this is the lego cargo train and it's about to go on quite the adventure [Applause] you see earlier this year i built a giant lego railway sprawling around my entire house plus combine 10 lego roller coasters into one ginormous one it was pretty epic well the lego team obviously thought so too because they asked to sponsor me to make something even bigger and more ambitious and i had just the project in mind ever since i was a kid i've always loved that little train around the christmas tree but what if it wasn't confined to just a tiny loop what if it traveled through say a snowy forest an ice cave a storybook vortex a gingerbread village and even the northern lights while armed with 52 boxes of lego track that's exactly what it's gonna do but first we need to make the train a little more festive i added some snow and holly to the front and built a gingerbread themed carriage as well as an ice themed one that should do the trick now it is a cargo train so it's going to have some very important cargo presents for my cats i won't tell you what they are yet but ralph and bella are both very excited so we better get started the first obstacle will be a giant snow globe one's so large in fact it doesn't fit inside my house i used a geodesic greenhouse 3.6 meters in diameter and this thing was mind-blowingly cool it looks like some kind of moon base inside i want to create a winter village plus a lake a waterfall and a forest i got into a fight with a pond liner which i use to line a bright pink paddling pool i then place this sort of cascade waterfall flowing into it the centerpiece of the snow globe the next job was to build a wooden frame to support the village and forest and in the spirit of the video i'm going to be using a lego saw i might be here a while it's been 40 years with the frame complete i drafted the track layout to make sure everything would fit before adding the blankets of fake snow that would completely hide the wood as for the forest my first thought was to use these little lego trees but i'd need literally thousands of them and they're smaller than what i had in mind so how could i do it i mean it's not like i can actually plant a forest right so i'm going to actually plant a forest and bella's come to see what's cluttering up her catio in total i had 76 tiny trees it looks like everyone i know is going to be getting one as a present this year i used moss to fill in the gaps and disguise the plant pots and it really sold the illusion of a genuine forest the finishing touch was to spray it with snow so the trees are all in and doubled up i've put in the moss and the fake snow and just look how insanely cool this is gonna look i then turned my attention to the winter village and luckily there are tons of lego sets for exactly this i built a bakery a toy shop santa's workshop an elf house a post office a fire station a train station a working carousel plus this year's newly released santa's visit this set is unbelievably detailed and you can even put santa down the chimney anyway after filling back up the lake my winter utopia was complete this looks amazing the next obstacle is the storybook vortex now books and stories have always played an important role in the holidays for myself and for a lot of people and no story is more iconic than charles dickens of christmas carol it even inspired its own lego set so i want to pay homage to that and create a scene out of book pages fairy lights and carol singing minifigures first i got two large cardboard shipping tubes next i line the insides with book pages using pva glue and a falling apart old dickens book well i think rolf approves i joined the tubes together with wooden battens and drilled holes at even intervals to feed through the fairy lights i then taped them in place securing the wire flush against the tube to make the whole thing spin i'd be using upside down remote control cars plus a frame to hold everything in position okay so the hope is the remote control car wheels are gonna spin the tube is this crazy enough to actually work yes that is terrifying the last thing was to of course add the train track [Music] now no winter train ride would be complete without a glimpse at the northern lights i built a simple wooden frame which would hold an upturned tv displaying the lights with the train driving underneath i added an icicle border as well as felt at the entrance to keep external light out and then glued on sponges around the edges for cushioning finally i positioned the tv itself plus a blanket over the top to block the gaps between the sponges look at the light coming out from there let's give you a very quick sneak peek next up the gingerbread village there's this incredible gingerbread house lego set and i have seven of them which i want to rebuild into different gingerbread buildings to differentiate it from the winter village i want these buildings to be more whimsical and fantastical so i'm really gonna have to use my imagination i used a pink blanket for the flooring and found these super funky sweet lights and candy cane lights plus a tangled mess of lighting in the background just the lights alone look magical as for my custom gingerbread creations i made a windmill which i'm really really proud of a triangular house a cottage inhabited by these wonderful pink frogs a larger chalet style house a sort of town hall a big ben inspired clock tower and of course the original design there's also the elf house a duplicate from the winter village which i added coloured studs to to make a bit more gingerbready ralph looks like a giant but at least he seems to like it ralph also looked a bit ominous towering in the background so i gave him a santa hat to make him a little less scary finally the ice cave i actually have a lego ice cube tray and it would have been amazing to build the cave using real ice but it would quickly turn into a rather large puddle instead i'd be using these polystyrene terrarium backboards as the walls they have this really cool rock work texture and i spray-painted them white deliberately leaving them a bit mottled and imperfect i cut them in half long ways and used double-sided tape to attach them to a baseboard next i built a wall out of translucent blue lego bricks and placed a light behind to give the cave an icy blue glow and in front i added some lego dinosaur bones further along the cave i added another blue brick wall and light plus some polar explorers camping but the cave's main inhabitants are yetis finally i added the roof panels and built an entrance using more lego bricks so it looks ridiculous from the outside and oh yeah it's under my dining table inside though it looks incredible and with that everything was complete after loading the cat's presence into the train it was time for the journey to begin [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] the train arrived perfectly on time and ralph and bella were both eagerly awaiting their gifts so we've got a red bow tie for ralph and a green one for bella sadly bella couldn't actually wear the bow tie because of her donut but ralph looked incredibly dapper when it wasn't completely hidden by fluff that is but bella could clearly already smell the next gift here we go then bells we've got gingerbread catnip toys and she looked very grumpy i have no idea why she looks so miserable i think she had her heart set on a foot spa within a few minutes she showed a bit more interest for all of two seconds and ralph didn't seem to care much either after all that ralph and bella were far more interested in the train itself than their presence but i can't really blame them i mean it's a magical train ride through a lego wonderland it doesn't get much better than that [Music]
