welcome back to another mod my ride where we scored this 335i crazy cheap and we're gonna see how cool we can make it in just two days that's right everyone we have added another bmw at least temporarily to our fleet here don't worry he's got enough of them in the back this i don't think is going to be a long-term project it's going to be a two-day build and our plan is pretty simple we're going to take this 2007 335i which has a few problems and for that reason it came to us very cheaply a buddy of ours actually reached out and said hey guys you want this car and when he told us the number we thought i guess we're buying it so believe it or not we bought this car for 2500 canadian dollars which works out to just a hair under 2000 us dollars and that is a screaming good deal for all you americans if you jump on autotempest.com you won't find one this cheap for whatever reason these cars are very inexpensive in canada if you jump on kijiji or facebook marketplace you can find them for like around three grand in canada so i'm not sure why they're so cheap up here but they are amazing performance value regardless of whether you're buying in the states or up here i mean it's a turbocharged you know rear wheel drive sports coupe for that kind of money i don't know that there's anything else in the market that really offers that kind of bang for buck of course it comes with all the bmw reliability issues that i like to tease pete about but it does have the m sport appearance package so it's it's a looker on the downside it's got an automatic transmission so you can't win them all but i'm still really stoked to play around with this and see what kind of performance we can get out of it so our build plan is pretty simple really we're going to add a whole bunch of performance to this thing and push it pretty hard on the dyno i think you guys are going to be impressed by the kind of power it made stock and what it'll make in the very end and of course we'll add some uh some flash to it too with you know correcting the paint and putting a nice set of wheels and tires on it and all that good stuff before we start wrenching though let's jump over to bms tuning strap this thing onto their dynojet and show you guys what kind of power it made [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] as you guys just saw we did three runs with best peak numbers of 278 wheel horsepower and 299 pound-feet of torque so very healthy motor in this thing doesn't look like we have to do any de-carboning or any of that kind of stuff so let's get this thing on the hoist and get to work when pete and i started to do some research on how to make more power with a 335i like this the internet took us to cop tuning's website and as soon as we saw that they had a really great assortment of parts for this car we stopped searching because we knew how well it worked on our sti these products are just incredibly high quality they fit incredibly well and they make the power that they advertise this is the v3 access port and if you followed our sti series then you will have seen us using it to tune that car it's incredibly powerful it just plugs into the od obd2 port and gives you full programmability of the ecu it's quite amazing and it can also use it you can also use it as gauges you can data log it's a very powerful little guy and it has some built-in tunes for a variety of levels of modification including the collection of parts we have here so we're going to be able to use an off-the-shelf tune their stage one kit include includes the the access port and an air filter and then the stage one plus includes this intercooler and charge pipe and that's really where you're gonna make most of your power from but we've also gone the extra step to include their three inch exhaust system which is a really nice high quality full stainless system we know this stuff's all just going to go on cooperatively and now that i've pumped it up so much pt let's find out just how well it really does fit [Music] dropping that exhaust proved to be a bit more difficult than we originally anticipated it is a one-piece unit so it was big and bulky and of course the studs here on the oe downpipes were rusted i had to come in with a bowl buster heat those nuts up and then finally extract them and they did come off so now what i'm doing is just cleaning up the threads here to make sure that we can bolt on our cob system and i know what some of you are thinking wait a second you're leaving the stock downpipes on here why is that well we want to make sure that we're keeping this car legal and to keep it legal that means uh the cats need to be in place the big gains that you can make on these cars is if you go to catless downpipes and i think it's like 20 to 25 horsepower and sure that that's a good amount of power but then your car stinks and like i said if you've got any type of emission restrictions in your state or tests then you're not going to pass them so this is still i think a good way to go and it allows you to just make this whole process a bolt-on experience so we're just going to bolt on the exhaust drop in the other cob stuff and it'll be much easier than having to like fight with trying to get the downpipes out of here and it's still going to make great power so i'm going to finish cleaning up this uh these studs here and then we can get on to bolting up that cobb exhaust system so i've got the front section in and for some of you that are wondering what is this chamber here this is an a helmholtz chamber what this does is actually reduce drone so cobb has spent a considerable amount of time making sure that this exhaust system sounds good and so that it doesn't drone you can also see it's got a resonator in here and we'll make sure to fire this thing up at the at the end of this episode to let you know how it sounds here's another really cool thing that i personally love are v-band clamps like when you're putting this together it's super easy super quick you don't have to worry about bolts and lining everything up like this make sure everything's lined up perfectly last job here is to obviously install these cobb exhaust tips and i've been going back and forth here whether i should be installing it with the logo peeking out here past the bumper but you know what i really like the idea of tucking this right flush alongside the bumper like this yeah looks nice it looks nice and i know you might get a little bit of like sooting around the rear bumper area but i'm going to trade that off for this kind of look because i certainly like it moving up front here where we're going to do the front mount intercooler the panel filter and the charge pipe and to start with i was just cleaning up the engine bay a bit and don't panic everyone i know it's very dirty but we will detail this so it looks almost as good as new again and there was a ton of like leaves and debris packed in all along this cowl area and look what i found down here it's pete and dave's under hood wildlife adventures again this time in the form of snail a petrified snail look at him alive he's he's done buddy he's tapped out yes he is retired for the season escargot i think that's carter yeah we got a snail here we got two snails under under there this is our this is our mascot for the build everyone i think he's got to live right here just chilling enjoying the show so uh the other thing that's been tweaking me it's unusual it's usually pete's ocd that gets sweet but for me something about this metal bracket here that i can see pete previously sprayed with fluid film to prevent it from rusting even more it just looks so terrible compared to everything else i think i'm going to pull this bracket out actually and clean it up and put a nice coat of maybe like 415 on it make it look good because the engine bay otherwise looks really good so i'm going to let pete do the heavy lifting on the front mount i'm not gonna play with brackets for a [Music] minute [Music] [Music] quick pause in the action to show you guys the difference between our intercoolers here it is tremendous the stock unit as you can see seems like an okay size for stock obviously but the cobb unit csf1 is just so much bigger this core is actually rated to hold up to a thousand horsepower and on stock cars it'll give you 15 to 20 horsepower gain right away it's at this intercooler the stock one is a bottleneck on these vehicles so making this upgrade is a really good one and of course this is all a metal aluminum i think this is aluminum construction which means you're not going to have these plastic intakes breaking which they tend to do when you start boosting higher boost pressures with these so now that i've explained that let's get this back onto the car and see how it looks [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] that was a bit of a job but everything is installed and fit up so well like that cobb stuff does you did see me have to do a bit of trimming on the shroud to fit up that huge intercooler but it got in there which is pretty awesome also that intercooler pipe is now three inches as you saw the stock one next down in the middle so i think we're gonna make a bunch more power with that and of course last but not least we put that high flow air filter in from cobb so this whole package is ready to make some power dp how did you work out on that bracket there you have it everyone one old rusty bracket looking 95 percent better it's not perfect but it's certainly a lot better than it was and it was such a quick easy job for me pete i actually had to kill a bit of time while you struggled with all this you know piping and intercooling and all that good stuff but why don't you always get the easy job you know no i just choose wisely that's all that's great this is stubborn and you guys can decide who is who there so now that pete's out of the way i can install this pro looking bracket and show it off to you look at that everyone that is one professional looking bracket i guess i should have done something about this one rusty bolt here that is still slightly offensive but steve the snail had to move over here and get a closer look and he he agrees with me that looks pretty fine [Music] there you have it our sd suspension coilover system is in there and we've bought new oe top hats from fcp euro because bam it's here quickly and if anything ever goes wrong with them they'll replace it it's got like forever warranty from them somehow and worth noting that these ones that we pulled off are actually worn out on the ones that we put on the the bushing here is like at more of an angle and you can see it sort of like torn off this lip here and it's sunken down quite a bit so we had a moment of confusion there because they seemed like they were different heights but it's because this one is actually collapsed these st suspension coilovers are as you guys probably know are constructed by kw suspension in germany and they're built to a very high quality they're a nice galvanized body so they'll be very resistant to corrosion important in a climate like ours and we went for the xa model so there's an x model which has a no adjustability rebound the xa model like we went for has adjustable rebound and you can also go to the xta model which gives you adjustable rebound and camber plates up top so we wouldn't have had to play with this it would have had camber plates instead but we figured for a true street car we're not trying to like dial this in for the racetrack we don't really need the camber caster plates up top so plus these will give you a bit more uh ride comfort too won't they beat so that is our coal-over setup and we will do the same outback wow look at that we have ourselves a very very worn-out shock combo and just before i get into how bad this is uh quick mention if you guys already haven't noticed these are aftermarket h r lowering springs this car was lowered and i think that's part of the reason why so much of the shock is worn out like look at the the bump stop here this actually i have this flipped around it was like this but it's just so worn out here that it wasn't doing much and this is a good thing to note when you're doing this type of job it's certainly worthwhile replacing everything like our lower mounts were also shot everything on this whole combo even these bushings up here were shot if you're doing this job by all means consider replacing everything because i certainly think it's going to make that ride so much better you don't want to use old stuff when you're putting in new suspension now on to the real thing that we have to take care of here and that is engine oil because you know what we're going to find out whether this car has been serviced recently or it is black as tar so let's see what the oil looks like here yeah right here there yeah you know i caught you there i still get that mixed up i'm backwards you are that's the problem that's the problem though i'm trying to make sure that uh everything's good for the camera here yeah if i get this properly in the hole or is it gonna make a mess there it goes well yeah it's certainly due for an oil change it's it's pretty dark it's dark now that pete's done making a mess under there i'm gonna not make a mess up here because of this easy pour spout and of course we are using valvoline and in this case we're using their full synthetic modern engine in the factory 5w30 weight and modern engine refers to the fact that on direct injection engines like this one you they are prone to carbon buildup including on the back of the valves as you can see this little diagram on their bottle and we know that these engines are particularly susceptible to that and the formulation of this oil actually helps combat that and you might be thinking well wait a minute oil doesn't really end up there well it does actually as it's recirculated those gas vapors and so so on are drawn back into the combustion process and do apparently contribute to the carbon buildup not only on the back of your valves but also on your pistons and on other critical areas of the engine and this formulation is designed to combat that so we think it's the perfect way to go in this bmw because we know it's running well on the dyno but we don't want to contribute any more to carbon buildup than we we need to so let's uh pop this thing open and show you my my smooth pouring technique you ready everybody this is going to be exciting oh whoa what a save what a save all that trash talking and i made a mess oh man that that could have been really bad apparently you need to hold the funnel when you pour who knew oh wow there you go everybody well everybody i think that is going to be a wrap for this one we still have a ton more coming in the next episode including dino wheel and tire reveal we're gonna cut and buff this thing make sure it looks super good so stay tuned make sure to like this video if you did enjoy the content and think about subscribing and turning on that notification bell so you'll always be reminded when these videos do drop i'm gonna leave you uh with what this exhaust sounds like because i don't want to keep you guys waiting till the next episode i'm certainly eager to hear how it sounds and you will notice i did move the tips back out of it when i got it lower i figured it just didn't look right tucked in there so i think they're at the perfect angle and length right now so let's fire this thing up [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] give it a couple more rats
