Can You Spot The Fake Rolex Submariner?

hello and welcome to just one more watch if this is your first time here my name is Jody I love watches but no fake watches and I would love it if you would subscribe to the channel by hitting the big button that says subscribe on it now there are plenty of videos on YouTube helping you discern between a fake Rolex a replica and an original the real deal this is not going to be another one of those videos I managed to get my hands on a top-end replica Submariner and two genuine submariners and I'm gonna do something different today I'm gonna flip that around and I'm gonna ask you can you spot the difference between the fake and the original Rolexes it is not as easy as it sounds believe me this is a very very good copy I'll explain where I got it from towards the end of the video so I've got a note a sub a date sub and a two-tone sub one of them's a fakie two of them are genuine by the way I do not condone or recommend fake watches to you I do so many reviews of homogeneous on this channel if you want something that looks and feels like a row like sub Manor go buy a homage don't buy a fake cuz one day somebody will come along and call you out on it and you'll look like a total dick so I'm not gonna get the micro lens out quite yet I'm gonna show you three areas where I think the replica comes terrifyingly frighteningly close to the real thing then I'm gonna show you which one is the fake then I'm gonna show you three ways that I think it is much easier to discern between a fake and a genuine if someone you know rocks up one day wearing on a rolex submariner that you suspect is a little bit fishy this may well help you determine whether it is a fake or not alright let's flip the camera and get on with it one genuine Rolex travel pouch containing three watches that look a lot like the Rolex Submariner two of them are actually Rolex Submariner Zoar one of them is our 600 u.s. dollar replica so a not inconsiderable song to spend on that is worthless can you spot the fake before I let you know which one it is so like I said three areas where I think this replica is frighteningly close then I'm going to tell you which one it is and then three areas where I think it is easy it is not easy but easy are to pick between the top-end replica and the real deal so the first area where I think the replica gets frightening ly close is the glide lock clasp mechanism if you haven't used one of these before they are our work of utter genius by Rolex on-the-fly adjustment very nice stamping with Rolex Geneva excetera there and on-the-fly adjustment like I said you can tweak this one while you're wearing it over the course of a day this is the no date but is it the real or is it the wrap all three of these watches have seen quite a bit of use hence the scratching and scuffing don't worry about that you're looking at some of the details whether they've got the same Rolex markings generic centrist stainless whether the glide locks work as smoothly on one watch as it does on the other watches this one is the date is it the rep or is the two-tone the rep does that little coronet look slightly off to you is your mind playing tricks on you already is there a discernible look and feel to the printing perhaps they sound a little different is there a difference to the action when I move them back and forth remarkably similar really I will be struggling to pick between them no day date to tone let's call macro and have a look at those Coronets then see if we can find the finer details there perhaps same sequence then no date first then the date then the two-tone that was no day day and two-tone they really do look almost indistinguishable do you think you've got it harder than you thought perhaps all right I'm gonna cheat a little bit I'm gonna bring in a bit of specialized equipment I'm gonna bring in a time graphic not necessarily something you'll have access to especially not if your mate does bring in that fishy Submariner this is going to be easy right surely the $600 we'll have a dog ruff unreliable and inaccurate movement in the back of it oh let's find out so is it the no date land running at plus two seconds per day with a reasonable amplitude but a fairly large eat error remember these things are supposed to run plus on minus two seconds per day chased by Rolex that is the claim that they made or is the snake in the grass today the date model zero seconds per day variance a lot less beat error than the no date or perhaps the two-tone is the fake to be honest all of these time graphic scores are terrifyingly similar looks like we got no help from the time graphic let's try the micro lens to see if we can pick the fake by looking at the printing on the dial here's the no date model obviously because it doesn't feature the word date on it sadly nobody's made any spelling mistakes today nope relative Sarah no meters either to give the game away here's the date model and then moving on we have the two-tone model all nice crisply printed against the black dial back to the note date is there any discernible difference we can see any misshapen prongs on the Coronet from the date model there or perhaps the index isn't quite aligned without central prong on the two-tone which one is the fake all right then which one is it the pressure is on if you said that no date was the fake because of that high B error on the ten Grapher you'd be wrong it is in fact the date model that is the rep today I was terrified when I put it on the time graph for a couple of weeks ago I was expecting there to be rough and inaccurate but it's not it is arguably just as accurate as the other two much more expensive real Rolexes today the clasp the bracelet that overall fit and finish of the watch is frightening ly good when compared to the originals and by and large the printing on the dial doesn't give the game away either I think if you do go macro with these watches you can see rough edges on the hands and the indices on the fake one that simply don't exist on the genuine Rolex but not everyone has a macro lens to hand or a tiny Brava I appreciate so next up I'm going to you three areas where I think it is much easier to pick the fake from the originals even if you don't happen to have one or two real submariners to hand and the first area is the Basel perhaps you'll notice that earlier on this one doesn't quite line up the pencil action is an awful it's nice and sneaky and high-pitched but there's a little bit of backplate and there's a little bit of shake you probably won't be able to pick it up on the camera but I can feel it and I think that when you when it comes to picking the fake having a real play with these watches feeling them in your hand is probably the best way to pick a fake one from a real one the bezel action on the real Rolex is flawless by comparison noticeably higher pitched in terms of the click no backplate no bounce certainly no shake and rattle laterally anyway another easy way you can tell the replica from a real Rolex is the loom Rolex is chroma light is outstanding kind of like be gw9 in that it gives you that nice ice blue glow but it lasts and it lasts and it lasts as you can see here not only does the fake fall way short by comparison to the to real rollers it's actually pretty crap when it comes to loom so just get your mate to stand in a dark room for five minutes and then have a look at this watch and the third way I think it is fairly easy to spot the fig is to unscrew the crown and just work through the movement a little bit it doesn't feel nice it doesn't feel quality at the manual whined for example there we are it popped out a bit late that doesn't inspire confidence the manual wine feels really gritty and not all that pleasant it may have been accurate but the movement feels cheap when you're winding it and it doesn't kind of wane well the crown doesn't engage in disengage the adjustment is very very late on when you compare it to an original or any other quality watch for that matter the real roller unscrews and there's a noticeable pop it wings very nicely indeed you can feel a clicking through your fingers but you can't feel a grinding or a crunching it feels like a quality movement inside the watch and when you pull the crown out to the adjust position the hands move slowly and it takes a little bit of effort to get them to move around not like with the replica and as a little bonus three and a half ways to tell the difference between a fake and a real one I can't guarantee that this applies to all replicas but I did notice a difference in the printing and the bottom half of the dial look at the gap between the second zero in 300 and the m4 meters it is much more substantial on the replica than on either of the original watches so it's not a permit of cereno meter but they could have done with squeezing that em closer to the zero so where did I get this replica and what is gonna happen to it now well Chris from her ology house YouTube channel over in Perth Western Australia I'm sure you're already a subscriber of his in fact I'm sure you've already watched his video about this rolex submariner it has 300,000 views already he contacted me a number of months ago said he was gonna pick up one of these and I offered to share the cost of purchasing it if I could make a vid as well so I don't know where he got it please don't ask me I wouldn't tell you anyway I don't condone replica watches I believe he's going to be destroying this with some enormous ly oversized mining equipment in a future video so what is the conclusion of today's video then well it is hard but it is certainly not impossible to discern between a fake Rolex and an original $600 it looks good on the surface but once you dig a little bit deeper the finishing on the dial in hands etc is far rougher than you'd find on a much much cheaper watch so just don't do it folks there is no reason to buy one of these things buy an original bicycle by orient by a bunch of the different micro brands that I've reviewed on the channel and actually be proud of the watch on your wrist rather than ashamed of wearing a lie on your wrist thanks for watching I'll see you in the next video you

You say these things based on your current situation but you most definitely wouldn’t.

You would go about buying things similarly to how you would now but at a much higher cost with the exact same amount of care. So the way you buy a chocolate bar right now is the same way you would look at a watch being a billionaire. The price wouldn’t mean much to you and you’d purchase it without a second thought. Just as you would a chocolate bar.

E.g Billionaire - a 20k Rolex to a billionaire is 0.002% of their wealth.

Average joe (has 20k in the bank) - a 40p chocolate bar is 0.002% of your wealth.

So that 40p to you means as much as 20k to a billionaire. It simply would not be worth your time and energy to purchase a rep.

Get real. If I had millions in the bank I'd buy genuine 100%. Faster, more convenient, better buying experience cos you get a coffee and a chat as opposed to paying online and waiting on a courier. Also servicing is easier, you don't have to go out of your way to find a rep-friendly watchsmith. Just take it to where you bought it and they'll take care of everything, simple as that. Just wait on a phone call.

Oh, but what about high demand stuff that isn't kept in stock? You can't just walk into a store and buy a sub so surely you'd buy reps of shit like that!! Wrong. If money was no object, I'd have no problem paying the higher grey market price. If you want a ceramic sub, GMT or Daytona etc for example, there are places you can go and buy them right now if you don't mind spending over twice the list price.

Money buys convenience.

If you had 6 zeroes added to your bank balance, you wouldn't think twice about it. If you had a choice between paying £20 and having something right now, everything taken care of for you, or paying £2 and having to go through the tedious QC process and waiting on shipping, then being on your own more or less after that, you'd be an idiot not to spend the 20... especially considering it's still fuck all money. Don't kid yourself.

The thing is...

Rolexs are known to be faked. That's why I'd never wear a rep Rolex again, or even a gen Rolex. People know the Rolex brand, they know its expensive and they know they are always copied because they cost so much. I had a rep Rolex and everyone said how can you afford a Rolex, it must be a fake. They should keep their opinions to themselves but my other reps get no attention. I get told, ohhh, that's a nice watch. I tell them what it is and that it's a replica. It's more of a conversion than it would be with a gen watch.

Other brands like hublot, tag, omega, breitling etc are less well known to the general public.

So to summarize: An average human being with limited knowledge (if that) will never be able to pick fake Rolex from genuine Rolex.

No one carries macro lens in their pocket 24/7. No one will let you fiddle with bezel trying to pull it, twist it on their Rolex. And lastly no one will stand in dark room for 5 minutes alone with you to check on lume.

Enjoy the reps. Best decision I ever made to enjoy high quality watches at tenth of the price.
