expanse of heaven and will lead the many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever and it has been a year of crazy changes we've almost been doing this for a year and i love it's like perfect timing for a verse like that to be a theme in the world when there's fear and there's a pandemic in the entire world for us to focus our eyes on jesus and shine bright be a center of of hope for people so we're stoked that you guys are with us today that you've been coming along the journey if you're new raise your hand in the comments let us know that you're new and also today we're going to be having an episode on reacting am i reacting or am i responding dad said earlier or both or maybe a little of both you said it earlier you're like okay this is the title am i a rector or am i a responder oh jesus help me and i think that's kind of where we're at you know the certain days you're just like on fumes or other days you're able to really have a place of responding so we're going to tackle that topic today but before we do i just wanted to invite you guys to go ahead and hit share share this with your friends um because i think the topic alone for those who aren't believers are gonna go they like it's a term they're familiar with even do i react or do i respond in the day and age where we have personality tests and understanding ourselves is so prevalent go ahead and hit share because you have no idea who might hop on and discover a whole new world like jesus and his love for them so um yeah everything we're doing is kind of dead it's out of your new book the feeler and um i don't have it right here usually i do can you show it dad yep here we go this is um a new book called the feeler it just came out a few weeks ago a week ago 10 days ago it's a little over a friend from college gave this one to me many years ago so i have to pause and take a little sip and i have lemon ginger tea today oh that sounds good i've actually been drinking that a lot recently yep okay so father thank you for this time today and we're asking for the word of truth and light and holy spirit guidance to come forth to continue to lead and guide us in your revelation and into your ways in jesus name amen well last week we um talked some about handling sensitivity and our theme verse last week was just from first thessalonians chapter 5 verse 19 about do not quench the holy spirit and so while each of these sessions obviously stand alone they're writing out a bit of a sequence and so today i'm building on that on am i a reactor or a responder but today we will spend more most of our time on a q a section but am i a reactor or a responder and my theme verse today comes from romans chapter 8 verse 14 for all who are led by the spirit of god are the children of god i love that now many translations will say are the sons of god the new living translation i love it because it says are the children of god and and obviously that is purposefully i'm sure translated in a gender inclusive manner it doesn't say sons of god but children of god but it's those who are led by the spirit so important it doesn't only say there those who are born of the spirit because there are a lot of people who are born of the spirit but they stay as infants and they don't grow they get born but they don't grow and there are stages like in the natural there are stages in our growth in the spirit of god there's actually about three different words that are used in our maturation process one would be infants one would be like young men and young women and then another would be more like fathers and mothers and so but for those who are led by the spirit then those are the more this isn't the word is an infants that is this is not a word that's just these are the infants of god these are the children of god these are those who are walking with god and that's what we want to be and you know as we think and we chew on all of this we are all led by someone or something and in the book of revelations it talks about the disciples of the lord jesus christ and it says that they follow the lamb wherever he goes so i'm gonna jump in it doesn't say we follow our feelings wherever they go and that's going to sound contrary to the title of this book the feeler developing sensitivity i see what is it developing discovering how sensitivity helps you discern and act on god's voice but it's not at all because i am now i'm gonna be careful to not go too much into the teacher side i promised everybody this time but you see first of all we are word based scripture based and so we follow fact knowledge and then we pray the word and it becomes revelation so it's fact before it actually is feelings and so and i really am uh teach this particularly in chapter five of the book how to respond to feelings i talk about grounded in the word grounded in the church and then led by the spirit i don't start on being led by the spirit you go really no i talked first about grounded and being grounded now i have so i want us to know that i'm not talking about just following feelings i'm talking about getting grounded i'm talking about our spirit soul hurt wounds getting healed i'm talking about grafting the word of god into our soul the book of james which is able to save our soul we've talked about this before and then i'm talking about the living jesus lives in us and he's an emotive god and then we learn to trust those sanctified whole emotions of god the holy spirit in union with our spirit now let's just go ahead and now having said all of those little qualifiers i want to talk give you an illustration two little illustrations a game children play hot potato cold potato or whatever it is you know and i don't even know if i'm gonna share it right and i don't know if rachel you even remember but you know it's like you have a you know it's just a hot potato and you toss it around or something you know and and some things are too hot to handle you know and if we are being only feeling led believe me it's too hot to handle and so um let me use the illustration of the geiger counter which is going to be easier for me to probably explain a geiger counter and some of you um you know have you ever seen one of those like clicking machines and they're somebody's out and they're looking for metal and they have this like just like almost like a wand or this like you know device and it like click click click click click click click click and then it goes faster when it finds the metal and or it it it starts clicking slower and almost doesn't have any sound at all when there's nothing in the area but the closer that you get to the precious metal or whatever it is you're looking for like i i remember when we lived out in our farm and some people would come um looking for like civil war artifacts and they would have detectors and they're looking for them but geiger counters are used in a search and again they're um metal detectors to a degree and so there's also see games that we play hot cold games and you hide something and then you're you're playing so rachel could you help me develop the hot cold game thing yeah yeah yeah so you were talking about hot potato which is one game and but then you're talking about the hot and cold game which is the other which i think is more where you're going to go right my mind's not like yeah explain it exactly exhilarating as a kid yeah even when you're a kid it's fun so just the other day i watched mckendree my husband go into playing that probably for one of the first times with our four-year-old just because you don't always think about those games and then it just like pops in your head childhood kicks back in and you remember this fun game so he had hit something in the yard and um had to teach ruby how she she closed her eyes is walking around and he's telling her that when she meanders you're getting hotter you're getting hotter you're burning hot you're getting really hot oh you're you're you're on fire and what you know at that point you're like i found it i'm right here or if you're walking the opposite direction oh you're ice cold oh you're so far away oh yeah it's really really chilly oh burr like it's oh get out of here um and so that's you know that's the hot and cold game that at least we grew up it's also very like marco poloy you know like marco polo and you say polo and they're like you have you're trying to dodge and find and seeking and searching and but the game of like hide and seek or searching or something even scripture calls us to search out right it's like those who seek will find that's right and i don't think god is someone that's gonna he's gonna be uh like imagine mckendry out in the yard and he if he would mislead ruby yeah you're not gonna do that god doesn't do that he actually it is truth so when you're talking about like grounding in the word of god god will always point us to being grounded he's not going to point us to like being blown by the wind and love that that's what you're talking about like number one is being grounded in the word yes so back to you yeah so i was just trying to use some illustrations whether it's the hot cold game or a geiger counter is that we have to reach a place with our feelings that they're trustworthy now there are things that are always reliable the word of god is always reliable and the holy spirit only guides us into truth now on being responsive versus reactive i actually uh have a program called mentoring of james and people enroll in it for like a year at a time and i have my uh three online classes that i teach every year the people can be like enroll in like one class that's great and they can though enroll in mentoring at james and have all three classes at a lesser uh cost but i also do a lot of extra benefits and so i do a monthly e-letter and i do a monthly video so last night i actually was recording my monthly special video called wisdom with james just for my mentoring of james group and it was on a word fitly spoken i think it fits with this on being reactive versus a responder and so i used proverbs 25 11. a word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver apples of gold in settings of silver now i don't want to like spoil all of this okay but listen to this because it is also about being a responder versus a reactor apples of gold in settings of silver is a word fitly spoken huh those are both precious metals really uh-huh so a word fitly spoken that's not reactive but is responsive is like a precious metal it's also an apple really it's a gold apple apples are good fruit so if you're being responsive versus reactive it is really good fruit it is good fruit it's an apple and but it's also full of wisdom and so i i i i just want to get i want to give a couple of little keys on being responsive versus reactive this is something i have had to learn i don't always do it well but it's like i get a lot of comments tossed my way whether it's in social media or emails and i do a lot a fair amount of arbitration between leaders and or you know just because i am a leader of leaders and so and and i get a lot of comments and opinions and things that are a lot of it just tossed my way so i will take a word document and i will sometimes i've had to learn to do this this is being responsive versus reactive because sometimes i actually need to emote my feelings but instead of just doing it in the email and doing it rashly and in a rush have you ever done that or in social media just because they did and then you do and then it's like that's why we did okay i got to be careful because we gotta do q a that remember we did that session on boundaries in the social media age this is why i did that we did that but so i've had to learn to go over here in a word document write out my thoughts include my reactions and emote but don't send it don't send it push pause leave it pray pray try to cast try to cast my anxieties upon the lord and push pause go back and revisit it the next day look at it take some of the adverbs out and then actually edit it because then when i take a step away i will see i allowed myself to be emotive i allowed myself to vent which i needed to do for my own soul but i don't need to do with them because i'm going to stir the pot i've allowed myself to breathe but i allowed myself to now respond instead of react and i pushed pause then i edit it and then i've prayed and i might send my response not reaction a day later in another situation right now that i'm in the middle of i have about three or four different leaders and they're just processing all of their stuff on social media and it's a disaster what they're doing it's just so unethical it's just not it's just really not cool what they're doing and i'm being drawn into it and i need to be drawn into it but i'm not answering anybody right now on purpose i'm just not i'm gonna let them stew in their own juices for a while i am on purpose and i'm going to pray and everybody knows i'm going to pray and then i'm going to step in when the lord says to step in then so it can be responsive and not as reactive and so it can be solution oriented instead of problematic so anyway there's a lot of things to deal with in being responsive versus reactive and particularly for us people who are feeler extra sensitive oriented people so there we go and that's a little bit of illustrations and some things that i deal with a lot in my sphere okay i was just gonna add really quickly that um i'm not like the number one feeler in our family but it's definitely i mean i definitely can't operate in it um but i'm probably the more fiery one who can probably be more reactive um and i'm just gonna add how important it is to listen because this is probably one of my biggest lessons that i've learned that if you just looked at how you like processed it out in a word doc i do that all the time i open up a note on my phone and i'm like trash start over do it again it's like gets more redeemed as i do it um but if you can in a moment where you feel your spirit or not like you're you're just being stirred like if something's real you're you're like okay something's hitting pushing a button in you how important is it to take a breath and instead of making it about yourself get perspective because um if you can take a pause and like zoom out you know how have you seen like those in movies where like it starts really you're like oh here's the person's life and it zooms out and it zooms out it zooms out it zooms out and you're like there's the whole world if you can get perspective and then ask the lord to help you hear their like who you're talking to or maybe it's a post you're seeing or a video and it actually gives you compassion for them or helps to see their perspectives you can actually hear them and you're not reacting you can actually respond with a better more intuitive better holy spirit response absolutely yeah yeah really good it's much easier said than done let me tell you oh yeah yeah so let's let's say let's look at some let's look at some questions and knowing that there's actually about 10 different answers so many yeah so these are some that have been submitted from social media which we love having you guys apart occasionally you'll see us do a post that says like please send in questions about this and this is one of those opportunities where we're just like send your questions we love hearing your questions um so pam has written how not to allow other people's feelings to overwhelm or affect my own emotions how to process and keep them separate from my own okay could you re-phrase the as a question okay how can i not allow other people's feelings to overwhelm or affect my own emotions i'll stop there wow how can i okay deal with that you're being exposed to a lot of other people's feelings and emotions and as a sensitive type person then not let those of others overwhelm you and and affect you like affect i would say persuade you know at times it can okay persuade i'm going to add that in because i think that's important you know see again that depends upon the person's sphere of influence their place of responsibility and or their calling in life so uh one of the things would be is this person a burden bearer and um because burden bearers are i'm going to use another phrase feeler intercessors we pick up the emotions or the feelings of people and or of an atmosphere of an area a church a business a city and how what happens do we let that or them overly impact us and then let's say it's like a spirit of heaviness and then we're picking that up and then what happens and then are we now carrying that and we become overwhelmed and then instead of being i was glad when they said to me let's go to the house of the lord we're now i was sad because we have picked up and we're supposed to carry it yeah but we're supposed to carry it at a distance to the throne of god and let it go but because we're not schooled well enough we identify with the feeling we get overwhelmed with it and we carry it we're only supposed to pick it up and then we're supposed to carry it and let it go and this is a big mistake a lot of us make and we carry it too long because jesus said his burden is easy and his yoke is light and if it's becoming burdensome and way too heavy i would say you're carrying it too long and you need to learn to let go you've got to let it go so then this also gets tricky because you've got to learn to discern what's your feelings what's someone else's what's an atmosphere what's a feeling uh an emotion a spiri a spiritual atmosphere in a in a region now but let's leave that because see these are all interrelated but i really want to say is that we have the lessons we've got to learn on how to pick something up and how to deliver the cargo and let it go this is so so so very important um otherwise we end up becoming heavy or we will become anxious with something that's not ours and that is the very opposite of what the holy spirit intends we will become anxious and that's the very opposite of what the holy spirit did or we will become fearful with someone else's fear we will become okay i'm gonna get real vulnerable and then we'll move on to something else and you can add a comment my dear mom who is in heaven my dear mom i love you mom mom you impacted my life in an incredible way but there was a fine line with my dear mom between worry and prayer and i couldn't sometimes discern it was really difficult to discern when she was in genuine faith and when she was in denial and it and i had to discern because it was either worry or it was intercession when it was denial and she just i'm not going to listen to that i can't hear that or when it was actually she was in a gift of faith now what's that got to do with yes yes this all makes a difference because are you really picking up something and delivering it and letting it go or are you just like huh um i know i might not be let's see adequately expressing this but i hope that by being vulnerable in and dealing with because see there's a fine line between worry and fear and faith and um you know and actually denial so anyway guys let's just say that we've got to learn to pick something up identify but we've got to learn to release it to god and let it go or we end up coming under that influence and instead of changing the atmosphere we let that atmosphere change us so good i have a follow-up to you is that okay no okay so one of the main areas that i step into a place of discernment is when i'm actually watching a film or i'm watching uh and i can feel the like the motive of the people who created the art or whatever i can i can feel the demonic um like tangibleness that is wanting to lurk on people and all the time i have to turn off a movie i just turn off the show or i'm just like man i was really invested in that story it was so good but it passed this moral boundary oh there's a line there's a line and it is so important to um even even when we're like watching stuff it's like i feel like we could do a whole episode on something like that but like to keep our our spirits alert even when you're like worn out and you want to just relax and so two things that have helped me like crazy because i'm highly sensitive into in this area like i'm like i'm the one that will walk out of a movie theater because i'm just like i ain't gonna deal with that i'm not gonna take that home with me i'm i'm not gonna pick up those toxins exactly it's polluted yeah and so two things even if you're like okay you powered through because you were like really hoping for a story of hope to come in or whatever because i've done that you know and you're like hoping that there's there's gonna be this grand turn and you know human nature is revealed is good and you know whatever okay so um one like after i've washed okay so even it's like if you had a conversation with someone and you feel extremely heavy afterwards or you've watched something you feel extremely heavy afterwards and you're just like look like why why did i invest two hours of my life um one wash yourself in the word wash yourself in the word of god um another thing that i do immediately to shift the atmosphere and i've done this especially when like my husband's been gone on the road and i it's been me like i'm the one in control this you know this this is my thing um i put on soaking music yup julie true is one of my favorites i just like tell my alexa which i hope it doesn't oops unplug it um i tell it like um play julie true get some soaking music going because you need the presence of god to cleanse you you need to get in the presence of the lord to shift the atmosphere so you can start um you can pull out so many one and just start praying speaking psalm 91 over your brain over your heart your emotions your your home um and just don't don't be passive about it because the moment you feel that that is your discernment that's right and that is your your feelings working that's right so um i know that was like a rant um that's really good it's one area where i'm i'm very highly sensitive in yeah you are um and i actually have prayed like these are prayers that i prayed as a child that i would be someone who walks in purity that clean hands and a pure heart and part of that has come very intensely in what i consume as entertainment that's right it's probably just because of what i'm called to and what i'm supposed to walk in hey listen uh i turned on the grammys for 20 minutes and i turned it immediately off right and i love music and you know i love music but i'm not going to let that atmosphere into my home right uh-uh no because i'm the gatekeeper absolutely and i'm not gonna let my love for music then end up becoming a wrong open door for a realm of feelings of seduction absolutely because that was absolutely nothing more than carnality pollution jezebel seduction and we could put a bunch of other sleazy words that we don't have to and it was horrific so i i i maybe watched 15 minutes and i slammed that one off for sure yeah i didn't watch it but what i've heard is um just all the things you've said um so moving on yeah moving into let's just ask um the wilmer wrote is a feeler generally sensitive in the natural as well as the spiritual yeah so um it's a yes and a no some are extra sensitive in their what i call sorry i got my little dog up here again in their wiring in their wiring in just the way they are born made because of maybe their birth order because of their ethnic background because of their geography because of their circumstances in life some because of calling so is it natural is it natural and spiritual is it only spiritual i have to say it's yes and no and no and yes and yes and yes and no one know so it's yeah it's it's a combination so i have a chapter in the book on that it is natural and spiritual senses so i believe that some people who are not prone to as much being as sensitive oriented naturally are great candidates to being spiritually sensitive why because god's grace is perfected in our weakness and so they literally they might be come across as like that they aren't as uh emotive they're not maybe as sensitive but when it comes to the gifts of the spirit god's grace is literally perfected in our weakness and they might be literally someone that might move in an incredible gift of a word of knowledge in an what's referenced as empathetic word of knowledge that means you're feeling someone else's pain you're hitting someone else's question which i'm going to insert so you can answer at the same time patricia wrote a feeler has been called an empath are we sure this is from god so keep going yeah so but i'm putting in a context of the gift of word of knowledge right now but i can i have a chapter in in here on the gifts of the spirit and i am then doing something that has been talked about but i have a full chapter where i am taking the nine gifts and i am comparing how each of the gifts can be associated with different feelings every single one of them the gift of prophecy discerning of spirits the word of knowledge the gift of faith and so but let's stay right now for the moment on the word of knowledge the word of knowledge oriented with gifts of healings it will come in it's called the empathetic or the empathy it's not your pain you are feeling someone else's pain and you feel a pain in your shoulder it's not yours it's not your pain you're sensing sensing feeling temporarily someone else's pain but it's actually a gift now that person in the natural might not be and one that's not their pain in the natural two they might not be wired as as much as a sensitive oriented feeler type sensitive person perhaps they might be let's say they're not and i have found that people who move at times in that word of knowledge in an empathetic empathetic word of knowledge are often not the feeler type people and it works great but then because it's tagged with a gift of faith and that gift of faith is often not feeler oriented it's a knower oriented it's a gift of faith and you know and you know that you know that you know that you know and it's and you know it and you just know now sometimes the gift of faith then in a fetal realm it's a sudden surge of confidence and you just you hear you know it that you can also feel it and it's like the river of god and it rises up and it's a god confidence and all of a sudden it rises up and you just you can't be budged you know and you don't know how you know but there is this surge and it rises up it's called the river of god and a river has a flow and it rises up and jesus said and out of your innermost being will flow rivers and so and that might be the gift of faith that's also how the gift of prophecy works and it will rise up now we've talked about this a little before so the empathetic word of knowledge but let's also deal with discerning of spirits which we've talked about before some also and you'll feel i feel more on discerning a spirits and i will feel a tight band around my head well did i just go work out and i had like a sweat band on no but i'll feel a tight band now what is that it's con it's a constraint to the mind of christ and it's something that's warring against my mind and i have to ask the questions where why am i feeling this where is it coming from what does this mean and a lot of this comes by experience a lot of it comes by testing the spirits to see whether they be of god so i'm off on already about 10 different areas without really fully answering probably any one of them so i'm gonna stop and let you rachel pick up my pieces and then respond to me and see if we can kind of clean up what i just have presented we're kind of out of time but you know the question uh was is i feel are generally sensitive in the natural as well as the spiritual and and i think your giftings do mix you know like in your home life and then when you're like very zeroed in to the lord they work tandem in tandem together so my answer would be yes yes right absolutely simple but um it's just we need to learn how to use our gifting in the natural on the daily basis um and have them be redeemed which is what we do constantly is by you know presenting our hearts to the lord and asking him to cleanse us and to keep us pure and um to get healing and things like that because no one's admitted from going through hardship in your life or like having like oh i wish i had a good relationship with my dad like there's just like you know there are things in life that we all wish we could change and the great thing is is that jesus is with us and he loves to give us i just seem like giving like a big old bear hug right now um because i may have hit a a um a button in some of you when i just mentioned that i kind of felt like oh some of us just need a bear hug from jesus and that that's a feeler see but the reality is whether you hey the truth is we all need unconditional love absolutely we all need it and so guess what i want to say god loves you with an everlasting love he really really does and we've got to learn to receive it by faith as a fact yes from god's word and then when we do that and we accept it it's a truth our emotions and our feelings will come in line but if we're waiting for our feelings to come first in line they won't we must learn to we're by the word by faith and then our feelings will come in line because they will become whole step by step step by step step by step and our geiger counter will go click click click click click because we are preserved blameless spirit soul and body preserved blameless and and i got one last little scripture word he who began a good work in you will perfect it in christ jesus hey you know what's amazing is that i love this interaction but it goes by way too quick it goes so fast and then we're like oops yeah there's all of our time well i know that there's so many more questions
