yep I did it again I bought another car but I mean look at it how could you not this is my new to me 2009 BMW 335I it is a six-speed manual one-owner history low mileage rear wheeel drive no eye drive and a beautiful blackon red color package now this 335 has a twin turbo inline six with 300 horsepower this thing is crazy this thing is amazing it's all you could hope for in an E90 e92 bmw3 series let's check it out so this generation of bmw3 Series right this is the 2006 to 2012 kind of generation the E90 e92 uh e91 you had all these options now these are revered as some of the best driving cars ever made in the entire world I'm not just talking BMW I'm just talking one of the best driving cars period why is that well let me give you a few factors that go into this first of all one of the biggest factors is this engine this inline 6-cylinder BMW engine is known as one of the most smoothest responsive uh py powerful engines ever available in the market I mean journalists ever since I was a kid when I saw reviews of these cars back when they were new even then journalists called these six-cylinders inline six is the best engine available period they were compared to things like the Alpha Romeo buso engines all these you know beautiful characteristic uh very responsive very beautiful engine so this is no exception then in 2007 or 8 BMW comes out and they twin turbo their well- revered inline six two turbos they rais it about raise it by about like 50 horsepower so now these cars are making like 300 horsepower just straight out of the factory and the internals of these engines are very welld designed uh very strong people bring these cars up to like 7 800 horsepower with no issues um these are bulletproof these are known as like the modern day Supras I mean you can build these cars out luckily mine is stock so it's a nice blank canvas I have if I want to do something to it which is another thing that's rare to find but again so the engine is awesome very responsive very performance oriented of course it has its reliability things here and there this is BMW but from my experience with the uh 3 Series I had I had a 330 before this we drove that up to like 308,000 KMS and I still sold it running I mean it wasn't the turbo engine so that was one thing but 308,000 kilm the engine was like solid I didn't really replace anything major other than just a lot of these little things that would break here and there um and another impressive thing was the clutch that thing was on its original clutch at 308,000 kmers can you believe that and that's another thing about this car this is known as having a manual transmission that doesn't have you know all those nannies all those features like Auto rev match uh it holds the revs all these things like that when you press the clutch in a E90 Generation 3 Series you press the clutch the revs drop there's nothing you are one toone with the car that's it so the engine is awesome the manual transmission this one has a six-speed which is I believe a ZF transmission that is impressive as well and on top of that the steering this steering on these generation cars were hydraulic and you know what it means by hydraulic it means that it required effort it was very direct it was very responsive and you felt really connected with the road you felt connected with the surface you felt connected with everything now everything is power assisted hydraulic steering is very rare to find I I'm not even sure how many cars on the market today come with hydraulic steering brand new so that combination of hydraulic steering very well revered inline six engine uh that's twin turboed in this case and then finally a beautiful manual transmission is what makes these cars so well revered in the Enthusiast market and on top of that you get this in a package that has is filled with luxurious features it is a German car known to be stable at high speeds it is very welld designed excellent chassis control excellent suspension overall the package is remarkable the fit and finish of course Peak German you know this car is what like 14 years old I don't hear any creeks and rattles I mean I hear a little bit of things here and there due to the age and due to some seals that I have to address but overall the build quality is excellent the design is excellent in my opinion I mean it's aged pretty well and overall it's the car that was designed in when BMW was known for Peak driving Dynamics so that's something that I believe that makes these cars really special and really remarkable and if you look at the Enthusiast market today I mean when I was looking for cars I was looking at things like Honda s2000s you know WRX STI all these impressive driving cars and a lot of these cars have just gone like crazy in terms of value Right Honda s2000s with similar mileage to this are worth like 20 to $30,000 which is crazy I mean it's a it's a great car you know nothing nothing to that it's it's a remarkable car even WRXSTI those are worth more than this a BMW a subar is worth more than a BMW um which is crazy and those are great cars too in their own you know in their own manner but this thing does not fall behind anyone in terms of competition when this came out it competed with some of the best compact Sports sedans and Sport coups in the market Infiniti with their amazing G35 G37 you know Audi with their S4 S5 Mercedes started bringing out their you know 6.3 amgs with the V8 Acura had the beautiful TL like all these impressive entrance in the market and this car still scored at the top in terms of all these driving comparisons and driving reviews so it has to have something going for it but the thing about it right now is before this thing appreciates like crazy especially low mileage examples like this uh it's a good time to get into a market in one of these right you can under 15 grand you can easily get like a low mileage example with the manual transmission very wellmaintained you can find good examples for these right they're bottomed out they haven't started their rise yet so keep a lookout if you're ready to you know look into take care of the maintenance and reliability aspects then it's a golden car trust me the driving Dynamics I mean I had that three series we drove it up into like 308,000 km and then I had to sell it so I sold it and I got into Alexus and I tried a bunch of things like Mercedes uh you know MDA I love my Miata that I have and a lot of these other cars a bunch of Acuras but I had an itch that I really missed because of that BMW there's something about driving that car when I was on the highway when I was just cruising when I was to taking it turns that I really missed that car was so well planted so dynamically different compared to anything I've driven and felt so solid and so so special that's the word I have for this car it feels so special and I missed it and I'm very glad I found this one and well that's what I feel that really makes these three Series so remarkable so let's take a look at the one I bought and I want to share with you what I like what I some things I dislike not much um and just I want to share with you my car I have right here what package why I went for this one and you know really showcased you what these cars are and hopefully if you're ever in the market I really think this would be a very impressive buy for you if you're looking for Pure driving pleasure right everything's going electrification now you have you have you know rev matching systems and manual cars you barely have any manuals available and then a lot of these cars are going hybrid and everything's becoming impressive but there's a small feeling that a lot of us driving enthusiasts have after having experienced this mid-2000 generations of cars that you're missing and this car fulfills like everything on that list that I was missing I was missing you know beautiful uh sounding uh well shifting responsive nice dynamically you know excellent packages uh this you know smooth clean lines design was remarkable it wasn't too much at the time you know this is like Peak BMW small kidney G grills you had the angeliz like this was what BMW is known for so all these things that you were enamored by in the mid 2000s this car covers like pretty much every checkbox in the list so one thing I really like about this car is the design I mean I wasn't a big fan of this E90 generation design when it first came out uh I like the E46 more but honestly this has grown on me especially if you look at those crazy BMWs with the giant kidney grills nowadays I think this looks very sleek and very attractive and very uh you know premium like let's look at the back profile I mean if you look at this side right here just look at that design you got the nice exhaust tip you got lights that are not too overly designed but at least have their own characteristics that even if you're looking from here you can kind of tell it's a BMW you've got this beautiful body line that runs along here all along the car right especially I love when I'm just setting my hand outside the door you can feel that but it's just very clean it's subtle it's subtle but it makes a big impact like look how it splits that uh the dynamic between the top half and the bottom half of the car very slippery very slippery design beautiful I've got this beautiful black uh paint job with like gray sparkles in it so looks very attractive I have these 19-in uh Wheels I just need to get the center caps for them and then side profile is nice especially with that interior that I'm going to show you in a bit that's one of my favorite features in this car you got these nice mirrors so BMW went to more Square mirrors like in a couple years at the facelift because these are kind of hard to see out of but I'm used to it now so it's all good and then what else do we got yeah I mean not much to mention it's just overall very very clean just beautiful design so let's take a look at the next thing let's take a look at the engine I'll come back to the interior so this is the heart of the car and I mean this is a heart that is known around the world as being one of the best engines ever made inline 6 BMW uh with these twin turbos was pretty much Peak BMW and it's amazing they came with 300 horsepower straight from the factory right but they could handle so much more power like you you see all these videos and see all these guys building their uh bmw3 series they go up to like 7 800 horsepower without having to change much of the internals like these things were built strong the things that the cars like the Toyota Supra and Nissan GTR are known for today I mean BMW did this in their own sense and I'm sure people are going to start to realize this soon but very capable engine and I'm glad that mine's very stalk right now so it's kind of like a blank canvas in case I do decide to do something I mean it's powerful enough as it is uh but we'll see we'll see how this goes all right now entering one of my favorite places of this car the interior first thing I want to say is this color this is what sold me honestly I mean it's such a beautiful red uh deep red interior it's like a crimson red and this is one of my favorite colors so I love it and it's in such great condition right even for 14 years old these German cars were so wellmade that you can still make like other than small things here and there you can still make these things seem like new which is not true for many cars you got this giant uh door very big in the coupe right this thing is huge you got to be careful in parking lots opening that awesome thing is pillarless you got no pillars only glass and what else do we got we got the sport steering wheel all these buttons and switches feel high quality uh I don't have the iDrive so the ey drive would have like the controller here and it would have like a hump and a screen here but mine's just plain so it looks classic in a sense if you think about it I mean down the road this thing's going to feel very different very clean very classic from all these other cars and good thing about not having a screen is it doesn't age the interior in terms of graphics and infotainment and things like that you got a beautiful sound system in this car with like two subwoofers underneath each seat I love the sound systems in these and I've got these like black headliner right it's not gray or anything like that adds more to the sporty feel of it you got the passenger seat again and I'd love to show you the rear the rear has two more seats I got winter tires sorry about that but all I want to say for the rear is that this was known as one of the most spacious twodo cars uh in the Market at the time I mean when I'm sitting in the back I feel like I have lots of space like I still have you know lots of inches in front of my knees uh in uh next to a driver's seat in front of the driver SE when I set at my own position so I think it's very spacious you can kind of go back there just pull this latch and you can climb on back I mean it looks tight from the video when you're sitting in there lots of space lots of space but yeah overall what a beautiful interior what a beautiful driving position one of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in even from my old three series I had the same sport package seats how you can tell it's sport package is if you have these adjustable thigh bolsters and if you have the steering wheel that's like this hump shape and not kind of blend it in uh so you don't have the plastic trim on the non-sports steering wheels on the sports steering wheels have this separation between the trims so that's how you can quickly tell based on the steering wheel design and these thigh bolst sters but so comfortable I love these seats um yeah so that's the interior what else I guess let's just take this car for a drive and you know have a quick chat about how it actually drives and feels but before that let me do a quick exhaust clip just for fun [Music] [Music] [Music] so we're driving the car now and one thing I want to mention is I'm not sure if I edited the exhaust clip before but in case I did you probably I heard a lot of rattling and that's something I want to talk about which is maintenance and reliability of older BMWs it is not easy I mean this car haven't haven't had it for long and I already have a lot of issues on my plate that I got to deal with one is that rattle I think it's the turbo wastegate rattle so I got to deal with that that's can be expensive I mean if I want to just replace everything it's $1,000 per turbo and there's two of them plus labor which is up there tires these things tires like crazy one of my rims already cracked for I don't know what reason barely even hit a pothole the winter tires uh one of the winter tire already has a hole in it I mean these cars eat tires like crazy I don't know what it is I mean in my old three series at one point I got so fed up of replacing tires when I sold the car I get to I had to get rid of like 15 or 16 spares from my basement that's how many extra tires I collected over the time because one tire would go bad and I'd find these uh I don't even want to think about that anymore I had too many tires for that car and then when I got this one I already got rid of all my old tires so then I had to get go looking for a new one when my rim cracked so yeah that's one thing tires turbos uh injectors I dealt with a lot of injector issues on my old BMW these things are known for having finicky injectors they can be expensive um that can get into a few hundreds maybe even a thousand depending on your case gaskets valve cover gasket that's a big issue those leak a lot so make sure you change that water pump that can be a big repair so all these things add up and I've already got a big list that I have to do on my car anyways I mean uh the dash starts lighting up like a Christmas tree when you don't take care of this and it's it can really impact the driving performance so yeah just keep that in mind so don't buy these cars just for investment right that never works out don't do that for cars but buy it if you're knowing what you want to get into if you want to get into this pure driving pleasure of you know modern classic vehicles this thing checks a lot of boxes like I mentioned but just make sure that you budget for this if I had to give a number and if you're ready to do a few things yourself here and there I'd budget about $2 to $3,000 per year just for maintenance costs in these cars it's not too bad but you got to be prepared to do some stuff on your own uh and some big things can eat up the whole budget so but that's what I'd average out to if you buy decent condition one uh two to $3,000 per year and you should be fine for uh a majority of its life um but yeah now let's talk about driving I mean this like I mentioned the engine response is beautiful it sounds excellent the manual downshift is beautiful you can rev match yourself I mean holy wait me I downshifted to three I got up to like 140 something and third gear the gears are long in this car compared to my Miata when I'm when I reach like Gear 2 in this car at like whatever like 80 km an hour I'm already like fourth gear in my Miata so this car is geared long and I know uh some people don't like that but I think it really adds to the character of this car um it has so much power in each gear that's the thing no matter how long the gears are every gear gives you crazy power even when I'm on the highway I can push this thing in sixth gear like I barely have to downshift so yeah lots of power when you give it gas based on the turbos look I'm in third gear I'm at like 4,500 RPM at 120 km per hour I'm going to push it it takes a second and then it pushes you oh man okay okay too fast yeah there is a little bit of Turbo leg but man when it comes in it comes in like VTEC it is good uh cabin is pretty quiet very comfortable I love the seats suspension is very compliant does not feel too rough at all unless you hit a bump oh that the thing about this sport suspension that this car has if you hit a bump or a pothole it really unsettles the whole dynamic but otherwise it's pretty pretty compliant it's pretty good um what else you got a lot of features in this car like you got uh headlights that turn when you turn so you get a lot of visibility on the road when you put back up your car the mirrors tilt down so you can see uh the curb next to you on your right side I've got backup sensors on this youve got Auto dimming mirrors everywhere um excellent sound system system I've got Bluetooth on this not Bluetooth audio unfortunately just Bluetooth calling uh what else just a lot of features I got that little red strip lighting mood lighting and that's what I love about these German cars they're filled with so many interesting features uh it just makes the owner experience ownership experience that much more fun because you find a lot of these Easter eggs during your experience driving these cars um but yeah driving engine response awesome little bit of leg oh where am I oops accidentally came into an airport I just want to make sure I don't get into parking but yeah a little bit of leg but I don't think it's a big deal I I I it doesn't bother me and it's the response is awesome um yeah suspension is great manual transmission is great this thing is special man this thing is a car you just love to drive the sound the sound of this engine is like none other it just sounds so strong and healthy healthy and smooth and it's it is amazing I think I think I'll conclude it there I think I I've praised this car enough uh let's see let's see what we can do to this car I mean I don't have any solid plans yet I mean if I do want to start building this car out I'd like to go kind of like all out or all the way so that's why I'm not I don't have like you know one single item on my mind that you know whether I want to do exhaust or air intake or single turbo or anything like that if I do decide to do something i' go for it but I'm just so satisfied with how this car is like aesthetically and dynamically I mean it it's not begging for mods and if you're modding this car is you're doing it to really compete with uh super cars like that's that's the level you can take this car but yeah thank you so much for watching I'm glad you're with me on this journey you know I A A lot of these cars are my childhood dream and I feel very grateful uh to be able to experience these and be able to own these vehicles and a lot of it like I said it's about smart buying you just got to know where the market is you got to be confident in getting into it you got to be confident in dealing with a lot of the issues that come up with these cars a lot of it's dealing uh with small things here and there but as long as you're comfortable you can get a lot of joy and a lot of reward out of these uh ownership experiences especially if you find gems like these right like my fleet right now I have a naturally aspirated you know NC Mazda Miata six-speed manual one of the best four-cylinder cars ever made I have this uh you know BMW 3 Series inline three inline six with a twin turbo with a manual one of the best six-cylinders ever made and then I have an Audi as well one of the best 8 cylinders ever made hopefully I'll bring a video about that soon to you uh yeah thank you so much for watching and stay
