yeah I see a coolant pump down there auxiliary pump oh wow it's already unplugged yeah you can see the connector sitting there to the side somebody's already tried that so it's a lot more screwed up than that this tells me that they probably whoever sold this to you knew about this problem I'm not surprised the old Kick the Can down the road thing very much I'm getting a lot of these kicked up cans aren't I there's one there there's one there oh man welcome to garage the dumbest Automotive channel in all of YouTube and after weeks of waiting it has finally arrived my Fisker Karma is here in Kansas in my old barn here on the farm charging up so we can head up to the car Wizards this is a hybrid it is a plug-in hybrid so about 50 Mi of electric range when new and then when that runs out a motor an Ecotech 4cylinder Turbo from GM kicks in and you have unlimited mileage range so on principle it seems like a really cool car plug in hybrids it makes a lot of sense EV for around town but on a road trip you have a lot of power and then you put this thing in sport mode and you have both combined for over 400 horsepower sounds great but it was a major failure for Fisker they only made a little over 2,000 of these before the battery supplier went bankrupt and then the cars were no more they were brought back briefly as an electric car but uh that didn't last and now there's the latest Fisker out that is near bankruptcy and on life support which we'll talk about later in the the video but first of all uh this one I was so excited to get my hands on what I thought was a nice example of one of these bought it on Bring a trailer sight unseen it was in Florida which was my first mistake uh went down to pick it up and felt like I got pretty scammed the blower motor does not kick on so I had no air conditioning I was planning on driving this home back to Kansas no big deal I could drive with the windows down back to Kansas but also it has a massive massive oil leak when the motor kicks on it definitely leaks oil onto the exhaust and it's B in smoke enough to where I'm concerned about my health and just in general maybe setting the car on fire because there's so much smoke coming out from under the hood say when I accelerate or I make a turn it just spills onto the exhaust Additionally the check engine light is on despite many hard resets to try and reset all these issues uh the check engine light has come back it does turn off when I do do the hard reset the control alt delete for the Fisker and there is a major Shake on the highway which I assume is from tires being uh blocks from sitting for so long I suspect this Karma has sat for years so I went to pick it up and notice all these issues right as I was driving off no help from the seller he wasn't even there apparently he's out of the country it was a representative for him and he was obviously no help I asked to return the car and he said no this is as is but they didn't disclose any of the issues with the car on bring a trailer so I definitely got scammed again but hopefully this car is fixable it only has 18,000 Mi it's in otherwise great condition and there is a lot of support uh big Community for these cars so I'm not just going to punt this thing I do really like it and I have always wanted one of these but I am curious how much electric range it does have left 12-year-old battery assuming original based on the service records so I plugged it in and in the morning we will go to the car Wizards which is 35 miles away so hopefully it can make it on battery showing it does have reasonably good health on the battery and then we can inspect all of the other issues we're squeezing this inspection in right before the car wizard leaves for a cruise so I do really appreciate that he's going on vacation so uh in the morning we'll hit the road but before we hit the road to the Wizards in the morning I've come to my newly completed beach by the pond here on the farm checking out the sunset and also I would like to thank betterhelp for sponsoring today's video I was matched with a betterhelp therapist a few years ago and just having someone to talk to that had no connection to anyone in my life who could look at it all objectively and helped me gain new insights it was huge I was dealing with some loss not very well blaming myself actually for the loss of someone very close to me my grandmother and better help kind of help me deal with that organize my thoughts among other things including some stress and self-confidence issues that I was able to talk through so better help can help you like it helps me by connecting you with a licensed therapist who is trained to listen and give you helpful unbiased advice first you go to their website link below enjoy a special discount on your first month now let's go 9 night and then head up to the car Wizards hopefully that charge holds up it didn't make it the motor kicked on it's interesting went from 5432 1 Z in the span of a mile and we are short Newton by 3 miles so I guess the real electric range is about 30 35 miles which really isn't too bad 10 Mi off from 45 for a 12-year-old battery that's pretty impressive pulling up to the wizard and there's definitely that stinky stinky burning oil smell wizard I tried to get here on All Battery but it was just a few miles short so it's enough to get it warmed up man I can really it's like burn oil yeah take a away for that wow it's strong she's a leaker that's Ecotech I don't know if this motor has really been ran much in 2 3 years the gas smells gross and old in it it is a Fisker Karma isn't it pretty yeah I heard you coming up it's like a humming noise yes it's like someone's playing Nirvana guitar it is a guitar Rift for an ambient noise yes mhm but on principle it's a pretty cool car plug-in hybrid 40 50 Mi range now this one's 10 years old so maybe it's about 35 40 and then when that goes out you have the Ecotech turbo 4 cylinder like what we saw in the HHR panel SS to keep you going for as long as you want and you get this beautiful Henrik Fisker design but there's always a butt when through this garage something thing's broken isn't it yeah why you step inside wizard into the magical Fisker Karma you know this uh the door switch on to get in to the car reminds me of an XLR or a C7 C correct a lot of GM parts in here not just the drivetrain but then look the steering column all the switches and things oh yeah C6 Corvette a lot of GM in here the push button I feel like some of the switches yes so when I turn this on I am greeted with the check engine light and these cars they have a hard reset sort of like a control out Delete by pulling that kind of plug over there on the passenger fender and I did that for 30 minutes again for 45 minutes it didn't fix any of the issues but it did make the check engine light go away but it has now come back okay so the big issue is other than the smoke like there's some sort of leak around I'm guessing the valve cover I go to turn on the climate control no nothing it won't respond you can tell it's it's connecting to my inputs and it's clicking MH but it will not kick on the climate control it's reading 0 degrees outside I don't know why it's doing it up there as well I wonder if that has something to do with it but I can't switch it to anything I can switch it to Celsius M7 outside and I can go through and do anything but the lagging is unbelievable like come on come on come on see like changing radio stations this looks like one of those Chinese radios who get off of Amazon right um it's cool that it has a very tactile feedback like it it pops when you push the button like you can feel it kind of move like you're pushing a button that's neat but it is very very laggy and obviously I have no blowers so no heat no air conditioning no nothing check engine lights um also yeah the leak like I mentioned and it does Shake on the highway going 65 70 mph or above because this thing has been sitting a lot for years it's probably flat spots on the tire right the previous owner left the country his employee just basically threw me the keys and said good luck and uh didn't disclose any of the issues to me I bought it on bringing trailer for 20 grand so there's this poor guy in Philadelphia his name is Fisker Philly and he is the expert and he restores these mhm and he said that he could help me I could send him the car to fix it or uh at least for the blower motor he gave a tip to I guess remove the passenger cow cover and then unplug the coolant temperature sensor because something will go bad and that'll draw too much power away from the HC unit to where it won't kick on if you unplug it that'll fix it so I'm assuming I'm assuming he means takes taking this off right yeah it's probably a cabin filter I would imagine right here yeah look through in here yeah that is a cabin filter I don't see anything there he said by the motor so it probably be in the middle right okay see if I can get so I see yeah I see a coolant pump down there auxiliary pump oh wow it's already unplugged yeah you can see the connector sitting there to the side somebody's already tried that so it's unplugged the one Tipp he gave and it still doesn't kick on so it's a lot more screwed up than that this tells me that they probably whoever sold this to you knew about this problem I'm not surprised yeah man what a shame it sat in this Warehouse seems like for a very long time I picked it up immediately couldn't get the air to blow cold and uh basically I said hey any ideas on how to make this work I looked through the owner's manual trying to figure out if I was hitting the wrong button or something it wasn't me there was so many other issues the smell of the motor with the oil smoke the shake the check engine light no air conditioning I was supposed to drive this thing cross country home from uh Palm Beach to Kansas I was like no way I mean the tire Shake alone I have tol the tires and then who knows what else because it's been sitting so much um so I asked to return the car they just ghosted me ghosted you they not even answer any of my questions they just completely ghosted me and I was nice and polite they they just dropped a turd on me oh wow from bring a trailer this was a bring a trailer purchase so you're supposed to disclose issues and they just treated it like it was Craigslist or I don't know eBay or something so yeah but uh hopefully it's fixable I mean I'm seeing a lot of GM nness here I'm curious I guess can we take this bar off to see what the valve cover looks like yeah let me put your cover back on here be able Kick the Can down the road thing very much I'm getting a lot of these kicked up cans aren't I there's one there and there's one there oh man it seems like you keep getting stuck with cars with no AC too but this was supposed to be a nice one wizard 16,000 mil I'm bring a trailer it's been sitting for 16,000 years I guess so okay I'm seeing EOTech turbo so they didn't cover up the uh Chevy part very well no oh yeah yep there's a Chevy symbol over here there's a bunch of GM Deli yeah that's a that's an Ecotech turbo for sure all looks very familiar but I'm not seeing any obvious huge oil leaks the exhaust is on that side right around the turbo there's the turbo and the hrss this was all kind of covered I like you couldn't see it cuz it's all packed in so tight it's kind of cool to see it mounted traditionally yeah I don't really see okay so this is all oily in here you see that mhm so I bet if we pull these coil packs out which there's only obviously four we could probably take these two out I bet there's oil all filled inside of the spark plug holes see there's oil over here oh yeah it's this valve cover gasket so the gasket around there and then there's the little holes around the uh spark plug spark plugs and those can fail as well mhm we could take a couple out and see all right hopefully it doesn't break like the uh cyber dump truck thing did the what cyber dump H okay uh yeah please be careful they're saying that you don't know how to remove tabs you've been removing tabs all your life yeah so and obviously that's how a tab works you push down on it and it comes out which is what the Cyber truck is supposed to do not explode in your hand those people that made the comment probably have never worked on a car in their life right all right let me go get a tool so everything looks good in there huh so that's not leaking oil there's a lot of it in this valley though did they spill it wouldn't be maybe no it looks dry there so I feel like when I take a turn it builds up looks like in this Valley and I take a turn and it dumps it makes it even worse mhm I bet that it's coming from this just the valve cover gasket around this hole where these VVT actuators are solenoids actually there's solenoids and it's rolling building up along this and pouring out the back yep look down there yeah there's sort of a canal going right there I do see it it splashes onto your exhaust from there so there it is so no big deal on that one actually looks really easy to reach given its placement compared to the Cobalts and the hhrs and yeah I'm just glad it that it didn't snap and break on me so does anything else look scary in here as far as uh nightmare to work on stuff it looks pretty simple to me yeah it doesn't look scary at all it would be scary getting into the electric motor part of it but other than that it's just a GM Ecotech yeah the battery seems healthy the range is pretty good for its age the motor kicks in well than the smoke mhm so really that big issue is getting the climate control to kick on which is kind of important put the rubbers back in oh does that just keep water from getting into there yeah there we go nice to have a barrier I've never been very good about using those I don't have to anymore you don't either no no well other than the plug already being undone no big uh nasty gotta surprises there so guess we'll see what's going on underneath huh yep maybe we should just all start driving a lot of like Eastern Europe you know simple easy they don't have these kind of trck do no they don't but yeah so let's see what's going on with the Fisker Karma 12-year-old plug-in hybrid which that's like the electric motor there that is the big Drive motor which normally you don't see that exposed man that's a big boy look at it it is huge so combined 400 horsepower going to the rear wheels it's pretty fast but it's still a very heavy car so I wouldn't call it like super fast yeah yeah so what kind of suspension setup do we have here just normal normal coil springs and yeah just looks like a normal car as far as that's concerned nothing active about it huh I don't think so unless there's wiring up top I don't think so then it goes right into just flat nothing this is like Kansas when you look at Kansas right just nothing yes you can see all your oil pouring out here oh no there's no dry shaft or anything yeah it just be wires going to the inverter so I'm curious ious about the battery I'm guessing it's in the middle there cuz this seems this seems Hollow and this seems like floor right yeah maybe it's in the battery if only 50 mile range it's not going to be as big as this entire thing so and there's something coming out of here with coolant says Outlet Inlet is that probably for the battery cooling I would imagine yeah I would imagine the battery's here those that's coolant for it mhm and then something high voltage right here saying don't touch which I I just touched it you do yeah yeah what's this look at this weird Okay so this explains the hot exhaust smell this looks like a structural member it's actually the exhaust cuz it goes to these Mufflers on the side two little mu it's like the SLR McLaren it is and it's leaking right onto the exhaust so that is the smell I'm getting I guess when I floor it and take a turn it dumps out of that Valley onto this this muffler or whatever the heck this is so that comes out of the turbo right into this big chamber here so it says over here bozel yes where's that from I don't know I don't know where it's from but it just comes right out here look huh yeah that is on both sides really cool this car was built or assembled in Finland so uhoh looks like we got a little more fun here from the drain plug just from the drain plug okay well you can do all change anyway I don't think it's been done in years and then this is this is very interesting it is a very interesting car it really is the technology is pretty cool yeah that lower subframe or whatever the heck it is has a pattern design to it looks very very beefy look United States of America so that was cast there but it was assembled in Finland how are the brakes pretty good looking brakes 18,000 miles I can't imagine yeah nothing fancy about the suspension it says fisers Sachs but made in Mexico huh so that is a special to Fisker strut M which probably is not made anymore I imagine the fiser gurus would know but as far as sourcing Fisker specific parts that might be a bad one have you noticed any play in the steering cuz this bushing is completely torn here oh I mean no not really I me it's still usable but it it's definitely I don't even know where you would get those from right I guess we'll have to check and see but yeah all right and then the front a lot of cooling I me looks more like a normal car here mhm right you see the intercooler duct up there and then here's the radiator normal fan and then they have a bit of a pass through I guess for brake cooling you see these two circles or those look like separate those may be they intercoolers or I guess the air just needs to flow out somewhere so that's why they the the core in there you see the silver right I see it yeah it's a pass through so it's like a port hole from a yacht for intercoolers mhm something's missing here it's being held together with zip ties should be a panel here or something I'm sure there's an underbody panel That was supposed to exist that no longer does that's pretty common but you're not going to be able to tell me in 5 minutes what's going on with the HVAC no not in five minutes so I guess you can investigate further with the check engine light and uh the blower and we'll see what we got well hopefully get some answers for you well I'm cruising home in the Fisker since the car wizard is leaving on his cruise and there's plenty of hoopties that he needs to work on to engine outs going on right now uh so I'm bringing it back but before I left I emailed Fisker Philly the Fisker expert on the East Coast told him about the unplugged thing being unplugged and he said well that means your blower motor is probably shot what happens is it fills up with water a drain gets clogged and it kills the blower motor so uh that seems to be the case uh cost over $1,000 dollar at least what I can find online for a used one I'm not sure if a part matches up to anything else but uh it doesn't seem like an insurmountable repair which is good news uh but still would have been nice if some of this was disclosed maybe because it got washed right before the sale then it filled up with water they didn't know but I got a feeling they knew some of these issues and didn't disclose it but it is sort of on me I tend to buy cars that are cheaper and usually the seller knows something and so they're selling it cheaper to have a good conscience but then still don't disclose the issues so it ends up uh well being a wash or a total bath in some cases but hopefully it's not too bad on this Fisker the people who got really screwed though are those uh that bought into the new Fisker oceans those electric SUVs designed by Henrik Fisker uh that bought them for 50 $60,000 and now they're trading for in the 20s as the second coming of a Fisker automotive company uh begins to go out of business into bankruptcy one once again history repeating itself uh 12 years later just amazing and I guess the people who bought the stock as well stock you're taking a risk but uh now that is pennies lost basically 100% of its value so Fisker will go down in the anals of history with DeLorean and some other companies and that's a shame because it is a brilliant name behind it a legendary designer like the BMW Z8 I have was pinned by Henrik Fisker but uh the car companies at least the engineering all the issues all the things uh history repeating itself with the Fisker ocean as it did here in 2012 uh they just can't build a car that works and have a company lasts for very long so kind of a shame I'm still thrilled though to have this rare piece of history and I do really like the way it drives and looks and feels so I'm not going to give up yet thank you so much for watching
