everyone wants to know how to edit like Ali abdall but there's little to no good information on how to replicate a style in Da Vinci resolve so that's exactly what I'm going to show you check out what I was able to create and it's actually not that complicated to do for entrepreneurs coaches or Consultants looking to generate the easiest warm leads through your YouTube channel check out my website in the description below so I have the entire timeline I used here and I'm going to break it down step by step the first thing I did was actually record the video of me saying exactly what Ali abdall said and then the first thing that I noticed he did was he cut out himself so you can do this with d Vinci resolve Studio which I do have but if you want a free way to do it there's this cool website called Runway ml.com and I do believe that it's free you get up to three projects created so I maxed it out already but if you are new to this then it will be free and then you can just click on remove background here I'm going to go back to projects down here and select the one that I already did so you have to do is drag your video into here make sure it's in vertical format drag it into the timeline then you go down to under magic tools click green screen and you click on your subject basically so I'm going to click on me just it can be anywhere on me and it automatically detects what is me and what is the background and I also clicked on this spot here where it didn't detect see it's missing this part here as well so click there and now you can see if I zoom in a little bit and you can click on this hand and drag around I am completely covered in green which means that everything should be good I just need to play through it and it looks like it's good so the next thing you do is click done masking and then here's our mask we can feather it out a little bit so I'm going to drag this up and you can see how it feathers it so I'll leave it about here it doesn't need to be perfect cuz it's just a YouTube short and then just click export from there it will only let you use P maximum with the free version but we'll fix that later I'll show you how to do that so now just export it and it's going to say it has it in the assets page so go go back if you missed that go back to the home and see your assets page is going to be right down here on the sidebar menu and then you can see I have it here I click on the three dots and click on download and then you should have it now that you have your green screen you want to keep that as well as your original video and this is basically how you get this Fusion clip here so all it is is you take your original file here this one is in 1080P and I take the 720p one the green screen one and I I don't need double the audio so I can delete one and then I just highlight both of them right click on it and select new Fusion clip so that's all that is and if I actually go into it by putting my playhead over it and going on the fusion page you can see there's a bit of a node structure here so to explain this is the 720p video and this is the original this is probably what you'll see right so you want to separate them first and see which one is which so if I just plug this one in I can see see this is the original file so I'm going to right click on it and rename it or you can just press f2 to original and then this one we just rename it to green screen and if I go back into my final version I put my green screen here as the first node in the chain then we open up the select tool bar and in the select toolbar is just search up Delta here drag that into here so if I actually disconnect these if I press two on this Delta here you can see everything up to this node and all I did is if I reset it I just drag this dropper tool onto the green and it takes that out now you can see I drag this output here one into the yellow input of the merge node and once you do that you can also take the square and drag it again Into the Blue effect mask of the merge node and on top of it into the green input you can put your original video into that and this will basically make the green screen 1080p instead of the original 720p that you downloaded the video from Runway and lastly what I did was I took a transform node to make it go down just like Ali abdall does in his video and that's just a simple key frame on the center move it around 15 frames ahead and just drag it down then I put a key frame on the center again and on the size go forward and just drag it down into the side a little bit and also make it a little bit smaller so you can see this animation and then selecting the transform node going to the spine tab of course I zoom to fit you want to highlight all of these I've already done this so it looks different from yours highlight the whole thing press F and press T you can see I adjusted the ease in a little bit but other than that I didn't change anything and that's one part of the equation done the second thing I did I'm going to get to this middle layer here but I want to explain this bottom layer which is just the same original video that I took so I'm using this for the background cuz obviously this top one is just me it's transparent otherwise so I have the background and I have a fade transition going on here so if you want to do that you just right click on the middle of the two clips let me actually delete this so you can see how to do it it's a cross dissolve so right click and I do like a 14 frame cross dissolve I made it a bit shorter than that like this much and I took this brown leather texture closest thing I could find to what was in Ali AB doll's video I'll have like an assets folder that I used in this video in the description so you can go ahead and download everything now for this middle layer this is a thumbnail that Yan got has with the exact picture that Ali abdall uses and I just cut him out using Photoshop you can do it for free with pixel doesn't really matter but then I took the cutout version of him and I put it here and I right clicked on it and clicked on new Fusion clip then if we go in we can see everything in here so it's going to look complicated at first but I'll break down everything step by step so first thing here we have the cutout of Iman and also transform node below him I do a simple sliding up animation so you could probably assume by now it's just putting a key frame on the center moving it Forward maybe like like 13 frames dragging it up then it goes down like this and I put a key for on the sides and moved it up a little bit as well that's pretty much it for the animation you can see the shaking here that's because at the very end of the composition I have a camera Shake node and you can copy these settings all that I changed really was the motion scale and the speed scale I don't think I really changed anything else going back to this part of the node chain you can see these dollar bills come out from behind him so this is what this whole thing is and all of these media in nodes right here these are the dollar bill PNG you can just look up dollar bill PNG honestly I don't think I even have to put it in the asset folder cuz it's it's pretty easy to find then what's important here is you have to separate all of these so I want to do specific things to these dollar bills that I don't want to affect anything else so what I did did here is you take these and these transform nodes don't worry about them now I added them in later but you take a background node and actually I forgot to say the first node you want is a background node which you can find right here you can drag it and then you want to turn the alpha all the way down this makes it transparent this will just create a 1920 x 1080 background in hindsight I probably should have made it a vertical format but it's up to you then you copy this and you have another transparent background here and you take this media in so I'll take transform out now just to show you how to do it you just drag this meta in onto the square and it automatically creates a merge node now you can see on these nodes there's key frame icons on all the nodes I did animations on so you can see which ones I do have animations on which ones I don't so I have a transform node on each dollar bill first one goes up slides up like this and all of these have a sliding up animation and what I did is you just take this transform node do a sliding up animation copy it and paste them under all the other dollar bills and the only thing you change is the ending point so instead of making this dollar bill slide there like the second one slides a little bit to the right and then also a little bit higher than the next one and it kind of forms like a border around his head almost and of course we're going to smooth out all these animations so you always want to go into the spine Tab and make sure you select all of the transform nodes I also did this for the transform node under em on but you want to make sure that you're always highlighting them then you click on the three dots show only selected and you may need to select these and click the zoom to fit and you should see this you can just move it select everything then you can just press F to smooth everything out T to adjust the ease in and ease out this is what I did specifically so you can copy that now after that I have another transform node this is going to control all of the dollar bells in one node so if I want to move it here here here here doesn't matter I I just have it all in one transform node and below that I have a color corrector cuz the dollar bill coloring wasn't really as green as I wanted it to be so just added this in and I moov this thing up to the green side of the color wheel so now we're done with this whole part of the fusion composition now here are the next Parts here is the beard you can see so it comes in like this just ignore the rest of it for now actually I can press two on the merge note here just to show everything up to here so you can see the beard comes in like this all right so to do this paper rolling animation it's pretty simple I partially made this like blue screen and this black part is transparent so normally you would just put it over your footage and it would go like this obviously the blue screen isn't done yet but we need to put it over in this case it's the beard so for this specific one it actually rolls up I can just go to change clip speed and then reverse speed now it will be the opposite I'm going to turn down the opacity so I can actually see what I'm doing and something like this should be pretty good okay so now we can turn the opacity back up and I'm just going to highlight this top clip and compound clip it I'll just name it blue screen one I can go into the fusion page with my playhead over this PNG then pull up our media pool take the blue screen and drag this output into that square and then under operator you can select a top now you have something like that so the last thing you need to do is just compound clip that so I've obviously already done this but I'm going to use this image as an example so I'll go into the fusion page of it and drag in our clip with the blue screen and the beard you can see it looks like this we actually want to take this output and also drag it to the blue triangle of the merge node as well now let's deselect everything and and pull up the toolbar and search up Delta key and drag this on the green line here right before the green triangle so hold shift and drag and drop it onto this green line now you can scroll to find the blue and take this eyedropper tool and drag it on the blue so now it should look like this and to size it correctly what we need to do is highlight all of this hold shift and drag it out drag in a background node turn the alpha all the way down drag into the yellow triangle and drag the output of the merge one onto this Square here to merge it up again and using the second merge we can resize everything so that's not quite right but something like that is pretty good and it's pretty much the same process with the eyes as you would imagine so for the eyes it has this like paper tearing animation and I got this from a YouTube video I'll link it below but all you have to do is find a YouTube tp4 downloader you can just look it up on Google get this video and I'm I'm going to cut out this part so like right where it ends and now I have this green and blue screen so we want to get rid of the blue screen first I'm going to go into the fusion page and make sure I'm at a point where I can actually see the blue then add a Delta here use the eye dropper tool and drop it on the blue and we can also resize it so I'm going to put on this first frame so I can see the full size of the video and just make sure the full PNG is covered so now once I do that I can compound clip it by right clicking and and new compound clip I'll name it paper animation I can delete this for now and go into the fusion page of this PNG and grab my compound clip that I just made merge it and under this merge node we can go to operator and select a top so it should look like that now it's pretty obvious what you do from here you just have to get rid of the green screen so it is transparent and it looks like the paper is actually unfolding we can compound clip this I'll just name it r random numbers delete it let's use this as an example again so go into the fusion page we can do the exact same thing let's pull this compound clip that we have merge it we can take this background node and copy it as well drag the output to the blue triangle and bring in a Delta cure which we will shift and drop under the green line so let's go to a part where we can actually see the green screen and use this eye dropper tool sometimes it will just show up as black if you like try to do the middle so you need to move it around a little bit until you get the green now it looks like the animation Alia bell used last thing is highlighting all these nodes holding shift and moving it out dragging in a transparent background node so dragging the alpha all the way down putting it into the yellow triangle and creating a new merge node we can press two on the media out to show the final result and use this merge node to resize the eyes and you'll notice that when you do this there's going to be a little bit of a black outline I'm not really really sure why this happens but the quickest fix for me was just to take an ellipse node plug it into this final merge node here and resize it maybe change the angle a little bit so that it just gets rid of the black outline and nothing else you might need to do the same thing with the beard if you see like a black outline so just take a polygon node plug it into this last merge and you can click invert for now just move to where you can actually see the black line and just Trace around the inside of it to get rid of it and for the rest of it you can just go move forward so you know you're not cutting off the rest of the PNG and go around it you can click invert again and you can click off of the polygon node now you don't see the black line anymore and after that the only other part is just the hat so it looks complicated at first but it's actually pretty simple once you break it down and I'm going to remake this effect in a different composition so you can see how I did it so let's take the same one go into the fusion page let's bring in a PNG of a hat and merge it I also want to apply effects that I only want to affect the hat so I need to pull in a background node turn the Alp all the way down and drag this into the output of the background node to create another merge node and then drag that into this original merge node now we can use this merge node to resize everything and make sure you're doing the final one not this one so first I need to resize the hat to be the appropriate size and also the position of it so that looks good now we want to cut pieces out of the hat and animate each one so we need to use the polygon node and drag this polygon node Into the Blue input of the media end one and click invert so for the first piece I'll do something like this I want it to be relatively big so I don't have to animate a bunch of the same pieces so now you can see it looks like this if we unselect invert this is what it looks like and from here I'll just cop copy the merge the PNG of the hat which is just going to be the media in and the polygon node so highlight all of them command or control C depending on if you're on Mac or Windows and then paste it with control or command V and I'll make eight pieces so I just pasted it eight times now disconnect it from this merge node and plug them into each other and plug the last one into the final merge now let's go to the second one and the polygon node and we can just move this polygon I'm not going to touch this area so it lines up well with the last piece that I created and my second piece is going to be like this now the third one something like that and then from the third node on don't delete these yet but you just want to delete this one and instead take the second one or the last piece that you just created and paste it hold shift and drag it out if it automatically adds it to that node chain and then plug into your next piece it basically just makes this so you can see where your last piece was and line everything up nicely by just moving this left side so it can keep the right side lined up and I can delete the next one copy and paste the last one and just repeat this process until you've covered the entire hat and you can also click on this plus with like the pen to create a new point if you need to it looks like I need a little more than eight pieces so I can just copy and paste a little more I'm going to add like three more pieces as long as you've cut out all the pieces pieces of the hat and you don't see any gaps then you should be good for now if you do you can just go back and adjust the lines of the polygon next we can highlight all of this move it up and use these merge nodes to animate each one for this first merge node we'll create one animation and then copy that same merge node and use it for all of the other pieces of the Hat let's say I want my animation to start at frame five so I go to the first merge node on frame five I'll put a key frame on the center and the blend and move it to like here I'll go one frame back turn the blend all the way down then go one frame forward and by the way I'm using my arrow keys to move frames and I want this piece to move over the course of let's say seven frames so I'll move 7 frames forward and just type in 0.5 for each coordinate to bring it back to the original position so this is what one piece looks like and of course let's go and smooth it out so click on the spline Tab and the three dots and then show only selected tool click on this merge node here and the zoom to fit we don't actually want to smooth out the blend we can uncheck that just do this pink line here press s to smooth it out and T to adjust the e in and E out and I'm going to move it to like 48 so it just looks like that now we can delete all of these other merge nodes we no longer need these let's copy and paste this for as many pieces as we have and we are going to connect them it should actually look like the whole hat is moving but what we'll do is highlight all of these merge nodes go to the key frames tab click on the three dots show only selected tools Zoom to fit and let's make this window a little bigger and zoom in horizontally a bit until we see this now the first merge is obviously the first piece you can double check that by clicking on the first one and seeing if the first one has a red outline I'm not going to move that one since I want that one to start at the start of the animation but for the rest of them I'm going to stagger each one a little bit so I'm going to stagger each one by like three frames and it doesn't have to be exact of course no one is really going to notice that and it also creates a little bit of variation if one is a little longer or shorter than the other so now I've staggered all of my clips now I want to change the position of where they come from so this one starts here let's have this one you can see the second key frame is is going to be the one that we put the position on we can just move it I want it to like start here this one can have it start here move this one here let's move this one up here it looks like that so far so I'm pretty happy with that the only other thing we need to do is create the paper Edge if we actually go into the effects tab here go to templates or just click on the templates drop down and search paper Edge now this might only be available for VCI resolve Studio which I do have so this makes it really easy to do this like paper Edge effect so you can just like adjust it and change the edge roughness if I want to change this to 40 The Edge position and then you can see how there's like these little cracks in the lines this is cu the polygons aren't big enough so you can just make them a little bigger so they cover the lines and it looks like I ran into a slight problem with the paper Edge interacting with this merge node so to fix it I'm going to reset the size and the center of it click on this last merge node shift space or control space to add a transform node which I will use to resize the hat and I can delete this paper Edge and add it back again now it works and then again you can use the polygons to fix those lines and I don't really want to have a shadow so just get rid of that get rid of the softness and if you don't have paper Edge for some reason which I think it's not available in the free version let's say I want to delete it okay so you need a configure like this with the transform node going into the erod dilate the erod diate going in the background then finally you connect this background to the yellow input of the merge now take the transform node and connect the output to the green triangle as well and take the erode dilate node and bring the amount up and you have the same kind of paper outline and the next part of it is this transition here now this paper transition was made in this compound clip so if I decompose it which basically shows you all the parts of it you can see that it is these two clips so I just cut off this end part and extended it so it have some overlap with this next clip and I took this green screen I believe it's from the same YouTube video that I got the other paper rollup effect from I keyed out the green screen on this top clip I didn't do it in the fusion page because you don't really get as much control it's just quicker though but you can also do it in the color page all you need to do is add an alpha output so you right click add Alpha output this blue thing should pop up then you just connect it up and if I reset this actually this is what it looked like before make sure this is selected click on the green and then you want to click on this button here to invert it you can see there's still a lot of green left so we need to adjust these sliders to fix that so the low usually works and that get rid of most of it and if we adjust the low of the luminance you can see it gets rid of a little more and the last thing is adjusting the width and that cleans it up much nicer than it was before so that's pretty good go back into the edit page you want to compound this clip as well as the clip under it and make that into a compound clip you have to make sure that the second color so in this case it's yellow for me that you basically want to be transparent and show the next clip doesn't show up until the next clip is under it if that makes sense so the first frame that it shows is here and my next clip starts now I can go back into the color page of this compound clip and do the same exact thing at an alpha output and I'm going to go forward a little bit so I can see the yellow better click on the yellow click on this invert button and you can see I need to adjust the width okay maybe that didn't really do anything the lows a little bit not too much cuz I don't want to destroy the paper I mean that's pretty good to be honest no one's is really going to notice I probably made the width way too much okay that's a lot better and that's how I did it the next part is very simple now this part is where you might have to spend a little bit of money if you want this exact effect so first of all you can see in this composition I have Med in 12 which would be the blue grunge background I literally just searched a blue grunge background on YouTube and found this pretty good and we have Alan Rickman here it's just a PNG of him and I put a paper Edge to keep the style of the paper and all of these letters I imported from motion array so you can find a link in the description if you want these and motion array will give you all of these assets it has a ton of like free templates for dvinci resolve or Premiere Pro or even Adobe After Effects whatever you use even stock footage it literally has a ton of stuff so I recommend you check it out and it would help support me a little bit because if you use my link I do get a small Commission if you subscribe to their service but anyway I got these letters from there you can get them for free except it's not going to be these exact ones you could probably find like magazine letters I would probably search that up on YouTube and you could find something similar to that but all you have to do is just drag each one in and just position them accordingly using the merge nodes I use the trick of making it separate so adding a transparent background and connecting the whole thing to its own merge node so I have like Master position control that I can use to adjust it if you're interested in how YouTube can make you a lot of money even with a really small following go follow my Twitter I'm going to be posting stuff more related to making money through YouTube and more on my agency I only have like single digit followers on there so if we could get it up to at least triple digits then I would appreciate that if you have a question leave it down in the comments someone may answer it or if I have the time I'll try my best to answer all of your questions and as a short form editor you have to be versatile and know multiple different styles to help you with that I made another video on how to edit short form like Iman gaji so go ahead and check that video out
