regret it it is a 2014 Maserati gbly and when it came out brand new it was $85,000 for this piece of junk and it made absolutely no sense it was the dumbest Maserati ever for 10 $20,000 less you could have got an AMG Mercedes like a C63 or an m550i so many options with such better performance and technology and reliability than a gbly and well they still managed to sell these because they were lease specials but after that lease was up nobody wanted to keep these things so they all got turned back in and they were worth less than half of what they were new but now it's 10 years old and I thought well at 10 years old in the current prices now they sell for under $220,000 many can be found in the teens it makes a much more attractive Prospect for a used car you get a Maserati with pretty low mileage a great sounding V6 for like 15 grand that actually sounds pretty good to me uh but because I'm a complete idiot I have to buy the cheapest one in the USA and I bought this one with 70,000 miles for $8,000 so for 8 Grand I get a 400 horsepower twin turbo V6 Maserati with all-wheel drive that looks really really nice but you can probably see where this is going it it is an Absol how much you could save unfortunately I'm not going to be saving much on this Maserati all right here we go on the $88,000 gbly now this isn't a base model it is the Q4 so it's all-wheel drive and a little bit more spicy but uh clearly used and abused it came from New Jersey so yeah you can imagine what kind of hell they went through for 10 years the wheels are curved like a typical New York New Jersey car scratches all around everywhere little dings and things stuff that can be cleaned up uh this isn't from New York though condensation there in the tail light after 10 years and 70,000 miles so it's a combination of what is abuse and what is just bad engineering and quality when it comes to the Mazerati itself now the car itself looks pretty good styling wise it's nothing exceptional of course the Maserati Port holes are here the sporks are all over the place and the wheels in addition to being curved well this is probably the only not curb one uh they're ruined the brake dust has eaten away at it you can see a little ding there typical New York car surprisingly the lower bumper isn't that chewed up I'm quite surprised uh you can see there's a coating of white Gunk all right here and I'll show you what that is here in a little bit but on the surface for $8,000 it seems pretty good now I bought it at a wholesale dealer auction completely as is said the check engine light was on uh but one thing they didn't disclose when they're supposed to is odors and you get inside this thing and well well unfortunately it is a smoker's car a really bad Smoker's car so that can be fixed ozoned out to a certain degree but it'll never be the same again uh General wear and tear just exiting the car and kicking this door panel over the years that's not very nice but the odometer is only 77,000 mil and some pluses to the gbi I do think the seats on Maserati are very very comfortable still plenty of cushion not some rock hard racing seats that we're getting in luxury cars nowadays so car reviewers when they track cars can say oh yeah really holds in the corners and the seats are nice and supportive and hold you in but they're they're not comfortable now of course Doug deiro made this thing famous or inFAMOUS uh six years ago by sticking a Tobe toothpaste in the horrible panel Gap right here showing how horrible the craftsmanship is with the Maserati and a lot of it does look very very cheap it is unbelievable that this car was $85,000 new it looks more in the line of like a $30,000 Infiniti G35 but it was $85,000 they put a little clock on the dash that isn't very fancy uh this surrounded in plastic is a Chrysler infotainment system I guess the only plus is this wood here looks well relatively real I guess it is real because is chipped there that does have a nice feel to it but what doesn't have a nice feel is all the shared Chrysler stuff cuz Maserati is part of stellantis or back 10 years ago I think it was called Fiat Chrysler uh so you have the Dodge Dart window switches the same start stop button a lot of things in common with a $20,000 economy car but that can all be forgiven for $8,000 but unfortunately what can't be forgiven under any circumstances is how bad this thing's running yeah you see the check engine light is on it'll start flashing that's supposed to be a 400 horsepower twin turbo V6 and right now it's about a four or five cylinders uh that are working so the flashing check engine light uh means a hard constant misfire not good so when I picked it up I thought well I better drive it immediately to the car Wizards and uh well we had had a bit of fun where the temp gauge pegged for a second and then went away and when I got up here uh well yeah the uh coolant pressure is really high and just sort of exploded out of the cap even though it wasn't overheating which usually indicates that uh combustion gases from the engine are getting into the cooling system over pressurizing it and causing this huge mess and you can see uh this V6 should be running a lot smoother than that it is not running well so most likely it's not going to be a simple tuneup to fix this thing 77,000 miles and uh well now we know why it was traded in there's also a warning light for the low beams and the wrench light saying maintenance is due the tire pressure monitor light and the other thing that uh doesn't work is the driver's seat belt it it doesn't latch it is stuck broken filled with Gunk I don't know but it's it's it's not working now to give a nod to the Maserati all the normal Electronics seem to be working fine you would hope so with only 77,000 miles so a nod to that sunroof is all good the air conditioning blows cold but another thing with the quality here the dome light requires so much pressure to push it and it just moves the entire headliner to turn off and on the very weak dome light and with the car running you can see the Maserati touch control which is the 10-year-old Chrysler infot containment system and then the worst part of this car has to be the shifter because it is so vague and sometimes this is something there we go this is something that everybody complained about because it's the most unintuitive shifter ever and you just sort of have to get into the right indent so you think you put it in drive you accidentally put it in neutral think you put it in park you've accidentally put it in reverse this was a dark spot in Chrysler quality uh 10 years ago something that they certainly rectified but for a few years uh these gibles were stuck with the shifter and an absolutely terrible backup camera so unfortunately she runs uh very very poorly but uh drives even worse I I can't believe it made it up here I'm just going to floor it out of the wizard sha 400 horsepower it should accelerate pretty well but it still sounds pretty good that's another plus with these Maseratis even though it's a twin turbo V6 it does sound really really nice but now it's chugging oh my God that check engine light's flashing that 2 to 3,000 RPM is just terrible on this engine unfortunately and uh-oh engine cooling over temperature so you don't want to floor this car otherwise it uh starts to overheat yeah I better turn around right now while I can still get back to the car Wizards it's going to Bong all the time because I can't buckle my seat Bel come on Maserati you can make it 77,000 mil on this thing uh any Mercedes or BMW the expectations at least 130,000 miles before things really start getting screwed up in most cases then Japanese product a Toyota Honda Lexus Acura 200,000 miles or more this one it seems mechanically totaled at 77,000 miles but we'll see as it pegs itself oh come on just a little bit further uh we'll see what the car wizard has to say about it Y and then I did this earlier too where it just dramatically drops back down after you drive it at a low RPM for a while it goes back to normal scary weard it sounds like your Brew Coffee yeah I do believe I have stepped in it with this uh gbly here 2 14 gbly with 77,000 Mi as is at the dealer auction as is $8,000 $88,000 it says it's pretty dumpy or does that say dumpy must have been the dealer but uh yeah so 90% or more off of its original MSRP uh but it's probably a good reason unfortunately yeah go ahead and pop the hood I hear boiling and it what is this that's antifreeze antifreeze yeah and it's not leaking it's goodness it's pressuring out of that what in the world is going on here Listen to It's boiling does that mean I've run out of coolant did you drive it up here like this from witch to to Newton about 20 30 miles yeah but it wasn't overheating it was showing a blip every once in a while where it was saying it was hot but I bet it doesn't even have any cool in in it once it I mean I have to let it cool down to see but yeah holy moly looks like half of it went away huh well it uh doesn't run very well here let me start it up for you I think I'm not going to hurt it anymore than I already [Music] have oh yeah smell that it smells like crank case smells like watch are you trying to kill me it's Old Faithful here you better turn it off okay all right yeah stick your eye in there stick your nose in there Jesus wizard you could have gotten the third Dee burn um and then there's the fan so yeah um probably not going to be a tuneup no this is not a tuneup something major is wrong could be a cracked head a blown head gasket or who knows what cracked head or blown head gasket we do have a head gasket tester but I don't think that's uh necessary I don't think we need to it's pretty obvious uh what just happened the vapor that's coming out of there smells like crank case oil I I know it's exactly it's either head something major with the cooling system is mixing with oh let's check the oil make sure there's not coolant in there no that's okay it seems to be let me uh let me wipe it off on your coat the oil is not milky so that's a good size yeah so we're a fan of Maserati depreciated ones and we like this engine I guess the older this 2014 not as good as say a 201 19 or newer right I think they really started really getting good like 17 18s okay I mean it's the same engine but I mean what's the story or what happened who knows May the previous owner overheated it and just kept driving or I mean do you think it's abuse or do you think this is just uh the Maserati life here a bit I don't I don't think this is a common issue well they've depreciated now to where you can buy a nice one of these with about 70,000 Mi for 16 18 Grand so I got it for 10 10 grand less than that it has some wear and tear uh oh did you get a whiff of the inside oh no let's take a whiff I always like interior yeah especially on Italian sports cars or Sports sedans ready here yeah get my nose ready okay it smells like an ashtray in ass yep yeah so somebody smoked and parted in it for years and years or smoke weed in it yeah it smells terrible skunky unfortunately no yeah there is a part of Manheim auctions when they do these condition reports where they're supposed to disclose odors obviously they didn't disclose this one's odorous nature they did say it had a check engine light which obviously is much more than uh the engine needing a tuneup or something let's see uh huh in the trunk smells even worse oh jeez where's all the tools somebody helped themselves to all the Maserati tools they left you hanging didn't they they could have just taken it why didn't they take the case itself I don't know they just swiped all the tools while I was at the auction uh at least all that's still there a funnel in your Maserati that's not a good sign there's a little funnel yeah there's the built-in funnel and then there's a bigger funnel mhm okay we're going to have to I don't know how far you want to go with this really do some testing to see if it's just head gaskets or if it's going to need a whole engine or I don't all right could have cooked it really bad yeah well you want to get it up on the lift cuz my other concern is 10 years in New Jersey yes that's where the car came from open down there and we can check it out oh boy that's good all [Music] [Music] right vehicle not in park all right well it's been a minute since I bought a complete and total turd this one definitely fits the bill you got double Maserati wizard yep one of them runs good though Dr love what's Dr Love in for a bad thermostat it getting too hot or not getting hot not getting hot oh speaking of not getting hot look at that early Duo select so it's a paddle shift F1 one car y wow well two PS in a pod there and speaking of head gaskets the 456 which was uh badly overheated similar story I suppose uh yeah we're many many many many many many many many many many thousands into this one and it looks it looks pretty together what's going on Daniel Son yeah it's already running it runs it runs it's alive the exhaust is full full of fuel from uh setting and also we got some fuel down exhaust so we do need to burn that off but I can start it yes you can start it sounds loud yeah exhaust off the exhaust came apart oh see the Smoky oh ra fuel that we need to burn off oh okay it'll go away all right well how about that yeah it's been almost a year since it uh got overheated well good news I'm not going to spend over 10 grand on the gbly though to get it here I wouldn't either all right well up we go on the on the turd Ferrari engine Ferrari DED engine in here we got to the Finish Line on this one and this one has I don't know if we're going to to get across the start line I to think wizard somebody paid $85,000 new for this car more likely they just leased it and then dumped it because it's had several owners but now this is what it is poor car yeah I mean one of the big knocks on this car when it was new is it had none of the technology of any of its German competition but now it's kind of a good thing less is more when it comes to aging cars as far as Lane departure systems and sonar like we saw at the l65 and all the crazy Tech all the screens and touch screens and a lot of oil coming up from up there really see oh I don't know what it's coming from could be an oil pan gasket so the lower part of the engine sh dripped in me the don't stand there so the lower part of the engine is crying about as much as the uh yeah yes cooling system and if the engine has to come out for whatever problems we find it's probably just resal everything oh but you can see the all wheeel drive system there so yeah is it going through the oil pan the front drive shaft or whatever yes here's the differential that bolts to the oil pan interesting so then I assume this all comes out the bottom like does it drop out when you take the engine out or does it come out the top um I'd have to check and see but very likely could come out if we take this uh front subframe all this stuff off you still have your transmission back here but yeah looks like a it looks like a drop out to me with that all wheel drive but uh yeah how's my suspension after 70,000 mil toight yeah everything looks good there other than that running terrible did it drive okay it felt just fine actually yeah but it's hard to uh look past the horribly misfiring engine I bet yeah the suspension up here looks fine it does not have air suspension so that's good just has standard old Springs it does have a much harsher ride than you would expect but it's kind of sporty fun yeah it's I don't see tons and tons of rust just the bolts and things are a little crusty but the the bottom of the body this gray area is not rusted it looks actually very clean yeah so my worry about it being a New Jersey car is sort of unfounded I guess yeah Maserati's pretty good about their rust proofing it seems to be well okay yeah you see a little bit of surface rust on the weld seems around there and here but that's to be expected yeah any 10-year-old car again no no air suspension back here just regular old Springs these tires look like they are about done yeah they probably are other than the engine issues I really don't see anything going on with this thing it's also nothing exceptional it does have a nice Maserati engine in it but this does not look like the underside of an $85,000 car no it doesn't it looks like alumin just a basic it's it's nothing special no but yeah I'm curious what your computer says a head gasket job cost will be we'll be finding out it's going to be expensive I hope that's all it is is head Gap oh this is all dripping down like they hit something yeah yeah this whole panel is missing here huh it's misfiring pretty badly and that's very lucky this head gasket issue I just don't know if the heads are severely warped or what so I might need heads on top of all that if they're badly worked where resurfacing is not an option it could be yeah oh you want to spit ball some hypotheticals for me sure all right I'm sure you're shopping uh is that clling on no no it's Roman it's it's a Roman battle sword from 200 ad it's a legionary sword for $28,000 yeah that's I could buy two running gbi for that working gbi well to fix this one that's going to really oh show the show the handle oh that's so cool it's a head I think the price on your repairs just went up I got to buy this thing it's really stinking cool I actually would be really happy if you bought that uh but hopefully it's not 28 grand that you found on this gbly repair did did that guy behead that guy or what happen is it Hercules it says hercu and I guess the sword's old and Rusty cuz it's 200 ad so mhm well ancient Roman or Italian swords you got plenty of them in here you make a lot of money off of them yeah I'm going to make a lot of money off of this gibli or giblet or whatever you call it okay so is there like all data say saying book time for this engine to do a head gasket or whatever is this or do you just no but pretty much you go you can actually look up the data but all data and like uh Identifix and places they don't really mess with exotic cars you have to have access to a service manual to get that information wonderful okay anyways there's three options I have here and we're going to based on when we tear it down we'll see where we go okay but if we get it torn apart and it's unusable like Dam it's really bad like it's cooked cooked like totally cooked Goose okay we get a used engine a good used engine installed is around 10 g seven of that is just the engine ah okay that's Maserati prices for you whoa yes so you could have bought a good running gibli by the time you got it fixed yeah but now I'm stuck with this one so is there cheaper options so like is there lesser tiar of like maybe this motor's savable yeah if we get it apart and the heads are unusable we'd get good used heads 8500 that's a much cheaper and if we get it apart we can use your current heads at 7500 the head reason why cuz if we tear apart your used engine and we're going to reuse your engine we're not going to go back together with old timing chains old seals old gaskets old bolt and that's all Italian Ferrari derived and they're not going to be 15 and 100 bucks are going to be 500 and 1,000 bucks for everything that's Maserati for you okay well I'm stuck with it uh I could cut my losses and sell as a project and lose a few grand MH some crazy person who thinks they can fix it probably give me six grand for it I would think or Salvage up or far for farts Salvage the farts or Salvage it out for parts J&J Auto Wrecking you know even watcho starting to do that out of his new house very strange but yeah I suppose why don't we just do a little looky l in the engine I suppose let's get a head off and see how she looks huh okay is that all right and then if it does need an engine then I can maybe hunt one down for a little cheaper than S Grand I don't know but maybe maybe it can be fixed but then I'd be 15 grand into the car but it smells like an ashtray that's the suckiest part you'll never get rid of that well I can get rid of a lot of it but I'll never want to drive it with that smell
