[Music] this is Nick with logos bye next calm and in today's tutorial I'll be demonstrating how you can create this isometric shop icon using Inkscape so we'll get started here in Inkscape and by the way if you'd like to know how you can make Inkscape appear darkened with these custom icons the link to that information will be in the description of the video so the first thing we're going to do is set up our document so that we're all working on the same page here we'll go to view make sure that cut set to custom and then we'll zoom in at 1 to 1 view zoom 1 to 1 and then we'll open up the align and distribute menu with this button up here and we're going to want to last selected chosen from that drop-down and then we'll open up the Edit objects colors gradients and Stroke menu with that button up there and now what we want to do is go to file document properties which is right here control shift control DS and there's a shortcut and in the document property let me make this a little bigger the display units I want to set that to pixels and border show page border we're going to uncheck that we don't want the page border and then we're to come over here to grids and from the drop down we're going to choose axonometric grid go ahead and click new and that's going to put a like an isometric grid on our page and to set this up we want to have grid units up here we want this to be set to pixels we want these to set to zero for the spacing we want to set that to a hundred just type in 100 and for the angle X and angle Y we could leave that as it is a 30 and then we can close out of that and we now have our grid set up so what we're going to do now is the first part we're going to create is the inside of the roof here we're going to create the entire route first so to grab that let's grab the Bezier pan which is over here or if you press B on the keyboard and if you look at the grid you'll notice there's two different kinds of lines there's main lines and then there's very faint thinner lines between each and there's one two three four every five segments there's a main line in the Biff the difference is hard to notice unless you really look at so we're gonna have to be able to decipher the difference in this video so to start this we're going to come over here we're to the main lines intersect and click to create a point right there and then we're going to skip up to the right to this main line up here we're going to skip that and skip up to the next main line so we're going to the distance of two main lines up that way and go ahead and click again and they were to come back down the same distance we'll go one two and click then go down to the left of same distance one two click and come over here put that right there like that so we end up with like this diamond shape right here and we're going to color that in from our color picker down here I'm going to color that in like a dark shade of blue like a sated dark blue something like that and I'll slide this back over to the left and I want to get rid of that black outline going around the outside of it by holding shift and clicking on the X and if your screen is too zoomed in you could hold control and roll up and down in the mouse wheel to zoom in and out in case there was video the resolution of your screen means you can't draw that shape in its entirety without having to zoom out so that's how you could do that so what we're going to do now is create like the beveled edge of the roof here to do that I'll start this left point and click start a shape right here go to the left up here to the center point and down here back to the starting point like that and the color I'm going to make that is like a dark red we're going to be working with three different shades of red for this one so we're going to start with the dark red which is down here I'm going to use seven eight two one two one use that shape and again get rid of the black outline by holding shift and clicking the X and then we'll create another shape going the opposite way start right here then up to the right one step and up here down there that's the starting point and then we're going to make this one a light shade of red so we'll go ahead and pick a lighter shade of red like down here something like this that's pretty good get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X and now we want to shape create a shape going around the entire outside perimeter of this that's one unit bigger so to do that we'll start up a dis left edge and come over one unit over to the next corner the next intersecting point like that click there click here up to the center point then down here and back over here and back over here and we're going to make this a medium shade of red so we'll make that a medium shade of red down here the good c83 7:37 and then we want to go to the select tool which press f1 on the keyboard as a shortcut we give lower that to the bottom with the button that says lower selection to the bottom and again get rid of the black outline hold shift and click the X then we can come back to the Bezier kind by pressing B on the keyboard and what we want to do now is put like a little inner shadow on the inside of the dark blue part which is like right here so to do that let's create a little shape going in with in that one segment wide going within that area right there and I'll make that the same shape this blue is I'll just press f7 to get a dropper and click and drag on that to make that the same shade then I'll come over to the fill tab and under the HSL tab if you look at the L row we can take that and slide that to the left a little bit to make that a little darker and then we just go ahead and get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X missed it okay so the next step would be to create the bevel part of the building like going down so to do that go back to the bed da pen we'll press B on the keyboard will start our line right here at the left edge click go down one step back to the center point over here back over there and we want to make this the same light shade that that is so we'll grab our dropper tool by pressing f7 get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X and press B on the keyboard to get our bezzie a pen again and we're going to create another shape going the opposite direction and this one's going to be colored in the darker shade of red so we'll grab our dropper again all these tools are over here in the sidebar is well you have to drop or you at the bezzie a pen and a select tool get rid of the outline hold your shift and click the X so we now have the roof created we're going to do now is create the walls of the shop so to do that I'll grab the bezzie a pen by pressing B on the keyboard and I'm going to start on the left edge over here we're going to go in one step let me close out of that I'm going to go in one step and I'm going to go down to the main line right here one and I'm going to go down to the next Lane line two and then go down to the next main line three and maybe one more four so we want to go down four main lines right there and then hold control and bring this line down right here to the center of where this is right there click back up here and back to the starting point like that we can go ahead and make that a light shade of grey something like that and get rid of the outline we'll go back to the Select tool just press f1 on the keyboard to get that I'm going to duplicate that by hitting ctrl D or you could right-click it and go to duplicate and I want to make this a darker shade of grey maybe something like that maybe not that darker and then we're going to flip this horizontally with this button up here flip selected object horizontally and just take this and snap this to the corner over here and you know we want to turn on the snap to custom nodes for the entirety of this tutorial so I'm going to turn that on and I'll snap this corner over here like that and what I want to do now is go back to the bezzie a pen by pressing B and I want to create a little shadow coming off the lip of the roof right here if you notice here there's a little bit of a shadow coming down so to do that go ahead and click one step below with the bottom where the top of the roof is create that shape right there and I want to make this a slightly darker shade of grey than what's already there like that then we can just press get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X and now we're going to do is I'm going to create the door so to do that I'm going to come over here to the center the bottom center point and I'm going to go up one step and then I'm gonna go up to the left one step and that's what we're going to start when I create a point right there now we're going to come up here maybe move out there that main line right there click it'll go over one two three go over three steps like that and then down to the bottom one step above where the edges and back to the starting point like that and that's going to be where our door is so I'm going to color that in a light shade of blue like that and I'll get rid of the at maybe a lighter shade something maybe something like that that's pretty and what I'll do is I'll get rid of that outline by holding shift and clicking the X as I've done previously and what I want to do now is get rid of part of this wall so I'm going to start a point right here I'm going to go over to the bottom left edge of the door let me zoom in to show you better I'll start at the bottom left corner of the door and click and come down to the left of this edge right here and click and back over here one step before the corner and up here and then right there so we end up with a shape like that and I'll go to the select tool press f1 is a shortcut hold shift click on the grey shape that it's sitting on and go to tack difference so we end up with something like that so what I'm going to do now is I'll go back to the bezzie a pen by pressing B and I'm going to create the shadow not the shadow kind of like the edge of the door right there so to do that go ahead start a point the top left to go up to the left one step and over here and over there back to the top and I'm going to make this the same shade of gray that this is over here so I'll just press f7 for the dropper make that that shape I'll hold shift and click on the X to get rid of that outline and I'll press B to get back to the Bezier a pen and I want to create another shape going inside of here so we'll start at the bottom left corner of the door click one square shape going one segment by one segment like that and I want to make that the medium shade of red so I'll press f7 for the dropper make that that medium shade of red get rid of the outline go back to the vegie a pen now I'm going to create another outline going right here we'll start at this top left corner go up here down there down here and up to there and I want to create another one right here as well so we'll start at this bottom corner this meeting point go up one unit go left one unit and down and back to the start and I'll go back to the Select tool and I'm going to hold shift and click on both of those and make them the light shade of red using the dropper so as seven for the dropper get rid of the outline go back to the Bezier pen and we're going to create another segment going right here on this side so we'll start down here come up there and up here and over there back to the starting point and we'll make that a darker the same dark shade of red that that is so if we'll get the dropper F seven make that that shade of rays hold shift click the X to get rid of the outline and now we're going to create the windows so I'll press B to get the bezzie a pen and I come one segment to the left of the door right here on the same line at the top of the door is I come up to the left once that meant like that click I'm going to bring this line up to the left one segment before the wall ends like that and click and I'll come down one two three four yeah I've been out four steps like that and back over here back over there to the starting point we'll make this the same shade of blue this is by pressing f7 for the dropper get rid of the outline and we're going to create a little um like a little lip a little ledge going on the inside of the window here like you see here so to do that be for the bezzie a pen we're going to start in this corner go down one segment and down here one segment before the edge and down here back to the start like that let me zoom in so I could show you better and I want to make this the same shade of grey that this is over here I think is that what I did yes I'll make that the same shade of gray so again we'll grab the dropper make that that shade get rid of the outline go back to the vegie a pen and we're going to create another shape going this way right in there close that up just like that it should be pretty intuitive at this point it kind of makes sense which way these objects are supposed to be going and I'm going to make that white and I'll get rid of the outline and what I want to do is I want to hold I want to go back to the Select tool f1 for the keyboard shortcut and I want to hold shift and click on the gray ledge and the blue window so we have all of the parts of the window selected and I want to duplicate that by hitting ctrl D and then I'll group it together with the group button up here or you just press ctrl G to group it together and then I want to flip it horizontally now I want to bring this over here one segment in and on the same a horizontal plane that the door and the window are sitting on over here put that there like that and I'll duplicate that again by hitting ctrl D and again I'll take this and put this right there like that and what we can do now is hold shift and click the other window and just ungroup them both click off but to deselect everything and we want to take this shape right here to the right we can't see it because it's the same shade as the wall we want to change that we want to change that to the darker shade of grey that this is so we'll grab the dropper make it that shade and we'll do the same thing go back to the Select tool take this shape take the dropper make it that shade I'll go back to the Select tool and let me zoom out a little bit and show you all right so we have the foundation pretty much set what we have to do now is create the top of the building the awning and the platform let's do the platform next to create the platform I'm going to grab the bed da pen and I've started the bottom left corner and go to the left three segments so I'll go one two three three segments like that and start there and I'll bring this down to the center point click and bring this up until it's three segments out from here from the bottom right corner so one two three like that right there and then bring this right back up to here like that click and we'll go along the inside will go along the outside edge of our building and finish our line up like that and again I want to go one two three three segments up and then back to the starting point over here so we should end up with this platform shape like that and again I'm just rolling up and down in the mouse holding ctrl and rolling up and down the mouse wheel to zoom in and out now I want to grab the dropper make this the same shade of that same faded blue that that is hold shift click the X the outline and what I want to do now is go back to the bed za pang and put a little lip on the bottom of the platform there so I'll click this right here start this I'll make this one segment one segment long make this the same shade of blue that is by grabbing the dropper and that will come over to the elf row and slide that to the right a little bit to make that a little lighter get rid of the outline and we'll go back to the bed da pen and create another shape just like that but going the other way back to the starting point and I'll press f7 for the dropper make this the same dark shade of this shadow way up here like that and get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X one thing I forgot to put on the door on the bottom here is kind of like a kick stop for the door if you notice here I have like a little darker shade right there do that I'll just grab the bed za pen and create a little one segment long object going in there like that and I'll make that the same dark shade that this is with the dropper get rid of the outline take a look so what we'll do now is we'll create the top of the building here so to do that let me zoom in I'm gonna grab the Bezier tent by pressing B and I want to come up here to the left edge and go up one segment and then click to start right there and go up three segments one two three and click you come over here right right on the vertical line where the center point is just like that and again we'll come down here to one segment up from the center point and then back to the starting point like that till we end up with that shape and we want to make that shape the lighter shade of red let me go back to that grab the dropper make that the lighter shade of red and we want to put a circle sort of shape on the top of it like you see I've done here in the thumbnail to do that let's get rid of the outline let's grab the Select tool and let's just take this and bring this out of the way for now and what I want to do now is temporarily temporarily disable the grid I'm going to do that by holding shift and clicking 3 so it's the number sign the pounds on the keyboard to get rid of the grid temporarily and I want to click on this again to get the rotation handles and I'm going to hold ctrl and take this right arrow here in the center and slide that up to step so I'll go one two so we end up with the rectangle like this and then I'll grab the circles and ellipses tool I know I'll just create an ellipse you go to the Select tool and change the shades but I'll create an ellipse right on top of it like that let me just click and drag over both of those Center them up on the vertical axis and we'll unify them together by going to pack Union and then I'll bring that back down to which shape that originally was by clicking on it again to get back to the rotation handles hold ctrl take this arrow to the right and this time we'll slide it down two steps one two and we could activate our grid once again by once again hitting shift 3 or the pound key and I want to take this object and put this right here like that and I want to right I want to right click that and go to duplicate and make that copy the dark shade of red so we'll grab the dropper and I want to take this top left corner over here and place it one segment to the right so I'll put this right up there I'll lower that one step so it goes beneath the lighter shade of red and we'll go back to the Bezier pan we're going to close in these edges right here by creating a shape let me zoom in so you can see better create a shape right there make it the dark shade of red with the dropper tool get rid of the outline come up here and do the same thing create the dark the other shape right there dark shade of red get rid of the outline you zoom out and the next thing we have to create is be awning so to do that what I'll do is I'll grab the vegie a pen I'll start at this bottom left corner right here and click and I'm going to hold ctrl and go down to this we're going to go against the we're going to go out of line of the grid here for this we're not going to be going in the shape of the grid we're going to go down we're going to hold ctrl and bring it down negative 120 degree angle it says the angle down here in this part of the screen hold it down bring it up like a 100 you know what yeah 120 like that and snap it to that line click and then hold ctrl and bring this along this line right here and bring this to about here I think it's one segment into the blue door and click and up here now you know what I could get to go to segments in like that and back up here and then back to the starting point and that's what we should end up with something like that so we went and we went into the blue part of the door one two we went two segments in and that's where we brought that line back up to the corner so this color that's going to be that's going to be the light shade of red as well let me grab the dropper make that the light shade of red get rid of the outline how you know what you know what yeah we'll make that the light shade of red let me get rid of the outline by holding shift and clicking the X go back to the Select tool I'm actually going to position this I position that wrong I'm going to take this and put it up here so we'll take that put it up there like that that's how that should be so we'll go back to the bed z8n and i want to start at this corner here click and go up to this corner of the shadow right there and click then go up to this corner and then back to the starting point like that and I want to make that the dark shade of red grab the dropper make that the dark shade of red get rid of the outline I'm going to grab the Bezier kind again I'm going to start at this bottom left corner and create a one segment long shape going down here like this holding ctrl to lock it to the lock it to that axis down here to where this corner is click back up here and back to the starting point and this one's going to be the medium shade of red so let me press f7 for the dropper make that the medium shade of red get rid of the outline and I'm going to create another shape in here right inside of there like that and we're going to make that the dark shade of red so grab the dropper make that the dark shade and now we're going to put some stripes on the awning right there to do that I'm going to grab the bed a pen and then come over to this left edge and skip over one step I'll start one unit in right here and then click and up to this corner and click and over one segment to this corner click down to here and down to there so we end up with that and I'll make that white and I'll get rid of the outline and I'm going to create another one right here starting to this corner going down this way one unit wide and high like that we're going to make this too slightly like a light shade of gray something like that networks hold shift click the X and we're going to do is we're going to duplicate these and put one every other segment so let's go to the Select tool hold shift click on the light object and to move the page around I'm just I'm just pressing down the mouse wheel and moving the mouse so I'll right click that and go to duplicate and I'll bring this over skipping a unit I'll duplicate it again by hitting ctrl D skip a unit ctrl D right there ctrl D and it should be one more and one final step would be to put a little shadow underneath the awning here to make it look like the awnings casting a shadow and after that we should be complete so to do that let's grab the bed G a pen we'll start right here go down one unit go over here to the bottom corner of the awning and click then go up to the right to the start of the right side wall and up here over there back to the starting point and for this I'm just going to make this black and then get rid of the outline and I'm going to bring the opacity of that down like that and let me zoom out and there you have it we have created our shop icon and oh you know what let's put some text on the sign so what I want to do now is I want to grab the select tool and I want to click and drag over all of this and I want to create a copy of it by hitting ctrl D you just move the copy over here and then I want to turn off the grid by hitting shift 3 and if I want to edit this and add details to this I'll use this copy right here I'm just holding ctrl and shift and scaling it down like that we could add details to it over here this will be our finished copy the reason I made a duplicate of it in case if we need to go back and like restructure these walls or do something different we could always go back over here and turn the grid back on and make changes to this original copy but for the copy we want to work with this over here I'm going to create some texture right there grab the text tool f8 is the keyboard shortcut I'm just going to write stuff store whoops grab the select tool click on it a second time to get the rotation handle let me zoom in I'm just going to hold ctrl and take this right arrow and slide back down to steps one to come over here hold shift click on the sign and just Center it up on the vertical and horizontal axis click off of it to deselect now I'll just take that bring that down a little bit I'll make that the dark actually I'll make that white let me zoom out and there you pretty much have it that's how you can create our little shop icon isometric shop icon using Inkscape so if you have any questions wonder as always thank you for watching [Music] you
