hello and welcome to just one more watch if this is your first time here a special hello just for you my name is Judy and I would love you to subscribe to the channel by hitting the button on your chosen device most of what I look at here on the just one more watch channel is a little bit more economically priced than today's subject matter the Rolex Submariner but that doesn't mean to say that I don't admire and aspire to certain Swiss luxury watches I've got a couple in my collection already and the one that has always been at the very top of the tree the pinnacle the peak has been the Rolex Submariner I've said it before a 40 millimeter black dial dive watch is for me the ultimate watch and the Rolex Submariner is for me the ultimate 40 millimeter black dial dive watch but you know what they say you should never meet your heroes because they'll surely disappoint you and I remember the time that I tried on this exact Rolex Submariner in the middle of last year I put it on my wrist and a little bit inside of me died because I knew at that point that I would never own a Rolex Submariner let's flip the camera and find out why before I tell you why let me start by saying that I'm not going to trash the Rolex Submariner today I think the sub E is the most iconic watch of all time they've been making these ones since the early 1950s and they have been spotted on the wrists of the rich and famous as well as on the wrists of North Sea oil men these things genuinely deserve the reputation as the the best dive watch in the world I should also make it clear from the beginning that when I first tried on this very watch this one belongs to my mysterious Rolex owning friend mr. X if there's a Rolex on the channel it's pretty much bound to be his when I first tried it on June last year I wasn't exactly standing in front of the Rolex boutique with ten grand in my top pocket so this is all somewhat speculative however in spite of its iconic status I knew as soon as I put it on my wrist then I wouldn't be buying one of these any time soon but mr. X has and he bought the right one as well this is a 20 eighteen node a sub let's have a look at it plastic box you should be noted for your ten thousand six hundred New Zealand dollars in this case this one came from a dealer over there this is the double one four zero six zero model all of these new submariners are six digits the rest of them that the two tones the dates etc are all double one double six and insert two more digits there so why are on the subject of money this new date sub costs approximately eight thousand US dollars it's a little under 10,000 ozzie if you want the date video you're looking at a grand on top of that and keep going upwards if you want the precious metals or the color variants but good luck buying one I'm led to believe that around a two year waiting list on this no date model leading to these trading for almost twenty percent premium on the used market so you can see what you want about the watch costing that chunk of money but when you can sell it for more than you paid for it the value equation goes out the window today frankly so the dimensions haven't changed much over the years even if the proportions have I'll talk about that a little later on forty millimeters in diameter just over twelve and a half mil thick forty seven and a half log tip to log tip 20 mil of width tapering down to fifteen and a half so quite a considerable vintage style I would say taper on this bracelet back up to seventeen and a half at the glide lock clasp and I'll talk about this bracelet I think arguably the world's best bracelet on a watch at this current point in time sized up from mr. X copper links removed this one weighs in at that sports watch sweet spot a hundred and fifty five grams so rule excuses their own proprietary steel they call it Easter steel 904 L now it's actually softer than three one six L so it will scratch up as you can see mr. axe isn't frightened or wheeling his pieces this one has got a number of Nick's cuts and scratches on it so it's a little bit softer than three once Excel but it does have a different Sheen to it I'll do a comparison later on and it does polish out a little better so in a long term it's a kind of long term but you I guess the nine or four rather than the three one six ale so it is a dive watch obviously 300 meters of water resistance screwed on crowd and I'll show you the screw down case back a little later on one of the changes they made to this watch in 2012 was they added a ceramic bezel rather than an aluminium bezel and not just any ceramic again this is Rolexes own proprietary Serra chrome ceramic the indents are filled with platinum just to make them a little bit fancier also fairly fancy is Rolexes proprietary loom again one of the updates to the 2012 model this is called chroma light it has the same blue shoe as bgw 9 but it is alleged to last twice as long anecdotally I wholeheartedly agree with that claim the loom is pretty outstanding on this and every other Rolex that I've looked at featuring this chroma light and the dial is pretty much perfection classic Mercedes hands there with that little lollipop in the second hand we've got the Rolex crown Rolex Oyster Perpetual underneath the triangular index at 12 we've got battens at 3 6 and 9 and circular indices everywhere else now people complain about the abundance of text four lines of text or with worse Submariner 300 meters superlative chronometer and officially certified previous models only had two lines it did look a little cleaner but I'm not going to complain about the four lines I still think the dial looks amazing Swiss made just at the bottom there next to the six o'clock and next and another change that they added in 2012 was are etched chapter ring so a little riho dial there you see royal actual actual actual legs all the way around I could take a leave that myself but you don't really notice it in operation of the watch indexes are obviously applied and they are made of white gold so they do not tarnish they will not tarnish again this is a long-term thing you're supposed to buy one of these subbies and enjoy it for many decades white gold indices will remain as good as the daily life the factory for the many decades that you're with this watch bezel action is as you'd expect outstanding 120 click you need rotating bezel and you can hear just how positively that engages no back play whatsoever and it should be noted the crown action is also outstanding satisfying pop there when you pull it out just one adjustment today because we don't have any date on this model and threads very very easily you can see that extra little seal they are helping with the 300 meters of water resistance so probably the best bracelet in the world then classic three length oyster lovely very fine brushing on there screw lengths nice curvature to each of those links as well just helping this watch be super super comfortable to live with on a daily basis and another one of these recent updates the 2012 update the so called ceramic model the six digit of which this watch is one was this play lock clasp and I think it's genius it is fairly substantial though it's a chunker thing to have sitting at the bottom of your wrist when you've got the watch on however it is adjustable not on the wrist you do have to take the watch off to adjust it but pull that out and you've got a fair degree of adjustment maybe three quarters of an inch centimeter and a half nearly 2 centimeters you'll have no problem getting the perfect fit from this watch regardless of weather conditions I guess it doubles up as wetsuit extension as well but you always get the right fit with a sub e thanks to this glide lock case back is a unspectacular classic Rolex sterile case back solid in links there this one contains their three 130 Rolex caliber movement but we should really talk about it whilst looking at the dial and not that boring case back the three 130 movement name is a bit of a Rolex classic manufactured and developed in-house it powers the Explorer and a whole bunch of other three hander oyster cased watches 31 jewels it hacks at hand wines as a 40 hour power serve and a frequency of 20 8800 vibrations per hour giving that lovely smooth sweep of the second hand it always looks a little bit smoother on a Rolex I'm not quite sure how they manage that and bloody accurate this thing is certified to standards so that's plus or minus two seconds Keast as you can see there this one mixture of winder time and rest I'm coming in with less than a second variance I guess that's why you're stumping up the Big Cheese for one of these this all sounds great Jordi why aren't you in the queue to buy one what's your bloody problem well I've talked a lot about the 2012 upgrade to this six digit so-called ceramic model and I think we'll it's got a lot of things right the ceramic insert for a start looks stunning blade lock bracelet incredible addition to the watch para chrome here spring in that movement no idea what it is but I'm sure it's a good thing however they made one change which I just don't agree with and that's this Maxie case they've gone to a much bigger looking case with double the size of the lugs and I just don't like it unfortunately I do not have a five-digit to line rolex submariner in my collection and neither does mr. eggs so I can't show you one of those by comparison today but I can show you what I think book suffice as the next best thing there's you know ocean Rover now I'm not spooking the ocean Rover as an alternative to the Rolex Submariner I don't think anyone has ever walked her the Rolex dealer saying nope I'm not gonna buy a sub II I'm gonna buy as you know ocean Rover however I will say that having all one of these it's kind of difficult to justify spending an extra nine grand on one of those but anyway the point is look at the difference in the case shapes the Jeannot pretty much copies the style of the older five-digit sub and I think it is a much more elegant much more integrated much more holistically designed overall watch it looks like the bracelet is part of the watch rather than the head of the watch being this big slab and the bracelet jutting out either end which is the impression that this six digits of a gives because of those double sized logs and that's the impression that it gives me on wrist as well I'm afraid which is a shame just doesn't look nearly as elegant as the previous models with the narrower lugs I mean I'm not saying it looks bad the ceramic bezel insert looks pretty stunning and the 9 or 4 stainless steel does have a can a deep and lustrous sheen which you don't get from 31 6l and the sheen is clearly evident when you take this watch outside as well now it's a dive watch it's a tool watch it's super legible black dial those lovely white gold hands and indices on there as well really dead clear at all times this watch just a pleasure to read and it does set nicely I mean it's not the thickest watch in the world wears quite flat there isn't a lot of curvature to the mid case but because that guard lock and because of the relatively minimal protrusion of the case back it does sit quite nicely on wrists it just doesn't sit as nicely as it would though if it had those narrow logs of the old five digits okay okay Jory enough cryin don't buy a new one then buy an old one well yes there is that argument if you don't like the new six digit subs why don't you buy a five digit sub instead well it's kind of hard in some ways to go back to get the model with out the ceramic bezel insert without that stunning glide lock clasp without the chroma light without the para chrome here spring and you're paying pretty much the same money for it as a value seeker I would find it even more difficult stumping up ten thousand dollars or there abouts for something that I know the previous owner hadn't paid anything like that and it wasn't as good as the one that I could buy from the shop so that's why I will never buy a Rolex Submariner I'm not 100% convinced by the new one with the Maxie case and let's face it you'd have to be a hundred percent convinced if you were gonna drop this much money on a watch and I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a secondhand model there is though one potential solution to my Rolex was that one so there you have it the six-digit royce of manner and icon a legend a stunning watch and I'll never buy one you see my quandary don't you 12 grand and I several year waiting list to buy a watch that I'm not a hundred percent convinced of or twelve grand to buy something that's ten years old that I'm not 100% convinced of in some ways are real shame because I've been a longtime admirer of this watch I'm not quite sure why they puffed up the case years ago I'm not sure if the market demand that it at the time it seems to me though that the markets happily chewing up to buy these ones so Who am I to argue with rule X's decision and hey at least I just saved myself 12 grand thanks for watching see you in the next video
