hello my wonderful friends welcome back to another episode where you'll hear stories about people saying that they know the owner when they don't and the stories are super embarrassing guys it's been a while since i've done an episode like this and today i've got some lovely cringy stories for you of people lying to employees to try to get what they want and the last story in this episode is a super wholesome one i do hope you stay for the stories today and hit that subscribe button for future stories let's dive in so a few weeks ago i was serving a lady and her son they had been perfectly pleasant the whole time and i didn't see a reason for them to be upset i gave them their order and when i went back a few minutes later to check up on them this lady's like um my plate doesn't look pretty and your service has been terrible i said i'm so sorry you feel that way we can remake your order if you'd like and she responded no that's okay i don't really care meanwhile her kid has wiped his plate clean and has even started to eat some of hers when the time comes to give her the check she says can i have a refund for the food because it looked disgusting your service was bad and i didn't even eat any food i told her that i'll go ask my manager if i can get a refund because i'm not totally sure i go ask my manager who's really more of a shift lead my manager gets on the phone with the owners to see if we can give the lady a refund meanwhile i go back out and before i can get a word out she says by the way i know the owner and he's going to be very disappointed to hear about this experience i just take it and apologize again and immediately go back to my manager and tell him that the lady says she knows the owner on the phone with our owner my manager asked if he knows this lady and he checks the cameras and says i've never seen this woman in my life when i go back out and start to tell the lady that we're talking to the owner she says you know what forget it i'm leaving pretty sure she was trying to get free food pretty sure she was trying to get free food she absolutely was trying to get free food and she did get free food opie never mentioned that she paid she just left so i've had this happen to me so many times when i worked at quiznos making sandwiches guys people would eat their whole sub and then complain that the bread was too burnt or they'd finish it and then claim we forgot to put the hot peppers into them and we never once gave a refund to anybody but they sure did try a lot they tried a lot from 1993 to 2008 my husband and i owned a hobby shop outside of atlanta georgia i had a full-time job elsewhere and hubs ran the shop but once in a while i would come in to help ring up customers one morning a woman comes in and is looking at the various games workshop figures and box sets these figures we sell are not cheap by any means and figurines are rarely discounted she approaches the counter to check out and as i'm bringing her up she rather rudely tells me that she typically gets a 50 discount as she happens to be the owner's wife i said really wow how long have you been married to him the lying customer says oh just a few months we recently got married and i said really well damn it's a pleasure to meet you since i'm his wife and the one he comes home to every night for the past decade and not you do you still want this figure packed or not because you're not getting a discount the lying customer stood there like a fish out of water i set the figure pack under the counter and told her to get out of my shop and to never come back after she laughed i called my hubs to tell him about it and he was speechless some people will try anything to get something for nothing opie should have totally played with her some more and had some fun how embarrassing to pull a stunt like this and get caught i can't believe some people actually do this husband's a bit much she's gotta tone it down a little in the next store she tries it in maybe say she's the cousin or something i don't know i host at a very popular small fine dining restaurant during the holidays we are strictly reservation only and we're typically completely booked for at least two weeks in advance a lot of people in town know this and often try to lie their way into getting a table last minute so on christmas eve a gentleman comes in and immediately hovers over my podium and stares at the guest list which is a huge sign that he doesn't have a reservation as people will try to do this and read off a random name from the list i cover the list before he can read it and ask his name for the reservation this is the conversation the guy says uh yeah we have a reservation for four under joseph i replied i'm sorry we don't have that on here could it be under something else he replied no it's definitely under joseph i called and made the reservation two days ago i told him oh you must be mistaken we're completely booked up since the beginning of december i may be able to squeeze you in but not for at least another hour or so the guy now agitated says definitely not i come here for dinner all the time i booked it with the owner's wife they know me very well me now laughing says well now i know you don't have a reservation the owner and his wife have been traveling in europe for two weeks now and won't be back until after the new year i've worked here for years and i don't recognize you now would you like that table at 8 30 or not and he leaves without saying another word why do people try telling the staff who obviously doesn't recognize them that they're here all the time such a stupid thing to lie about if we could answer that question there wouldn't be any embarrassing stories being shared for our entertainment i work at an extended stay hotel that offers 30 night stays at a fixed price since i was the only front desk assistant on at the time my gm stayed on desk with me so we can chat and catch up and that's when the first call came in let's call him weasel i said thank you for calling hotel how may i help you weasel says hi how much are your sweets for one month oh they're 105 a night tax exempt he replied why so high well we offer free breakfast there's a full kitchen in the rooms free high speed internet free parking and we're walking distance to the mall he then tells me well where i'm staying it's only 89 a night and offers the same thing i told him i'm sorry but that's what sales set our prices to and asked me if he would like me to transfer him to work out a deal he then hangs up on me about 10 minutes later he calls again and since i'm helping a guest my gm answers the phone and says good morning how may i help you today hi i'd like to book a 30 night stay for the 89 dollar rate gm tells him that we do not offer that price and ours is 105 the weasel then says the woman i talked to before said it wouldn't be a problem the gm tells him that he was standing there the entire time and that i did not offer that price weasel says well i can stay at my hotel for 89 but they're sold out for the next month i booked too late cut me a deal the gm responds out of respect i can go as low as 99 but not 89 weasel then tells him my wife and i met the owner of your hotel in florida one night and he bought us a round of drinks and when we asked the bartender who that guy was he said it was frank frank then came over and chatted with us for three hours about putting people first and his commitment to guest services you need to honor this 89 a night that your competitor's offering i'm writing him a letter about never staying at your hotels again and he hangs up the owner of our hotel's name isn't frank it's jason and for the rest of my shift we mocked him in the highest voices we could guys i've said it once and i'll say it again if you're gonna say you know the owner and you give a name at least make sure it's the right name so you don't seem like a fool and get mocked after you hang up so this actually happened a few years ago my daughter reminded me about it recently i have friends that we'll call j and d j and d are old school country folk with old fashioned down home values they're not poor but save money and are frugal so j and d were heading home one night on a lonely bit of highway in the middle of nowhere when they see a car on the side of the road they stop to offer assistance jay is a bit of a shade tree mechanic and takes a look and the car had a cracked radiator hose and had overheated while patching it up they start yakking about this and that jay and d were celebrating their 25th anniversary in a few days and were excited about going into town and eating at their favorite restaurant which is a certain colored lobster their new friend explains that he was in town to check on a restaurant he owned and would love to host their anniversary dinner at his restaurant as a thank you jay and you try to decline but the guy isn't having it he asked them to meet him tomorrow night at the restaurant at 6 p.m and gives them his card j and d go home and tell the story to their daughter who looks at the card and realized that the guy was a famous actor who co-owned a very expensive restaurant downtown j and d dress up in their country folks finest and hop into their truck now their truck purrs like a kitten but has been around it was at least 10 years old and had been used as a truck but was kept clean they pull up in front of the fancy restaurant and a valley comes to open the truck door and hands them a ticket and everything seems fine they walk into the restaurant and this is where things get interesting they walk up to the host stand and the host tells them that they only accept applications on certain days and that they were currently fully staffed jay and you are confused and explained to the host that they were here for dinner the host makes a point to look them up and down scoffs and then asked if they realize dinner is a minimum 100 per person jay pulls out the card and hands it to the host attempting to explain that he was invited by the owner and that he met the owner and he knows him the host laughs and says something like i don't know how you got this but you're not welcome here and you need to leave jay and d don't want to cause a scene and decided to go while they're waiting at the valet the owner shows up and asked if they enjoy dinner and apologize for running late jnd don't want to get anyone in trouble and try to mumble some excuse but the owner realized that this wasn't the same bubbly friendly couple from last night and knows something's up he sees that something's wrong and escorts them in for dinner the host looks shocked to see them back but doesn't say anything in front of the owner who personally seats them before disappearing jnd ordered drinks but they said they felt so out of place that they just wanted to leave soon the owner returns and asked the couple what happened not wanting to get anyone in trouble they try to explain that it was a simple misunderstanding but he had already gone to review the cctv it turns out one of the valets had seen their truck and had come in to warn the host because everyone knew the owner was due in and had been told to make the best possible impression the owner asked for the valet and the host he asked them both about the incident and warned them that he had already watched the tapes they gave a bunch of excuses and apologies and the owner asked if they would treat his parents that way he never did call them his parents but he kind of implied it j and d are shocked but they play along with their precious little boy going over the top and having a blast dinner is saved and j and d end up having the time of their lives being fond over by the staff and acting out with their son the owner ends up becoming fast friends with jnd and invite them to dinner whenever he's in town they were finally able to return the favor and had him over for dinner which almost gave their daughter a heart attack as for the valet and host neither were fired but the owner made the entire restaurant undergo retraining and warned that he'd better not have similar complaints from other relatives in the area leaving them to always treat customers like family what an incredibly wholesome story i need to know who this famous actor is and it actually seems like something keanu reeves would do that very very nice man does anybody know if he owns any restaurants and that my friends brings us to another end of
