cleansed then probation will close and Jesus will come back isn't that me you put them together and that starts to make more sense here's the other amazing thing when you look at those apocalyptic events Daniel 7 and 8 say 1844 is where we're going and Daniel 2 and 11 say it's in the future but the close of probation on the second coming are very close together we how far apart we don't know but they're very close together so here's what Daniels trying to teach us the most important time in the history of the world is from 1844 to the coming of Jesus and guess what that's the time we're living in so don't you think this book is relevant for us to study so when you start to see the big picture of Daniel in that way then you're not just like plugging in horns and beasts and trying to figure out this now you see the big picture you see the big picture and you're like okay now I see where Daniel 11 is taking us my belief is that Daniel 11 when you get to the end of the vision when you get to king of the south pushing up the king of the north and then the king of the north comes against him like a whirlwind and then he enters in to the glorious land and he passes down through and then he plants the Tabernacles as a palace between the season the glorious holy mountain then Michael stands up to deliver his people I believe that if Daniel 11 and 12 is saying when the sanctuary in heaven is cleansed then Michael will stand up I see the of Daniel 11 as being the struggle that God's people go through to receive the seal of the Living God they have the whole world coming after them and a death decree is issued and despite that they remained faithful and because of their faithfulness Michael stands up for them I have a hard time and again there's people with different reason I consider them to be good brothers and sisters in Christ who are good faithful adness but I have a hard time with the idea that the end of Daniel 11 is about a Middle East conflict because I don't see that in the other apocalyptic visions but I do see how the endtime struggle with God's people fits with the big picture of Michael standing up and I'm going to show that as we get there so let's keep moving here now I'm gonna give you some highlights now and again I go through all of this in my book also I would say that your ayah Smith's book and SN Haskell's book are very good through the first 35 verses of Daniel 11 I don't have really hardly any differences with either of them when it comes to the first 35 verses of Daniel 11 they stick with a literal position after verse 35 which then means that the glorious land would be literal Israel and the glorious holy mountain would be Mount Zion in literal Jerusalem and again I just don't see that happening for one key reason in the very same book of Daniel so I'm not just coming up with us off the top of my head with an opinion on Michael I don't believe that here's why I don't because the same Book of Daniel Daniel chapter 9 tells us that there's a probationary period of time for the Jewish people and in 34 ad the 70 weeks came to their end and at that point the glorious land ceased to be the territory of Israel at that point the territory where you will find God's people is the crisp Church so if you think that it was so again we'll just say it again this way so the Jewish people ceased to be God's chosen people on 3480 in fact when Stephen is being stoned he sees Jesus standing at the right hand of God in heaven just as when probation closes at the end Michael stands up so there's this close of probation for the Jewish nation I therefore don't think based on what Daniels teaching us that we're going to stay in literal Israel as a major apocalyptic end time player because God moves from the nation of Israel to the Christian Church and when you look at Daniel two seven and eight the the judgment is given in favor of the Saints and they possess the the kingdom of the Most High Daniel 8 is talking about the cleansing of the sanctuary and how that relates to God's people in the second Advent movement so again I don't see a Middle East regional conflict leading to the close of probation Michael stands up to deliver those whose names are found written in the book and by and large that's not going to be people and literal Israel is going to be people around the world so let's look at some highlights we start off in verse one with the rice the mead then in verse two we get into Xerxes and then we move into Alexander the Great and verse three then the division of Greece into the four major sections now I'll just say this first thirty thirty especially the first thirty verses we are not going to spend an hour on this you can do this on your own time it's a good study it's a fascinating study but I want to get to the end of the the prophecy which is where we are today but you can see the four territories of the division of Greece and Seleucus was in the north he eventually conquered the territories of lice amicus Lysimachus and Cassander so he became the king of the north and Ptolemy was down in Egypt he became the king of the south and then in the king of the north the Kings were named either Seleucus or Antiochus you may have heard of Antiochus Epiphanes which some people try to make to be the little horn which makes no sense but anyway and then the Kings in Egypt were always named so king of the north king of the south then there's a lot of battles between these two kingdoms in verses five through 15 in the daniel cloths that i helped teach on thursday in pastor macintoshes class verse six talks about a very interesting political alliance that took place between Berenice he was the daughter of the king of the south and she married the king of the north that lasted all of two years and she lost her position and the woman by Odie's who was put away came back and then she didn't trust her husband so she had him poisoned to death and she had Berenice put to death along with the son bear and he sad and so the fights continued and verse six tells us that that very thing would happen so if that if it was that accurate about something that was yet future in verse six we can have confidence with the rest of the vision then we keep may having verse 16 Pompey defeats Antiochus the thirteenth he becomes the king of the north he enters into the glorious land in 63 BC and then you see a description of julius caesar in verses 18 and 19 of this chapter and the his murder in the roman senate and verse 19 and then in verse 20 you see caesar augustus the raiser of taxes which correlates with the timing of the birth of christ because his parents went down to bethlehem because of this taxation um you see the death of Tiberius Caesar and Christ in verses 21 and 22 there's a few other things that are um in league with the Jews there's a final struggle the king of the north and the King of the South but in the Battle of Actium in Daniel 11 25 to 28 this is probably worth mentioning because some people object to you jumping back Crona chronologically where you you go all the way to the time of Christ and his death and then you bat jump back to 161 BC and they're like you can't do that well here's my response to that this vision is about what is going to happen to their days or the days yet to come so everything that you see is with respect to what happens to God's people now what are the king of the north and the King of the South have it you with that well if you looked at the map it just so happens that God's people get caught in the middle between the north and the south and so at the end of the world it's going to happen again but it will be a spiritual struggle not a geographical struggle and so the Romans make a league with the Gees and 161 and then it goes back to this final struggle between Caesar Augustus and Mark Anthony no Mark Antony and Caesar Augustus were initially close Mark Antony married Caesar Augustus is sister Octavius and they were out to avenge the death of Julius Caesar and Mark Antony went on the King's business to Egypt where he met Cleopatra the queen who had already had a child with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony met her and he was bewitched in the same manner that Julius Caesar was and then Antony joined forces with Cleopatra and he became the king of the south this led to this great battle the Battle of Actium September 2 31 BC which Augustus won Antony and Cleopatra had more soldiers and ships but Augustus had a better trained army and as soon as the battle heated up Cleopatra turned his ship around and fled Antony followed after her many soldiers said this as the leaders were fighting for will side with Augustus Antony fell on a sword he killed himself Cleopatra was captured and she was brought back to Rome as a trophy she allowed herself to be bitten by a snake and died so there's interesting history and it's talked about prophetically King of the South is not seen again until Daniel 11 verse 40 at the time of the end Ellen White has some things to say so that takes us largely through the first 28 29 verses Ellen White has a few things that are worth mentioning testimonies the minister is 112 113 the light that Daniel received from God was given especially for the last days the visions he saw by the banks of the Yi lie in hid aquel so that's new fray teased and tigress the great rivers of Shinar which we would they babble on are now in process of fulfillment and all the events foretold will soon come to pass so that doesn't give you a lot of detail but she does say that it's in the process of fulfillment and all the events will soon come to pass now notice this statement from testimonies volume 9 page 14 the world is stirred with a spirit of war the prophecy of the 11th chapter of daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment soon the scenes of trouble spoken of in the prophecies will take place now this definitely piques my interest in the study of this prophecy because remember it's so important that Michael or Christ himself appeared to Daniel so that Daniel could receive this vision I by the way I didn't go through all the day and you'll attend Christ revealed the vision so Daniel sees everything happened and then Gabriel describes it to him verbally so what is written down is the verbal description that Gabriel gives the Daniel of what Christ revealed to to Daniel in that which he saw so you know kind of just putting the pieces together Christ reveals what Daniel sees and if you look at Daniel 10 Daniel is so astonished by what he saw he was shaking and he wasn't even sure he wanted to hear a description and then Gabriel strengthens him to hear it and tells him and then tells it to him verbally which Daniel writes down and now we're told by Ellen why when she writes this statement that the prophecy of the eleventh chapter of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment wouldn't you like to know how far along we are in the fulfillment so what has yet to be fulfilled now Ellen White's makes a similar statement in manuscript releases vol 13 page 394 and I'm gonna pick it up in the bolded area the prophecy in the eleventh of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment now she says something that testimonies vol 9 did not say much of the history that has taken place and fulfillment of this prophecy will be repeated now notice she didn't say all of the history she said much of the history well wouldn't a good question to ask me which history which history that has taken place will be repeated because if we understand that then we probably will have a better understanding of that which has yet to be fulfilled now she says in the 30th verse a power is spoken of that shall be grieved in return and have indignation against the holy Covenant social he do he shall even return and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy Covenant now she actually writes out Daniel 11 verses 31 through 36 so if you look in Scripture she's actually starting to quote Daniel 11 in verse 30 about partway through and she says this is a new power and if you study the the the prophetic sequence in Daniel 11 the beginning of verse 30 is the fall of the Western Roman Empire when it says the ships of chittim orca team shall come against him so that's coming against the king of the north and the ships of katene or should him we understand were the naval invasions led by against Eric from North Africa or Genseric these were the Vandals who attacked Rome the Western Roman Empire by sea and you can see this in the first four trumpets of Revelation chapter 8 and this led to the downfall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 ad so when you get to verse 30 now you're at 476 ad and then Ellen White tells us under inspired authority that this new power that is spoken of after the fall of the Western Roman Empire shall be grieved and returned hand have indignation against the holy Covenant now which power followed pagan room in Daniels hue seven and eight papal room and we see that he has intelligence with them that forsake the holy Covenant so he seeks to change times and laws and then you read 31 to 36 you see the arm stands on his part they pollute the sanctuary of strength they placed the abomination that makes desolate and then you see that they persecute God's people for many days and that this persecution continues until the time of the end and then in verse 36 she says that this King shall do according to his will and he shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every God and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods which sounds very similar to Daniel 7 where four separate times speaking of the little Hornets as he shall have a mouth speaking great things so we're speaking of the papacy here now Pastor Dan said I was going to mention three different views I have some friends who they say Ellen White endorses your rice myths of a book therefore we need to follow a literal interpretation and Uriah Smith himself believed and he writes in his book that up through verse 35 is describing papal room but then he switches to the French Revolution in verse 36 but my friends today who upholds your ayats myths of you for some reason in order to try to protect his view say that France is the power that's introduced in verse 30 I mean don't get all confused in whatever but the reason why they have to be that is because when you get to verse 36 verse 36 says and the King shall do according to his will and the word before King the in the Hebrew is a definite article meaning that this King has already been referred to you meaning what you've seen in 30 to 35 this power that is spoken of that she'll have indignation against the holy Covenant and he shall place the abomination that makes desolate taking away the daily which connects to Daniel 8 and he persecutes God's sayings for many days that's the the Roman Catholic Church they which we've seen in especially in Daniel 7 and hey it's there in chapter t just not as obvious and so you know for me this is pretty clearly describing the papacy but let's get back to the bigger point here Ellen White says the prophecy in the 11th of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment so I want to know where we are then Ellen White says much of the history that has taken place in fulfillment of this prophecy will be repeated and she quotes through verse 36 and now she's basically telling us which history is going to be repeated because the next thing she says is scenes similar to those described in these words will take place so will take place is future but in the past she's describing the MIDI medieval papacy during the Dark Ages and she's saying that's the power and that's the history much of which will be repeated now that she doesn't say that every last iota of history will be repeated thank goodness because if it was we'd have another 1260 years so it's a pattern and rather than lasting for I mentioned this I think last night where there's two periods of tribulation that are the worst the world has ever seen there's the 1260 years which is the worst because of its adoration and then there's the jacobs time of trouble which is the worst because of its intensity and so there's going to be a similar pattern for the end of the world so I want to look at the pattern that we see in 32:36 we see that there's intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenants of people around forms a political alliance with the kings of the earth we see in verse 31 the arm stands on his part so there's a military power by proxy that assists the papacy because the papacy didn't have the power to dominate Europe but when Clovis of the Franks made an agreement with the papacy in 508 that established the papacy so that they could gain control of Western Europe you know in Daniel 7 you see three horns that are plucked up by the roots the Vatican Guard did not carry out the annihilation of those three tribes the Ostrogoths the Vandals and the hairy light that was Clovis's army and those who supported his army so we see a military power and then finally by 538 that was all in effect we have the abomination of desolation that the union of church and state so you have a military power you have a union of church and state followed by the persecution of the Saints that lasts for many days and it concludes with a deadly one and verse 40 when the King of the South pushes at the king of the north and by the way just so you understand what others are teaching so the Uriah Smith view is that revolutionary France becomes the king of the north 36 to 39 and then turkey becomes the king of the north and verse 40 and there's a battle between Turkey and Egypt in 1798 which is historically true which they believed was the sign that the end of all things had begun and this culminated with a conflict in the Crimean Peninsula and the 1850s that would then lead to Michael standing up so yeah I don't see that interpretation there well meaning but I don't see that um I believe verse 40 is describing the deadly wound it's not a description of a battle between Turkey and Egypt so again much of the history that has taken place in fulfillment of this prophecy will be repeated seen similar to those describing these words will take place so what we're going to see is that when the papacy because it has a deadly wound when it has its resurrection when all the when the deadly wound heals and all the world wondered after the Beast there's going to be a military power by proxy that can enforce the papacy dogma which will lead to the union of church and state which will be a National Sunday law which will then lead to the persecution of the Saints but at the end of Daniel 11 it says of the papacy he shall come to his end and none shall help him just as he received a deadly wound in 1798 so so let's yeah let's see here let's go ahead and look at verse 40 then so you may be asking then okay so now we're gonna start to get into the end of this chapter in this prophecy it says and at the time of the end show the King of the South push him now we've under we understand that in the first 30 verses Egypt was the king of the south and initially the northern territory of the division of Greece was the king of the north and then pagan Rome became the king of the north and then papal Rome became the king of the north so after we go through this Dark Age history that starts in 508 in verse 31 with armed standing on the part of the papacy and then 538 the abomination of desolation that's 538 and we go through the history of the many years the 1260 years of persecution till the time of the end then at the time of the end which when does the time of the end begin 1798 that's good because I can't tell you how many church as I go to you people are like I don't know is it 1844 so you guys are well study so that's good so yes so at 1798 there's a push from the king of the south at the papacy now it's pretty logical to say okay this is the deadly wound for example the word push is the Hebrew word nag AK which means to Gore and it's like a bull with its horn going into an opponent with the intent to kill so this is the deadly wound so the king of the south Gore's into the king of the north with the intent to kill it now we understand prophetically and historically that Napoleon sent his general birth ei into the Vatican and took Pope Pius the sixth captive in 1798 can we show from the Bible that France is a symbolic description of Egypt in the Bible and the answer is yes actually a pretty easy thing to remember we're studying Daniel 11 and the answer is found in revelation 11 so in Revelation chapter 11 at the end of the 1260 years as we come to the end of the the years of papal domination we see that in verse 7 a beast a sins out of the bottomless pit this bottomless pit is described as the abuso sand in the greek and this is describing a satanic power that comes up out of the bottomless pit that makes war against the bible and in verse 8 it says their dead bodies that's the dead bodies of Scripture shall lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt so this is interesting the French Revolution spiritually is Egypt and Sodom so it's the licentiousness of Sodom and it's the atheism of Egypt Ellen White says in great controversy 269 speaking of Egypt Pharaoh said who is Jehovah that I should obey him and then after France the King of the South continued as communists as the Communist Soviet Union and Eastern Europe interestingly the communist manifesto was written in the year 1844 by Karl Marx in the city of Paris France so the French Revolution which was based on the principles of atheism gave rise to the deadly wound that the reason why we call it the deadly wound is because at that point the papacy lost control over the state yes you still had Pope's and you still have the Vatican but they no longer had control over Western Europe with respect to political power and controlling the policies of the nations so it's a church but it lost its power over the state eventually that one will heal and the healing of the wound takes place at the Sunday law because the Sunday law is when their authority over the state power is fully reinstalled the wound is healing but it's not fully healed until the Sunday law so Communist Manifesto 1844 written in Paris France that gives rise to the Russian Revolution of 1917 with Lenin and Stalin and so in the very backyard of the papacy where they're camping out in Italy in Western Europe not far from them in the Soviet Union in Eastern Europe is an entire system that defies God and would put Catholics to death so so the push continued so the question is how is the king of the north going to make a comeback the last half says through chariots horsemen and many ships now this is interesting because we understand that this would represent a military power and so and you could also make a case that ships represent economic power if you look at certain places in Scripture so through military and economic power the papacy is going to make a comeback now that's how it began its rise to power in Daniel 11:31 so history repeats remember Ellen White said much of the history that has taken place and fulfillment of this prophecy will be repeated so 1798 king of the north receives a deadly wound that's the papacy what's the next event a military and economic power that gives force to the papacy against the king of the south allows it to make a comeback now here's a question have we seen any nation form an alliance with the papacy since 1798 that has if not led to the complete demise significantly weakened the nations that promote atheism or the king of the south here on this earth and I would suggest that we've seen at least the beginnings of this in a significant way in February 24 1992 Time magazine an article was written the Holy Alliance by Carl Bernstein he was one of the Qi reporters of Watergate Fame hmmm Bob Woodward and he wrote this article he describes the first meeting between President Reagan and Pope John Paul the second On June 7 1982 it's called one of the great secret alliances of all time what did they talk about in this meeting that lasted for nearly an hour basically the gist of the meeting was that the papacy would use its political influence in Europe with the assistance of the economic and military strength of the United States to bring down communism that was the purpose of the meeting this was not an insignificant thing five years later President Reagan stood in front of the Brandenburg Gate of the Berlin Wall and probably one of the most iconic moments of his presidency you've probably seen this where he said mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall two years later the wall came crashing down now you know for me I remember this vividly as a twelve year old if you're a college student I guess you don't remember this but it was interesting it was it was seismic it was unbelievable nobody thought that something like this could happen and it happened too overnight and it was prophetic but the Bible says that this would have to happen because eventually according to Daniel 11 the the papacy is going to overrun the territory of the atheistic nations of this world so well where are we today now that's kind of an old picture but when John Paul the second night there he had a living president a current president at the time with chief former presidents kneeling in front of the dead body of the Pope along with the Secretary of State off to the far right and the first lady there as well so I've read the statement before again Ellen White says the prophecy in the 11th of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment much of the history that has taken place and fulfillment of this prophecy will be repeated that's the history of papal domination during the 1260 years she says scene similar to those described in these words will take place so we've seen already an alliance from a military and economic standpoint from the United States of America to prop up the papacy here's the interesting thing it was France the territory of France that provided military support to the papacy in 508 but it was France that gave the deadly wound in 1798 if you look at what happens at the end of the world it's the United States that gives military support to the papacy and eventually it will be Protestants in America who will be foremost and reaching across the abyss to form a Sunday law but then you see at the end that the power that supports the papacy turns against it when they realized that they are on the wrong side so history will repeat itself again so after so if you look at Daniel 11:31 first there was armed standing on the part of the papacy that's France allowing the papacy to establish itself as the preeminent power politically in Western Europe which then allowed Justinian to make a decree that said the Bishop of Rome was also the head of the state so now you have union of church and state we are at a place prophetically and by the way this has happened since Ellen White's statement that the prophecy in the 11th of Daniel has nearly reached its complete fulfillment we are at a place prophetically now where the next thing that's going to take place will be the union of church and state which will be a Sunday law so when you look at how the papacy comes back he'll come against the king of the south with chariots horsemen and many ships he shall enter into the countries and shall overflow and pass over so he will conquer that territory and I believe that the complete conquering of that territory of the atheistic Nations is not simply militarily it's spiritually and that will be through a Sunday loss so the verse 40 is not completely fulfilled but the process of fulfillment has begun so the next thing that we're going to see will be a National Sunday law in this prophecy I don't know how long it's going to be but we see event prophecy so just just something that's worth mentioning here there were time prophecies up till 1844 between 1844 and the Second Coming yes there are prophecies they are not prime time prophecies they are event the Seas then we see in verse 41 that the papacy enters into the glorious land and many shall be overthrown the word countries as applied shouldn't be there let's talk a little bit about the glorious land and the glorious holy mountain because the glorious holy mountains further on down the glorious land represented in the old tour in the earlier passages the territory of literal Israel the glorious holy mountain was the literal mountain sign on the north side of Jerusalem so they're not the same thing the glorious lands a wider territory I mean I gave this talk initially GYC and Baltimore Maryland but you could say the same thing about Weimar California if you're in Weimar you're also in California but there's a lot of places in California that you could be that are not Weimar same thing with the glorious land and glorious holy mountain if you're in the glorious holy mountain you're also in the glorious land but you could be in a lot of different places so you get the point glorious Lamb is the whole country glorious holy mountain is one town in that territory so what do I believe about these territories the glorious holy mountain is a smaller group the glorious land is a larger group and let's see if you go to Joel 230g if you go to Joel chapter Chee and we'll start actually in verse 31 this is describing what's going to happen at the end of the world where it says the Sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the Great and the terrible day of the Lord come verse 30 says and it shall come to pass that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered by the way I believe that's synonymous with Daniel 12 verse 1 where Michael stands up and he will deliver everyone whose name is found written in the book that word delivered is the same in the Hebrews Daniel 12:1 so whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be delivered now notice it says for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance as the LORD hath said and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call so this is describing Mount Zion which is the glorious holy mountain what you see here is that Mount Zion is synonymous with Jerusalem and it's also synonymous with the and so I believe the glorious holy mountain is describing the worldwide seventh-day admist remnant Church that survives the shaking during the Sunday law crisis and they will be the ones who stand on Mount Zion with a lamb the glorious land is a wider territory that includes worldwide Adventism that also could include other Christian churches and when the king of the north enters into the glorious land it is for the purpose of conquest if you study Daniel 11:1 under the king of the north or the king of the south enter into a territory it is for the purpose of conquests so when the king of the north enters into the territory of the glorious land the way he conquers that territory which is the territory of God's people is by passing a law which causes them to go against the law of God which causes them to receive the mark of the beast and to be lost so this is the abomination of desolation and history repeats so you have a military power first then you have union of church and state abomination of desolation here's a statement from great controversy 608 as the storm approaches a large class you have professed faith in the third angels message but have not been sanctified through obedience to the truth abandoned their position and joined the ranks of opposition and then she goes on to say other things so sanctification is really important do you think sanctification doesn't matter you're preparing to receive the mark of the beast now there's four stages to the Sunday law it's not like we're gonna wake up one day and all of a sudden it's like if you don't go to church on Sunday we're gonna be put to death you know there's an escalation where it starts off with refraining from working and L&Y actually says during that first phase we can do missionary work on that day and warn the world that's when the lot of cry is going to go out and force and so you know that doesn't mean okay I don't care I'm gonna open up my shop on Sunday and I'm not getting the mark of the beast no you you redirect your energy but you're not going to church and you're going to do missionary labor during that time but then they see that god-fearing seventh-day Adventist aren't getting on board so they escalate it - you can still worship on your Sabbath that day but you need to honor Sunday to you it's a holy day that you need to keep then it escalates further - you cannot worship on Sabbath you can only worship on Sunday and if you do worship on Sabbath we're gonna find you and we'll even put you in prison this is during the period of time known as the little time of trouble finally it escalates to the death penalty which takes us down to 40 verse 44 and 45 - those who worship Sabbath and disregard Sunday so verse 41 when he enters into the glorious land are the beginning phases of the Sunday law and then it escalates from 41 to 45 now if you look at Daniel 11 in verse 41 it says that he enters into the glorious land many shall be overthrown the many that are overthrown are those who received the mark of the beast but then others escape out of his hand even Edom and Moab and the chief of the children of Ammon now the were the children of Esau had the Moabites and the ammonites were the sons of lot through his daughters when they got him drunk so these were not part of God's people but they were related to God's people if you go to Isaiah chapter 11 again this is easy to remember Isaiah chapter 11 this is probably worth looking at briefly in Isaiah chapter 11 starting in verse 11 it says it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall set is handing in the second time to recover the remnant of his people which shall be loved from a number of places that are listed and when you come down to verse 14 it says that they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab and the children of Ammon shall obey Him so at the end of the world when the Sabbath message is given one last time as the remnant gives this message which where they set up an ensign for the nation so it's the Sabbath message the sealing message the loud crying message identifying that Babylon is fallen the and the mobile and the ammonites come in just as many others are going out from receiving the mark of the beast so God is still in control of what's happening and then in verse 42 it says he shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries and the land of Egypt shall not escape the land of Egypt that's the territory of the king of the south so here's what's happening when the Sunday law crisis escalates in Revelation 13 it says he shall make fire come down from heaven on the earth in the side of men so there are going to be supernatural miracles that Satan will be working to try to make it look as if God is on the side of this false system of worship and when that happens atheism will cease to exist the land of Egypt will not escape because for atheists seeing is believing you've got to give me evidence God that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of he's somewhere up there and I can't see him and I don't believe and I'm bla bla bla atheists don't believe what they don't see but when they see these supernatural manifestations take place when the Sunday law crisis escalates the remaining communist nations atheistic nations of this earth will fall into line and that includes China and there's Cuba and Laos and some other places and then it talks about the Libyans and the Ethiopians being his steps I mentioned briefly the battle between Caesar Augustus and Mark Antony and Cleopatra in that battle the Libyans and the Ethiopians formed a last line of defense for the king of the south and at the end of time similarly there are other religions out there that have not been on the side of the papacy that have actually been aligned with the atheistic Nations if you look at the last 30 to 50 years the Islamic nations of the Middle East have typically formed alliances with the Soviet Union and Russia in opposition to the West now I know there's people out there that are teaching that Islam is the king of the south and we're waiting for some time and the fee for Islam to make an attack against Christianity and then we'll see the end of the world I just don't see Islam as being the major endtime player that some people try to make it to be first of all Daniel 11 verse 40 says it's at the time of the end that the king of the south pushes at the papacy those who say Islam as the King of the South say that the time of the end begins in 1844 which is just wrong the time of the inn begins in 1798 and again I don't say that they're not worthy of fellowship they're brothers and sisters in Christ I just don't agree with their position and I do believe it's a bit sensationalistic because it's kind of a knee-jerk looking at the news headlines to try to make it fit Bible prophecy rather than using Bible prophecy to enter the news it shouldn't be the other way around and so I do see the Islam as a minor player in the prophecy of Daniel 11 but I don't see it as the king of the south they are ancillary pieces now in a spiritual symbolic sense in the Hebrew mind the king of the north has come down from the north he's come down through Syria he's come through the glorious land many have been overthrown and it seems like he's gaining control of the whole world he's come down into Egypt now the Libyans and the Ethiopians are out of steps so he's in control of the north he's in control of the south and seemingly he's in control of the whole world at that point Libya and Ethiopia are to the south and west of Egypt also you shouldn't know in verse 43 says he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver I believe that that's the escalation and the Sunday law crisis where no man can buy or sell and so we've escalated to a point where he's gained control of the whole world no man can buy or sell and it seems as if God's people are going to be wiped off the map but in verse 44 it says but tidings out of the east and out of the North shall trouble him therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy and utterly to make away many so he gets down to the south and west of Jerusalem and he seemingly gained control of the whole world and then he gets news that there's a message coming from the north and the east from where he's and symbolically that's the territory of Jerusalem which is where Mount Zion is which is where the remnant is which is where the hundred and forty-four thousand are found on Mount Zion and they are giving a loud cry message saying Babylon the Great is fallen is fallen and that infuriates the papacy and this correlates with Revelation 12:17 which says the dragon was wroth with a woman and went to make war with the remnant of her seed which keep the commandments and have the testimony of Jesus Christ so this is a commandment keeping people who have the testimony of Jesus which is the spirit of prophecy it's no coincidence the Satan has come into our church by attacking the idea of obedience and by attacking the authority of the spirit of prophecy because those two characteristics will preserve us from the attacks of Satan so here you have an endtime message given by God's people that identify here the papacy is and this then leads to your response I'm gonna skip over these quotes here you know with the law cry message is so history repeats we have a military power assisting the papacy Church state union is formed then we see the persecution of the Saints when he goes forth with a great fury to destroy and utterly to make away many and I believe that this is the death decree because he's going out for the purpose to destroy God's people and in verse 45 he plants the tabernacle verses Tabernacles of his palace between the Seas in the glorious holy mountain yet he shall come to his Inn and none shall help him now the King James Version says that he plants these Tabernacles of his palace in the glorious holy mountain new King James is a better translation it's between the Seas and of the glorious holy mountain so if you look at the map you can kind of see it here Jerusalem is in that bright green area and the Mediterranean Sea is off to the west and so symbolically there's this planting of the tent that's other Tabernacles of the palace between the Mediterranean Sea and the territory of God's people now see symbolically represents people so what's happening is and it's kind of like the Roman army ceej in jerusalem but you have the whole see the whole Mediterranean Sea backing up this death decree where the whole world is on the side of the papacy and they're saying if you don't conform you will be put to death and you have the small little remnant and the glorious holy mountain symbolizing God's endtime remnant Church that are going to be wiped off the map by this death decree notice what Ellen White says review and Herald November 1990 know eight wonderful events are seem to open before the world the end of all things is at hand the time of trouble is about to come upon the people of God than it is that the decree will go forth forbidding those who keep the Sabbath the Lord to buy or sell and threatening them with punishment and even death if they do not observe the first day of the week of the Sabbath now notice this right after the death of Kree what happens and at that time shall Michael stand up the Great Prince which standeth for the children of thy people see here's a quote right there which to me conclusively answers what's happening here I do not see forty to forty five as a Middle East conflict I see 44 and 45 as the death decree and when a death decree is issued against God's people it's at that time that Michael stands up to deliver his people at that time shall Michael stand up the Great Prince which standeth for the children of thy people and there shall be a time of trouble and all we can finish that so we're almost done I want to I want to finish by giving you something she reflect upon when Michael stands up whenever he appears it means that there is a great conover sea battle that's taking place and this is the ultimate battle in the great controversy so if you kind of got lost in some of the detail of forty to forty five it's okay because you're gonna understand this last part so if you don't remember anything else listen to this when Michael appears at the end of this great vision it's an announcement that this is a great Conover seach struggle between Christ and Satan and the reason why is because Satan has worked through the papacy whom he has given his power seat and authority to you to make a death decree against his remnant people and so Michael says that's it I am standing up to deliver my people but he's not just standing up to stand up the end of Daniel is showing us that the sanctuary has been cleansed if you look at Daniel choose seven and eight specifically Daniel seven when the judgment begins it says the court is seated and the books were open so the father and the son sit down to begin a work of investigation but when that work is finished Michael stands up now I want to show you something that will blow your mind and it blew my mind when I put this together if you understand what Michael or Christ has been doing while he was seated you will understand what has been completed when he stands up notice this he is seated at the right hand of God Hebrews eight verses 1 and he says that now the things which we have spoken this is the son we have such a high priest who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens a minister of the sanctuary know the true Tabernacle which the Lord pitched and not man so he is our high priest seated at the right hand of God and in verse 8 it says he's the mediator of a better covenant so he's our high priest seated at the right hand of God as the mediator of a better covenant and in Hebrews 8 verses 9 through 12 as the mediator of the better covenant he works to write his law into our hearts and minds so that he can blot out our sins and when he has finished this work he will have a commandment keeping people not only that Hebrews 12 verses 1 & 2 describes Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith if you look at Hebrews 12:1 and 2 it says wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross despising the shame and a set down at the right hand of the throne of God Jesus is the author and the finisher of our faith seated at the right hand of the throne of God and we are to look to him as the as we run the race of faith that a set of force we were to run with patience or endurance not only that we are to exercise faith the faith of Jesus when Christ finishes this work at the right hand of God he will also have a group of people who have the patience of the saints and the faith of Jesus have you ever seen that Bible verse before here's the patience of the Saints here are they that keep the commandments of God in the faith of Jesus now here's the thing that blows my mind when Michael stands up he is standing up to deliver his people who the devil has declared a death decree against and the time of trouble is about to begin and when he stands up he is announcing as Michael the Great Prince who whenever he uses that title he is saying I am great and I am in great controversy warfare with the devil and in heaven in Revelation chapter 12 he cast Satan out because he won and in Jude 9 he rebuked Satan and sent him away in resurrected Moses and in Daniel chapter 10 he turned the mind of Cyrus and sent Satan away so that the prophecies of the 70 weeks on the 2300 days could move forward but in Daniel chapter 12 verse 1 Michael is because he is saying I have won the final victory in the great Conover Sea against Satan here they are on looking universe here they are here is the patience of the Saints here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus here is a group of people that in the face of a death decree where they lost all of their money all of their possessions whatever they had whatever it was they said we love Jesus so much you can take our life but you won't take our soul we will stand true to God and Michael says that's the group I'm standing up for and then he's going to flip the great controversy on its head because Satanist said God's law is arbitrary and cannot be kept I was a perfect man and a perfect environment and God made a law that made it impossible for us as angels to be happy and God is going to say what do you have to say now Satan these people came from the weakest generation that has ever lived on planet Earth and through my grace and through my power I have transformed them into the image of my son you have no arguments left in the great conversation at that time shall Michael stand up and the arguments of Satan are forever silenced and that's the message the question I have for you is and you know basically this is really more of a Bible study but I did try to give you at least some you know a spiritual nugget to finish on but it's amazing if you look at these prophecies to see who we are as a prophetic people and whenever we say oh I can't obey and this doesn't make I don't need to follow this council surely God wouldn't care if I don't follow whether this says every time we do that we are unwittingly siding on the wrong side of the gray Conover see but God will have a people on the earth before it's all said and done who reflect the image of Jesus fully because of our love for him and of the power that is in our lives and so when you look at Daniel 11 you know it wraps up Michael stands up there will be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation and then it says and at that time thy people shall be delivered every one that shall be found written in the book you know I don't care what else happens to me in my life but I pray that when Michael stands up my name will be found written in the book and you know when you have children you say you know what I'll have their names in the book even if it means my name isn't there I want them there too and then it closes by saying they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament and they that turn many to righteousness as the Stars forever and ever those who are the wise connects to the wise virgins that we talked about today are the ones who receive the outpouring of the latter rain because they have the extra oil and their vessels with their lamps and they give the loud cry message that identifies that the tidings out of the east and out of the north that identifies the character of God to a lost and dying world and calls people out of Babylon and they stand through the final crisis and God says that these are the wise who have shown as the brightness of the firmament and they have churned many to righteousness as the Stars forever and ever so I'll just close with us and I'm not making them appeal where people come forward we've done that this week but I just want to say this if you want to have a life that means something live a life or by the grace of God he uses you to turn many to righteousness because nothing else is going to satisfy you the only thing that will satisfy you is winning souls for Christ now that doesn't mean that you have to be an evangelist or you know a pastor you could do that as a nurse as a physician as a teacher you could do it as as a cafeteria worker you could do it as as any profession whatever it is God can use you to reach people where they are and turn many to righteousness so that's the prophecy of Daniel 11 to me it's very clear what we've talked about today it connects with Daniel to seven and eight it just broadens upon that concept and gives us a lot more detail of what happens down to the very end and it fits with everything else we understand from Daniel and revelation it's not what I've shared with you is nothing new it's just maybe something you haven't seen in Daniel before but it's everything everything that I've seen you can basically prove elsewhere in in Daniel and revelation so hopefully that makes sense we do need to wrap up because I know the nursing thing is going to start in about an hour and they they probably need to get set up for all of that so why don't we close with prayer and we'll go from there father in heaven thank you for this week that we've had together at weimar we thank you for the more sure word of prophecy we thank you for what the Bible says thank you that we can stand on this sure word thank you that we can commit our lives to you knowing that in the end you will be victorious no matter what difficulties we pass through which
