think about everything you have ever learned about building habits I guarantee you a lot of the time the number one rule is start small and use the 1% Improvement rule so what happens if we go against that advice I wanted to challenge myself for a week trying 10 new healthy habits each day to see what effects they have from meditation to bone broth to ice rolling to reading here is what I found [Music] good morning welcome to day one of this challenge it's half six we're going to get ready for the gym I'm feeling good first habit getting up before 7:00 a.m. every morning though I love an early morning I love how it makes me feel I like that feeling of like you're getting ahead of the day already it allows me time to really focus on me fit time to work out all of that before I start work but what I don't tend to share is how inconsistent I am with getting up at the same time even when I had a 95 job I would maybe get up at 6:00 to work out like a couple times a week and then the rest i' would sleep in until I absolutely had to get up something about being consistent with my sleep schedule is so difficult but 7:00 a.m. feels like a very manageable [Music] time got my little ag1 for vitamins to take that off honestly this morning like isn't too different from my regular routine but it's what I'm going to do now which I kind of ideally would want to do it very first thing before the gym but when we get up it's like I just go to the gym straight away so also like I'm saying this morning hasn't been too different but it's the doing this every day that will feel different Monday morning though we have the Monday motivation and also really pretty sunrise this morning which helps okay so bone broth this is something I like to have throughout the winter I've been trying to have bone broth more just because like you're curving something really warm and before I have coffee I know it's like packed with different nutrients and also another big reason is because I think it's packed with like amino acids and just genuinely really good for your gut health honestly I maybe have it like once every 2 weeks not often this little set up I've got my bone broth heated up here and I've just opened up my notion planner so that I can do a little bit of journaling sometimes I just prefer digal [Music] journaling okay this is the most basic breakfast with vix fruit and honey it tastes so good and it takes me like no time at all I'm in such a good mood this morning I don't know I mean I feel like this really sunny pretty day is helping but also just like all the little steps that I took this morning the little new habits that I know they all make a difference and I know I normally tell myself like oh I don't have time to do all those things on every day but I really do because I realize it replaces me checking like Instagram in the morning or something and a lot of these little things take like 5 minutes let's begin the work day okay so like I said most of my habits are 4 in the morning and then I have a few for the end of my day but there is one that I want to try during my workday last year I got into reading some points in the year and then I didn't and I'd fall off track I really am trying to get back more into reading cuz I do find it to be like one of the best downtime unwind activities I can do oh I'm like halfway through this book right now I'm just keeping it on my desk and when I wanted to take breaks where I would normally just like scroll and then I don't really feel that well rested or my mind doesn't feel that well rested instead I'm going that's what's happening this morning I think I've checked off the healthy habits I got up at like half 5 cuz I get up earlier so I have time to film I did my vitamins I didn't find my stretch and now we're at the gym so I'm going to get some exercise in but obviously like it's easy to tickle those things when I'm filming for this video so yeah but I'll I'll obviously have inserted all those clips even though you would have already seen them from my video Yeah off to the gym I'm all alone today which I'm like definitely worse in the gym when I don't have will but it's okay we're going to make two this morning didn't feel like too much of a struggle obviously I had the big motivator of filming my morning routine but anyway let's talk about habit 2 ice rolling my face this is a very new habit to me I've only started doing it recently and I know a lot of people do it because of puffiness or like to tighten pores honestly what I was finding that I liked most about it was how great the cold sensation was for waking me up first thing this is a very low effort habit that I really felt made a difference and benefited my morning good evening I like I said like I warned you I wasn't going to Vlog today cuz I'm very tired doing a morning routine like taks out of me for the day and just between me and you it does take me like all day to film liar liar yeah but you got to set up all the shots it's like my big morning routine like at the start of the year I always want to make it better than the year before and I put pressure on myself and I just want to be as like C as I can so I have fun today today was a really good day um and I ticked off all the little habits naturally this evening we're chilling and it feels very deserved a little bit late but yeah making some sea bass hello fresh Seas so tonight I am determined to do the 1 hour zero fil before bed like literally put it on do not disturb on sleep mode pop on charge ignore it so I'm going to try that cuz didn't happen last night but my mind was going and I was like droing down things for filming today hopefully tonight will be more successful it's 20 to9 so I'm going to give it like 20 minutes or so basically until I can no longer keep my eyes open with this book and I am really making progress with this book I like have just this bit left it's actually mad like I don't feel like I just haven't been able to put this down I've just been reading a little bit each day which I know sounds obvious like if you're someone who's a reader and you read you read regularly then yeah duh but for me I will go months without reading a book cuz I just like build it up as such a chore to get through a book but it really doesn't have to be so wake me up at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow to the [Music] radio [Music] [Applause] [Music] I actually look forward to this step now cuz these earlier mornings it helps actually wake me up I guess a similar fact to like having coar slashing your face or having cold shower I mean not the same as a cold shower that's something I I'm too scared to do definitely more sleepy today but we have each other to motivate each other if one of us goes no I'm not getting up then it's really hard for the other one to get up facial contagion that's it yeah so we're off to the gym we're going to have a pool right pool pool pool day not pool Co today not going swimming so another one of my daily habits is movement as you can see this could be a walk a run gym workout class I didn't want to limit myself to just the gym but incorporating movement into my morning routine I feel like has genuinely Chang my life just what it does for my mood I feel it helps with reducing stress levels throughout the day and all I want to do with this is be more consistent I also find since I work from home it ensures that I do get out not just to walk the dog it's another way of getting me out my flat a bit more which I'm learning to really appreciate I chose journaling as another habit mostly because I wanted to see the effects of doing it every day I'm someone who maybe journals once a week never have been consistent with it but I know starting a day with gratitude can just really put things into perspective so I wanted to try it haveit I haven't done today which I've been doing in the morning either 5 minute stretch or 5 minute meditation meditation is something I oh I like I've done it a handful of times I absolutely get the benefits but I just don't know if it works for me but at the same time like I never do it consistently I'll do it like once a blue moon literally maybe like twice a year so no wonder I like it just feels like I'm sitting in silence and I told myself like 5 minute stretch or meditation because I know I don't do either of those things every single day so this morning I didn't stretch in the gym we're going to do a little 5 minutes meditation I'm liter just going to go on YouTube I've done this one before I remember I kind of liked it find steps like this it's like right now I just want to get changed and dive into my workday like normally if I wasn't filming this video I would not make time for this but I do feel like it's going to help me start the day off more productively hopefully my mind is just going to feel clearer so let's begin welcome to a guided meditation take three deep breaths with an open mouth out [Music] I really didn't want to do that it is just 5 minutes that's dumb this is such a sad looking lunch but I wanted something that was like very nourishing definitely needs some sauce I've been edting all day honestly sometimes even though like days like this can be a little isolating in general they are like my favorite work days where I just sit down at my computer and be creative get lost in the world of editing that's my favorite part of what I do but even though I was tired this morning I do kind of feel a lot more focused this week with tasks and just like getting things done faster procrastinating last and I swear it probably stems from every single Morning has been consistent with my habits and it's been little things that just put me in a good mood like that's all it is your morning routine should be something that serves you something that actually starts your day off right I haven't really been going on my phone to scroll my aim is definitely to finish this by the end of the week okay today has just been a super long one it's now 8:00 I don't normally work until 8 like one will gets home from work I definitely like to shut my laptop if I can but because yeah I don't know what I was thinking assuming this morning routine could be edited in one day I it's never Tak me one day to edit like this style of video so it's going live tomorrow which is okay so I'll use tomorrow morning to finish up honestly this has been sitting here but I haven't read and that's not to say I haven't scrolled either so I guess that habit gets a bit of across today thing is like if I'm to pick up a book that's me really in my brain being like Oh I'm stepping away like I'm taking a break whereas going on my phone sometimes it's like to go on my phone for something related to work a video on my phone I need and then I end up getting distracted or it's like quick hit of dopamine this has just not been as easy as it sounds in practice replacing reading with scrolling which obviously results in you going like once a month never being consistent start to fall in love with what it felt like to be do my evening skin care for this part of my evening I'm realizing I would normally have YouTube on podcast some sort of stimulation but actually is quite nice just having the peaceful like moments to yourself you want to come hang out okay this book is not like relaxing Colleen Hoover does disclaim that to be honest I don't mind a bit of grassier storytelling this one's a lot darker than our other books I'm already thinking about how I am going to be able to make this video visually interesting for you guys to watch I'm thinking about like having to do one hell of a voiceover or something because these clips I'm sure are all getting a little bit repetitive but I want to talk about that because the reality of habit building is that it isn't glamorous and it is boring yeah that's what I'm feeling this week but I hope it's interesting to still come along on this challenge of taking on a few more habits than you should do when you're actually trying to take on some new habits if that makes any sense you can tell I'm tired alarm set for a.m. tomor to good [Music] night [Music] sh [Music] good morning I'm going to use this as my little mic cuz I know it's going to be really loud out here but I was so close to not waking up this morning honestly my body just feels like it needs a bit of a lion but I know 7 a.m. is like a good time for me where I'm not jeopardizing on sleep like I can get over that time and function well I like opened my eyes and I saw the sun look like this and so that's what got me out of bed and somehow ended up on this balcony stretching even though it's absolutely freezing it's really pretty and I knew I knew I wanted like this shot yeah I'm not going to go to the gym tday just I might do a little jog later little at home workout not [Music] sure [Music] I've like not filmed at all today today's Thursday time is 20 to 11: so obviously I already passed my bedtime not being off my phone I didn't work out today did a b walking but I had a class this evening which was so good was so good to get out the house but one of those days where it's just [Music] non-stop definitely very tired today I got this ice rolling yesterday cuz in all see the other one bro on me I do prefer this one feel like this is the one I see everyone [Music] use your [Music] day okay we did it and I wanted to take a moment before this video ends to share just my Reflections my little conclusion whenever I do one of these weekly challenge videos this was a fun experiment yes it goes against all the advice we hear when it comes to devel veloping new habits how you should kind of approach the 1% rule get 1% better each day there has been a change this month that I didn't mention in this video which I do think helped and that is the fact that I'm actually doing dry January right now if you've never heard of that basically just means that I am not drinking in January I'm someone who I will always have a little drink at the weekend not drinking just not having alcohol in my system does help me feel generally better and I think it helped me take care of myself a bit more this week I don't know just being a bit more wary of like the little healthy habits and rituals I do every day I think when I am drinking at the weekend it encourages me to just fall off track with all habits and I'll tell myself like oh it's the weekend I don't need to bother but then come Monday I find it hard to like get back on track and a big thing I've noticed is working out I think it's been way easier to be consistent with my workout schedule feeling better in the gym feeling a bit stronger so yes even though I didn't film the weekend as part of this video I did fin when it came to the weekend cuz I'm now filming filming this the following week so when it came to the weekend I still wanted to keep up with like having my AG one in the morning not completely throwing off my sleeping schedule which I normally would do okay I want to talk about the top three habits from this week my favorite ones the ones that I feel have served me the most this week I don't think it's going to be surprise I've spoken about it but the 1 hour window before bedtime where I just stayed off my phone popped on sleep mode an hour earlier than I Norm would and just left it oh my god did that make a difference that was a new habit that's something I've never really practiced before properly definitely want to keep that up I found my sleep was a bit better like I genuinely was falling asleep a little bit faster reading okay I know I'm going to feel my best self when I'm reading and you know what's funny this week I didn't even feel like I was reading all the time but I somehow managed to finish half of a book for a lot of people that's not that impressive for me that's a huge accomplishment I probably read like five books last year not that many something I've wanted to improve about myself for ages and this week just allowed for way more reading time I will be honest the having my uh book on my desk whilst working during the day I don't know if that habit really worked for me but in the evenings yes getting rid of this and like replacing my screen time with reading time made such a difference and like I said I finished half a book something I will say is I think I want to try just not have my phone on my desk when I'm working I'd love to give that a go I'm swear I actually read a comment from one of you guys suggesting that and then lastly it has to be the waking up at a similar time and going to bed at a similar time the waking up at 7 or before 7 every single day listen 7 I know for me is my sweet spot and especially if I'm going to bed before half1 I'm getting enough sleep getting up at 7 means I am not going to be drained it does leave me enough time to do my morning routine and have all these little healthy habits that I know are going to make me feel my best setting myself this challenge was interesting but it was super fun actually this week and it felt good to hold myself accountable oh little shout out to the ice rolling cuz that was more just for fun and to feel like one of those Pinterest girlies but ice rolling my face in the morning takes like no time and helps me actually wake up so I really enjoyed that one I really hope this motivated you maybe you want to try a new habit I will say please remember when it comes to building habits don't do this 10 new habits a week challenge but maybe this video will give you inspiration for a new habit you want to try a habit you think will actually make a difference in your life I do also want to say life gets in the way Thursday I had that
