hello and welcome to just one more watch if this is your first time here a special hello just for you my name is Judy I make three videos a week and I love watches if you also love watches I would love it if you would subscribe to the channel by hitting the big button that says subscribe on it to be honest most of what I do here at that just one more watch channel is a little bit more economically viable shall we see than today's subject material the Rolex explorer fortunately I do have a good friend with more watches than sense the mysterious mr. X you can follow him on Instagram at the real mr. X Sydney he's becoming a little bit instafamous and I think he quite enjoys it he has loaned me a whole bunch of Rolex his full review on the channel over the past twelve months or so I've looked at his ear King his Submariner is two-tone Submariner his Rolex polar explorer 2 and a couple of different deep seas but the one watch in his collection that I've always had one eye on has been the Rolex explorer it is just about perfect indeed it is almost the perfect Rolex in my humble opinion so why not the perfect Rolex Judy what's your problem with this one today well if you are a regular on the channel you can probably guess already what my problem with this one is it's the price 6500 odd US dollars $8,700 e that is a biblical amount of money for our three hand no complications stainless steel sports watch is it made in space by unicorns why is it so expensive I've talked about this on a number of occasions in the past when I've reviewed Rolex watches they have got the whole community by the short and curlies at the moment if you want a Rolex on your wrist that's the price of entry that's the price you've got a page if you do stump up the readies though I think you are rewarded with an absolutely stunning watch perfect size perfect proportions great weight feels good on the wrist ultra act you're a silent movement that will last you for a lifetime what more could you want let's flip the camera and have a look at the rolex explorer so the explorer - one four two seven zero then it's gonna get the full monty today indoor/outdoor wrist shots loom video i'm gonna get this one on a time graph i see how that movement is performing and some nice macro shots of those beautiful white gold indices a little later on but i thought i would talk about after the price in the intro eight 7rz I thought I'd talk about retained value now the Explorer is a little bit easier to get than the GMT master - and the Submariner these days those ones you walk out the shop and you've made money already if you're lucky enough to get one the Explorer is a bit easier to find so it doesn't have that incident appreciation if you check on chronal 24 if I search for explorer 204 - 7 0 and these ones going back to about 2010 that the larger 39 Mills I am at our model they haven't lost all that much money at all have the entry point there is about 8 grand now I'd imagine they were less than 8 grand back in 2010 so if you bought one kept in reasonable shape you've probably made money similarly if you just check for Rolex explorer and there's a few scrubbers under seven grand Ozzy but really 7 grand Australian is your entry level these watches did not cost 7,000 Australian when they were new in the mid 1990s or whenever they were purchased so rock solid residual value doesn't appreciate straight out of the shop like the Submariner does but you're not gonna lose money on an explorer it really is money in the bank and just look at that watch they've been making this one for about 50 years it is pretty much perfection not too much extraneous bump in with the box instruction manual which I have no intention of reading and mr. X has got a hang tags and the spear legs for this one and there is the guarantee card model number they are serial number behind conceal'd five-year warranty and 10 year service intervals on the movement so 39 millimeters in diameter eleven point two milf its so nice and slim 47 mill work tip to lug tip 20 millimeter lot with tape down to 15 and a half back up to 17 and a half mil at the clasp sized up for mr. X whose wrist is pretty much the same size as mine rather conveniently this one weighs in at 133 grams so just a gorgeous gorgeous set of proportions dimensions very very kind of discrete wears very light on the wrist as well nicely balanced now 904 el oyster steel a lot of this watch contains Rolexes own proprietary technology including the steel it's their own brand of steel if you will it is more corrosion resistant than 3 1 6l that you'll find it elsewhere it does scratch more easily though however those scratches can be polished out more easily so it's a bit of a balance saw an end links of course we have screwed links I'll talk about the bracelet more in just a second dead flat sapphire crystal covering the dial bit of an anachronism no relax continuing not to put anti-reflective coating on the underside I'll take it outside you'll see it does struggle a little bit for legibility and natural light but the dial is just so damn ledge for in the first place then it kind of works its way around it now they call this a monoblock mid cases that the oyster case screw down stare out case back and we have a twin lock crown system so it is a screw down crown nice little Coronet the rolex coronate on there giving this one 100 metres of water resistance so really hits the kind of ultimate sports watch ultimate tool watch this one o stainless 100 metre water-resistant go anywhere do pretty much anything zoomed in on the dial and it really is a thing of beauty applied indices they're kind of classic Arabic sat 3 6 & 9 that really is what defines the Explorer the triangle up there are 12 battens everywhere else Rula X are perpetual and the coronet underneath the index at 12 explorer superlative chronometer officially certified I'll be checking that on the time graph in just a second or two above the six and of course Swiss made there now these indices and the hands are all white gold so they change to white gold a few years ago the idea being that they are tarnish resistant they will not Road and degrade with time meaning your Rolex explorer will look just as good in ten years or 20 years time as the day that you picked it up from the boutique classic simple Mercedes handset lollipop secondhand now I'll pop the Luther video up this is Rolexes own proprietary chroma light lumely introduced this one a few years ago apparently a outlast be gw9 by a factor of two so it's got that same iced white go this is they're gonna mark two explorer that two one four two seven two zero point five if you will they fully loom the indices as well as the hands a couple of years ago and i think the watch is better for it you know i have a bit of a loom fetish you're not gonna get much better than chroma light the bracelet really is a thing of beauty lovely lee brushing on the top surface now it is a three link oyster and i can use the or word because this is of course a rolex and they have coffee written the word oyster steel clasp again the oyster clasp we call it with a fold over the coronet on there again and some beautiful inching under there now this one contains the easy link system so it's a kind of flip-flop gives you five mill either way on-the-fly adjustment now they're buggers rolex they don't actually give you that with the oyster perpetual so you pay seven and a half grand Ozzie for their base model but they don't give you that easy link you got a stump up the extra for the explorer if you want that but it is a bit of a boon if you're willing your watch in bed you can open it right out or if it's a hot day you can do the same or if it's a cold day or you jump in the pool you can give it a little bit more security by flicking it onto their the inner of the two options so popping up on the good old wishy one thousand this one appears to be doing quite well for itself plus one second per day variants the caliber is the three one three two it's a Rolex in house caliber obviously they've been making this one for a decade or more it currently powers all they're slightly smaller oyster perpetual and explorer watches thirty-one jewels 48-hour power reserve it bidirectionally wines it obviously hacks when you pull the crown out frequency is 28,800 vibrate our very simple door just a three hander not even deep complication you certainly pay more than your 87 if you want to date with Rolex it's got all the usual good stuff the para chrome here spring the para flakes shock absorption system now it's a certified chronometer which means it should be running - for two plus six in this kind of default flounders back position at room temperature law like still see that the case every watch plus or minus two so this one pretty much spot-on right in the middle that's what you pay for I suppose you also pay for a watch that looks and feels this good on wrists I've got a seven inch wrist which is pretty much average and it is just incredible hardly feels like you're wearing a watch at all it is so well balanced 133 grams so it's not light but it carries its weight magnificently that oyster case is just curved in all the right places great taper on the bracelet I know some youtubers would be popping this one on a NATO strap I think that's the last thing I would do bracelet for life with the Explorer there's a proper overhead shot still very legible in spite of the lack of AR on the crystal I know some guys will be thinking r39 it's a bit too small for me part of the appeal of this watch is that perfect size it's so discreet this one you can wear this all day long and people won't be pointing at your wrists shouting Rolex Rolex and inviting the muggers I think it is discreet in a way that a lot of the alternative options from the Rolex catalogue aren't that's one of the reasons why I love it so much feel so good on wrist you've got a little bit of curvature from the oyster mid case smooth bezel sapphire crystal all nicely integrated slides under a cuff eleven and a half mil thick just a beautiful beautiful wash to wear you can see what I mean though about the lack of ER coating on the crystal however black dial big arabic s-- nicely proportioned say of mercedes hands in this case wasn't a fan of the shorty one if I'm being honest I think this is I resolved 39 mil design of the fray that that first generation of the wasn't quite as good looking classic classic looks so let's finish with a little bit of a macro montage as I sum up my thoughts on this Rolex explorer it's kind of everything I thought and hoped it would be it is just such a beautiful elegant and refined watch that you can buy and happily enjoy for the rest of your life reliable wearable and discreet I really did like the fact that this one is very much under the radar not nearly as obvious as a Rolex Submariner if only it was at $8,700 that is a bit of a piss-take buy Rolex for a three hand stainless steel watch with no complications but as discussed once you've paid for the ticket you're on the bus for life and you're unlikely to lose money on this Explorer if you do keep one long-term so there you have it another stunning Rolex that is eye watering lis expensive to purchase but once you do have it on your wrist it will serve you for a lifetime and probably will end up being worth more than the price you paid for it there aren't too many watches on today's market that you can see that about a sorely tempting proposition for me personally it's just about the right size it's just about the right way it's super comfortable and it is ultra discreet in a way that a lot of the other Rolex is from the catalog are not will I be buying one myself anytime soon why would I bother buying it when I can borrow it off mr. eggs thanks for watching I'll see you in the next one you
