- This keyboard is literally the cheapest keyboard we could find it. Listen to it's anti ASMR. Let's go make it better. This keyboard is a hot mess, so we're going to need
some replacement parts. We're here at our box of goodies. It's weird to see all this
stuff that we've accumulated. Starting to feel a little
bit like a hoarder here. Thinking of painting on the top keys blue. So maybe we can find some key caps that might fit that a little bit better. Not black. Definitely not pink. These are not key caps. What do you think? This might not be bad? No, these are better. I think we'll do these. Narrowed it down to these two. This one is really expensive. These are a little cheaper. We might go with the cheaper option here. Let's do these. We'll do these. On to switches. Who will be our (demon
voice) sacrificial lamb. I'm thinking something cheap. Do we want something silent? We should do these? These are the Gateron Aliaz switches. We'll do these. I think we'll do these. We're going to have to solder these in, so they're never coming back out. Yeah, we'll do these. We'll do these. Now what about our lubing? Get some dielectric grease. What kind of lube should we use? Hmm. Is this worth 205 G0? Yeah. Yeah, it is. We'll use some normal
packing foam that we find in the garage, or something like that. Now that we got everything we need, we're going to go open up this thing and really see what we're working with. It might be a disaster. Let's go. So this keyboard really needs work. It's hollow. It's scratchy. It's blue. Be careful. First thing we need to do
is open up this keyboard. Try and be real careful so
that we don't break anything because this thing is a piece of (bleep) Gotta bleep that. But let's take those keyboard apart. We need a tool kit. Where's the tool kit? Let's go get the tool kit. First thing is probably the
key caps have gotta come off. So here we go. Now that all these key caps are off, we're going to use our
handy-dandy tool kit (angelic vocals) to take off this plate. We got a really, really small screwdriver. Okay. Ooh. Ta-dah! We've got a pretty typical
plastic looking case. I'm not sure how we, oh,
we just pull this out. We've got a really plastic case. This should just slide out. Hopefully they work still when we're done. Now that we're done with this, it's time to desolder these switches. Luckily for me, this just
showed up in the mail. (mimics drill noises) Okay, let's go. (whispering) Bye. All right, we're desoldering right now. Make sure it's hot. We're done desoldering. We've got a super flimsy
plastic plate here. And here is our PCB. It looks pretty fancy, sort of gold, but in reality, it's not good. It's three pin. It's three pin. And these, these are five pins. So we'll have to put some
clippers to these switches, get rid of these legs. This is what came out of our PCB, these Jixian switches. We'll see what build we can
ruin with these later on. One's never enough.
(dramatic music) Let's start lubing. Okay, we're going to clip these legs. Plop. Plop. We're lubing the switch. Lube everywhere. Now for our precious stem, that we will not lube the legs of because (cooing noise) Okay. Let's close it A hundred more to go. Oh, we're done lubing our switches. Before we solder those back in we have to take care of these
stabilizers that we have here. We've got some extra ones. They're plate mounted. They will fit, hopefully. Our dielectric grease. Our flesh cutters. and our paintbrush. So let's just get this started. It's harder than I thought it'd be. Why are they stuck in here? So stupid. (laughing) They're stuck. Okay, we'll worry about
the space bar last. I'm sweating. I'm sweating taking these out. So stupid. So dumb. I'm not sure if these new ones will fit. Let's try it anyways. Old stabilizer, new stabilizer. It fits. (heavenly chorus) It fits. I'm pretty sure I cut my- (groans) I cut myself. I'm just going to clip them. All of our legs are cut. Got eight of them. Housing. Lube. Lube plus housing. Putting it back in. Add a bunch of that. And now we put it back in. Eww! Ewww! I touched the outside of the bag. Let's start with the space bar. What if it doesn't fit for real? It should fit. Oh, got one. The fit is extra tight. Okay, I'm done. I'm tired. Stabilizer number two. (unenthusiastic yay) Yay. I said there were only four stabilizers. There's five. I gotta clip more stabilizers. Oh, why did I count it wrong? Oh, that one was easy. Co-operative. Oh, okay. Our stabilizers are installed. Ooh. Sounds pretty good. Wait. Something has happened. We fixed these stabilizers. Honestly, I'm not sure if
they'll work a hundred percent. But it will be okay. Everything will be okay. Everything will be okay. I'm going to put all these switches in and then we'll go outside to solder. Okay. We're ready to solder! ("Theme from Psycho") We a got a hot mess going on. So funny. Ow. All right. We're outside. We're ready to solder. It's done! I looks okay. Until I turn it around
and then it looks bad. And now it's seven a mess with that case. Probably be doing some spray painting. Mmm, that's better. This is my first time
spray painting anything. We had to watch a video from TaeKeyboards maybe four or five times. Here I am spraying the case with primer. And you would think primer is like clear. Like you put on nails and it's clear. But no, it's gray. And it already looks pretty
good being gray already. So primer's supposed to help
things stick well together. I did about two coats on each side, waited five minutes between each coat, and here it is. Looks great. And there were some clumps and bumps here, so I had to sand it. Sprits, sprits, sprits, sprit. Sand, sand, sand, sand. Ooh yeah. And I'm probably standing too much here. Here we got some ink blue spray paint. Ink blue just reminds me of
those Gateron blue ink switches. And it looked pretty bad at first. You know, because sometimes I
don't know how to spray paint. Like now I. What. What am I doing? What am I doing? There was a lot of wind these few days. That's a really awkward flip. But doing the bottom first
allows you to flip it over without really worrying
about messing it up. And here it is. Looking real splotchy. Being really aggressive with it. But the end product looked pretty good, unless you shine it in a
certain amount of light, then it looks bad. So this case is very hollow. It definitely needed foam. You can see how precise I'm
being with the Sharpie marker. Just cutting right on the line or not. Definitely not cutting
on that line very well. Oh, what am I doing? Go back to grade school. So the best thing about this shelf liner is that it has holes, and you just poke the
holes through the holes. What? You poke the stems through
the holes and tad-dah! It fits perfectly. Let's put this thing back
in and pray it works. Bloop. Cool. Yep. There it is. Close this case up and you can see the
Frankenstein almagamation of Aliaz switches and
Jixion blue switches. Introducing the iFixit toolkit. Once again, put everything back together. Put all the screws back together. And because the case was a little hollow, it just didn't sit very well. So i had to loosen some of them. Let's put those feet back on. They fit quite nice. And you know, the black and
blue thing is pretty good. Be careful with those feet though, because I did not adhere
any super glue to it. And time to put on key caps. Oh, good job me, putting
on key caps so quickly. Some of you said that I could
just erase this logo off. And I tried. And it's not, it's just not working. I'm missing two key caps. So what do I do? I take it from the original key caps set. That looks really ugly. What am I doing? Is this the final reveal? The back looks good. The front looks good. The RGB looks quite nice, actually. Really nice. Everything is really nice. It sounds wonderful. But what are those? Oh, we got another key cap set, yes! Oh, but that, oh, it just stares into my soul. And we'll do that sound test right now. Ooh. Oh.
