hey you two wriggles in here now this video here I'm going to show you how to cut your electric bill as much as 30 percent and you don't have to do anything and the reason I found this out was you know I started getting these letters from the electric company we've been here like eight years and I've always gotten these letters from the electric company saying my energy huges is higher than all my neighbors around me telling me I need to you know work on lowering my energy usage and and we just live day to day like anyone else I so so finally I forget these things for so many years I decided to take a look what what what is using all this electric that they claim I'm using too much of and how can I cut back and what I found out was unbelievable and I have cut my electric bill by 1/3 for the last four straight months and I didn't have to do anything just by knowing what I'm about to show you but what I am going to show you I'm going to show you my electric bill and explain a couple things on the bill and then I'm going to show you how to look at any item in your house and figure out how much if my electric bill is this item using but I winterover around my house doing this you know I understand electronics I know how to figure power I know how to do the formulas and and but there was one item in my house I could not believe the energy that it was using it was and it was responsible for it and all I had to do is just start turning the damn thing off when I wasn't using it in my electric bill dropped by $60 a month but I'm well now put my electric bill on the camera and we're going to discuss a couple things just hang in because this is you know you're gonna learn some stuff and you gotta learn how to figure out anything in your house your runs on electricity I'm going to show you how you can very quickly figure out what percent of your electric bills this thing use it and and it's simple so just hang in and it might be a little bit of a lengthy video but I'm telling you it'll save you hundreds if not thousands I told my wife I said if we had started turning this item all when we moved in here from then until now just just when we weren't using it we would have five thousand dollars more right now so so anyway my electric bill we're gonna discuss that okay here's my electric bill now I have blocked out my address and my account number and stuff like that because you know there is crazy people in this YouTube world but but here's here it's a hundred ninety four month and I'm on the equal payment plan so that's that's that's my average since I've been here for eight years now down here this month's usage was one hundred and three dollars so I've cut ninety one dollars off the bill by doing just this one thing and then let me show you over here this part of the bill that so ship your past usage for the past twelve months now the only thing you can compare here is it's May - May now this is dismay and this is last man I drew the line straight across so you can see all of this right here all of this I'm gonna call her it in all of that black part I cut off from last year and the months before that was the same way and the month before that was the same way and the months before that and then before that it was back to this because I did I only started I figured this out four months ago and then I've been tracking my bill every month just cuz I did the math and I figured it should save 30% and and it did so now now let's discuss how to look at things around your house and oh one other thing right here average kilowatt per day 30 okay now we need to remember that number that I use my house right here it used this 30 kilowatt hour per day now that's and that's important thing see it says Kildare's kilowatts and then there's kilowatt hours these a little H on there there's a big difference between a kilowatt in a kilowatt hour and I'll explain all that to you and let you show you how to look at things are in your house and figure out how much they're actually caused than you because it ain't just a it ain't just a wattage I can show you how something like the toaster which have the huge wattage doesn't cost you diddly compared to some things around your house to have a low wattage it has to it has to do with how long are they on and different and and and to get the kilowatt hours but we're now now we're gonna go to up now I'm about to go to us some different things around the house and get some numbers and then we're gonna go to a board and do some math so so let's just go around the house and look at what different things use power wise okay now here's my toaster now on any item in your house usually near the cord where the cord goes into the item you're gonna find a ul label like this and it's gonna give you the power that the thing uses see this toaster uses fifteen hundred and sixty was but that's not a one-hour that's over that's 650 was so now we're gonna write this on my board for the toaster 1560 now let's look at some other items this here is an old VCR and right there it's the wallet writ 12 watts okay now we're gonna write that on our board and do a couple more items okay this is a DVD player and right there you can see it says 11 was so we're gonna put this on the board this here is a hard drive that records video from the TV just like the one that's built into your cable box I put this one in here for a reason because that's what it is and it's it uses 30 was so we're gonna put that on the board and this is an old model it's 10 years old they probably make them more efficient now this is my refrigerator Gallery refrigerator freezer and I have to pull it out to get to the label which I did that earlier and this this this refrigerator uses 640 was and so we're going to one more I okay now this is the back of my time warner cable box and nowhere on it does it give the power usage for this box and that's the law but I decided that what's happening is since you didn't you didn't purchase this box so they don't have to put it on there they gave this box to yes so you can get your cable but right down here where it says power input it says 120 volts 5 amps now we've got a now you got to have a little bit of knowledge and do a little bit of math to figure out what is the power usage of this cable box so so let's do that so remember it was a 120 volts at 5 amps to get power when you use an electricity to get power you take the voltage which for that cable box was 100 it's a hundred twenty volts which what comes out of your wall and the cable box draws five amps to get the power you just multiply your amps times your goals and you get six hundred so the cable box is drawing six hundred watts now we're still just watts not kilowatt hours now we're gonna now now we're gonna I'm gonna put the cable on my list here they're 600 watts so you see how this compares just wattage wise your your refrigerator is almost equal to the cable box in 640 and 600 watts I just could not believe that that cable box that's growing 600 was so I did you know the math of my head that's that's 1.2 kilowatts every other hour that that box is drawn and see we used to just go to bed and leave our cable box on and I got the calculating that that if you leave your cable box on we would turn the TV off but just leave they leave the cable box on and and the things still drawing 600 watts oh that's another thing my TV let me show you this so this big HD TV that gets 3d and gets the Internet and everything else it only uses a hundred watts so anytime that cable box is on it's like having six of these sitting around your room all on at the same time nobody would do that in the right mind so why is the cable company building crap this is so inefficient and it's one third of your caterer one third of your electric bill it's it's crazy now let me explain that like why your toaster which is 1560 watt uses less electricity and most of your other items even though it's got the biggest number because a kilowatt hour is how much something uses in an hour so if you wanted this to be 1560 watt hours you would have to leave your toaster on her a whole hour non-stop and and that would be that would be one point five kilowatts if you let your toaster on for a solid hour but you would also burn your house down but you know it takes about three minutes to make your toast about one-twentieth of an hour so you can divide this number by 20 and well that gives you something like 25 watts hours that the toaster uses because it's only on for a few minutes your microwave the same way you might say 1,100 watts and if you left that microwave on for a solid hour that would be 1.1 kilowatts and and like I said my cable box with using 50 if you leave that cable box on all the time is using 15 kilowatts per day and and but the microwaves say way you normally only run it for 5 to 10 minutes so you would it wouldn't be 1,100 watts it would only actually used as far as what hours it would only actually use maybe 200 watt hours and so that just shows how it's not just the wattage but how long do you use it yeah and I want to try this too whenever you go buy something you have one of these labels on it this is much for refrigerator tells you it's gonna cost you sixty-seven dollars a year to run it and it's going to use 630 kilowatt power C it's got the little H on there so its kilowatt hour so this is what would actually go on your electric bill so if you had to put one of these labels on the cable box this number would be four thousand five hundred it would use if you left it on all the time it would be four thousand five hundred kilowatts a year and cost you about six hundred dollars in electricity if you leave your cable box on all the time now if you just turn your cable box on for six hours a day which is I would think about normal then this number here would be about one thousand and the cost to run your cable box for an entire year would be about a hundred and forty dollars but but if you leave it on and don't turn it off it it it wreaks havoc with your electric bill and so the hard drive I put the hard drive on there because your cable box has a hard drive in it that requests how you pause on-demand and do some different things but see that in the hard drive I got is old and it's the he was so it would take that harddrive something like 300 hours to to get a kilowatt and the fridge now the fridge is about the same as the cable but you have to have your fridge so so far as to kill oh I was like I said the cable amounted to 15 kilowatts a day that's that was a third of my bill see now that bill I showed you said 30 remember it said 30 but I've been turning the cable box off four months ago if you go past that my cable bill used to say 45 kilowatts a day and that the 15 of it was that cable box oh we've been shutting it off unless we're actually watching the TV and and it has dropped the bill by one third night now the fridge would be the other third of the case of the electric bill just your fridge on a 100 dollar electric bill one third of it it's refrigerator and then one third of it well now we're watching the cable box maybe five six hours a day and that would be that would be about average I would say and that would be a four kilowatts a day compared to leaving it on all the time which was 15 kilowatts but now when we go out in the yard we turn that cable box off if we're not actually watching it we turned the cable box off and and another thing I bought it I bought an HD antenna for about 40 bucks to hook it up to my TV just to see what I could get when without the cable and he'll I picked up 22 channels out of the air and it's a cheap antenna so now if we just want noise you know sometimes you turn the TV on just for noise turn the cable box off and and let me let me explain one thing why this is like this because Time Warner supplies these boxes now they could make a box half that size they can make a box that uses a tenth of the power but they don't pay the bill they don't pay the electric bill to make a box it's more efficient by ten times which can easily be done today the DVD and the DVR and the TV does all our videos things and they and they use almost nothing but the cable company has built this box so cheap that it's so energy-efficient and they don't care because you pay the electric bill and they don't even put the wattage on the box that you can tell what it's using and so I imagine there's a lot of people out there that the cable box is 1/4 of your bill and you don't know it and and really I think I've tried to bitch the cable company and they just think I'm nuts when they when you complain about how much power your cable box is using but but but come come December sees every December they have to reconsider eight the electric bill the electric companies going to owe me like $600 come December cut so much off this bill and I'm still making the equal payment plan and they're gonna have to reconsider h hat and so so the I'm going to get a big big payday from the electric company in December hundreds of hundreds of dollars and and it's on my build I coulda I didn't show it to you but that they owe me money on the bill the the running balance because because we've cut so much and we're still paying like we was before and and but but it's it's kind of like let's say let's say I had a business work and I wanted to give every one of my customers a generator to run their house when the power goes out and to be a good guy and I'm gonna give everybody every one of my customers I'm giving a free generator so I go out and look for generators to give to my customers well I find a generator that's only $100 each but it burns like 10 gallons of gas an hour or a normal generator or run for two hours on just one gallon of gas but a regular generator that would be like that would cost $400 so I think a little I could just spend $100 and give every one of my customers a generator and I don't care how much gas it uses that's what the cables companies - and - yeah they're just selling you a cheap biased box that will do the job but it's costing you sixty and seventy dollars a month and I only got one box if you've got two boxes or three boxes in your house you could be putting $200 a month on your electric bill probably the cable boxes alone and now the satellite boxes are the same wait but they're not as bad this the satellite boxes used to be just as bad but now DirecTV and some of these other companies they're starting to work at being more efficient and they're still not as good as they should be but their way to hell better than this Time Warner box and I've got a new time warner box so this ain't it ain't an old one they had to replace it here just six months ago so so that's it I just want to tell you turn your cable box off when you're not watching it and start watching your electric bill now it'll take you know electric bills are always a couple weeks behind and it'll take a full months after you start doing that to see the difference that's all I had to wait I've been waiting forever to make this video and so so turn the cable box off and save some money see y'all later
